Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is dumber in the den with dangerous day. So
what terrifies you the most during this spooky season, A
masked intruder, the price of groceries. Chapman University conducted an
annual poll of life fears everyday Americans have that top
the list. Corrupt government officials tops the lists. Believe it
or not, sixty nine percent of people said they're afraid
(00:21):
or very afraid of that. It doesn't matter who's in power.
That was number one last year as well. So what
are the top ten fears that we have in real life?
Number two was becoming seriously ill at fifty nine percent,
or somebody you love becoming ill, economic financial collapse at
fifty eight percent, cyber terrorism at fifty six percent, people
you love dying at fifty five percent, us being involved
(00:44):
in a world war it's number six, Number seven, drinking water,
Russia using nuclear weapons at eight. Pollution of oceans, rivers
and lakes at number nine, a number ten government tracking
personal data also making the list of fears. Number seventeen
was AI twenty five I was the fear of a
new pandemic, forty three of sharks. Fifty four was legal immigration.
(01:06):
Number sixty four fear of flying number sixty seven homeless people.
Twelve percent of people said they're afraid of that. What
are you afraid of? You know? Less than one percent
of our fears come true. That's what I was afraid of.
Deeper in the two. So when was the last time
you saw a ghost? I'm not talking about the twelve
year old down the street who uses the same lazy
(01:26):
white sheet for a cross doom trick or treating every year.
And a new poll, sixty percent of Americans said they've
seen at least one of thirteen paranormal experiences. That's a
lot because we're not all K pop demon hunters, right.
Thirty five percent said they've felt the presence of an
unknown energy. Thirty two percent have smelled an unexplained odor. Sorry,
(01:47):
that was me, I had the chili. Thirty one percent
have heard unexplained sounds or music, twenty six percent I've
heard voices of somebody that wasn't there, Twenty six percent
felt unexplained changes in temperature, and twenty three percent have
seen lights or other devices turn on and off without explanation.
Eighteen percent of seen orbs of light, seventeen percent seeing
objects move, sixteen percent seen a spirit or ghost. Sixteen
(02:10):
percent have seen an door open or close without explanation,
ten percent of seen an angel, nine percent of seen
unexplained smoke, and seven percent claim they've seen it demon.
Men more likely than women to say the paranormal event
has a scientific explanation, even though they're not sure what
the rationale would be. Forty percent of Americans believe in demons, ghosts,
and psychics, just six percent believe in vampires and werewolves.
(02:34):
Ten percent believe they can be psychically see events in
the future, and nine percent can psychically see stuff in
the past, and seven percent can see stuff currently that
they're not physically present for yes it's called TV. Seven
percent claim that they can communicate with the dead, and
sixteen percent of Americans claim they've seen a ghost. Most
(02:54):
people say they were good ghosts thirty one percent good,
eight percent evil, twenty four percent neutral, and twenty one
percent a mix of good or bad. And this might
go without saying. People who have lived in a house
they believed was haunted had more experiences of paranormal events.
Of course, if the house is haunted. I did live
in a haunted house once, and there was all kinds
(03:14):
of crazy stuff going on. Blinds would move, cupboards would open,
lid to the garbage can would start swinging, doors would
open without explanation, things would get knocked over, music boxes
would play. That was all kinds of crazy stuff. We
moved out of that house, and then it was kind
of lonely because I think somebody was trying to talk
to us. The good thing is our building is haunted
(03:36):
here where our radio station is, so that's always fun
when you get a light to turn on and off
or a door to close when nobody else is here
at four o'clock in the morning but me, it's yeah,
it's certainly a lot of fun. I just wish the
guy would pull his weight around here, you know, clean
the bathroom, do something to me. They can't. For another
