get hit.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
Okay, well let's just get started. Hello, thank you so
much for being here.

Speaker 4 (02:07):
First of all, yes, yes, of course, thank you for
having me.

Speaker 2 (02:09):
I'm excited to have you here. Let's talk about you.

Speaker 1 (02:12):
Tell me about what led you to the health and
wellness space.

Speaker 2 (02:17):
Did you always know you wanted to do that?

Speaker 4 (02:19):
Gotcha? Yeah, yeah, I did.

Speaker 5 (02:21):
I've actually been nursing now for about fifteen years and
I still love it. I am originally from Compton, California.
I'm now reside here in San Bernardino. I'm one of
seven children, seven six girls, one boy, and I'm actually
number six of the seven. So yeah, we lived in
Compton and it was definitely always interesting. Oh yeah, and

(02:43):
then my family later moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, and
that's where I finished my high school and then started
my college education.

Speaker 4 (02:50):
So that's where I went to UNLV for nursing.

Speaker 5 (02:53):
I started there and actually as a kid though, I
did realize that medicine kind of interest me. I remember
we had an elementary school teacher. We had career day
and I told my teacher that I wanted to be
an anesthesiologist when I grew up.

Speaker 4 (03:10):
That's a good profession. I was like, yeah, Internet, I'm like, oh,
they make good money, they stay busy for you.

Speaker 5 (03:16):
After that, fee, I went to a trade school while
in high school and I became certified as a medical assistant.
So that's kind of when I knew that, Okay, medicine
is something I really want to make as a career.

Speaker 4 (03:28):
So that was awesome.

Speaker 5 (03:29):
Right after that, I went into college, got my bachelor's
in nursing, and then I worked as an RN for
about seven years before I went to get my masters
to become a nurse practitioner.

Speaker 2 (03:39):
Oh that's amazing, that's awesome. So what kept you on
that path?

Speaker 1 (03:43):
I mean because okay, I have kids, have a daughter
who just graduated college, and you know, there's so many
things when you start entering that space, you know, going
to school, that go oh, maybe this isn't the path
for me this, Maybe this isn't Maybe I'm thinking something else.

Speaker 2 (03:58):
Maybe it is not. I want How what made you
just stay the course?

Speaker 5 (04:04):
Well, nursing itself is definitely very challenging, so it's the
hard program to get through. So just trying to stick
through it was a challenge. And you know, something that
kept me into it was just the just knowing that
I'm helping others and just helping them to.

Speaker 4 (04:20):
Feel good, to feel better because.

Speaker 5 (04:22):
Everyone comes in the hospital, they're not feeling well, they're
doing stick and just to have that good bedside manner
just to help comfort them in their time of distress.

Speaker 4 (04:30):
Yeah, just said me.

Speaker 5 (04:30):
Like, oh okay, I am making a difference. You aren't
able to help make them feel better. I was like, oh,
I like this feeling. So that's something that helped keep
me in nursing.

Speaker 2 (04:38):
That's a great reason.

Speaker 1 (04:39):
That really is I know I'm making a difference, and
then I get that feeling inside that says I am
you know that. I get that reassurance. Well, it's not
easy to start a business, and I am very I'm
in all of your business. I think it's wonderful. Tell
us how Quintessential Care Health and Wellness really got it
start and why here in the Inland Empire?

Speaker 4 (04:57):
Gotcha?

Speaker 5 (04:58):
Yeah, I do agree, starting a business it's not easy,
but when you're like self motivated, you're discipline, very determined
to accomplish your goals like anything as possible.

Speaker 4 (05:07):
And that's how I was.

Speaker 5 (05:08):
I was just determined, like I wanted to go ahead
and be independent start my own practice. So that was
something that I really focused my attention on after nursing
for such a while with and then become a nurse practitioner.
Then that gave me that flexibility to have that freedom
to want to have my own company. Quintessential Care kind

(05:29):
of came about when me and my husband was just
kind of brainstorming. We're just doing different business ideas. One
day thinking about, okay, what.

Speaker 4 (05:36):
Can we do?

Speaker 5 (05:37):
And I was like, oh, maybe I'll start my own
family practice. And he was like, oh, you know that
may work.

Speaker 4 (05:42):
That's a good idea. So I'm like, yeah, you know,
I thought about it for a while. He was like, okay,
what would you call it. I'll sit up.

Speaker 5 (05:48):
Quintessential Care would be, you know, a good name this
because I believe that my care that I give is
more essential and pure, just that perfect representation of professional
health care. Sounds like that would be a good name.
That's fitting for me. And he agreed.

Speaker 2 (06:06):
And it's very different.

Speaker 1 (06:07):
I don't know any other quintessential really businesses.

