(00:00):
Interesting news. I've been followed onX by Summer Rose Mcarey. Okay,
Summer Rose Mcarey has eighty nine followers. It looks like a beautiful young woman
with the foreign language behind her.She has made one post on X and
that was back on July tenth oflast year, and it says for a
handful of my letters. I'm guessingthis is a bot that I have been
followed by. And there's a lotmore where that came from. And I

(00:22):
just want to throw this out there. I had a guy call in really
angry at me once because I saidthat the Elon ruined Twitter. Elon has
ruined Twitter or x or whatever. And sure he's a free speech guy,
and sure he's you know, gota lot of conservative values. And I
don't mind any of that. I'mjust saying, as a product, it
stinks there's none of my bots everywhere. Now. He said he was going
to take out the bots. I'mfinding our bots, Matt. So if

(00:42):
somebody calls in mad that I havesaid that Elon made Twitter worse because they
never got a handle on the bots, please tell him that I apologize that
you He and I will just haveto agree to disagree on this one.
Well, first off, it's xoh get off me. Oh anyway,
yeah, he You know what,as someone who does not have a Twitter
account and has never used it,I agree, he's ruined a beautiful platform

(01:04):
and I'm disgusted beyond belief. Wayto ruin the credibility of this program there,
man, all right, serious matters. Yesterday this time, we were
kind of recovering from what was apretty devastating storm day. It wasn't over
here though, it really wasn't inNebraska. It kind of picked up steam.
What were we seeing on the likethe speed of this system. It

(01:27):
was going fast when it was movingthrough here. The one to the south
of US was moving it around fiftyfive miles per hour, and that continued
into Iowa. Yeah so, andit was the southernmost tip of this line
of storms that actually had the mostdangerous stuff in there. I don't know
why, I don't know what kindof ingredients specifically got together. And I'm

(01:49):
telling you what that Greenfield, Iowa. So it's like halfway between here in
Des Moines to the east of US. You see those photos and videos,
Yeah, that's just heartbreaking stuff.Like a picture that a drone took from
high above it, and I meanyou just see you see the pathway.
The news has confirmed that four peoplewere killed in this, and I mean,

(02:12):
I also saw that the National WeatherService did a really good job of
a learning people. Greenfield was undera tornado warning for roughly forty five minutes
before this actually happened and got there, and this tornado was confirmed for roughly
forty minutes. So I don't know, there's a lot of different people out
there with different perspectives on stuff. And if you happen to see anything,

(02:34):
or you came through Western Iowa,we'd love to hear from you. You
can always call in at four twofive five eight eleven ten four two five
five eight eleven ten as we learnmore about this. But the news has
confirmed four people killed. According toI was a patrol sergeant, Alex Dinkla,
and they are treating the situation continuouslyas a search mission to try to

(02:54):
find more people. Iowa Governor KimReynolds was there and said, you know,
had some things to say as shewas seeing it for the first time
in person, and then after that, you know, talked about schools who
had let out early, you know, back in my day, and I'm
not that old. We went andlet out for school early for like thunderstorms,
but they did for this one.Imagine what would have happened if they

(03:15):
didn't, you know what I mean? Imagine being like I know that schools
generally are a pretty safe place, but I couldn't imagine this happening and being
separated from your kids in that scenario. There are two disaster recovery centers also
in Iowa for that, and KimReynolds declared a disaster proclamation for fifteen Iowa
counties and that includes a Dare Countywhere Greenfield is. Ken's on our phone

(03:35):
line at four h two five fiveeight eleven ten, Ken, what's on
your mind about this? Hey?Thanks for taking my call. Yes,
say, I grew up in Stuart, Iowa, which was roughly seventeen miles
away from there, and they hada beautiful little theater there. I went
and saw a top gun there ineighty six and the people there are just
genuine as super small town. Wewrestled there. They had the pizza hut.
It was closer than Des Moines,so we would go pizza hut there.

