Speaker 1 (00:02):
This is I on the Ball with Steve Rivera on
Fox Sports fourteen fifty powered by Nova Insurance Services Insure
your most prized possessions.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
Been good afternoon, everybody. Welcome to I on the Ball
here on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve Rivera. Our
guest today is one. My other guest today is Ray.
I'm not sure we want to be here. Bring your
kids to workday again?

Speaker 3 (00:31):
Can't mix the name up this time?

Speaker 2 (00:33):
No, I know you Gan, do those too? My kids
just right from Carol? Who what are you? Yeah? What
do you get me? Give me my coffee? This is
way too late for coffee.

Speaker 3 (00:46):
It's never too late.

Speaker 2 (00:48):
Power it going? Yeah, I never under the coffee drinker. Hey,
you guys survived the boxing match all the weekend. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (00:53):
Ray was supposed to get in there, but I guess
his opponent Drell.

Speaker 3 (00:57):
He snubbed me.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
Yeah, he said he saw look you saw you. I
don't want any part of it. He says he doesn't
do legs, but he does his upper body.

Speaker 4 (01:05):
Big Ray, Ray, No one want to step.

Speaker 2 (01:09):
In the ring. We saw his little brother though. He
had the same kind of look.

Speaker 3 (01:13):
Yeah, and guy, I saw him. I saw him warming
up a little.

Speaker 2 (01:15):
Bit skinny, curty hair.

Speaker 3 (01:17):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, that guy's pretty.

Speaker 2 (01:21):
It was a fun event though it was okay, it's cool,
it's cool, a little hot.

Speaker 4 (01:25):
There was one we kind of disagreed with the final results.
The big guys, big guys, the big guy.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
Yeah, I think the local kid guy got robbed the pirate.

Speaker 3 (01:33):
All right man Captain Morgan.

Speaker 4 (01:35):
Captain Morgan.

Speaker 2 (01:36):
He took his blows early, but then he kind of
unleased in the last round.

Speaker 3 (01:40):
Yeah, I don't know. I think I think the other
guys should have won. Still.

Speaker 2 (01:42):
Oh really, yeah, I don't know what the knockdown.

Speaker 3 (01:45):
That And that's what it's because it looked like he
caught him while he was going in.

Speaker 5 (01:51):
But at the same time you can see where it's
like story is like, yeah, he kind of just pushed
him to the side and his groceries to the couch.

Speaker 3 (01:57):
Yeah, tough call.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
Okay, it's a good day, good afternoon with the guys
watching the fights. I was practice.

Speaker 4 (02:07):
It was nice and cool, cooler, cooler and not the coolest,
but still pretty cool.

Speaker 2 (02:12):
You know.

Speaker 4 (02:13):
It's compared to ninety five.

Speaker 2 (02:15):
In the morning.

Speaker 4 (02:16):
Yeah outside, Yeah, in seven fifteen at the stadium, where
do they put you.

Speaker 2 (02:22):
We sat on those Zoners side.

Speaker 4 (02:24):
It's kind of all scattered across, but it was it
was a good good night.

Speaker 2 (02:29):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (02:30):
Got talked to coach afterwards, a couple of freshmen, Geo
Richardson and west Yarborough.

Speaker 2 (02:37):
What do you seeing? What are you even trying to see?

Speaker 4 (02:40):
I'm trying at this point, Yeah, just finishing, finishing up
week two. You're looking to see who who are fitting
into those ones in two spots, Who who's running with
Noah because Brett Brendan's made it clear that Noah Fida
is the starter and probably should be.

Speaker 2 (02:57):
He made that decision last year at this time.

Speaker 4 (03:00):
But you're trying to see who's trying to throw through
This is the first time I think since what Pop
Warner for Noah, they's not throwing the t mac mm.
So you're trying to see who's who's making plays out there,
who's consistently connecting with Noah.

Speaker 2 (03:16):
But then also you're.

Speaker 4 (03:17):
Trying to see if he's being protected enough, which to
this point he pretty much has. Target I would say
Chris Hudson, the transfer from I think Washington State. You
played at Oregon for a little bit with Washington State,
but very athletic, very fast in the top of the defense.

(03:38):
But there's there's also just overall playmaking happening on both
sides of the ball. Really, defense has been pretty consistent.
It let up a big play here and there, but
that's what it's that's what it's supposed to be. That's
when you know it's a good practice if it's going
back and forth. Uh, And that's that's what Brendan said.
If one side of the ball is dominating, it's a
great day for them. But overall the team, that means

(04:00):
you're either not moving the ball or you're not stopping
the offense.

Speaker 3 (04:02):
Right, it's good points.

Speaker 2 (04:06):
Yeah, it's like when you gamble, they move the line
to accommodate both sides. That's what they're trying to do.

Speaker 4 (04:11):
No, no momentum.

Speaker 2 (04:13):
No momentum. You don't want momentum on that side of
the ball or either side of the ball. Momentum is
a fallacy word to make believe word just except for
when you use it properly, like the ball is going
down the hill and it's gaining momentum scientifically, scientific and
typically that's the purpose. The momentum. It's not a thing,

(04:35):
it's a run it's a nice run. We've had a
good run at this show. It's not screwed up. Hey,
we might not screwed up today. Today we have how
did I tell you? Today? We have at three seventeen
old Sean mcdeal Like you were with me last time,
it was with me. Uh, the manager of the Sorrels.

