Speaker 1 (00:00):
All I got West and Anderson back in the studio
after a couple of years we were in the old studio.
Good morning man, Good morning man.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
How you've been. It's been two years. Like you said,
now you.

Speaker 1 (00:08):
Had a full beard last time I saw it.

Speaker 3 (00:10):
Hey, time's changed, the new Maverick. You know, everybody's got.

Speaker 1 (00:14):
Us playing the park right there. You actually look younger
now than you look.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
Dan, You're still young right now, a little crazy with
big red beard.

Speaker 1 (00:22):
Well, you know moster games going on today, tomorrow and
Sunday at amily Arena.

Speaker 4 (00:27):
No, it's was it Benchmark International?

Speaker 1 (00:30):
Benchmark internationally just changed that on us.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
Well, I think last week.

Speaker 4 (00:35):
Yeah, we're calling it the bench right now, we're trying
to find a new nickname for it.

Speaker 1 (00:39):
I think the bench is good, but I like the
mark as well. So yeah, maybe we can call it
the Flip after you're done with it this week.

Speaker 2 (00:48):
And that's for sure.

Speaker 1 (00:49):
So what's new?

Speaker 4 (00:49):
Man?

Speaker 1 (00:50):
So refresh? Everybody's uh, you know, mind where you are
in the lineage.

Speaker 3 (00:56):
So Dad he created Grave Bigger in nineteen eighty two.
Dennis Anderson, the legend himself, my oldest brother, Adam Anderson.
He's been driving for twenty plus years. Ryan Anderson, he's
been driving for close to twenty years. And christ and
my sister, she's been driving for about eleven years.

Speaker 1 (01:12):
And now has anybody gone rogue and said, Hey, I'm
going to do something else besides do flips.

Speaker 3 (01:18):
Man, that's the only thing that we're good at in
the Anderson family. We're only good at driving monster trucks.

Speaker 1 (01:22):
Gotta be good as something.

Speaker 5 (01:23):
Man, Is it like a rite of passage that you
have to drive the grave digger truck and then like
you get baptized into it and then.

Speaker 3 (01:29):
He gets Man, you graduate high school, you either drive
the wheels off a monster truck or go to college.

Speaker 2 (01:35):
And here we all are.

Speaker 1 (01:37):
Wheels off college. Yeah, give me a truck. Keep Now.
There is a Monster Jam school.

Speaker 2 (01:44):
Though, absolutely Monster Jam University.

Speaker 3 (01:46):
It's actually run by one of my dad's biggest arch enemies,
Tom Mintz.

Speaker 2 (01:50):
Max They and that dude.

Speaker 3 (01:53):
He is insane, fourteen time world champion and he has
trained some of the greatest Monster Jam drivers that there is.

Speaker 2 (01:59):
Two days.

Speaker 3 (02:00):
Fernando Martinez. I'm gonna go ahead and name drop him
for once. He's a I'm still considering I'm a rookie man.
It's his second year and he's doing stuff out there
that it's making me shaking my boots. And I felt
like I was the top dog. And then he comes
in on this summer tour and here we are. We're
fighting back and forth, and it makes it a lot
more fun, that's for sure.

Speaker 1 (02:20):
Yeah. I mean it's kind of like, you know, you
got to have the new school versus the new school
rivalries and the old school rivalry when it comes stuff.

Speaker 4 (02:27):
What's the rivalry like in Monster Jam?

Speaker 5 (02:29):
Is it like you guys are like letting the air
either tires or maybe like shorten of radio wire out
or No.

Speaker 3 (02:35):
Honestly, with us, we don't talk that much trash. We
do all of our talking with the truck. Yeah, we
do all of our trash talking with the truck. We're
gonna go out there and you're saying some smack. You're
talking some smack in the locker room. I'm gonna I'm
gonna show you what's up. Whenever we hit that floor.

Speaker 4 (02:51):
What truck does that guy drive?

Speaker 2 (02:52):
El Toro Locos? It's pretty cool looking, it blows smoke.
The love it. But whenever I got to compete against him,
I don't like him.

Speaker 4 (03:03):
There you go.

Speaker 1 (03:04):
We were just looking at So there's a couple of
new stories we wanted to get with you on, including
we were just talking about competition. They they said that
twenty percent of people say that they're not competitive at
all in anything. And with a family like here is
that all drives monster trucks.

Speaker 3 (03:22):
Oh man, we were racing to get dressed as fast
as when we could in the morning. We competed against everything.
Whenever I got my driver's license. I know I probably
shouldn't be saying this book, go right ahead. Whoever could
get the fastest, go to get home the fastest. Whoever
could get to the shop the fastest and not get
pulled over him between?

Speaker 1 (03:40):
Does anybody say when you got the door, be careful? Ah?

Speaker 2 (03:43):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, whenever you're crazy, Like.

Speaker 1 (03:46):
What's your idea of being careful when you're flipping around
in a monster truck? That's what I'm talking about.

Speaker 5 (03:50):
Just imagine the police in your hometown be like, oh,
it's just the Anderson kids.

Speaker 1 (03:54):
Just let him go too wrong. And there's another story
as well. And now I I kind of looked at
your bio in this I thought about you immediately because
there's some people that don't listen to music. And I
know you probably listened to some music at some point,
but when you're in your truck warming up, you don't
listen to any music.

Speaker 2 (04:13):
Not really know.

