I remember I had the five, I had six and six,
but they've caught fire. Like I said last week after
I saw I didn't see the game on Saturday, but
I was getting texts from Vic, who I hope calls in,
you know, doom and gloom Vic until it stopped, so

I figured everyone was okay. You know, resiscitation was fine
in the second half. But tell me the week before,
because we talked about you were here. The confidence, I thought,
not momentum, headstock confidence. They didn't have it in the
first half, or they had it and say, well how
was that?

Speaker 4 (03:12):
No, you know, I thought they played a good game
all around. I know they were down at halftime, but
the first half to me was more about trying to
slow down the ball and limit Baylor's possessions because you're
talking about a high powered offense, some injuries on defense,
so you're trying to feel them out and see where
they are offensively, trying to eat up clock, and you know,
you have a missfield goal here, and it kind of
kicked them in the butt. But seventeen fourteen at half,

that's not hard to overcome. It's not like you're down
seventeen points or anything like that.

Speaker 5 (03:41):
There was a stretch I think between the end of
the first half in the third quarter where I thought
the offense left a lot out on the field. Yeah,
and I thought that was going to come back to
bite them. But then the defense shows up and shuts
down Baylor completely, really for three quarters, because the fourteen
in the first quarter, fourteen points for Baylor in the

first quarter, and they didn't find the end zone again.

Speaker 4 (04:05):
And I'll add this on both Baylor's scoring drives, there
are two weird plays. One a fumble that goes out
of balance. Okay, Baylor goes on and scoring that drive,
but they fumbled the ball. Two a fumble that Arizona recovers,
but they call forward progress the moment the Arizona defenders
and Trading's Duke sit them clear fumble, clear fumble, but

they called it the moment of contact.

Speaker 2 (04:28):
Both of those scoring drives could have been prevented. I
mean it was. It wasn't great play by Baylor.

Speaker 5 (04:33):
And there were fourth down and third down pass interference penalties, which.

Speaker 2 (04:39):
I thought, I go fifty to fifty, I guess, but
I saw.

Speaker 4 (04:42):
The argument for it. I don't think it was they
were like, oh, that was a horrible call. I could
see the argument for it.

Speaker 2 (04:47):
So let me ask both of you this, and I'll
ask Jay this, and I'll ask whoever calls this, are
you believers in this team? One in Brennan? Two yes
and yes?

Speaker 6 (04:57):
What one?

Speaker 2 (04:59):
I think the changing of the staff.

Speaker 4 (05:01):
I think that's the biggest thing that Bret Brennan is
the firing that Dino Babers and watching Duwayne and Kina
leave the program and getting the right guys in place.
A young guy like Seth Dage who's more creative, Danny
Gonzalez that's been in DC before. No offense to Duwayne Kina,
he's a great defensive mind. He had never been a
defense coordinator before. So guys that know what they're doing

(05:21):
in that place, and can be innovative on the offensive
side of the ball. And then getting in recruiters like
Joe Salavea, like a Josh Springle, like these guys that
Josh Miller that are young and wanting to go out
there and recruit. I think that's number one for the
coaching staff and for the team. You look at the
sixty one new players that they brought in through the
transfer portal and the recruiting class, almost every single one

(05:46):
of those transfers hit in some way. Even a guy
like Ian Wagner, he's been great at holding snaps on
field goals and he's been one of the most efficient
kickoff kickers in the country. Transferred from Northern Illinois. Youngstown
isn't I thought it was Northern Illinois. It was something
going yeah, but out in that Midwest there somewhere else,
yeah yeah. But they hit on every single one of those.

(06:08):
And then you look at the depth at the offensive line.
They were banged up in that game. You saw Perez play,
You saw is to play, I mean East to play.
You saw a bunch of dudes that haven't played all season,
and they still went out there and kicked their butt
because they've been developing these guys, and these are guys
that they've gotten in the portal and through the recruiting classes.

Speaker 2 (06:27):
So you're seeing development.

Speaker 5 (06:29):
For the team. I'm a believer for the coach, Coach
Brandon not yet, Okay, I think I need to see
a little bit more sample size because this is a
very loaded team as far as ten years go and experience.
We saw it on Saturday, twenty eight seniors were honored,
so that you're a big majority of what comes out

(06:50):
onto the field because they're carrying the team. Yes, I believe,
so not to say that people are developing behind them,
but most of the plays being made this season have
been from the it's more experienced players. So what is
it going to look like next year? And okay, I
say that kind of whatever, because there's still games to play,
two more games, at least two more games.

Speaker 4 (07:12):
To play in this season, and it's it's gonna be
a tougher schedule next year.

Speaker 2 (07:16):
Exactly.

Speaker 4 (07:16):
You're not going to avoid Texas Stack, You're you're one
of your easy games is going to be West Virginia
on the road. It's gonna be tough.