(04:57):
They played for a championship tonight. He's been accommodating to us.
They have a game at seven o'clock at Yeah, so
if you have a chance, it gets for the championship game.
It's the best out of three. Tonight's the third game.
They lost the first game, they won the second game,
and now they played tonight for the championship. Yeah. So
I think they're going out to like three or four
now titles. They've been kind of the dominating team in

(05:19):
the Packers League. So we'll have him at three fifteen.
He was good last time he was on. And then
at four to seventeen we're gonna have Dave Cosgrove, the
soccer coach at at Pima. One of the best soccer
teams in the country. At this level, they're number four
in the country, going in pretty much in the top
four or five in the last few years after winning
a couple of titles.

Speaker 4 (05:41):
Last season, the only lost like two games, right right,
lived and didn't win it.

Speaker 2 (05:45):
Yeah, Kim short, that's the last few years that's happened.
It's tough, man, it's tough.

Speaker 4 (05:50):
You can ask him about what might be that that
final push over the hill.

Speaker 2 (05:54):
Right Okay? Yeah, we'll talk to you all of them
to ask you that. You can ask that question. Coach
some of that that's over the hill stuff. Hopefully we
can get over the hill in the show. Hey do that? No,
Bardy over that hill trying to fetch a pail of water, baby,
and both of you guys, ain't Jill. It's fun. It's funny, really, Jill, Jill,

(06:20):
sign one of you. If you guys want to call
us and help us five to two oh four one
four forty, that's cool. It's so we got about five
minutes anyway, No, we got Timnis Howard. If you want
to wasted ten minutes, go ahead.

Speaker 3 (06:34):
Did you guys watch any preseason No?

Speaker 4 (06:36):
No, I kept up with it because of the Broncos.
I'll keep up with anything Broncos. I think they go next,
let up with safety. And then that was about it.
I think it was the thirty unanswered points from the
Broncos for the good or for the bad. For the good,
So Niners went up I think nine zero after that safety.

(06:56):
Uh and then you had Broncos score thirty straight.

Speaker 3 (07:00):
To watch first half of games, so what did you see?
What did you see from that game?

Speaker 2 (07:06):
For many games just this preseason.

Speaker 3 (07:09):
And uh, well, I don't know.

Speaker 5 (07:12):
I just feel like I watched that game specifically because
it was like right after we had gotten back or
I had got back to my house from from the
boxing thing we went to, and uh yeah, but I
don't know, it looked like Boz Knicks was having a
hard time still obviously like it's the preseason, so it's
like I can't really tell, but it's just interesting to see, how,

(07:32):
you know, some guys look like I think Jackson Dart
had a couple of good plays in his Giants I
guess kind of debut shoudore. Everybody's kind of talking about
how he did, and I'm you know, I thought he
did alright too.

Speaker 4 (07:45):
That New York quarterback competition is very interesting in my eyes. Yeah,
because right now it seemed like Russell Wilson, look at
the nod just given his experience, I have a little
bit of bias to that name. It comes to his excess.
You know, they didn't do real well for the Broncos. Yeah,
so I'd like to see someone else out there for
the Giant Smiles them. But Jackson Dark did really good.

(08:09):
James Winston did good. I think there was even a
fourth quarterback that did really good. Yeah, Jameis Winston.

Speaker 3 (08:15):
He did well.

Speaker 4 (08:17):
But I want to I want to know if the
Schadur hype is real. Well, I didn't seem did you
see him?

Speaker 3 (08:23):
Yeah, yeah I was. I was watching it.

Speaker 2 (08:26):
Well, go ahead, and I was going to use my
usual qualifier.

Speaker 3 (08:29):
Okay, I think I will.

Speaker 5 (08:32):
It's tough to tell if he's real just because of
you know, like it's going to get second stringers for
the most part. I think one part that kind of
did look good is that he looked comfortable. He he
you know, it didn't look like it was too fast
for him, you know what I mean. It looked like, yeah,
like I said, like he was kind of like he
was kind of comfortable. Obviously, Panthers got him off his
spot a couple of times, but overall, I think they'll

(08:55):
be all right, very athletic.

Speaker 2 (08:57):
Yeah, we all know that, right, fourth stringers.

Speaker 4 (08:59):
Still, I wasn't sure if that would translate to the
NFL his his athleticism as a quarterback, but it clearly
showed his ability to keep the play alive.

Speaker 2 (09:09):
Well, you know, he has good at the football IQ quarterback,
I Q fourth string right, even if Dylan whatever his
name is, h well.

Speaker 5 (09:20):
It's tough to tell because they're both like him. I mean,
Dylan was hurt. Dylan is hurt, he's dealing with the
hamstring thing. And then obviously Deshaun isn't coming back with
his achilles being retorn in like March or something like that. Yeah,
so I mean maybe yeah you think thicket, Yeah, so
like third string. But it's like you're seeing him like
you know what I mean, Like he's getting the time

(09:41):
with the guys. So I think it's tough to say
that he isn't gonna, you know.

Speaker 2 (09:46):
To me's factor. Yeah, just maybe a practice guy for now.
For now, I don't know. I couldn't tell you how
good quarterback is gonna be. I really like bo Nicks though,
when he was in Oregon, I thought he's better than Panics.

Speaker 4 (10:00):
Yeah, Jay Jay was pretty adamant about that.

Speaker 2 (10:03):
Wasn't he was? He was panic? He was a Panics guy.
Oh really, I think he was always the bow guy.
Oh good choice. Well, we just don't know about Panis.
I mean he's an older dude, Lefty, got a lot
of nice, nice touch, all that stuff.

Speaker 4 (10:16):
I think he'll be good. I think he should be
starting for the Falcons this season, right, yeah, giving him
a full season, giving him the opportunity. I think it
will be good for him and good for the Falcons.

