(00:00):
Welcome to Off Day Dodger Talk.David Vasse with you until eight o'clock tonight
here on AM five seventy LA Sports. We have a great show for you
tonight. We have a pair ofsweet tickets to give away to tomorrow night's
game against the Milwaukee Brewers at DodgersStadium. Our coverage begins at six o'clock

(00:21):
with Morongo Casino Dodgers on deck.Tim Kates has all of that leading you
up to first pitch at seven tenwith Rick Monday and Charlie Steiner. So
we will give away a pair ofsweet tickets to our AM five seventy LA
Sports suite coming up at between nowand eight o'clock. And I'm gonna make

(00:43):
you work for it. So it'snot going to be hey, caller nine,
call in. No, you're goingto have to earn these suite tickets
between the Brewers and the Dodgers apossible playoff preview, as the Brewers are
three and a half games head inthe NL Central. Your Los Angeles Dodgers

(01:03):
have won eight in a row andour eight and a half games ahead of
the second place San Francisco Giants.Man, I better get this together before
our next segment because we have oneof the great actors of our generation joining
us who happens to be a Valleyguy and more importantly, a huge Dodger

(01:26):
fan. That is the one andonly Brian Cranston, who is going to
join us in ten minutes. That'sright, Brian Cranston is going to join
Dodger Talk at seven fifteen. Ihad a chance to meet Brian Cranston at
Clayton Kershaw's Ping Pong for Purpose eventa couple of weeks back and couldn't believe

(01:49):
that he actually listened to the show. I know he's a big Dodger fan,
but hey, after Rick and Charliemaybe listens to music on the way
home. No, he stays forDodger Talks. So very humbled that Brian
Cranston lens listens and he will nowbe a guest on Dodger Talk coming up

(02:09):
at seven fifteen, and it's goingto be quite a treat to hear from
him coming up at seven fifteen, and after that will give away the Dodger
tickets to tomorrow night's game in ourAM five seventy LA Sports Suite. This
is going to be an interesting nextsix games. For the Dodgers because they

(02:30):
will be against right now playoff teams. I mentioned the Brewers leading the NL
Central and after the Brewers leave town, the Dodgers will open up a three
game weekend series against the Miami Marlins, who currently hold the final spot in
the NL wildcard race. So apossible playoff preview, a possible first round

(02:53):
NLDS matchup Marlins, maybe Brewers. So this will be a very interesting next
six games. It's not the Rockies, it's not the stumbling Diamondbacks. It's
two real playoff teams right now now. I was listening to Petros and money
earlier today and they were going backand forth with Bill Plashki, namely Matt

(03:19):
Money. Smith was going after BillPlashky, and Bill Plashki said, it's
our responsibility to preach patience or cautionbefore the postseason. Now, we know
the Dodgers have come up short morethan a few times over the last twelve
years, but they do have aWorld Series belt, like it or not

(03:44):
in twenty twenty. They did makeit to back to back World Series in
twenty seven and twenty eighteen, andI understand Plashky and others saying, well,
this is the regular season. Itend to agree with Plashkey more years
than not recently when it comes tothe Dodgers regular season, but this is

(04:06):
very different. You cannot go backand rewrite history. Before the season started,
there were people out there saying theDodgers are punting on this season.
All they care about is Otani signingOtani next year. The Dodgers, their
reign is over. The Padres aregoing to take the momentum from last year

(04:30):
into this year. They've got agreat team. The Dodgers are taking a
step back. Really, the Dodgersright now are on pace for ninety eight
wins. They have exceeded all ofour expectations. And if you want to
call in and tell me you thoughtthe Dodgers were going to win ninety eight

(04:53):
games, I will call your bluff. There is nobody that I have run
into, even up until the lastmonth, that thought the Dodgers can make
a run at a hundred wins, and right now they're on pace for ninety
eight. Nobody thought the Dodgers weregoing to win I shouldn't say nobody.

(05:15):
There were less optimistic people around townthat believe the Padres were going to take
over the NL West. Come on, be honest with yourself. You were
saying it too. You thought theDodgers were in trouble. You were hoping
that they would be just one ofthe best six teams in the National League.

