(00:00):
Trump is now making an address rightnow along with Speaker of the House Mike
Johnson. Not sure how long theywill be speaking and how much they're going
to be speaking on This kind ofcame to a head down there in Florida
at mar A Lago. I'm guessingto get Mike Johnson on the same page
(00:21):
as the nominee for the Republican Partyfor the presidency, and we will let
you know if there's anything of notesaid here. But this is obviously in
the fallout of Mike Johnson hearing frompeople like Marjorie Taylor Green that he's not
doing a good enough job. Andthe FISA, the initial FAISA bill was
(00:41):
not great. They did come toan agreement only a two year extension for
it, and then if Donald Trumpis the president, they can rework it
during his term. But we'll letyou know. I'm not gonna bog you
down too much with political mumbo jumbo. On a Friday, I know a
lot of people are excited for theweekend, so we're talk and Friday four,
the Friday for today is events thatyou'd like to see in your lifetime,
(01:07):
and it has to be a recurringevent. That's kind of the caveat
you can't qualify it with anything.I would like to go to the super
Bowl if my team was playing, that doesn't count. If you just want
to go to the super Bowl, though, before you dyn no matter who's
playing, that is something that wecount my four. For instance, the
Kentucky Derby, the FIFA World Cup, Wimbledon, and October Fest in Munich,
Germany. I would really love tobe a part of all of those
(01:29):
things at some point during my life. We're asking you the same question,
and you can call us at fourh two five five eight eleven ten.
Four h two five five eight eleventen. Got Kip on the line,
Kip, thanks for the call today. What's on your mind? I'm sorry,
Kip, you're on the show.I'm sorry. I yes, I've
got I've got four. Fewer beenobviously expressed before. But the first being
(01:55):
the Masters, yeah, of course, the other, second being the World
Cup, preferably in in the UnitedStates, but who knows the World Cup
period, yep. And then oneis the Little League World Series in Williamsport,
Pennsylvania. That's a nice one.Yeah. I have never been to
that either, but I hear nothingbut great things for the people, especially
(02:16):
the kids, in the experience theyget for going, and we watched it
every year on TV. I said, that would be a great graceing to
do. And the last and finalone is kind of a little bit obscure
from the standpoint. I did seeit back some sixty plus years ago,
and that's the hydro boat racing andthe Tri City water follies. You've got
(02:38):
these hydro planes going over one hundredmiles an hour. Wow, circling track.
Yeah, it's down the Columbia River, Richland and the Tri Cities.
Yeah. I used to see thatquite a bit as a young kid,
but I haven't seen it since, but I'd love to see it again.
That's awesome. Well, Kip,I think that's a great one. Going
back to the World Cup real quicklywith you. Are you gonna try to
(03:00):
make it to one of the gameswhen it comes here in a couple of
years if if the dollars allow me, Well, this is the this is
the thing, Kip. I don'tknow how much money it's gonna cost,
but this is my thing. Idon't know what the likelihood is of me
ever getting a chance to go.I'd love to go in Europe, or
something like that where it's a biggerdeal. But so many people are gonna
(03:23):
come to this country for the WorldCup in twenty twenty six, and they're
gonna have forty eight countries for thefirst time ever, so there will be
more teams, more games, AndI just think to myself, like,
there's I can't promise I'll have abetter opportunity to do it. So I
think I'm I'm gonna start saving mymoney now to throw at a couple of
tickets for one of those Kansas Citymatches whenever the it gets a little bit
(03:45):
closer. Because I'm with you onthe on the World Cup for sure,
I couldn't. I I need tosee a game, for sure, even
if you're outside the stadium and watchingon team with the crowds that didn't get
in. Yeah, I mean thatthat'd be almost just about trilling, is
not for sure? Kip, appreciateyou calling in. Have a great day
(04:08):
you as well. Thanks. Allright, That's that's fun. That's the
thing about the World Cup or theOlympics. It rotates around and you might
have a better chance to see thator be a part of one, depending
on where it's at. And that'sjust something you kind of have to weigh
as you are maneuvering yourself and thinkingabout these this big list stuff like you
(04:31):
know, Wimbledon or the Kentucky Derbyor the Masters. They're always in the
same exact place every year, soit's a little easier to plan for that.
