Oh? My, I don't know. Maybe that I'm from California.
I think people always think I'm from Texas. I have
a jewelry company. That's cool. People not. I don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
You're a surfer. You like to surf?
Speaker 1 (01:02):
Yeah? Yeah, I grew up southern California. Surfing every day
before school and after school and as many days as
I could skip school and grow up playing bars with
my brother and my dad out there play since I
was twelve. Got a record contract when I was around
twenty five.
Speaker 3 (01:18):
Why and so this jewelry? Do you actually make the jewelry?
Speaker 1 (01:23):
Oh? Yeah, yeah we have. I have three diamond setting
benches upstairs. We cast the silver and the gold in
the garage. We make our own like high end cat stuff,
so you know, like high end engagement rings and things
like that, all the way down to handcarved skulls. And
we only work in like eighteen care of gold and
sterling silver. And you know, we probably put out one
(01:44):
hundred hundred and fifty pieces a month.
Speaker 3 (01:45):
Oh that's fantastic shopping now.
Speaker 2 (01:48):
Yeah, I'm gonna say, do you have a website? Yes,
I'm on it.
Speaker 3 (01:52):
It is jewelry Gary. Oh my goodness, that is so incredible.
So what have you been working on and what are
you up to and what are we going to see
that's new coming to huntingdon.
Speaker 1 (02:05):
Well, you know what, I've been writing a ton I'm
making a new record with you know who, Franklydell is.
He's married Leanne Wolmack that he I think he did
Miranda's last record, and he's done a handful of artists. Yeah,
but he was He was the original guy that signed
me to Deck of Records back in nineteen ninety five.
He was the A and R department And anyway, I
just thought, who I think it would be really fun
(02:25):
to make a record with, And he's the one I
came up with. So I've been talking to him. I've
probably written twenty or thirty songs in the last probably
six seven months. That's all I've really been doing. Oh
but yeah, getting ready to go in and bang out
a record that everybody loves.
Speaker 3 (02:38):
Oh, that's so exciting.
Speaker 1 (02:40):
It is, it is. I'm pumped up, really excit for
you guys to hear some of the new stuff I've
been writing. I was going to say, my writing appointment
canceled for today and the older I get if anything cancels,
I'm stoked.
Speaker 2 (02:50):
Yeah, yeah, that thing, man, as you get older, cancelation.
Speaker 1 (02:57):
I do. I love it. You can't fell me anything.
That's great. I just got the day back right.
Speaker 3 (03:02):
It makes my day better.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
Gary.
Speaker 1 (03:04):
Do you have a dog, by the way, I have, Yes,
I have a dog, and then my wife has a dog,
so I have two dogs in the house, and my
daughter that works here every day has a dog, so
she's her dog's here, and my nephew's just one on vacation.
He gave me his dog. I have five dogs in
my house right Oh?
Speaker 3 (03:19):
I love that hell? And do any of them have
an Instagram page?
Speaker 1 (03:24):
Now? I guess the dog that used to travel with me, Lucy,
had one, but she passed away not too long ago,
and I don't really have a dog that travels, so
we don't really don't really run an Insta form. I guess.
Speaker 3 (03:33):
I gotta tell you, I would totally follow it. And
my dogs are on Insta right now, and they follow
all of them.
Speaker 1 (03:40):
Couldn't live without dogs.
Speaker 3 (03:42):
Oh, dido?
Speaker 2 (03:43):
Have you ever tried to walk all of them at
the same time.
Speaker 1 (03:46):
Gary, No, we're literally taking them for walks. I having
pretty big properly. I live on a lake, and yeah,
my kids always say my house is like Cheffy Cheese
for dogs.
Speaker 3 (03:55):
Oh awesome.
Speaker 2 (03:58):
So when you're not playing music, what do you like
to do?
Speaker 1 (04:01):
I'm usually playing in the water. I like I said,
I grew up surfing, so now I live on a lake.
We usually wake surf for you know, pattle boarder. I
have kayaks out there. Jet skis nice. Oil. Yeah. I
love to play in the water. That's my and if
it's too cold, I usually leave them. In the winter,
(04:22):
I go down to Bahamas or Costa Rica or someplace
where there's there you go.
Speaker 3 (04:26):
That's perfect, great idea. By the way, these on the website,
on your Gary Allen jewelry website. I'm looking at these.
I think it's dematoid garnet and diamond ear rings.
Speaker 1 (04:36):
Uh huh.
Speaker 3 (04:37):
Those things are absolutely brilliantly gorgeous and they look like Marshalls.
Speaker 2 (04:42):
I heard color.
Speaker 3 (04:43):
Yeah, so Huntington is a college town for the Marshall
thundering herd. And I gotta tell you that's the perfect
green color for Marshall. I want them so much.
Speaker 1 (04:52):
Dames, that's awesome.
Speaker 3 (04:54):
This is so cool. I did not know you sold
jewelry too. You made jewelry.
Speaker 1 (04:58):
Yeah, that's very cool. There you go. That was a
good question. So years ago, when I was switching labels,
my manager had called me and he said, you have
to completely go dark. Nobody can know you're writing. You
can't be doing anything. And I said, I've always wanted
to be a jeweler, so I went to the jewelers.
I did learn how to do Yeah, I went to
a bench school and then yeah, I bought just everything
(05:20):
to have a production company. And yeah, that was like
ten fifteen years ago.
Speaker 3 (05:25):
That is so cool. What a different thing to do.
I love it.
Speaker 2 (05:28):
Tell us about your phone. What's the app you use
the most right now?
Speaker 1 (05:34):
Really an app? Guy, I would have to say, like ponos. Okay, yeah,
I guess Instagram, if it's a social media thing is.
But I don't really do that stuff. I don't have
a I don't do my own Facebook. I do my
own Instagram. That makes my face hurt.
Speaker 3 (05:52):
Well, I understand it's okay to stay away from that
kind of stuff, especially when you're living on the lake
and you've got tons of stuff to do. I mean,
I don't blame you.
Speaker 1 (06:00):
Yeah, we're happy over here. I try not to mess
that up.
Speaker 2 (06:04):
What about tattoos. I know you've got tattoos. Do you
have a favorite?
Speaker 1 (06:08):
I have a favorite tattoo artist EJ. Tamby. He's won
Ink Masters a couple of times. He won the Masters,
who won Return of the Masters, who won Battle of shops,
and I think he's a judge on there now, but
he's a good friend. He opened up a shop out
here in Nashville called Branded Tattoo, And why I was
setting it up, he was staying in my house. So
I ended up with a ton of tattoos sitting in money.
(06:31):
Eventually I had to say, you can't write on me
just because you're here.
Speaker 2 (06:36):
I feel like I got a lot of practice in
on you. Gary.
Speaker 1 (06:38):
Yeah, for sure, I'm for sure. You love it so good?
Speaker 2 (06:42):
All right, it is the Rootless Tour twenty five years,
the Hard Way. We're looking forward to having you here
in Huntington. Back in Huntington the Martial Health Network Arena,
October nineteenth. Got to be a lot of fun, Gary.
Speaker 1 (06:54):
Fpe to come out there, see you guys there.
Speaker 2 (06:56):
All right, thanks so much.
Speaker 1 (06:58):
He got
