New Words & No Pets

Merriam-Webster has a list of 200 new words and phrases added to their dictionary. Dangerous Dave talks about some of the words including touch grass and nepo baby. Plus, the main reasons people don't have pets.

This is deeper in the den with dangerous deed. Miriam
Webster added two hundred new words and terms. This is
to their online dictionary. Some you know, some you might not.
Here's some of the highlights. Here things they've added touch
grass to participate in normal activities in the world world
nepple baby a person who gains opportunities through family connections.

Beach read, light reading, true crime made the list. Of course,
a nonfiction genre of literature, film, podcasts and shows. Creepy
Crawley added to the dictionary. We've set it for years,
but it's now been added. Slang term for bugs maga streetcorn,
which is grilled corn, snog British slag for making out,

jam band, dudgeon, crawler, ultra processed of course, ultra processed food,
of course, shadow band which somebody hides content from other people.
Also making the list Miriam Webster's two hundred new words
fyp or for your page, social media feed for personalized
content based on your interests. Some of the other things
added last year, of course, riz mid, George, Gramble, quiet, rage, rage, quit,

and girl boss all making the list last year. So yeah,
that dictionary is getting pretty thick, deeper in the two
adult only households constantly dealing with two questions, their parents
asking them if they're going to have kids, and their
friends asking are you going to have any pets? A
comprehensive worldwide survey talked to nearly sixty thousand people in
twenty different countries and asked if they were pet parents

to dogs or cats. Overall, fifty six percent of people
have cats or dogs. Cat ownership more common than dog
ownership globally. Significantly more men fifty two percent versus forty
eight percent of women own cats. Globally. The most popular
breeds of dogs are Labrador, Chihuahua, Golden Retriever. Most popular
cats Persian British short hair and Siamese. Two main reasons

people do not have dogs unsuitable living conditions like not
having enough space for outdoor areas, and significant time commitment requirements.
Reasons people don't have cats they don't want their furniture damaged,
or they're allergic to them. Generally, not being around enough
is a concern. Thirty two percent of pet owners said
they feel guilty by leaving their dogs and cats alone.

Some people wish it was easier to have pets where
they live. Only forty two percent of pet parents said
their neighborhoods were really that pet friendly. That said, though
out of all the countries ranked, the US did rank