Steve is on our phone line atfour, two, five, five,
eight to eleven ten. Steve, thanks for the call. What do
you got? I just want totrump up? Sorry, Steve? What's
(04:51):
you cut out on me? Canyou you hung up? Okay? I
have no idea what he said.Sorry, Sorry everybody out there. This
is the other thing too. I'mjust going to go on like a thirty
second rant here about my phone systemin my studio. So I'm in here
by myself for right now, andI can do this. I'm running the
(05:12):
board, I'm answering the phones, and I'm hosting the show, paying attention
to my screens that I got inhere, and doing the best that I
can to keep the show going. And I appreciate your patience if things don't
necessarily sound exactly the right way aswe roll on here in the four and
five o'clock hour today, But man, the phone over here that Matt has
to generally pick up and talk topeople on is maybe the worst phone I've
(05:34):
ever heard in my life. Ipick up the phone and I answer it,
and we always want you to callin. Now, I might have
a little bit of trouble answering thephone for the next couple of hours.
I'll have to wait till my commercialbreaks. But I can't understand anything anybody
says on this phone. It's impossible. So if you call in and you're
(05:55):
trying to get a point across orsomething, you're trying to have a conversation
with Matt, or ask him aquestion, or I'm answering the phone and
I'm trying to understand what your nameis. Even I have a heck of
a time understanding what people are saying. It is everything to do with my
phone, not yours. But youknow, man, it just annoys me.
(06:15):
You figure, you know, wecould get that fixed at some point,
but hopefully we can. Now,if you want to call with your
events, you can four two fivefive eight eleven ten four h two five
five eight eleven ten. You alsosend me an email Emory at kfab dot
com. We got a lot ofemails I want to work through here,
and I'm going to tell you whatsome people are thinking about their favorite events.
As we keep rolling along. Fourfifteen, Emory Sunger with you on
(06:38):
news Radio eleven ten KFAB. EmorySonger on news Radio eleven ten KFAB,
having as much fun as we canbefore we get to an open phone line
Friday, touch on a couple ofthe big news topics. Donald Trumps still
taking questions along with Speaker Mike Johnson. Who got together. This is a
(06:58):
good thing for the Republican and fora lot of different reasons. You got
to have your leaders on the samepage. I was doing a show for
WHO and des Moines earlier today andI I just this hadn't happened yet.
(07:19):
You had this the infighting over toFaisa and Marjorie Taylor Green saying that you
know, she's basically putting in thepaperwork to try to oust Mike Johnson now
out of the speakership, which isit's just ridiculous. I mean, you
can say what you want about likingMarjorie Taylor Green or what she stands for,
or the fact that she's a potstirr, and I think that you need
(07:42):
people like that for every Marjorie TaylorGreen, there's going to be an AOC
on the other side. And youknow, are are there demonstrative efforts like
constructive at all? It's hard totell, but you know, I,
whether you agree with the politics ornot, just seems so anti constructive to
(08:07):
try to throw out Mike Johnson frombeing the speaker after all the stuff we
went through to get him to bethe speaker in the fall last year.
We didn't have anything happen over therefor three weeks while they were fighting about
that, and now we want torelive that. It's just it's crazy to
me. I don't know why. With that being said, we'll get to
(08:28):
that again. I'm waiting for themto finish. I'll see if there's anything
that's really popping up on social mediathat's super interesting that we hadn't heard before.
I have no idea how long they'regoing to keep going, and I
have no idea what kind of questionsthey're being asked. They're talking about a
slew of different topics, probably justoutlining the basis of their platforms on a
lot of different issues, just toshow a little bit of unity with the
(08:52):
two biggest leaders. You would arguein the Republican Party right now, a
guy who's literally the Speaker of theHouse, and a guy who's trying to
be the President of the United Statesagain already has been he's going to be
running forward in November or Friday four. We've been spending a lot of time
on having a lot of fun withthe events that you'd like to see before
you die. A bunch of emailscame in that I want to read of
(09:13):
people mentioning a variety of events.Chuck emails in and says the Masters,
which that was the real genesis ofthis idea. There's so many people that
say, I just love to goto the Masters even one time. And
I think one of the charms ofthe Masters is it's hard to get into.
It's hard to get tickets to goto the Masters, but it's so
charming and people would go out oftheir way to try to make that work.
(09:37):
He also says big Wave event inHawaii, knock out. The trip
to Hawaii, I've never been.My wife has been a couple of times.
She says it's great. The OpenChampionship for golf knock out a trip
to Great Britain. Yet you likethat you know, my wife and I
kind of think this way too.We are always thinking of ways that we
(09:58):
can incorporate baseball stadium in a lotof our American trips that we take,
because we want to try to seeall thirty baseball stadiums at least once.
Obviously, we're not probably gonna getto Oakland. We're gonna wait till they
open up that new one in LasVegas for the A's before we do any
of that. But there's all sortsof ways that you can kind of incorporate
different things and be multitasking while you'reon vacation and seeing multiple things that you
(10:22):
were interested in. Chuck wraps uphis four with I like the Octoberfest suggestion.
