your most prized possessionets.

Speaker 2 (00:18):

Everybody.

Speaker 2 (00:19):
Welcome to I on the Ball hero Fox Sports fourteen fifteen.
I'm Steve Rivera in today is my usual fighty guy,
former guy Jiggensaws.

Speaker 4 (00:31):
I like to think myself as your partner in crime
because we have committed crimes together.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
What just.

Speaker 3 (00:41):
Not what's in that right?

Speaker 4 (00:42):
Not literal crimes, not like against the law crimes. But
we've done some things that people kind of shake their
head at.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
Did you talk about it? I had bet the Dodgers
find the one.

Speaker 4 (00:52):
Well, you let me in here to do it, so
you're you're a culprit.

Speaker 3 (01:00):
He doesn't know what to say. I don't know what
it's okay. The statue of limitations A.

Speaker 2 (01:09):
Welcome to my last show. Right, there's there's ready. We
can always delete that, right. Yeah, I had to puss.

Speaker 4 (01:19):
But I'm working too hard.

Speaker 2 (01:25):
I'm working.

Speaker 3 (01:26):
I'm working too hard. I told my sister today that.

Speaker 4 (01:29):
You know people are because you know, people just always
asking are you retired? You know, if I haven't seen
him in while you retire. Said no, man, I'm not retired.
I don't want to retire. I don't know what I
do with myself if if I were to retire today,
you feel I wanted to retire.

Speaker 2 (01:43):
Really, what you do?

Speaker 4 (01:44):
I'm just busy, Steve. You know, I've got all this
work going on with the Sugars, Culls and the Rattlers.
You know, I took that part time job a while
back with the Big r Front and now they're putting
me to work. You know, gett slowed down. But now
there's a bunch of stuff going on. I still got
my breakfast club that I work. There's all these things
going and I'm busy as hell, and it's like a
real job.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
Be careful what you wish for, you know.

Speaker 4 (02:04):
Then I'm trying to run you know, football polls and
golf pools and stuff, and everything's in the way.

Speaker 2 (02:09):
Oh God, give me that violins in my bag over there.

Speaker 4 (02:16):
And when I leave here, I've got to go to
my daughter's house because she's moving this weekend.

Speaker 2 (02:22):
Which Alana, she's moving.

Speaker 3 (02:24):
She got a job. Well she's been at the U
of A. But she no, she's moving.

Speaker 4 (02:28):
She's just moving in with her uh, with her girlfriend
and they're getting a place over by the U of A.

Speaker 3 (02:34):
And you know, it's my kids, every one of them.
There's been a move.

Speaker 4 (02:41):
Every year for like the last ten years, somebody's moved.
But this time I said, I'm not I'm not loading
trucks and stuff. Said, go find yourself another Mexican.

Speaker 3 (02:55):
Pick up. I'll pack this.

Speaker 4 (02:57):
I'll help you pack the stuff, but I ain't move
on the third floor of an apartment. And I'm like,
I'm not doing that. I am not doing that. That'll
age you quick. You'll never go back to work. Really.
So she has, she's gone and hired some folks to
help with that part. I got to go help her pack.

Speaker 2 (03:13):
Love of a dad, yeah, Hispanic dad.

Speaker 3 (03:16):
Yeah, it's better than having to move by yourself.

Speaker 4 (03:19):
I told him when when when my daughter Rachel moved
to San Diego that, you know, last summer, I said,
that's it, that's it, that's it, that's it. That's my
last move. And you're kind of holding to that right now.
It's sort of you know again, I'm gonn. I'm gonna
help with some stuff, but I ain't. As if you
ever saw the scene and uh, you see the movie
what is it called?

Speaker 2 (03:41):
Here we go?

Speaker 3 (03:42):
This is what we do for Love of the Game.

Speaker 4 (03:45):
Love of the Game with with Kevin Costner, and they
show the scene where he and his buddy, you know,
he's helping to move because he signed with the Yankees
and they're moving and his and the guy's wife comes
up and says, you know, what's his name?

Speaker 2 (03:57):
Billy?

Speaker 3 (03:57):
Billy, Billy?

Speaker 2 (03:58):
Are you gonna help her?

Speaker 5 (03:59):
What?

Speaker 4 (03:59):
He goes, and he stands up, he goes, He goes,
I'm not lifting that. What are the pillows? I'll carry
the pillows. Yeah, that's me.

Speaker 3 (04:06):
I ain't moving no boxes, but I'll move some pillows.

Speaker 2 (04:09):
I'm glad you didn't say planes, trains and automobiles. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (04:12):
Yeah, that's not a pillow.

Speaker 4 (04:15):
No, no, no, you know, because of that scene, I
can only watch a movie one time.

Speaker 3 (04:20):
It kind of gross me.

Speaker 2 (04:23):
Well, well, I at the Fight of the Show. It's
already started way off the show, after rails, rails, right
off the shizzle or whatever. I don't know, was that Okay?
No cool, today's show. Let me just say get some
words out there. Mike Vader at three seventeen, let's got
a lot on his plate too. You've got the Mexican
Baseball Fiesta coming up, a Ludelson camp coming and then
at four seventeen high school season starts here. One of

(04:45):
the better teams I think from last year, the last
couple of year moretta. One of our guys who's been
on regularly or for high school study is coach Philip Stewart,
right coach and you and you know him too, right
You did a story on him.

Speaker 3 (04:58):
Yeah, I did a story on him a couple of games.

Speaker 6 (05:01):
Sorry I never got published, but yeah, UH did some
did some schoolwork for with with him, and then yeah,
I covered called some of the games cool.

Speaker 2 (05:09):
Okay, So here we are your dooryors. Uh continue to struggle.

Speaker 4 (05:14):
Well, they won two out of three from from Minnesota,
but the third one was they.

Speaker 3 (05:20):
It was stupid.

Speaker 4 (05:20):
I this is funny because I become my older brother Rick.

