Speaker 1 (00:00):
Next up this Saturday Morning, Knowledge is Power, hosted by
Rob Kane of Citi's Insurance Group. If you have a
question for Rob and would like it answered on an
upcoming show, email him at r Kane at citiesig dot
com and now Rob Kine.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
Hey, good morning, Michel. This is Rob Kane, a City's
Insurance Group out here in Leclear, Iowa, looking forward to
a great weekend. Happy to be here with you today.
Lindsey and Kinley are not with us today. Kinley's a
little under the weather. We had celebrated Christmas in July
last weekend, which is kind of a funny deal in

(00:39):
my opinion, but it works out really well because you know,
the kids that are married, they have their own Christmas
to do in the holiday season. Plus, you know the
other side of the Hanley, the in law side, if
they're going to celebrate with them. So I think it
was three or four years ago my wife's family to
decide to do Christmas. Also, we have a one of

(01:02):
the brothers, my wife's brothers, who lives out in California
as a teacher, so he's off in the summer, so
it was a chance for him to come out and
be with us over the holidays as well, so we
started doing that. And we'd love to camp, we're just
not big campers. We don't own our camper. So we
did what's called RV share and we've done that the

(01:24):
last two years and it really works out quite well
if you're not familiar with it, kind of like a VRBO,
but you search the area where you're going, you you know,
because they'll deliver it for free within a certain distance,
so you don't even have to deliver it.

Speaker 3 (01:41):
You can look at the different ones.

Speaker 2 (01:43):
It's similar to a hotel, you know, running a hotel,
maybe a little bit more, but again we want to
be with everybody at the campground. But yeah, you know,
you get it set up, they will actually come out
set up the RV for you. When you're done, you
just you know, pack up your goodies and go. They
will come and pack up and haul it away. So

(02:04):
it's really if you've never utilized that. We find it
works for us because again, we don't a have the
We don't want to purchase an RV, we don't want
to store it, we don't want to ensure it, and
we don't want to fix any of the problems that
come along with having it. My one nephew seems like
every year he's got a really big RV and there's

(02:27):
always something going wrong with that. So if you've never
experienced it RV share, I certainly recommend you give it
a try again. We did Christmas in July. It was
really a great time. We had all but the two
family members out of seventy seven I believe it was

(02:48):
that attended, So it was really a nice reunion and
a great time. I'm going to talk a little bit
about some changes coming up in Medicare. You know, we
have our break here because there's really I'm a little
bit concerned. I don't know what those changes are going
to be at this point, but it has to do
with the new federal program that says seniors will pay

(03:13):
no more than two thousand dollars a year for medications,
which overall, you know, sounds very good, especially for those
that have very expensive medications. I add a gentleman in
here today that's going to start his Medicare drug program
first of next month, and just for the rest of

(03:35):
the year, his medication alone will be over four thousand dollars.
And you know, he called me back and said, hey,
you know, is there an annual cap or whatever? And
right now the way that it works, no, there isn't.
You can pay over eight nine, ten thousand dollars a
year in medications depending on you know, the very expensive ones.
But most of my customers don't really deal with that.

(03:57):
But yeah, my concern is going to be, hey, when
we are pushing that cost either to the insurance company
to manufacture, how are they going to try to recoup
that or you know, make it more viable. Again, I
understand the people that are paying the high costs. We'll
get some relief. So again we'll come back. We'll talk

(04:20):
about that a little bit, you know. Not this weekend,
not much going on. It's next weekend, so it'll all
be down in the Davenport area. Nothing really Leclaire specific
going on. But then we do have tugfests coming up,
and of course it's always busy out here on Claire
and we love having the tourists and a lot of
people have been commenting on the buffalo statues that are around.

(04:44):
We currently have one and painted it outside our office
as well, so if you haven't seen them, that's kind
of cool coming out and take a look. But we're
gonna go ahead and take a commercial break. We'll be
back in just a couple of minutes and again I'll
kind of update as best I can on this Medicare
changes for twenty twenty five.