Well, it's a good game, very good game. You know
we won, could have I mean, we could have won
by a lot more. We made. There was a couple
of just stupid mistakes we made. You know, the two
penalties they didn't cost us on the ones on the
touchdowns whatever happened, you know, taking the helmet off, and
the other one, you know, obraok zuberants I guess you know,

the personal fouls and also too, they did get a
touchdown on the drive. I do believe on the one
where they were they were going to go for fourth
it was fourth and sixth and they drew us off
side and they got then they wound up getting the
first down and then they went down and scored. But

(08:19):
that second half they were just amazing. Offense and defense
was just clicking. I was so impressed by the adjustments
made and how they came out and played in the
second half.

Speaker 2 (08:29):
Let me ask you, let me ask you this, ask
the guys this, and you probably heard the question, are
you a believer now in Brennan? Are you a believer
now in the team?

Speaker 3 (08:36):
On both both.

Speaker 2 (08:40):
Quick assessment on both.

Speaker 3 (08:43):
I think Brennan to me, if you look at what
he's done, I mean, I know he did have some
players last year, but he got in so late, wasn't
able to get maybe the coordinators he wanted or whatever,
and so he struggled to last year, got the people
he needed to turn this program around and got the
proper people to recruit. Done a fantastic job with that.

(09:04):
The quality of players he's gotten, you know, they bought
into this program, and I'm very impressed by him. I
think the team itself. You watch them play, and they
play with heart constantly. You know, they're even when they're down,
they're playing with heart. It's like, you know, even though
we might be down, I don't feel that we're out

(09:25):
of the game.

Speaker 2 (09:26):
Did you think four weeks in did you think four
weeks in there were three and one after the Iowa
State game if I'm correct, Did you think that you
would believe on the team and believe in the coach
at that time?

Speaker 3 (09:37):
Well, okay, the team know the coach, Yes, because it
was really truly this is his first year, because I
don't count last year because he got hired so late.
Everybody left, and you know, it's just it was just
pick up anything you can get to make a team.
But I think, you know what, I understand what he's

(09:57):
trying to do. I think it's fantastic job he's done.
I think maybe in the Big twelve you might look
at him as coach of the year. This team was
picked sixteenth in the conference.

Speaker 2 (10:07):
I remember it, and oh, yeah, you're right, there's.

Speaker 3 (10:12):
No yeah, well, I mean, you know, everybody basically, I
mean a lot of the other the national writers picked
us last. Okay, but but still we went out there
and what we've done. No other team has shown this
kind of improvement. I mean, okay, by us where they're
supposed to be. Texas Tech is where they're supposed to be,

(10:34):
hey issues, basically where they're supposed to be. You know,
all these teams above us are where they're supposed to be,
but not Arizona. Arizona started at the bottom and basically
has worked themselves up, you know, until the top five
of the conference. And if you look at their three losses,
one they got blown out, two other ones you know,

(10:56):
win both.

Speaker 2 (10:56):
I think Brian, you go to the games, correct, yes, okay,
So just we're not gonna we're gonna end it with
this question and just a quick quick thought on this
the crowd crowd size, because Jay's coming on later, but
what do you think it was small?

Speaker 3 (11:09):
It was small, you know, Okay, Okay, yeah it was.
It was maybe thirty. There might have been thirty thousand
there at the stadium maybe, Okay, you know.

Speaker 2 (11:17):
Okay, No, that's fair. Good to know, and I'm sure
that was disappointing. But we'll get to that point when
Jake comes on the show later. Thank you, brother, I
was always calling in thank you, Okay, yeah, I appreciate it. Yees.
So thirty is that about right? I would say about
thirty to thirty three, That's what I thought, Okay, I
would say giving.

I would give that thirty three towards the end of
the game when it starts, because it came.

Speaker 2 (11:38):
It kind of showed up late, very late. That's what
people do. Filling out is a generous word to call it. Yeah, yeah,
it just expanded a little expanded.

It was a good crowd given the average for this season. Yeah,
and what it's looked like this season. It's still a
bad crowd for a seventy and three team on senior Day, right,
That moved on take in three.

Speaker 2 (11:58):
I'm gonna be I'm gonna be honest.

I think the best crowd of the year was the
BYU game, and that was that was bad.

Speaker 2 (12:04):
I was there. I was there in the main by Yeah,
and they were in that corner or whatever it was,
and they bought a lot of people were on the
west side.

I was the can't stay real quick. Did you see
the BYUS Cincinnati game? Yeah, most of that stadium was
by Houston fans. So to the point of the traveling,
they do it so.

