Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good morning, then good morning.
Speaker 2 (00:01):
Yeah, that was a pleasant trip back from Omaha after
a couple of nice performances by your team, and you
just kind of the comeback kids, aren't you.
Speaker 1 (00:15):
Yeah. No, I'm proud of the way our guys played
both nights. You know, I thought we played very well,
and you know, we found a way to win both
nights after giving up the first goal. But like I said,
it was a long way into into the process of
trying to win a sixty minute game, I know. You know,
we always talk about staying with the game plan and
our structure, and our guys did it both nights.
Speaker 2 (00:37):
Yeah, it seems like they've certainly bought into that. Not
that you want to get behind, but they bought into
the fact that if they do get behind, they can
still get into it.
Speaker 1 (00:46):
Right well for sure, one hundred percent. And you know,
like the game is filled with momentum shifts right at
the end of the day, you know, just you know,
holding on to you know, when the other team gets
momentum and trying to turn that by you know, stacking
shift together and getting your own momentum. And I got
our guys did a good job of that, you know.
On the first night. You know, we give up a
power play goal thirty seconds into the game, which could
(01:07):
have shaken a lot of you know players that early
in the season or whatever. We went through a lot
of stuff this year where guys stayed with it, and
I thought, you know, the second period on Friday, we
came out, you know, Lipper's line scored two goals in
one shift to get us back in the game. And
and and even on on Saturday night as well, we
got a power play goal in the third and Whipper
scores again, and you know, now we're up in the game.
(01:27):
So I think it's one of those things where you know,
you keep doing the right things and keep believing and
good things happen.
Speaker 2 (01:34):
Yeah, you put together that Litzer line with Louis Jammernick
and Jackson Coons. What was you think in putting those
guys together, because they certainly produced well.
Speaker 1 (01:44):
I mean they're all big bodies that that have a
good playmaking ability and they make it tough on the
other team their size and strength and physicality. And you know,
when you when you look at our lineup, you know,
with our forward group there, we've got a lot of
you know, different pieces, lot of good players and it's
not like you have a fourth line and a second line,
the third line, the first line. At the end of
(02:05):
the day, they're four very good lines. And you know
when when you get that littler line out against there,
if you want to say, their lower lines, and then
you create mismatches. And I thought that was a big
deal that there was a bunch of mismatches out there
where we took advantage of.
Speaker 2 (02:18):
Yeah, I think maybe what when I noticed a little
bit was a great feed from Sasha Baver to Jason
Drumnville for the winning goal. Uh. He even said, well,
I thought of shooting, but then I saw should be
coming down the slot. That was a good play, wasn't it.
Speaker 1 (02:38):
Well, it was high end. It was an lead play,
you know obviously you know Sasha has been doing that
all year, and you know it takes great hockey sense,
you know, you know, things closing quick and things go
by fast to make that play. And it all started
in the vison. We got a block and Nele McDonald's
has has the block and he pushes it up up
the ice and you know, juvenile jumps up and you know,
(02:59):
oh mcgloff pushes through the middle of the rink and
the entry to push their d man back, so it
created space to make that play. So yeah, a lot
of a lot of different things happened on that play,
but the execution was very high and obviously to score
a goal on a very good goaltender was a big
deal and the bench erupted, and you know, I'm happy
how we closed out the game right after.
Speaker 2 (03:19):
Yeah, no doubt, and once again you got outstanding goaltending
from teach Sem to Felter. Uh, she's been he's been
kind of a rock back there for the last several games,
has any.
Speaker 1 (03:32):
I think he's been a little bit more than a
rock he's been. He's been a guy that's been like
sharp focused, you know, and practices carries over the games.
You know, he gives you a chance to win. And
you know, like I said at the end of the day,
he's been in the zone here for the last couple
of months now. And uh, and it's a great time
a year to have your goaltender to play play at
(03:53):
that level.
Speaker 2 (03:54):
Well, now you go and a chance to win a
couple of games, make it into the NCAA tournaments. Start
with Western Michigan. You've had some battles with them, haven't you.
Speaker 1 (04:04):
Yeah, for sure. You know, they're a very good team.
