My shirt says one year equals three hundred and sixty
five opportunities.

Speaker 2 (00:31):
Alway, isn't that optimistic? I am a very.

Speaker 1 (00:33):

and it makes our life a lot easier. Before we
get into all natural flea and tick remedies, I need
a Charlie update because last week Charlie went through some
sort of vomiting diarrhea episode for like two weeks.

Speaker 2 (01:28):
If you're worried about commiting and diarrhea.

Speaker 1 (01:31):
Check out bet past episodes for what she did to
fix it, because it was on point.

Speaker 2 (01:35):
Last we left off, he.

Speaker 1 (01:37):
Was still eating a rice chicken and then you had
started him slowly on onlike his fresh pet or food whatever.

Speaker 2 (01:44):
Okay, So so here's the latest update. My nonvetvet friend
told me there's so many veterarians out there, like she's horrible,
stop her from talking. But whatever, we're non veterinarians. We're
not claiming to be.

Speaker 3 (01:59):
We're not groomed, we're not anything where these two crazy
dog ladies.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
Exactly with a lot of damn knowledge. Yes, so.

Speaker 3 (02:09):
I had given him kibble during his diarrhea episode.

Speaker 1 (02:13):
And she cos a diarrhea. So would you give me
like a give him just a couple of kibbles.

Speaker 3 (02:17):
And then he that was when he started kind of
like vomiting, and.

Speaker 2 (02:20):
She's like, no, don't do that. So she told me.

Speaker 3 (02:24):
Corney told me that when you start reintroducing your dog's kibble,
you need to do it slowly and to like grind
it up into little like almost dust and soak.

Speaker 2 (02:37):
I mean you could soak it too, if that helps.

Speaker 1 (02:39):
I just I don't know because I'm not a venary,
but I just know from past experience with my dog.
Once they've been on like a bland diet and their
tummy's all settled, and then you throw in a hard
piece of kibble, it's like they got to work extra
to get it, like digest it, and that can cause
more problems.

Speaker 2 (02:55):
So just start slow.

Speaker 3 (02:56):
So I have my little Ninja, so I I would
like a little ninja. I put some of the kibble
in the ninja and I kind of pulverized it, and
I've been sprinkling it on his fresh pat and a
little bit of rice.

Speaker 2 (03:09):
I stopped the egg whites because I couldn't take it
any Are you still adding water though? I am stilliding water.
We have to make sure he stays hydrated.

Speaker 3 (03:16):
That's important and he's been doing great, so we're we're
moving in the right direction. He's still he's having good
poos and he's doing great right now.

Speaker 2 (03:23):
So yeah, yeay, go Charlie, Go Charlie, go Charlie. All right,
So I want to talk about flea and tick meds. Yes, Okay.

Speaker 1 (03:35):
Back in the day when I wasn't a crazy dog mom,
I was giving my dog next guard, and I'm sorry,
next guard, but it.

Speaker 2 (03:44):
Caused a host of problems with my dog. It shirt,
he gets a next guard, he's dragging his butt, he's
chewing his paws, he looks like he's having seizures. Stop
the madness.

Speaker 1 (03:53):
At some point I had to do all my research
when you're giving an oral a fleeing tick medication and
you're basically putting pesticides in your dog's body, so when
those other little fleas and tics get on them and
take one bite, they die.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
Crack.

Speaker 1 (04:08):
To me, I was like, what, I also have a
problem with the collars, and I forget the names of
these collars.

Speaker 2 (04:14):
So I stopped the.

Speaker 1 (04:15):
Next guard and I thought, well, I'll put on everybody
wears those calls simperica.

Speaker 2 (04:19):
Is that what it's called.

Speaker 1 (04:21):
So I looked it up and you put the collar on.
But if you look at what it says, it says.

Speaker 2 (04:28):
Do not touch the collar, do not rub the collar,
do not let pregnant women or children touch the collar.
What what are you talking about.

Speaker 1 (04:37):
I'm all up at my dog's business twenty four to
seven and now I can't touch him because he has
his collar on. If you if you're putting this collar
on with the chemicals and not reading, I'm sorry, start reading,
because if you're pregnant or you have children, they shouldn't
be touching your dog or touching the collar.

