Speaker 1 (00:00):
It is a Friday. It's Friday show. Matt Case is
my producer, Matt, how you doing today?

Speaker 2 (00:04):
How you feeling. I'm feeling pretty good, feeling pretty spry
on a Friday. It's a Friday s Friday. You know
what I mean. I'm ready to go. Let's go. Ah,
here we go, and I don't care. Let's go.

Speaker 1 (00:12):
Friday is Friday nice? Nicely done? Wait to be We
do this thing called Friday four. Matt, tell the people
what a Friday four it is? Well, the Friday four
is it's a Mount Rushmore. You know when someone says,
you know, I think they are on the Mount Rushmore
of said thing, whether it's the best quarterbacks of all
time in sports or maybe it's just you know, like,

(00:34):
what's your Mount Rushmore of Thanksgiving Day foods? You know,
what are the four things you gotta have on your plate?
That's the Friday for If you can't come up with four,
that's okay, But the top is four. You can't exceed it. Yeah, yeah, exactly.
So that's the thing is you got to find the
four of whatever we're talking about. So I was thinking

(00:55):
about this. We were talking about Lieutenant Dan, this guy
that got famous for riding out this hurricane, and they
Lieutenant Dan simply because he's missing part of one of
his legs and he wanted to ride out a hurricane
on a boat.

Speaker 2 (01:08):
Right.

Speaker 1 (01:08):
I kind of had a problem calling him Lieutenant Dan
because I like the Lieutenant Dan character, and I'm not
so sure this guy lives up to that to that guy.

Speaker 2 (01:17):
Maybe I'm forgetting Lieutenant Dan's full arc in that movie,
But wasn't he kind of on the more like, I
don't remember him being necessarily like a good guy. Lieutenant
Dan was the lieutenant for Forrest Gump when he was
in the army. Okay, he goes to war. Dan is

(01:37):
is his overseer and he ain't got no legs. I
remember that, well, he loses his legs. It's Lieutenant Dan.
Taylor is his name, and Lieutenant Dan. There's a barrage
of bombing that happens. It's the same bombing that kills Bubba.
You remember Bubba from the from the movie.

Speaker 1 (01:55):
Bubba's Forrest's friend, and you know they talk about shrimping
together and all this stuff, and uh, they he loses
Bubba is you know, they're in the middle of a
big battle in Vietnam. That same battle, Lieutenant Dan is
injured and Forrest picks him up and carries him back
to the nurses tent, and and Forrest is recovering from

(02:18):
getting shot in the buttocks.

Speaker 2 (02:19):
If you remember the.

Speaker 1 (02:20):
Butt talks, Yeah, I do remember that from Forrest and uh,
Lieutenant Dan has to have his legs amputated because they're
they're not going to be able to save his legs.
So then Lieutenant Dan tells Gump that we you know, uh,
if you ever become a well no, he kind of
runs into him again at some point right like I

(02:41):
can't remember, it's been a few months since I've seen
the movie, but he shows but back up or something.
He's taking care of Lieutenant Dan and all that stuff,
and they have a weird relationship where Lieutenant Dan's pretty
mean to Forrest, but he always has Forrest back. Basically
like they to celebrate New Year's even a couple of
ladies come and come over to Lieutenant Dan's apartment and

(03:05):
the Forest isn't quite understanding what's going on, and she
they like, are you.

Speaker 2 (03:08):
Stupid or something? I see? I think you could argue
that in the Kan Camp, the pro and the con
of Lieutenant Dan I would put that whole event right
there in the con column of Lieutenant.

Speaker 1 (03:19):
Dan's list and foot movie, but I wouldn't. And here's why,
because you need that for the story arc. Because he
pushes the women away and says, don't you ever call
him stupid? Okay, and they leave and make fun of
him as he you know, yells at him to get
out of his apartment because they called him stupid.

Speaker 2 (03:36):
That's true, and that is a good bonding moment.

Speaker 1 (03:38):
Yeah, and you realize that Lieutenant Dan, despite how surly
he is, that his life is now basically over, like
he doesn't feel like there's anything left to live for
because he lost his legs in the valor and the
bravery that he had when he was actually a lieutenant
in the United States Army and he was over there
in Vietnam. Right well, Lieutenant Dan, guess what happens?

Speaker 2 (03:59):
You know?

Speaker 1 (04:00):
Forrest Gump chases his dream, gets a shrimp and boat.
They go shrimping together, and Lieutenant Dan shows up and said,
I told you if you ever got yourself a shrimp
and boat that I'd be your first meet. Well, I'm
a man of my word, here i am, And there
he was, and then Forrest, you know, and him get
rich as heck on shrimping after a hurricane takes out

(04:22):
all of the other shrimping boats except for theirs somehow,
and they just monopolize that area of the country and
get a ton of shrimp, make billions of dollars, and
Lieutenant Dan basically stays with the shrimp and business while
Forrest goes on to do other things.

Speaker 2 (04:36):
In the movie, I know, Lieutenant Day, Sorry, I was
trying to pick my moment to play that. That was
the wrong time. Continue.

Speaker 1 (04:44):
Lieutenant Dan only shows up again with his new robot.

Speaker 2 (04:48):
Legs his.

