You're listening to DM Venue, apodcast for all of the DM lovers and
headbangers out there, and this podcastyou will find interviews with your favorite artist.
Here we go. Hey, thisis domb here a wild nine f
(00:29):
five. I heeart media, Iheart radio and I'm here at Jaws.
How's it going today? Good sun'sout, no thunderstorm so far. Knock
on wood, can't complain. Welcomeback to bomb. You were here last
year, I believe, right closingout the wear in the woods. Yes,
Compared to last year, my travelhere was much easier. I don't
know. I made it pretty publicon social media because I almost didn't make
(00:52):
it here. But it took meI think fourteen or like twelve hours something
crazy to get here. I leftit like eight in the more I was
visiting my family in San Francisco. Was supposed to be like, you know,
a super easy flight, and itwas just at that time, well
you know this time last year whenflights were all crazy and it was like
(01:12):
seven flights canceled on me and Iliterally I showed up like I think ten
minutes late for my set there.Luckily it goes all night, so it
wasn't a big deal, but likehere it would have sucked because I got
sixty minutes and that's it. Butthis morning I took one flight NonStop LA
to Nashville, no problems, smoothsailing, and stage looks pretty cool.
(01:36):
Man. That's good to hear. That's good to hear that. Yeah,
this time you got a little easierin Manchester. Yeah, I mean it's
I feel like we still like flightshave chilled out a lot, but as
touring artists, it's like every timea flight even gets delayed, I immediately
think back to when like it wasimpossible to even like we we have one
(02:00):
had to book like two or threeflights in the same day just because you
were planning on one of them canceling, so then you at least had a
backup. It was like, itwas crazy, Wow, that is pretty
crazy to hear. That is prettycrazy. And I also wanted to say
happy Father's Day too. I appreciateit, thank you. And I see
your shirt right there. That's that'sa very nice shirt you got on.
(02:22):
Yeah, my wife gave it tome a couple of days early for Father's
Day and I was like, oh, this is a really cute shirt.
Has I mean, if you're listeningto this and not watching it. It's
a it's kind of like a partybutton up shirt with like flowers and stuff
on it, but my daughter's faceis all over it, like on the
front and the back and everything. It's really cute. She was like,
(02:43):
yeah, you have to wear itat Bonarue because you're not gonna be here
for Father's Day. And I waslike, all right, that makes sense,
so she's technically here even though she'snot. So yeah, you work
with what you got. Yes,Yes, it's very hue Loo. And
I believe the first time I sawyou was Ultra Music Fessel twenty twenty two
when you did it back to backwith Nightmare, and then more recently was
(03:06):
this past Ultra when you did itback to back with Sudden Death. Was
that like Sudden Jaws? That wasthe loudest ninety minutes of my entire life.
Like, I mean, I'm apretty I guess you could say versatile
music producer in DJ. I doyou know, heavier music, I do,
more melodic music, I do housemusic, I do I do everything,
(03:28):
And my sets are normally like thattoo, because I don't really like
doing, you know, just onething for a long time, And I
mean, don't get me wrong, the set with Sudden Death was awesome.
It was so much fun. ButI can't remember the last time I heard
music that aggressive and that loud forninety minutes straight and the crowd went nuts
(03:50):
the whole time. I don't getit. Like if I was out in
that crowd, I would have beenliterally on the floor after like thirty thirty
five minutes. So credit to theultra crowd and the Sudden Death fans because
they they they eat that up forbreakfast, lunch, and dinner. Yeah.
Yeah, Sudden Death is one ofmy previous interviews. Danny's the man,
and I know you threw in aat one point, I think you
(04:12):
threw in a Baby Shark behemoth.Yeah. So the whole time that Danny
and I were working on the set, I kept telling him that I was
going to do so I actually becauselike I did the Baby Shark remix right,
and my wife was like, oh, you should do something funny with
Baby Shark. Would be really funnybecause it's like so not Sudden Death.
And at first I was like that'sdumb, and then like the closer got
(04:35):
to the set, I was like, all right, maybe you'd be pretty
funny. So I actually made likethe first half of it was just like
a rithm like dubstep vip I guessyou could call it that I made basically
pretending like I was sudden death. And then kind of on accident, I
realized that I could like line itup where the like baby Shark vocal and
(04:58):
the Behemoth thing like like aligned, and I was like, Okay, this
is too funny. I have todo it. So like for the last
week before Ultra, I was like, Danny, I'm gonna do this.
I'm gonna do it. I senthim the whole thing, the remix,
that edit, the whole thing, and he never even listened to it because
he thought I was joking, Likehe didn't think it was a real thing.
He thought I sent him like arick roll or something, you know.
(05:21):
And then like five minutes before wego on stage, I was like,
you know, I'm actually playing thisright, and he was like wait
what. So I like played iton my laptop and he was like,
oh wait, this is great. So it was it was really funny.
I Yeah, you know, youdon't get opportunities to do something that's stupid
very often, so I'm glad Itook it. Yeah, that was that
(05:43):
was crazy. And let's talk aboutsome more recent music that you had.
Recently recent song What I Wanted,I know. Yeah, so that song,
I guess, I don't know ifthe timing is gonna work out.
I don't know what when When isthis going up? Probably within the week.
Okay, whatever that works, youguys can be the first to know.