(05:39):
Well, they're better than that. They're making a run at the Atlanta
Braves right now for the best recordin the National League, not just being
another team in the postseason. AndI understand the concern over the Dodgers starting
pitching going into the postseason. Iunderstand it. Kershaw just came back after

(06:02):
not pitching since June twenty seven. It's a very fragile thing with him to
try to keep him healthy the restof the way. I understand that.
I understand you're not fully buying intoLancelinn. But he's a competitor and he's
not scared on the big stage. He has been on a World Series team

(06:23):
back in twenty eleven with the SaintLouis Cardinals. He knows what it's like
to pitch in the postseason. Yeah, the last time he pitched it wasn't
so great with the White Sox inthe playoffs a couple of years ago.
But it's not because he was scared. It was because he was ineffective.
So I understand the hesitation in buyingin to Lance Lynn as a playoffs starter,

(06:46):
but I wouldn't be all the wayout on Lynn being a game four
starter and a best of seven series. But here are my two keys to
the Dodgers starting staff, and I'llname it right now. I've done it
before. Here are my three startersfor the Dodgers in the NLDS. Game
one, Julio Urius and I wantto see the Julio that we saw in

(07:12):
Arizona. And I want to seethe guy that we saw yesterday. After
he gave up a game tying homerun to an also ran in the fourth
inning, he proceeded to strike outseven in a row in a very angry
fashion. Mookie Betts told us afterthe game yesterday. Yes, he saw
it from right field. Julio gotangry, but he never lost his composure

(07:36):
or his focus. So Julio provedthat he can pitch angry, but he
controlled it and he directed it inthe right way. Julio's my number one
starter. Game one, Game two, Tomorrow Night's starter Bobby Ice, Bobby
Miller. His season is far fromover. He's only going to get better.

(07:58):
He's another guy that has shown alot of mound presence in his first
thirteen starts in the big leagues.I got Bobby Miller Game one Julio at
Dodgers Stadium, Game two Bobby Iceat Dodgers Stadium, and Game three on
the road. I've got Clayton Kershaw. You don't want a rookie starting on

(08:18):
the road. Those are my threeand I will take those three over anybody
else's. Now. You may say, what about the Braves, Well,
the fourth game, Bill Plashki's tryingto lead you to believe the Dodgers are
going to use a bullpen game throughoutthe entire postseason. They basically did that

(08:39):
outside of Walker Bueller starts in twentytwenty, by the way, when there
were no days off between games inthe first round alone, There's a day
off between Game one and Game two. So yeah, maybe Game four is
a combination of Lancelin, Ryan Yarborough, Michael Grove. But I do believe
in this Dodger offense, and Ido believe they are more willing to play

(09:03):
team baseball offensively than they were ayear ago, and also more importantly,
more capable. And the Dodgers haveguys like Keik Hernandez and Amed Rosario now
that can combat left handed pitching, which has been the Dodgers Dodgers kryptonite the
last few years. So there yougo. It's not in flowers and sunshine.

(09:26):
There's some reason behind my optimism.Eight six six nine eight seven two
five seventy is the phone number. We have a pair of suite tickets to
give away tomorrow night or four tomorrownight in our AM five seventy LA Sports
suite, So we'll give that awayafter we talk to our very special Dodger
fan guest, Brian Cranston next onM five seventy LA Sports. Welcome back

(09:52):
to Dodger Talk. David Vasse withyou until eight o'clock tonight right here on
M five seventy LA Sports. TheDodgers are back in action tomorrow night at
Dodgers Stadium, continuing a ten gamehomestand it will be a three game series
that begins tomorrow night against the MilwaukeeBrewers and Bobby Miller. Bobby Ice will

(10:13):
be on the mound for the Dodgerstomorrow night. And you never know who
you may see at Dodgers Stadium. You may even see our next guest who
is a huge Dodger fan. He'salso one of the best actors out there.
I don't need to get into hisresume. But also, you never
know when you might run into BrianCranston at a ping pong charity event at
Dodgers Stadium, and Brian Cranston joinsus right now on Dodger Talk. Thanks

