As mayor of Realville, he offersa state of the Nation every single day.
This is the Morning Show with PrestonScott. Thirty five minutes after the
hour of The Morning Show with PrestonScott, that's Grant Allen and joining us
on the program once again, CarlSteinbeck, and he is covering this trial
(00:23):
for us, giving his expert backgroundand analysis, is bringing it all to
bear. I guess on the proceedings. The trial of Charlie Aedelson. Day
four took place yesterday. Carl isformer prosecutor as well as state public defender,
military defense counsel and again our guestthis morning, Carl, Good morning,
(00:44):
How are you. Good morning,Preston. What stood out to you
yesterday? If you were to kindof capsule for our listeners who are not
able necessarily to sit by their TVor their feed and watch the trial.
What stands out from yesterday? What'sthe high point? Well, yesterday we
had a number of law enforcements asientscome forward to testify, and we also
(01:06):
had ritually all of the remaining ofthe wire taps and the other type videos
like the Dulce Vida videotape, whichis where the bump happened, and then
we had this scramble to try tofigure out what was the one who was
this? Was it law enforcement orwas it some gang members that are trying
to extort money from the Aedelsons. So what happened was we had Charlie meeting
(01:30):
with Katie in the Dulce Vida restaurantdown there in the Fort Lauderdale area,
and they were talking about what todo, and Charlie actually told Katie to
fix this problem and if necessary, she needs to kill this person who's asking
for the five thousand dollars. Sothat was really damning testimony. He also
talked about if we knew they hadevidence against us, we'd be leaving the
(01:53):
country as well. So that wascritical information I thought that they got in
yesterday, but was very key isthat they had in the agent. But
two things that Wendy Agelson had saidearlier in her testimony. She had stated
that she was not unfaithful to herboyfriend Jeff Licasse, and the FBI agent
testify that the records showed that shehad been seeing somebody on a regular basis
(02:17):
the whole time she was dating JeffLaicus. And also Wendy had stated that
there was unfettered access that Dan Markel'sgrand parents up in Canada, the grandparents
of his two boys. There wasvisitations of approximate an average of two a
year, but the agent testified thatthere was like none for a six year
(02:38):
period and only recently after the statelaw came in at effect, the Markel
Act was they were they starting togrant some visitations and it seemed to coincide
with an upcoming court date. Soreally it really made Wendy look bad.
And so I think the state isjust really crushing it against the defense.
The defense really doesn't have much tooffer. I was going to say,
(03:00):
you know that dulce vita recording. They you know, the prosecution, the
state presented the analysis of it,how it was done, allowed for the
cross examination of the expert that didthe cleanup, if you will, of
the audio, and the things thatyou've mentioned would be enough. I mean,
(03:21):
I've mentioned before carl I sat ona grand jury for six months.
There's more evidence in this case thanany individual case I came across as a
grand juror. There's more circumstantial evidence. It's just piling up. And when
Charlie said what he did, aboutwe'd leave the country if they had anything.
My god, that just ends theclaim that this was some extortion attempt
(03:45):
against them. Oh totally. Imean, there is like no need I
even think for the evidence yesterday,it'd have to come forward. That's how
strong the case was in the previousdays from the government's case in chief.
So I think the government and couldeven wrap it up as soon as today
and then we'll hear just from probablytwo witnesses from the defence and then probably
(04:05):
Charlie because think about a presence. So far, they have not introduced a
single shread of detail of how thissupposed extortion blackmail scheme took effect, other
than some general questions to Katie mcbahnwa. In between the go between between Charlie
and the two hitmen, I hada listener right in and say what was
(04:27):
interesting to her is they showed thevideo of the bump and a Apparently it
was a headline of a newspaper articleabout the murder that was handed by the
FBI undercover agent to Donna Adelson, and that she never ever looked at the
paper. She just folded it upand walked away. Not the type of
thing you would do unless you knewexactly what it was about. Right.