(03:58):
And my niece has a farm rightoff my O marker ninety four and
are on I eighty, which isabout twelve miles from Greenfield, and they
saw it all to the south, and just my heart just goes out to
them. But it is a typicalsmall town, and you know, at
most folks in ioland nebraskakam relate tothat. I know there's a lot of
folks in the city, but itstill has that small town field, you
know what I mean. Oh yeah, and Greenfield just represents what I was

(04:19):
all about. And Stuart and thewhole Big eight conference that used to be
there, I just my heart justgoes out to him because I know what
it's like to be in a smalltown and to lose. It looks like
a bomb went off there. Idon't know if you saw that dr one
video. Yeah, it's crazy. It's just crazy. But anyway, my
heart goes out to him. AndGod bless you for bringing it up and
showing this light on this city, because small towns are a big thing,

(04:39):
and I think you're going to seea miracle come out of this. I
really do. But I just wantedto say, God bless him. I
wish them all the best and thanksfor thanks for putting a light on this
moment. Man, absolutely, Ken, thanks for listening to us today.
Take care you too. Yeah,I mean, how BIG's York about eight
thousand. I grew up in atown of twenty five thousand. Those are
a lot bigger than Greenfield is.But I think by the death definition of

(05:00):
a small city or a small town, I mean, there's absolutely no way
right that, there's absolutely no waythat we could ever forget our people that
are down there, even if youdon't know anybody personally, you know,
someplace like Greenfield. We're on theway coming up on news radio eleven ten
kfa B, and our phone lineis open for you. Four oh two
five five eight eleven ten. Fouroh two five five eight eleven ten.
Let's go to the phone line toGary. Gary, thanks for the call

(05:21):
today. What's on your mind?Yeah, I am Marie. I was
I decided to just get to workbefore the really bad stuff hit. And
I was watching WHO TV on myphone. So where are you Gary?
Sorry, I'm in West Des Moines. Okay, all right, go ahead.
Yeah, And I was watching whoTV on my phone and they had

(05:44):
their super Dopa radar and that's amazingwhat you can see on that thing,
and and Wilson and Jerry Ane Rither, we're going through it, and they
saw a debris field in Corning, which is southwest of Greenfield, and they
said, yeah, out that thingis real. And they even had a
storm spot out there and he wasable to see the tornado. And so

(06:10):
they said, anybody in that path, including you know, Greenfield is northwest
of Corning, to go to theirsafe space. And you could tell was
gonna real would be a bad one. So I'm thankful that they had that
coverage and it could have been alot worse, but it was just terrible
with destruction that yeah, And that'sthe thing, Gary, I think you

(06:30):
bring up an interesting point. Whenyou hear people, I mean even us
here in our booth as well asyou know, anybody that's in the media
industry that's trying to give information, you can kind of tell in the tone
of the voice how serious a lotof this stuff is and how maybe not
routine some of it is, andthat I definitely got the vibe yesterday.
Even before that happened, I dida show in Des Moines on our sister

(06:51):
station there and I had immediate localmedia alogist making sell off from w h
O thirteen as well, And youcould just kind of tell the way that
she taught that this is this isgonna be a it's gonna be a tough
one, this is not gonna bea one that this is likely going to
be a system of storms that isgoing to create some level of destruction,
whether it was tornado or not,but definitely straight line wins are going to

(07:13):
be a big factor. And obviouslythe tornado that hit there, they said
that thing was on the ground forroughly forty minutes before it even got to
Greenfield, So I mean, that'scrazy how long that lasted. Yeah,
And like I said, they hadvideo of it. They have a storm
chaser out you could you could seeit was big. It was there was
it was a big one. Yeah. I appreciate the call. Gary,
thanks so much for listening to ustoday. Okay, but yeah, I

(07:35):
don't know, you know, likebetween you and me, Matt, you
know, and obviously had Craig andLucy and Terry Lahy that that were with
us here. You can kind offeel based on the information as it's coming
in, or we notice something onething or another, you know what I
mean, Like when we see fiftyfive mile an hour for the system and