(10:39):
a lot for the time. ThanksDavid, good to be with it.
Hey, you never know, youknow, I think I enjoyed a paloma
the most with you and drinking itwith a Mescal dos ombres at Kershaw's event.
Oh it's a delicious spirit and everybodywas. Everybody was digging it.
So it was fun to be outthere with Dose Embres at the ping pong

(11:03):
tournament and they raised a lot ofmoney, which was terrific. And it
was just this always every year. It's just so much fun. How did
you do in the tournament? Istayed at the Dosembres stand, so I
missed you. Well, we canmove on from that, David. We
don't need to dwell on those things. Aaron Paul and I uh played Jojo

(11:24):
Siwa and I forget who were partnerwasn't that and uh, and we crushed
them. We crushed them, butthey've never played before, so it was
it was a bit like uh,you know, smacking a puppy. It
was. It wasn't It wasn't fun. And then we played two other guys

(11:45):
who eventually played. Uh. Ifwe had won the second game, which
we did not, we then wouldhave played Mookie and Freddie eventual champ.
They they eventual champs. Yeah, and I gotta tell you, it's like
it doesn't matter if it's poker orping pong or piddly winks my age.

(12:11):
These guys are competitors. They wantto win at everything and that you know.
Freddie and Mookie really practiced hard whenthey got there, and they were
just really focused. They were havinga good time, but you could tell
they were taking this very seriously. And Aaron and I said, Okay,

(12:33):
next year, next year, wegot, we got. We hadn't played
in a long time, so we'regonna we're gonna brush up a little bit
and be ready for them. We'regonna take down the champs. I love
it. I love it. Iknow. Clayton Kershaw, although he was
a gracious host, you could tellhe was a little upset awarding them the
championship trophy, Isn't that true?I mean he talked about a competitor I

(12:56):
and Barnesy had played as team matesbefore in the in the ping pong tournament
and one so but but you know, it's his own tournament. It's a
little it's a little awkward when heawards himself the trophy. So it was
good this way. How well doyou know Clayton Kershaw Brian Hell, you

(13:18):
know, I met him a fewtimes of course every year at the ping
Pong tournament and it's it's been funand and supporting he and his wife and
this endeavor, Pink Pong for aPurpose is such a great organization. They
raise a tremendous amount of money forfor kids in need. And you know,
as if they don't have enough ontheir hands with all the kids and

(13:41):
the travel and you know, sobut but that's just who they are.
That's who they are. They're they'rereally wonderfully decent human beings, and it's
always great to see them and sayhello and chat and catch up with it.
It's it's been a fun, funrelationship. One of my favorite moments

(14:01):
from this past event was sipping ona paloma with you in front of the
Dos Embres stand and look who driftedover, JD. Martinez and Max Munsey,
and I think they were a littlenervous and intimidated to meet you.
I had to break the ice withyou guys. They well, I gave

(14:22):
him a cocktail and that eased theirconcerns a little bit. It was.
It's so much fun because it's theoff day for the Dodger fans listening.
The ping pong for a purpose thatthe Kershaws do is always scheduled during the
week when the just happens to bea homestand where there's a day off.

(14:46):
So they finished on a Wednesday,They had a day off Thursday, but
stayed home and they continue the homestandfor the weekend. So anytime they see
that in the schedule, that's alwaysgoing to be. When they have the
tournaments, all the players come out. Look, you know, Clayton's like
the captain, So if he says, guys, can you come out and

(15:07):
support the charity, You're gonna doit because he's the guy and you want
to do it. And they hada great time and either playing poker or
playing ping pong and walking around.Great food trucks they have there. It's
really a fun, fun evening.Brian Cranston is our guest on Dodger Talk.

(15:28):
All right, Brian, as wesit here, the Dodgers have an
eight game winning streak. They're onpace for ninety eight wins. They have
an eight and a half game leadover the San Francisco Giants. Are they
exceeding your expectations? They are?In truth, I thought it was going
to be nip and tuck all theway down the end of the season with

(15:50):
the Padres. I just can't believethat the Padres are reeling so desperately right
now. It pleases me being theyou Dodger fan and having having some Padre
fan friends of mine that I canneedle. But I just look at it
and I just marvel with that lineup. But you look at the paper with