Speaker 3 (05:27):
As it relates to the Dodgers.

Speaker 4 (05:28):
Like if I'm watching if there's a U of a
game basketball, football or whatever, and it's going back, He'll
start texting me about how awful things are and how
they suck and they quit and this and then the other.
I kind of do the same thing to my son
about the Dodgers because I was so mad in the
game on uh, they're up two to one, top of
the eighth and they bring in the Really their bullpen
is the crap right now? Okay, I could pitch for them,

(05:50):
all right, And they bring in they bring in a
guy top of the eighth, one run lead, he walks,
the bases loaded, three walks.

Speaker 3 (05:58):
It doesn't get it out.

Speaker 4 (06:00):
They score two runs, take the lead three to two,
and I'm like, it's the eighth inning. They don't score
on the bottom of the eighth, I'm like, all right,
and then they walk off. But Freddy Freeman, you know,
you know, then they load up the bases and and
Freddy Freeman gets the basehead and they walk it off
and win the game, even though they probably shouldn't have
because the way they're so they're you know, they're they're

(06:21):
frustrating to watch. But they're still winning and there's still
like four or four and a half games up in
the West. I don't believe they're gonna win the World Series.
I really don't they just because because of the pitching.
Too many injuries. They got guys banged up. Even if
some of these pitchers come back, how good can they be,
you know? I mean, they may get numbers, but I

(06:43):
don't know that they'll have the quality of pictures that
you need to win a world series, and so I
don't have I have zero confidence that they're winning the
world series.

Speaker 2 (06:51):
Okay, change that bet to anybody who's uh, who's bet
on them? Let me ask you something because I haven't
seen you, say a week. A lot of people have
died in the last week. God, by the way, for
it came in for Connie Stevens. You don't even know.

Speaker 3 (07:02):
Conny Stephens died. Connie Francis.

Speaker 2 (07:04):
Connie Francis, Yeah, Connie, somebody.

Speaker 3 (07:08):
Any Connie who's still alive.

Speaker 2 (07:09):
I'm surprised Conny somebody died. That's no, No, last week
speak were the Yeah she was the old time, she
was like.

Speaker 3 (07:17):
Eighties a singer and actress. Oh yes, Connie Francis. That
was the sixteenth. Yeah yeah, but are you talking about
I would have thought she was dead.

Speaker 2 (07:26):
Yeah yeah, right, So so we were talking yesterday, it
comes in. That's that's fine, Well commend Joe.

Speaker 4 (07:32):
Okay, Connie Francis, then Malcolm, Jamal Warner, Ozzy Osborne, Hulk Hogan.

Speaker 2 (07:38):
Right, and that's because we were talking fives. It's gonna
be more than that. And now we're talking fives, right
and they say the start sober threes, Black Sabbath. Did
you listen to them? What do you think of them?
That's two to one, now to two?

Speaker 3 (07:52):
Right now? Over the week, it's it's three to two.

Speaker 4 (07:55):
Are asked me, You asked me the name of Ozzy
Osbourne song? And I got one crazy train, Yes, because
we used to because we used to play that as
an end, as a as a walk up song at
Saint Gregory.

Speaker 2 (08:07):
So that people our age. I don't know, maybe it's
people us two just I just don't get it.

Speaker 4 (08:12):
But but here was a funny, funny tweet I saw
about him and said, Ozzy Osbourne comes from a time
when you could bite the head off of bat on
stage and nobody would blink.

Speaker 5 (08:23):
You didn't know.

Speaker 3 (08:23):
Now if you did that, now, Peter would come after you.

Speaker 7 (08:26):
Yeah, Peter right, and everybody else, the World Wildlife Federation,
all those people would come after you.

Speaker 4 (08:32):
Oh yeah, but yeah, yeah, well no they do come
in three, Steve, So now we've got one more coming.

Speaker 2 (08:39):
But I didn't know.

Speaker 3 (08:40):
I didn't know.

Speaker 4 (08:40):
Connie Francis said, or so and again, if you'd have
asked me, how to, said Connie Francis. She died like
thirty years ago. So so someone just texted me. I
don't know who this because I don't have my name.
The Dodger's bullpen has been bad the last five years. Yeah, yeah,
but they've got a World Series to talk about it.
So two of them actually and and But the problem

(09:02):
this year too, they don't have the hitting to overcome that.

Speaker 3 (09:06):
Most.

Speaker 4 (09:06):
I mean, they won four to three the other day,
you know, I mean, I just I don't know. It's
the bullpen is awful, those four to three. The Freddy
Friedman walk off, yeah, walk off on Thursday.

Speaker 3 (09:19):
He threw the ball away like in the outfield. Was
it Dodgers, Yeah, it was the Dodgers.

Speaker 6 (09:24):
It was against It was one of the games against
the Twins they thread.

Speaker 3 (09:28):
Yeah, it ended up in a triple I forget for you, right,
that was that.

Speaker 4 (09:31):
That was the ten to seven game. I mean, you know,
then they score seven runs and can still get beat,
you know, ten to seven. It's just they're hard to watch.
They're really really hard to watch. Sorry here, but but
you know what I watch them? Are you wearing their guard?

Speaker 3 (09:47):
Well, it's because I had this in the back of
the car.

Speaker 2 (09:49):
And it's freezing in here. It's freezing here. Okay, cool,
So those two Fader and then Stewart here the next
couple of a couple of hours here, h football starts Tuesday.

Speaker 3 (10:00):
To be busy with that.

Speaker 2 (10:00):
Yeah, finally one by fast, someone one by fast for me.

Speaker 4 (10:04):
I feel like you did. Somebody somebody said, wasn't fourth
of July like two days ago?

Speaker 3 (10:08):
It doesn't seem it does seem like that.

Speaker 4 (10:10):
Yeah, yeah, it just this month has flown by right
so fast.

Speaker 2 (10:14):
We'll see. Did you see some of the things that
the desirealy not tweeted out, but she sent out email
some of the things that they're gonna do with bands
and yeahs like that.