We'll get to the crowd here because we harp on
that a lot, maybe a little too much, but still
people are tired of see I see it on Twitter.
Oh you guys don't know what you're talking about. Good
the fans who go this is not about you. Congratulations guys.
You did a great job and continue to do a
great job. But there's a lot of factors. Over the weekend. Yesterday,
in fact, a couple of older people I know, older

than me, uh, gave up their tickets. They don't go anymore.
It's too difficult, the boring game of three hours, they said,
I'm using their words, three hours. They have to get
to the car, get to the events, get to the stairs,
get to the places. It's too much already. Yeah, I
get that. Hey, I was a fan for the Kansas
State game. I think I'm a fan, but I went.
It was hot. It was the hot day, and I
don't know if I can deal with this, you know,

eventually when the.

Sun of the Oklahoma State game, no, no, no, it
was the one recently Kansas, Kansas, Kansas, Yeah, okay.

Speaker 2 (13:11):
And I stayed there. It was hot, you know, blah
blah blah. I don't think I get it now. Sorry,
I messed up with saying this is horrible. But it
was hot. I survived it. What eighty forty degrees? I survived.
But I understand it's difficult for people to go in Tucson.
So there's that. There's a lot of factors, right, and
I don't know if I don't know if there are fixes.

I don't know if they're fix.

I think there's small fixes that can be done, but
at the end of the day, it's well, I don't
even know it's that, to be honest, because rich rod
won and it didn't matter. They couldn't draw anything during
the rich Roddy era, which makes no sense. I think
it is the fan base. It's just what it is. Yeah,
you know, we talk about it, and we again, you

said we're gonna have day on. But you know, if
you don't want to go, and you're not gonna go,
you're gonna have every excuse in there.

And then I've heard a lot of them. We've all

Oh, you know, you get comp tickets, so why are
you talking. I work people, that's called jobs. So you go.
You don't drink, you don't have fun, you work. Sorry,
I hate to tell you guys that. And then oh,
you know, the soda is too expensive. They have the
value of everything. Well that's not good enough.

I asked somebody though this weekend when he went for
the first time, he can understand why people don't go.
It's three hours. It's three hours that you can't get back.
But that's just for the game. You go an hour
before it's like waiting for a flight to get to
count to New York. You got to get to an
hour before you got to go to the game. You
go through the three hour flight, you got to your car,
you have another hour, a five hour deal. Now, I'll

I think the two things that they could fix that
would help, but it takes money to do these things. Yeah,
is fix the stadiums. Get rid of the bleachers. You
need to get rid of that. Yeah, on both sites,
both Yeah, you need to get rid of it. Zona
Zoom you could probably keep because the students are standing.

Whatever.

Number two is the transportation. Again, back in the day,
you used to have the sun trend. That would drop
you off to another issue. That helps out so many
people of the senior crowd of the group, and just
families too. When you're trying to move around with a
family of four, it's a little especially if you have
young kids, it's difficult to do that.

It's funny because they talked about this, we got to
go eighties, nineties and two thousand, blah blah blah. In
the eighties there were less on TV. Some people went, probably,
now you get you got a clitterd screen video. You
can take advantage for your two dollars beer in the
house that's in the fridge. You know what I'm saying.
It's more convenient for yourself, pizzas a lot cheaper. Yeaha yeha,

people at the BYU game. And the reason that attendance
was seven thousand more than all the other games because
of the BYU fans. Yeah, you know there were between

thirty and thirty five. Every game might have been under
thirty even a couple of them.

Yeah, oh, we were staking that was definitely under thirty.
Here's my problems.

But yeah, yeah, here's my problems. You and you were

We talk about the fans, and we and we talk
about the generous fans who show up and show out Right,

five to thirty thousand fans that go good for the
I mean, I love those guys and they come every game.
I see the same people at the tailgates every week.
You know, walking into the state, you will see all

ninety six ready, nine hundred ninety thousand, six hundred fans
or people in this town that don't go to the games.
There's a million people in this town, billion people in
this town. I think too. I think Phoenix and Tucson
are the two largest populations in the Big twelve. I'll
maybe use that. I get it, but well, I don't understand,

and you can't get forty five fifty thousand people in
the Bey game. There's got to be one hundreds of
thousands of U of A alumni here, there's what forty
thousand students and we can't get we can't do better
than what we're doing attendance.

Like you know what, I think it's time to have
a conversation about because they did this during the Ridge
rot era. They shrunked the Zona Zoo because they weren't
coming to games. It's time to expand again back to
what it was. Because if you're not if you're not
going to sell those tickets, give it to them.

good teams. People go to games and we in this

West Coast in general, over the last fifteen years, it's
been terrible trying to get people into it, trying to

matter if you're at Stanford, Washington, like you name it.

It's been West Coast people just don't give a crap

in twenty to this season, the Cats have a chance

that guy. And he's way more athletic than both of