Speaker 2 (10:25):
Really. Yeah, you watched it because you have nothing else
to do. No, I like football, okay, because I don't
watch you because it does immediate thing. Yeah, and uh,
I like to see the guys too, you know what
I mean?

Speaker 5 (10:35):
Like, I like to like So it's like I want
to see who the backups are in case, you know, stuff,
stuff goes down.

Speaker 2 (10:41):
Yeah, you're not.

Speaker 4 (10:42):
You just you're like me, only only with my team.
Really yeah, I'll.

Speaker 2 (10:46):
Watched the and started buying getting the parade ready, I've
done the Yeah, yeah, come now, okay, crush Orange, Crush Orange.
You weren't even alive when that happened.

Speaker 4 (11:01):
No, but I was alive for the No Fly Zone,
which is really good what year was that, twenty? I
think really that was like twenty thirteen through twenty sixteen.

Speaker 2 (11:11):
Really good defense. Okay, Calvin Harris on that one lead.
Oh glad. You guys remember names, remember yours? You know.

Speaker 3 (11:23):
I was Uberin.

Speaker 5 (11:24):
I was Uberin on I think Saturday after the game
and I was talking to this guy who was Cowboys
guy and he was like, oh, well, I should just
get out the car right now. And I was like, dude,
were you alive in the nineties. He was like no,
and I was like, well, it's not a rivalry then, because.

Speaker 2 (11:38):
You have stuff like your car that says something.

Speaker 1 (11:41):
No.

Speaker 3 (11:41):
We just started talking ball. We just started talking ball.

Speaker 5 (11:43):
And he's like, yeah, I'm a Cowboys fan. And I
was like and like, you know, I told him I
was a Niners fan and stuff like that. He's like,
I'm just get out right now. And I was like,
I mean when I can't ever like since I've been alive,
you know what I mean?

Speaker 2 (11:56):
Oh yeah, yeah. I used the same thing with Jay
on basketball end though Cowboys. Yeah. It's funny. There's a
thing on TikTok or Instagram whatever a woman talking to
her boyfriend. He's watching he has Dallas Cowboys Jersey on
what was she talking about?

Speaker 5 (12:11):
Thirty years of consistent of consistent like snow, yes, yeah,
every times a year.

Speaker 4 (12:17):
Knowing in Alaska for thirty years straight at least one day.
Would you bet this year that it was now in
Alaska Cowboys haven't won in thirty years? You bet, you
bet it's a third year. It's a perfect one. That's
the that's the lot that you got use this Arizona.
Yea Arizona if it's been hot in Tucson for twenty

(12:39):
five years, Actually have a question about that, which so
you know, we consider Oregon this great team.

Speaker 3 (12:44):
Would you call him a blue blood in football?

Speaker 6 (12:47):
No?

Speaker 3 (12:47):
No, no, because of the championship, you haven't.

Speaker 2 (12:49):
Yeah, they're a very good program, right No, yeah, okay,
I mean there's no shame in being a solid good
program in Arizona basketball, there's no shame. But if you're
blue blood, you go to the dance lot, sure you
know you order to lose and you were blue that
didn't happening. Honestly, dude, just like me, I I how
can you say this? Stupid? Of course I can't. No, no, no,

(13:15):
because to be stupid and I want to say I've
never stopped you before. I want to stay on the

Steve Rivera He's got his eye on the ball on
Tucson Sports Station Fox Sports fourteen fifty.

Speaker 2 (17:49):
Hey, welcome back to One on the Ball here on
Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve Rivera, and today with
me is one set from Asydesert Swarm got rid of
control and now we have Sean McNeil from the Two
Sons Sorrows, the manager of the Sars. How you doing, Sean,
I'm doing well. How are you? Guys? We're doing fine?
You got you got what T minus three and a

(18:11):
half hours before you play? What's the what's the vibe like?

Speaker 14 (18:17):
Just trying to stay relaxed, right, I mean Game three
championship guys myself you went. You know, your nerves they
come out and everything. But I think the big thing
for us is just staying relaxed.

Speaker 2 (18:32):
You guys. Wont it how many times? Three total? Yes?

Speaker 14 (18:36):
We won it in three. Two of them were with
me personally. The other one was back in twenty sixteen
with the first manager of the Souaros.

Speaker 2 (18:44):
His name was JD.

Speaker 3 (18:45):
Droddy.

Speaker 2 (18:46):
So are you did you win it last year?

Speaker 14 (18:50):
No, no, we didn't. We actually got eliminated, I want
to say, in the divisional round, just on a walk
off Flare and Extra Indians, which was tough. And as
much as that's tough, right, when I build these teams
each year, I always expect to go to the championship
and win.

Speaker 13 (19:10):
Uh.

Speaker 14 (19:10):
Since I've taken over, we've gone to five championships in
six years now, including this year. So you know, UH,
just getting here isn't enough for me. Sure, I want
to win it for two songs.

Speaker 2 (19:25):
Let me ask you, so this roster, of whatever number
you'll give me the number, how many have returned from
previous teams that have gotten this far?

Speaker 14 (19:35):
Gotten this far?

Speaker 2 (19:35):
Let's see.

Speaker 14 (19:36):
Off the top of my head, I can I can
think of six right off the top of my head.
Two guys were with me in twenty twenty one where
we lost game one and came back and won game
two and game three. And then for the guys we
were we actually played San Rafael back in twenty three.

(19:58):
We lost game one one game too, but just couldn't
finish the job in game three lost I believe three
to one. Had a bunch of guys in scoring position
just just couldn't hit that night.

Speaker 4 (20:10):
You talk about the loss from last season, was that
kind of the motivation going into this current season and
is this kind of what drove you to get you
where you are today?

