Speaker 1 (00:00):
Celebrating another thousand dollars winner in our keyword contest. This time,
Mike from York was our big winner, winning in the
one pm hour just before we got on the air. Mike,
first of all, congratulations man, how you feeling.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
Thanks, Am Mary. I really appreciate it. I'm doing great,
all right.
Speaker 1 (00:16):
I spent a few hours. You're giving you a little
bit of time to think about this. Have any inclination
about how you want to spend this thousand bucks you
just got?
Speaker 2 (00:23):
Well, I tell you we're getting ready to take some
a trip out to see our grandkids and probably spend
money on the trip. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (00:32):
Now, see that. I love it when people say that,
because it's so easy to be like, well, I got bills,
or I got this that I have to pay for
and I need to replace this, And I'm always like, ah,
I wish you could do something fun with the money.
Glad you're going to get to Mike. Matt tells me
you're from York. That's from York. Mike's Mike is a
law enforcement man. Tell me a little bit about yourself
(00:54):
and how you got yourself to the spot you're at now.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
Well, I was put forty years Then tell York Police Department.
Retired in twenty nineteen. Everybody that or that Matt Fry
remembers has also most since been retired. He probablyouldn't have
any of the new officers down there at all. I
barely know him. Yeah, I came here out of the university,
(01:20):
came he here in nineteen seventy seven and joined the
police department and stayed for forty plus years.
Speaker 1 (01:25):
Wow, that is one heck of a story. So you
probably ran into Matt a few times south there in York, Nebraska.
Speaker 2 (01:31):
Right, I may have. I don't recall.
Speaker 1 (01:35):
That's good.
Speaker 3 (01:36):
Well you might remember it was a ninety three Chevy Blazer,
but I had a ski rack that was stuck on
top of it because the former owner lost the keys.
So surely that car never sped, never did anything illegal,
and probably not.
Speaker 1 (01:50):
Yeah, of course not. Yeah, yeah, I've bet all right.
Speaker 2 (01:52):
So I wouldn't embarrass him in any way if he did.
Speaker 1 (01:55):
Yeah, well, I see, nice enough guy there, Mike. He
could totally say, yeah, that guy he was a troublemaker
over there in York and Matt case right. Well, you
know we all had our moments, all right, Mike, So
what would you tell people who are playing this contest,
because now that you've been a winner, you got the
phone call, tell people what that was like and what,
you know, kind of your emotions were as you found
(02:16):
out that you were a winner.
Speaker 2 (02:17):
You know, I've been playing this game for ever since
it started. I've been listening to kfab since like Stay
nineteen seventy seven, and I'm a diligium when it comes
to playing this game. And I finally won. I got
a call out of nowhere. It says restricted number, and
I thought, do answer this or do I not? I did,
and they told me I was a winner.
Speaker 1 (02:36):
Yeah, And how awesome was that? Right, you know, just
to you know, put in a keyword eventually become a
thousand dollars winner. We had another winner, what was her name, Mardell,
who we had on earlier this week, and Mardell has
won twice in the last like three months, so you know,
you just never know how often you might be able
to win. But I'm glad the time, and I'm glad
(02:57):
the effort has finally paid off for you, Mike, and
we're excited that you're going to get to spend the
money on a trip. Thanks so much for listening not
just to the station, but to us in the afternoons
as well. And congratulations once again, thanks so much for
being on our show.
Speaker 2 (03:09):
I appreciate it so much.
Speaker 1 (03:10):
Yeah, how cool is that little York flavor, Matt Case?
And you're right, he didn't out you as some sort
of troublemaker.
Speaker 4 (03:17):
Well, I don't know what you mean. I mean, he
just didn't have any stories to out me with. You know,
I know we all had our moments, but no, I
sure appreciate. You know, anybody else who grows up in
small towns like that, you really appreciate what the peace officers,
the peacemakers, the peace keepers, law enforcement does for your town.
(03:38):
And so I am grateful to grow up in a town,
a safetown like York that officer Mike was able to
help create for us all those years.
Speaker 3 (03:46):
So I sure appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (03:47):
Oh yeah, how cool is that