Speaker 4 (10:25):
You know.

Speaker 2 (10:26):
The one thing that I was wondering are the sound system?

Speaker 4 (10:29):
Is the sound system to being good in the stadium? Yeah, no,
that's the same. But the bands those are concerts outside
this Yeah yeah, those are at the West Well fan.

Speaker 2 (10:40):
Give a crap about that? Yeah, I'm sudding like you know.

Speaker 3 (10:43):
No, I'm no, I'm I'm I'm told that's not happening.

Speaker 2 (10:46):
What that's that's parallel.

Speaker 4 (10:47):
It's a multimillion dollar thing. Just to get it better
to paramuch replace it.

Speaker 2 (10:54):
Yeah, and the other stuff is just okay, we'll give
you a couple of they're trying to get people there,
so yeah, and then them off when they get inside
the When when.

Speaker 4 (11:03):
The when the band? When the band? The thing got announced.
I told my son, he said, I don't know.

Speaker 8 (11:09):
I don't.

Speaker 3 (11:09):
I don't.

Speaker 4 (11:09):
I'm not saying North Wind and Fire, Stevie Wonder Boss gags.

Speaker 9 (11:14):
You know.

Speaker 3 (11:15):
The dude, none of those guys are there.

Speaker 4 (11:18):
I mean Roger Roger Klein and the Peacemakers is the
only band of those guys. And I've never heard him.
I only know his name because he's always in Rocky
Point around the time that we go of her because
we've a tour. But yeah, yeah, no, I get it.
I would think that they would put some stuff inside
the building. Dude, No, no, well they can't. Not not

(11:40):
not on game day too much.

Speaker 2 (11:41):
Money, no no, no, no, no, no, put not not put
them inside the stadium, makeing prove improvements.

Speaker 3 (11:48):
Well, they're they're as coming from inside that we're going to.

Speaker 4 (11:51):
Be doing some things that I can't talk about that.
Are you going to be different inside the stadium this year?
In the in the game during in the game operation
yet Okay, but I was told they're not getting the
South sound system this year.

Speaker 3 (12:07):
But here's the thing.

Speaker 4 (12:08):
I think they're hearing enough about it from fans. Well,
they have things that they have to know that it's
an issue for fans.

Speaker 2 (12:17):
Well, if they send out these flyers right requests, I mean, that's.

Speaker 3 (12:20):
Got to be one of the number one things.

Speaker 2 (12:22):
I hadn't been there. You know, we go as reporters
and we go and I'm thinking, what's the what's the issue?
I go as a guy, as a guest, as a
regular dude. How about I can't hear this stuff about you?

Speaker 4 (12:33):
Did you see the especially where you sit. We can't
hear you listen on the RADI you what, Steve. I
can't even hear Michael Center either. So that's more me
than them, but it is. But it's like, here's what
it is. Because I can hear Jeff Deane, you know,
the piano. I can hear him final right, but I
can't hear So they put a video on the board

(12:54):
and the fans are yelling and there's narration on the video.
I can't hear that. I have no idea of what
they're saying. So you're going to say, here's another sue.
So did you see when the when the band thing,
the concert thing got announced and the band director, your
friend the band he went on there and did a thing. Well,
you know, we're okay with this as long as as
long as it doesn't cut back on how much we

(13:18):
get to perform.

Speaker 3 (13:19):
I wanted to say, you.

Speaker 4 (13:23):
Can, you know what off because you think that you
exist for band competitions when really you exist because of football.
If it wasn't for football, you wouldn't exist. So until
you start shape it up, you know, trying to do
something to make the game better, get the f out

(13:45):
of here.

Speaker 3 (13:46):
I didn't say that, but I wanted, but I just did. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (13:49):
Well times we had him on the show right years ago,
you were not.

Speaker 3 (13:53):
Wanted. Yeah, it was kind of like, yeah, we do
the entry.

Speaker 2 (13:57):
Yeah, but.

Speaker 4 (14:00):
I don't know why these band directors think that this
thing is about them. They they they wouldn't be here
if colleges weren't playing football. They would be a school
band that played, you know, at the music hall twice a.

Speaker 3 (14:14):
Year, so Literacy Jay.

Speaker 4 (14:17):
They wouldn't be out there performing on the field and
the Super Bowls and you know.

Speaker 3 (14:21):
This stuff if it weren't for football.

Speaker 4 (14:24):
So get your you know what together and start making
a difference at the football games.

Speaker 2 (14:31):
That's what you're here for. Okay, with that, we'll take
a break because we need one fired up man.

Speaker 3 (14:36):

campers to sign in, uh because we're about a month
out and we need to start ordering swag. So that's where.
But I also am now the board share of the

(21:01):
UH Southern Arizona Law Enforcement Foundation, which is a police
foundation and and oh what more, I forgot the Father.

Speaker 11 (21:09):
Of the Year dinner. UH so also doing that. So
I'm definitely not bored.

Speaker 2 (21:14):
How was How was the dinner of what two three
months ago? It was early June?

Speaker 3 (21:19):
How was it? Tommy was there and some others.

Speaker 8 (21:23):
Yeah, Tommy, Jim toefel Eric Corneitis and Kay Watson Hobby.

Speaker 4 (21:30):
Uh.

Speaker 8 (21:30):
That was nice and we had a really nice turn out.
Uh and we had you know, we raised a lot
of money through the auction. Sorry, Jay couldn't get any
Dodger tickets this year.

Speaker 3 (21:40):
Well I couldn't be there anyways.

Speaker 4 (21:42):
But hey, real quick, I know if I told you
the guy that that did that for us last year,
did I tell you about that he got us the most,
He got us the most incredible tickets. First of all,
First of all, we're supposed to get four tickets, right,
So I when I told him, I said, hey, we're
gonna need two more.

Speaker 3 (21:56):
Can I buy two more? Said? Sure, no problem.