Speaker 15 (20:21):
Yeah?

Speaker 14 (20:21):
Yeah, right, because I mean it's tough, right because when
we lost that game against stal Pine in the divisional rounds,
it was two out, two count, man on second and
we just gave them a pitch that they were able
to hit, and they hit it up the middle to
tie it. We go to extra innings and they ended

(20:43):
up hitting a flare over our second baseman's head for
us to lose the game, and they went on to
win the championship. And I always feel like, or I've
always felt like that if we would have you know,
closed that out in the bottom of the ninth and
we would have gone on and won that championship back
in back last year, in the.

Speaker 4 (21:00):
First two games they were they were very close. Uh
what do you what do you what do you think?
What are some of the keys to get a win tonight?

Speaker 14 (21:09):
It's gonna be our pigeon staff, right like San Rafael,
we didn't know what to expect coming in. They've shown
that they can definitely hit the ball. But if we're
able to shut their offense down, I I truly believe
that we'll be able to just you know, just bludging
them to death.

Speaker 2 (21:27):
Of their bats.

Speaker 5 (21:30):
And so, you know, you talk about like two high
powered offenses. What are you guys thinking, like kind of
in the dugout, you know, to you know, keep up
with the scoring output that Sam Refail has shown in
the first two games.

Speaker 14 (21:45):
Really, the mentality was, uh, you know, one pitch at
a time, right when each pitch, we can't we can't
like look at the score at the current moment, just
because right, like things can change in a in an instance, right,
we were winning twelve twelve, ten gave up seven runs
just because of their high powered offense. So we're losing

(22:06):
I believe, thirteen twelve, and then we end up scoring
three in the eighth so we can close it out
in the nins. I mean, things can change. So we
just try to think one pitch at a time.

Speaker 2 (22:15):
How does the field, your home field play a part,
because you guys know the facility, you know the you
know the angles, things like that. It's a big ballpark.
You guys probably know how to play it.

Speaker 14 (22:28):
Yeah, No, so it's definitely beneficial for us, right because
the team I always keep in mind, like, hey, we
play at Keno, We're gonna need fast outfielders. If if
I'm trying to build a team that hits home runs,
we're gonna have to have guys that can you know,
have the power to do it. Where San Rafael, I've
been to that field, Like I said back in twenty three,

(22:50):
it's a smaller park. A lot of if you look
at their stats, a lot of them have a lot
of home runs there. But I don't I believe that
they don't have this strength to hit it out of Tucson.
So they're gonna have to hit doubles and triples to
get extra base hits and and I don't think the
home runs will really affect affect us against them. But

(23:12):
but yeah, no, the park, knowing the wind, knowing how
big it is, you know, just building to the team
to that stadium helps tremendously.

Speaker 2 (23:21):
Yeah. Let mean if I could, Uh, you've been here
for a while now, Tusons have had a few championships
and a lot of success. How does the city acknowledge
the success or do they we get some acknowledgment?

Speaker 14 (23:37):
Right, because we're relatively you know, small operations. Even though
we're in Tucson and it's it's tough. I mean, we
get then, uh the I'm losing to work for it,
but we get acknowledged, you know, through you guys, through
the radio, through K Gun nine, the Sugar Skulls started

(23:58):
acknowledging us.

Speaker 2 (24:00):
Know.

Speaker 14 (24:02):
Unfortunately, there's not really a huge budget to to market ourselves,
so it's a lot of word of mouth and you know,
it's it's tough, but you know, a lot of fans
come out. They'll post on Instagram. We post on Instagram
and you know Facebook as well, same thing. It's so

(24:22):
so we're not really recognized a ton, but we're out
there for for Tucson.

Speaker 2 (24:28):
Yeah. So so I think we had this discussion before
because I'm from Santa Fe, the Santa Fe Fuerreal, Uh,
you know, it gets a lot of publicity. It's a
small town. This must be the biggest market then than
any of the other teams. Yeah, I would say sure.

Speaker 14 (24:44):
On the Mountain side. I mean, I guess you could say, like, oh,
maybe the Bay Area, but they have like five teams
over there. So I would say we are the biggest,
the biggest market in the league.

Speaker 2 (24:55):
So sometimes you get lost in that in that shuffle
a little bit. Yeah. I mean there's.

Speaker 14 (25:02):
There's there's a lot of good sports out here. I
mean the big one is the U of A right
like you a baseball, ubate, basketball, you have a you
have a football, right like, we get lost in that
because I understand it's a big college town and you know,
you of a. They they have great things going for
them over there too, So it thinks that we get

(25:27):
we get mixed or lost in the sauce a little bit.
But you know, eventually people will hear us and when
they come out to a game, they see how great
it is, and then they usually come back game after game.

Speaker 4 (25:38):
Can you kind of talk to me about man, excuse
me if I mispronounced his first name, but Gaby Perez
Torres thirteen home runs, seventy four RBIs. Can you talk
about what he means to this team?

Speaker 14 (25:49):
He means everything is the team, right. I would say
he's the captain of the team, dere jeter of our
team if you want to use a Yankees reference. A
lot of guys follow his leadership with to be honest
with you, right, like his beast grade in the lineup
he's uh, defensively a stud Without him, like, I don't,
I don't know if we we win the the series

(26:13):
against Garden City because he made a web gym play
to to like you know, the in the end or
to actually get two Outsy ended up elevating I think
three or four feet off the ground just to snag
a ball out with bases loaded, which was huge for
us and kill the momentum for Garden City. But just
his leadership behind uh, his leadership with the team right.