I'm always down for beers and greatfood, and it would knock out
a trip to Europe. That makessense. Patrick emails in and says,
this year, I'm gonna ride Ragbriy, the week long bicycle ride across Iowa.
Being from Iowa, I'm sure you'refamiliar with it. I am.
The last time it was on theride was two thousand and two. I've
(10:43):
ridden it eight or nine times betweennineteen eighty seven and o two. I've
been training for it this year.If you're not physically ready, it's no
fun. This year's course is thehilliest ever. That's pretty cool. He
followed that up with I'd love tobe at the Tour de France. I'd
be on one of the steep mountainroads watching them climb. Now, if
you're into cycling, what those guysdo over three weeks in France for the
(11:07):
Tour de France just wild stuff,he says. Another one is to be
at a dragstrip to watch the topfuel dragsters compete. Yeah, I talk
about horsepower, and he said,I'd love to be on hand for a
major space launch. Space seems tobe pretty popular on this Christine says,
here's my four the return of theSandhill Craneeson, Nebraska. Well we can
predict that. Yeah, Aurora Borealisabove the Arctic Circle. That's like the
(11:33):
pinnacle of northern lights. Viewing theOlympics summer and winter in the Feats of
Saint James in Santiago. Oh okay. I love the different locales, right,
And that was one thing I thoughtabout when I made my list.
My list Lousville, Kentucky for theKentucky Derby. Talk about Wimbledon in London,
the All England Club, I haveOctober Fest emanating out of Munich,
(11:58):
Germany. And then the FIFA WorldCup, which obviously is a rotating thing
that we're not exactly sure where itwould be when I'd see it. Of
course, I'm going to try tosee it, see a match or two
hopefully when it comes to the UnitedStates here in the next couple of years.
Twenty twenty six. Got a fewmore that I'm going to get to
here, and then we're gonna switchlanes a little bit and get more into
(12:20):
kind of a couple of the newsstories that we need to mention, including
student loan forgiveness, which was thething Joe Biden announced, why that isn't
any coincidence. And we'll also talkabout this kind of interesting debacle happening in
Iowa. I don't know if it'sa debacle, but planned parenthoods suing the
(12:43):
state of Iowa and Governor Kim Reynoldsas they tried to push forth the fetal
heartbeat bill, and just give youan update on that. Not a lot
of commentary. We've talked them enoughabout abortion this week, but touch on
a couple of things and then we'lldo an open phone line Friday. Do
the best that I can as Ianswer my own phones here the last hour
and a half the show, sohanked height with me. We're gonna have
some fun Happy Friday. It isfour twenty eight on news Radio eleven ten
(13:07):
Kfab and Mari Sung on news Radioeleven ten Kfab finishing up our conversation though
about the Friday four, which we'vehad a lot of fun with and I'm
glad I brought this one up.It's places or events that you would like
to have on your bucket list, like regularly occurring events that you just would
like to see in person or bea part of at least once in your
(13:28):
life. And my four, forexample, if you're just joining us,
was the Kentucky Derby, the FIFAWorld Cup, Wimbledon, and Octoberfest.
We've had a lot of people witha lot of different suggestions, So back
to the emails, Emory atkfab dotcom. AJ says the Isle of Man,
Leman's twenty four which is twenty fourhour race, legendary race, the
Daytona twenty four hours, and theSea Bring twelve hours. Those are all
(13:50):
obviously the Isle of Man is amotorcycle race, but the others are car
races, and it's all endurance racingas far as I'm concerned. As tough
as it gets, it takes agreat vehicle, it takes great strategy,
and it takes great drivers to beable to pull those things off. So
and you get to see a lotof the world there if you just follow
(14:11):
that up. Mike says, Ilike to go see the Redwoods. Again,
I'm not sure that's an event. He also put the Egyptian Pyramids in
there, but that's pretty interesting.Octoberfest in Germany. Agrees with me on
that one, and then he saidone event that happens too often, though,
I want to be a fired Powerfive head football coach. Well,
there's a lot of money in that, Mike. That's what I hear.
(14:31):
It's about getting the job before youget fired though. That's that's the real
trick. Aaron said, agree withthe Kentucky Derby, the American Rodeo in
Dallas, the Talladega NASCAR race hasthe best infield party, and the Tour
de France Man. I love that, though I love the the the type
(14:52):
of changing in the list. Forsome people, these are all really cool
things. Matt suggests seeing the NordThan lights in Alaska August to September.
