Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, we're on the line with number nine, Mecha
Buka on the line.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
I did it.
Speaker 1 (00:04):
I pronounced it right. Was that smooth?
Speaker 2 (00:06):
Yeah? You did it? Mecha A plus, A plus? All right? No,
you did your research?
Speaker 3 (00:12):
Way to go? Was that something you faced a lot
of challenges with in school over the years?
Speaker 4 (00:16):
My whole life, it's all good though. I love having
a unique name.
Speaker 1 (00:19):
And absolutely it's a beautiful name.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
I appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (00:22):
I like it. You know, we were watching you guys
out there, obviously. I just brought it up. Yesterday was
the hottest day in the history of Tampa Bay. Could
you tell a difference between today and yesterday?
Speaker 4 (00:34):
I could a little bit. The only difference is yesterday
we ain't have no pads on. So today was our
first day of pass so I think that made up
for the couple degrees that.
Speaker 2 (00:42):
It wasn't right yesterday.
Speaker 4 (00:43):
But no, it's been. It's been hot old training camp.
But that's exactly the way we wanted. We wanted to
be hard and tough out here because we know it's
going to turn into an advantage for us come to season.
Speaker 1 (00:53):
The next time we're out here, we're in pads. The
next time we're out here for training camp too, so
we'll be in pads as well, So make you guys.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
Glad to see that.
Speaker 3 (01:01):
Besides the heat, how's it been adjusting to Tampa in general?
Speaker 2 (01:04):
It's been good. You know, kind of it was a whirlwind.
Speaker 4 (01:07):
You know, I got drafted and all of a sudden,
I'm moving, you know, across the country. You know, I'm
from Seattle, so I'm about as far as.
Speaker 2 (01:14):
Far I get from home.
Speaker 3 (01:15):
Yea.
Speaker 4 (01:15):
But fortunately there's a direct fight, so my family's pretty
happy about that. But you know, everything kind of hit
the ground running, did everything fast. I'm in the building
twenty four to seven, trying to you know, find my
food spots and you know, get my body right and
find out where I'm going to live. So it's been
it's been a challenge, but it's been a fun challenge.
Speaker 3 (01:32):
Now, what was that exact moment when it hit you, like,
I'm officially in the NFL. This is happening.
Speaker 4 (01:38):
Shoot, probably around the first practice. Yeah, I'm lining up.
I'm like, okay, I'm next to Mike Evans and across
from me is Levonte David.
Speaker 2 (01:47):
So that's a little bit different for me.
Speaker 4 (01:49):
But you know, it's been a learning curve and it's
been it's been fun to be able to you know, uh,
thrive with all the guys and just work on my craft.
Speaker 1 (01:56):
Have you noticed a difference between a college training camp
and NFL training camp so far? What's stuck out for you?
Speaker 2 (02:02):
Yeah? Absolutely.
Speaker 4 (02:03):
You know everyone asked me, oh, what's the biggest difference
going to the NFL and all that stuff like this,
But I'll just explained it this way. You know, there's
there's a jump from middle school to high school. There's
a jump from high school to college. It's the same
thing with the NFL. There's a jump from college to
the NFL. So everyone's a little bigger, a little better,
a little faster, comes at you, a little quicker. So
it's just the next level of the game. So it's
(02:24):
the same game I've been playing my whole life, but
just the highest you can play it.
Speaker 3 (02:27):
That Now, if you had to pick a word or
phrase to describe your rookie season mindset, what you got.
Speaker 4 (02:34):
Let's see, that's a good question. I like that question.
I would probably say opportunistic.
Speaker 3 (02:43):
Oh, I like that word.
Speaker 4 (02:44):
The advantage of everything that comes my way. Uh, you know,
whether it's one rep or it's lots of reps. I'm
gonna try my best to put my everything on the
field and do what's asking me.
Speaker 1 (02:52):
So, you know, you mentioned some of these legendary Bucks
names that are on the roster you're actually playing with
right now, the little research which I was like, you know,
I think you guys you matched up against Benjamin Morrison
at least one time right in your college career, and
he's a rookie on our team too. We just taked
him not too long ago. How has it been the
relationship between some guys that used to go up against
(03:13):
college you're in the same team now.
Speaker 4 (03:14):
Yeah, I played him three times in my college career,
so you know, not necessarily a new face. And then
you know, Tedz Johnson of the receiver with me, played
him in the rose Bolt this year, so we talk
about that every day.
Speaker 2 (03:26):
He's a little salty about it. But it's been fun.
Speaker 4 (03:29):
We did the you know, the whole draft process together,
and you know, we see each other at Indy and
all this type of stuff, and just to end up
on the same team with some of the guys that
you know and are cool with, but also meeting the
new people and you just spend so much time with
the rookies altogether, you create close bonds for sure.
Speaker 3 (03:45):
Now in addition to working on those bonds with them,
how are you building chemistry with Baker Mayfield?
Speaker 4 (03:51):
It just comes from from him knowing that I know
what I'm doing. You know, he's such an event and
he has the playbook down pat I think that chemistry
comes with getting reps and on the field, but also
him having trusted me, knowing that I'm not going to
run the wrong route, so I got to make sure
that I'm lined up in the right formations. I'm where
I'm supposed to be on time, and even if the
targets and the chemistry don't come there right away, over time,
(04:12):
as we're both watching film and knowing what to expect
from each other, it just comes with it naturally.