You know, we went into their building here a few
weeks ago. We lost the first one, we won the
second one, and you know, there's only two teams that
went into their building and won a game, and we
were we were one of those teams. So you know,
we know what we're up against. But at the end
of the day, like we're very good team as well,
we won a game in their rank and now we
(04:24):
have a one game shot to keep going here and
our destinies in our own hands, you know, we you know,
I don't think a lot of people counted us in
here even last weekend. And you know, those twenty seven
guys in the locker room were binding together here to
have a focus in a mindset, and that's what's most important.
Speaker 2 (04:40):
What do you see? What have you seen from Western Michigan.
Obviously they can, they have the ability to score some goals,
and they've got some good goaltending as well.
Speaker 1 (04:52):
Right, well, yeah, they have two very good goaltenders that
they've kind of platooned this year. But now I think
they've given it to the freshman happens kids. They're playing
both games, you know, over the course of the last
few weekends and then and then they're obviously scoring too
Alex bump And and Michaels and some of those guys
that are are very good offensive players. They got to
(05:14):
make sure they don't give them any time and space
and make it difficult for him, you know, through the
sixty minute game. And again, like I said, it's one
of those things where you know, our puck management and
our execution is going to be a key in that
situation of playing with the puck. And you know, we're
going to have really good practices this week to get
a sharp for Freday.
Speaker 2 (05:34):
You got to make any difference. You guys are used
to playing on big stages, especially the guys have been
around and of course at the Ralph. I don't think
the same sits for them. Do you think that'll be
a help for you, Yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 1 (05:48):
I think once the puck drops, you know, like I said,
everybody talks about it, and you know they played in
big games too, you know, and we we as well.
And I think once the puck drops, you know, and
I think everything else around round you it becomes just secondary.
I know, we're grateful that our fans are going to
be there. There should be a lot of green, white
and black in the stands, and that's awesome. It give
(06:09):
u US hopefully an advantage there. But I think one
thing is is, you know, this time of year, guys
are focused, dialed in, and you know, I think once
the putt crops is just.
Speaker 2 (06:16):
Playing yeah and it's go ahead.
Speaker 3 (06:20):
Paul, I was just gonna say, you know, we we've
talked about this on hawk Talk before and you talk
about how on face offs it's not only just the
centermen or whoever's taking the draw comes into wingers and
just trying to to h and it was such an
interesting disparity from Friday to Saturday in the faceoff circle.
Can you describe kind of what had maybe happened between
(06:41):
Friday and Saturday and the faceoff dots and a lot of.
Speaker 1 (06:43):
These Yeah, we talked about it on Saturday morning. You know,
obviously it wasn't the way we wanted to go Friday
with you know, not doing as well in the faceoff dot.
But you know, first of all, it starts with a
centerment on having a mindset. If you're losing draws clean,
you have to find another way to to negate that
part that is, you know, using your stick and your
legs to tie up. We call it a little bit
(07:05):
to let our wings jump in and not bucks back.
And I thought our centers did a good job. And
you know, when when the wings jump in, they got
to make sure they're on their toes to get that
first touch to get that puck. So I think just
being more focused and ready in the faceoff DOT committed
to win enough puck back. And you know, and and
there's so many teams, especially in our league that are
(07:26):
really good on face offs that you got to keep
talking about, keep working on it, and just make sure
that you're dialed in because that's the first battle of
every play is a face off, and you want to
start with possession.
Speaker 2 (07:35):
Thanks, you got the wash your kid again in the faceoff.
Speaker 1 (07:39):
Dot's pretty good guys too.
Speaker 2 (07:43):
Oh yeah, oh yeah, I'm just saying he's the guy
that I think some people pointed out some of the
things he was doing last year, and I don't think
he's quite as proficient this time around. So it should
be interesting at the X on Friday night. Thanks Bradwell's tonight.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
Huh all right, thanks.
Speaker 3 (08:01):
Guys, Thanks coach, thank you so much. Yeah, head coach
Brad Berry, North gooda hockey. What a big weekend ahead,
an opportunity to uh you want to be playing on
Saturday night and when the final horde sounds, hopefully North
Dakota will be raising some hardware and punching a ticket
if things if things go North Dakota's way. So appreciate
(08:23):
Coach brad Berry. You'll hear more from him tonight, and
appreciate I that I got a question in there and
just in regards because that was my question. Like one
night to the other was so so different basically, and
so so there you know, and again you mentioned Western Michigan.
They've got some guys that are pretty good in the
in the circle, and so does North Dakota. So it
(08:44):
could be an interesting little detail to watch inside the game,
basically on Friday Night's tilt with Western Michigan
