The New Hits ninety five point seven. Hey Jr. Here and the Hits
hang out. Very special guest. He sold out tomorrow night at Summit.
I'm honored to be joined by BensonBoone. What's up brow We do And
it's a good day. It isa good day, beautiful day here in
Denver too. It is. Andthere's like a there's a big parade going
on downtown. Yeah, the Nuggetswon the championship. They did, they

(00:22):
did first ever in franchise history,so the city's pretty hyped about it.
Yeah, I got that vibe.Me and my buddy Jacob were just walking
downtown like just trying to find abite to eat. Yeah, and everybody's
just so happy. I love it. It was wild down there this morning.
Dude, I want to talk aboutyour single, I want to talk
about your EP. I want totalk about the big show tomorrow night at

(00:43):
Summit, But first I want toask you about your start in the music
industry. Yes, this was basedoff a dare? Is that right to
say? This was sort of?Yeah? Can you kind of explain to
us because from what I've what Ilearned, I did my research on you
that you were dared to do likea Battle of the Bands. So I

(01:07):
grew up with four sisters who alltook piano lessons, so we had a
piano at home, and that waslike the only musical thing I ever did.
I was always an outdoors guy.I never really was like into singing
or even thought it was a possibility, but some people knew I played the
piano. And my buddy in highschool, my best friend, he played
the guitar and he sung a littlebit, and he was like, yo,

(01:30):
we should do Battle of the Bandsfor our senior year. Like it's
it's kind of it kind of kicksoff the school years at the end of
the summer. Yeah, and everybody'sfamilies come and it's like, you know,
con candy and popcorn out in theback of the high school on the
field, and it's a great littleevent. But like you know, I
was just gonna play the piano forit. I agreed, and I was
like, cool, Great, Wegot a little gig going, and we
practiced a couple of times. Itwas like me on the piano, him

(01:52):
playing the guitar. And then wehad this girl singing and she quit the
day before. No, she waslike, I'm not gonna do this stage
fried or one I don't even know, like we don't really know. And
I was like, man, that'sreally perfect timing, like thank you for
doing this the day before. Andso we would we were either just gonna
like quit or you know, oneof us was gonna sing yea, and

(02:15):
it would it would make sense forEric to sing. Eric was my friend.
He's like he's a good singer.He has a good voice. So
I was like, yeah, perfect, this is a great it's toy find
Eric, you just sing and he'slike no, yeah, yeah, this
is a great perfectly one. Yeahyou're gonna singh And I'm like no,
no, you know me my wholelife, you know, I don't sing.
I played piano. That's what I'mhere for. Yeah yeah um and
so yeah. We went back andforth for a while and then finally I

(02:38):
was like, dude, fine,if you're if you don't want to sing,
I'll try it. And I triedit and it was like definitely better
than I expected, but but itwasn't like really great. Well, singing
is so difficult, it is,and talk for a living. When you
don't like really go for it,right, there's no way to really find
out if it's there, and soI kind of like, you know,

(02:59):
seventy percent went for it, andI was kind of embarrassed to like try
hard. I mean, you gotthe whole school. They're just staring back
at you, right, Yeah. And so we get to the performance the
next day and it's like the realdeal, and I was I was kind
of nervous. And we get tothe battle of the bands at the end
of the night and everybody's watching.Of course we're dead last, right after

(03:22):
the best band and the high schoolYeah, and we're like, oh man,
this is just so unfortunate. Andso we get up and my mom
doesn't even know I'm singing. She'slike front row and she total surprise playing
the piano. And I get upto sing and I'm like, well,
here we go, introduced the band. And I just went for it,
like full on, gave it myall, just hoping that did in like

(03:43):
some magical world that would go well, right, And I got like halfway
into the verse and I literally stoppedbecause it was like actually singing, yeah,
and I didn't even know what todo. And I look over at
Eric and he's like, yeah,He's like, dude, go keep going.
What's going on, and so Iwas like, sorry, guys,
I'm gonna like restart and I startedover and we just went through all four

(04:04):
songs and I just like crushed it, went for it and really went for
it. And like from that dayon, you know, obviously I started
singing more, but like we endedup winning and it was a crazy day.
Was like bawling in the front andthat was like it was a really
crazy start to music. It kindof seemed like a movie. Yeah,

(04:25):
And you know after that, Istarted practicing more and seeing more and it
took me a while to like postanything about it, but that's how it
started. So what are you like, twenty twenty one or so I'm about
to be twenty one, right,So this wasn't that long ago for you.
Now it's like three years ago.Man, So this whole rising pop
star you didn't really like see thiscoming? No, this is definitely,

(04:46):
ah, not where I expected togo. I went to college for a
year and I was studying architecture andinterior designs because like that not you know,
not this that I was planning ondoing. So like architecture was at
like family business or was that likeyour own interest just my own interest.
I do art, and so Iwanted to use like the you know,
my maybe more artistic eye for thingsand like like build custom houses. Yeah,

(05:11):
but obviously I'd way rather be doingthis than than building custom houses.
So I'm happy with where I'm at. Yeah, right, that nine to
five, that grind man, that'slike real man's man's work. And now
we have this rising single in thestars. Right, tell me a little
bit about this song because it kindof comes from an emotional place for you.
Yeah. Um, I wrote thissong about my grandmother who passed away

(05:32):
a few years ago. I'm sorryabout that, and oh it's okay.
I'm at a good place with itnow. But I do think, um,
you know, part of being humanis losing things and people that you
love. And as hard as thatis, like something we take for granted
sometimes, um, are our memoriesand you know, when somebody passes away,

(05:55):
I feel like, you know, you always have that like that period
of shock and you can't really acceptwhat happened. But then when it does
kick in, it's like the worst. It is the worst feeling, and
I think something has to be done, like whether you write a note to
that person then like burn it oror hide it somewhere or put it somewhere

(06:15):
or whatever it is that you wantto do whatever, Like everybody has their
own thing, but for me,this song was was like what helped me
with that and writing about that andopening up about, you know, how
I felt and trying to remember thebest parts of her life. So this
is a very special song to mein that case or in that sense.

