We just talked about a moment ago about when and
who and what why you name a starter? And Sean

Speaker 16 (09:16):
Yeah, and got to give credit right because sometimes when
national media comes in, they get something that other local
media might be.
Speaker 2 (09:26):
Scared to ask. We weren't scared to ask this, but.

This next prec this next game will be important and
you have to earn it. What is the problem with
just naming it?
Speaker 2 (10:04):
Like what, I think it's important to the team that
they see.
Speaker 11 (10:07):
In other words, I'm not naming the starting cornerback between
Riley and Mathis. I'm not doing that with these other
positions at receiver. And it would be different if you've
just done it, had made a decision with one position
and then and I'm not ready to do it with
all the positions.
Speaker 2 (10:24):
So, look, he's playing well.
Speaker 14 (10:26):
Now.
Speaker 11 (10:26):
There are a few things in the game that we
got to clean up, and I'm encouraged with how he's playing,
just as I am with Steady and Zach. But I
think there is a process to it. And we discussed this,
really we discussed this back in mini camp when we
saw the Bears named Caleb their starter in the spring.
Speaker 14 (10:43):
And no veteran, yeah and so, and I understand that.
Speaker 11 (10:47):

Speaker 17 (14:34):
I've been in education for you know, well over twenty
years now, and every school year is exciting and this
year I'm I'm very excited to be starting my fifth
school year as jeff Co's superintendent.
Speaker 2 (14:47):
What are the themes for the district this year?
Speaker 17 (14:50):
I would say, in particular, this year, we are excited
to do more of what we've already started, and that
includes continuing to commit to high quality curriculum in every school.
We are also doing some interesting and ongoing work on
reimagining the high school experience to align what we do
(15:12):
with our high school students regarding what they're passionate about
and making sure that they have experiences in our high
school that are relevant to the future world of working career.
And finally, we're embracing the magic of middle school so
that Jeffco Middle school students are celebrated so they can
explore their areas of interest and attain the skills that
(15:34):
they need to thrive in high school and in the
elementary You know, we are constantly focused on ensuring a
foundational experience for reading, writing, and math as as kids
go through our elementary schools.
Speaker 8 (15:47):
You are telling me about AI usage this con Migo program.
Speaker 2 (15:51):
What are your hopes for it this year?
Speaker 17 (15:53):
During this pilot year, we want to see if con
Migo and this AI tool can help our kids in
grades four through twelve navigate the core subjects of math, literacy, science,
and social studies. And so, you know, and Jeffco We're
committed to leveraging innovative technologies to enhance our students learning experiences.
Speaker 2 (16:15):
I talked to you.
Speaker 8 (16:15):
Kind of part Chris Smith and the Cherry Creek School
District earlier this week. He said, with COVID nineteen now
several years behind us, he feels he can really dig
into the learning again.
Speaker 2 (16:24):
Do you feel the same way.
Speaker 17 (16:26):
Yeah, you know, I think we've been focused on getting
back to the learning ever since we've been able to
come back full time in jeff COO. And you know,
COVID it was such an interruption for so many of
our students. We are beginning to see our results and
even last year started to see our results rebound to
pre pandemic levels. But I do think that there's a
(16:46):
sense of normalcy and routine that's coming back, And I
know I'm excited about that. And I've talked to several
staff members here in Jeffco who are really excited for
this upcoming school because they do feel rested, They feel
like things are getting back to a more typical routine
(17:06):
and that's something that is really healthy for both staff,
students and families.
Speaker 8 (17:11):
There are complaints both broadly and against your district. We
have parents who have talked to our station who have
deep concerns about public schools, takes on social issues, what
kids are learning, et cetera. Is your district getting a
bad rap? Do you feel the criticism given.
Speaker 17 (17:28):
The fact that we serve children. You know, people care
deeply about what we do and how we do it.
And so one of the one of the pieces that
we've been working on in Jeffco is family and community partnerships.
We now have a first team that is a point
of contact at the district for families who are struggling
(17:49):
with something in their school. Obviously, the first place we
want families to go if they're having a concern is
the school. But if things aren't working out there, you know,
as the school district, we want families to get support.
I do believe in listening to families, and you know,
on one hand, as superintendent, I need to be an
(18:10):
expert and I need to know what I'm doing when
it comes to educating students, and on the other side
of that coin, I oftentimes find myself needing to take
my expert hat off and put on my listener hat
and really lead and listen and learn to our families
to hear what they want for their student, regardless of
(18:32):
what I think needs to happen as the expert.
Speaker 2 (18:34):
Do you love this job?
Speaker 17 (18:35):
I love this job. I feel very honored and privileged
every day to wake up and come to work in
one of the most beautiful and committed districts in the
state of Colorado, if not the nation. And it's a
privilege to partner with our Board of Education who care
deeply about the students that we all serve, and our
school leaders and district leaders, and our teachers and another staff.
(19:01):
JECKO is an incredible community and we love our students.
We're excited to see them when they start school and
it's going to be a great year.
Speaker 4 (19:10):
That is Jefferson County Superintendent of Schools Tracy Dorlin. She
says enrollment and the closing of schools aren't a focus
or challenge the district is expecting and anticipating this year.
Taking a look at that drive Jonathan Steel in the
KWA Traffic Center, Well.
Speaker 13 (19:24):
It's been an active drive out here too. I'll tell
you we've had so many problems in the latest it's
a big one out west on I seventy. This is
going to be westbound lanes just past Ward Road, right
at the Highway fifty eight junction car versus Semi. They're
talking about people trapped in the wreckage. They've got crews
rolling in there right now. The backup already into our
Vada sitting at Wadsworth. This will impact I seventy six
(19:47):
as well as I seventy on the eastbound side coming through.
It's already backed up that direction too with curiosity. So
with all that activity right now, this is going to
be the late problem that's going to cost you some time.
Think about service routes working around this out there out
of our data Wheat Ridge of the Golden Area. Let's see,
we've got Wadsworth and Yale still tied up with that crash.