Speaker 4 (21:58):
And then he then he causes, I'm gonna get you
going compy wall six And I said great.

Speaker 3 (22:01):
So we gave it six tickets.

Speaker 4 (22:02):
We were like row twenty field level.

Speaker 11 (22:06):
Wow.

Speaker 4 (22:07):
And I'm talking like behind the visitor dugout. It was unbelievable.

Speaker 8 (22:12):
Well, the good the good news is you were supporting
a good cause, you know, just to help the research
of type one diabetes.

Speaker 3 (22:19):
Yeah, well put it this.

Speaker 11 (22:20):
I one of these worked out.

Speaker 3 (22:21):
One of those.

Speaker 4 (22:22):
Tickets costs more than what I paid for the silent
auction item.

Speaker 11 (22:26):
How much you do? I don't remember what you paid.
I think I'm getting.

Speaker 4 (22:29):
I didn't only paid like two seventy five for the
for the auction item. One of those tickets.

Speaker 11 (22:34):
Those were seventy dollars.

Speaker 2 (22:37):
No, no, no, four hundred dollars were they?

Speaker 3 (22:40):
There were four hundred dollars tickets. Wow, you stolen for
six Well.

Speaker 11 (22:45):
I guess you did pretty well.

Speaker 3 (22:46):
We didn't really want I gave the guy. I thank
the guy a.

Speaker 2 (22:48):
Whole bunch of No.

Speaker 3 (22:50):
This is what I'm hearing from you guys. There's nobody
who likes the Dodger show. You just paid two seventy five.

Speaker 8 (22:57):
And by the way, I I'm sorry the Dodgers.

Speaker 4 (23:00):
Were playing recently. God, we were just talking about that
in the first segment. It's hard to watch.

Speaker 11 (23:06):
The Yankees got Ryan McMahon to see that.

Speaker 2 (23:09):
Yeah today, Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 8 (23:14):
So no, I don't know if the Dodger pitching, if
they can get everybody healthy enough, it's awful.

Speaker 3 (23:19):
Yeah, it's awful. That's that's the deal.

Speaker 11 (23:22):
What about your Cubs, I'm still happy.

Speaker 8 (23:26):
Uh you know, the Brewers are on fire. Yeah, and
and but the Cubs are good. I mean the Cubs
at the trade deadline need a starting pitcher.

Speaker 11 (23:36):
Uh.

Speaker 8 (23:36):
I think if they get one starting pitcher, they'll be fine.
I mean, you know, you look at the top four guys,
I mean, twenty homers, sixty RBIs. You know, it's it's
crazy how good of an offensive team they are. Uh
so they I think they and the Brewers are going
to actually compete all the way in the end, which
is which is fun because if you remember, Pat Murphy

(23:57):
was our manager for the TuS Padres.

Speaker 11 (24:01):
Oh okay, you don't remember that.

Speaker 3 (24:04):
Come on, I only remember him being at A s U.

Speaker 11 (24:09):
Oh no, he was.

Speaker 2 (24:10):
He was here, he was.

Speaker 3 (24:11):
He was a pretty good guy. He can't possibly be
a good.

Speaker 2 (24:15):
He was if I remember. But he was a pretty
good guy. Obviously a good baseball coach.

Speaker 11 (24:19):
It's a very good baseball coach.

Speaker 8 (24:21):
And and and Jay I didn't when when I know
the A s U stuff, which I knew, I didn't
like him as much then, but then once he became
our manager, I.

Speaker 2 (24:30):
Liked him of course.

Speaker 11 (24:31):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (24:31):
Now he became your your dude.

Speaker 8 (24:37):
He was just a bench a bench coach for Craig Council.
Uh and had stepped up with kind of an anonymous
team and and it's done a really good job to show.

Speaker 4 (24:49):
Wow, I'm still mad at Craig Console because he stood
me up for golf one time back in like two
thousand and one.

Speaker 11 (24:55):
Two.

Speaker 8 (24:55):
Yeah, and that just shows you how long we've all
been around.

Speaker 2 (25:00):
So you're saying, you know, you're just a consultant, what
does that consist of?

Speaker 3 (25:04):
Whatever they need to tell you.

Speaker 8 (25:06):
If they have questions, you know, they call me. I'm
still going to do the game program. I'm kind of
like Jay I get rented out a lot. Uh And
then i I'll you know, I'll the.

Speaker 11 (25:19):
Events is going to be bigger and better.

Speaker 8 (25:20):
I mean, I went to the best conference earlier this
week and and I think it's.

Speaker 11 (25:26):
Really they're going. They're definitely going in the right direction.

Speaker 2 (25:29):
Uh.

Speaker 8 (25:29):
So like I'll talk to the owner, you know, I'll
talk to Frank Amez, you know, and just if they
have any questions of things that I was involved in,
then boom, I'll respond immediately because I want them to
do well. And now it's exciting because of the new team, right,
you know, not that and I hate the name, by
the way, but but the Tucson baseball team, it's like

(25:52):
the Washington.

Speaker 3 (25:53):
Football right, be patient, be patient.

Speaker 8 (25:58):
Well, and the Utah hockey team, it's a thing. Then
they got a cool I like their hats and I
like their jerseys. So and I think, you know, people
need to understand they are not a new team. They're
a new team to Tucson, right if they're a team
that's been in the in the Mexican winter, they over
thirty years, and and they've been competitive, and and they're

(26:22):
they're actually you know, signing some really good American players. Uh.

Speaker 11 (26:26):
You know, they're allowed eight what would be considered foreign
which is an American player, right. Uh.

Speaker 8 (26:33):
And they've got the good guys that are returning, So
they're gonna.

Speaker 11 (26:37):
Be a lot of fun. I'll be out of a
lot of those games.

Speaker 8 (26:39):
I I just now, you know how many times did
any of the three of us get people complaining about
teams leaving here, Well, don't complain anymore unless you're gonna
go support, no question.

