Speaker 1 (00:00):
Charities that do Giving Hearts Day, you know locally, and
so there's a lot of competition on Giving Heart Day
and it's all great. So from an athletics side, yeah,
Giving Heart Day is charitable. So your Champions Club membership,
joining the Champions Club on Thursday doesn't help that overall number,
but it sure does help our scholarship bill. So if

(00:20):
you choose to give to the Champions Club on that day,
that's great, But we would ask on Thursday, on Giving
Heart stay or leading up to Thursday, you can free gift.
We'd ask you to gift from your heart give to
a charity that interests you. So if you're a big
tennis fan and you appreciate the wins that they just
had and almost beaten Hawaii on the road at Hawaii,
maybe consider a gift to their Priority Needs Fund. Or

(00:40):
if you're not sure in athletics where you want it
to go, you could give a gift to the Athletic
Director's Annual Excellence Fund that really goes to help everybody.
You could give a gift to a building, you could
give a gift to scholarships, and that's applicable outside of
athletics as well. So throughout the whole university. If you
want to make a gift to law or to the
med school, you can do that, and every gift homes
and every gift matters, even a you know, a ten

(01:02):
dollars twenty five dollars gift, and those annual level gifts
are great. We've seen the thousand dollars, the five thousand
dollars gifts come in in advance of Giving Heart Stay too.
So it takes everyone to help us get to that
million dollar level at und.

Speaker 2 (01:17):
Val Sussex Director Annual Giving and Northakota champions Club Giving
Hearts Day. And you don't have to wait to get
to Giving Hearts Day to begin, so you can start
right away. But where can people go to do this?
How do they do this? Basically, if they want to
do like as you mentioned, to a specific program as

(01:38):
you mentioned tennis, it could be track and field, it
could be all sorts of things as you mentioned across
the spectrum, but how do they do that?

Speaker 1 (01:47):
Yeah, you can make a gift online right now until
midnight on Thursday, and that would be at our website.
So it's PD like paid so PD dot Undlumni dot org,
backflow g HD for giving hurt to day. So again
that's PD dot und alumni dot org backslash GHD. As always,

(02:12):
I think I say this every time a month. You
could always give me a call. I'm always happy to
help someone make a gift. You could write out a
check and you could mail it to the alumni Foundation.
There's many different ways you can give. Don't let the
fear of making the gift stop you from giving the gift.
So an online gift, a mailed in gift, and over
the ful and gift. All of those gifts are great.

(02:32):
And this is all areas to give, even outside athletics,
there's some that will benefit all students. I would say
the food pantry is a great need for U and
D students, especially now as they're in the grind of
the in the semester and maybe it's a little tough
to make ends meet kind of in the middle of
the month. People are going to the food pantry on
campus and it is a great need for us. And
so if athletics isn't your damn and that's not where

(02:54):
you want to give, that's great. Maybe give to a
student who's really trying to find that next meal, and
that's for the food pantry or Angel Fund. And Angel
Fund is for students who have just a need that
they can't quite reach. Maybe they have a small electrical bill,
or they have a dentist bill, they have something and
there's a there's a block there they cannot pay it.
You could make a gift to the Angel Fund. A
U and D student writes in and requests some funds

(03:17):
for a specific need and then un D is able
to grant those needs. And so we have Angel Fund donors,
food country donors, athletics donors. They're all fantastic and we
love them all.

Speaker 3 (03:26):
Okay, TIMD have questions.

Speaker 2 (03:28):
Yea, I was going to ask you about the Angel Fund.

Speaker 3 (03:30):
When was that created.

Speaker 1 (03:32):
Just a few years ago with COVID. Actually, it is
just a beautiful thing that people is seven hundred and
fifty dollars is kind of the max a student could request,
and that fund is very, very highly utilized. There are
kids requesting funds out of that all the time, and
a lot of time it's for a basic need that
you and I would never think twice about. It's just

(03:54):
something that we do well. It's something now for these
kids that they just don't have the funding for something
unexpected that's popped up in their life, and it's really
been a godsend for a lot of students to use
that Angel Fund to get their car fix so they
can actually get to class or get to work. That's
a cool deal.

