Hey y'all, it's Denise's podcast. Well, hi there, Happy Friday.

Speaker 1 (00:08):
I'm excited for my guest today, Drew Baldridge. What an
amazing story he has to share with us. He has
a hit country song soon to be number one country song,
and he wasn't even signed by a major label when
we started playing it on country radio. That's unheard of.
This is like history and the making. Plus he shares

(00:31):
about the song, why he wrote it, and the video.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
Is so beautiful. You have to see it.

Speaker 1 (00:37):
It's on all of my social media if you want
to see the video at Denise Plant, Denver. He'll describe
what the video is all about and how it ties
into his song too. But first, before we get to
the interview, of course, update on pop culture. It's Denise's Dirt.
It all kicks off with some shocking news.

Speaker 2 (00:55):
Your disease is just outside just in war arm push ups.

Speaker 3 (00:58):
This waiting, just waiting.

Speaker 1 (01:00):
There's been five arrests in Matthew Perry's death. Matthew Perry
passed October twenty eighth of last year. He was found
floating face down in his hot tub. The report from
the autopsy said he passed away to acute effects of ketamine.
Multiple arrests have finally been made. Two doctors, as a
matter of fact, a personal assistant, and two others all

(01:24):
charged with providing the ketamine that led to his death.
Prosecutors are saying that Perry's assistant and an acquaintance got
their hands on a large amount of ketamine worth tens
of thousands of dollars, and of course they did it
with the help of a drug dealer. Allegedly, he paid
over fifty five thousand dollars for the ketamine. His family

(01:45):
issued a statement following the news of the arrests. They said,
we were and still are heartbroken by Matthew's death, but
it has helped to know law enforcement has taken his
case very seriously. We look forward to justice taking its call.
Let's move on to some good news.

Speaker 3 (02:02):
What's going on Nashville, what's going on?

Speaker 2 (02:04):
Post malone? Boy?

Speaker 1 (02:06):
What a night at the Grand Old Opry August fourteenth.
He made his debut with a few friends, Vince gill
Landy Wilson on Michael Montgomery, the War Entreaty, and even
Brad Paisley.

Speaker 2 (02:18):
It was an amazing night for him.

Speaker 1 (02:22):
There's been rumors about Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars teaming up,
and finally it's official.

Speaker 2 (02:28):
They dropped a song called die with a Smile.

Speaker 3 (02:30):
Buys love My House. It's so beautiful.

Speaker 1 (02:33):
The upcoming Britney Spears biopic, well, it's gonna be extra authentic.

Speaker 2 (02:37):
There's at least a chance of it.

Speaker 1 (02:39):
The new owner of her childhood home is inviting Universal
Pictures to film on location. They're going to go back
to Britney spears old home in Kentwood, Louisiana, where she
grew up. He was like, well, what if you just
give me like five thousand dollars and then I'll just
give you the recipe and then you can just be
on your way with it. It's been several years now,

(03:00):
but Came Brown tasted a secret sauce that was made
by Guy Fieri, and wow, it made him want to
go into the barbecue sauce business. So now you can
taste Flavortown x Caine Brown Tennessee style barbecue sauce. It's
on his merch site. You can check it out on
Amazon here. And finally, a piece of the horror movie

(03:22):
classic Poultergeys can be yours. The home where Steven Spielberg
filmed the classic horror flick is on the market forcel
just outside of Los Angeles. It's a sixteen thousand square
foot lot, four bedrooms, two and a half baths, large
swimming pool and jacuzzi.

Speaker 2 (03:40):
And if you're able to.

Speaker 1 (03:41):
Scare up the one point one seven four million dollar
asking price, you'll be living in an iconic haunted house.
But the current owners say, yeah, it's not actually haunted.
Now let's get to it. The man who's making history himself,
Drew Baldridge.

Speaker 3 (03:59):
Hey, Deny, Hi, Drew, how are you? I'm great? How
are you doing well?

Speaker 2 (04:04):
I am doing wonderful, but not as good as you are.

Speaker 1 (04:07):
Let me just give you that big old golf clap here,
because congratulations.

Speaker 3 (04:11):
You're a song.

Speaker 2 (04:13):
This is like a historic story.

