Speaker 1 (00:00):
You don't shave like I shave. Oh how do you know?
Because you leave stuff in places I don't like to
leave stuff.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Oh, I just haven't shaved yet. You don't know a
thing about me. This is all I can do.
Speaker 1 (00:10):
I don't know what that means. That means that like.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
It looks like I did this on purpose. This is
just me unshaven for about like four days.
Speaker 1 (00:17):
Really.
Speaker 2 (00:18):
Yeah, that's right.
Speaker 1 (00:19):
So you can't grow a beard? Yeah, go ahead? Want to?
Speaker 2 (00:21):
You announce it publicly one more time? Well, and demean
me further in the process. I can't do it either.
Speaker 1 (00:26):
It's just it looks like you just have a goatee
all the time.
Speaker 2 (00:30):
Real men can't grow beards.
Speaker 1 (00:32):
I don't know if that's true either. Okay, So anyway,
these little hairs, these little ones that are up by
your nostrils, Yeah, how do you get those?
Speaker 3 (00:41):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (00:42):
Because I was trying to touch that up and I
really irritated the upper part of my lip.
Speaker 2 (00:46):
Yeah, you gotta be careful up there.
Speaker 1 (00:48):
But you get them.
Speaker 2 (00:49):
It usually takes me a couple couple of wax at it.
Speaker 1 (00:52):
I just I can't get them. I don't know. Is
my blade not good enough? Do you get like a
single blade. Do you have to get one of those
really cheap single blades just to like reach this bought
can't get those? I ended up having to, like I
leave a couple behind and I just can't get them.
Maybe I had to recommend my brand. I've never really
had that much of a problem. All right, Well, we'll
have to talk about that at some point. Anyway, we
(01:13):
got ourselves a pretty big news out of the state
of Iowa. We'll talk a little bit more about that later.
And I don't want to spend too much time now,
but I want to get to the audio here, just
if you missed it. Governor Kim Reynolds, who's been the
governor for Iowa since Terry Brandstad, was tabbed to be
the ambassador to China in the first term of Donald Trump.
(01:35):
Back in twenty sixteen, she was the lieutenant governor of Iowa.
Came in to Bower, then was elected for her first
full term in twenty eighteen, defeating Fred Hubble. Was elected
to her second full term in twenty twenty two when
she defeated De Dra Dear dr Di jear de Dre.
(01:57):
That's a tough name to say. Those are ours, you know.
They anyway. She now she's not going to run for
a third full term. Iowa doesn't have term limits on
their governor, so she could keep running in perpetuity if
she would like to. Well, here is the audio. I'm
going to play it in full. You can hear everything
that she said. But Iowa Governor cam Reynolds honor. Social
media posted this and it was a pretty big news today.
(02:21):
Go ahead.
Speaker 3 (02:21):
Serving as your governor has been the greatest honor of
my life, an opportunity that not so long ago I
never could have imagined. When I first entered public service
in the Clark County Treasurer's office. I never expected that
one day I would have the privilege of leading this
great state, and I never would have imagined the things
(02:42):
that we would accomplish together. But Iowa is a place
where anything is possible, and I am forever grateful for
the trust that you have placed in me. Today, I
want to share a personal decision with you, one that
was not made lightly but comes with a full heart
and a deep sense of gratitude. After a lot of thought, prayer,
(03:03):
and conversations with my family, I have decided that I
will not seek reelection in twenty twenty six. This wasn't
an easy decision because I love the state and I
love serving you. But when my term ends, I will
have had the privilege of serving as your governor for
almost ten years, and before that as Lieutenant governor and
(03:26):
state senator. This public service has been an incredible journey,
one that I wouldn't trade for anything. But as Iowans know,
family is everything, and through the years, my parents and
my husband, Kevin, our daughters, and our grandchildren have stood
by my side, supporting me through every challenge and every victory.
(03:49):
And now it's time for me to be there for them,
to help them through the next stage of life, to
watch every track meet and basketball game, to see them
grow before they're all grown. Now, that doesn't mean that
I'm slowing down just yet. I'll be working hard for
you every single day until my term ends. We have
(04:10):
important work ahead, keeping our economy strong, supporting our families
and farmers, defending our freedoms, and ensuring that every Iowa
has the opportunity to succeed. I'm more energized than ever
to finish what we started and to leave Iowa in
the strongest possible position for the future. And speaking of
(04:33):
the future. I have no doubt that Iowa and our
Republican Party will remain in great hands. Together, we have
built a foundation of strong conservative leadership that will continue
to serve this state well. I've seen firsthand the passion
and dedication of so many leaders, and I am confident
(04:54):
that the next generation will continue to build on our success.
Iowa is a special place, and it's because of our
people and values, the hard work, resilience, and the sense
of community that define us. That is what makes Iowa exceptional.
