Marcus James Henderson.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Good morning, good morning, good morning, good morning to the
box in.
Speaker 1 (00:10):
Uh fantastic. So where are you at today, Marcus? Are
you on the road?
Speaker 2 (00:15):
Not on the road today? Sticking at the house. The
Pasha loved it.
Speaker 1 (00:20):
Okay. So you joined the Marshall Tucker Band in two
thousand and eight, so we're approaching the twenty year mark
here pretty quick. Why did you join the Marshall Tucker Band.
Speaker 2 (00:31):
I needed beer money. They called me up and has
did it? Come over and play a little bit. I said,
let's let's do it.
Speaker 1 (00:38):
So you play multiple instruments, keyboard, saxophone, flute, you also
do vocals. Is their instrument that you prefer.
Speaker 2 (00:47):
To play the one that pays the most? No? I
Actually I'm a man about job security. So I mean
you're talking to a career one player and it's it's
since when you got in your hand. It's going on.
Speaker 1 (01:00):
I'm about fantastic. So you tour all over the world.
Is there a specific spot that you've gone to that
you're like, oh, man, I have to go back here.
Speaker 2 (01:11):
You know, there's there's so many of them. I mean,
I just like being in where I'm at and understanding
the area of every place I go. So I'll say
all of them.
Speaker 1 (01:21):
How's that fantastic? So what is your favorite part about
performing live?
Speaker 2 (01:28):
The connection to the audience and people who who have
come to get behind us and listen. That's that's the
most important for me.
Speaker 1 (01:38):
So how many tour dates do you guys do over
a year?
Speaker 2 (01:42):
Now, we'll do between one hundred and one hundred and twenty.
Speaker 1 (01:46):
That's a lot. That's still a lot. So about every
three days, you guys are somewhere on the road.
Speaker 2 (01:52):
That's right, i'day, yeah, we're out moving.
Speaker 1 (01:55):
So fantastic. So let's talk about the name Marshall Tucker band.
Marshall Talk. Bucker was never in the band, was he?
Speaker 2 (02:03):
Oh no, no, no, he was not.
Speaker 1 (02:06):
He was a blind piano player tuner. They found his
name inscribed on a key at the original I think
rehearsal space. Is that where the name came from?
Speaker 2 (02:16):
That's absolutely correct, fantastic. Marshall Tucker had rented the space
before they went in to practice in it, and his
name was They needed the name for the band and
it was on the key chain.
Speaker 1 (02:27):
So what is if you did not tour, you were
not a musician, for you, what would be the ideal job?
What career path would you like to have if you
were not a musician?
Speaker 2 (02:43):
Oh, I guess a politician. I've done it my whole life.
I've never given it another thought, So I'm not sure
what I would do. Maybe a paint.
Speaker 1 (02:57):
So still still an artist of another kind though, So
if you're gonna pay oh, painting houses. Oh, I think
I might have lost you. Marcus. Are you there? Hello? Marcus,
are you there? I hope you're there. I might have
lost you for a second. There, Marcus, we're talking to
(03:18):
Marcus from Marshall Tucker Band. Are you there?
Speaker 2 (03:21):
I'm here.
Speaker 1 (03:21):
Ah, we got you back. Fantastic. So stand with one
foot in the air and one arm sticking straight out
to the left. That way your phone will still get
good reception.
Speaker 2 (03:30):
So I think I think it was. I just had
to heard it run through the front yard. It was strange.
Maybe that was it.
Speaker 1 (03:37):
Oh, maybe they're maybe they know something. Maybe we need
need to get down to the storm sheheller storm cellar
or something like that.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
So so, of.
Speaker 1 (03:48):
Course, Marshall Tucker Band, you're touring with Bachman Turner Overdrive
in Jefferson's Starship coming to Shields Arena and Fargo on
the twentieth. Have you gone on a lot of tour
dates with these two bands?
Speaker 2 (04:00):
Uh? Akin Turner, No now, Jefferson Starship. Absolutely love those
guys then incredible, incredible act. Everybody's going to be thrilled
by this. I mean, those guys are tight, and I'm
really I've met Backman before and he's a really nice guy,
but I'm anxious to work with him musically.
Speaker 1 (04:20):
So what can people expect on Sunday the twentieth for
the show from the Marshall Tucker Band. Are you going
to play all the favorites? Do you have any new
stuff that you're gonna sprinkle in?
Speaker 2 (04:33):
Not gonna be any new things, but there's gonna be
some old things that people have asked for for years
and years. We've we've worked up and we're gonna throw
some of that into set. So I would say from us,
expect a lot of music.
Speaker 1 (04:44):
So who did you grow up listening to? Who was
your bigger, biggest musical influence as you grew up?
Speaker 2 (04:51):
Oh wow, Well that would be more like David Sandborn,
you know, sex players? Oh yeah, I mean I was,
I was, you know, horn guy. So I was listening
to Tom Scott and h groover Washington. A lot of
just SATs players.
Speaker 1 (05:08):
Yeah, sad. I think David Sanborn just passed last year,
I believe, I think yeah. And he he used to
pop up on with the David Letterman Show all the time,
and I always used to love to watch him when
he was on there. A big fan myself as well.
So great sound if if there's is there any instruments
you don't play? Uh, you don't play the obo.
Speaker 2 (05:34):
Know I can't get that double read thing together. But
I don't do that. I don't do that. I don't
do the obo.
Speaker 1 (05:39):
So uh, two more questions for you. First of all,
what is your favorite movie of all time? Uh?
Speaker 2 (05:47):
Being There?

what is your favorite food when you're on the road, Tie?
Speaker 2 (05:58):
If I can find it.
Speaker 1 (06:00):
If you can find it, sometimes it fits tough to
find really good tie. Do you like the stuff that
is so spicy it makes your eyes water and your
nose run?