(06:36):
But I think my favorite part aboutit is that obviously nobody thinks about my
grandma when they hear in the Stars, like they think of someone in their
life that they've lost or something intheir life that they've lost. And that's
why, you know, this songis so emotional, is because everybody takes
away their own story from it,and so it's just, you know,

(06:58):
a beautiful way to to unlock thatemotion and you and help you remember those
times with that person. Yeah. And I remember playing the record for Hit
or Miss, and I'm sitting thereand just a couple of years ago,
my nana passed away and I rememberbeing able to fly home to see her
right before in surprise her, likea couple of weeks before she passed away.

(07:20):
Dude, and that song, excuseme, it like it hit me
super hard. Yeah, you know, dude, it really does. And
it's like, man, I evenjust thinking about it makes me emotional.
And it is like such a specialmoment too at these shows with the crowd,
to be able to talk about thatand see the emotion on these these

(07:44):
people's face when they hear the songalive and can really connect and I can
just tell what that song means tothem, And it is so special to
me to be able to see thatfirsthand. It's got to be special being
up on that stage, like you'regoing to be tomorrow night Summit sold out
and this crowd back and the starstop of their lungs to you, man,
what is that? Like? That'scrazy? It really is the craziest

(08:05):
thing to hear, Like to hearpeople singing back, you know, lyrics
to me and I have like Ihave these in ears when I sing that,
Like I can't really hear much outsideof outside of my voice when I'm
performing. Is there like a certainlike timer in there that keeps you like
in Yeah, there's like there's likea click, there's a connatroom. Okay,

(08:26):
yeah, But like these crowds havebeen so loud that it's like those
don't even do anything. They're sojust singing every word. It is crazy.
Yeah, So what kind of whatkind of concert can we expect from
you tomorrow night at the Summit whoIt'll It'll be a roller coaster of emotions.
But man, I do think like, um, this is a craft

(08:50):
I have been developing for a whilenow, and I'm very proud of these
shows. So I think, um, for anyone that goes and gets to
gets to see UM, I thinktomorrow will be a beautiful night, just
full of of emotion right now.Is this your first time in Denver?
This is my second time in Denver, and the first time I was in

(09:11):
Denver was for a layover. Yeah, this is technically my first time in
I love that. I love that. So first time performing in the Male
High tomorrow night. And speaking offirst time, you just released an EP,
Yeah, Pulse, Pulse. Tellme about the name of it?
Where it? Like? Where doespulse come from? Yeah? It is
okay, this is like a likea really metaphorical answer to that. But

(09:35):
pulse, in my opinion, islike the most basic sign of life.
You know, like when you whenyou can feel that something has a pulse,
you know, it's alive. Youknow, it's breathing, you know,
there's there's blood pumping through its veins. Like that's what a pulse is.
And for me, um, it'staking me. Like I guess I
haven't been writing music for very long, maybe like like like a little over

(09:58):
a year and a half. Yeah, but um, you know, I
have been developing that side of thingsvery quickly, and I have finally found
like music that I love writing andlike a vibe of music that I want
to continue writing. And it's what'simpulse. And so for me, like
this is the beginning, this islike where it starts. This is my

(10:20):
pulse. This is like how youknow, like from now on, like
my music is alive, and thisis this is how you're going to tell
And this is like the start ofyou know, kind of I think what
you'll be hearing from me in thefuture. I love that, dude,
the start of something big. Yeah, absolutely, what do you think?
What would you say? Is kindof the most meaningful track on the epdu

(10:43):
the most meaningful, uh is Deaviilya little Runaway. Okay, correct me
if I'm wrong. This one's aboutone of your sisters. Yeah, it's
about my older sister Kayley. Okay, what's kind of the backstory with that
one if you don't mind, ofcourse. Um, So Kayley struggles a
lot with her mental health and itis hard to watch sometimes, and especially

(11:05):
for me because like I feel likegenerally, like I'm a pretty energetic and
happy guys seem like it. Yeah, so it is sometimes like hard for
me to like actually understand what itis like to feel that way. And
I know that I'll never fully understandit, and so all I can really
do for Kayle's be there for her. And I know that that's, you

(11:26):
know, something that a lot ofother people go through, because you know,
struggling with your mental health is notuncommon, like like it like a
lot of people struggle, especially nowadays. It's super out there. Yeah,
and like no one person is goingto know exactly what another person is going
through, but you can always bethere for them. And so that's kind
of the sentiment behind Little Runaway islike I'm here for you, and I

(11:50):
know, like I may not knowexactly what you're going through and know exactly
what to say, but you canjust come be with me and like I
I will take care of you. That's kind of the meeting behind Little Runaway
Most Beautiful, Well, we're gonnahear in the stars Little Runaway the rest
of the EP tomorrow night at Summitsold out. Show Bro, any final

(12:11):

I genuinely owe all of this tomy fans because I know like without them,
I would be nowhere. So thisis just a blessing to me to
be able to come here. I'mvery excited for tomorrow night. Well,