Speaker 3 (04:10):
Okay, yeah, giving Heart Stay.

Speaker 2 (04:13):
You can already get into the donation side of things
when it comes to you indie athletics. As as Val mentioned,
it can be incredibly broad where you give to a
fund that basically can support the whole department, or it
can be towards scholarships. It could be also to a
specific program and their priority needs whoever, whatever program.

Speaker 3 (04:34):
That might be.

Speaker 2 (04:35):
Maybe you've ran into a track and field person or whatever.
They've worked with you or or you know, worked with
you in community service and you like them, so you're like, hey,
I'm gonna support their program. You can specifically do that
as well. And so and then you also mentioned your
partner out of Fargo, the partner out of Fargo, and

(04:56):
how does there how does that all become intertwined and
how does how do they become involved?

Speaker 1 (05:01):
Then? Yeah, that Quota Medical Foundation, they're kind of the
driving force for local nonprofits and charities, and they put
up a match they put up a very nice match
and so they'll donate fifty thousand dollars if you raise
fifty thousand dollars. And so that is just a blessing
to have a partner like Dakota Medical Foundation who's willing to,
you know, to fund it. And it's almost like a

(05:22):
named sponsorship, Paul, where their name is on a lot
of our things that we do. We push through their
website just to try to make one big robus day
for really the state of North Dakota. Giving Heart Day
is really a Midwestern thing, so we target Minnesota, North
Dakota and then those who have given before. And yeah,
they are just a great partner at us. They help
us springboard into action on Giving Hearts Day and provide

(05:43):
a website and provide a lot of the back end
work to help us reach that million dollar goal.

Speaker 2 (05:48):
Yeah that's a big goal, million dollars. Also, that match
just as an incredible gift as well on that day
of and you know, Giving Hearts Day, as you mentioned,
is not just a strictly un D thing. We hope
that you keep you and D in mind if you
feel and even you and D Athletics or the Champions

(06:09):
Club in many ways on that day, but again it's
just a great way to remind ourselves to get involved
in one in some way, shape or fashion on Thursday.

Speaker 1 (06:20):
Yes, exactly. And that website is nice because it'll show
all the charities that Giving Heartscave partners with. So you
could do a gift to you and D and a
gift to let's say the CVIC, and a gift to
Grenford Ceblic Schools and a gift to the Why you
could make four gifts and say you have a one
hundred dollars budget, you want to make four gifts and
you want to do twenty five to each four charities
of your choice. They make it really easy to give

(06:41):
and find the charity that you love and someone that
you want to impact.

Speaker 3 (06:45):
Yeah, that's really a great thing.

Speaker 2 (06:47):
And don't early giving is now open for Giving Hearts
Day on February thirteenth.

Speaker 3 (06:52):
You don't have to wait.

Speaker 2 (06:54):
And as Bell mentioned, I mean, why not spread it
around if you know you have various organizations and various things.
Nothing wrong with doing it that way as well. And
you know everybody's budget is different, so you could start
somewhere or you can be very specific, but you know,
hopefully you've got, you know, in this instance, find you

(07:14):
and D and its priorities and different things of interest
to you. And so keep that in mind. Is giving
heart Stay quickly approaches, but don't hesitate to just do
it now and get it out.

Speaker 3 (07:26):
Of the way.

Speaker 1 (07:27):
Yeah, absolutely, get heart sayes special in our community because
we have a lot of people that care, and people
care about you know, cross across the board. Athletics isn't
successful without a lot of other things in town being
successful because it is a team effort and everyone comes
together kind of for the greater good. And that's what
this day is for giving Heart Stay. Let's let's celebrate
the community that we live in and give from our

(07:47):
hearts and make an impact. And if you give to
the U and D Foundation in your pre giving, you'll
get an email, a personal email for me. I'll get
a message every time we get a gift. It's fun.
I love getting those types of emails. There's some bad
emails you get in life, and you're a cook. These
are the good ones, Paul and Tim. When I get it,
and when I see it and I can see that
who gave and where they gave to in the amount,

(08:08):
and then I get to thank them for that. And
my goal is to thank people as quick as I
can here in these pre give gifts. And then Thursday
it will be a little bit trickier because it's such
a big heavy run and gun for today, I won't
be able to thank you quite as quick, but we
will get to thank you out too well.