Speaker 3 (05:01):
Stay tuned and thanks for joining us.

Speaker 2 (06:24):
Okay, welcome back again. This is Rob came with Cities
Insurance Group. Happy to be here with you today.

Speaker 3 (06:31):
Again.

Speaker 2 (06:31):
Lindsay and Kenley aren't here. Kenley's a little under the
weather because we were camping over the weekend and oh
my gosh, she had so much fun with their cousins
and playing around, but a little were out got a bug,
so they weren't able to be here with us today.
But again, what I was talking about was we did
Christmas in July, which was a great time, and I

(06:53):
do have some of my actual Medicare customers that are
in the family, and we were discussing these changes because
whether you do Medicare advantage or a drug program, both
of those are going to be affected in twenty twenty
five because there's a new law that's going into the
fact that says seniors will pay no more than two

(07:14):
thousand dollars in medications over the year. Now, how that's
laid out in regards to do they also have a premium?
Is that only copays? I don't have that information yet,
but I do know there's going to be an option
to go ahead and select if you are someone that
has expensive drugs, to where you can have a level
payment throughout the year. So instead of having to come

(07:36):
up with a huge deductible early in the year, four
or five, six hundred bucks deductible right away at one time,
you're going to be able to spread that across. So
I assume that's going to be about one hundred and
sixty seven bucks a month. Again, I'm assuming at this point,
as I haven't seen how these things lay.

Speaker 3 (07:52):
Out, but I know.

Speaker 2 (07:57):
Over the past few years those drug programs have been
coming down and coming down in premium wise, on Illinois
side for this year, on a separate drug program, like
if you have a Medicare supplement and you want a
separate drug program, they have actually a zero premium one
for people that you know, really don't have any medications
or just a couple of generics. And on the Iowa

(08:20):
side it's only fifty cents a month.

Speaker 3 (08:22):
So I.

Speaker 2 (08:24):
Just don't know how they would be able to maintain
those types of premiums on the basic prices with the
fact that you know it's only going to be two
thousand dollars total. So what I'm trying to warn everybody
about is that it's going to be very important during
the annual election period from October fifteenth to December seventh,
to make sure you know, you rerun your drug medications,

(08:49):
make sure if you're on Medicare advantage, that you take
a look.

Speaker 3 (08:52):
I know there's already.

Speaker 2 (08:55):
Potential rumors out there that some companies may pull out.
You know, again, we don't don't know what's going to
happen on the Medicare ad Manager drug programs because they're
all year to year programs, and again with this law change,
you know somebody is going to have to absorb those
higher costs. So again, folks, I'm trying to put the
word out make sure this year more so than any

(09:17):
And again it's important every year to check those things,
whether you've got a supplement or just a regular Medicare
advantage with your drug program, that you take a look
at that, at your overall stuff and make sure you
got what's most effective for you. So often, you know change,
seniors don't like change, and I understand that you know

(09:38):
you get something, you just want it to go on forever.
But this is one thing with your healthcare that can
be one of the bigger expenses in your of.

Speaker 3 (09:45):
The year for you.

Speaker 2 (09:46):
So it's really really important that you know, we do
stop and take a look at that. Also, you know,
let you know, of course on August first, Wednesday and
August I do have the Medicare Education Seminar that I
host a case I sending out all our flyers on
that now typically comes to people that are going to
be turning sixty five, so you know, if you want

(10:08):
to get educated on how you know all the basics
of Medicare and everything how they work today. And again
I won't have the updates yet for the drug program
stuff that I can walk through and give you a
good base of information and knowledge on how that stuff works. Again,
that's a case I. That's going to be August seventh.
That'll be six o'clock at a case I. And if

(10:31):
you'd like to join us, give us a call. RSVP,
five Sixth Street, three five nine, wait, five to four.
Of course we'd love to have you, know the many
people in attendance, but if you are going to be
turning sixty five in the future, or again you just
want to get updated and be prepared, give us a call.

