your most Prized possessions.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
Hey, good afternoon, everybody.

Speaker 3 (00:16):
Welcome to I on the Ball here on Fox Sports
fourteen fifteen. I'm Steve Rivera in the house with me
Blake Eager.

Speaker 4 (00:23):
My Wednesday Guy, Wednesday guy, That's why I've got to
that's a shirt you made me, right.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
I got.

Speaker 4 (00:28):
I got some on the ball T shirts though, do you?
But what's that you wear? Extra larger? Are you gonna
make me buy them for me? Like it did everything else?
I sold the book. They had to come with cash.

Speaker 2 (00:39):
You didn't help me with the books, so you had
to pay for the book. You help me with this.
I'll get you the prebe that's fair. But I want
to say, Wednesday, guy, were you whatesday?

Speaker 3 (00:47):
What guy?

Speaker 2 (00:47):
Were you when you pitched? Whenever? Guy? No, I was
number two, number two, number two, number three. You know
what Lopez says about number twos, They were the best
looking ones. They want to be number ones and they're
no threes.

Speaker 1 (00:59):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (00:59):
Absolutely, I got a sense that you were to number
two in his world. You know, I thought you were
better than you actually were.

Speaker 4 (01:07):
You know what, just raining compliments as soon as we
get in the studio is always fun for me.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
Well, you know that T shirt team really got to me. Yeah.
I know. You get what you get and you'll enjoy it. Yeah,
there you go. What's that little phrase? Eat what you eat? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (01:20):
Yeah, good to see you, man, God seeing one of
my favorite guys in the studio today.

Speaker 4 (01:25):
No, no, everyone time. Yeah, can you really appreciate that
you're a smart dude? I don't say, don't take that
out loud.

Speaker 3 (01:31):
You're a smart dude. I'm not sure if people like you,
but you're a smart dude. Come up with some good stuff,
thanks man. So yeah, how come it took me seventy
years let me meet you?

Speaker 2 (01:41):
Well you're not seventy Well, I feel like you're sixty
nine and a half.

Speaker 3 (01:45):
Okay, thank you very much. And you don't look at
day very good for sixty nine and a half. Actually, hey,
welcome everybody. You're iron the ball in case you.

Speaker 2 (01:54):
I think you're somewhere up Yeah, yeah, don't change the channel. Listen.
You're right where you're supposed to be in life.

Speaker 3 (02:00):
Everybody needs a call, I mean, give us some calls. Five, two, four, six,
seventy four, forty. We've had a few good shows the
last couple of days. Today I have eager, so we're
going to talk a little Mexican baseball.

Speaker 2 (02:10):
Just that's correct, with whom Frank Gum is, the president
of Mexican Baseball Fiesta.

Speaker 5 (02:14):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (02:15):
Yeah, and I saw a clip of him, yeah, not
too long ago. Kind of he the thirteen years, like
eleven years they've been here for this is going to
be their fourteen fteen years. Okay, so so thirteen past uh,
kind of setting the stage for what's ahead after the
Mexican BISBO Baseball Fest. All right, Yeah, it's the big
Mixing Baseball League.

Speaker 4 (02:34):
Yeah, You've got the Mexican Baseball Fiesta, then the Arizona
Fall League on October eleventh, which is a Saturday triple
hitter Mexican Baseball Fest.

Speaker 2 (02:41):
You have four I think four days in Tucson. October
fourth is going to be at one pm at Central
Arizona College.

Speaker 4 (02:48):
I got them to expand that out. They've got a
couple of games at Pima this year. They've got games
of no Gallas and Douglas, Nogallas and Nora and Mesa.

Speaker 2 (02:55):
They're they're rocking and rolling.

Speaker 4 (02:57):
And then you've got the Arizona Fall League and then
the start of the Tucson baseball team the Liga Arca
Mexicana PACIFICA.

Speaker 2 (03:06):
Oh for a, what guy? You did that? Well? Yeah,
it takes me a little. I've got to switch brains,
be proofn Yeah, October sixteenth, getting professional baseball back, permanent
professional baseball back in Tucson, Southern Arizona.

Speaker 3 (03:19):
It's exciting, yes, and as we get move forward, we'll
talk more baseball in the americanas when the playoffs start.

Speaker 2 (03:25):
But last night was a big game for the Diamondbacks. Yeah,
I apologize our cups.

Speaker 4 (03:30):
My covies couldn't pull it out, so it kind of
screwed the Diamondbacks over.

Speaker 2 (03:34):
So tell me the situation. Is it over for the Dinbacks.

Speaker 4 (03:38):
I think they're a game out still, No, but so
they need to win win out. I think, yeah, they've
got to win out.

Speaker 3 (03:43):
Yeah, your Cobies gave up in the final innings or
something like that.

Speaker 2 (03:47):
Yeah, we're up six to one. It's a it's typical fashion.
I'm not too excited about it.

Speaker 6 (03:51):
Not.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
Yeah, you and Jay are all your teams are starting
to fade.

