Speaker 1 (00:00):
Does anybody ever drink enough water? I don't. I feel
like you can't be too hydrated in a lot of ways.
I carry around this thirty two ounce guy. Yeah, you're
supposed to drink half of your body weight in ounces.
So like I weigh about one hundred and sixty pounds,
that's eighty a day. I would need to drink like
two and a half of my big bottle here. I
don't know if I get to that every day. When
I like go on runs and work out, when I'm

(00:21):
not feeling sick like this, I feel like I do
a better job. Anyway. I'm drinking a mountain dow. Cheers
to you. I'm drinking a mountain dew because I've got
to get wired. I's going to make this last hour
of the show work. Almost didn't come to work today,
but I was like, I missed two weeks. I can't
miss another day even if I am sick. So sorry
if you get sick, but you know you're taking one
for the team here. Yeah, and then I'll just be
sick at work, and then I won't get sick. I'm

(00:42):
going to be I'm going to have I'll be immunized. Yeah,
take that. Fauci five ten a football chatter Husker Buzz,
Sean Callahan is joining us on our phone line. Sean,
always good to talk with you today. It's Thursday, ahead
of game day. Here what I keep looking at the
weather forecast. I know you've mentioned this on multiple occasions.

(01:03):
This is going to be a warm one on Saturday.
How do you think that's going to play a factor
for the two teams when they're out there in the
middle of the hot Lincoln afternoon, No question.

Speaker 2 (01:12):
By the way, I barely recognized you. I was like,
wait a minute, who's the filling.

Speaker 1 (01:15):
Host I'm at I'm a little stuffed up if you
couldn't tell no.

Speaker 2 (01:20):
Yeah, I hope you get to feel beginning that heat
on Saturday. Yeah, that will help get some vitamin D.
But yeah, the temperature conditions are going to be a factor.
Mid nineties, strong gusting wind more than likely out of
the south, which you know, a hot October day like that.
We had a day just like this a year ago.
I believe it was September thirtieth. Nebraska played Michigan in

(01:41):
Memorial Stadium and it was a really really hot, windy
day as well, ninety five degree. But that day, Nebraska
was on the east sideline. Tomorrow they'll move over to
the west sideline, So a big difference for them when
they get out of the heat on Saturday to be
on the opposite sideline with making that move. But the
key for the defense this week will be getting off

(02:02):
the field, winning on early downs, just being able to
get that defense off the field. You do not want
to have long sustained drives because on a day like
this that's going to really cut into your depths. And
I think Nebraskan knows that, and that's why those early
runs by Kyle m nun Gay, the talented running back,
are going to be so important to get them off

(02:22):
of schedule.

Speaker 1 (02:24):
As you get to Thursday, you have a better idea
who may or may not be available for Saturday's game.
At the collegiate level, is there anybody that you think,
you know, we're starting to get dinged up here a
third of the way through the regular season. What is
kind of the general vibe for the health of the
you know, too deep essentially, and maybe a couple of

(02:45):
players that might be playing but may not be one
hundred percent.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
Well, a couple of names to watch. Tommy Hill first,
and foremost has tried to practice this week as much
as he can, but it's a pain tolerance thing with
his foot. Jamari Butler has been battling, not one hundred percent,
but he's giving it his all. He played last week,
not one hundred percent limited snaps. Stepan Thompson did not
travel last week at rule optimistic that he will be available.

(03:10):
I mean, those are the big ones to watch from
a week ago. And you know, the bye week comes
after this week, so a great time for it because
you've played six weeks in a row at this point
after Saturday, and then you'll get a full week of recovery.
And you know, the back half of the schedule you
play six games over eight weeks, where the first part

(03:30):
of the schedule you're playing six games over six So
it is a big difference. And if they can just
get through this week, I think it's going to go
a long way to have that backstretch where you get
the two bye weeks built in over your final six.

Speaker 1 (03:41):
Yeah, it definitely kind of lines up a lot of
home games in the first half, a couple of nicely
timed bye weeks in the second half of the season.
We're speaking with Sean Callahan for Husker Buzz Rutgers coming in.
This is a home game in a moment where Rutgers
is undefeated. They're not a rival of Nebraska by any means,
but this game could you know, actually be a major

(04:02):
turning point for both Nebraska and Rutgers. The winner of
this game still definitely has hopes to make a run
toward the top of the Big Ten Conference at this season.
With that being said, that makes it all the more
important to try to impress potential players for twenty twenty
five and beyond. What are we looking at because I
know there's going to be a lot dozens of players,

(04:22):
potential players, prospects that are supposed to be in Lincoln.
What do you think this game specifically means for trying to,
you know, impress these highly rated recruits that are trying
to you're trying to recruit to come to Lincoln and
play football.