So that was the first single fromand I guess all I'll really say
(06:08):
is that's the first single from analbum that's coming out in the next like
two months. There's another single comingout really soon that I hope gets played
on the radio everywhere because it's actuallylike it's a it's a pretty wink I
heeart. Yeah, it's it's it'svery few and far between that I make
a song that I think would bereally good for dance radio, and this
(06:28):
next one is it. But soWhat I Wanted was the first single,
and this whole album is very housemusic centric, very melodic, so that
was like the first taste and Ijust really liked that song. I've been
doing a lot of house music setslately, my off the Defense sets,
and I've been playing it basically everyset for two years and it always seems
to go well, and it's likethe longer it's out. It's kind of
(06:53):
one of those sleeper records that likeI put it out and it didn't like
go crazy immediately, but every timeI check on like the Spotify, Apple
Music, whatever, it's like it'sgoing farther up the playlists and it's like,
you know, it's it's gaming,it's climbing, and it's I love
records like that. Like, Ithink it's personally cooler to have a record
(07:15):
that like slowly grows and people kindof like get attached to it. Then
something that comes out and it hasthis huge bang and then people forget about
it after two weeks. So I'mI'm super stoked. But there's a lot
more to come, all right, that's good to hear. And you said
new album coming up? Was thatsomething like more made during COVID because I
know a lot of artists, youknow, had a lot of free time.
Um, there's there's a lot Iwant to say, but I won't
(07:40):
because I don't want to give toomuch away. But kind of I guess
that that's not far off, butuh, I don't know. I just
like in the last couple of years, I've just been been writing so much
music and I didn't really know whatto do with it all. And I
finally and this is the same wayI wrote my last album is I just
(08:01):
had so much music laying around thatI finally was able to get, you
know, this cohesive package that like, Okay, all of these records sound
like they're from the same world, right, um, And so yeah,
now now it's the thing and theyall flow, yeah, yeah, yeah,
yeah. You'll see coming soon, coming soon. And how about your
(08:22):
record label by this? So man, this is such a rough time for
me to do an interview because Ihave so many awesome things that I want
to tell you, but we're justa little too early. Well, we
could also see you soon again sometimeprobably, yeah, exactly. Um.
All I'm gonna say as far asthe label goes is this year is the
(08:45):
five year anniversary of Byte This asa record label, so we'll be celebrating
it in a very proper fashion.Sounds good, sounds good. I won't
make you say more. I won'tmake you say more. What about what
should we expect from you tonight foryour set? I mean, it's tough
when I do sixty minutes because Iyou know, like I said, I
(09:07):
make so much different music and Iplay so much different music that when I
played an hour, it's like, how do I play the new stuff and
the old stuff, the stuff thatpeople want to hear, the stuff that
they don't expect to hear. SoI called I kind of call these like
the Jaws power hour, where Ijust try to slam as much stuff as
I can into one little sandwich andhope that it works out. And normally
(09:31):
I end up thinking I have sixtyminutes of music and it's more like eighty
minutes of music. So I won'tlook like it up there, but I'll
probably be freaking out trying to figureout how I'm going to cut records to
get from point A to point B. But I mean, I don't know.
Stage looks awesome, crowd looks rowdy, like should be teed up for
(09:52):
one hell of a night, allright? That sounds good? That sounds
good. And also I just wantto know name and rs you want to
work with? But happen yet?Oh god, this is so hard.
I always say Calvin, I loveCalvin Harris. I'd really love to work
with GARRICKX, and then I feellike I say the same three one every
(10:15):
time I do an interview, butI'm just gonna keep at it and eventually
it'll happen. So it's generally CalvinGarrick's. And then out of left field
is Bring Me to the Horizon, which is like my favorite metal band of
all time. They're not even ametal band anymore. They actually just did
a song with Slander, which Iwas very Yes, yes that was a
good one. Yeah, I waspretty jealous. Not gonna lie, but
(10:37):
yeah, that's that's probably my topthree. All right, all right,
and my last question I asked allthe artists this, what is your artist
writer include? Because this could beall over the place. Last night SCS
nine that closed out the other stageat two o'clock, they had eight different
milks on their writer, just likeregular old milk, eight different types of
(10:58):
milk that they had needed for theirfor their writer, so like cow goat,
almond, oh, so on andso forth. Okay, my rider's
really boring compared to that. UM, I guess one recent edition that it
wasn't even my idea to put iton there, but it's become a hit,
is uh. We started getting Youremember uncrustables, those little PEB and
(11:22):
J sandwiches, the little saucers.Uh. One of the guys I tour
with decided to put it on therider and at first I thought it was
a dumb idea, and now Ieat him like every show. So there
you go. That's that's my bigsecret to success. Who else I think
has that? I think Sullivan Kinghas that too. That doesn't surprise me
at all. Both of you haverecent kids, you know, eating uncrustables.
(11:45):
Well, I've known Keaton since hewas basically a kid, so I
still think of him as one.Um. But yeah, got in he
has a kid that's older than mine. I'm starting to feel really old now.
Hey, Sam, I want tothank you for this time. Jaws.
All right, man, this wasfantastic. Welcome the barroom again and
this is Wild ninety five five. It's I Heeart Radio and we are out.
(12:09):
Yeah, thanks for having me.Man. This is a little This
is an other baby. Look,Louisa, this is a little This is
an baby. Look Louisa, Babby. This isn't ally let me get the
(12:39):
ball. This is a little hoy. This isn't a baby. The voice
(13:20):
this is a little w isn't knowthe baby, the voice. This is a little