Speaker 1 (04:50):
Prosthetics, and he's got himself a new woman, and he
shows up to Forrest's wedding. So you could say in
the movie that Tennant Dan is actually a pretty decent
like number two or a sidekick the Forrest Gump as
far as the movie story is concerned. M Now, there
are other people probably in that movie specifically that line

(05:11):
that up, But that doesn't stop me from thinking, you
know what, who are the best sidekicks?

Speaker 2 (05:16):
Ever?

Speaker 1 (05:17):
I mean this in both a fictional and nonfictional way.
The first sidekick that you think about the top of
your head, I think is the same one I think
of the top of my head. He's the quintessential sidekick.
His name is Robin, Robin Batman's sidekick. Robin Robin would
count for this. But in real life, if I say, like,
who would be like a good sidekick in real life.

Speaker 2 (05:38):
I'm building my list as we speak. Oh, there's some
good ones on this list.

Speaker 1 (05:42):
Okay, you know what I'm saying, Like a vice president
to a president, or a John Adams to a you know,
George Washington, or how about the donkey from Shrek? How
about Scottie Pippen for Michael Jordan. Right, you know, like
there's a lot of different ways you could go about
doing this. So this is the question, what are your
Friday for of sidekicks? We'll give you our list next

(06:02):
and then we'll take your list for the rest of
however long we want to talk about this, So stick
with us. We'll do that next on news Radio eleven
ten kfab.

Speaker 3 (06:11):
Emery's songer on news Radio eleven ten kfab sidekicks.

Speaker 1 (06:17):
Your four favorite or the four best sidekicks from your
vantage point the mount rushmore of sidekicks. Yeh, fictional, non fictional,
and I don't have a lot of parameters on this,
because I think sidekick is unfortunately one of those terms
that can kind of be loosely defined and pretty subjective
on how you look at something. It could like in

(06:39):
a movie, for instance, it could be a supporting actor
that's like third or fourth on the list of like
most important people. But you could make the argument based
on the medium in which we're talking that they could
be a sidekick. I'm not sure I'm going to be
able to referee that very well, Well, let's just go
ahead and do our list, and then we'll take everybody
else's list.

Speaker 2 (06:59):
Matt for the best sidekicks. Okay, my four sidekicks. This
was pretty easy once I kind of looked over who
I could have on the list. Here, I'm just deciding
where to start. So I'll start here with the one
that I had to verify with you that could be
added because this is this is a a trio. Oh

(07:19):
but I do believe that the leader and two sidekicks.
I would actually say that there's definitely a leader, and
then there's this is how I'll categorize this. I'll set
it up so if anyone can guess before I get there,
please do play along at home for no prize. There's
definitely a leader, but I would also say there's also
a star, and those two are not the same person,

(07:40):
all right. And then there's kind of the third person
who maybe has forgot about, forgotten about, but is kind
of the glue that keeps it all together.

Speaker 4 (07:47):
All right.

Speaker 2 (07:48):
So what are we doing here? What are we talking about?
Larry Fine from the Three Stooges. Interesting?

Speaker 1 (07:54):
Interesting, Moe's the leader, he's the leader, but Curly's kind
of the star. Curly is the star, and Larry's just
the curly headed guy who plays violin. You know, But
but you gotta have Curly there, you know, I'm sorry,
but Larry is the is the curly haired guy that
plays the violin. You gotta have Larry there. He's kind
of the glue of the whole thing to me. What

(08:14):
about Shrimp shmp, shmp. That guy, Yeah, he had his moments.

Speaker 2 (08:19):
Of course. He was there with Larry and Moe when
Curly had his health troubles and then eventually passed away
too soon. And and Shemp was actually a so Moe,
Shemp and Curly were all brothers. Larry was just a
very close family friend. And Larry they found on vaudeville.
He had this act where he would play violin in

(08:42):
a ring against like a boxer. Was it was pretty funny,
I'm sure. Yeah, okay, well yeah, I wouldn't have thought
of that, but yeah, that's good. That's good one, yeah, Larry,
All right, Larry. Next, next, I'm gonna go with one
of my favorite shows, and he is definitely the comedy
sidekick in this show. George Costanza. Of course, can't stand you,

(09:03):
George Costanza. He's just the ultimate sidekick. He's just you know,
you need him there for what the show's going for. Yeah,
it's such a perfect character, the kind of guy who
can never get out of his own way, has opportunity
after opportunity that he squanders, and he's just he's he's hilarious.
But he's definitely the sidekick to Jerry Seinfeld. And there's

(09:23):
no doubt in that friendship who the leader is and
who the sidekick.

Speaker 1 (09:26):
And they and they appreciate the roles. Yes, yeah, yes,
all right. Next next would be Dwight Shrewt.

Speaker 2 (09:33):
Yeah. Yeah, he's one of those and he's the sidekick
that doesn't like that role. Well, you're right, he wants to.
He's the assistant manager and no, you're the assistant to
the manager, right kind of thing. And he spends the
entire series of the Office trying to eventually get there,
and the I don't want to spoil it for anyone,
but there is a moment when he does and it

(09:54):
does not go well at all.

Speaker 1 (09:56):
He's he's built to be a sidekick, but his brain
wants him to be leader. Yeah, yes, yeah, but he's
still a sidekick. Yes, he's definitely a sidekick, and he
likes to try to you know, suck up to the
boss for sure, all right. And then lastly, lastly, I'm
going to go to maybe I would argue the greatest
sidekick of all time?