Speaker 2 (08:22):
Again, pre giving now available and certainly all the way
through the run up.

Speaker 3 (08:27):
Of Giving Hearts Day.

Speaker 2 (08:28):
Actually cut up this Thursday, Tim anything else for Valve
this morning. I think that's really cool about it is
you don't have to give.

Speaker 3 (08:36):
A thousand dollars or whatever.

Speaker 2 (08:40):
You can get twenty five dollars.

Speaker 1 (08:42):
Right, absolutely, yeah, And that's just like anything. Every gift
cones and every donor cones, no matter the amount. We
love all donors from all all ranges. But you can't
get there without without some of those twenty five. Those
those add up over time and those are just as important.
And then maybe we'll build that twenty five dollars donor
into a larger or down the road by showing showing

(09:02):
how well we use their donation and stewarding them them
the right way.

Speaker 2 (09:06):
So again, val just really quick here our end goal
if we can we're aspiring for a million, a million,
a million bucks.

Speaker 1 (09:15):
Yeah, it's a lot, it's lofty, but we can do it, Paul.
But it'll take everybody.

Speaker 2 (09:19):
It is going to take everybody exactly. It can be
done though, but every donation, as you mentioned, every size
can add up quickly. And that just means that we
it's a goal, but and it's a it's a tough
one to reach, but we're gonna sure have a lot
of fun trying to reach it here over the next
several days. So should be huge val Again, the best

(09:40):
place to go when it comes to getting involved Giving
Heart Stay from the U n D side of things.
I know it's a bit complex, so give us that
Giving Heart Stay address again from the un DC.

Speaker 1 (09:53):
It's p D dot u n D alum dot org
backslash Giving Heart Stay so D. We will have a
really heavy social media presence. If you haven't seen it already,
I know you and the athletics, Nicole and her team,
they have all the graphics. We feature one of our
favorite men's golfers, Nate Perrel, on some of our Giving
Heart stage graphics, so look for those online. Those will

(10:16):
have a clickable link. Those are easy to click and follow.
All the alums in this area who we have contact
information for should be getting an email or two. A
lot of folks got something in the mail from us,
so I think we're putting the word out there nicely
that as always, you can always give me a call
if you have any questions, and I can help you
give as well. And my dress line is seven oh
one seven seven seven for zero seven eight, and I

(10:39):
can help make any gift or I can give you
that email address again or whatever you need to get online.

Speaker 3 (10:44):
And give what's your number again, Val.

Speaker 1 (10:47):
Seven oh one seven seven seven for zero seven.

Speaker 3 (10:50):
Eight, perfect Val.

Speaker 2 (10:52):
We wish you a great busy week ahead. We want
you to be having to respond by email to many
many people until you're hurt.

Speaker 1 (11:01):
So that's correct. Yes, And if I know you really well,
you can't even get a text message thank you just
so I can send one last email. It's a lot
of thinking, pall. It's fun and you know me, I
love to talk and sometimes a call, a phone call
thank you is more fun than an email. But I'll
get those thank yous out and it really means a
lot to us that you'd consider University of North Dakota
on Giving Hearts Day.

Speaker 2 (11:21):
Hey, it's a worthy thing and it's just a great
emphasis here to really attack this goal. And for all
of us that support und in all the different ways
we can make a difference this week by chipping away
and shooting towards a million. Thanks to all the partners
and most importantly to everybody out there that will consider

(11:41):
being involved in Giving Hearts Day.

Speaker 3 (11:43):
Thank you, val. We appreciate the drop in this morning.

Speaker 1 (11:46):
Yes, happy Monday. You guys have a great day.

Speaker 2 (11:48):
All right, there goes vals Essex of the U and
DI Champions Club, and yeah they're aspiring for great things.
But everybody can get involved as of now. As of now,
that's that's that's lofty, yeah exactly, but but but very
but very attainable with the great support system in place.