(16:11):
that San Diego lineup and you justyou shake your head. You don't know
why they're doing what they're doing.Soto called another meeting of players owner only
meeting when they were in Seattle, and it got their their butts kicked a
little bit and came out of themeeting and then started talking about we're reeling.
We give up, we don't havegrit. We don't and so I

(16:32):
don't see San Diego keeping this grouptogether. I don't see them getting into
the playoffs. They're just they're justnot coalescing around the captain. They need
someone to really really guide them andget them out of their funk, you
know. And San Francisco actually wasa kind of a surprise to how well

(16:55):
they played. But it looks likeour boys in Blue are pulling away.
I don't want to be too cockyabout it. I was at the stadium
yesterday to see Julio performed really well. Two mistakes, and he knew it.
I could see his body language assoon as he threw it. He
braced and the guy hit the twoon home run to tie the game at

(17:15):
the time, and he was badat himself. The next batter came up
and hit a comebacker to Julio. He grabbed it and in a very violent,
angry way and threw it at firstreally angrily, and then screamed.
It was great to see that. You know, he knew he made a

(17:36):
mistake. It's not the end ofthe world. He's got a great team
behind him that will come back.No one panicked, but it was great
to see that he knew what hedid. He went on to strike out
twelve guys. Come on, terrificperformance and we need him. We need
him there. It's going to beinteresting on Wednesday. See Clayton pitch is.
That's just only a second time back, isn't it. Yeah? Yeah,

(18:00):
on the mount Yeah. Hey,I was wondering, when you're sitting
in those seats watching Julio, didyou realize he struck out seven in a
row. I didn't at the time, but I realized when it was over,
I said, man, how manystrikeouts? Yeah, it was.
It was pretty incredible. He's,to me, the key to the Dodgers

(18:23):
success in October. They obviously canwin the World Series if Julio doesn't carry
them there. But I believe they'recounting on him to carry them to the
finish line. They need that horse, and he seems to be the best
candidate for that. He certainly hasbeen, and we absolutely need him.

(18:45):
Look that there's no secret the Dodgershave been hurt badly this year with injuries.
And I don't know if it seemsthat way to you, but across
the majors, doesn't it seem likethere's been more were injuries then I've seen
before. Everyone seems to be hittingthe aisle at some point and it's decimating

(19:08):
it. You know what we seewhen it gets down. We've got almost
you know, almost us at sixsix seven weeks to go before the end
of the season. So it's stilla long way to go. And then
it depends on those two things. Can you stay healthy and can you get
hot. We saw that last yearwith the Phillies not the best team in

(19:32):
the East. They were not betterthan the Padres, they were not better
than the Dodgers, they were notbetter than several other teams. But they
got hot and they happened to behealthy at that time and they went all
the way to the World Service. That's what Freddie Freeman reminds me of every
day virtually when I get a littletoo excited. He said, Hey,
it's about who's hot at the righttime. I do agree with that to

(19:55):
a certain extent, but I dobelieve that a mindset, mentality does matter
when you do get hot. AndI thought last year the Dodgers treated that
NLDS series like it was just anotherregular season trip to San Diego. But
I feel like this year they're nottaking that for granted and are not going

(20:15):
to allow that same type of complacencyto set in this year. That's got
to be the lesson. It waspainful last year. We had one hundred
and eleven wins and we just gotour butts handed to us down there,
and it was awful, and itcan happen again. I mean, but

(20:40):
baseball is a funky game. Man. You don't know exactly what's going to
happen. Anyone can turn up andplay over their heads for a short series
and you could get your team intothe next round. Well, hopefully I'll
see you at the parade at theend of this season. David, slowdown,

(21:00):
blow Now, I'm with freddie slowdown. Come on. We've got
we've got two do much better teamscoming up now than we've played in the
past this week, so it's goingto be a better test to see the
Brewers and the Marlins in town hereand hopefully we can win the series.
Just remember this, there's something aboutthis team when you when you're at a

(21:25):
playoff game in October, there's somethingabout this team that makes me believe I
like that at Hey Brian kranstate,we have something else in common. I
just realized doing some homework on you. You're a valley guy. I grew
up in Woodland Hills, went tograde school in Canoga Park, and you're
a proud Canoga Park hunter. Iam indeed. Wow, that is amazing.