Speaker 2 (26:40):
Is huge.

Speaker 14 (26:40):
Right, guys follow him and I wouldn't one another another
shortstop like him. I honestly also believe he's the best
shortstop in the league.

Speaker 4 (26:48):
So he'll be in the spotlight tonight and possibly make
a game winning play. But who's someone that could be
an X factor and maybe make another game winning play
and to to push you towards open tonight.

Speaker 14 (27:02):
I mean, honestly, you could say anybody could be for
this team right during this playoff series, I believe I've
used every single person on the lineup, even if they're
not you know, in the game to start the game.
We have guys that come in late in the game,
in the seventh, eighth, ninth, you know, going to For example,

(27:26):
we've been platooning Brian Lodesma and Jan Rivera where comes
in defensively for the anywhere from the seventh to eighth
or ninth inning. We've started doing that with Logan Myers
to make defensive plays for us. Anybody could rise up
for this team. I mean, it's not just one player
on why we're here in the championship. It's it's all

(27:47):
of them, even our pitching staff too, like they're the
reason why we're there as well. So it could be
an offensive hit, it could be a defensive play, or
it could be a pitch that's made in a key situation.
These guys they're all playing for each other and and
any one of them could be the hero tonight.

Speaker 5 (28:04):
So you talked about like, you know, you got I
think you said, six veterans coming back that have won
a championship with you before.

Speaker 3 (28:12):
What do you think it is about?

Speaker 5 (28:13):
You know, maybe you the organization Tucson as a talent itself.
That kind of makes players want to gravitate to like hear.

Speaker 14 (28:23):
Well, first it's gonna be the winning tradition, right, That's
what makes theone to come. They hear about how many
wins we've had since I've taken over. We hear about
or they hear about, you know, sports complex. But even
though those are all nice things, what really I think
matters is it's just the standard that we hold, right,

(28:45):
Like I tell a lot of people that I don't
come out here from Philadelphia just the babysit and you know,
just play baseball. If I'm going to come out here,
I want to go and go to championships, and I
want to win championships. And I think every player likes
the opportunity to do that, and that's what I think

(29:05):
makes some gravitate over here, just having the opportunity just
to play for a championship and possibly win one.

Speaker 2 (29:14):
So we talked about this briefly, I think last last
time you were on So what's next for you outside
of the last tonight's game. What's because you know you
have aspirations obviously moving up or or finding a spot,
what's next.

Speaker 14 (29:28):
Well, for career wise, I'm gonna tell you, right, someone
has to give me a call. Obviously I'll go out
and reach out to a few teams as well, But
after this game, it's gonna be you know, relaxed for
a little bit and Tucson. Wait for my girlfriend to
fly back out because she's here for the series. And

(29:48):
once we're done, maybe uh have a little get together
with the players, have a get together with the whole
Tucson souorro staff that you know, do the stuff that
everybody doesn't see, and you know, drive back to Philadelphia.

Speaker 2 (30:03):
Yeah, okay, okay, Well good luck tonight. What kind of
crowd do you hope and or maybe you expect.

Speaker 14 (30:09):
I'm hoping that we can get to most of Tucson
out right, Like I mean, we have a stadium that
holds ten thousand people. I know that we're not really
well known, but you know, tell your friends, tell your family,
come on out right. We need all the support we
can get. You know this, because this is Game three,
you will guys won't have baseball until I believe the

(30:30):
Tucson baseball team starts. Yes, but in the meantime you
might as well, sure, you know, come out enjoy this
great series and help us win a championship tonight.

Speaker 2 (30:39):
Yeah, good for you. And the tickets are what pretty reasonable,
aren't they really?

Speaker 14 (30:44):
Yeah, they're they're ten dollars ten dollars a ticket, and
I believe if a child is under five, they get
in for free.

Speaker 2 (30:51):
Okay, well cool, good luck coach. We appreciate your time.
We'll see what happens tonight. Be the coach.

Speaker 14 (30:57):
Thank you, appreciate it. You guys have a good one.

Speaker 2 (30:59):
You tre Tucson Tomorrows. I've been to what game. It's
been a while since I've been to a game, but
Tucson Baseball has been Benny Betty, good to you tomorrow.
It's a great name.

Speaker 3 (31:11):
I don't turn five until next week, so.

Speaker 2 (31:13):
We get you a free You might have to box.

Speaker 4 (31:19):
Tell you the little bit the pre show to the
to the championship game.

Speaker 2 (31:23):
Yeah, yeah, call him a little pirate.

Speaker 3 (31:24):
I'll be on the undercardroeh, whatever you said.

was capable until he wasn't and then you know.

Speaker 4 (36:30):
Even or even did think it was just circumstantial.

Speaker 2 (36:32):
Yeah, well yeah, but it should have been changed way
before that.

Speaker 4 (36:37):
Probably, Oh my mind, who would have Who knew at
that point? Jude Fish did he? Well, I think it
was for a couple probably a couple of weeks it was.
It was well, we'll see how well Yeah, no, but
that looks when he comes back.

Speaker 2 (36:53):
Yeah, he had no he was doing a great job.
He was being a politician.

Speaker 3 (36:55):
He was being a politician, maybe trying to like throw
the team off to you know.

Speaker 4 (37:03):
Right nowadays, Yeah, because you sense Tua made that championship
throw Teams have to prepare for two quarterbacks. That's very realistically,
there's any any chance of that second quarterback getting in.

Speaker 2 (37:17):
To me, to me and I have no credentials to
be a head coach anywhere, blah blah blah. If you're
good enough to beat this dude or that dude, you're
good enough to beat that team. Whether you prepare for
this guy or that guy, you still have to prepare
for whatever. I know. That makes no sense. It's like
asking Miss America, what do you think about world peace? Oh?