Speaker 4 (03:53):
Yeah, but he's a Dodgers fan, so it doesn't matter
whether I'm sorry, but you're like the summer ten Yeah
in October, Yeah, I'm a fun day going away baby.
When it's time to get serious, I don't trust our offense.
And then oh.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
You're a kill. Then that's what they've done to you
all your life. We'll get them next year. Say hey, yeah, yeah,
we should get a teacher like that. Yeah, I think
I have one in my closet. Be clever. Sohow okay? Cool?
So that's the extent of our baseball coverage.

Speaker 4 (04:21):
Yeah, and then you get a big, big weekend for
you a football right going to Ames playing.

Speaker 3 (04:25):
I state, this is a tested game. Where do you
stand game? Yeah, we'll see where you're at, game, all
those things.

Speaker 2 (04:33):
I think it's gonna be. I mean, I think it's
gonna be a really good football game. I do too.
I do too.

Speaker 3 (04:37):
The spread of six and a half, I don't think
i'd take it if it was seven half, I would,
But I do think that they're gonna be. They're gonna
be competitive with I wisht You think it's gonna be
a low scoring game. Under twenty wins the first one
in twenty wins it first one in twenty wins it
probably one.

Speaker 4 (04:53):
It's gonna be like a twenty one, seventeen four, fourteen,
twenty four. But you know there was one of kind
of driving and you have a chance. Yeah, yeah, Their
their defense is going to hold, I think. And that's
whether their offense gets to move the ball and and
here we go. You know when you played ball, I
say this all the time is kind of a gambler's word.
If if this happens, if this happens, if this happens, well,

(05:17):
that's a lot of ifs not happen, right, So when
you went to the mountain, he says, well, I gotta this,
gotta go, this gotta go.

Speaker 2 (05:23):
Just do it, Just do it. No ifs, just do it. Well,
I mean, the good thing is, I think their run
game is real. I think there. I think it's the
number two thing and the things that you really.

Speaker 4 (05:35):
Like about the defense, right, I think they've got a
solid special teams. Seek I said solid. I guess you're
going you're missing field goals. So that's balls and hiving punts.
Plus it's a lot of c plus. I was going
to say, the biggest question is their air attack.

Speaker 3 (05:51):
Right now, right, yeah, and yeah, okay, yeah, and I'm
sure it can be there.

Speaker 4 (05:58):
Yeah, as long as you can open up the run
game that expands the offensive play making a little bit.
I think you're in I think they're going to be
in good shape. Yeah, how much. I'll ask you this question,
being in Aims and we know Aims is a real
college town, like diehard college town. What's uh, what's the
point advantage for Iowa State there?

Speaker 2 (06:16):
Like? Do you do automatically give them? Probably six points
a game? But you know what, I'm not sure. I
don't know everybody has that theory.

Speaker 3 (06:22):
And I you know, I don't believe in momentum, and
do I believe in point stuff?

Speaker 2 (06:27):
Yes? Uh.

Speaker 3 (06:29):
That said, I don't think Arizona has very many points stuff.
When there's not a big crowd in there, what's the
point of not having not having a crowd if you're
not gonna get an advantage?

Speaker 2 (06:37):
Yeah, so I say six ish? What the line is?
I mean when you were on the road, did it
mean anything? No, I left pitching on the road.

Speaker 4 (06:45):
That's my that's my point. So what was the fact
What was the benefit to me? Yeah, I mean there's
some comfort for guys. I think handling a loud atmosphere.
I mean, that's what you want to play in front of. Yeah,
I would get up for that game, of course.

Speaker 2 (06:59):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (06:59):
I mean it's really it's really your first I want
to take away from the UFA fans at home, that's
not fair to them, but like real first for some
of these guys football experience, meaning that you're going to
a place that's just crazy.

Speaker 2 (07:14):
Right for at least the younger class.

Speaker 4 (07:16):
That's why I think I think you is going to
get there, especially with this team and what Brennan's doing
right now. It's going to take time, but I mean
this is probably the first time they step into atmosphere
where they go, oh wow, like this is a this
is a real deal.

Speaker 3 (07:27):
It's supposed to be sold out about sixty one thousand.
They say, So if you don't get up for this,
why the hell you're here?

Speaker 2 (07:33):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (07:34):
I would state between basketball and football has to be
one of the top attended programs, right from men's and
men's basketball and football.

Speaker 2 (07:43):
Yeah, probably because they sell out men's basketball, they sell
out men's football. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (07:46):
I know you don't have your computer. Maybe I do
here because I'm doing the board games. How big is
aims population wise, it's probably like you said at college
towns right now.

Speaker 4 (07:55):
Yeah, I mean I lived in Iowa, but we never
went to Ames. I lived in Water, which is northern Iowa.

Speaker 2 (08:02):
How is that? It's great? It's great. Oh you're kidding me.
Sixty eight thousand, Yeah, sixty.

Speaker 3 (08:08):
Eight that's the whole city is going to be at
the game.

Speaker 4 (08:12):
That's what happens. Yeah, no, and I get that. I
get that because that is wild to think about, though.
That's that's twentny and it doesn't shock me. I thought
it'd may one hundred and fifty or something. I would
have said with sixty one thousand, I would have said
in a one to fifty range.