Speaker 2 (26:51):
We talk about that all the time, Like if you're
gonna be in, be in and stop bitching about it.

Speaker 3 (26:56):
No question.

Speaker 8 (26:57):
I'm not saying you're gonna go to every game.

Speaker 11 (26:58):
You're not gonna go.

Speaker 8 (26:59):
To the new team Wednesday games and but but they're
gonna have good stuff. I mean, the first game is
against are Mocio. They're gonna have fireworks, They're gonna.

Speaker 11 (27:08):
Have a concerts.

Speaker 8 (27:10):
I'm sure they'll do things a lot of like the
way we've done stuff in the Mexican Baseball Fiesta. I
think it'll be a lot of fun. And both of
you guys have known because you've seen the Fiesta. This
will be better talent than has been at the Fiesta,
because at the Fiesta, a lot of players just joined
their Mexican Wintering League team at the end, at the

(27:31):
end of their training or during the season. Now these
guys are here full time because it's their team, right.

Speaker 2 (27:38):
No, and it's baseball and Tucson, something that you know
should happen more and more often than not.

Speaker 11 (27:43):
Well, I definitely agree with that.

Speaker 8 (27:46):
I think, I think, and I there's gonna probably be
another announcement there. I know they've been talking to the
Arizona Fall League about possibly having some games down there,
so I don't be shocked to see that announcement coming
in next few weeks.

Speaker 3 (27:58):
Yeah, no, I hear you on that one.

Speaker 2 (28:00):
Okay, So you're busy, but not a bad busy like
my guy here, that guy, so you have you have
the baseball team.

Speaker 3 (28:06):
I just called Jade that.

Speaker 2 (28:07):
Guy so until he gets a better name, that you're
you know, you're finding ways to keep busy.

Speaker 8 (28:13):
Oh no, and right now, my grandson's here and on
baby thing all day today.

Speaker 11 (28:19):
That's enough to keep your business. Six he just turned six.

Speaker 2 (28:25):
Put Patty to work work, Look at that. That's keep
him on and I'd rather have him.

Speaker 11 (28:37):
They want to ask you a question.

Speaker 4 (28:38):
Wait, does he have a Does he have a mustache yet? No?

Speaker 11 (28:42):
No mustache. He's a good one. He's going to go
out to the baseball game.

Speaker 2 (28:47):
Who's who?

Speaker 3 (28:48):
Hey, diego, who's your favorite team?

Speaker 18 (28:51):
I would say the bird one?

Speaker 3 (29:00):
Okay, football?

Speaker 2 (29:01):
Okay, okay, do you like who.

Speaker 3 (29:04):
Do you like more? Who do you like more?

Speaker 4 (29:05):
Of the Dodgers or the Cubs?

Speaker 2 (29:12):
Okay? Yeah, you been. One of the things you learned
as a six year old is no where your bread
is buttered.

Speaker 8 (29:19):
He just he just said, yeah, but told me to
say that.

Speaker 2 (29:23):
It's about right, nick yaba. Yeah, okay, okay, okay, So
so what else is going on? Uh? I was gonna
ask your age, but I don't know if you want
to say that.

Speaker 3 (29:34):
No, we don't want him.

Speaker 8 (29:35):
To seventy three years old, which is why I'm no
longer full time.

Speaker 11 (29:39):
With the Mexican baseball team.

Speaker 2 (29:41):
So eighty eight, I think you got here in eighty eight,
eighty nine, right eighty nine, So you were like the
Charles how you were.

Speaker 3 (29:48):
On a young thirty eightish, thirty.

Speaker 11 (29:51):
Nine ish whatever, that your masks better than mine.

Speaker 2 (29:55):
And then I don't have that. Man, did you think
he's be here this long?

Speaker 3 (29:58):
You? Although you did leave to New Orleans?

Speaker 8 (30:00):
Well, but don't forget both of you know the story.
When I was running the double at in Jackson, Mississippi
for the Mets, I had always told, UH, whether it
be Paul Moscow or Rick Holtzman, who was our owner,
I said, I really want to go to Tucson as
the GM and and.

Speaker 11 (30:21):
That was like two years before I came here. Uh,
and the.

Speaker 2 (30:26):
Dream came true.

Speaker 8 (30:27):
And then even when I went up to the New
Orleans Saints, UH for five years, I knew that I
was coming back to Tucson. And I didn't know that
we'd have a triple A team with the Tucson with
the San Diego Padres, but I did know that this
was going to be where we spend the rest.

Speaker 11 (30:44):
Of our life.

Speaker 4 (30:44):
Oh look, go back, because I've always I'm fascinated by this,
and I've had this conversation with you know, people who
we had on the show or people who I interviewed
for various reasons before you came. Why Tucson, What did
what did you know about Tucson? What did you think
about Tucson?

Speaker 8 (31:00):
On the answer, my mom and dad went on a
cruise with the doctors.

Speaker 11 (31:08):
The vectors and you guys have been around the locker
room right.

Speaker 8 (31:11):
Ownah, and wherever I was. Between Christmas and New Year's,
myself and my brother and his wife would come to
Tucson to be with my parents and then we would
go and they had cottages behind the tack room. Yeah,
and so we we just came every year for probably
five six seven years before him even coming here. And

(31:34):
I just obviously I just loved it, and uh and knew,
I mean, I was tired of cold weather.

Speaker 11 (31:39):
I mean, so, uh, you know, Jackson, Mississippi. It was
just time you know I was ready for a change. Uh,
and I and I.

Speaker 8 (31:47):
Pushed Rick Holtzman hard to get this done, and boom,
he got it done. He said, if you go back
to Quad City, a Class A team of the Angels
and run that for one year to help get the
straightened out, then if I get a Triple A team
to run it, you got.

Speaker 2 (32:04):
A deal here, I am interesting? Yeah?

Speaker 8 (32:07):
Right?

Speaker 2 (32:07):
And how many years later, how many times, many years
going on?