(37:37):
I want it? Don't die? Yeah, you know what I'm
saying you prepare it, because you prepare it whether you
get this guy or that guy.

Speaker 4 (37:44):
To me, to be honest, that's what makes the great
teams great teams, because it really won't matter who's exactly,
they still have to just you exactly. But who knows,
I mean the circumstances of the events where that de
Lauo played to this point, No, it took over and
they rode the way back. Yeah, who knows. Maybe done
it before, it would not have happened that way. You know,

(38:05):
the butterfly attacked or whatever. It just things changed for.

Speaker 2 (38:08):
A reason, you know.

Speaker 4 (38:09):
Yeah, that was that was a very close game at
the time between Stanford and Arizona. It kind of looked
like maybe Arizona would find their footing finally and then
Stanford would keep making plays. Right, I think in my eyes,
Arizona was the way clearly the better team that day.
Stanford was just happening today. But they didn't end their way.

Speaker 2 (38:28):
No, I know, it came in and they played harder
than they won.

Speaker 3 (38:30):
That was the same year Stanford took Colorado to No
they beat.

Speaker 2 (38:34):
Them no before. Yeah, like that was last year. I
think that was last year. That was your last year
but this one was two years ago, right, because I
remember that game they had them.

Speaker 3 (38:43):
They had yeah, yeah.

Speaker 2 (38:45):
Stanford came back and scored all that was. That was
the same year.

Speaker 3 (38:48):
That was the same year.

Speaker 5 (38:49):
Yeah, I think it might have been because it was
when Colorado State gave them trouble too and Colorado State
didn't given.

Speaker 2 (38:54):
That was not last year. It was two years ago,
so god, I thought that was last year. Yeah, because
the twelve yeah Colorado was yeah, yeah, you're right, because yeah, right,
that was a great game.

Speaker 3 (39:08):
That was God.

Speaker 4 (39:09):
I missed Pack twelve after dark. I know most of
the country doesn't, but I miss it because it was exciting.

Speaker 2 (39:16):
Oh it was. It was a little there was.

Speaker 4 (39:19):
A little push at the end of the day to
get you through a full day of college football at eleven.

Speaker 2 (39:26):
Another Rob Coke, please exactly. I actually that's a great
day for my eyes.

Speaker 5 (39:31):
I actually watched that Stanford game at like downtown at
the bar. Like I was like, I was like I
went out, like just playing, trying to go out, and
then like I checked the score and I was like,
I'm pulling this game up on my phone.

Speaker 2 (39:41):
She was go by in a blur to me because
I remember that I was the house watching it and
they were up by twenty some Yeah, there was thirty
five or thirty five, I think it was what it
were it was, And there was a game like that.

Speaker 4 (39:51):
I think it was right before LSU went in their
championship run with Burrow. They had I think they put
at Texas A and M. They went into like eight
eight nine overtimes. There was an Arizona game that day
here we had. I left that game and came back home.
I was like, all this game done, and I said, oh,
it's still going wow. And then that was I think

(40:13):
that at that point they had just gone into overtime.
I think I was getting dinner, eating dinner. I looked
again and I said, I wonder who one it's still
going on?

Speaker 2 (40:21):
Yeah. I love those games.

Speaker 5 (40:24):
Yeah, it's a good and a bad feeling. You're like, oh, man,
I left, but it's like, hey, great game still.

Speaker 2 (40:28):
Yeah, you know, but anybody want to call five two
four one forty uh yeah, most questions because Colorado kind
of went into the tank after not after that, but
that was kind of the tank after that, and you
can kind of see there was some issues with that team.

Speaker 4 (40:44):
Yeah, especially defensively.

Speaker 2 (40:46):
M hmm.

Speaker 4 (40:47):
Yeah, I think they gave Arizona one last bit of
their run for the season.

Speaker 2 (40:52):
And yeah, because they beat Colorado.

Speaker 4 (40:55):
Yeah, Arizona beat Colorado, but I think that was to
keep them alive for a bowl game possibly and stayed
their season. Yeah, and obviously Arizona got the the happy ending.

Speaker 2 (41:06):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (41:07):
Man, I'm so excited for college football. I like it
more than the pros, do you.

Speaker 5 (41:13):
Yeah, just like, don't get me wrong, love the Niners,
and I don't know if there's a team that comes
close to that kind of love, you know what I mean.

Speaker 3 (41:20):
But as a sport overall, Yeah, college football, any game, Yeah.

Speaker 5 (41:27):
I mean there's some games that always stick out, you know,
Like I said, an alarm for red River like every year,
and I have no allegiance to that school, like either
of those schools, you know what I mean. No, it's
too early because it usually starts like at nine or
something like that.

Speaker 4 (41:42):
Affection of that game. Yeah, so right after college game
Day it kicks off.

Speaker 3 (41:46):
Yeah, I don't need to call in sick for that one.

Speaker 5 (41:48):
But like you know, it's just I mean there's just
games that come out of nowhere, you know what I mean.

Speaker 3 (41:52):
It's like why, why?

Speaker 5 (41:55):
Why is mactionin going to like twelve o'clock with like
seven OT's, you know, between Toledo and like Western Kentucky.

Speaker 3 (42:02):
You know what I mean. It's like I gotta be
a sick to watch.

Speaker 2 (42:05):
That, and that's where you are. I agree?

Speaker 4 (42:10):
Yeah, yeah, by that I used to be like you
guys used to Yeah, what's that one guy's name? Place
it for that one team? Yeah, guys that wouldn't paid attention?
Train again you remind me of you're trying to remind
me of Bill Walton with the past. Dave is that
your name? Let's talk about the Wow Cats in the.