Speaker 3 (10:48):
We love to have you tend.

Speaker 2 (10:51):
So that's about allered a case I meaning that I
wanted to go about, but again just wanted to warn
you all as best I could about these changes coming
up with the drug program. Yeah, so speaking of you know,
changes are things that are going on this year. I
can't tell you how many people we've had called it

(11:14):
in regards to home and auto and you know, property
casualty insurance. I guess you'd call it because of their
increases being very substantially large. We've even had seen some
companies pulling out of some states because those insurance losses
are just too great. I mean, look at the tornadoes

(11:34):
and everything that we've had locally just over the last
month or so. It's been crazy, the amount of damage
that's going on. And not only is it here, but
you know, throughout our country, all throughout the United States,
there's been a lot of large, devastating, financially devastating, i
should say, things going on, claims that these companies are

(11:59):
having to pay out. So you know, if you do
get your renewal and you're having a large increase, you know,
feel free to give us a call. We've done shopping.
The majority of times the girls are able to find
something that is going to be you know, a little
bit cheaper. Again, everybody's gone up, you know, we've got

(12:19):
the inflation, we got all this other stuff going on.
Just all the financial stuff is ridiculous right now. But
we have been able to again find some savings, find
new homes for some of that stuff. So again, if
you want why and Lindsay can certainly help you with that,
give us a call. Five six Street three five nine

(12:42):
eight five four. They would love to help you with
any of that that they can. Again, give us a call, five.

Speaker 3 (12:49):
Sixth Street three five nine eight five four.

Speaker 2 (12:51):
I'm gonna go ahead and take another break and'll be
back to you in just a moment.

That's right, it's all there in Leclair. We can't wait
to see you.

Speaker 2 (14:28):
Okay, welcome back once again. This is Rapkin, happy to
be here with you this afternoon. Lindsay and Kinley. Kenley's
a little under the weather, so they're not with us
here today, but do want to remind you again that
we do have the case I meeting coming up is
where I educate folks on the basics of Medicare, how
to put together a complete package, whether it's a supplement

(14:50):
with a drug program or a Medicare advantage program. Interestingly enough,
this is the first year that Medicare advantage. Actually, fifty
one percent of people throughout the United States have Medicare
advantage versus Medicare supplements. Here in my office, I find
that that's, you know, been the trend is more and

(15:12):
more people turning sixty five, if they're fairly healthy, are
taking Medicare advantage. They you know, understand it and feel
it's a better overall value for them. And I've got
you know, of course, I've got a ton of folks
that like Medicare supplements as well, But Medicare supplements have
been around for forever since you know, Medicare has been around,

(15:33):
so it was always a much stronger presence, and especially
like in Iowa, where you know, you pay the premium,
you don't really have the copays because you had a
plan f with Blue Cross or whomever, and you know,
then you would add a separate drug program. But more
and more people are really finding value in like the

(15:54):
dental vision hearing. Of course, from October fifteenth to December
seventh every year, all the commercial are all about, you know,
pick us, we've got the best benefits or whatnot. But
as an independent agent, I do certify with all the
different companies so I can give you an overview of
all of them and which ones you know are more

(16:15):
popular than the rest. But like I said, it's just
interesting that Medica advantage has kind of taken over. Very
well received, But like I said early in the show,
it's going to be very interesting to see how those benefits.
I was talking about how the drug programs had worked
their way down five years ago. The Humanity program that

(16:36):
was twenty five dollars a month for a drug program
was the least expensive one you can get, but they
had come down in price, especially for people that didn't
really have much medications. Like I said, in Illinois there
was a program for zero and on the Iowa side,
that same program was fifty cents a month. So it'll
be interesting to see. I don't know how they will
be able to maintain that type of pricing, but again