(04:51):
That was really a brilliant move bylaw enforcement, because what they didn't want
to do was scare her so muchat that moment that she could maybe call
nine to one one right there,So that there was a very soft general
approach. He's very respectful to herand so but he told her enough it
was it had something to do aboutthe business up north, and just by
(05:12):
that alone, she knew what thiswas about. She knew this was about
the killing of Dan Mark Hill. It's so obvious to the jury. This
is the M a D Radio networkwhere we challenge you to make a difference
in your world. Mad you getit, you know, try to make
a positive influence upon others, youknow, be a good person. At
(05:34):
the morning show, Preston Scott fortyone minutes past, Carl Steinbeck with us
a seasoned attorney and helping us asanalyst. Here the trial of Charlie Edelson,
Carl as a prosecutor. It looksas though they are revealing evidence that
(05:58):
just clinches this against Charlie Adelson. So I'm just curious, are they beginning
to lay the groundwork in this trialfor a trial against Donna, Adelson and
Wendy Absolutely. I think the evidenceis so strong against Donna right now that
if she was sitting at the tablenext time, also as a co defendant,
(06:21):
as a co conspirator, they wouldabsolutely convict her as well. And
I think the evidence against Wendy wedon't have as much as a digital trail
because they intentionally and smartly they thoughtkept her out of the discussions and whatnot,
But what they failed to do wasbe aware of the other things that
(06:42):
she was doing that indicated she wasfully aware, fully on board. And
they also presented something on very keyagainst Wendy. When she was down there
on July sixth, twelve days beforeDana was murdered, she asked them what
was he doing between twelve and eighteenJuly? And guess what he got killed
on eighteen July. Yeah, thatis remarkably damning. I'm curious, though,
(07:08):
are they able to get out ofthe country or is there any limitation
on Harvey, Donna, and evenWendy traveling outside the United States Unless there's
charges brought forward and they have restrictionson travel issued by the court, they
can freely come and go as theywant right now. I had been told
(07:30):
by sources quite a while back thatthere were recordings of Charlie Aedelson checking on
private flying charter arrangements to leave thecountry, and that in fact, he
was bugged inside an airplane. Idon't have any way of knowing that was
true, but the comment adulci Vitacertainly opens the door to that being a
(07:53):
possibility. My question, though,is this, if they are right now
where they are, they're financially verywell off. Would it surprise you if
they tried flee in the country. It wouldn't surprise me at all. These
people, I think, are verydesperate at this point, having this lurking
(08:15):
over their shoulder. How do yousleep good at night knowing at any moment
we could be arrested? And Ithink the real pressure is going to happen
presson is when he goes to FloridaState prisons with a conviction. I think
he's going to have a lot ofproblems with his own personal security. I
think there's going to be extortion issues. I think the prisoners will know about
him, and think about we havequite a few Arian nation types and prisons
(08:41):
as well. The prisoners there willknow about him, and they're going to
know about this money, and Ithink they probably could put some heat also
on the other Athelstons who are notin prison and exhort them for money as
well, because their addresses are easilyfound but through Google searches. You know,
one that has not been mentioned inthis proceeding at all is the other
(09:03):
brother, and he was featured inpart in the podcast over My Dead Body.
I find him an interesting person becausehe seems to be concerned that this
was not beyond his family's capability, right. I think he would be a
(09:24):
good witness to talk about the finefamily dynamics, the family dysfunction in particular,
Donna's extreme control and attempts to exertextreme control over the choices of spouses
and girlfriends of the boys in particular. And he could testify personally that the
wedge that was driven between him andsomebody he loved and how Donna got made
(09:50):
him believe that he needed to getrid of her and marry a Jewish gale
and that wasn't in his heart ofhearts, and he wound up leaving that
person and going back to his firsttrue love. His life was sort of
messed up for a while too,so I think also would really be interesting
is he was talking to them rightafter this happened, because he was still
in constant communication with him all theother Agolson's I'm talking about, And I
(10:13):
think it would be pretty revealing tosee what they were telling him about what
happened to Dan Mark Hill. AndI think what they probably did is said
we weren't going to talk about thisat all. So I think whatever they
said to him is going to bereally revealing and showing that they were guilty
parties. Do you think the prosecutionbrings him in before the end of the
(10:33):
Charlie Aedelson trial. You know,he's on the witness list president. Whether
they do or not remains to beseen, But you know, I think
they got enough already so they don'thave to. If they just want to
do a little extra, and becausehe's there, they're going to go ahead
and call him. But I mean, like I say, it's really a
slam dunk case to the prosecution, and everything's going really well. The brilliance
(10:56):
of the prosecution bringing all this digitalevidence, all the emails, all the
phone calls, which can be verytedious, very complex, and it can
be very boring to the jury,It was exciting and riveting to the jury
the way they did this, Sotheir graphics of all this evidence was just
phenomenal, and it was so easyfor the jury to digest. So I
(11:16):
think it's all going to play verywell in the end for the state.
Georgia Kapelman is very good at whatshe does. Carl, thanks for your
expertise. We'll talk again tomorrow,Yes, sir, thank you. Carl