You can see him almost nightly. That's pretty cool. Paul emailed in and
said any nighttime NASCAR race at Bristol, another World Series. He's been to
one Burning Man Festival and another OctoberFest. He survived two already and would
(15:16):
like to survive another. There yougo. There's something about beer. There's
something about a ton of beer andjust being able to indulge in yourself and
know that everybody there is there forthe same reason. It's kind of fun.
If that's your thing, it's notyour thing, then whatever. We
(15:37):
have Sean who emailed in he streisandin concert, Barbara streisand in concert,
And that's the thing people like areexcited about, he said, running of
the Bowl, and we've already talkedabout that. I'm not a huge,
(15:58):
huge fan of that for a lotof different reasons. Watching Emory walk three
dogs as big as he is,Huh, Well, I will say this,
so I have, and I probablywill after I get off work tonight.
I have my three greyhounds, thethree of I have one that's ninety
pounds, the other two are aboutseventy pounds, So if you do the
math, that's about two hundred andthirty pounds or so of dog that one
(16:22):
person would be, you know, trying to corral and going in three different
directions. Sometimes if you don't havethem kind of locked in, it takes
some time usually to get him kindof going and locked in in the same
direction. I weigh roughly right now, just under one hundred and sixty pounds,
So yeah, it can be alittle bit of a challenge, but
I enjoy the challenge. And ifyou want to come watch that or pay
(16:44):
to see that, it's one ofthe four things that you'd like to see.
More power to you, man,uh, more power to you.
That's pretty funny, Katrina says,Christmas Market in Germany. Yeah, there
are some knockoff versions of that thatI've seen in the United States. I
think there's one similar style that washappening in Central Iowa. I'm not sure
about here as I continue to getadjusted, but it's pretty interesting. I
(17:08):
did a rod in Alaska start infinish line Solstice at Stonehenge. What an
interesting place, Stonehenge. And thenshe says the bridal falls in Yosemite when
the light lights them on fire.Interesting, I haven't heard that. Well,
I've heard great things about Yosemite. My best friend who got married last
(17:30):
summer. He and his new wifedid their honeymoon to Yosemite and just had
nothing but awesome things to say.Scott emails in and says his four the
Ideita rod Sled Race in Alaska, the Calgary Stampede in Canada, America's Cup.
I think it's a sailing race.That's pretty cool. And I missed
this before they stopped doing it,the Reno Air Races, and he wants
(17:52):
to hope that they start those thingsback up. And that's pretty cool.
That's interesting, and then says Wimbledon. We're on the same page there,
the super Bowl, the International FireworksCompetition, and World Series Game seven,
no matter the teams, but preferablythe Dodgers. Okay, I'll count that
(18:15):
the fact that you said with anybody. Sure, Sure, I'll count that.
These are all great And I reallyappreciate everybody for taking part in the
conversation. It certainly has been alot of fun talking about all the things
that we'd like to see when we'rehere on Earth. Such a short time
for us to be on Earth, and that's why I can't, for the
life of me, understand why thingsare so hostile in the world today.
(18:45):
For instance, this truck that wentinto a building in Texas. The Texas
Department of Public Safety reported that aneighteen wheel or commercial vehicle crashed into the
front door of the Department of PublicSafety building in Brinham, Texas. Over
(19:07):
a dozen injured. One person hasdied. The driver of the truck is
forty two year old Clenard Parker. This is a building that provides driver's license
motor vehicle services, and we wereable to pretty quickly determine why he did
(19:29):
this. This guy, Clenard Parker, was at this exact office just yesterday.
He was denied a chance to renewhis commercial driver's license. They said
he was not eligible. Now wedon't have answers yet as to why he
was deemed not eligible. We're gonnatry to figure this out. But again,
(20:03):
this is a person who is disgruntledabout something. This kind of reminds
me a little bit of the shootingon the campus of You and LV in
Vegas, where it was a sixtyseven year old man who was denied an
opportunity to teach I think it waskind of the plot of that, and
so he went there with a gunand just started and he shot a few
people who were in the administration office. I mean, what are we talking
(20:25):
about, Like this is where thisis sixty seven year old man. This
is a forty two year old guywho I'm sure it's a devastating situation for
you to be told that you're noteligible to any of your commercial driver's license.
I have no idea what his commercialdriver's license status was before this,
but the response within twenty four hours, instead of appealing, instead of trying
(20:48):
to weigh your options, think aboutwhat you could do. You kill a
person, You hurt a bunch ofother people who certainly had nothing to do
with this. You're basically ending yourlife. Because he's going to be away
in jail for a very long time. He's gonna be charged with a lot
of different things. I'm sure becausehe stole the eighteen wheeler he crashed into
this building with. Your response tothat is to be so angry with that
(21:11):
building that you're going to intentionally drivean eighteen wheeler truck into that building.