To all of you who have supported me, pushed me,
(05:16):
and worked alongside of me, a heartfelt thank you. I
could not have done this without you. Iowa's have placed
their trust in me, and I have done my best
to honor that trust every day. The road ahead is bright,
and I will always be cheering for this state and
its people. So thank you, Iowa. God bless you, and
(05:38):
God bless the great state of Iowa.
Speaker 1 (05:41):
All Right, that is Governor Kim Reynolds of Iowa. She
will remain the governor for almost two full years. It
won't be until early January that the new governor will
be inaugurated. Do they say that for the governor sworn
into office. Let's just say that, why can't they be inaugurated?
Does a governor get inaugurated? What's the difference does a
(06:02):
governor get inaugurated? I don't really I just see swearing in,
so inaugurating that's like a part the governor's inauguration. Okay,
so some states call it an inauguration inaugurated, who cares,
you know what I mean? And now it's been seeming
(06:26):
like and if you're on the Iowa side of the
river and you're listening to this, and if you're in Nebraska,
this matters to all Republicans for a lot of different reasons.
Iowa has been a real forward moving state because of
how redd it's gotten under the leadership of Kim Reynolds.
Not that it wasn't getting that way leading up to
the President Trump election of twenty sixteen, but it really
(06:47):
was like over the last I mean, after COVID, really
more and more people around the state of Iowa just
like this Republican conservative leadership is actually working really well
for us. We're balancing the budget, we have state surplus,
we like where things are going, we like where we
kind of stand in the United States at this point.
And Cam Reynolds was really well thought of. If you remember,
(07:07):
there are a lot of people kind of throwing her
name out as possible like running mate option type person
for the Republican Party. If you know, certain people would
have won, like Ron DeSantis. She's very good friends with
Rond De Santis. If Ron DeSantis would have won the nomination,
I could have absolutely seen her as a possible VP candidate.
But as she said there, she just kind of wants
(07:29):
to She wants to finish the next two years as governor,
and she wants to be a person who likes her
family and be around her family. Age of cam Reynolds
ready say go fifty four sixty five, So you know,
you have you have two kinds of people. You know,
somebody who gets to sixty five years old, which is
not that old when you're looking at some of the
(07:52):
leadership that we're seeing around the country. But she thinks,
you know, it's time to advance and to move on.
You know who else got to be paying close attention
to this is Rob sand Sure. Rob sand state auditor
of the State of Iowa, and he's been the auditor
for six years now. His term as auditor would be
(08:13):
up in twenty six, but many say he is the
leading Democratic candidate very much. Seems to be kind of
preparing himself for a governor run. Decided not to run
in twenty two, didn't think that the things were climate
wise right, And now with camer Neild's getting out of
the way, no incumbent essentially to run against in twenty six,
I'm certain he is going to run as the Democrat
(08:36):
for governor and that'll leave that auditor spot open. State
Attorney General Brenda Byrd would be the first person I
think of that has ascended in state leadership in the
state of Iowa, and I would imagine she would be
probably the favorite early on, at least right now for
the Republicans. She was also kind of positioning herself. Some
people were whispering is she a possible Attorney general for
(08:57):
Donald Trump. That did not happen. M Bondi got the
job instead. But Brenda Byrd she was going to New
York last spring when Donald Trump was on trial, and
she was going there to support Donald Trump attorney general.
If I were right now, she's younger pop quiz Brenda
bird age ready to go thirty nine, not quite forty nine,
(09:18):
but still I mean, that's a solid age for somebody
who's got good experience while also being got plenty of future,
if that makes sense. And then Rob Sand, you know
how old Rob Sand is. Oh guess fifty two and
a half forty two, you were off by ten plus
years on everybody. Congratulations, Thank you, Rob Sand funny story.
(09:40):
Nice guy. He's an Democrat, yes, I know, but the
really nice guy. I've had nothing but great interactions with him.
I actually sat in front of him at Hinterland Music
Festival one night and his kid kicked over one of
my beers. Ah. He was so apologetic, he was he
was flummixed. We were chatting and then his kid just
kind of like walked in between us while we were
sitting on on the hill and just and just hunted it.
(10:02):
Didn't mean to, but kicked it. He's kind of tripped
over it in my beer, just and I was down
the hill from where the beer was, which was a
dumb move on my part. So my blanket got a
little beard beard up beard. Yeah. Yeah, So Rob Sand, Uh,
you should have saw his face when that happened. He's like,
I'm so sorry. You know, Rob, you could just bought
(10:22):
me another beer. It's okay. We didn't have that much left.
It was fine, but that was that's my my fondest
rob sand memory. Ah, so so far, I get so far?
Two nineteen. We got more coming up. Stick around news
radio eleven ten KFA B and on news radio eleven