Speaker 2 (08:25):
Yeah, So it's sixty eight thousand, twenty twenty four.

Speaker 4 (08:28):
So that's let's put it in perspective for our listeners
and for ourselves.

Speaker 2 (08:32):
That's roughly Casta Grande. So the city of Ground is
a little bit bigger.

Speaker 3 (08:36):
Is the eighth largest city in Iowa with the population
sixty eight to five.

Speaker 2 (08:40):
Yeah, that's twenty twenty four.

Speaker 4 (08:42):
So sixty one thousand they're selling out and sixty eight
thousand for population. Now, how big is a school because
obviously that plays a huge.

Speaker 3 (08:49):
Right, I haven't googled that, but the city of Names
is the eighth largest city. What the hell are the
other six? Because we know that Des Moines is pretty good?
Des Moines, go ahead, I feel awful.

Speaker 2 (09:03):
I guess that would be. That's like going to New
mex school because you're familiar.

Speaker 3 (09:07):
Uh, Cedar falls, there's Albuquerque, right, Albuquerque lost crises and Thenbuerque.
But see, this is the thing, and I know I'm
wrong for saying this. I always equate Albuquerque and Santa
fe kind of together, and they're not.

Speaker 2 (09:19):
They're too separate.

Speaker 1 (09:20):
Are No.

Speaker 4 (09:20):
That's like saying that you spending Phoenix to me is
what I equated tunes.

Speaker 2 (09:24):
It's not the same, not the same. And then you
get shot for that. Actually, well I hope not. Do
you have a gut?

Speaker 7 (09:29):
No?

Speaker 3 (09:29):
But people, you know, you know, you can't be mixing
metaphors and yeah, can't be.

Speaker 2 (09:33):
Yeah, I don't want to. I don't want to get shot.
I'm not from Albuquerque. There's a distinction. Now you're from
Santa Fan. Yeah, you're the upper class. You're allowed to
you know, I had to look down on the people
I just pay. That's because you're better than me.

Speaker 3 (09:46):
But the guy that calls uh the tea money, he's
from a rival school. I didn't know this until he
called it, and he says, oh now I get it.

Speaker 2 (09:53):
Well, yeah, now you get it. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (09:55):
I mean you're right though. When I think about New Mexico,
I mean, but that's not a large No, there's nothing after.

Speaker 3 (10:01):
There's nothing after Albuquerque, Los Cruises, and Santa Fe pretty much.

Speaker 2 (10:06):
No, Taos is just a smallish town.

Speaker 4 (10:08):
Do you think do you think most people feel that
same way about Arizona, where it's just Phoenix, And then
some people think about Tucson, which is kind of crazy. Well,
well you wouldn't know, I'm saying from a city standpoint though,
I mean maybe flag staff.

Speaker 2 (10:24):
I'm sure that people aren't talking about.

Speaker 6 (10:26):
No.

Speaker 2 (10:27):
No, it's like what Tucson. When Phoenix gets to Tucson,
Tucson does the flag staff? You know, Oh yeah, we're
better than you. Yeah, there's nothing to do with flag stuff.

Speaker 3 (10:37):
But you know this Phoenix is is Phoenix, but thing
else is is right there an important Conscottsto doesn't want
to be called Phoenix and Mason they don't want any
right yeah, yeah, yeah, but Tucson, Tucson, Yeah, you had

(10:58):
that with.

Speaker 4 (10:58):
Morana or Valley and veiled not to the extent that
it's known very true worldwide. Right, And you know because
if you know those people from those places, the Veranda,
but no, very well, they tell you that we're not.
I just had a I just had a meeting with
ord Valley today.

Speaker 3 (11:12):
Yeah, yeah, Okay, So we'll get technical, because you and
I always get technical, and the city functions and things
to do and not to do. So we'll have Gamus
here in the first hour, correct, and then we have
comments Matt Monano here on the other side of the
four o'clock hour talking about things going on in the
Packed twelve slash whatever conference that is nowadays.

Speaker 4 (11:34):
Uh, and then the Big twelve with Arizona is a
packed I mean it's an official Pack twelve still, right,
I mean they're not. I mean, it's not the Mountain
West Slash Pack twelve or the West Coast Slash.

Speaker 2 (11:45):
I don't care much about her anymore.

Speaker 4 (11:46):
So is next year the first fully official conference Pack
twelve conference with all the teams.

Speaker 2 (11:53):
So right now you have Oregon, Saint Washington, States.

Speaker 3 (11:55):
But Mountain West, Queen Queens. Yeah, yeah, Gonzaga is in it.
Yeahsta only. Yeah, yeah, so we'll see. This is a
huge weekend in football, you know that schedule. Big weekend,
big weekend, big weekend. Good, good time to sit in
front of the couch and say, you know, give me
a peer, give me my wings.

Speaker 2 (12:12):
Are you telling somebody to do that? Are you doing yourself?

Speaker 1 (12:14):
No?

Speaker 3 (12:15):
I talked, come on outside of the show, outside of
this show. I talked to myself.

