On Day 1 of Ultra Music Festival, I had the pleasure of sitting down with the “King of Ultra Main Stage”, Hardwell. We chatted about how this would be his 8th time playing on the Ultra Main Stage. We also discussed his return to Ultra after enjoying a 3 and a half year hiatus from touring.

Hardwell disclosed to iHeartMedia that he intended on performing a secret retro Hardwell set at the UMF Radio stage on Friday Night. He was excited to be playing a retro set and was ready to share new music with everyone on the main stage. You can find all of Hardwell's recent releases and his upcoming tours dates at djhardwell.com

(00:33):
I heart radio, and I'm hereat the legendary Hardwell how is it going.
I'm really high. I'm excited backat the Ultra. This is like,
I don't know, man, thisis what I live for. Man,
this whole Miami Music Week. Ilove it back on the Ultra.
So many great faces here and yeah, enjoying live. Brother. Hey,
you know I would consider you maybethe king of Ultra. Oh wow,

(00:54):
that's the biggest compliment. Thank you, thank you so much. Yeah,
that's a big honor. Well,you know, I know it's it's like,
what, maybe at least your eighthtime here least well, yeah,
at least who I actually lost,Come to be honest, I think twelve,
twenty fourteen, fifteen, sixteen, seventeen eighteen, it's gonna be my
eighth time on the main stage. You're right, Yeah, there we go,

(01:17):
And that's a fail being back afteryou know, I know last year
you came back after a little hiatus. Yeah, how was that hiatus for
you, that was great the performerslast year, Like, I was really
happy, But I've never been thatnervous in my life before, like just
going out there having playing for fouryears, only playing new music out there,

(01:37):
you know, the Rebels never liealbum. So it was like a
yeah, like a big stuff forme to come up with, like something
new, new sounds like basically anew hardwell And yeah, it's one of
the best things I've done in mylife. But don't ask me how nervous
I was last year, Like Iwas crazy nervous, and this year,
like I'm way more relaxed, moreconfident and just enjoying life. Brother,

(01:57):
Hey, that's good to hear. That's good to hear. And uh,
I know in that hiatus you tooka little break and you were working on
your record label, Revealed Recordings alittle bit. Yeah, definitely. I'm
really proud to say we have ourown stakes today with Revealed Recording. So
a lot of my Revealed producer andDJA friends are here and the whole Madox
is here, Doctor Farcas, here'ssick individuals. You have Tony Jr.

(02:20):
The new upcoming guys A and gU even Joe goreus they're playing now today,
so yeah and maybe maybe uh there'sthis surprise guest. I don't know
who it is, surprised, butthis is coming out and you know,
like a week or so, it'sokay, he's gonna be on a surprise
set. This guy right here HardWell, you know, I know you've
you've been on a big world tourIf Rebels Never Die. Yeah, that

(02:43):
was amazing, like coming back withthe show and not even the music,
you know, like obviously it wasan album, but then developing the whole
show or your own stage to themaround the world in dead way instead of
playing the festivals. I really enjoyedit. I was so happy to be
back on stage see the fans again. And yeah, that's that's basically where
I live for, you know, like making three the album was like three

(03:05):
years into making and that's just meby myself in the studio, like it
was a complete solo album. Andthen I don't know, like you know
what music. What music makes specialin my opinion is that the moment you
play a song, you create memorieswith your fans, like it feels like
the songs are coming to life. You know. Now if I listened to
one of my songs of my album, or play one of my songs.
I still remember, Oh that onewent off in New York, Oh that

(03:27):
one went off in China or whatever. So like, you create memories with
the music, and I think thatwasn't what's make music so special. One
of my favorite memories of you, honestly last year is you throw a Linking
Park in your set and I lovethat just because you can't hear that anymore,
so it's just I love that youthrow that in there. I'm a
use Linking Park fans, so yeah, I think my fans know that.
But that's It's like sometimes I justlike, I know, like a lot

(03:49):
of other das just use like IDMAcappellas and make matchup. And I always
like to, you know, goa little bit out of the box,
use eminem or Linking Park or justyou know the bands and the rep as
I grew up with. And whatare some of your music influences. It's
a lot, actually I listened to. If it comes to dance music,
I listened to every single genre. Can be a Dad Mouse record, can

(04:10):
be a John Summer's record, itcan be whatever you name. It can
be allotted to do with everything. You know, I listened to every single
genre. But besides that, I'ma really big hip hop guys. I
like, I listened to a lotof hip hop, and if I make
my music, the biggest inspiration,as I just mentioned a like basically the
fans. You know, I makea track in the studio, I play
it out for the first time, and I see the reaction of the people
and the fans, and actually Iuse that reaction to adjust the track a

(04:32):
little bit more and then release itor not. Sometimes I just play something
out and I don't release it becauseI'm not satisfied with the idea I had
or it didn't work out on thedance floor. Okay, okay. And
I know you have a new songwith Timmy Trumpet and Maddox Revolution. Yes,
it's actually number one in the Beatportschart right now mainstage chart. Yes,
really happy with that. And Idid a couple of clips with Medics

(04:55):
already. Actually I'm going to playthe new clap with Madics tomorrow on the
main stage, a new one again. So yeah, and Timmy Trumpet we
did a couple of songs before aswell, and great. It was like
the three of us on one record. It had to be something different,
and I don't know revolution that thattrek works so well in my set.
I'm gonna play it tomorrow as well. I can't wait to hear it.
I can't wait to hear it.And uh, what else you have?

(05:17):
What else you have going on?Any new announcements? Um? Well,
actually, I'm gonna do a lotof festivals. I'm coming back in the
States in May doing a small clubtour, so no big festivals, just
small clubs. I like how intimate, like I used to like how I
used to DJ in the beginning, like twenty twelve, twenty thirteen, when
I started coming to the United States, And I'm coming back to the clubs

(05:38):
where I used to start out asDJ, just to give something back and
do like really intimate shows. Somevenues are like four hundred people, so
it's like it's you know, it'slike crazy intimate. That's really intimate.
I love that. I love that. That's the best feeling as a DJ.
And you could, like definitely, you could definitely relate with the crowd.
Yeah, like it. You canlook defense ride in the eyes that

(05:58):
ride in front of you. That'sthe best feeling when you do club shows.
And don't get me wrong, Ilove playing festivals, but that's like
more like a showcase of what's comingup your new music and make a big
show and big stage and lights andthe whole she bang, you know,
and being a club show is justyou, the music and the fans.
And I love that. Yeah, that's great. Here, I want to
hold you out too much longer. We went through her an Now smiths,

(06:19):
Now, my last question is goingto be what does your artist writer include?
Because I ask all the artists this, and this could be everyone's got
something. Jaffer, the last guyasked, said Uncrustables. Oh yeah,
I have a framed picture of mydog. Now how did they get that?
I see my dog? She hasher own Instagram, and we put

(06:40):
the Instagram link in the in thewriters. So they just took random pictures
from their Instagram and then put itin the dressing room. That's so cute,
you know. And the funniest thingis, you want to know why
it's in the writer. Why ifmy two Minanjo walks into the dressing room
and he sees a framed picture ofmy dog, if they took the effort
to actually print a picture and frame. He knows that everything else is sept

(07:01):
That's absolutely true. Wow wow,not like a fancy superstar thing. I
won't have a frame picture of mydark noticed like a reason behind why it's
there. Oh wow, that's funnyto hear. Hey, Hardball, I
want to thank you for your time. Thank you. And this is Dom