Speaker 5 (06:11):
Yes, that's a good name, and that's what I thought, like, oh,
it'd be different, you know, something to make people think like, hey,
quentnessential Care.

Speaker 4 (06:16):
What is that?

Speaker 3 (06:16):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (06:16):
Yeah, yes, thank you, thank you.

Speaker 4 (06:19):
So we thought about it for a while.

Speaker 5 (06:21):
He helped me with the process of going to you know,
get business licenses and get incorporated and just having the.

Speaker 4 (06:28):
Building of the facility.

Speaker 5 (06:30):
So we kind of just had to get all the
foundation done and once that we got open kind of
just kind of grew from there.

Speaker 2 (06:37):
Why do I either why why specifically San Bernardino.

Speaker 5 (06:41):
I would say the Ie mainly because the La County
is very saturated with meths bots, so I preferred an
area that was in need of the services, yes, and
you know, lack the resources. So I thought I would
be more beneficial in the area of the Empire, and
the Empire has you know, good things to offer, so
much it would be a good idea. So one looking

(07:02):
and looking where we wanted to place our business, I'm like,
you know, this can't be a bad idea.

Speaker 4 (07:05):
Yeah, I got so much to offer here, so.

Speaker 2 (07:07):
I love that.

Speaker 1 (07:08):
No, I totally agree, and I'm I'm obviously a big
fan of the Inland Empire. Grew up my whole life
here and there's no need to drive somewhere else exactly,
Like why do you have to go to the.

Speaker 2 (07:17):
OC to get services you need? Why do you need
to go to La to get services you need? We
have such a beautiful, thriving community and.

Speaker 1 (07:24):
It is nice to have, you know, businesses say, no,
I want to be in this community so people.

Speaker 5 (07:30):
Don't have to go into exactly. And just the economic
growth is self like it's growing so much, so it's
like it's good for the future. Like we have that
sustainability of here in this area.

Speaker 1 (07:39):
Oh my gosh, for sure, it's not going to get
any smaller, right, I'll.

Speaker 2 (07:43):
Tell you that definitely.

Speaker 1 (07:45):
So what trends are you seeing right now in the
health and wellness industry and what do you hope to add,
like you know, to your business as you go along.

Speaker 5 (07:53):
I would say there's definitely a trend in like next
gin ingredients such as like excelstone peptides.

Speaker 2 (08:01):
Peptides, that's a word that's like an word I see
all day long on Instagram on TikTok.

Speaker 5 (08:07):
Yes, yes, this symbiotic formulas, they're really coming out of
the lab being in more products now. So it's definitely
more skincare and different skincare treatments that use these things.
So I definitely see the trend in skincare as being
very popular. And another thing I noticed was like hair loss,
hair thinning. It's another thing that's concerning to a large

(08:30):
population of people. So it was my idea to maybe
think about bringing on some hair restoration treatments and then
your future to Quintessential, just to broaden our services.

Speaker 1 (08:40):
And build people's confidence and help their overall well being
and all in the health and wellness space.

Speaker 2 (08:46):
That's for sure.

Speaker 4 (08:47):
Definitely a skin and hair goes hand in hands.

Speaker 2 (08:49):
It really does.

Speaker 1 (08:49):
Skin and hair. And now what I'm going to bring
up weight loss. So you know, that's been a very
big thing, a topic that we've talked about a lot
through this podcast. When we first kicked off this podcast,
I talked a little bit about my health journey and
how the podcast actually has really helped me, not like
in educating myself along with educating our community, which has

(09:12):
been really really cool, and it's changed my way of
thinking about certain things and the way I feel and
the way I move my body every day. So let's
talk a little bit about how you and I actually connected.
So I found Quintessential Care when they found me, they
actually just wanted to partner with us with iHeartRadio and

(09:35):
you know, maybe do some advertisements. But what I really
thought was so wonderful was the timing was of the
essence because I was already.

Speaker 2 (09:42):
In that space of I wanted to lose weight and
I was having such a hard time.

Speaker 1 (09:49):
In our first season of Covering Your Health, I made
it a goal to do my half marathon again. I
hadn't done it in seven years, and I used to
do them for.

Speaker 2 (10:00):
Equently, and I got off the.

Speaker 1 (10:04):
Training wagon and I had an accident and my back
was like and I was getting older, and then I
started losing my confidence, like can I even do it again?

Speaker 2 (10:16):
So that was my whole through Like the first season,
you know, I was train mode, train mode, trade mode.
So I was like, now I really need to focus
in and I did it. By the way I did that,
I hit it. It was really hard.