(07:57):
the speed that it's moving, thatis like, that's a pretty big number.
I mean, that is a redflag most of the time that we're
talking severe storms. Even on thetwenty sixth of April, remember that those
are like moving thirty five to fortymiles an hour, not fifty five to
sixty, right, you know. And obviously that spawned a lot more individual
tornadoes. But it's it's crazy tome. Did you see the video of
the semis? There was a videothat was going around on social media of

(08:20):
a couple of semis that were caughton camera. You know, they have
some of those traffic cameras at variousspots on the major highways and they were
moving. That was to the westof Des Moines by Nevada, Nevada,
right. And I know this stuffisn't immediately in our listening area, but
I just want to shine a lighton it because we here in Omaha in
the surrounding area. We know whatthis is like to see this stuff.

(08:41):
But it was a wild video. There was a eighteen wheeler here, right,
and the eighteen wheeler is moving andthrough like kind of a it looked
like an intersection at this highway, and then as soon as it gets to
the other side of the intersection,he stops. Like you can tell,
like he's like, I'm shaking allover the place in the wind. I
don't think it's safe for me tolike stay moving, and so he stops.
A second eighteen wheeler passes him onthe left side of the road and

(09:05):
basically just disappears in a cloud, like you see him drive and then he's
just in a cloud and it's gone. And then you watch as there is
all this wind and you see thiskind of cloud kind of coming closer to
this area and just like filling upthe screen a little bit. And then
before it gets covered up, yousee that first semi just tip over,
blow over to its side. Imean, it's terrible, it's terrible.

(09:28):
There was a death reported in oneof the Iowa Western Iowa counties. It
wasn't eight There County. I thinkit was Adams County, but there was
a death reported on the roadway. Now I don't think that that was related
necessarily to this semi that I sawnear Nevada, But man, it's dangerous
to be out there, and sometimesyou just get caught and we had enough
of a time throughout the day thatwe kind of knew this was happening.

(09:48):
You and I had talked about thepossibility for severe weather probably four or five
hours before we actually got on theair with it, you know what I
mean. So we kind of basely, with the help of our several meteorologists
in our area and around you know, the National Weather Service, we figured
there was going to be something thathappened. But nothing really truly prepares you
because remember here it was sunny untilright when it hit, and it was

(10:09):
gone in twenty minutes. It justI know, it's incredible how fast it
moved through here, how fast itkept going, and how long it continued
to go at that speed and justgathered. So it was so skinny,
like like the system was so thin, but it's packed such power because it
was connected to that cold front. It's wild a science meteorology. It's just
incredible. But obviously, our thoughtsand our prayers with Greenfield, the four

(10:33):
people who were killed according to thereports from officials, including the Iowa State
Patrol, and just hopeful that theycan put the pieces back together because I
just couldn't imagine all right, Likeobviously the death part of this right.
And obviously I don't know if yousaw some of the video that some of
these stormchasers got, but it itdestroyed airfields like they have big air windmill,

(10:56):
wind windmill film farms, windmill farmswhere there's just one of these giant
wind turbines that are generating wind energy, or at least that's what they want
you to think that they're doing. And the tornado comes through there and that
thing just like snaps in half likea toothpick. You see those giant turbines
or turbanes or whatever people call them, and they're on the roadway and they're
like two semis long, like justone blade of those windmills, and there's

(11:20):
three of them up there spinning aroundthis giant windmill that's on the in the
middle of this area, on thesefarms, and this tornado just ran through
it like nothing, just destroyed it. It's just incredible the kind of damage.
But I couldn't imagine having my ownmy own home in this area.
And people in Elcre know what I'mtalking about here, People in Menburg know
what I'm talking about here. Andyour house is just gone, like your
stuff is just gone. It's ina heap, and you're just grateful potentially