(21:52):
I knew I liked you. You'rea valley guy. Oh my gosh,
valley guy. And by the way, when I was when I was
five years old, I went innineteen sixty one, I was My dad
took my brother and I to theLa Colosseum, who watched the Dodgers play
and it was the first game Ihad ever been to in the coliseum.

(22:15):
And I don't remember a lot aboutit. I was five years old,
but I do remember one thing. There was a player for the Dodgers who
go by the name of Wally Moon, and I thought, Wow, what
a great name. And I've neverforgotten that name, and later I remember

(22:36):
reading about it and what he wasable to do is hit those moonshots over
the short porch in left field,as the configuration of the of the Colosseum
demanded at the time, and Iended up calling those moonshots and then nineteen
sixty two, going to my oneof my first games in the first homestand

(22:57):
at the Dodgers day of the new, brand new Dodger Stadium. Now we
look at it and it's the thirdoldest stadium still in use. It's amazing.
Is that the moment that you fellin love with the Dodgers? I
know you said you were a littleyoung five years old at the coliseum,
But was that game in sixty twothe moment that you fell in love with

(23:18):
the Dodgers? There is, Yes, there is something. There was just
something about the ambience, the beingaround other people who are cheering, a
happy, eager tenth, the energyof it, and the listeners I know
will agree with me. We hadthe best announcer of all time. And

(23:38):
then Scully's voice, even when Iwas five and six years old and I'm
sixty seven now, so I've beenlistening to him all my life. And
God rest his soul. What abeautiful, beautiful man and what he has
done for not just Dodger fans, but for Los Angeles and fans in general,

(24:00):
and in his spirit we continue on. Yes, I just remember,
and I know you experienced this aswell. Brian. We all talk about
it. People would bring their transistorradios to listen to Vin, and even
players will say that they would hearVin's voice calling the action while they were
playing. He's yeah. Because therewere so many transistor radios in Dodger Stadium.

(24:27):
Everybody was listening. And I remembergoing to school because a lot of
the playoff games and World Series wereplayed during the day back when I was
in grade school, and I wouldsneak my transistor radio in and my one
ear plug and would I would popeput it in my jacket pocket, and

(24:48):
I would put my hand covering myear so they couldn't see the beer plug,
and I would go through my sleeveand into my tacket and I would
be listening to the World Series.I should have been doing some kind of
work in my class. Love it, I mean, I think we can
all identify with that. I usedto do that for spring training games when
when they would only be broadcast onradio. I would do the same for

(25:11):
spring training games. I'm the sameway and can't get enough of it,
can not get enough of it.Before I let you go. You did
such a great job of narrating oneof the great seasons in Dodger history,
the nineteen eighty eight Dodgers. Doyou remember where you were when Kirk Gibson

(25:33):
hit his home run? I was. I didn't have any tickets to the
game. I was at my sister'shouse. She was having a party,
and there was only myself and oneother person who was watching the game because
everybody else was outdoors a party, and and it looked bleak and it was

(25:57):
We're both sitting back and it's like, oh, this is this is the
classic hail Mary. What do youdo? But there he comes and I'll
never forget the call. Then scutscullies call, you know, in a
year that was so improbable, theimpossible happens, and it was just it

(26:19):
was it was so stunning. AndI think those those are one of the
times when you remember exactly where youwere when you saw something remarkable like that,
and that catapulted the Dodgers in theirsensibility and their spirit to be able
to go on and win that WorldSeries. And I was so great then

(26:41):
to be asked to narrate that.It brings tears to my eyes when I
hear it, when I watch it, when I read it, When I
first sent the copy to me andI read it, I was my eyes
were welling up. It was justI was so proud an honor to be
able to be asked to do that, and it's it's a really good film.