In Denver, Governor Pole is getting ready to call state
lawmakers back to once again try to do something about
rising property taxes.
Speaker 18 (21:02):
After seeing a twenty seven percent spike in property taxes
last year. Governor Polus applauded lawmakers at the end of
the regular session for passing a billion dollars in tax cuts.
Speaker 19 (21:12):
This solves the problem that Colorado voters are concerned about.
Speaker 6 (21:16):
It puts very reasonable caps on increase in property taxes.
Speaker 18 (21:20):
But conservatives say the cuts didn't go far enough and
put two more measures on the November ballot this year,
hoping to cut another two hundred and fifty five million
in property taxes by twenty twenty six. Several Democrats worry
those cuts could force the state and local governments to
make cuts to schools, hospitals, and social programs. The mayors
(21:41):

several business leaders asking the governor to call the special session.

News The annual count of Denver's homeless population is in.
The numbers tell some different stories. We're seeing more people
experiencing homelessness this year, however, fewer of them are living
on the street. The data shows an overall ten percent
increase in the number of people without homes, with about
seventy percent of them living in city shelters. The Metro
Denver Homeless Initiative says the numbers are up because more
(22:16):
people are seeking shelter. There are also one thousand more
homeless families in the metro compared to last year.
Speaker 5 (22:22):
The people forced out of an Aurora apartment complex now
suing the building's owners for not doing more to prevent
them from becoming homeless. We get more on this story
live from kiowas Chadbauer.
Speaker 6 (22:32):
The complex on Nome Street was shut down this week
after numerous code violations. A class action lawsuit filed this
week site's issues such as lack of heating and water,
black mold, and rodent infestations. It says the property owners
effectively abandon the complex, stopping trash pickup and not paying
the water bill. The building's management, though, claims that Venezuelan
(22:54):
gangs were the reason for the shutdown. Attorney Benjamin at
de Golia tells Fox thirty one that is not the case.
Speaker 7 (23:01):
For that reason, they had to see property management operations,
but the reality is they had ceased operations long before
this news leak that Aurora was going to be condemning
the building.
Speaker 6 (23:10):

Speaker 13 (25:45):
That that's right, Gina, boy, We've got a big deal
going on out west right now. And I mentioned this
accident a few moments ago westbound passed ward at Highway

with a semi overturning at the interchange.
Speaker 2 (26:01):
They are coming into Wheat Ridge.
Speaker 13 (26:02):
It's versus a car, and it sounds like there may
be as many as three people that are trapped in
the wreckage of that car, the semi on its side.
I believe I haven't got a real good look at
it just yet, but I can tell you that westbound

they're on the defensive side of the ball or offensive.

Well, certainly you see a guy that's not afraid to compete,
and I think that's the biggest fact for him as
he's come into this camp is you can put yourself behind.

He's got a very unique combination of humility and confidence

as a rookie's stepping in here with a lot of pressure,
he's taken that with stride. There's no fear of competition,
there's no fear of getting out there and going for it,
and that's certainly has showed in the way that he's

We will be out there tomorrow morning Broncos Park powered

curious to see, Uh Packers fans travel well, and he
was making fun of because they live in Wisconsin and
it's always just cold and not good there. But I'm
excited to see what it's going to be like because
it's a training camp practice and yet there's going to
(37:07):
be a lot of just other fans there that aren't
Broncos fans.
Speaker 3 (37:12):
So we'll see.
Speaker 4 (37:13):
And it's sold out. I mean it's free, but all
the tickets are gone so they're no longer available, so
of your fan, you won't be able to get in.
Speaker 3 (37:20):
Absolutely do that.
Speaker 5 (37:22):
And I wonder if we saw a little bit of
a rollover because there was that one practice where fans
did have tickets and then they got kicked back, and
I wonder if they had opportunities to get more because
that's when they moved indoors. They didn't have fans for
that practice. I think that was last week. So I'm
curious to see how many are going to be there tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (37:41):
Absolutely well, looking forward to it.
Speaker 7 (37:42):
Obviously, most of the show we'll be talking about the Broncos,
but then we'll also hopefully catch up with the Mayor
and kind of get some recap on these homeless numbers
that came out yesterday. I guess I think there's some
still a lot of confusion over what's mean.
Speaker 4 (37:55):
It's the literal mixed bag where more of them are shelter,
but we have more homeless. So that's getting deeper into
the data, into the details, which I will love to
ask the Mayorf he does join us, absolutely, yeah.
Speaker 5 (38:05):
I'd love to get more on his opinion on all this.
Obviously he's had his Housing one thousand initiative, and he
is completely right and saying there are literally no tents
out in the Denver area anymore. However, there are still
so many people on the streets, so many people at corners,
so many people asking for change. So I'm curious how
that works of like, Okay, you don't see as many
people camping anymore, which leads to the count that says
(38:28):
there's more people in shelters, but there's also still more
homeless because the people in shelters are still considered homeless
US right, conflicting report, but it's just the way that
it's being reported exactly.
Speaker 3 (38:41):
Does thank you, Cole, absolutely all right.