Speaker 2 (42:33):
Wars, road Runners, the State Bird, Give me a cake,
put a candle on it, tows Man.

Speaker 4 (42:42):
What a team champ playing for the championship to a
great sun nor in desert?

Speaker 2 (42:48):
Dave Right, Steve Right.

Speaker 3 (42:52):
It's a cool guy. He came in the King Fisher
a couple of times, did he?

Speaker 2 (42:55):
Yea?

Speaker 3 (42:56):
Just like before games like you do his game prep there,
eat some dinner?

Speaker 2 (42:58):
Yeah cool, Yeah, that's cool. Anybody want to call please
save us? I'm one sty Are you guys looking forward
to the football season? Like my boys here are uh
two weeks right? What are we?

Speaker 4 (43:13):
That's almost two and a half, I believe two and
a half weeks, the thirtieth what times the game seven
seventh to seven.

Speaker 2 (43:19):
It'll be good. It'll be nice in ninety eight if
it doesn't get any hotter again, be nice in the
the skybox, the skybox though, it'll be you know, the
sun will be kind of down. Yeah, skybox will be done.

Speaker 4 (43:30):
And the first game of the season is always good
as far as like stadium.

Speaker 2 (43:34):
Yeah, what's the next game? We were state? Yeah, got
a Friday or Saturday. That's a Saturday, and then the
stays on Friday. That's the fifteenth dish. Uh around that
tall tall? Okay, I should have should to make my
days here.

Speaker 4 (43:48):
Okay, see what but the students always show out the
zone as it was always full for that first game.
You get a lot of freshmen. It'start first yeah, yeah,
first game, and then nowhere else to go, yeah, exactly,
and then you know, sause they're not gonna let him
into Bob Dubs.

Speaker 2 (44:03):
Right right into the other places with a fake, fake ideas.
I never had one, I know, mister.

Speaker 11 (44:13):
No.

Speaker 4 (44:14):
I always look the part so and I never had
that issue that again, I always looked the part.

Speaker 2 (44:19):
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, with your beards in your Yeah.
You have an older brother. Yeah, what's his name, Louise?
Louise said, I know you don't look like Louis.

Speaker 4 (44:30):
You know a lot of people think we're twins, but
I don't think so.

Speaker 3 (44:34):
You're never gonna take that with your brother.

Speaker 4 (44:35):
No, I'm more round her, more round her, Yeah, more spherical.
He's he's tall vertically, I'm tall horizontal.

Speaker 2 (44:46):
You're the zero in the ten. Yeah, he's the one. Yeah,
something like that. You're in shape, You're in shape. I'm
a shape, Yeah, a shape round. We didn't I put
that one back? And no more call you a different name,
different hispanic name. He doesn't know. Yes, there's no way

(45:08):
you have to fig. There's no way because Bobby so
would beat up. Especially.

Speaker 4 (45:14):
Here's the thing, though, she always said, never get caught.

Speaker 2 (45:17):
I don't care what you do. Just don't know. If
you get caught, then I'll be The lines are open,
give us a car. Let me know if your son's
lying to me. I would never I know you would.
That's why Ray knows exactly.

Speaker 5 (45:33):
Hey, those Friday nights when he was saying that he
was out of sleepover, you better believe he was.

Speaker 3 (45:38):
He was sleeping at the sleepover.

Speaker 2 (45:45):
For you, I'm not so sure.

Speaker 3 (45:47):
I didn't need a fake. You just gotta have the confidence.
Man s got that stre.

Speaker 2 (45:53):
No sergeant, he'd been in the army. Dude, he knows
that he knows the trick the walk.

Speaker 5 (45:57):
Oh man, they could, oh man, that it's because the birthday.
It's hard to find a birthday on a military idea.

Speaker 2 (46:04):
Yes, yes it is.

Speaker 5 (46:05):
Yeah, if you don't know where to look because it's
not it's not it's on the front. It's not in
the front, it's in the back. So like and it's
like you gotta know where to look in the back.
So it's like, you know, people will be flipping it
over and like you know, if you give them a look,
they're like, all right, just take it.

Speaker 2 (46:21):
I don't want to waste some time looking for it.
Exactly cool. I didn't know that. I wonder my son
was out bright to sports maybe yes, why not? Well,
we're just shooting theeze.

Speaker 4 (46:36):
Someone needs to call in, Someone needs to any predictions
for the Sarah's on a football season?

Speaker 2 (46:42):
Yeah, Vic and my boy, Howard and my boy.

Speaker 3 (46:46):
That's not to say, man, we're.

Speaker 2 (46:49):
Just kind of jibber jabb I need to be to
say like this to be Tomorrow, we're gonna have uh,
we're gonna have a surprise guest, but his name is
Mike Dunlap said, bring a bell, do you guys? Probably not?
Former UA basketball assistant coach, a head coach back in
two thousand and nine, he was with Russ Pennell. He's
gonna be on the show tomorrow. Haven't had him on

(47:09):
the show. One of the smartest guys I've ever met,
very Bright, took over for lut when Lute declared his
his retirement. So we'll have him, and then we're gonna
have Chuck Culpepper from The Washington Post back in the day. Yeah, yeah,
you guys have been here with Chuck.

Speaker 3 (47:30):
No, I don't think so.

Speaker 2 (47:31):
Chuck cool dude, great writer The Rosston Post covers college football.

Speaker 4 (47:35):
Be maybe b Yeah. What was that day like when
Luke decided to retire? Was it great?