(27:04):
And I encourage everybody to find thatand to step back little nostalgic and
it's a beautiful, beautiful thing. That's what baseball is, very nostalgic,
and it connects us to so manydifferent moments in time in our lives.
And Brian can't thank you enough forjoining us and sharing your fandom of the

(27:25):
Dodgers and where it all started. And we could keep going all night long.
We'll do that another time with someDose own breasts. That would be
fun. That'll be great. Thankyou, David and go Blue. Now
that was special. Brian Cranston,Wow, big Dodger fan, big listener
to Dodger Talk and the radio station. So thank you to Brian. And

(27:47):
a special thanks to my girl wineMary from Constellation Brands who walk me over
to the dose Ombre stand and introducedme to Brian Cranston. And that's when
I brought over Muncie and j D. Martinez and man where they freaked out
and they were freaked out because theycouldn't believe Cranston actually listened to the postgame

(28:08):
show. So take that, Muncieand j D. Martinez. Thanks again
to Brian Cranston for joining us tonightthe Dose Embrace. It is the real
deal, great mescals, so Istrongly encourage you to have it. We
got more Dodger Talk until eight o'clocktonight eight six six nine eight seven two

(28:29):
five seventy and we still have apair of tickets to give away to tomorrow
night's game in our M five seventyLA Sports Suite. David Vasse Dodger Talk
with you until eight o'clock right hereon AM five seventy LA Sports. That
was special man. Whenever I tellsomebody that Brian Cranston was coming on the

(28:52):
show, they started freaking out.Went to dinner with my in laws over
the weekend, my wife tells themBrian Cranston's coming on. They start taking
a lot of interest in me.Spend twelve years. Took Brian Cranston coming
on the show to take some interestin me. Thanks again, Brian appreciated.
Eight six six nine eight seven twofive seventy is the phone number Dodgers

(29:18):
back in action tomorrow night at DodgersStadium, hosting the Milwaukee Brewers. Our
coverage begins at six o'clock with MorongoCasino Dodgers on deck. First pitch between
Bobby Miller and Adrian Houser. Atseven ten, let's go out to the
phones. We have a full boardof calls, and I have a pair
of tickets to give away to tomorrownight's game in our AM five seventy LA

(29:41):
Sports suite. So we do havea full board of calls right now.
I'm looking at Armando, Fabian Angel, Joe Edward, Gilberto Todd, and
Isabelle. Not only do I wantyour hot Dodger take, but since it
is the Brewers, and since itis almost the one year anniversary of going

(30:04):
down Burnie the Brewers slide and breakingsix ribs and my right wrist, I
want to hear your best holy crap. If you give me a good holy
crap, you win the tickets totomorrow Night's game in our M five seventy
LA Sports suite. Let's start outin Long Beach. Todd, You're on
Dodger Talk, Hi Todd, how'sit going, Dave? How are you

(30:26):
doing to anybuddy, everything's great.Just talk to Brian Cranston. Can't get
better than that. True, true, he was good. Listen, Dave,
you're talking about the starting pitching.I heard Pasky come on talk about
no starting pitching. But I don'tunderstand what seems to be the problem that
everybody seems to miss. And thiswhen it comes to playoff baseball, David,

(30:49):
we all know it's about the bullpen. It's about making the decisions at
the right time. We have Uriuswho pitched in the postseason last year,
he only went five innings. Wehad Kershaw pitch in the season last year,
only win five innings. We hadScott Anderson, who's pitching great,
gave up two hits only what sixinnings. So the bottom line is the
games are one in the seventh, eighth, and ninth inning nine times out

(31:11):
of ten in postseason baseball. Sothe starting pitching is it really a factor
for us, because what it comesdown to is Dave Roberts making the decision
of when to pull, when toput in a guy out of the bullpen.
Making those types of decisions had havetremendous effects on the game, in
my opinion, because either he doesn'tleave a guy in long enough, or
he leaves a guy in too long, and what happens is we run into

(31:34):
a situation where, you know what, if a guy's hot, a pitcher's
hot, Dave's got a plan thatwe're gonna go to the bullpen. We're
gonna play it like we did duringthe regular season, and playoff baseball is
a whole different animal than posts, than the regular seasons. We might as
well just throw off the regular season. When we get to the postseason,
it's all about seeding. As faras the regular season goes. Home field

(31:57):
advantage, yes, we try toget, but when Paul season baseball starts,
the regular season has nothing to dowith what happened, all right.
I think he brought up a goodpoint. You're right, the bullpen matters
a lot. But I am afirm believer, no matter what has taken
place over the course of the lastseven eight years, that if a guy's