(11:43):
that you're alive, and well, not so many people were lucky this time.
It's just it's an unbelievable thing thathappens in our on our planet,
these uh, these tornadoes. It'spretty wild. Two twenty eight. Our
phone lines are open if you wantto talk about this, see how any
things that you are noticing or observing, we'd love to talk to you about
it. You can go ahead andcall in at four h two five five
eight eleven ten, four oh twofive five eight eleven ten. It is

(12:05):
news Radio eleven ten KFAB. It'sinteresting to recount with you all as well.
You can always call us at fourh two five five eight eleven ten,
four h two five five eight toeleven ten. Obviously, that is
dominating the news on a national levelas well. There are some things though,
that are also happening that you know, there are some things that we
can do and talk about otherwise. And there's pretty interesting news internationally today,

(12:30):
and I'm just going to jump rightto it. Norway, Ireland and Spain
say they're formerly going to recognize Palestineas a state. They said this yesterday.
The state of Palestine now is beingrecognized by a total of one hundred
and forty three countries from around theworld. The United States and Canada are
two that do not, along withFrance, Germany, Portugal, Italy,

(12:52):
several other European nations. But nowNorway and Ireland and Spain say they will
formally they formally recognize Palestine. Imean, that's to me, that is
a very interesting adjustment that is made. So what does that mean. Well,
Mexico just last year have decided torecognize Palestine. A lot of countries

(13:15):
that are much smaller said that theyhave recognized Palestine in the last decade or
so. You can go even furtherback in a lot of ways for that
as well, under the Oslo ACourts, which was May fourth, nineteen
ninety nine, there was supposed tobe an independent Palestine as well. That
didn't happen, And now all theseother countries recognizing Palestine separately, even though

(13:35):
the United States does not. Soagain, I think it is important to
note there is a change in theway that many people around the world are
looking at this Israel and Palestine situation. Obviously, this is a very very
small amount of space in our world. Israel and Palestine or Gaza or whatever
these people are calling it, andall these large countries that are nearby,

(13:58):
like Saudi Arabia, like Egypt, there are a lot of Arabic countries nearby
as well. Israel has always feltlike a Palestinian state, or formally recognized
Palestinian state, was a threat tosurvive for them. And again I am
not going to tell you that Iknow diplomatically what that means. Now.
Are Spain, Ireland and Norway thebiggest movers and shakers in the world,

(14:20):
I don't think so. But thereis a very small amount of countries that
know that are not in this groupthat do not recognize Palestine. They are
recognized now in almost one hundred andfifty countries. Again, some big ones
do not. That includes Australia,Great Britain, New Zealand, Spain or
sorry, France. Spain is nowgoing to recognize Germany. Finland still has
not. Several other Central European countries, Italy, Canada and the United States

(14:43):
obviously Panama have not. But thatnumber is getting smaller and smaller, and
you wonder what that means for aplace like Israel, who literally feels like
they are fighting for their lives, even though in a lot of different ways
Israel is angering people around the world. France is a country, even though
they have not said they're going torecognize Palestine as a state. They were

(15:03):
one of the countries that fully backedthe International Criminal Court for looking to find
or seeking an arrest warrant within thegroup for Benjamin Nett and Yahoo and other
high ranking Israeli defense officials for warcrimes committed in this war. They did
the same thing for the Hamas leaders. It's not just one of the others.

(15:24):
They wanted both of them. ButI'm telling you France said that makes
sense to us. We think Israel'sgone too far. You look at all
of these protests. There was astudent protests at a university in Italy,
so Italian students are getting angry. They're saying free Palestine, and that stuff's
turning to violent in some of thesecountries. We're lucky you didn't get more
violent here, even though it wasabsolutely disruptive, and we find it to

(15:46):
be incredibly insensitive and prejudiced against Jewishpeople who live in our country. They
fear for their safety. But yetwe have other places around the world that
are seeing it from a different angle, a different lens. What does that
mean? I don't know, becauseI just heard Joe Biden earlier this week
say that it's insane what the ICCdid. How can you put Israel in

