Joining us on the phone line rightnow is a guy who runs the show
with the Omaha Stormchasers and Union Omaha, the soccer club here in Omaha,
Marty Cordero, joining us on thephone line. Marty, thanks so much
for being a part of the showtoday. Emory, how are you this
afternoon? I fantastic, sir,Good to talk with you. I looked
at the schedule. Got a fewhome games left just this month, got

(00:23):
a big road trip coming up,so if somebody wants to grab some baseball,
you guys have a good three gamesleft this week as you take on
Indianapolis. Tell me about what peoplecan expect this weekend. No, you
know, this club continues to playgreat baseball, second best winning percentage in
all of Major Minor league baseball, just behind the Wisconsin timber Ratlers. So
this club is playing well. We'llbe hosting the playoffs in September due to

(00:46):
winning the first half, and weget the Indianapolis Club for a quick three
game set starting tonight. And itis Sitcom Night as well as Friday Fireworks,
so we're excited on starting this bigthree set. Yeah, you want
to talk about this the Sitcom night? Okay? So Sitcom night. You

(01:07):
got to have a favorite. Ithink everybody kind of has a favorite sitcom
or TV show. Marty, whereare you at on this? Oh?
Wow? I should have a betterprepared to prepare to answer. But you
know, I I you know Seinfeld, you know Classic, you know,
and my wife and I still watchreruns to this day. But you know,

(01:32):
probably more recently some of the ModernFamily in Goldberg, simply because we
have kids, and those are someof the more recent ones that we've watched.
But yeah, i'd have to eveneven go back to the original nine
Court and Cheers, you know, back in the back in the eighties when
I was growing up. Those areprobably, you know, two of my
favorites. Yeah, that's a oneheck of a list right there. Speaking
with Marty Cordero, who was presidentof the Omaha Stormchasers in Union Omaha,

(01:57):
I'm looking at this. You gotthese three games coming out of the Major
League All Star Break, which certainlyis something that we keep in mind.
I see on Sunday Women in SportsNight for the storm Chasers five o'clock start
time against Indianapolis. I kind ofwant to marry the two here. You're
talking Women in Sports Night on Sunday. First part of the question, and
I'll let you answer here. Whatcan people expect and why is this such

(02:21):
an important night to have on theschedule for you guys, Well, you
know, I mean it's an opportunityfor us to you know, to work
with some of the other area clubsthat are in town, you know,
namely, you know, having representativesfrom the Supernovas and from some of the
other you know, organizations that arein town. And you know we're doing

(02:45):
the same thing coming up on Julytwenty seventh, you know, the following
Saturday for Union Omaha. So youknow, partnering with other pro sports teams
and sports teams in the marketplace andpromoting the fact that there are there are
numerous and growing opportunities for young womento play sports, I think is important.

(03:06):
And you know this, this thisSunday is an opportunity to pay tribute
to that. I look at youknow how you mentioned them, You're going
to do a women in sports opportunitywith them, like you said next Saturday.
But I saw with the latest newsfrom the stadium plans for the Downtown
Soccer Stadium that you guys have plannedthat this was part of The plan all

(03:28):
along was a professional women's team togo alongside the owls that already exist in
USL League one. Can you explainthat why that was such an important piece
of the growth of not just soccer, but women's sports here in Omaha.
Well, you know, starting awomen's soccer club is something we've wanted to
do for a number of years.Unfortunately, the dates that are available or

(03:53):
are not available at Warner Park asparabos from doing it here on property.
So, you know, I thinkit's it's it's look soccer continues to grow.
Soccer is really the silver bullet whenit comes to sports at any level,
not just pro sports. Here herein the States and in the metro
women's soccer club would be you know, the professional soccer club would be the