Speaker 2 (10:16):
Why it's Sam Wise gamci Proto's sidekick and Lord under
the Rings? Is there a better sidekick? I mean, what
a good friend. Never wanted the spotlight, was only there
to lift Froto up when he needed it. Just a
really wholesome, good dude in those movies. And that's what
you want in a sidekick. He never wants the star role,

(10:38):
he never wants the spotlight, but he's Johnny on the
spot when you need him for something, whatever it is.

Speaker 1 (10:44):
Dang, it's pretty good. Yeah, all right, enough for the music.
All right, I got my four. I have four completely.
We don't Usually we have some crossover here, this time
we do not. We are very separate here. My number
four is Barney Rubble. That is a wingman if there
ever was one. But I'm not a weak man to

(11:04):
get women. A wingman just to enjoy life and have fun.
Fred Flintstone is the superstar of the Flintstones, so I mean,
the show's named after him and his family. But Barney
Rubble needs to be there because every good star needs
a good friend, and Barney's there for Fred through thick
and through thin, and I always got a real kick

(11:24):
out of them. Number three Garth algar Yes, party on Garth.
Does anything in Wayne's World work without Garth. Wayne's a
great character. I would argue nothing makes sense, nothing works
without Garth, and specifically Danea playing Garth. Okay, you need
to have Dana Carve's Garth in there if any of
that's gonna work. And it works, trust me, it's one

(11:46):
of the greatest things that ever came out of SNL.
So Garth from Wayne's World. Number two it's a two
parter and I unfortunately could not bring myself to just
putting one of them there. I needed both of them there.
So this is a little bit of a cheat, but
I think it makes We're going to share their spot
on Mount Rushmore. Ron Weasley and Harmoni Granger.

Speaker 2 (12:05):
Harry Potter. Oh you didn't read Harry Potter. I know
very little about Harry Potter. You don't know Harry Potter.
I honestly don't. That's one of the very popular things
that I know very little about.

Speaker 1 (12:18):
Watch the first movie and you'll know exactly what I'm
talking about. Okay, Like that's you. Just those two hours,
it's all you need, and you're like, Okay, those are
a couple of good sidekicks, gotcha.

Speaker 2 (12:27):
Harry Potter is the star of the show.

Speaker 1 (12:29):
I have my qualms about the way that that series
goes and why Harry Potter is such a like elevated
guy and such an elevated person, and you know, kind
of my problem with the fact that the school basically
revolves around him and only him for some reason. Well,
Ron Weasley and Harmoni Granger get him out of trouble
and help him along and are there for him every

(12:51):
step of the way. And I just couldn't separate them.
You know, Ron is really the buddy friend and eventually,
I hate to spoil this if you didn't pay attention,
but Ron and Harmony end up together at the end
of the whole thing, So oh really yeah, yeah, that
doesn't really permeate itself. It kind of there's seed leads
and teases until we get to the very end when
they've matured.

Speaker 2 (13:10):
Right.

Speaker 1 (13:10):
The whole thing starts when there like ten years old
and they meet each other for the first time in
the first movie, which again is where you should absolutely start.
You do not want to jump in the middle of this.
You will have no idea what the heck's going on.
But then by the end of it, they're like eighteen
years old, basically trying to wrap up school. And how
much school even happened at Hogwarts while they were there.
Let's be honest. It was always in chaos. Everything was

(13:30):
always in chaos. But Ron and Hermoni were always there
for Harry Potter, and without them, Harry doesn't get to
even live probably, and the school is definitely screwed. You know,
from voldemorton, you know the other bad guys that you know,
the tom Riddles of the world that tried to come
in and destroy them. Tom Riddle and Voldemort wanted the

(13:51):
same at the same time too. And lastly, number one
best sidekick of all time, Doctor John Watson from Sherlock Holmes. Watson,
I mean Sherlock Holmes works because Watson's there. Watson is
every bit of Barney Rubbel to Sherlock's Fred Flintstone. And
good luck making a Sherlock Holmes where Holmes is all
by himself and he cannot like bounce some stuff off

(14:13):
of Holmes or Watson. He doesn't get a chance to
talk to Watson at all. Watson doesn't get to be
like Devil's advocate and maybe help formulate some workshopping ideas
or something like that. So our list, my list Barney Rebel,
Garth Alger from Wayne's World, Ron and Hermani from Harry Potter,
and then doctor Watson from Sherlock Holmes. Your list was

(14:34):
just to reiterate My list was George Costanza, Dwight Shrewt,
Larry Fine from The Three Stooges, and Sam Wise Gamci
from Lord of the Rings. Yeah, all right, your turn.
You can call it a four roh two five five
eight eleven ten four row two five five, eight, eleven, ten,
or email Emory at kfab dot com your four favorite
or the four best sidekicks from your vantage point.

Speaker 2 (14:57):
Hit me up. We'll talk more about it next on
news radio leve In KFAB.

Speaker 3 (15:02):
Emery Sunger on news radio eleven ten KFAB.

Speaker 2 (15:08):
What exactly did we learn? Well, first of all, we
need to preface this. At the top of the show,
I said, we have not gotten a winner. Were almost
two weeks into this contest, and I said, I will
sing Bohemian Rhapsody from start to finish, including the instrumentations,
in the five o'clock hours today if we don't have
a winner, and there will be no singing of the

(15:29):
Bohemian Rhapsody, including instruments. Because because we got a winner,
we got one. Christ is a winner.