Speaker 1 (10:34):
So so that was a goal I set for myself
last year. This year, I really wanted to focus on
weight loss. I even through my training, I just really
didn't lose weight. Yes, I got stronger, but I didn't
lose weight. And when I when you and I connected
through iHeart, it was really wonderful timing because I was like, okay, well,
what what can we do?

Speaker 2 (10:54):
What can we you do?

Speaker 1 (10:56):
You offer at your facility, and of course it was
elp Ones right, and I was so curious, and I
was like, is this even gonna be for me? You know,
you hear stories and you don't know and all of
these kinds of things. So the timing was of the
essence for us, I think, and we started down that path.

(11:16):
And I also was you know, doing meal prepping. So
I already felt like I had some tools you know
that was going that I was putting into my toolbox,
and the gop ones was like the next thing for
me to just try.

Speaker 2 (11:27):
Let's see if this actually works.

Speaker 1 (11:29):
Are you seeing a lot of people come in with
that same feeling like I just I need to try
something else.

Speaker 2 (11:36):
It's just not working for me. Something else is not
working for me.

Speaker 5 (11:39):
Yes, Yes, we definitely get a lot of clients that
come in like, you know, I've tried everything I've tried,
you know, other weight loss supplements and I'm at a
plateau or either I'm stopped steeing results. So definitely, if
they're a good candidate for the GLP one, that's something
we would recommend just to help give them that booth
so that they're you know, have energy to exercise. We
encourage them to have a more healthy diet and exercise

(12:02):
and regularly and that just helps work together with the
GLP wants just to help them have better results.

Speaker 1 (12:07):
Yeah, yeah, for sure. And you know it's I'll just
say personally, for me, it was slow going. You know,
I was I was talking, I was talking to you
all the time.

Speaker 2 (12:15):
Yes, A pound I lost abound, Yes.

Speaker 4 (12:21):
Start off slow, discouraged.

Speaker 3 (12:24):
I don't know.

Speaker 4 (12:27):
What am I.

Speaker 1 (12:29):
But really it was weight loss though it wasn't like
it was I was going up and I wasn't staying flat.

Speaker 4 (12:36):
I was losing gradually, just very slowly.

Speaker 1 (12:38):
So but I've seen that with other friends of mine
to some some have it slow sometimes, you know, I
don't know why. Men they always go they like, how are.

Speaker 2 (12:46):
They losing it so bad? What advice can you give
to someone?

Speaker 1 (12:51):
So I'm now over twenty pounds down, which is crazy now.

Speaker 2 (12:56):
Like now I feel like I've lost race, you know
what I mean?

Speaker 1 (13:00):
Yeah, I was like, okay, once I hit that twenty
pound mark, I was like, it is working day.

Speaker 4 (13:06):
I didn't still believe it.

Speaker 2 (13:07):
At fifteen pounds, you know what I mean?

Speaker 4 (13:08):
Like more.

Speaker 2 (13:10):
Twenty pounds.

Speaker 1 (13:11):
I finally was like, that is a number that shows
me this is working for me right with all the
hard work too, like with all of the things, with walking,
with the food, with I eat a.

Speaker 2 (13:21):
Lot better than I used to.

Speaker 1 (13:23):
That helps, and you give me a plan to help
with that too, So that was really good.

Speaker 2 (13:27):
So what kind of advice could you give people like me?
Just to get started?

Speaker 5 (13:32):
I would definitely first say for us to get out
of our own way and just get it started. Yeah,
because a lot of the times, as women and mothers,
we do have these busy schedules, we tend to put
everyone else first ahead of us. So we definitely want
to just take the time to say, Okay, I need
to work on me and just give it a try,
because you know, you deserve it.

Speaker 4 (13:50):
It's an investment in you.

Speaker 5 (13:52):
Yeah, and you need that to keep on to continue
to care for everybody else. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (13:57):
Yeah, and I know for me, and what I would
say to it for a little bit of advice is
to go to your primary care physicians.

Speaker 2 (14:03):
Talk to them about this.

Speaker 1 (14:05):
See what they say, because they're going to have your
blood work, you know what I mean, They're going to
have that kind of They're going to have a little
bit more in depth conversation with you about.

Speaker 5 (14:13):
Like where is your you know, your medical history, your
medical history, goals you have for yeah, yeah, and guide.

Speaker 2 (14:20):
You Yeah exactly.

Speaker 1 (14:21):
So there's there's definitely many avenues for for getting started,
but the key there is just do it.

Speaker 4 (14:28):
Yeah, go for that consultation.

Speaker 1 (14:30):
Consultation, go and ask all the questions, get all the
information so you don't feel like you're on this journey alone.
And I know there's a lot of companies out there,
you know right now that they'll just mail you stuff
and that's that's fine, and that works for people, it
really does, But I don't know. For me, it's like
I really.