(16:07):
the same conversation as Amaaz And that'sjust that's a lefty liberal Democrat president.
Right. Obviously, conservative people inthis country are like, what are you
guys talking about? There's no wayyou can equate what Israel has done to
what is happening from Hamas, eventhough the International Criminal Court has so I
guess we're gonna find out if isthere going to be more people that are
going to do this, More statesor countries if you will, that are

(16:30):
going to recognize the state of Palestine. Is Norway, Spain and Ireland just
the latest in what will be agrowing and longer list of countries that say,
yep, we are going to acceptthat, we are going to observe
them as a true state. Andif they are, I mean, would
France, Germany? Would they startjumping on here? Where's Great Britain in
all of this? Is the UnitedStates going to be the last set of

(16:52):
people in this group of countries thatare allies to finally have to cave because
we're all by ourself, or thatis that really the moment of isolationism where
we say, Okay, you obviouslyare not on the same wavelength that as
us, and maybe we'll just rememberthis if you guys need us for anything.
We're already sending so much of ourresources over in places like Israel and
into Ukraine. I have no idea, so I don't know. I just

(17:17):
I'm surprised to see this at thispoint. And I guess countries like Japan,
South Korea, Australia, Great Britainat this point are with the United
States and Canada and holding on asbest they can to try to figure out
exactly what is going on because westill don't have a ceasefire. And more
and more videos are popping out offamilies releasing abduction footage when Hamas abducted these

(17:40):
hostages, and I don't know howyou can watch that and say anything other
than those people are absolutely evil.Yet here we are, we're like,
okay, yeah, let's give themwhat they want. Wow, unbelievable stuff.
If you want to be a partof the show, you can call
us four h two, five, five, eight eleven ten. Got an
interesting thing that I noticed about mylife, and maybe we can talk about
this a little bit later about goingto bed. And I also found some

(18:00):
garter snakes that are really taking upresidents in my backyard as well. I
might ask for a little bit ofyour help on that as well. On
News Radio eleven ton Kfab Steve,Welcome to the show today. What are
you thinking about? Well, I'mjust trying to figure out how any rational
nation recognizes the state of Palestine whenwhere they have no borders, they have

(18:21):
no formal government. Israel has offereda two state solution of these five times
over the last thirty years, andwhatever was the current quote quote leadership of
Palestine refused it every time. SoI don't know how these companies, these
countries are recognizing something that technically doesn'texist. Yeah, well, Steven,

(18:44):
here's my biggest thing. And allthese like accords, like these Oslo accords
that they talk about, and howthey're supposed to have certain spots and all
this stuff at the same exact time. How is that the case when literally
all of the most powerful countries inthe world generally speaking, still all these
years later, still are refusing todo that. Exact thing because of exactly
what you talked about. It seemscrazy to me that we're caving into what

(19:07):
is now all of a sudden,a social media plight, which is basically
what I'm seeing now. People aregetting angry on social media, putting a
little Palestine flag. They're saying theyare the ones that are oppressed, not
thinking a word about anything happened onOctober seventh and anything that has been oppressive
toward Israel in the time before andduring and after World War two, and
have nothing to say other than thefact that, well, I know that

(19:30):
Palestine needs to be free, andthis is something I can fight for,
and these countries are just caving intothat type of pressure. That's the only
thing I can think of. AndI'd agree. I think that's fine if
they are willing to accept the twostate solution too, But they haven't been
up to this point. Yeah,I guess her time is going to tell
they're still fighting that thing over us. Steve, and I appreciate your call.