Speaker 1 (15:39):
We're gonna get more information about Chris that we just
found this out and we're gonna try to get her
on the show by the end of the day.

Speaker 2 (15:43):
So how about that.

Speaker 1 (15:46):
Maybe I just need to you know, cruel and unusual
punishment and everybody, like there was one time that we
said your life was on the line, Like the next
hour there was a winner.

Speaker 2 (15:56):
How does that work? How does that happen?

Speaker 1 (15:58):
Should we get a shark tank with real sharks and
just put it out in the parking lot and say, look,
one of us is having to dunk in if we
don't get a winner.

Speaker 2 (16:04):
And might you know what that might solve two of
our problems. One would be we'd get a winner and
the other we'd solve the problem from yesterday. How do
we get famous by doing something dumb? There you go.

Speaker 1 (16:15):
Unfortunately, I don't know if one of like, whoever goes
in that tank is probably not going to survive. Take
one for the team. All right, Our deal is the Oh,
chris Ha just emailed me. She just sent me an email,
So yeah, we'll get it. We'll get a I'm gonna
email her back and I'm going to set up us
talking to her on the on the radio.

Speaker 2 (16:35):
Cool. That is hilarious, all right?

Speaker 1 (16:37):
Anyway, Friday four is best or favorite sidekicks And this
could be fictional non fictional, just sidekicks in general. Who
you know kind of plays second fiddle or second banana
to a hero or a leader. And Don's on a
phone line. We'll start with Don today, Don, welcome to
the show. What's on your mind about this?

Speaker 4 (16:56):
I you've already gotten three of mine, but the ones
I want to give it is Johnny, David, Laura and Alexis.

Speaker 2 (17:05):
Oh who are they?

Speaker 5 (17:06):
Why?

Speaker 4 (17:07):
They were on the show, And I thought you didn't
want me to give the name of it.

Speaker 2 (17:11):
It's the name, okay. I think it's a show that
is uh it's the one where the first word is
not spelled like it but said like a word that
we can't say. Yeah, and then the second word is creek.
I got it, I got it, I got it all right.
Yeah that show. My wife absolutely loved that show. We're
talking like Catherine O'Hara and Geene Levy and Eugene Levy
and Stuffy and those guys.

Speaker 4 (17:32):
Yeah, that's the ones.

Speaker 1 (17:33):
Yeah, that's a that's an Actually, that's a very funny show.
Anybody who is looking for some good Canadian style comedy.
That's a good show. Yeah, that's a good one. The
whole gang they are kind of sidekicks in that show.

Speaker 2 (17:48):
They are.

Speaker 1 (17:49):
It's a funny show. My wife really likes it. John's
on the phone line four, two, five, five, eight to eleventon.
Hey John, what's up?

Speaker 6 (17:56):
Hi, Amory? Uh So I've got tours three three Okay.
The first one would be from The Honeymooners. Ark Carney
is Norton opposite Ralph Crampton and Jackie Gleason's character.

Speaker 2 (18:09):
Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 6 (18:10):
And as a side note, actually, I think Alice would
be a good uh uh sidekick to Ralph too, write well.

Speaker 2 (18:20):
One of these days, Alice, one of these days.

Speaker 6 (18:24):
Yeah to the moon you know so. And actually I
think sometimes h Norton and Ralph going back to each other,
they could actually be sidekicks to each other in some ways.

Speaker 2 (18:36):
So yeah, maybe, yeah.

Speaker 6 (18:38):
Yeah. The other one would be Ed McMahon to Johnny Carson.

Speaker 1 (18:42):
Oh yeah, and that one that was one like in
real life. There's no doubt that Ed McMahon was as famous,
I think in real life as any sidekick has ever been.

Speaker 6 (18:51):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, And that's what I've got.

Speaker 1 (18:54):
So all right, thanks John, that's good listen, Thanks for
listening to us today. Thanks for calling you.

Speaker 6 (18:58):
Bet.

Speaker 1 (18:59):
Let's go to a second John, a different John, John
number two, welcome to our show.

Speaker 2 (19:02):
What do you got?

Speaker 7 (19:03):
Yeah, So, compliments on John Watson and Samway's gamse those
are those are two classics. I was going to add
R two D two. He's kind of a sidekick to
different people throughout the series. But he's always the sidekick
in that movie or in those movies.

Speaker 2 (19:21):
That's fair.

Speaker 7 (19:22):
And then also a little more comedy or maybe my youth.
But Pinky from Pinky in the Brain.

Speaker 1 (19:29):
Yeah, yes, yes, Pinky in the Brain, those lab mice
and man Brain. He he had all these convoluted pit plans.
But you know, Pinky. I don't know if Brain would
say Pinky was a great sidekick, but I enjoyed Pinky,
that's for sure. I appreciate the call, John, thanks for
listening to us. Trout Faz on our phone line four two, five, five,

(19:53):
eight to eleven ten, tral Faz, what you got, buddy, Hey.

Speaker 5 (19:56):
Happy Friday?

Speaker 8 (19:57):
Yes, well how about Midther's mister Smithers.

Speaker 2 (20:03):
Yeah Forgommery Burns.

Speaker 8 (20:06):
Yeah yeah, Also like Pedro Sanchez, the sidekick to the
infamous Napoleon Dynamite.

