(00:02):
Nice. Okay, the whole newol check check check check. We don't
leave home without Cody anymore, no, I would say, not too all
right, Welcome to the Hits Hangout. My name is Jay arn. Now,
as you're probably aware, October wasour Anti Bullying Month, and that's
something that we take a lot ofpride in. Here it hits ninety five
(00:24):
point seven now. We asked ouramazing listeners to hop online and take the
pledge to take the stand against bullying, and we were overwhelmed with the amount
of pledges. It feels really greatto be a part of a community as
strong as this, and as promised, my guy Max is here to perform
the honor of Anti Bullying Month.Thank you so much for being here,
buddy, my pleasure brother. Thanksfor having me. This feels so cool.
(00:45):
I know you and the crew here. We have Ryan and we have
Cody on the sacks. Okay, yes, I know you have some amazing
songs for us to perform here ina few moments. But first tell me
Max, what was it about thiscampaign that really struck a chord with you.
I am a short king five growingup, I definitely got bullied a
lot for that. I did ballet. I play music. You know,
I experienced all the bullying things asa kid, and I think, you
(01:08):
know, in some ways it definitely, you know, made me love and
accept myself more. But but peopleshouldn't have to go through that. You
shouldn't have to be bullied to findyourself. I think people should love each
other for who they are and andand there should be more acceptance and kindness,
and that's what we're always trying topreach. So of course this made
total sense for me to be partof. I completely agree. That's why
my sign off every night after Iwrap up my show is remember it's cool
(01:30):
to be you love it, andI just I believe that in my heart.
Let's go ahead and jump into ourfirst track here, Yes, and
what are we gonna play? We'regonna start off with one of my songs
called Blueberry Eyes, and it featuresWe've got any Army Listening? It features
my friend Suga of BTS, soI've been you know, we've been playing
the song for a while and Icontinue to try to work on his Korean
rap, so this first one hashis Korean rap. I'm gonna continue to
(01:53):
do my best to represent and hopeyou guys, enjoy it all right,
let's get into it. Here's Max. Let's get it. Yeah yeah,

(05:02):
It's serious. Heys, Guys,Sometimes I forget just how incredible of a
damn singer you are, like youHoly smokestacks, thank you. And then
for you to know all that Koreanwhat like how do you even begin trying
to just from like hearing it orgreat question. So my wife went to
college with one of her best friendswho's Korean American, and when we found
(05:23):
out in the music video, Sugarwasn't able to be in it. They
were on their promo schedule. Somy wife was pregnant at the time with
our daughter, and we learned itfor the music video as our vows and
her friend who she went to collegewith, like broke it down and taught
us every phrase and everything. Andshe still helps me. Anytime I like
have a song come out for aK pop group or something and I do
a cover, she helps me learnit again. So she started my coach.
(05:45):
I'm like slowly just trying to learnKorean via songs that I write and
hopefully one day it works out.No, that's incredible, man, it's
JR here and the hits hangout withMax. I wanted to talk about if
if somebody that is hearing this rightnow, maybe they're in school, maybe
they're at work, you know, they could be a kid, that could
be an adult, and they're dealingwith bullying, what would what would you
(06:06):
recommend for them to do? Ithink it's beautiful when you have it's really
scary to talk about it. AndI definitely in my own experience, I
can understand coming from a place ofjust wanting to keep it to yourself or
feeling like that strength. But Ithink that for me when I went through
it, the thing that was mosthelpful was was talking to the people I
was closest with, my parents,my best friends, and sometimes that that
(06:28):
felt a little That was that wasthe scariest part, was actually taking that
that lead to do that, Andand once I did, I felt so
much more safe about it and felta little more normalized, you know,
And I think it's it's so importantto just be open about those feelings and
and you're not alone, absolutely notalone. We're going to dive into song
number two here. What do wehave prepared next? Up? Is that
it's a new one I have it. It's with my friend Jake Goldenau and
(06:51):
Bozzie. Uh. It's not calledStrings, Strings, yeah, and it's
it's it's off this new album that'scoming out top of next year. And
it's been really fun. We weplayed, we did like thirty five shows
over the summer and all these arenasand stuff, and we would teach the
whole crowd the choir part that I'mgonna sing, and we'd have the whole
arena be the choir. And soobviously this is studio session around Quire today.