Speaker 8 (32:12):
I was the GM and the Triple A team for
fifteen years. Ye Now, I was with the Tucson Mavericks.

Speaker 11 (32:20):
You gotta be obld to remember that. Yeah, the hockey team.

Speaker 8 (32:26):
When I was here, we had a record for the
longest losing streak to start the season ever.

Speaker 11 (32:32):
Jay, do you remember the Mavericks?

Speaker 2 (32:33):
I do? I do?

Speaker 8 (32:37):
And so we had that and then and then both
you know, you know, I got the I was with
the Arizona Bowles the executive director and started the Sugar Skulls.
You know, Jay was a big part of that, and
still is. Uh you know so, and then Steve even
dragged me.

Speaker 11 (32:53):
In to work with El Tour one year.

Speaker 1 (32:55):
Yea.

Speaker 8 (32:57):
So no, I if there's something in sports, then I've
probably been a part of.

Speaker 2 (33:01):
It, right right, And now you're got You're gonna be
busy schedule the next month or so. So Mike, well,
thank you very much. As usual, we'll see you soon.

Speaker 8 (33:10):
Dave, I want you to know I actually am working
to get Selim Stodermeyer back.

Speaker 3 (33:15):
There are you? Wowka he still.

Speaker 8 (33:18):
He responded to my text. And then I'm also now
working on Josh Passner, who's now right up the road
in Vegas.

Speaker 2 (33:26):
Yeah, it'll be easier for him. He's on the show
all the time, is no.

Speaker 11 (33:30):
So I'm really working to get those two guys.

Speaker 3 (33:32):
So is Sean coming back?

Speaker 8 (33:35):
I have not heard officially from showing. Unfortunately, Kenny Laston
will not, nor will Harvey Mason. But I think you
guys know how busy Harvey may he's.

Speaker 3 (33:45):
A little bit. Yeah, Josh will be the last guy
pick no, no.

Speaker 11 (33:49):
But I love to get Josh.

Speaker 2 (33:50):
Yeah, Josh is the mayor. He's fun, the mayor. You're
gonna have fun.

Speaker 4 (33:53):
But he'll be he'll be the last guy picked. Yeah,
the last guy.

Speaker 2 (33:56):
You've asked him a number of times in Atlanta. It's
too far. He couldn't do it. But yeah, okay, so.

Speaker 8 (34:00):
Hey, he doesn't have to play.

Speaker 11 (34:01):
He's a coach.

Speaker 3 (34:03):
He's gonna want to play now, won't let him?

Speaker 8 (34:07):
Good Stave will remember one year we let Ben Davison
play and I think to this day that is probably
the only participant in the fantasy camp to ever dunk.

Speaker 3 (34:19):
Pretty much.

Speaker 2 (34:20):
Yeah, the guys look playing with him, just to see
how it felt. Well, thanks Mike, good work, see you soon,
good talk. Can thank you.

Speaker 4 (34:36):
Just mister sports here, I mean, really think about think
about people who have been involved in sports, you know
in this town. You know, he's one of those guys,
if not the guy, because you know, you got guys
like Pat Darcy, you know, you know some of the conquistas,
people like what's her name, Oh yeah, DeMott, Judy McDermott,

(34:59):
you know, just people of common you know, done stuff here.

Speaker 2 (35:01):
Yeah, well we talk about that now. I'm a guy
who's done so much. Yeah not forty years, thirty years.
We talk about that with with Blake all the time.
Now they have that new group coming in trying to
make things happen.

Speaker 3 (35:14):
Those guys. Yeah yeah, so.

Speaker 2 (35:16):
You know there's that group, you know, the contemporary at
the radio show, the attorney Jesus, my my my, uh yeah,
I'm getting your disease.

Speaker 3 (35:32):
Guy.

Speaker 4 (35:32):
It happens about that age, Steve.

Speaker 3 (35:35):
I laugh, but I'm not laughing. We're laughing. Give us
some commercial.

call please do five two o four one, six, seventy
four forty. Do you have tickets to the football season.

Speaker 3 (40:04):
I'm not sure how the tickets.

Speaker 4 (40:05):
I got my tickets, actually I got my actual tickets
just I think yesterday.

Speaker 2 (40:09):
Do we know how well they're doing? Oh no, I
don't know. Last year it was pretty good because it
was you know, and I wouldn't expect that they're going
to have a banner season for season tickets.

Speaker 4 (40:20):
But I do hope that, you know, things get gone
and that by mid season people feel like they might
be a good team and they.

Speaker 3 (40:26):
Struck them out the game.

Speaker 2 (40:27):
I don't think I'm speaking out of my what, but
I saw I think earlier this week that the Brennan
among the coaches in the league, that Brennan was the
least favorable coacher.

Speaker 4 (40:37):
I don't know, yeah, yeah, well, well he got voted
as the you know, the worst coach in the league
or just the number sixteen coach in the league or whatever.

Speaker 3 (40:47):
But not surprising.

Speaker 4 (40:49):
I mean, you know, people thought he inherited a ten
and three team and should have done better than they did,
and they didn't, and so they you know he deserves
to be the you know, the lower lower rungs of
the of the coaches in the in the Big twelve.
But I think it still remains to be seen whether
or not he's a good coach.

Speaker 3 (41:07):
Yeah. Have we talked to you about the record?

Speaker 2 (41:10):
Have you gone through the schedule with with Jay?

Speaker 11 (41:12):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (41:12):
No, we've done it with everybody else. Yeah, we've done
it with a lot of people. I don't think we've
done it with Jay. But upple it up in terms.

Speaker 2 (41:19):
Of wins and losses and losses right right, and we'll
go through it.

Speaker 3 (41:22):
Well, whatever it is, I'm I'm gonna I'm I'm going
six wins.

Speaker 2 (41:25):
Didn't didn't we?

Speaker 4 (41:25):
Yeah, we talked about that. Yeah, we talked a little
bit about it. I mean I six, you know I
took over five and a half.