Speaker 2 (20:13):
Yeah, so Pedro, And it's funny in Pedro wins class President, right,
Like that's the role that you would think that the
star would have, but really he is the sidekick, and
Napoleon elevates him to that because Napoleon's a good friend.

Speaker 8 (20:29):
Yeah, and I think he's kind of reluctant sidekick. But
our silent or whatever. But yeah, it's a good sidekick. Also,
like James May and Richard Hammond, they're kind of like
dual sidekicks to Jeremy.

Speaker 2 (20:43):
Clarkson, oh in top top gear, top gear.

Speaker 8 (20:46):
Yeah yeah, all right, all right, and then I got
deal again. He's kind of I don't know not it's
kind of a little buddy side kick to the.

Speaker 2 (20:54):
The Skipper Skipper.

Speaker 1 (20:56):
Yeah, yeah, I couldn't figure that one out right, like
the high hierarchy there, but I guess, you know, you
could say Gilligan even though it's Gilligan's island. He's more
functional as a sidekick as they are are making their plans,
that's for sure. Hey, trout Faz, good stuff, man, Thanks
for listening to our show and being a part of.

Speaker 8 (21:12):
It today Friday.

Speaker 2 (21:14):
Take care you too.

Speaker 1 (21:15):
Pat's on our phone line four two, five, five, eight
eleven ten, which say you Pat.

Speaker 9 (21:20):
Yeah, so this is really gonna age me. But so
the lone Ranger in Tonto, I've.

Speaker 1 (21:29):
Gotten a ton of emails, Okay, so I haven't got
I haven't read any of them. I would say half
of the emails have Tonto in there.

Speaker 9 (21:36):
That's cool. I'm glad to hear that, and then I
also had Butch Cassidy in the sundek Kid.

Speaker 2 (21:41):
That's a great one, great pairing there.

Speaker 9 (21:43):
And I had Desie and Lucy.

Speaker 2 (21:48):
So who would who would be the sidekick?

Speaker 10 (21:50):
There?

Speaker 2 (21:50):
Is it?

Speaker 9 (21:51):
Oh? Like I definitely felt like, yeah he was star.

Speaker 2 (21:55):
Yeah, you're right, you're right.

Speaker 9 (21:56):
And then Tom and Jerry the.

Speaker 2 (21:58):
Cat in the Mouth Yeah, and and that's the thing
I think, go.

Speaker 9 (22:01):
Ahead, No, I was just thinking, I'm not really sure
which one is a star because they both were really good.

Speaker 1 (22:07):
Yeah, but that's the thing they kind of needed each other,
which is, you know, a good thing of the sidekick.
I think you know, if I had the bet, if
you show a picture of Tom and then a picture
of Jerry, I think people will recognize Tom more than Jerry,
like isolated. So I would say Jerry is by by
way of the show. They don't ever really work together,
but they by the way of the show being the

(22:30):
popular show that we know it to be. I think
he is the functional sidekick. However, it is kind of
interesting because they are pro and antagonists against each other there,
but they need each other to exist, and any good
sidekick is going to be a part of that. So
a pat thanks for the list, Thanks for calling in
and being a part of our show today.

Speaker 2 (22:48):
Thank you all right, plenty of more.

Speaker 1 (22:50):
People are calling in with their favorites, and I got
a lot of emails.

Speaker 2 (22:52):
I'm not so.

Speaker 1 (22:53):
I'm not sure I'm going to get to read all

Hey, John, appreciate staying categorical there for me right amount
of time this hour, So I got to move on.
We'll take more calls on this as we go into
the five o'clock hour. We'll touch base with Sean Callaghan
real quick before we do that, and is plenty more
coming up stick around right here on news Radio eleven
ten KFAB. Earlier today, we were talking about our Friday
four Friday four. Today is our sidekicks? Your four favorite sidekicks? Matt,

(27:22):
remind us what your sidekicks were.

Speaker 2 (27:23):
My sidekicks were George Costanza from Seinfeld yep, Dwight Shroot
from the Office Assistant to the Assistant. What was the
third one? It was, Oh, Larry Fine from the Three Stooges.
Because I clarified beforehand, can it be can it be
someone in a trio? Yeah, I would say that Larry
Fine is the sidekick of that trio. And the fourth

(27:45):
one I would say is the greatest sidekick of all time,
Sam Wise Gamgee from Lord of the Ring from Lord
of the Rings.

Speaker 1 (27:52):
Mine was Barney Rubble from The Flintstones, Garth from Wayne's World,
Ron Weasley and Harmoni Granger. I stuffed them together as
a sidekick for Harry Potter and then doctor John Watson,
who was, of course Sherlock Holmes right hand man. They
sawd a lot of crimes together. Well, the phone lines
are open for yours as well. Four, two, five, five, eight, eleven, ten,
And let's go ahead and get to Casey. Casey, thanks
for hanging on the show today. What's your list for us?

Speaker 5 (28:14):
You bet hey?

Speaker 13 (28:15):
I'm the first to say that I'm a Hawkeye fan,
but my best sidekick with you guys would be Tom
Osborne and Frank Solich.

Speaker 1 (28:24):
Interesting. Yeah, I mean in theory, that's exactly what a
sidekick would do, isn't it me? You know, and then
be able to take over the reins, right, Yeah, I
mean it's good.