Speaker 3 (04:52):
And that's the same thing with the topical ones that
you put down.

Speaker 2 (04:57):
Yeah, it's the same thing.

Speaker 3 (04:58):
You're not that you can't touch it. You can't do
it anything for you know, twenty four to forty eight
hours oily.

Speaker 2 (05:04):
And it's weird. It's weird.

Speaker 1 (05:07):
It's yeah, I don't even know where to start except
for so from there, I was all stressed out. And
this is my dog's eleven, so he was probably two
or three at this point, and I'm like, oh, these chemicals,
I'm gonna try the amber caller, which I'm sorry, I
don't even do. You know, you and I are into crystals.
Amber is a stone they make something for children that
are teething and other things for like baby babies. Well,

(05:30):
they have an amber collar for dogs and it's supposed
to keep fleasing ticks away. And it's like amber stones.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
And I'll tell you what. It looked really good on it.

Speaker 3 (05:38):
I imagine he looked like he looked like such a
boho baby nol.

Speaker 2 (05:43):
I loved it. It did nothing. He had. Tix Galore
never flees but ticks.

Speaker 3 (05:48):
So can we back up at tixs Galore? Yes, I
know I've seen it on news feeds.

Speaker 2 (05:55):
I've heard people talking about it.

Speaker 1 (05:56):
This season is this season is epic for tis? What
the hell's going on?

Speaker 3 (06:01):
Okay, So here's my research that I did. I actually
have the article right here, so.

Speaker 2 (06:07):
I wouldn't opportunities.

Speaker 3 (06:14):
So the reason there is an increase in ticks this
year is.

Speaker 2 (06:20):
It the enormous amount of rain we've had. No, okay,
it is the enormous amount of acorns we've had this year.

Speaker 1 (06:28):
Trust me, we've had a lot. I probably raked three
or four wheel barrels of acorns off my lawn and
I have a small lawn.

Speaker 3 (06:37):
Yeah, So it says, what's the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station
is reporting that last fall there was a significant increase
in acorns, and so that has an impact on wildlife
such as rodents and deer. Mice are a common carrier
of lime disease and well known host for ticks.

Speaker 2 (06:55):
Often see that. So what happened is all the you
know list. She just wants to get it right. I
do want to get it right. I don't want to
give you wrong information. You know, you know what here? Okay,
my girlfriend, she's literally the smartest person. I know. That's
pretty scary. It is pretty scary, but like, but you

(07:15):
know what you're talking about. So there's all these acorns.

Speaker 3 (07:18):
So it's bringing all the animals like rabbits, mice. Mice
are the number one really and they're the number one
carrier of lime.

Speaker 2 (07:26):
But wait, mice eat acorns.

Speaker 1 (07:28):
Yeah, okay, so the enormous amount of acorns brings in
a lot more wildlife who are carrying ticks and fleas.

Speaker 2 (07:37):
Correct, and mice are the number one culprit. Yeah, so
that means if you have mice in your house, your
dog could get fleas ticks.

Speaker 3 (07:45):
Without everyone outside exactly, and what they're basically saying now
is and and Courtney will show you her tool that
she uses for ticks, and I do have one too.
You can bring it to your local health department if
you get the tick off and bring it to the
local health department, whether it's whether it's your dog, your kid, yourself,
and they will send it out to be tested to
see if it is carrying. There's two things and one

(08:07):
of them is lying and then the other one.

Speaker 2 (08:08):
Hold on, look at it. It was because it's like
you can look, I don't know what I don't know
what this one is. It is.

Speaker 3 (08:14):
Babe ciosis b A b E s io s I
s any any way you talk it up.

Speaker 2 (08:21):
It doesn't sound good, not a good thing. Sounds bad.
It sounds bad, sounds real bad.

Speaker 3 (08:26):
So that is why this year they're saying, the health
department is saying, is there's been such an increase in ticks.

Speaker 2 (08:35):
And please it's because of all this wildlife that's getting
into our yards.

Speaker 1 (08:39):
Well, which is this is the first year and I
do all natural. My lawn is all I have a
company that does all natural. I don't do any type
of chemicals for weed control, but everything's all natural.

Speaker 2 (08:49):
And this is the first year I had them or maybe.