Speaker 3 (04:14):
The very few times that my crew chief Chandler West,
throws music on the radio, usually the truck is upside
down with one of the tires broken off of it
or something by the end of it. And it's usually
ninety percent of the time ac DC that he plays
there you.

Speaker 1 (04:28):
Go, there you go. I was hoping it'd be creed, but.

Speaker 2 (04:30):
Hey, yeah, no, we'll throw some higher in there to high.

Speaker 5 (04:33):
Yeah. It's like you don't land the backflip your you take.

Speaker 1 (04:37):
Me Grave Digger Driver, West and Anderson in the studio
of course, moster jam today, tomorrow and Sunday at Emily
Slash Hunting. I already forgot the name Benchmark.

Speaker 2 (04:51):
I don't even live.

Speaker 1 (04:54):
What what's the what's what's the Anything new in your
repertoire is as far as stunts and tricks that you're
bringing this year this season.

Speaker 3 (05:04):
Ah, you know, I've been playing around with balancing the
truck on one tire.

Speaker 2 (05:08):
Wow.

Speaker 3 (05:08):
Yeah, whenever we do the crazy moonwalk tricks that everybody
sees and you know they were they were cool about
seven years ago. Everybody's doing them now, so we're trying
to trying to see what the next best thing is,
and that's balancing the truck on one tire and wow, hey,
we're still we're still in the practice phases with it,
but we're one of the only to attempt it and
do it, and we're gonna be doing a lot of

(05:29):
it this weekend.

Speaker 1 (05:30):
When you pull that off in front of the crowd,
that's gotta be the right.

Speaker 3 (05:34):
And usually we're at such a low rpm because we're
trying to keep the truck very controlled that we can
hear the crowd inside. Especially whenever I'm doing that trick,
I hear the crowd get electric and I know that
I'm about to get a high score.

Speaker 1 (05:46):
Man, that is awesome right there.

Speaker 5 (05:47):
How do you guys come up with those kind of tricks?
Do you just like jump in the truck. We're like,
let's see we can get this somethingody on one wheel?

Speaker 2 (05:55):
Happy accidents, Happy accidents. Absolutely.

Speaker 3 (05:58):
There was a time where I wasn't too good at
Moon and I was getting a little bit too fast
with him and I'd hit the lip. I call it
on the ramp and the truck threw up onto one
tire and I went ooh, I could do that. I'm
not good enough right now to do it, but I
could do it down the road, And two years later,
here we are.

Speaker 1 (06:13):
Now, when you're flipping a truck around. I know you
got to have a pregame meal. I guess I don't
know what kind of Like, what's it swimming? You gotta
work two hours for you? Yeah, I don't know how
long you have to wait something like that, But what's
what's your pregame meal? Oh?

Speaker 3 (06:26):
Man, I start my morning every day, and I hope,
I hope you guys are ready for this bowl of
nails out any milk, bowl of nails, bowl of nails
without any milk. No, I'm a I'm a big pop
tart guy. Before I get in the truck, something small
light that's not gonna tear my stomach up too much,
because I don't want to be getting out of that
truck at halftime having a messed up stomach.

Speaker 4 (06:48):
Nah, there ain't no bathroom breaks in there.

Speaker 2 (06:49):
No, you gotta be in.

Speaker 1 (06:54):
As far as you know when you after you is
there a decompression time like after you pull off something
like that. You I know, you don't listen to any
music before you go out there. Is there a point
where you need some alone time after?

Speaker 2 (07:10):
Oh yeah, one hundred percent. Man, all of us, all
the drivers.

Speaker 3 (07:13):
We go into the locker room and we'll sit there
and the adrenalinees coming down and you finally get settled
in and you're like, holy crap, I just went out
there and did that in a monster truck, and now
I get to do it again four hours later.

Speaker 1 (07:26):
Yeah, I mean, I can't imagine that adrenaline. I've done
a lot of crazy stuff before. I mean a race
BMX for a long time and that was, you know,
jumped out of airplanes and we've done some crazy stuff,
but nothing like this. What's what's something besides monster trucks
that has really gotten your adrenaline to a peak level
and that it would be comparable?

Speaker 3 (07:45):
Man, I don't even know nothing quite like a monster truck.

Speaker 2 (07:49):
There's nothing compared to you a big roller coaster guy.

Speaker 3 (07:51):
That's whenever I'm comparing or telling kids, whenever they asked me,
what does it feel like in a monster truck? It's
it's about like a roller coaster, except for whenever you
get to the bottom instead of it being tracked. We
have thirty two inches of travel that we land on.

Speaker 1 (08:03):
Man, that's a very uniaque job right there. Ridiculous. I
don't know how you guys do it.

Speaker 4 (08:08):
Do you guys have a priest in the back, just
like praying for you when you walk out.

Speaker 2 (08:11):
Actually, Bryce Kenny drives one of the monsters. He's a
man of the cloth.

Speaker 1 (08:15):
Okay, he just gives blessing.

Speaker 3 (08:19):
Yeah, he does prayers on the track before the before
the show kicks off and usually gives us pretty good luck.

Speaker 1 (08:25):
Man. That's such an interesting line of work. And what
a great unique family you come from. We appreciate you
coming this studio totally.

Speaker 2 (08:33):
Man, thank you guys for having me again.

Speaker 1 (08:35):
Great great luck with your career. And I don't think
you need a look. I think you already have kind
of paved your way for where you're going, and we appreciate.

Speaker 2 (08:43):
The long road ahead to keep paving.

Speaker 1 (08:46):
Thank you very much, West Anderson. Everybody