Speaker 13 (28:33):
To be able to say I'm the first one to
call it in.

Speaker 2 (28:35):
Yeah, that's a good one.

Speaker 13 (28:36):
Hawk Eye fan graveling traveling from Omaha to NORFK. But anyway,
that's the only one I got.

Speaker 1 (28:41):
Hey, that's a that's a great one, casey, you know,
and that's something you know, like we get all kind
of caught up in like manufactured fictional characters, but in
a real life situation, that's exactly what a good sidekick
would be, is Frank Solich to Tom Osborne. I can't
believe nobody sawt of that. That's a good one.

Speaker 2 (28:56):
Thanks for calling that in, you bet, take care of guys.

Speaker 1 (28:58):
Yeah, I have great weekend. Let's get to James real James,
appreciate you for calling in today. What do you got
cal Ah, Yeah, shaking bake se shaking bank. Thanks, thanks David,
It's a good one. Shaking bake hey. And then when

into a fight, his col steals uh Ricky Bobby's wife

(29:22):
and she changes his nickname to uh the magic Man. Ah,
now you see me? Yeah, now you don't like Okay,
that's a good nickname. And then and then and then
later it's like, let's go back to shaking baking, and
Ricky Bobby says, nah, nah, you're gonna be the magic
Man and I'm gonna be l d Oblo and cal
Nwton Junr.

Speaker 2 (29:40):
Is like el diablo sounds cool?

Speaker 6 (29:42):
What is it?

Speaker 2 (29:43):
He's like, I don't know, some kind of chicken. You
can't tell me.

Speaker 1 (29:48):
Well, Ferrell movies aren't funny. Come on, all right, we
got more where this came from. I got a bunch
of emails. I'm gonna try to sift through as many
of them as I can. We got to talk back
as well. I want to play. If you want to
call in, you can't four two, five, five, eight, eleven
ten As we talk about our f favorite sidekicks on
a Friday on news Radio eleven ten KFAB.

Speaker 3 (30:03):
Oh Maurice Soner on news Radio eleven ten KFAB.

Speaker 14 (30:07):
How about the Barney from the Andy Griffith Show.

Speaker 2 (30:11):
Yeah, don Notts himself.

Speaker 1 (30:12):
Yeah, so, Matt, you want to explain how he kind
of entered our conversation before anybody actually mentioned him.

Speaker 2 (30:18):
Yeah, well, I googled basically the greatest sidekicks of all
time and his picture showed up, and you know what
it said next to it? What Barney Rubble? Oh? Come on,
somebody on the internet was close, but no cigar.

Speaker 1 (30:31):
Oh come on. Those guys are so famous by themselves.
How are you putting Donna's picture next to Barney Rubble?

Speaker 2 (30:36):
Ge with? Yeah, he's a good one.

Speaker 1 (30:38):
My mom even actually texted me about him Barney five,
and I've got plenty of emails, So that's a good one. John,
appreciate you for calling in. Thanks for listening to our
show today.

Speaker 8 (30:46):
Amen.

Speaker 1 (30:47):
All right, hey, we got one in the talk back
to the talk back. Easy way to leave talk back.
You go to the iHeartRadio Epics free you search Elevnton KFA,
but you can listen to the radio station live from
anywhere in the United States of America, maybe even beyond.
I'm not one hundred percent sure on that, but either way,
what you can do is there's a red microphone button
as you're listening, and you can hit that button and
he'll record up to thirty seconds of your best audio

(31:09):
and then we get it in our inbox once you
sit it to us. And Matt sounds like Paul in
the talkback has an opinion on this.

Speaker 10 (31:15):
Good Friday, everybody. My four is first one is Robin
and next one is Matt Case. Third is any defense
that solves the quarterbacks issues. And the fourth one, I'd
had to say, Daryl and Darryl.

Speaker 2 (31:30):
Daryl and Darryl.

Speaker 1 (31:31):
I'm sure that's something that people know, but I don't know,
not familiar. Hey, Matt Case, what do you think getting
getting a shout out on the list there?

Speaker 2 (31:38):
Yeah, I can't say no to that. I appreciate it.
Paul and proud to be riding in the sidecar. Yeah, no,
I need you in the sidecar. You know you're you
are my Robin. I don't really like being Batman, but
you know, you know, somebody's got to do it. I mean,
just don't make me dressed like Robin. I mean, I mean,
somebody's got to do it. Has had a good Batman.

(31:58):
Somebody's got to do it. Yeah, So if you want
to leave a talk back. You can do that as well.

Speaker 1 (32:02):
Four O two five five eight eleven ten is the
phone number and the emails as well. Uh E M
E R Y at KFA B dot com. I got
a ton of them. There's no way I'm reading all
of these. There's this way too many. But a lot
of Spock is in here, a lot of people dropping
in different Star Wars ones. We're getting like a lot
of R two D two and Chewbacca, So you have
like a couple of different ones, right, And then I

(32:25):
got a Pikachu. Brian sent in Pikachu ash Ketchum. Pikachu
is a sidekick. I mean I didn't think of it
that way, but he really is, Like he is a
right hand thing for for ash Ketchum in Pokemon. I
didn't even think about that. We had multiple matt cases
in here, though, And I do appreciate everybody for sending
that in that you could think that he's one of

(32:46):
your favorite sidekicks. You're one of my favorite too. I
just thought it was too obvious to put it on
my list.