(07:12):
But I'm gonna, I'm gonna.I was gonna let's che for it,
ja, but we figured, youknow, let's just let's just have
these three boys and we'll get it. We'll get it for you guys,
a little intimate acoustic version. Ihope you like it all right, let's
get into edges M I hear stringsplay have a time you look bad?
(07:45):
Don't you know that's what you do? Feels like eat my heart, double
time, win your road? Don'tyou know that's what you do? What
you do? What you do girl, you mute out all the nonsense,
(08:07):
all the times we can talk onany tide, they can never start.
I know you got other options,a lot of prospects, but they only
know the singing without want to boxing, pushing Burney's with your high heels or
your hearts hops, turn in headsand give them all the fields where that
you up could be your sign? All right? Might be losing my mind
(08:30):
because I hear Strangs play, haven'ttime you my way? Don't you know
that's what you do? Fields likecool beat my heart, double time being
your road? Don't you know that'swhat you do? What you're doing?
(08:54):
What you do? Yeah, youknow that classical thing plus allid that them
Jean's yard, it's timeless, thediamonds and song Sinato will sing. I
want that matrimony that she's in macrimony. I want you everything all the time.
The way you're pushing buddies with yourhigh heels, all your hearts hops,
turn in it and give them allthe fields. Way that you up
(09:18):
could be a sign. All right. Mcter losing my mind. Kazzar hears
James play have a time you looknow, don't you know that's what you
do? Feels like make my heartbeat double time, making yr L.
(09:41):
Don't you know that's what you do, what you do, what you do.
That is strings li here in thehits, hangout, golly man,
(10:03):
that's just so good. You're soso so good. I wanted to dive
in just like, how long thatI've actually known you? I know,
right, And it's just it's supercool to see your growth and to see
you're still with the same crew likefrom the beginning and when I first met
Maxx. Just a little trip downmemory lane here real quick, if you
guys don't mind. I think itwas about twenty fourteen. Wow, right,
jibberish, yes, just come outodd. I remember that track,
(10:28):
yeah, crazy yeah, yeah yeah, And we had so much fun there.
And then to be able to partywith you again in Nashville when Lights
Down Low had just hit and Gleedid that song take off and resonate with
so many people. I know,we're going to get into that song here
next. Talk to me a littlebit about the track, why it's important
obviously, and just kind of alittle bit of the backstory and how it
(10:50):
felt for that to kind of justoh, it was spectacular, you know,
I think it kind of goes withthe theme about being accepting of who
you are in your own story asmuch as possible, because many of the
people know this. But I actuallywrote that song for my now wife and
I proposed to her with that song, and when that happened, you know,
I do pop music, I goon stage, and at the time,
there were a lot of people thatwere around me that really didn't want
(11:11):
me to be open about that storyor they wanted me to be like the
single pop star guy, and thatjust was never me. I'm always just
honest about where I'm at. AndI remember that was one of the first
times in music for me that Ireally made That was so important to me
to be open about that story becauseI wanted people to know that you should
love who your mental love, whoeverthat is, whatever, whether you're gay,
straight, bisexual, whatever it is. I think you should love who
(11:35):
you're meant to love, and peopleare meant to be with who they're meant
to be with, and that's whatthe song's about. And being open about
that story was so important, andI think it's it's so great to sing
it every day. It never getsold for us to sing it because it
came from that place, and soit's so special that all this time later
people still resonate with it. Youknow. Well, here's the thing,
Max is, every once in awhile you come across a record that is
timeless. A lot of stuff iskind of here in this moment, maybe
(12:00):
in this decade of this genre. But a track like Lights Down Low,
you can vibe out to that now, two years ago, ten years from
now, It'll always be that kindof hit you right in the hard track,
and I'm excited to hear it againright here in the hits. Hangout,
absolutely, brother, here we go, guys, Heaven only knows where
(12:35):