Speaker 2 (12:20):
Baby.

Speaker 4 (12:21):
Yeah, big weekend. I mean last weekend was pretty big
weekend too, but uh, you can't beat it right now.
You've got baseball football NFL. Yeah, there's no better. And
you've got the Ryder Cup as well, So that's funny.
You're right because people are talking a lot about that too.

Speaker 6 (12:34):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (12:34):
No better place to be this weekend then on a
couch watching sports.

Speaker 3 (12:37):
Right do you think, cause you mentioned this, do you
think the We've only got about a minute. But this
time of year is some of the best time of
the year, because you know, to me, Final four March
is fantastic. Yeah, football season is what it is. You
have weekends like this, but not all the time. You
have weekends like this, especially on this weekend, Letter Cup,

(12:59):
big football. Well you have a team to watch Arizona.

Speaker 2 (13:03):
I mean, I think February, March, September, October the four
best months. February and March, February, February, why February, March.

Speaker 4 (13:09):
Say you've got Super Bowl, you've got college basketball all
rock and roll, and you've got spring training back in
the mix.

Speaker 2 (13:15):
Okay, okay, and then you've got September March, which or
September October where you're getting into that World Series, but
you still have high level NFL, high level college and
then you've got the start of college basketball season knocked O.

Speaker 3 (13:26):
Wait wait, let me say, I just got a text.
Are we going to talk about baseball? You just overpassed
the summer?

Speaker 8 (13:32):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (13:33):
Yeah, so I did baseball couldn't be that important? Well
it is. I mean, I just don't understand.

Speaker 4 (13:38):
You have a lot to talk about now, But when
we didn't have a lot to talk about the summer,
we were still kind of poop pooing baseball, Which that
doesn't make any sense.

Speaker 3 (13:44):
He s one gives a crop in min that's what
you say. We should talk about what's going on.

Speaker 4 (13:49):

Breaking down all the xys and ohs. This is I
on the Ball with Steve Rivera on Box Sports foorteen fifty.

Speaker 3 (18:32):
Hey, welcome back to h I I'm out here on
Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve Rivera, You're Blake Eager
and now on the phone, we have the President of
the Mexican Baseball Guestta Frank Gammis.

Speaker 2 (18:41):
Frank, how are you doing? Doing good?

Speaker 14 (18:44):
Steve?

Speaker 6 (18:45):
Thanks for having me super excited, getting ready and launching
it here. We started in Ogallas last weekend and heading
to Phoenix this weekend.

Speaker 15 (18:58):
The Fiesta starting.

Speaker 6 (18:59):
It's happening.

Speaker 3 (19:00):
Can you gauge how well you're gonna do by Let's say,
how are you gonna do in Tucson? If you do
really well in Nogallas or Phoenix, does that kind of
give you a precursor of what's going to come up?

Speaker 2 (19:12):
It does?

Speaker 6 (19:12):
I mean, that's that's entirely the reason why we do. Uh,
you know, start in all these different places as the
teams arrived and and get here to the states, uh
to to even the it all started in Tucson for us,
So you know, Tucson is where we kind of finished
the party. Uh. We we then went to Phoenix after

(19:34):
the first for three four years. Uh and it's gotten
as big as as Tucson. But we're still always end here.
And here's you know, this is the home of the
Mexican Baseball Fiesta. We're making strikes in Maryville, but this.

Speaker 15 (19:49):
Is you know, where where it all started.

Speaker 6 (19:51):
And and and where we're where we're at home. So yeah, absolutely,
you know, every time we're anywhere that people go and
they're asking for different layers that they heard about the fiesta,
Come to Tucson, you know, come come to Phoenix. Sometimes
it is as well, but uh, the song has been
you know, come to tu So that's what we do
the whole party. That's where you get the three layers.

(20:13):
So yeah, people people go in always expecting that and
then they're like, hey, you know that there was this
or that, and then yeah, we we we paved the way.
So so they come back and and you know, now
we have the fiesta here in the in the quick
horizon with with the different groups and the different games.
Seven teams total of the league out of the ten

(20:35):
will join us. And then if people you.

Speaker 15 (20:38):
Know don't get enough, there's there's now a season.

Speaker 6 (20:40):
So now everybody that you know gets to watch, you
get gets another chance and and gets to watch their
favorite teams from the league all parade back for three months.

Speaker 4 (20:52):
Franky talk about a little bit. Uh First and foremost,
if people want to buy tickets, where can they go?

Speaker 2 (20:57):
That's the first thing.

Speaker 4 (20:58):
The second thing is tell us tell the listeners today
kind of what we were just talking about in your day,
your average day as the teams get into town and
all the things that you have to do, because I
don't think people realize the amount of work that you
have to go through to get this thing off the
ground and running and everything you have to do.

Speaker 6 (21:16):
Absolutely, yes, there's the tickets. You can get them their
own line for sale on Mexican Baseball Fiesta dot com.
You can go and select your city toson and it
will send you to our ticket return partner and you
can buy the tickets there online. It's already available and
there has general emission for twenty dollars, block seats for

(21:37):
twenty five and we have a VIAP that gives you
access to the second four deck, you know, with a
little bit more of a private service, and then you
get to watch the concert front row as well. But yeah, no, it's.