Speaker 13 (47:43):
No?

Speaker 6 (47:44):
Uh?

Speaker 13 (47:44):
No.

Speaker 2 (47:44):
Earlier in the morning, Dick Fartel had broken the news
that he was going to retire. You could kind of
sense in the previous days that he something was up,
but Dick Fartel broke it early in the morning. They
had a press commence later that afternoon, Jim Live and Good.
They announced it to be a paper. Then Jim liven
Goood had an announcement outside of Michale and uh, that

(48:07):
was it. I mean it was like, you know, holy crap,
when when he when he took a leave of absence
maybe a year or so before, you know, he thought
he'd come back. But like, this is my lead to
the story. Uh, and it was the lead was more
of a James Taylor quote. I've seen sunshine, I've seen rainy,
and I thought this would never end. That's how I felt,

(48:29):
because it was so long, so good for so many years,
and you're thinking, hell, this could last forever, and obviously didn't.
He was getting old, I had complications health wise and
things like that, and that was it. And then the
UAY scrambled, you know, Kevin O'Neal was hired and fired,
Mike Dunlap and Pennell were hired to replaced with Reggie Geary.

(48:53):
And then after that year there's a guy named Sean
Miller that came in great higher just didn't work out
to the yeah, to the championship Games.

Speaker 5 (49:03):
So he's crazy how that goes when you see like
an era of like a team doing really well and
then like coach retires or player retires, and it's just
like North.

Speaker 2 (49:12):
Carolina did the same thing with god Dean Smith. You
know he retired. Who's the last team to beat Dean Smith, Arizona, Yeah,
beat him in the ninety seventh tournament. He retired after that.

Speaker 5 (49:27):
That's how I felt, like when Tom Brady retired, like
when he got sent to which time, well, when he
got sent to Tampa is a better way to put it.

Speaker 2 (49:33):
Yeah, that was just a changing girlfriends.

Speaker 5 (49:36):
Yeah, well, it was just crazy because it's like, man,
you watch it like, you know, watching them since I
was a kid.

Speaker 3 (49:40):
Yeah, you know what I mean.

Speaker 2 (49:41):
That's how that's how you think because to me, well
hear me, I'm ready to see the sunset, but to me,
I don't care. Yeah, for you was kind.

Speaker 5 (49:50):
Of well yeah, because it's like a period in type
well because it was like one, it was like twenty
something years almost, and then two it's like you see
the success, not even just the success, but all so
like the change in philosophies in the sport, you know
what I mean, because it used to be such a
like obviously is like defense run heavy and then he
kind of went through that transition where it was like,

(50:12):
you know, not obviously not like completely air raid, but
it's like a little bit more spread out, you know
what I mean. You start seeing motions a bit more
and stuff like that, and it's just like he thrived
in both of those errors.

Speaker 3 (50:22):
It was just crazy to me.

Speaker 2 (50:23):
Right, right, Well he was good. He was good. Yeah,
probably better, well, way better than people thought he would be.

Speaker 3 (50:28):
Yeah, for sure.

Speaker 5 (50:29):
It's I don't know, it's always surprising when and I
like that too, you know when people like come out
and like surprise everybody.

Speaker 2 (50:35):
Right, Yeah, who's the next surprise for the NFL? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (50:40):
Oh, and Daniel Colin is a surprised one Rookie of
the Year.

Speaker 2 (50:46):
But you know, longevity you gotta have. Yeah, you might
have one lightning the model. I don't think so.

Speaker 4 (50:51):
I don't think it's gonna be someone from that class. Yeah,
who Drake May I think that he was part of
that class. You have Nicks and Paniss.

Speaker 2 (51:02):
I really like the way he played. He's older, right,
he's bigger, smart, fast.

Speaker 5 (51:07):
I think it's like Bicks or Pendix because I don't know.
I don't trust you NC quarterbacks for the most part.

Speaker 4 (51:14):
Who else was in that class. I don't I'm trying
to remember. I'll take your bone nicks, I'll take the knicks. Yeah,
write it down on the board.

Speaker 7 (51:22):
J J.

Speaker 3 (51:22):
McCarthy was in that class. He's going to do it though.

Speaker 20 (51:24):
Yeah he did he play finally? Uh yeah he did
a little. Yeah yeah, uh didn't look great. No, no,
some ruster, Yeah, I mean it stuff to tell it
to you.

Speaker 2 (51:35):
I don't believe the rust either, by the way, the
thing scientifically.

Speaker 3 (51:40):
No, scientifically, it's not a thing. We're going to get
into that after No, why not?

Speaker 2 (51:45):
This is what they do for a living.

Speaker 3 (51:47):
I mean, but when he can't do it when you're.

Speaker 2 (51:49):
Hurt, right, But he's been doing it in practice field,
maybe James rust, Maybe I'll give you a little of that.
But they do what they do. I mean, it's like
when you go and you sit in the player team
sits because they're waiting for no gream oh the rust.
They do this every day. They don't there's no they're
not playing against that team, but they just haven't played.
They haven't played against them. They're playing against each other.

(52:11):
Does that make sense?

Speaker 3 (52:12):
Yeah, I think it does.

Speaker 2 (52:13):
It's like me walking down the stairs. I fere a
little rusty. Well, I just came up the stairs. Oh
the rust What the hell? I just came up the stairs.
It was fine.

Speaker 3 (52:23):
Yeah, that's fair.

Speaker 2 (52:25):
I guess if I can't get up or down the stairs,
then there's rust.

Speaker 3 (52:29):
Yeah, that's why he's the elevator.

Speaker 2 (52:33):
Let's go.