(19:51):
Thanks so much for being part ofthe show. Email Emory at kfab
dot com if you want to talkto me. As Susan says, make
Palestine guarantee that they totally obliterate Hamas, Hesbula and any other terrorists that they
are providing a safe harbor to,then they can be a state that's recognized
by other countries. Legitimately, I'mguessing if Hamas did to Norway, Ireland
or any of those other countries thatare supporting Palestine becoming their own state,

(20:14):
the response would be different if itMassa done to them what they did to
Israel. I think that's fair.I think that's fair. I don't want
to be the I don't want tobe this person that you know, projects
an American perspective onto other countries becauseI mean, let's be honest, we
wouldn't want France or Spain or anyof these places to project what they think
onto us. I mean, we'rethe United States of America. They feel

(20:36):
the same way about their countries too, So I don't want to be that
guy that projects what we think ontothem. At the same time, I
do think that that's a smart idea, right, Hey, if we want
to do this and we want ifPalestine wants to be recognized, and we
want to have a two state solutionall that stuff, then we can talk
about that. If we know onehundred percent under no circumstance are you guys

(20:56):
going to be trying to go inand wreck Israel Israelis and take more hostages
twenty years from now, when thenext generation of fighters decided they're going to
come up, they're going to upriseand they're going to try to run the
Jewish people out of the Middle East. But there's no guarantee that that's going
to happen. And I would betbased on everything we know about the religion
difference between Islam and Judaism and theway that that land is viewed by both

(21:18):
of those places, both of thosepeople, and there's a reason a lot
of the Christians that were even inthat region is they're far removing themselves and
have been over the last several decades. It's just no space for that sort
of thing. If you want tobe safe at least, I would be
one hundred percent in support of allof that. If they wanted a two
state solution, you wanted to havePalistine be its own independent state, but
they have to have a legitimate governmentthat isn't going to be providing this harbor,

(21:42):
this safe haven for a terrorist organizationthat they say is their leadership when
all they really want to do isn'tto help the people of Palestine, it's
to destroy the people of Israel. Those are not even close to the same
things. Gezer says. Scary stuff, isn't it Emory. Violence is here,
and it's been as recent as theSummer of Love, George Floyd rioting

(22:02):
at and burning even here in Nebraska. And all those folks had to do
was pay a fifty dollars fine andtake an anger management class. And that's
a good point too, right.America allows a lot of leeway for people
to be angry about stuff. Andas far as an election year goes,
now, if this was like twentytwenty two or twenty twenty three, I'm
not so sure we'd get a littlebit of the wishy washing this. I

(22:22):
have to give Joe Biden at leasta little bit of a of credit for
what he said about the international criminalcourts which they're looking to arrest Benjamin Nett
and Yahoo for war crimes. Andwe still do have, at least based
on our legislation. For the mostpart, we have said that we are
still supporting Israel. Also, atthe same time they are kind of playing
out on the other side by withholdingcertain weapons and ammunition that they were going

(22:45):
to send to Israel because they don'twant them to go into Rafa and go
in with an offensive there. Theyalso have gone out of their way to
say, oh, well, youknow, these people who are protesting,
they're just exercising their First Amendment right. The people who are protesting in twenty
twenty, the George Floyd stuff, they're exercising the First Amendment rights. I
didn't know that, like breaking andentering and stealing a bunch of stuff and

(23:07):
looting stuff and breaking windows and justdestroying cities. I didn't know that that
was something that we were okay doingand we are allowing even if you condemn
it with words, you are allowingthat by not showing proper leadership or a
situation, that there's going to bean opportunity for everybody to feel like,
you know what, maybe we needto put our foot down and not let

(23:29):
this happen on our college campus. It's a matter of protecting the First Amendment
but also trying to protect the safetyof some of the people who are oppressed
in a lot of ways, whichis the Jewish population. You can make
the argument one way or the otherI understand that some people would be like,
oh no, the Jewish people aren'toppressed. They have a lot of
different things that are working in theirfavor, certainly a lot more working in

(23:49):
their favor than people of color wouldbe. And okay, we can make
that argument. But imagine if thesekind of protests were happening toward people of
color. Could you imagine the outragethey would extinguish that immediately. But alas,
that's not how this thing is working, at least not now. Two
fifty five. We'll come back, have plenty more for you on the way.