Speaker 2 (21:52):
It's a whole production.

Speaker 6 (21:53):
I'd like to make the analogies of an orchestra. There's
a lot of layers to it.

Speaker 15 (21:58):
There's a lot of moving parts, like I said, and teams.

Speaker 6 (22:01):
That travel uh into the United States to do their
pre season during Mexican Baseball Fiesta. So each team the
meals the transportation, the lodging in the different cities, you know,
across southern Arizona as a whole.

Speaker 15 (22:17):
Uh, it's it's it's a lot.

Speaker 6 (22:19):
It's it's it's a lot fun orchestra that we've been
doing for a long time now. This is a fourteen
year so you know, as much as as we continue
to tune.

Speaker 15 (22:29):
Every single instrument and understanding in.

Speaker 6 (22:31):
This orchestra thing. I think, Uh, it's it's it's it's great,
and it's just it's tremendous, a lot of a lot
of work. Uh, We're thankful and we're lucky the fact
that we're working with professionals. This is ten teams you
know that make up the league, seven of which have
come at this point. Every single team of the league

(22:51):
has been a guest of Mexican Baseball Fiesta in Arizona.
But yeah, everyone, you know, the core of it is
baseball and that's what everyone knows what to do. And
it's great to just you know, enable them by getting
those things, you know, the transportation, the lodging, you know,
the communication among different governments to make it happen. Uh,

(23:14):
and then they just do their job, you know.

Speaker 15 (23:16):
Then it becomes a normal day for them.

Speaker 6 (23:19):
On the field and you know, being the protagonist of
the of the great show we put on with the
Mexican Baseball Fiesta. So it's it is a tremendous amount
of work. But again it is also a set of
relief to work with professionals because at the end of
the day. That's that's what each of them are, and
we're just enabled them to do their preseason and take
advantage of the great facilities we have across all of

(23:42):
southwest Arizona.

Speaker 2 (23:43):
Yeah, Frank, will you, Uh, let's talk about what can
a first time attendee expect.

Speaker 4 (23:52):
Somebody that's going to the games for the first time,
what can they expect and what can they do to
be more a part of the atmosphere that goes on.

Speaker 2 (24:00):
It's funny you said that question before.

Speaker 3 (24:01):
You say, I was gonna go there with you because
I was a first timer, but I want to hear
his and I'll respond to that.

Speaker 10 (24:08):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (24:08):
No, it's I think you know again, at its core,
it's baseball, but it's it's also in the name, it's
a fiesta. Uh so it's it's a little uh. At
its core, Agan, it's it's seven eating games because there's
double headers, so you'll get to watch a lot of baseball,
four different teams each day. But yeah, it's definitely the music.

(24:28):
It's it's a much more lively atmosphere. Everyone is somehow
completely invested in the game while dancing on the concourse. Uh,
you know, they'll react to the hits and the the
the atmosphere. Atmosphere you know, sounds cliche, but it is
truly electric just because everyone isn't that same you know
current that you know, people get excited, the whole crowd

(24:51):
gets excited. There's a dance, there's music, live music playing. Uh.
There's a lot of different vendors, so you can you know,
literally take the walk around the park and you'll get
to you know, win prices and the you know, talk to.

Speaker 15 (25:06):
The local businesses that are there to you.

Speaker 6 (25:08):
Know again do giveaways and interact with the with the
different patriots. It's a whole experience like people can have.
You know, it is six to sometimes seven hours of
two double headers. There's a break in between to get
the field ready and well that's happening. There's a concert.
So then the concert ends and now we go back

(25:28):
into the solemn you know, baseball ceremonies. First pitch and
then the game starts and you'll keep hearing music until
the picture sets before the pitch. And that's pretty much
the past of the music. From doing this for so long,
going to any baseball that is not you know obviously uh,
from the Liga or even the summer league in Mexico. Uh,

(25:51):
it feels like you can hear everyone's conversation in the stadium,
you know, Like I'm so used to the music being
part of the game in the atmosphere that I find
myself sometimes like puzzled with the fact that you can
hear everything and everyone else.

Speaker 15 (26:06):
Yeah, well, watching the game, even if you just try
to have.

Speaker 6 (26:09):
A conversation of your own, so that that I find like,
that's a really cool different interaction from you know, being
in American baseball for for so long and just being
a fan in American baseball that you go to to
the Mexican Baseball Fiesta and you can you can have
private conversations while watching the game.

Speaker 3 (26:28):
Let me tell you, Uh, it must have been ten
years ago or so. You've been here thirteen years now,
going on fourteen. I helped you guys out with the
with the score, with the score, you know, with the stadium,
and my first time ever, I'm thinking, damn, this is
pretty cool. And because exactly the things you said, you know,
the band, and I'm thinking, how is this? How do
they allow to do this one? And it's the cool thing.

(26:50):
And what you didn't even talk about is it's a
people watching.