Speaker 3 (41:31):
Yeah, well, I think that's a good good thing.

Speaker 2 (41:33):
Now.

Speaker 4 (41:34):
I mean, first of all, they should get to right
out of the box. Okay, you know we were State
in Hawaii. You know they get that, they get those two.
I think you're gonna go six and three and then
who knows, right they get those two. Kansas State has
to come here. It's a Friday night. You know who
knows you know what happens there. It's not an elite game,
but you know not now, you know, if you won

(41:56):
your first two games and have a little mojo going,
maybe you beat you win that game and you don't
got to win three more games and you're in a
bowl game.

Speaker 2 (42:02):
So tell me Hawaii is thirty first thirty.

Speaker 3 (42:06):
That's Saturday, Saturday. But then the next weekend we were here.

Speaker 2 (42:11):
That's up Saturday, September sixty.

Speaker 3 (42:13):
I would assume so.

Speaker 4 (42:14):
And then Friday, then the next one, Kansastate comes here
Friday night. So the first three games are non conference
home games.

Speaker 3 (42:21):
Yeah, and then they go and then I got it up. Now,
so Iowa State.

Speaker 7 (42:27):
At Ames and names be a hard game, Oklahoma State here,
b why you hear Houston at Houston, Colorado in Colorado,
Kansas here, Cincinnati in Cincinnati, Baylor and then obviously as
U and so.

Speaker 2 (42:45):
So I think six and three is first six wins
in there somewhere. Yeah, No, I totally agree with you.

Speaker 4 (42:50):
You know, I can't you know, after the you know,
once the conference season gets going, I can't. I can't
name you six because I don't know, you know, three
more wins or for more wins whatever.

Speaker 3 (43:00):
We don't know.

Speaker 4 (43:00):
I don't know about Oklahoma State, I don't know about Cincinnati,
I don't know about Baylor.

Speaker 11 (43:05):
You know.

Speaker 3 (43:06):
Look, you know the conversation I've been having about people.
And then oh.

Speaker 4 (43:10):
Asu got good for a year, you know, because they
hit the jackpot on their under portal guys and guys
like Scataboo and this quarterback that they got and stuff
like that. Let's see how they did in the portal
this year, you know, Let's see how Arizona did in
the portal this year. As you remember, let's not forget
as you got picked last in the Big twelve, nobody
expecting to be any good. But what they did was

(43:31):
they did a good job of recruiting and scouting out
of the portal and got a bunch of guys and
it all came together. They could be as good as
they were last year. They could be that bad this
year if they don't do a really good job in
the portal again. And just like in Arizona's the same way.
Arizona was awful last year, but they can be really
good if the guys they went and got from the portal,

(43:52):
Lineman and whatnot all come together. That's how it's going
to be from now on. The only teams that you
know are going to be good every year are the Elements, Amazon,
Ohio States and and you know, Michigan to those guys
because they got they got guys stockpiled. But you know
other teams whose rosters are turning over every year, It

(44:12):
just depends on who they get and it could be
different every year.

Speaker 2 (44:16):
Well, that and how good they're going to be coached. Yeah,
but I do think that he upgraded a lot on
his coaches. Yeah, and he's probably learned a lot. I
think you've been on the show since we had the
twelve where he admitted a lot of things. He had
to kiss a lot of butt the first year, right
and be kind of nice. Now he doesn't have to
do that. I'm doing a story on him for bis Husson, right,

(44:37):
and and some of that will be brought up.

Speaker 4 (44:39):
Yeah, I mean, yeah, and look, he as much as you,
well he's been coaching for a long time. He was
still a relatively new head coach and certainly a brand
new head coach at the Power four level, So you know,
maybe he was in over his head a little bit
this year, well last year, but we'll see.

Speaker 2 (44:56):
And I think he's probably got some I don't know
pressure is the right word, but the boss, right, he
is paying attention.

Speaker 4 (45:02):
Sure, sure, and and and maybe he's you know, he's
really you know, he had that first year of oh god,
this is what it's like, right, I mean, how many
times do you think he got up in the morning
and said, holy crap, this is hard.

Speaker 3 (45:16):
You know, but this is a lot harder than I
thought it was.

Speaker 4 (45:18):
Right, right, So, you know, if he's a good coach,
that first year will have taught him a lot of lessons.
And if he's a good coach, he will learn from
those things and he'll do better with all of those things.
And you know, I haven't had any long conversations with him.
You know, I've seen him, I've chatted with him a

(45:39):
couple of times. I think he's a good, smart guy.

Speaker 2 (45:43):
Yeah, that I think we can say yes to h now.
It's just you know, kind of finding his way.

Speaker 3 (45:49):
Right, you know.

Speaker 4 (45:49):
And I think look, as much as we thought it
was a great idea to bring in Dino Babers and
Duyna Quina as your coordinators, it maybe wasn't such a
good idea because those guys were old school and Arizona
didn't have the kind of guys that their system, their
old school way of doing things worked. No, Fafita's not

(46:11):
a drop back quarterback like don know, babies tried to
make him.

Speaker 2 (46:13):
Well, and we don't know until we know, right right,
and now we.

Speaker 4 (46:17):
Know, yeah, you know, I mean again I I you know,
and who knows, who knows what we saw what we've
been seeing. But you know that that spring scrimmage they had,
you know where they had the Festen thing.

Speaker 3 (46:28):
You know, just I wanted to see the scrimmage and
I did.

Speaker 4 (46:31):
I sat and I watched it because I wanted to
see what it looked like that they were doing. It
didn't look anything like last year.

Speaker 3 (46:39):
In fact, it looked like rich Rod kind of football.

Speaker 4 (46:43):
You know, five receivers running around all over the place
and somebody opened on every play just like a question
and Fafita getting the ball and getting rid of it
and not you know, a slow play action, you know,
fake handoff, seven step drop and then try.

Speaker 3 (46:59):
And see over the line.