(32:19):
going well, and I think we'veseen this with Tyler Anderson last year,
he should have stayed in, andrich Hill numerous times should have stayed in.
You can't go off a pregame scriptand not look with your eyes,
and that takes a lot of couragefor any manager. Because Dave Roberts has
bosses, they have a lot ofinformation they've provided him, and if he

(32:40):
goes off that pregame script and itdoesn't go well, he's going to have
to answer answer for it, notfrom the fans or you and me,
but when he goes back into hisoffice, they're gonna say, hey,
what happened. I thought we saidtake this guy out after two times around
the order. So that's the fineline that Dave Roberts walks, and I

(33:06):
just hope he has the ability tobe able to read and react as the
game is going on. But you'reright, the bullpen is a big part
of it, Todd, So thankyou, thank you for the phone call.
Appreciate it. Look and the depthof the Dodgers staff gives them the
luxury of putting these guys in thebullpen and coming out of the bullpen.

(33:30):
Some guys do it better than others. I do feel like adding Joe Kelly
was a huge addition to this bullpen. If he's healthy, I feel like
him going on the I L yesterdayis more of a load management situation.
But you can put starters in thebullpen that can give you length. And
a guy like Ryan Yarborough, Ifeel like he's going to be very valuable.

(33:52):
He may not be a household name, but he's going to be valuable.
Let's go out to Gilbert though andSan Diego. You're on Dodger Talk.
Hi, Gilberto, Holy crap,David, that was a good one
that puts you in the running.Hey, David, I just wanted to
say what you were talking about.I know the postseason is a different monster.

(34:14):
But this team this year I've calledyou before. The rookies carry us
in the first half. The movesthey made are great. And one thing
that I do believe this is aspecial team, like you say, I
can feel it. And one thingthat has to be recognized in Major League
Baseball with all the writers or whatever, Lasky, whatever, Dave Roberts has

(34:37):
to be considered for manager of theYear. And I'll give you another nugget.
On March twenty seven, I calledTony Guyn Junior's show for the trivia.
He knows I'm a Dodger, sowhen he when I got into the
phones, he goes, so,Hilberto, what do you think about your
Dodgers finishing second? And I gotyou know, Tony. Thank that nobody

(35:00):
wins on paper, they still haveto play the games, and boy has
that come true for the Sorry Patress. It's incredible losing again tonight. I
think Tony gwyn Juniors Consato tonight aswell. They're losing your berthough. Hold
on, you're in the running forthose tickets and you may have an edge
for standing up to that bully.Tony Gwynn Jr. Let's go out to

(35:22):
Mission Hills. Just kidding, Tony'sa great guy. Mission Hills. Edward,
you're on Dodger Talk, Hi,Edward. Holy crap, I'm on
the air. Holy crap, how'sit going d V? But yeah,
I was listening earlier, right beforeyour interview. You're right the Dodgers.

(35:45):
I can say this. I hadno expectations when the season started, all
right. My biggest question mark wasthe pitching, not the starting but also
are bullpens. But holy crap, they have exceeded my expectations. I think
everyone's expectation. If everyone thought, example, Vargus was suppos would be our
second basin prospect, and I don'tknow where it was outman. Vargus is

(36:06):
in the minor leagues, and thatwe had outmen out there. But listening
to you, it calls yes,I was a big question mark with me
too, is in the postseason? Is our bullpen all right? Who is
after the starter goes out? I'veseen it too many years eighteen, nineteen
twenty one where we don't have aconsistent, lockdown bullpen guy that can just

(36:28):
go in one, two three.Last time I saw a two man bullpen,
two headed monster when we had Jentsin Themorrow. But yeah, that
was a That was a great bullpenwith Mada part of that bullpen seventeen,
eighteen and nineteen. And this yearI call me crazy. I feel like
the Bazuka has to step up thispostseason to get the ball to Evan Phillips.

