Speaker 7 (01:02):
The Aurora Police Department was not given immediate notification of
an active escape. Instead, we were informed hours later after
ice GEO had already lost valuable time for their own
internal response.
Speaker 6 (01:15):
Chamberlain says it's unfair and unreasonable to call out his
department for a situation that should have been owned by
ice a Uror.

less than ten minutes later, immediately contacted him and for
you know, a minute or so or so, we're engaged
in conversation with him, seeing the weapon, you know, trying
to convince him to drop that weapon.
Speaker 4 (02:17):
Denver Police Chief Ron Thomas says the suspect refused to
drop the guns, so officers fired at him. None of
the officers were hurt, and they don't believe anyone was
inside the school at the time.
Speaker 3 (02:27):

state capitol forced several schools to close because of a
staffing shortage from Denver.
Speaker 9 (02:35):
To the Roaring Fork School district in Beyond, thousands loaded
the capitol grounds with signs and chants, fund our schools
and no more cuts. It's a far cry from a
year ago when there was celebration for fully funding schools
after fifteen years of cuts with a bipartisan group of lawmakers.
But now there's a one point two billion dollar budget
shortfall in the state and cuts the education around the

cut instead there and were unclear, but they said education
should be off. Linnis at the state Capitol.

Ireland's Shannon Airports. Here in the US, transportation officials worried

A lot of Tesla's are going back to the dealership
record number.
Speaker 14 (06:49):
In fact, there have been some recalls, but in this
case we're talking trade ins. Some of this is political
because of Elon Musk's role in the Trump administration. But
where some analystsy trouble, others see opportunity.
Speaker 15 (07:01):
Tesla cars from the bottal year twenty seventeen or newer
accounted for one point four percent of all the vehicles
traded in until March fifteenth, which compares with just four
tenths of a percent in the period last year. Analystic
TD Cowan tel barons Tesla could theoretically gain a bigger

Russia and Ukraine are just a breath away from a

a limited ceasefire with Russia.
Speaker 3 (11:24):
Education Secretary Linda McMahon says everything will be done legally
when it comes to dismantling the Department of Education.
Speaker 19 (11:32):
I think if we can show them that the best
plan is to have states in control of education for
their communities, for their students, for their teachers, for their parents.
That is the best thing.
Speaker 3 (11:45):
Speaking on Fox's special report, McMahon said President Trump wants
to close the department.
Speaker 2 (11:49):
As quickly as possible.
Speaker 3 (11:51):
However, they will have to wait for congressional approval for
the department is shut down completely, but it's unlikely they
have the votes to do so.
Speaker 4 (11:59):
Next week, Wednesday will mark one year since the deadly
collapse of Baltimore's Francis Scott keep Ridge. Now the NTSB
says the Maryland Transportation Authority failed to perform a proper
risk assessment that would have shown the forty seven year
old bridges risk of collapse. Six constructions and workers died
when a cargo ship hit one of the bridge's pillars
on March twenty sixth of last year, and.
Speaker 3 (12:20):
As a result, the NTSB now recommending that sixty eight
bridges across nineteen states be evaluated. That list does not
have any in Colorado, but it does include California's Golden
Gate and Coronado Bridges, plus New York cities Brooklyn, Verrizano,
and George Washington Bridges.

The Colorado Department of Agriculture said at least eleven domestic
cats have been found with a strain of bird flu.
Speaker 2 (13:04):
Only one of them survived.
Speaker 3 (13:06):

infections that often result in death. Cases have also been
linked to raw pet food and raw poultry consumption.
Speaker 4 (13:16):
Two ice detainees reportedly still on the run after escaping
an Aurora facility. We'll get the latest from the police
chief coming up next.
Speaker 3 (13:24):
First, though, let's get a check on traffic from the
KOA Traffic Center.
Speaker 2 (13:27):
Here's Jonathan Steel.
Speaker 1 (13:30):
Yeah, we're seeing a little bit of traffic out here,
particularly the two seventy drive. Although it's not in a
delay mode, but I'm seeing slight slowing around York and
Vasquez there. Both directions basically out of Commerce City. I
twenty five still looks really good up north coming into
the city I seventy six. We'll see those backups here eventually. Anyway,
westbound to southbound, that always seems to slow a little