Speaker 4 (47:00):
He was running, he was sprinting out, he was he
was getting the ball two steps in a throw. You know,
That's what I saw in it. And you saw all
these five foot ten, six foot tall little receiver scat
receivers running all over the place. Yeah, and he was
just throwing passes to all these guys. Yeah, is there

(47:21):
a Team Mac. There absolutely is not a Team Ac
on this team, not even close. But they got a
bunch of guys out there, like rich Rod would have
you know, all, you know, six different guys who could
catch the ball on a given play.

Speaker 6 (47:34):
I think kind of something that even though obviously it's
better to have a receiver like like Tac on the team,
I think it's almost kind of like it there is
a pro to not having him on the team, because
it's like you have a stud like that, You're gonna
look at him every play, and you know sometimes it's
just gonna you're gonna get caught up in that, and

(47:55):
so like this, it's kind of more of you know,
spreading the wealth around, right thing.

Speaker 4 (47:59):
Well, Well, Brennan said that in the at the Big
twelve media day, he talked, he talked about the fact
he said, you know, it was great to have tm Mac,
but there were times when we were zeroed in on
Tac and he's the only guy we were throwing the
ball to. Yeah, And that was both hard on him
and Fafita.

Speaker 2 (48:16):
Got a call.

Speaker 3 (48:16):
Who's this, Hey, Steve? This is done?

Speaker 5 (48:22):
How you doing?

Speaker 8 (48:22):
Hi?

Speaker 10 (48:23):
Jay?

Speaker 3 (48:23):
What's up done? How's it going?

Speaker 5 (48:25):
That's going good man? You're I was getting ready to
call in and then he kept saying everything that I
wanted to take done you and I do you know
you know about Dino Babers and everything else. I think
that you know, the impression that Brennan made last year
was not a good one. The results were not good.

(48:46):
And you know, the all the preseason hype that they're
not getting or bad bad hype that they're getting, it's deserved.

Speaker 3 (48:54):
It absolutely is.

Speaker 5 (48:56):
On the other on the other end of that, you know,
I don't. I don't. We don't need a team ac no,
because when you know, two years ago we had Jacob Cowing.
And if we could get a bunch of guys that
are like Jacob Cowing one or two a year, just
like back in the Rich Rod days, we don't have

(49:17):
to have that top guy that's going to get drafted.
That's not what Arizona needs to be right.

Speaker 3 (49:23):
They need a bunch of good guys.

Speaker 4 (49:25):
And remember the team ac Jacob Cowing year, they also
had McLaughlin, who was one of the best tight ends
in the country.

Speaker 5 (49:33):
And I don't really I don't think that year that
tm mac was the number one guy anyway, because Cowing
was the splash guy. So and I've said, I've said
on this show, and and I still believe Arizona's not
going to be a national championship team ever. They made,

(49:54):
you know, lightning in a bottle one season and be
competitive at that level, but you know, I think that
they need to just be good at what they do,
compete for conference championships and and just just be good Arizona.

Speaker 3 (50:13):
Every once in a while.

Speaker 5 (50:14):
They'll have that twelve and one season, ten and two
season or something of that nature. And I think, and
I'm good with that as long as nobody wants to
play us exactly, and that's that's as long as nobody
wants Arizona on that schedule.

Speaker 3 (50:28):
They're like, dang, you, we gotta go to Tucson.

Speaker 2 (50:30):
Let me ask you, Doug, because I don't know this.
We really don't know this. How long have you been
in Tucson and where were you before?

Speaker 5 (50:37):
Like your allegiance, I've been in tucsonsin September nineteen sixty five. Okay, okay,
so when I was born at Tucson General Hospital, which
is a cancer center.

Speaker 3 (50:49):
Now, okay, no.

Speaker 2 (50:50):
So you you're you're you of a you're you're you
way through and through then.

Speaker 5 (50:55):
Oh yeah, I remember when they used to wear red
shoulder pads with see through jerseys, man red helmet today?

Speaker 2 (51:04):
So are you like are you like Jay kind of
this broken hearted?

Speaker 3 (51:09):
Uh? You know something? Woe is me?

Speaker 2 (51:11):
Guy? Football?

Speaker 5 (51:12):
I know I'm not because I know what Arizona is.
I know where Arizona is.

Speaker 2 (51:19):
So you're not delusion, you know, I don't know?

Speaker 3 (51:22):
No me kind of guy. Well, how would you describe yourself?

Speaker 2 (51:26):
I'm just.

Speaker 3 (51:28):
I don't know, just somebody who's never gotten to the
mountain top. I don't know.

Speaker 11 (51:35):
The roll.

Speaker 5 (51:36):
The rose ball hurts, you know. And even if at
some at some point in time they were to play
in it, it's not going to be the same as
as being a Pac ten champion. But you know what,
I still want to go. I think I think this

(51:58):
conference suits us and and I think that I'm looking
forward to seeing the team make a nice jump to
six or seven wins this year. I think the changes
that Brennan has made you know, he's he knows enough
that he had he knew enough that he had to
make changes. I don't know why. I don't know why
he would ever bring Babers Well, that was like how

(52:21):
dynamic was Syracuse ever?

Speaker 3 (52:25):
Okay there on that one?

Speaker 5 (52:29):
I mean, I mean that was that was dude. Why
you know he couldn't bring his own guy because it
was newing New, the guy that was a Navy that
took over at San Jose State. He couldn't have He
knew that he couldn't bring him here, even though he
could have been successful. But you as bad as last

(52:50):
year was, they could have been better, had more wins
and more wins last year with Kennynn, but he would
be even less pop gulariously brought it done even though.

Speaker 2 (53:02):
They could have won more. Done as usual, your elastist
of the hour. Thanks for calling, because.

Speaker 3 (53:07):
We've got to go.

Speaker 11 (53:08):
I have a good one, guys.

Speaker 2 (53:10):
Thank you, thank you. Yeah, let's take a break. I
didn't realize he was that old. He's my age, your
age kind of hes