Speaker 1 (08:52):
Second year for a spray my yard for flea and
tick And it's basically all natural. It's like citronella and
like cinnamon and I can't remember spe but they spray
the yard. So when it was in like high season
the beginning of the summer, I just kept him in
my yard. Got no flazer ticks right for sure. But
I have had to take a couple of ticks off

(09:12):
him this season. Yeah, and only two before I started
a new regimen. And I can't wait to tell you
about it.

Speaker 3 (09:18):
And I know I've learned from people who work outside landscapers,
et cetera.

Speaker 2 (09:23):
They will put.

Speaker 3 (09:26):
Pine sal because it smells lemone and they put it
on their socks and it keeps ticks off of their legs.

Speaker 2 (09:34):
But I wouldn't put that on my dogs. No, my yard.
That's a chemical, right, But the lemon scent is what.

Speaker 3 (09:39):
So sprays lemon, citronella, lemon spray, all natural oils.

Speaker 1 (09:45):
This is the This is the and I think it's
called tick check. You can get I got this on chewy.
It comes in a pack of like four. It also
comes and I'll show the camera, so if you're listening,
make sure you check out YouTube so you can see
the tool.

Speaker 2 (09:58):
But when I bought this on Chewy, I want to
do this ten dollars.

Speaker 1 (10:01):
I got three of them. Came with a little card
so that when you pull off the tick you can
identify what is it a lone star tick? Is it
a brown tick? Is it a deer tick? They all
carry something different. And then also in this little kid
I got came with these little baggies. Like Lauren said,
you can send it to your wherever a health department.
But this company, you can send them the tick for free.

(10:22):
Mail it to them and they will email you if
the tick had lime or anything. So I'm gonna show
it to the camera. It's super easy. It's like a
little spoon.

Speaker 2 (10:29):
It's got a slit in it. You just slide it
right under the tick and lift straight up and it
takes the whole thing out of your dog's you know, skin, easily. Yes,
I have one of those as well. I have it.

Speaker 1 (10:41):
I have it right by my door at my front door.
All right, So what do you do for your dogs
for flee in tich? What is your situation?

Speaker 2 (10:48):
Because I know you were giving prevecto or something weird
had a problem.

Speaker 3 (10:55):
Charlie had a problem with prevecto. He got very sick
from brevecto.

Speaker 2 (10:59):
She called me, He's very sick. He's shaking, he was
throwing off. You do And She's like, I gave him
his prevecto. I'm like, take him to the vet.

Speaker 3 (11:05):
Yeah, and and and he did have a reaction to
the prevecto. So they are currently not on flea and
tick medication because I'm just apprehensive. They don't go down
by the river.

Speaker 2 (11:19):
They don't, you know, their little dogs. I have a
big yard, I know, but you have. I've never seen
more wild life. I do have a lot of wild life.
So I so they're not not even an all natural caller.
They used to do the all natural callers, Yes, okay,
why not anymore? I just I got there's this now.
I can't think of the name of it. I have

(11:40):
it in my medical kit.

Speaker 3 (11:41):
It's I do have if I ever noticed that they
were getting fleas er chicks, I do have the supplies
at home to give them a flee in tick medication.

Speaker 2 (11:51):
I also have.

Speaker 3 (11:53):
It's next Star Next It's you get it at the
pet store, okay, and it's for fleas and you get
one tablet and it will kill all the fleas.

Speaker 2 (12:02):
Well, yeah, but that's a chemical. It is like you
want to make sure you don't get fleas first. I
know what that is. It Actually you're right within twenty
four to forty eight hours.

Speaker 1 (12:11):
But can you imagine, though, if your dog had fleas
you had to give them that pill and it kills
it within twenty four to forty eight hours.

Speaker 2 (12:16):
Right now, that's gonna be horribly. That's gonna be horrible.
I know.

Speaker 3 (12:19):
I do treat my yard with a citronella. It's got
lemon grass, spearmint.

Speaker 2 (12:24):
And I spray the whole yard, well, the whole parameter
of the yard.