Speaker 3 (04:15):
Oh man, well, thank you so much. It's been a
crazy year and just you know, try and trying to
fight and get this song up to number one. It's
been our goal all along. And to think, man, we're
right there, we're knocking on number one's door. It's crazy.

Speaker 1 (04:28):
Song gives me goosebumps. But the story, would you mind?
I'd love for them to hear it out of your mouth?
How this this happened because you were not signed to
a label at all.

Speaker 3 (04:38):
No, So twenty sixteen to twenty nineteen had a record
deal and it was awesome, you know. I was on
tour with some of the biggest artists. And twenty nineteen
comes in the label I'm on Closes and I'm thinking, well, shoot,
I'm going to get another record deal. I have a
big hit. Everybody's gonna want to sign us. Blah blah blah.
Well then that just doesn't happen. We don't get signed.

(04:59):
COVID happens, and then twenty twenty one comes to me
and my wife get married. I have this song called
She's Somebody's Daughter. I make a special version just so
she can dance to it with her dad at our wedding,
and that's the wedding version. And that's that's the version
that you hear on the music video. If you watch
the music video, it's actually our wedding. And I just

(05:19):
made it just so she could dance to it with
her dad, and she did, and we went on our honeymoon.
I posted this TikTok on our honeymoon. I think I said, hey,
if this gets five thousand likes, we'll put it out
on Friday. It was a Wednesday night and I post
this song. I wake up the next morning and it
has almost ten million views on it and I am

(05:41):
blown away. I can't believe it. I think again, every
record company's going to be calling, this is amazing, this
is awesome, and that's just wasn't our story. Nobody really called,
and if they did, they weren't super excited. And so
last year I just did something crazy. I decided, you
know what, I don't want to look back in thirty
years and say I didn't I try with one of

(06:01):
my favorite songs I've ever wrote. I was watching people
react to it on TikTok with over you know, I think,
now we're up to a billion views and impressions on TikTok.
I was like, you know what, I'm gonna create my
own record label and send this song country radio all
by myself. And that's what I did. I hired my
own staff and we send it to radio, and now
here we are a year later talking about a number

(06:24):
one song. I can't believe it. To these My goal
was when people asked, well, as your god, I was like,
man if I could be top forty. I've never been
top forty, and now here we are talking number one.
It's crazy.

Speaker 1 (06:34):
Not only that, think about one billion, one billion streams.
Create your own record label and you name it after
your son.

Speaker 3 (06:45):
Yeah, I know. I just really can't believe a billion
people have heard this song, heard this message. And that's
one reason why I fought for this song so much.
Is the message is so powerful, you know, And it's
about my wife. It's about treating women right, knowing they're
worth and to know that now not only social media,
but millions and millions of people around the country because
of country radio, are hearing this message. And I think

(07:08):
that's so important for us in country music. We need
this message. And I'm so glad that I got to
be the person to bring in somebody who's telling me
the other day they're like, man, do you know if
you go number one, you'll be the first artist in
the history of country music to go get their first
number one without a label, fully independent by yourself. And
that's mind blowing.

Speaker 1 (07:26):
And going back to what you said, she's somebody's daughter.
It's about treating women right and knowing their worth. I
want to thank you for writing that song. I'm lucky
enough to be married to a man that does exactly
that and has taught our two boys, now young men,
how to treat a woman like a lady but also
support her wants, support her dreams, and be her partner

(07:49):
in life. She's somebody's daughter. You can follow him on
any social media platform at Drew Baldridge Music and I
hope the next thing is a movie about this song
hitting number one and how it started.

Speaker 3 (08:02):
That would be absolutely insane. Maybe one day, who would
you have play you? Oh goodness, I have no idea.
Who who could? I don't know. We need somebody that
can at least sing a little bit too, I don't know.
I gotta think of that. Give me some time to
think on that.

Speaker 1 (08:17):
Okay, well, I'll talk to you again with your next
number one, so.

Speaker 3 (08:20):
You be next time perfect.

Speaker 1 (08:23):
I got you, Denise, Thank you, Take care, God, bless
and congratulations, blessed.

Speaker 3 (08:27):
Thank you,

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