Speaker 15 (26:54):
Place you go and you kind of see absolutely.

Speaker 2 (26:57):
You see people attractive.

Speaker 6 (27:00):
All these it's uh, we got you know, we we
switched the traditional ballpark food for for Mexican food or
you know, different Hispanic cuisines. So you'll find yourself, you know,
your traditional ballpark hot dog and the concessions, but you're
also going to find SNAr hot dog or some biria
and car masala, you know, so you have those options,
or you can just go traditional and have you know,

(27:21):
a cheeseburger that's that's available too, but also you know
all these different uh you know cuisines that we have
that are you know, local businesses, the people that are
here in Tucson that you know, bring bringing that flavor
to to keep it as authentic as possible. That's always
been division from Mike Vader and my father was to
basically bring that experience from the Winter Pacific League and

(27:45):
make it as authentic as possible, uh here in the States.
And you know, being the bridge between.

Speaker 15 (27:50):
Both has been our our mission.

Speaker 6 (27:52):
And I think I think we're we're almost there.

Speaker 3 (27:55):
Well, let me this question, because I was so impressed
with what was going on. It's just a party, you
happen to be playing baseball or watching baseball in this party.

Speaker 2 (28:04):
But Blake, did you pitch in Japan? Do they do
this in Japan? Are they kind of like this too
or anywhere else?

Speaker 3 (28:11):
One and two, I went to the World Baseball Classic
I guess finals in Miami seventeen years ago, and I
that was the first time.

Speaker 2 (28:18):
I think, damn, this is cool.

Speaker 3 (28:20):
Because the fans are crazy with their flags and they're
bounding in their drums and YadA YadA. I say this
two was cool, but this is just more wild. You
know it's wild watching baseball, right? Do they do this
in other places?

Speaker 2 (28:31):
They do? Yeah, Asian? The Asian market's similar, but not
to the degree what they do for Mexican baseball? Do
you do you guys think that this.

Speaker 3 (28:38):
Is a weird question since they're taking robotics to the
next level, imp Could they do this in American baseball
where it's more of a fiesta?

Speaker 2 (28:48):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (28:48):
I think.

Speaker 4 (28:48):
I mean Frank and I have talked about this, and
not to cut Frank out, but by any means, but
I think they're to energize the audience and what it
looks like and what it is. I think they can
incorporate some of that maybe not to the degree that
they currently do it, but I think they should.

Speaker 2 (29:03):
What do you think, Frank, I think.

Speaker 6 (29:05):
It's important, you know, to to keep in mind that
the Mexican Basil Fiesta, we get to to get a
fiesta as we do because it's the preseason that gives
you a certain freedom. You know, it's like the game
happening and finalizing and everyone getting their reps can can
wait sometimes longer, you know than you would if there's

(29:26):
TV broadcast, if there's you know, other layers that gives
us that freedom to to to throw a party really
around around baseball.

Speaker 15 (29:36):
But if it's not a preseason.

Speaker 6 (29:38):
Setting, you know, there's there's having music, you know, like
you see in the World Baseball Classic, like you see
in the Caribbean Series, but there's you know, definitely a
baseball is the main and sole protagonist when it's when
it counts, it's called that, you know, it counts of
course for everyone to get the reps. You get to

(29:59):
see people try their hardest because they're trying to win
the job.

Speaker 15 (30:03):
So it's you know, it comes, it comes with its boat.

Speaker 6 (30:06):
But again to get to the level of yesa and
and what we do is is definitely a well side
effect of preseason.

Speaker 2 (30:13):
And this is to both of you.

Speaker 3 (30:14):
And we still have some time because you see, you
see baseball changing, right, it's they're trying to speed it up.
They're doing some things to make that happen. But you
also have the banana guys, uh, where it's more entertainment
and baseball is is kind of like secondary and and
that's kind of part of the fun. I mean, they're
selling out everything because it's become a fun game.

Speaker 15 (30:33):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (30:34):
And if you if they the Americans, you know, Cincinnati,
Diamacks whatever in corpus uh incorporated some of this stuff,
it could be even more fun with more people in attendance.

Speaker 2 (30:44):
I could be wrong saying that, Blake, but but I
think you're absolutely right. Yeah right, Rank.

Speaker 15 (30:53):
You know, I think it's a it's it's it's a
it's a follow suit game.

Speaker 6 (30:58):
And and at the end of the day, uh, the
Winter League, the league article UH meets with MB for
winter meetings because you really try to you know, move
the game along and together. I don't you know, again,
in the preseason space, like I still baseball is the
main thing I'm trying to to finalize. But again, if

(31:20):
that's where the meter moves and the game moves. I
respect what the bananas do a lot, like it's I
watched it. It's a great show, absolutely.

Speaker 15 (31:28):
I just you know, if that's where the ball moves.

Speaker 6 (31:31):
I know that the Winter League in due time will
follow suit.

Speaker 2 (31:33):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (31:34):
But but yeah, you know, at the end of the
day over here, if they if they're not getting the
the reps and the throws and the pitches, you know,
that's that's what I'm getting to shoot out, not about
anything else.