Speaker 1 (12:29):
Okay, okay, Well, then let's get into some products because
I definitely have to have products on my dog. I
live near a river and I walk like she doesn't walk.
Your dogs are a little and she's got a huge yard.
I walk my dog two sometimes three times a day,
and I am down by the river. So the first
thing that he wears is this al zoo a flea
and tick collar. But it actually naturally repels ticks, fleas,

(12:51):
and mosquitoes. It smells expeeriment or peppermint. You can get
it on any website. I mean it smells great.

Speaker 2 (12:57):
Yeah, it's very strong, though.

Speaker 1 (12:59):
You have to get out of the packaging and let
it sit on your counter or in your house for
like three days before you put it on your dog
because it is super strong.

Speaker 2 (13:06):
And that was the other one that I've used. I
knew you did. I know. I didn't do this one.
I did the other one. I had two other types
of that type of collar. But I like these because
it makes my dog smell good too. I did not
make my dog smell you know, this one does. This
is like spearmint, peppermint, and lemon grass. It smells great.

Speaker 1 (13:25):
But anyway, it's an all natural flea and tick collar
and you just change it every four months. I do
every two and a half to three just in high season.

Speaker 2 (13:32):
So here it is. You go. Make sure you watch
us on YouTube so you can check it out.

Speaker 1 (13:38):
And then I do have a couple other things up
my slave, and this has been a lifesaver when I
take my dog for a walk, so he's got the
all natural collar. But every time we go for a walk,
I will spray a bandana with this. It's flea and
tick easy spray. It's for your house and your dog.
It's all natural, it's vet's best. And you can spray
your yard with it if you want. You can spray

(13:59):
your couch that I usually give him a quick mist
and I spray a bandana before we go for a walk,
which is cool.

Speaker 2 (14:05):
Yeah, you'll like it, Okay, all right, that's great. And
then this is another one.

Speaker 1 (14:08):
This is really good too, because if fleas and ticks
are gonna be all around your dog's face.

Speaker 2 (14:12):
I bought the same exact thing. This is a spray.
I bought it in wipes. I think the wipes are
super easy to use. Yeah, why not, I don't know.
I have everything. And then if your dog is fleas
you need to have this in your medical kit too.
This is your flea comb. Makes you just make it.
You could be like, my dog, isn't it fleas? How
are you gonna know?

Speaker 1 (14:31):
How will you ever know? Unless your dog is itching
or the fleas are biting you, you're not gonna know.
You can run a little flea comb through them if
you want, just to see. Yeah, usually down the back.

Speaker 2 (14:40):
Or by the base of the tail, and that I'll
show you. But I am super excited by my latest discovery.
And by the way, all of these all natural things
have been working great for my dog.

Speaker 1 (14:54):
Although the beginning of the season, even with his all
natural collar and the spray, I did pull two ticks.

Speaker 2 (15:00):
Off of him. But I decided I would vacuum my dog.
So I have a dog vacuum. It's a groomer slashed vacuum.
So every time he goes for a walk.

Speaker 1 (15:10):
And it's funny if he sees me take the vacuum
out and put it on the kitchen floor, he knows
he's going for a walk.

Speaker 2 (15:15):
But I love here it is here.

Speaker 1 (15:18):
This is my dog vacuum. Well, actually it's a groomer.
It comes with the clippers you clip on the end,
but you can also put a dog brush on it.
Take your dog for a walk, and when he comes
back from his walk, I just like takes thirty seconds
to go over his body, his face's muzzle, his ears,
and he said zero ticks in like two months of
walking him in this tick infested neighborhood.

Speaker 3 (15:37):
I literally called her one morning and I heard this
noise in the background, and I'm like, what are you doing.

Speaker 2 (15:43):
She's like, I'm vacuuming, right dog. I am vacuuming myacum.
My dog because I take him in.

Speaker 1 (15:48):
I try not to go near the river, although I
live on up the street called River Street, so it
doesn't really matter.

Speaker 2 (15:55):
I'm near the damn river right right. But if I
go close to the river, he gets ticks. But ever since,
I've been vacuuming him.

Speaker 1 (16:01):
So if you are like you don't want to put
anything on your dog or spray your dog, grab this
dog vacuum groomer thing and just take him for a
walk and vacuum them after vacuum.

Speaker 2 (16:12):
But it is I love.

Speaker 3 (16:14):
I love this idea of the vacuum because I think
that that is gonna be like, it's gonna get everything off.