Speaker 2 (32:50):
Yah my, thanks, Like where am I in the sidekick?
You know, like, what's what's my what's my perfect one?
For one like am I ed Dwight shreut am I
at George Castanza. No, Dwight one would want me to
get fired and take my job. That's true, and I
don't have any interest in.

Speaker 1 (33:04):
That, right like you, just like sliding into a role
and just like fitting into a role as perfectly as possible.
It's gotta be Scottie Pippin.

Speaker 2 (33:12):
Okay, I'll take it. I was gonna say Millhouse no,
because that means I'm Bart. I'm not Bart.

Speaker 1 (33:18):
Five twenty six is the time. Let's go ahead and
get back to Tom on the phone line. Tom, and
welcome to the show today.

Speaker 6 (33:23):
What do you think, Hey, good afternoon.

Speaker 14 (33:25):
I'm gonna take a shot at doing all four from
one movie. We're going to do the band, the Bandit
and Snowman okay, but then step down from that Snowman
and Fred.

Speaker 5 (33:34):
Okay, sidekick in the truck.

Speaker 14 (33:36):
Yeah, and then we'll go big and Little Lena's for Debt,
and then we'll wrap it up with Sheriff You for
Tea Justice and Junior.

Speaker 1 (33:43):
Now, see that was a movie just full of full
of buddies, full of sidekicks all across the board.

Speaker 13 (33:48):
And yeah, yeah, sorry to leave South.

Speaker 2 (33:51):
Yeah, no, I'm here to thought this good stuff. I
appreciate you for calling in, man, thanks for being a
part of the conversation. Yeah, you have a good weekend.
We'll take more calls coming up next. And we got
to get in touch with our winner. We had a
thousand dollars winner earlier today, which is why you're not
hearing me seeing Bohemian Rhapsody in full, including the instruments.

Speaker 1 (34:07):
We'll talk to her as well. But if you want
to call in and be a part of our last
segment talking about our Friday four you can four h
two five, five, eight to eleven ten on news Radio
eleven ten. Kay, baby, and raised on there. Let's go
back to the phones and Bill, Bill, welcome to the show.
What's on your mind?

Speaker 13 (34:22):
Thanks? Okay, I think the ultimate sidekick has to be
Gabby Hey. Gabby Hayes was a sidekick to Roy Rogers
and some of his film He was a sidekick to
John Wayne in some of his film and he was
a sidekick to a number of others and other Western
films Cheat Oustrey.

Speaker 7 (34:41):
For a while.

Speaker 1 (34:41):
Yeah, So so is this like a universal sidekick here?

Speaker 5 (34:45):
Yeah?

Speaker 13 (34:45):
I mean that was his gig as an actor was
as a sidekick.

Speaker 2 (34:49):
Yeah, you gotta know you're role.

Speaker 13 (34:50):
And I think you know he has to be in
there for sure. I mean you got you got, you know.
Pat Buttram was also for Roy Rogers, and you had
Ward Bond with a sidekick for John Wayne and numerous movies.

Speaker 2 (35:07):
Yeah, sure, no, I'm hearing you. Bill. That's good stuff.

Speaker 1 (35:09):
Hey, I gotta I gotta move on to other callers
so we can wrap this thing up. But I appreciate
you calling in. That's an excellent perspective on this. Thanks
for calling in. Okay, all right, let's go to Brian. Brian,
welcome to the show today. What do you got for me?

Speaker 8 (35:19):
Well?

Speaker 5 (35:19):
I got three from the Gold and Silver Edge and
television and one that's the earliest recorded sidekick in human history.

Speaker 6 (35:27):
All right, fire away, okay, Ed McMahon, Oh yeah.

Speaker 2 (35:30):
That's going. Ed Norton Okay, yep, yep. Ethel Merse okay,
ethel A with Lucy right.

Speaker 13 (35:38):
Yeah, and thank you do from the Epic of Gilgamesh.

Speaker 1 (35:42):
Yeah, okay, now there's there's a there's a poll there. Yeah.
The stories through the years. Hey, Brian, appreciate you taking
part in our conversation today. Thanks for listening. Let's go
ahead and got two more here we'll take the last two.
John number one, John, welcome to our show today. What
you got for me?

Speaker 5 (35:58):
Okay?

Speaker 14 (36:00):
About Vicker from Doctor Bunsen Honeydoon Vicker on Muppet Labs.

Speaker 2 (36:04):
Excellent, excellent, that's right.

Speaker 14 (36:07):
That's right. And here's another one. How about Stampy from
Ren and Stampy.

Speaker 2 (36:12):
Oh, now you're talking my language.

Speaker 5 (36:14):
There you go, And let's see.

Speaker 14 (36:17):
I don't know if you ever saw the cartoon two
Stupid Dogs.

Speaker 2 (36:20):
I am familiar, but very vaguely, very vaguely.

Speaker 14 (36:23):
Well they were, they were stupid dogs. I can't remember
their names. And then the last one. I would probably
go with Burton Ernie from The Muppet Show too.

Speaker 1 (36:35):
Yeah, there you go. Now see, there you go. There's
some guys. That's some some porty cast right there. Hey, John,
appreciate you calling and have a good weekend.

Speaker 14 (36:41):
Have a good day, Amory.