Speaker 3 (31:45):
Yes, I get iget. So you have your restrictions and
your limitations as well.

Speaker 6 (31:52):
Yeah, you know, it's you know that they set out
to do something new, and they're doing something new for sure.
And I think you know, there's there's some there's somethin
and a lot of similarities in the Fiesta because of
the freedom we have, uh with pre season. But again
like uh, sometimes you know, it's a seventy inning game
and they'll ask me to play a whole other inning
because they want to see someone else.

Speaker 2 (32:14):
So let me ask you. I'm sure you're gonna have
you a back in the in the lineup, right, they're
back to play.

Speaker 6 (32:21):
Yes, A tradition keeps keeps going.

Speaker 2 (32:24):
And Chip and Chip. I think I've heard that he
loves this. Yeah, I talked to him last week. Actually,
Frank was in the room. This is something he marks
on the calendar all year because the players love playing
in this atmosphere.

Speaker 6 (32:37):
Yeah. I think what what I always resonates with me
that the Chip and and and players have said about
the Fiesta is that it just you know, it feels
like championship because it gets so rowdy. Yeah, because they
gets so loud at the music. You know, the level,
the atmosphere, the you know, the the the people there,
you know, like you get you get a full house

(32:57):
a Chino time. So it's just you know, I love that,
you know, I love I'm you know, I came here,
went to Siena, I got high school, graduate from the
u of A. To think that I have anything to
do helping the u of A for me is you know,
a personal achievement beyond the business sense of banking baseball

(33:17):
and meeting with baseball in different areas, to to say, hey,
you know, my event in any shapeway or form, it's
actually helping.

Speaker 14 (33:25):
The u A.

Speaker 6 (33:25):
This is you know, the program to win. This is awesome. Okay,
So them being part.

Speaker 15 (33:31):
It's always always something I take great pride with.

Speaker 3 (33:34):

we got to go give us the dates again and
maybe the prices for tickets here. Let me say, I'm
not a paid endorser, but people, if they have not
gone there to watch these games, go there because it's
a lot of.

Speaker 2 (33:49):
Fun answorth every penny.

Speaker 3 (33:50):
You get a lot of things, music, food, baseball, atmosphere whatever.
I mean, I'm missing stuff tough too, but you know,
tell us the dates and the price.

Speaker 12 (34:00):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (34:01):
Absolutely, the dates here.

Speaker 15 (34:29):
Baseball, is what we like to remind people.

Speaker 6 (34:32):
But at the end of the day, again, if you know,
in that same conversation as the banana ball. If that has,
in some shapewe or form piqued your interest, come check
out the Fiesta in your backyard, and I think you'll
be very pleased to see the different shades of baseball
that exists.

Speaker 2 (34:47):
I agree. I agree, Frank. Thanks for coming on the show.
We'll see you soon. Thanks for everything to you. Frank
really appreciate it.

Blake Eager's on the Arizona Sports Tourism and Film Authority.
Have you been busy, Yeah, trying to be all that
stuff you're trying to attract. I mean, I think the
attraction's there. We sold it. Now we just got to
execute and go to the games.

Speaker 3 (39:28):
Well, no, yeah, that's right, And there's a lot of
stuff going on right baseball specifically.

Speaker 2 (39:34):
What's up? Have you heard anything from last week's was
it already last week or longer than that? Our press
conference with the city, Yeah, the press county. Yeah, feedback
was unbelievable. So what part of what part of that?

Speaker 4 (39:44):
I mean, all the all the feedback I got from
the people that were there or the people that covered
the story or then ran the story.

Speaker 2 (39:50):
Yeah, they've loved the way it was set up. I junket.
When do you think about it? I thought it was fantastic.

Speaker 3 (39:56):
I got my own stuff, Michael f got his own stuff,
and we all had different stories.

Speaker 2 (40:01):
It wasn't all one story and just depends how we
wrote it. Yeah, but you had a chance staff just
different questions. That's my questions.

Speaker 3 (40:08):
That's my point. It was we all had our own
ideas in our head what we wanted to write. Yeah,
and none of us came up with the same stories.
I'm glad you said that.

Speaker 1 (40:15):
You know.

Speaker 4 (40:15):
When I came up with the idea, I wasn't sure
how it would go off. It was just kind of
one of those things that you think about when I'd
like to be different and try to think outside the
boxom how I realize that. But I'm really glad that
you guys were able to get that one on one
time with everybody, and I think everybody enjoyed that too,
and you get you get a better relationship moving forward.

Speaker 3 (40:33):
Here's where it all starts from your your idea that
turned into a pretty good idea, and you had the
principles involved. Not concerned about time because we had we
had either five minutes or three minutes or whatever minutes
we wanted with them, and they were accommodating. Yeah, some
places we go to or cover it's like you got

(40:55):
ten minutes go.

Speaker 2 (40:56):
Yeah, and you got to go as fast as you can.
And then afterwards you go, I should have asked, I
should have said this, I should we should have talked
about it. Sure, and then guess what, Blake here, you
have the same information that I have.