Speaker 1 (16:19):
I'm gonna show it to the camera real quick because
it's gonna get everything off. And I will tell you,
even if you're not worried about fleas and ticks, it
takes out the dander, takes out any loose hair.

Speaker 2 (16:28):
My dog doesn't shed. But if your dog sheds and
you just turn this little sucker on and run it
over his body once a day, you'll have no hair
in your house. Yep. And she did groom Gracie with this,
and she looked gorgeous. It worked so well.

Speaker 3 (16:43):
And yes, that was a Really it's really good to
use that because it sucks all the hair in. It
does so you don't have this big furry mass when
you're grooming your dog.

Speaker 1 (16:54):
There's actually a compartment that it sucks the heron right here.
You just pop it off, empty it out in the trash.

Speaker 2 (16:59):
You're good to go. I I love this thing.

Speaker 1 (17:01):
He's had no tics, no nothing since I've been using it,
and I'm going to use it forever on him. In fact,
I might vacuum you today.

Speaker 2 (17:09):
Vacuum me. Why are you vacuuming me? Is it test
it out? Doesn't test it out? Doesn't test it out anyway?
Can we talk about lime real quick? Yes? Have any
of your dogs ever had?

Speaker 3 (17:21):
Line Ollie, before he came to me, had tested positive
for lime.

Speaker 2 (17:26):
And it's funny because most dogs just through like, uh,
just through blood work alone. If they were like getting
their annual blood work, not blood work for lime, right,
show that they've been exposed to lime. He tested positive
for lime.

Speaker 1 (17:42):
He probably didn't test positive. He showed that he'd been
exposed to it. If he had tested positive, she would
have put him on doxy cycling for a month.

Speaker 2 (17:48):
He wasn't with me. Oh, okay, so this is when
he first went to the shelter.

Speaker 1 (17:54):
Okay, so he was on medication. Yeah, I medicated him. Yeah,
he's had line. Yes, Okay, here's the thing about out
it is freaking scary.

Speaker 2 (18:02):
I am sorry. My dog.

Speaker 1 (18:06):
One day didn't get off his dog bed and he
was just walking like a tin soldier. His back and
he was walking very stiff, wasn't interested in food. And
I remember calling Laurence. She's like, he's feeding off of
your energy.

Speaker 2 (18:18):
Because Laura's like, you've had very low energy and you're
not in the right leg zen mode and he's feeding
off you.

Speaker 1 (18:28):
And I was like, okay, no, there's something wrong on
the dog. So then I called my mother. I'm like, mom,
Jack is acting strange. He's walking like a tin soldier.
He doesn't want to get up. It's eleven o'clock, he's
still sleeping.

Speaker 2 (18:37):
My mother said, he's feeding off your energy. Your energy
has been off of Like, what is wrong with these people?
There's something wrong with my damn dog. So day two
or three of this day one, I mean no, no, no,
that I took him to the vat. No. I said,
day one, when you call us on your upset and
day one.

Speaker 3 (18:54):
Of course that's gonna be our initial reaction has been
one day and you're probably staring at him for six hours.

Speaker 2 (18:59):
I believed Lauren and my mother. I'm like, okay, maybe
my energy's off. I'm gonna change my energy, get my
juju going. Day two, he was even worse, so I
rushed him to the emergency VAT. And I should have
known him better because I know my dog.

Speaker 1 (19:11):
I mean, yeah, your dogs do feet off of you,
and you guys weren't there to see it. I guarantee
had I had you come over and saw him, you
would have been like, that's not Jack, take him to
the bat. Lauren and my mother were going off of
just me on the cell on the phone, which is cuckoo.
So anyway, I rushed him to the VAT.

Speaker 2 (19:28):
I'm at the vet's office, by the way, thank god
for my doggy, diaper bag and my medical kid. I
was there for like five hours, okay, sitting on a
floor that was so horrible, hold on back, so sitting

(19:49):
on a floor like this horrible floor.

Speaker 1 (19:51):
I were back, but thankfully I had my bath matt
in the car, so I brought it in and my
dog had a nice, comfortable place to lie down.

Speaker 2 (19:59):
I had my.

Speaker 1 (20:00):
Doggie to go bag, so I had little treats if
he needed it. I had a bottle of water, had
everything we need.