Speaker 2 (14:46):
Need like a team.

Speaker 4 (14:47):
You need that, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1 (14:52):
I know that through the years, I just need someone
to tell me like, oh no, look, yeah, yeah, what
are you trying now? And that could be a doctor,
that be your doctor, that could be you know, and
if your insurance covers it, then that could be a
great plan for you, or you can find a team
like yours as well. The definition of wellness is like

(15:12):
really extensive. Obviously, Why is it so important to take
one's wellness practices, especially as many women like myself, moms included,
are balancing these busy, crazy schedules right now, especially schools
starting back up. Why is it so important for us
to stay focused?

Speaker 5 (15:31):
I would say it's important mainly because we need time
to care for ourselves pretty much, mind and body. We
don't want to just focus on one thing, but we
kind of got to encompass the care of our whole
body as one just because we needed to sustain our
busy lives, so we don't want to, you know, care
for Oh, I mean just do this one portion of

(15:52):
myself and you fail on the others and it's not
fully functioning. Just like your car. You say you need
to take care of your car. In order for it
to function, you have to give it gas in order
for it to run. So our care and our wellness
would be like that fuel for us to keep going.

Speaker 4 (16:08):
Yeah, so that's important.

Speaker 2 (16:10):
Why don't we come with those check engine lights though?

Speaker 4 (16:13):
We should tell you exactly what's wrong?

Speaker 2 (16:17):
Yes, a little. I just need something to say, Okay,
it's time for my old check.

Speaker 4 (16:26):
Gas renit.

Speaker 1 (16:30):
How do you balance a busy business and also your health.
You've actually tried the GPS to yourself, right, how do
you balance all of this?

Speaker 5 (16:39):
I would say definitely in the beginning, starting a business
kind of overwhelms you and take a lot of your time,
so it is very challenging to balance family life, work life,
personal time. So as the business start to grow, you know,
as we're getting more established, just finding that I have
a team that I can more delegate some task to,

(16:59):
because at first I'm wearning all the hats, so I'm
doing everything by my core, so that definitely becomes time
consuming to where you're starting to take your work home.

Speaker 4 (17:08):
You're doing work all day long. It just doesn't stop.

Speaker 5 (17:10):
So having that team to help to take a load
off your shoulders kind of give me a little bit
more freedom to have that personal time, that family time
to to just refresh and recoup and then go back
at it. You know.

Speaker 1 (17:25):
Yeah, and especially since you're you know, your preaching wellness
right mm hmm, you.

Speaker 2 (17:29):
Have to live it. You have to show like, no,
I have my own balance too. I'm not here twenty
four hours a day. I'm not.

Speaker 1 (17:36):
You know, you have to have that balance, whether it
be with you know, your own health or whatever, with
just seeingior.

Speaker 5 (17:42):
Family, yes, and those kinds of yes, and definitely falling off,
you know, eating more, being you know, not having time
to work out. Can you can see that way gain
So me trying the GPL ones, I was like, okay,
I can you know, test it out, see if it's worked,
So that way I know it's effective too for.

Speaker 4 (17:58):
To my clients.

Speaker 1 (17:59):
That's that's the other thing, right, Like, so you can
say like I have done this, Yes, here are the
side effects that I had or here is what you
can expect to feel. I wanted to make sure I
knew this before, you know, I talked about it.

Speaker 4 (18:11):
Definitely lost.

Speaker 5 (18:12):
I would say in that three month period, I lost
about fifteen pounds, which was.

Speaker 4 (18:16):
My goal and I was like, okay, I'm good here.

Speaker 5 (18:17):
Yeah, and just trying to maintain it after that with
you know, healthy eating, exercise and it kind of helps
to maintain.

Speaker 4 (18:22):
Keep that weight off.

Speaker 5 (18:23):
Yes, definitely a joint effort of not just relying on
the medication but working with it.

Speaker 2 (18:29):
Yeah, working with it. Absolutely. Well.

Speaker 1 (18:32):
This has been really cool and I'm excited we're going
to actually this is gonna be a two part episode,
so I'm very excited about that because in our next episode,
I'm we have questions from listeners awesome, yeah, about weight loss,
about gop ones and you know, your expertise in that
situation and that in that space would be fantastic.

Speaker 4 (18:52):
So I love it, looking forward to it.

Speaker 2 (18:53):
Or We're gonna have a lot of fun.

Speaker 1 (18:56):
Of course, as exciting as this all get, there's so
much more to cover, So join us for the next episode.

Speaker 2 (19:02):
You won't want to miss it, and hopefully we got
some of your questions in there. So we can get