Speaker 2 (04:36):
Yeah, you know, for Nebraska, they're going to have a
number of twenty twenty six is here and that's that
those are high school juniors and that's really you know,
kind of where recruiting's at. Corey Sims, though a four
star USC commit out of Saint Louis. His father, Cory
Sims Senior, played basketball Nebraska. He is going to visit
Nebraska this weekend, So that is very notable. You know

(04:58):
that they're going to have a twenty two twenty five
four star visitor here checking things out. As far as
kids from the twenty twenty sixth class, a lot of
regional top level players, but Bryce Perry Wright, a four
star from Buford, which is where the Riola's play in Georgia,
He's going to be here. And then you're gonna have
two of the top players from the state of Kansas,
Maxwell Robinson, a four star offensive tackle, and then Caden Snyder,

(05:24):
another high level player from both offensive tackles. Nebraska is
not offered either, but you know there are two really
high profile tackles from the state of Kansas. Uh Davon
manwell With is a receiver that Nebraska has offered already
out of Sioux Fall, South Dakota, and then Keenan Harris,
another high profile four star from Saint Louis. So it

(05:45):
is a really good weekend of names that will be
coming in and you know, the three o'clock start is
really nice to get you know, any anybody within about
a six hours drive can make kickoff without having to
leave their house at like four in the morning or something,
So it is a deal kickoff time for drivable recruits
that can get to Lincoln.

Speaker 1 (06:04):
Is this how important?

Speaker 2 (06:05):
You know?

Speaker 1 (06:05):
And you're around this this stuff a lot more than
we are on a close level. How important? And I
only ask this because I play the college football video game,
and you know, when you're trying to get recruits on
campus for a visit. In the video game, it tells you, hey,
you know, the higher profile opponent or more important the game,
the better chance you have of impressing these guys. But
some games you take a loss, it looks pretty bad.

(06:26):
This Rutgers game. I don't know preseason if this would
have been like an ideal game to really try to
flex the muscle of what this means. But this game,
all of a sudden having some legitimate importance. Does that
help try to impress recruits or is a loss here?
Could that be damaging to trying to get some of
these recruits to land with you or do you think
that we kind of overrate the game itself. It's all

(06:46):
about the atmosphere, the coaches, the facilities and things of
that nature.

Speaker 2 (06:49):
I mean that other stuff is probably more important, but
you want to win. I mean, that's kind of cherry
on top of a weekend. You don't want a bad
weekend where after a game, you know, it's not a
real pretty sight to deal people after losing. So you're right,
the wing matters.

Speaker 1 (07:02):
You know.

Speaker 2 (07:03):
An atmosphere here sells itself. A lot of recruits that
have been around the country that were here for the
Colorado game have told that rule. The atmosphere in Lincoln
for the Nebraska Colorado game was far better than anywhere
they've been that includes a lot of big sec places.
So the atmosphere sells itself. You just got to get
him here, and that's a big part of recruiting at Nebraska.

Speaker 1 (07:22):
No doubt. We're going to see what happens on the
field and also in recruiting over the next several weeks.
And tomorrow I'm going to get a game pick out
of Sean Callahan, our Husker insider. Seawan is always thanks
so much for the time. Can't wait to chat with
you tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (07:34):
Pump those fluid man.

Speaker 1 (07:36):
Pump them. I'm working on it. Thank you. Yeah, I
is Mountain do A fluid is you know, pumped that
a little bit. You know, I don't know. What do
you think? Man, is Mountain Do a fluid? Well, it's
a fluid, But is it a fluid? Like Sean mentioned,
it's a liquid, but it's not a fluid. I think
all liquids are fluid. Yeah, but he's pump fluid. So

(07:57):
you're like, it can work this thing out of my system?
Does Mountain dew hell? But that you think? I don't know.
I don't think so. Does it kind of work against
what I'm doing? Yeah? I need the caffeine, though, what
do you you know? You know, maybe Dake will I'm
on that too, Okay, five seventeen, all right, we'll come back.
We got some other stuff to talk about, I promise.