Speaker 2 (20:06):
They tell me, your dog's very ill. He might be
have cancer. They did blood work, full panel of blood
where his liver numbers are off. I go, of course
he is. You guys have over vaccinated him since he
was freaking wand but whatever. So they look at me like,
we don't know. I go, did you test him for
a lime? They're like, why would we do that? I go,

(20:26):
why wouldn't you test my dog for I.

Speaker 1 (20:28):
Don't know what made me think, please test my dog
for lime? Thank god I thought of it because they
tested him. They're like, thank god they had enough blood
left over from the five hours of blood work they
were doing. They tested him for lime, and three minutes
came back and say, yeah, your dog is lime.

Speaker 2 (20:44):
Not only did he have lime, but he.

Speaker 1 (20:45):
Had something called euryclia, which is another type of lime,
So he had two different types of lime.

Speaker 2 (20:53):
Yeah, it's a very serious, serious illness. I can't even
tell you. I felt so bad for this dog. Anyway,
it's a and the the medication is easy. It was
doxy cyclane, which people take.

Speaker 1 (21:06):
Yep, it's like an antibiotic, right, and it was prescribed
I want to say, for twenty eight days, twenty eight
thirty days, and it's like I can't remember, it's one
or two pills a day. But anyway, within twenty four
to forty eight hours he was back to normal. Yeah,
he was back to normal. But lime can flare up
once they get it. It can flare up anytime. So

(21:26):
you know, years down the road you might see your
dog acting the same as they did when they were diagnosed.
Just no, it's probably lime. They'll go and they'll test them.
But can you believe that this VEC clinic and it's
not my normal VET clinic. I was actually out of town.
I was in Florida at the time. And maybe they
don't have lime in Florida, I don't know, but one
thousand dollars worth of blood work and they never tested
for lime until I asked him to.

Speaker 2 (21:47):
I know, and ridiculous.

Speaker 3 (21:51):
It is ridiculous, And I think here they would probably
test for lime first, Yeah, just because we have so
many well verses of lime.

Speaker 1 (21:59):
Lime came from line I'm Conneticut. Yeah, so yeah, they
didn't test for lime. But anyway, he had two different
types of lime.

Speaker 2 (22:05):
Yeah, so frightening. And just another quick reminder. You may
think your dog or your dog has lime.

Speaker 1 (22:12):
Your dog can get bit by the tick and not
show any symptoms from like two to six months. It's
like a long stretch. They don't show symptoms the day
after they get bit by a tick. It's anywhere between
two and like six months.

Speaker 3 (22:24):
Right, And I think that's the importance of getting those
ticks off as quickly as possible because in the article
of my research it said it takes up to twenty
four hours for the toxins to get into their bloodstream.
So the sooner you find that tick and get it
off of them, the less likely they will be to
contract any type of lime.

Speaker 2 (22:43):
Yeah, okay, Well to recap. If you want to do
all natural, we're we're all natural. Laura's a little more
all natural than I am. She's like a nothing. She's like,
I don't do anything unless they need it. I do,

don't want to talk about that, but I'm talking about
flea and ticks. You're all natural. She's like, I'm all natural,

(23:05):
don't do anything. I don't really know, okay, and I'd
like to do minimal. So who knows if this is
even working, except for he's good right now. And I
do to treat my yard. I mean, if you want
to be all natural, just look for anything all natural.
Flea and tick spray.

Speaker 1 (23:21):
Vet's best is good. They've got wipes, they've got sprays.
I love the al Zoo all natural flea collar.

Speaker 2 (23:27):
One thing would I do for ticks? I drop my
lawn more blade all the way down. Yes, the hell
out of your lawn. Long grasses is where the ticks
slive and in leaves. Mow your grass down to the dirt.
You don't need a lawn. You need a healthy dog.
That's right, and I have. I have no lawn whatsoever.

Speaker 3 (23:48):
My neighbor keeps. My front yard is fine, but the backyard.
My neighbor's like, you're not gonna have to mow again
until September. And I'm like, good, I don't want to.

Speaker 2 (23:56):
I don't want any fleezer ticks in this yard. And
it's like dirt flying up and I'm good with it.
I love it.
