Speaker 1 (00:00):
A very special guest joining us on our phone line
to start this four o'clock hour. She is representative of
the state of Iowa in the second Congressional District and
is now announced she is going to run for the
United States Senate from the state of Iowa. Ashley Hinson
joining us on the line. Representative Hintson, great to.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
Speak with you.
Speaker 3 (00:17):
Thanks for having me on tonight, Emory, It's great to
be with everybody.
Speaker 1 (00:20):
Yeah, I got the chance to talk to you just
a few weeks ago at the Iowa State Fair, and
I had no real inclination of what the future was
going to hold for you. We were talking about kind
of your strategy, what it's like to have to, you know,
campaign every couple of years and you know, make sure
that you're taking care of your constituents in northeastern Iowa.
What was the you know, did you know even at
that point that this was a possibility for you when
(00:43):
earlier this week when Johnny Erst made the announcement official
she was not running for Senate, that you were going
to try to go after that seat instead.
Speaker 3 (00:50):
Well, I will say this, Emory, when I have a
decision like this, to make the first thing I do
is I call my husband because that's a pretty big
conversation to have as a family. And you know, we
decided very quickly that this was a challenge we were
ready to take on. Talk to my boys, Max and Jackson,
and they're really the reason why I decided to step
up and run. They're fourteen and twelve, and I think
about all the challenges that face our country. Still, I
(01:13):
think we're on the right track with the leadership of
President Trump, and I am running to be his top
ally in the United States Senate because I think we
need to turn the ship around and there's a lot
more to do. And I've heard loud and clear those
priorities from Iowans, and those are going to be my
priorities in the United States Senate, and I look forward
to continuing to work on making sure we're keeping our
(01:34):
borders secure, keeping men out of girls' sports, and continuing
to work to cut taxes for working families.
Speaker 1 (01:40):
I was talking about this on Friday and even earlier
this week, about the ever changing landscape of Iowa politics,
especially and you can extend that to almahon Don Bacon
not running for reelection, Randy Fienstra not running for re
election and instead going to run for governor of Iowa.
You're no longer seeking reelection in your district and going
for the Senate camernal's not running for real life action
(02:00):
in the governor's chair. And then we can assume that
Zach Nunn and Marionette Miller Meeks will both have competitive
races in twenty twenty six in their districts as well.
So I have to ask from your vantage point, this
is quite an interesting you know, change and shift here
in Iowa. How do you best explain what your strategy
(02:21):
is going to be knowing that all of a sudden,
instead of twenty two counties that you're campaigning toward your
campaigning toward the entire state of Iowa.
Speaker 3 (02:28):
Ye, well, my governing philosophy is not going to change,
and I'm very proud of the way I've been able
to serve my constituents in Northeast Iowa. As you mentioned,
twenty two counties, and I've done a twenty two county
tour where I've been in every county multiple times a year.
I feel like we have a great recipe for success,
and that's been laid out by our senior Senator Chuck Grassley.
(02:49):
You know he has shown that if you go and
listen to Iowan's and you do the job that they
sent you there to do, they have faith in you
and they trust you. And so that's what I'm going
to be doing, getting out there and doing a ninety nine.
I'm actually starting that tomorrow. So excited to get back
to Iowa and get out on the road and meet
directly with Iolands and tell them again about the vision
(03:09):
that I have for our state and for our country
and what we need to do, because I do believe
that President Trump is helping to restore the American dream
for ioland. But that fight isn't over, It's just beginning,
because the radical left will stop at nothing to continue
to force that radical gender ideology. We've seen out of
places like California. They give illegals taxpayer benefits and they're
(03:32):
working to destroy our country. And as a mom, I
just can't let that happen. And as I was next
US Senator, I'm going to work to make sure it
doesn't happen.
Speaker 2 (03:41):
Yeah, it's going to be interesting.
Speaker 1 (03:42):
Ashley Henson, Representative of Iowa and candidate for Senate, joining
us here on the phone line today.
Speaker 2 (03:48):
It's a crowded Democratic field.
Speaker 1 (03:49):
The Democrats are really you know, kind of standing up
in Iowa and seem to have a different plan.
Speaker 2 (03:55):
We will see how that pans out. But I know
you're getting back to work.
Speaker 1 (03:58):
You still have a job to do while you're on
the campaign trail, which is crazy, the life that you
guys have to live campaigning while you're also trying to
get things done. What is on tap for people to
pay attention to and the job that you guys are
doing now that you're back in the session for.
Speaker 2 (04:10):
The fall here.
Speaker 3 (04:11):
Yeah, Well, first and foremost, we were able to get
the working Families tax cuts past in July. That's what
I was out talking about during the August recess. We
were able to cut taxes and deliver that relief for
small businesses and family farms. So what's next. We need
to make sure we're continuing to put an end to
the waste, fraud and abuse from federal spending, continuing to
(04:33):
back up the work of DOSE and what they are doing.
And then we need to make sure in the next
couple of weeks that we are working on our appropriations bills.
And that's what I've been up to this week out
in Washington, and we have been voting. I've voted last
night on our appropriations bill for Financial Services and general government.
So we are trying to keep those processes moving forward
(04:53):
so we can work with the Senate to avoid a
government shutdown in a few weeks.
Speaker 1 (04:57):
Yeah, I know you're incredibly busy. I only have a
couple of minutes. I'm going to touch on a couple of
things here. First, the Jeffrey Epstein situation just has not
gone away. In one of your colleagues in the House,
Marjorie Taylor Green, has actually been very vocal that we
need to get to the bottom of this and get
answers one way or the other. At the same time,
one of her big allies, of course, is Donald Trump,
and he's saying this is still a hoax from the
Democrats at this point. Can you give me your perspective
(05:19):
on this Epstein situation.
Speaker 3 (05:22):
Yeah, Well, I think we can all agree that Epstein
was an absolutely disgusting pedophile, and I do think we
need and I do support transparency and accountability for anyone
who was involved in his operation. So I'm committed to
the truth, and I believe this administration is as well.
And I think that If you look at what Congress
(05:42):
has done even this week already on the Oversight Committee,
you know they are subpoeniaans Star's reports. Those are the
suspicious activity reports from banks. So Congress, through our Oversight
Committee and Chairman Comer and the Trump administration, we're really
focused on getting to the bottom of that, protecting the
victims in this case. To imagine, if a dump of
data went out and they missed one line of redaction
(06:04):
in a young victim's life is ruined. I don't want
to see that happen to a victim, but I do
want accountability and we need to be able to deliver justice.
And I think that's exactly what we are going to do,
and I think you'll see that come very quickly in
the next few weeks.
Speaker 1 (06:18):
It's something to keep an eye on. I don't want
to push you against the hard time that I've been
given that you need to leave.
Speaker 2 (06:22):
So let's just put a pin in it.
Speaker 1 (06:24):
You and I we're going to chat again sometime hopefully
the next few weeks, so we can talk about more
of what your work is going to be, not just
on the campaign trail, but in the House of Representatives.
Ashley Hinson we always appreciate the time. Thank you so
much for covering a little bit out for me this week,
and congratulations on your big announcement and we'll chat with
you again soon.
Speaker 3 (06:41):