Speaker 1 (04:16):
We kind of have You've been able to do any
of the field chemistry building things with the team yet.
Speaker 4 (04:22):
I mean not too many. We you know, we spend
a lot of time in the building, a lot of
time you know, on our iPads, watching film and all
that type of stuff. You know, me and some of
the rookie wide receivers we hang out sometimes go get
food or whatever the case may be so. But yeah,
for the most part, we're just focused on on what
we got going on here.
Speaker 3 (04:39):
Now, what do you think we got mad in NFL
twenty six coming out August fourteenth? What do you think
you're mad in rookie rating is going to be.
Speaker 4 (04:46):
I have no idea. I'm not a not a huge gamer,
but you know I'll have to get mad at for sure.
I played college football twenty five when it came out
and game, so I don't have too much to say
about our raid. And obviously you know they got their
jobs for reasons, so hopefully they do me justice and
then we can see a bump up over time.
Speaker 1 (05:03):
We were talking to Benjamin the other day and you've
talked about things that you took up and now that
you live in Florida, I mean, like you said, you're
from the other side of the country pretty much. What
kind of Florida things are you planning on getting into
as far as Florida lifestyle.
Speaker 4 (05:17):
Well, like in the summertime back in Seattle, whenever you
see a body of water, you kind of want to
jump in, and I'm learning that's that's not exactly what
you want.
Speaker 2 (05:24):
To do here.
Speaker 1 (05:25):
So especially the fresh water exactly, So.
Speaker 4 (05:28):
Yeah, so stayed away from that. You know, I wish
I could fish. I don't though, because I'm allergic to fish.
So yeah, it's unfortunate. Like I still hypothetically could, but
i'd have to go with a buddy and he'd have
to take it off the hook for me and I
just I don't want to be a burden, so I
just stay in my own lane. But since coming here,
I've already been a huge golfer, So there's a lot
of good golf around here, you know TPC Tampa. I've
(05:49):
been there a couple of times, played that track, So
getting to know the courses a little bit more around here,
and also that's a good way to connect with the
guys as well.
Speaker 3 (05:56):
Now, if you had a chance to see Happy Gilmour
too that came out, not.
Speaker 4 (06:00):
Yet, I'm really looking forward to it though. I love
I love the first Happy Gilmore. I'm excited to watch that.
Speaker 3 (06:05):
Which what's one thing you've learned about the Bucks organization
that's surprised your better made you proud to be a
part of it.
Speaker 4 (06:13):
I don't know the exact statistic on it, but we're
like a homegrown team, so everyone you know, most people
on the on the roster were drafted here or developed
here and all that type of stuff. So we don't
have to outsource our talent. We build what we have here.
And uh, you know, just a great team chemistry. Everyone
takes it serious. There's no there's no divas on the team.
And even just coming in like you know, Mike Evans
(06:33):
and Chris Godwin, the old vets in the room, Sterling Shepherd,
they're they're vetted guys who have lots of snaps in
the NFL, and you know a lot of them are
probably gonna be Hall of Famers and all this type
of stuff, but they still take the time out of
their day to give me advice, to check in on me,
ask me how I'm doing.
Speaker 2 (06:47):
They're always giving me pointers.
Speaker 4 (06:48):
I mean, Chris Godwin's literally, you know, asking me if
I need a tower, I need water on the sideline
since he's not practicing right now.
Speaker 2 (06:53):
So you know, just stuff like that.
Speaker 4 (06:55):
It's just like it's it's a community on this team.
Speaker 1 (06:59):
Mount Rushmore wide receivers. Who you got all time, all time?
Speaker 2 (07:02):
Oh snap, all right, you're.
Speaker 1 (07:04):
Gonna have to leave out somebody.
Speaker 2 (07:05):
Good.
Speaker 4 (07:07):
Wow, that's a great question. So I'm gonna go Jerry
probably twenty years. It's hard to do at wide receiver.
And then I'm gonna give them to the only one
who shares that statistic with him, Mike Evans Okay receivers,
and then I'm gonna go Randy Okay and Mega Tron
(07:28):
the that's beautiful.
Speaker 1 (07:30):
Maybe it'll be for a fifth down the road twenty
years from from now.
Speaker 2 (07:34):
We'll see.
Speaker 1 (07:36):
Yeah, I appreciate the interview, man, Yeah, thank you appreciate that.
What's what's the spots? I think you said you've been
hitting some food spots. What are you like in so far?
Speaker 4 (07:42):
Okay, So one place that I've been to multiple times
because the food is really good is Jay Luigi's. Okay,
little Italian spot, you know, lunch, a little brunch, lunch,
I hear you dinner. I think that's like near the
Hyde Park area. So that's probably my number one spot
right now.
Speaker 1 (07:59):
Okay, there you go. It's been great to have you on.
Speaker 4 (08:01):
Man. We appreciate you. Yeah, God bless you guys. Hope
you guys have a great rest of the weekend. Yeah,
see y'all later.
Speaker 3 (08:07):
Thank you so much.