(04:15):
next step. And we will behosting the Nebraska Fears. They're a local
semi pro soccer club that started.I believe this year. I could have
been last, but I think it'sthis year and they'll be here actually on
the twenty seventh, so our soccerfans, Omaha fans will be able to
meet and support some of you know, some of those team members next week
right here at one A part.I absolutely love that. Speaking with Marty

(04:38):
Cordero from the Omaha Stormchasers and UnionOmaha. Speaking of Union Omaha, how
about this a couple of home gamescoming up next Saturday and then the Saturday
following, ten games within league playand two games less than the team that
you're tied with at the top ofthe table right now, so in great
shape. This is coming off theheels of being finishing the regular season in

(05:00):
first place last year, of course, just a couple of years removed from
winning this league. Did this thegrowth of this this team, and of
this coaching staff, and of yourguys' roster, even if some you know,
spots need adjusted, it just feelslike this is the class of this
league at this point. Can youexplain why that success is continued and has
permeated over the last few years sincethis club was born? Not really,

(05:25):
honestly, No, it's you know, and we we kind of joke about
it internally, you know, wewe we we try to hire good people.
Uh. Coach Jm's was a goodcoach. Coach dominiqu Casciato has continued
that very brief tradition, if youwill, and I hate to use that
word but you know, we expectto win, and you know, we're

(05:46):
right now in first place, asyou mentioned, top of the table,
and and you know, for allintents and purposes, you know, the
regular season is ours to win againthis year. There's twelve regular season league
matches left, so you're right,we two games in hand, and you
know we're right at the top,so there's no reason why we can't finish
this off and host the playoffs againthis year. And you know we'd be

(06:08):
looking for, you know, obviouslya different and a more successful playoff run
results. But coach Dom has reallydone a really nice job of plugging some
of the holes with some of theplayers that moved on to the USL Championship
and other you know pro clubs aroundthe world after the twenty three season.
And you know, we're going tocontinue to continue to put our put our

(06:31):
nose down and and and and focuson winning match by match. And tonight
we are at Northern Colorado for thosethat want to watch on ESPN Plus and
it's an eight pm Central kick tonighton ESPN Plus. Love that, Yeah,
So a Friday night game there. Then we talked about it next Saturday,

(06:53):
the twenty seventh, and then thefollowing Saturday, August third, a
couple of seven pm start times onthose Saturday nights at Warner Park's going to
be a lot of fun for thestorm Chasers. The three games this weekend,
plus you have those two games tokeep in mind the next couple of
weeks. How can people find outmore about how to get tickets so they
can be a part of the actionover their order park. Wow, that's
a great question. The best isto just go online at Omaha Stormchasers dot

(07:15):
com and can find all their ticketinformation. Our large Faith and Family Night
concert, one of our biggest nightsof the year is actually tomorrow night and
Grammy nominated artists Blessing Offer, whobecame popular by being a finalist on The
Voice, He will be performing tomorrownight after the six pm game. So
you can get all your ticket informationor Faith and Family Night tickets for Tomorrow
night at Omaha Stormchasers dot com.And if you're like me and you want

(07:39):
to talk to someone for zero two, seven, three, eight five to
one zero zero, and you cantalk to a live person in the ticket
office and you know what, notjust community, but thinking about everybody and
all the different interests and needs andawareness, but also winning. Winning,
that's what these clubs do. Theywin. You're going to see great,

(08:01):
high quality stuff baseball and soccer, regardless of which one you go. Why
not go to both, That's whatI like to do, and Marty Corderol
has his hands in both like somany in that front office do you guys
do such an amazing job in Marty, a true honor to talk with you
on my show today. Can't waitto see you at Warner Park sometime very
soon. Emory, thank you,and you're right the winning and the level
of sport is high. Just lastweek, twenty two players that have played

(08:24):
at Warner Park over the last Xnumber of years played in the Major League
All Star Games. So you areseeing future major leaguers both on the baseball
and soccer pitch. But Emory, thanks for the support, thanks for what
you do for the community, andwe'll see you at the ballpark soon.