Speaker 2 (36:42):
Yeah you too.

Speaker 1 (36:43):
John number two will be our last caller of the
day on this John, thanks for being a part of
the show.

Speaker 7 (36:48):
What you got he may thanks for taking my call.
I've got Astro from the Jetsons.

Speaker 8 (36:53):
I haven't heard that one yet.

Speaker 2 (36:55):
Whoa Yeah, Okay, a little deep cut there, the Jetsons, Hey, George,
that's in needed astro. I mean, a man's best friend
even into the future.

Speaker 14 (37:03):
And another best friend Scooby Doo who you there?

Speaker 8 (37:07):
You go?

Speaker 5 (37:08):
And Uncle Fester.

Speaker 10 (37:10):
Mm from Adam's family huh I know, yeah, he was
from the Adam's family.

Speaker 8 (37:15):
And the other thing I got to say is Matt
is not really a sidekick.

Speaker 6 (37:20):
He's a co pilot.

Speaker 1 (37:21):
I'm with you one hundred percent, John. If he wants
to be a sidekick, he's a sidekick. If he wants
to be the co pilot, I'm one hundred percent down.
He's actually on all the controls over there. So yeah,
I'm with you on that. That's a that's good. Absolutely
couldn't deal with that. And that's for sure.

Speaker 2 (37:36):
John. Appreciate you calling in and being a part of
our show today.

Speaker 5 (37:39):
Okay, have a great weekend.

Speaker 2 (37:40):
Love the show, thanks, Man, really appreciate it.

Speaker 5 (37:43):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (37:43):
Four oh two, five, five, eight, eleven ten is that number?
We'll take one more. Christy is on the phone line
real quick, Hey Christy, what you got I.

Speaker 11 (37:49):
Hey, I'm going to keep this short and sweet, right.

Speaker 12 (37:52):
Nobody can forget Blazing Shaddles come on, let's go, g.

Speaker 2 (37:56):
Wilder, come one. Yeah, okay, that is that the only
one you got for me today? Here, Christy, Yeah, that's
the only one.

Speaker 5 (38:05):
All right.

Speaker 2 (38:05):
I appreciate you calling in getting that one in on
the buzzer. Appreciate you all right, weekend, Yeah you as well,
Thank you so much.

Speaker 1 (38:12):
We got Michael who left us a talk back on
the free iHeartRadio app. You just go to Elevington Kfab
you hit the red microphone button. You can leave us
up to thirty seconds of good audio. Here's what Michael
had to say.

Speaker 2 (38:24):
Hey guys, is Michael, Lucy Chapman. Nice to Scott, Nice.

Speaker 5 (38:30):
Rosie to Gary.

Speaker 2 (38:34):
Oh of course Matt two.

Speaker 1 (38:37):
Yep, you he didn't say my name. I'm still Ian
to a lot of people, so you know, like, that's okay.

Speaker 2 (38:44):
Now I think that's my fault. It's not my fault.

Speaker 1 (38:47):
My name's weird. Well did he say it? Hold on
a second. He didn't say my name.

Speaker 2 (38:51):
He didn't say it at the beginning, Hey guys, is Michael.

Speaker 1 (38:54):
No, he said, hey guys, Oh, that's okay. He knows,
he knows, he knows, he knows. I'm I'm his noon pal. Yeah, whatever,
my name is Emory. By the way, it is, it
is I was I was looking for a drop that was.
That was my moment to say, yeah, it's okay, it's fine,
it's fine. What do you think co pilot or sidekick?
What would you I think? Because you're at the controls

(39:16):
and you control so much of actually what happens here.
You know, most of these sidekicks we're talking about, really
they are needed. They can be there as like really
good support system in a variety of ways. But the
show goes on without them, right, I don't really have
the ability to, like, the show is not even close
to the same without you being there. And honestly, when
you're here, you're running all of the controls over there,

(39:37):
which quite literally puts me on the air. So I
feel like you're more co pilot than sidekick.

Speaker 2 (39:41):
Okay, I'll take it. It sounds more fancy co pilot.

Speaker 1 (39:45):
Yeah, should we have a list of the best co
pilots of all time? But how would you really differentiate?
That's that's the question, is where would that line be.
We probably end up with a lot of the same people. Yeah,
I don't know. Hey, it's by forty four. You know
what we did earlier today we got a thousand dollars winner.
Uh huh yeah, And I said I was going to
sing Bohemian Rhapsody a cappella, but I don't have to

(40:06):
do that because we got a winner. It's crazy how
that works out, am I right?

Speaker 2 (40:10):
It sure is. It's just amazing. And you know, I
don't know, is there anyone tuned in that was waiting
for that, and they're just like, oh, I can't wait
to listen to the five o'clock hour for Emory have
to you know, sing the entire six minutes of Bohemian
Rhapsody in a cappella. And I said I was going
to sing all of the instrumentation as well. I mean,
it would have been a nightmare. It would have been

(40:30):
awful radio. It would have been long too. That's a
long song. Yeah, it's not.

Speaker 1 (40:34):
We did this before our favorite long songs. That's not
even the close to the longest good song though, like
for play, Long Time by Boston's longer than that. You know,
Free Birds about as long as that. It's free Bird Hotel,
California is longer than that. Yeah, it just feels long
because there's like eighteen movements in it, right, So yeah,
there you go.