I twenty five is pretty much wide open in and
out of the downtown area. Apparently the shovel buses are

We had that earlier this week, and I'm not sure
exactly what the nature of that was. And also hearing
that the A line is experiencing about a fifteen minute
delay today and that's all due to police activity, So

That part of the nine one one called made from
Ice to Aurora Police stating two people who are detained
at the detention facility in Aurora have escaped. The escapees,
sparking a debate between ICE and the Aurora Police Department,
as ICE claims that Aurora PD refused to help in
that search.
Speaker 3 (14:55):
The escapees were able to leave the premises following a
power outage at the facility, unlocking the doors. Ice claims
local authorities were made aware of the event immediately and
decline to assist in a search, but in a press
conference yesterday, Aurora Police Department Chief Todd Chamberlain said that's
not the case.
Speaker 7 (15:13):
At nine thirty pm on March the eighteenth, there was
a power out each at the ICE GEO facility which
caused some type of security breach. ICE officials believe two
detainees escaped. At twelve thirty am, ICE GEO officials completed
an emergency headcount and confirmed that two detainees were missing.
At two thirty, four and a half, hours after the
(15:33):
estimated time of the escape, ICE GEO officials finally notified
Aurora nine one one and requested an Aurora Police Department response.
Speaker 3 (15:42):
Chamberlain says at three point thirty a watch commander spoke
with the facility to verify the incident and followed the
appropriate Aurora Police Department procedure agreed upon by the facility
on how Aurora PEAD will respond in certain situations.
Speaker 4 (15:56):
So Aurora Police arrived at the scene around five to
fifteen in following the events that ICE claims that Aurora
PD did not act quickly enough. Chief Todd Chamberlain says
the police department was not given an opportunity to do so.
Speaker 7 (16:10):
Aurora Police Department was never asked to conduct an active
search at the time of the escape, nor were we
provided with any of the necessary details to do so.
Speaker 4 (16:17):
At the time of the conference, Aurora Police claimed that
they had very little information on the case or how
ICE would like to see them proceed.
Speaker 7 (16:25):
ICE GEO has still not provided essential information. No escape flyers,
no booking photos, no further details. Our detectives reached out
directly to try to verify some of the facts of it.
ICE declined to offer to be involved in this and
stated that APD was not expected to assist in cold escapes.
Speaker 3 (16:41):
Chamberlain reiterated the fact that ICE supervisors had no expectation
of Aurora PD's involvement in the case.
Speaker 7 (16:48):
ICE supervisors confirmed that there was never an.
Speaker 2 (16:50):
Expectation for APD to.
Speaker 7 (16:52):
Leave this investigation, yet it has become basically public sentiment
that ICE has suggested otherwise.
Speaker 3 (16:57):
But National Border Patrol Council present than Paul Perez accused
as police of being political and not doing their parts
to protect the public.
Speaker 20 (17:06):
When they put their communities at risk. I don't care
what the person escaped for. If there's an escapee, every
law enforcement officer should be out there searching. That's what
we do. We want to do that. We want to
serve and protect our communities. And for the decisions to
be made at the top to say we're not going
to help, that's politics.
Speaker 2 (17:22):
That it's worse.
Speaker 4 (17:23):
Chief Chamberlain also reacting to the accusations made against the
Aurora Police.
Speaker 7 (17:27):
Departments, mischaracterization, in my humble opinion, is unacceptable. I think
it reflects incredibly negatively on the Aurora Police Department and
our willingness and our desire to serve this community and
to ensure that this community is safe.
Speaker 4 (17:41):
He insists this is a federal matter and there's little
local police can do since state law forbids them from
getting involved in federal immigration matters. The two escapees have
still not been found at this time. Will continue following
this story at the top and bottom of the hours

Speaker 3 (19:16):
Coming up next, we'll have the newscast. But first checking
in with traffic Jonathan Steele from the KOA Traffic Center.
Speaker 1 (19:24):
Yeah, we are starting to see some of that traffic
out here. In fact, I've got a little jam up
developing on Ice seventy coming west in between two two
five and Havana. I think there's some kind of problem
that's holding up the drive in there. It looks like
it may be on the right side. Not sure exactly
what it is, but be careful as you're coming through.
It looks like it's going to be a bit of