(36:52):
I know that's a risky proposition.He doesn't get a lot of swinging
this, but Bazuka is one ofmy candidates to step up and take the
next step in his career. Wetalk about Julio being the guy, he
has been the guy. The Dodgersneed the Buzuka to continue his really good
regular season. You're in the running, Edward. Let's go out to Long

(37:13):
Beach again. Joe, you're onDodger Talk Hi, Joe Hey, Holy
crap, David. That was likelove Songs on the coast. Holy crap.
Well, the reason I was stillconcerned about this year was the Diggers
haven't started or brought up so manyyoung players since a bunch of guys named

(37:37):
Buckner, Lopes, Russell, SayGarvey for Shure, et cetera, et
cetera. And if you remember thoseyears when they first came up, when
Garvey was a third and Russell wastrying to learn second base and Bobby Valentine
was running around running the fences inthe outfield, they were terrible. Yeah,

(37:57):
but you know what, if youwant to come to more recent history,
they had guys like Cody Bellinger, kekay hernandez Jack Peterson get their first
taste of postseason action and they deliveredas well. Oh I get it,
I get it. I get they'vedone this before, they've done this before.
Well, you know, I thinkthat they've definitely exceeded expectations, and

(38:22):
I'm glad they have, you know, but I'm just saying there was a
time right there, maybe twenty fivethirty games in I'm thinking, oh,
no, are we going back tonineteen seventy one? Seventy two. Who's
gonna step up? So I'm gladthey did it, and I hope they
can keep doing it in the inthe playoffs. All right, Joe,
We'll see you down at Phil Traineesin Long Beach one day. Thanks a

(38:42):
lot for the phone call. Eightsix six nine eight seven two five seventy
is the phone number. Let's goout to Armando in Norco. You're on
Dodger Talk. Hi, Armando,Lay David Horrible. We got a bunch
of rookies out there. We gotwhatting Cramps did on on to an amazing

(39:08):
show. Amazing show. All right, Armando, I liked, Uh,
that was a nice rendition. I'llput you on hold. Eight six six
nine eight seven two five seventy isthe phone number. In case you're just
tuning in. I do have apair of tickets to give away to our
M five seventy LA Sports Suite fortomorrow night's game between the Dodgers and Brewers.

(39:30):
So hot Dodger takes plus their renditionof Holy crap, since it is
almost a year ago where I sacrificemy body for sports Net LA and AM
five seventy LA Sports. Let's goout to La on Hell. You're on
Dodger talk. Holy crap, crap, holy crap, holy crap. Oh

(39:52):
I thought you were better. Youdid the sound effect very good, very
good. Hey, my man,David's light and eighties. Man, But
you this decided to do it outthere? What I'm gonna actually asked you?
Man? It appears that the daughtershave been setting themselves up all year
to get Oltani or have a shotat Altani last season, right, But
like he just talked with Crampton,we have to ride Julio, you know,

(40:15):
like gu Yoda. So what I'mgonna know is, do you think
like that the fact that he didn'tget an extension or that, you know,
things like that affecting him the firsthalf of the season. Yeah.
I actually think free agency has playeda part in his I don't want to
say subpar season, but he hasan higher r and higher whip right now

(40:36):
this year than he's ever had inany other full season. And I feel
like after getting beat up pretty badlyin Baltimore, he's kind of just shaking
himself and talk to people in hiscircle, and ever since then he kind
of looks more like the Julio thatwe know and love. And I think
we saw it in Arizona, andwe saw it beginning in the fourth inning

(40:59):
yesterday after he gave up the gametying home run. I think we saw
yesterday and he was below ninety pitches. I almost thought it was Fernandomania weekend
and he was at eighty eight pitchesand I thought he was about to go
the full game yesterday. But thenthe doc came in and I fully understand
it. He goes off on ahigh note, and you'd love to see
it. But do you think that, like any of this, and you

(41:21):
know, not giving him the properlove, just thinking about trying to get
Altani next season, that it mighteven affect us having a shot at him
in case he missed out on Altany. I don't think so. I think
he wants to be here, buthe wants to be respected as well by
the organization. And I hate tosay it, nowadays, a respect comes
in the form of contracts when you'rea free agent. So that's the way
you're going to keep him on.Hell, congratulations, you have one the

(41:46):
suite tickets for tomorrow night's game betweenthe Dodgers and Brewers. We will see
you out at Dodgers Stadium and wewill see you in our AM five seventy
LA Sports Suite tomorrow night. Ohmy man, David Man for grateful for
this, man. I appreciate youso much. Man, this is awesome.