(17:00):
we'll see come October, I'll have all of that information
from the different companies and how those things play out. Again,
it's a great benefit for the seniors they have expensive medications.
Your maximount that you'll pay out of pocket is two thousand. Again,
I don't know if that includes the premium or just
the copays, as I haven't seen the plans and how

(17:22):
they lay out exactly yet. But then also if you
do have expensive medications, you'll have an option. I'm told
to spread that over the year, so like one hundred
and sixty seven dollars a month, so instead of having
to pay. The way they were structured this year is
you know, people that had expensive medicas, they'd have a
deductible of like five hundred and forty five dollars, so

(17:43):
they had to pay that right away. Then they would have,
you know, their normal copays up until they went into
what's called the gap or the donut hole. Then they
would have to pay twenty five percent of the retail
costs of that medication once they got there. So that
again we're very expensive. So for those folks it's going
to be great. If you have any questions on that,
feel free to give me a call five six three

(18:04):
three five nine eight five four. Also, like I said,
the home and auto stuff has been going up like crazy.
If you'd like to get new quotes on that, you
don't give the girls a call five six three three
five nine eight five four. As an independent agent, they
will shop multiple companies for you.

Speaker 3 (18:24):
As I do for the health and so forth.

Speaker 2 (18:27):
As well so, so the river has really.

Speaker 3 (18:34):
Been you know, flooded. We know that.

Speaker 2 (18:36):
But now we're coming into Big weekend. Luckily things are
going back down. Should be a great turnout hopefully out
there at the Big weekend. Well, Claire, I hope to
be able to get my boat out and get some
fishing done.

Speaker 3 (18:48):
I haven't done nearly enough fishing this year.

Speaker 2 (18:51):
Any of you that listened to the show, No, I
really get into that. On a sad note. Again, if
you have followed the show at all, you know that
I volunteered at Missippi Valley Sportsmen, been doing it for
a number of years. Used to be Waterfowl USA, and
that organization is kind of coming to an end. You know,

(19:11):
it's just hard these days to get young people involved,
younger people involved. And you know when we went from
Waterfowl USA, it was you know, serious duck hunters that
were part of that membership and got that organization going.
But once they lost their five oh one ceed three,
we switched it over to just local, which was nice

(19:33):
to missip Valley Sportsman. Just local organization, which was nice
because we didn't have to send eighty percent of our
donations profits or whatever you want to call it to
that main company, the main organization. We were our own
organization and we were able to fund a lot of

(19:53):
great conservation projects and so forth. But again it's just
hard to keep new peopleeople involved, and since we weren't really,
like I said, waterfowl as a white tail, just general
Mississippi Valley sportsman, just tough to attract some of the
younger folks. So we will be dissolving that organization again,

(20:14):
very sad. I know I've been doing it for years
and really enjoyed it, but now hopefully it'll give me
some free time. As you know, I still volunteer with
the American Legion here out of Leclair, and I serve
as the acting president of the Chamber of Commerce. So
you know, all that stuff does really keep me busy, busy, busy.

(20:35):
So maybe I'll get a breather and maybe I'll be
able to get out there and do a little bit
more fishing.

Speaker 3 (20:39):
But that's the hopes.

Speaker 2 (20:42):
Well, I hope you all have a great weekend this
week and try to get down enjoy the bicks by local.
You know, we've got tugfests and everything coming up out
here in Leclair. Come on out and see us. Out here,
and again, if you need anything, if you want to
attend our case I seminar, or if you need quotes
for your home in Audo, or you know you have

(21:03):
questions about your healthcare stuff going on, give us a
call five six three three five nine oh eight five four.

Speaker 3 (21:09):
What we're trying to do out here.

Speaker 2 (21:10):
Is provide you with the best overall value for your dollar,
whether it comes to Homonaudo, health life, whatever the case
may be. Thanks so much for tuning in, and I
hope you have a great weekend and a great.

Speaker 1 (21:23):

Knowledge Is Power with your host Rob Kine. If you
have a question for Rob and would like it answered
on an upcoming show, email him at r Kane at