We have other people that are drivingthrough gates at FBI buildings thinking that they're
gonna break those barriers or gates andbreak in Somehow have we become dumber as
(21:33):
a society? Have we lost theplot so much? And I say this
in jest, I know ninety eightpercent of the people listening to this have
no issues. Only two percent thatmight are the people that angrily call and
email me about a variety of thingsthat either I am or am not related
to whatsoever. You can't rule itout with some people. I don't understand
(21:56):
why we have to live so angrilyto respond the next day by stealing a
truck and then ramming it through herewith the intent to injure or kill people.
I can I can understand why youprobably like if this guy had at
this kind of fuse issue or hadsome sort of record while driving. I
(22:18):
don't know if I would like himto be on the roads either. More
information certainly is gonna come out aboutthis, but pretty stunning stuff to see
an eighteen wheeling eighteen wheeler just flyinto a building intentionally with intent, and
it all all had to do withhim not getting his commercial driver's license renewed.
(22:41):
It's brutal, brutal thoughts to thefamilies and those who were injured.
Just an insane thing in our society. That apparently something that can happen.
If you want to call us,you can't four or two five five eight
eleven ten four l two five fiveeight eleven ten. Got to talk about
the student loan for goodness, we'lldo that here in the next twenty minutes
(23:02):
or so. And I want totouch on another story that came across my
desk earlier this morning about the IowaSupreme Court kind of molling over and having
arguments in a lawsuit between Planned Parenthoodand Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds over the fetal
heartbeat bill that I was trying topass through their government. And I just
want to touch on it. Idon't want to spend a ton of time
(23:22):
on it, but I think it'sworth just keeping an eye on it.
Obviously Iowa a lot of people listeningto our radio station in Iowa, and
you never know, this could besomething that could be adopted in other states
as well. Got to keep lockedin though, if you want to hear
it right here. Four two fivefive eight eleven Ten's a number for news
radio eleven ten. Kfab and MarieSonger on news radio eleven ten KFAB it
(23:47):
seemed like from what I was seeing, you know, I got one eye
on the screen while I'm doing theshow. It seemed like they're just really
outlining their their platforms and a lotof things. But I'll explain as much
as I can from the information I'vebeen able to comb during our commercial breaks
into the five o'clock hours, Sostick around for that. I did want
to touch on the fetal heartbeat billlawsuit that's happening in Iowa right now.
(24:11):
The Iowa Supreme Court hearing arguments plannedParenthood suing Governor cam Reynolds. This happened
yesterday where they were hearing some ofthese arguments. The state's attorney wants the
court to uphold the law, which, if you are unfamiliar, will limit
abortions for people in the state ofIowa after six weeks of pregnancy. There
(24:34):
are exceptions. The exceptions much likeDonald Trump earlier this week said that he
thinks that a realistic bill for abortion, even in conservative states, would have
exceptions for rape, incest, andfor the health of the mother, and
(24:56):
those exist in here. However, the law has the rape limit. You
have to report the rape within fortyfive days, you have to report the
incest in one hundred and forty days, and then of course the health of
the mother is a or fetal abnormality. Those will be things that will also
(25:18):
be considered as exceptions as well withinthis bill. The Chief Justice of the
Supreme Court, though, had somequestions about the parameters of those those timelines,
the forty five days of a windowto report the rape or the incest
in one hundred and forty days, and we know how our legal system goes,
how does that work? Would wouldsomebody just say, Hey, I'm
(25:41):
going to go get an abortion, and I'll just say it's rape and they
have to take my word for it, and that's that? Is that how
that works? Or is it somethingyou know, something else that I am
unsure of, but you know, time is going to tell. I'm not
going to pretend like I have allthe answers on how people might try to
(26:03):
find loopholes within this or what isprobably more likely is they'll just travel to
another state to get the care thatthey need if they are using abortion as
some sort of convenience tool, whichwe know is the wrong way to go
about family planning. You don't justthat that should not be how Like pro
choice is one thing if you explainit in the parameters of rape, incest,
(26:27):
or health. To do it justfor convenience is I think what we're
trying to get out of society.And I don't know, I don't know
what the courts are going to ruleon this, but Planned parenthood trying to
make a case is they say thathealthcare is way more important than what this
bill is allowing it to be.We're gonna talk more news, including Joe
Biden forgiving billions of dollars in studentdebt again. We'll try to uncover what
(26:51):
that means and what it looks likenext on news radio eleven ten kfab