Speaker 4 (41:06):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, So how am I supposed to write
a different story where you're gonna write a big Thanks
has to go out to Aaron Hodge. Who's the uh
he's working at Keno Sports Complex night? Did he set
that whole thing up? We worked in conjunction with one another.
I thought he you know, he knocked it out of
the park. Okay, we gonna call who's this?

Speaker 9 (41:23):
See what vic? I?

Speaker 2 (41:25):
What about Chick? I hadn't heard from you. I was
gonna check Lake, check some places.

Speaker 9 (41:30):
Wait till Blake, Wait until Blake comes on, because you've
been getting some.

Speaker 2 (41:34):
Flack about baseball.

Speaker 9 (41:35):
Oh yeah, see, I don't get it, Blake. I mean,
this stuff is in my DNA. I at three forty
five and I've been arguing my daughter about the Dodgers
and what they're going to do with their bullpen situation
for the last three hours.

Speaker 4 (41:51):
Hey, we're doing the same thing. You gotta you gotta
do it with your bullpen? Are my Cubbies have to
figure out their offense and what the hell they're doing.
We're in the same boat, man.

Speaker 9 (41:59):
My daughters actually went to school with with UH with
the names Ram with the reliever. God darn it for
or no for the Dodgers. But anyway, my question is, Steve,

(42:20):
you've been getting a lot of flacks. Like I said,
I've been going back and forth with my own kid
and about five people on Texas and and did these
kids just not grew up today with baseball? Because that's
what I grew up with walking through Randolph Park going
to the Toros. My kids, like I said, they grew

(42:41):
up running around the park playing with football since they
were babies. And I mean it, just like I said,
my kids graduated. Steve in twenty sixteen, hung up the cleat,
and I still am on the phone looking at UH
hitting videos and fieldeing videos and all that, and I

(43:01):
don't get it.

Speaker 4 (43:02):
It just tells me up, Well, Vic, you think about it, though,
I mean, we we haven't had we haven't had Triple
A baseball since twenty thirteen, right, you haven't had spring
training things to twenty eleven, So a lot of our
youth has they've never been exposed to professional baseball here,
so it's not in their DNA, you know, maybe playing
the game. But that's a small few, so yeah, you're right.

(43:24):
I mean they just haven't been exposed. They haven't been
around that market. That's what we're trying to change.

Speaker 2 (43:27):
And what did you grow up?

Speaker 9 (43:28):
But even with that, lady grow up going to the
park and like I said, going to the snack bar
and running around your little league or whatever. And and
my kids got got exposed to it and soull in
love with the game, not from playing tea ball or anything.
They got from playing with the ball against the boys

(43:49):
and all that kind of stuff. That's where their love
grew from it.

Speaker 4 (43:53):
I mean, that's a good question. I don't know how
to answer that. I mean, we had with the ball
field in my backyard, the whole neighborhood came over. The
last question is what is your question?

Speaker 9 (44:01):
Well, it is because why are these people complaining about
baseball and talking about it? Well, I mean I can't
get enough of it?

Speaker 3 (44:09):
No, no, no, no, no, they're not They're on your side.
They're on the people that complain. And let me tell you,
it's not a this is a two persons sample size.
I got my friends, a couple of guys. How come
we don't talk about baseball? It's simple from my end,
this is shows bought to be brought to you by
Steve Iron the ball. I have no interest in it
because I don't know enough about it. You know, why

(44:31):
would I talk about something that I don't know much about.

Speaker 2 (44:34):
I have two kids.

Speaker 3 (44:35):
I couldn't tell you about pregnancy. Why would I talk
about baseball but I'm not interested? Does that make sense?
Is my analogy work?

Speaker 2 (44:43):
Don't you know what I'm saying? I don't you know?

Speaker 3 (44:47):
And another guy who texts me says, well, you do
your homework. I have four different jobs. I don't have
I don't have time to do see, you know what
the hell? Honestly, I'm not trying to make excuses, that's
my answer.

Speaker 9 (45:01):
I mean, I guess, like I said, it's just it's
just uh in like I said in my life Steve
Blaye and we just went to a funeral for Oscar America.

Speaker 2 (45:14):
Yeah, coach O and I. He was a good friend
of mine and I know a lot of mine.

Speaker 9 (45:21):
I grew up. We went, we played little league. He
was on our rancho on tile all through high school,
and and it was so funny. Went to the reception
there at Fema College and and uh, every curve broke
a little harder, and every ball got hit a little farther,
and and I can tell you the stories. Just I
was like, you're such a liar or whatever. But but

(45:43):
but like I said, every home run went went three
hundred and fifty feet instead of two hundred, you know.

Speaker 3 (45:48):
Yeah that's what Yeah, sure, of course, yeah, you know.
And I have those stories, you know, because I played
the ball, played the game a long time ago, followed
the Reds forever until I didn't me being a Cowboys son,
I followed him ntil you know, I lived there. I saw,
I saw too much, you know, and he said, no,
this is not what I want to see.

Speaker 9 (46:09):
Oh and the relievers Blake is Tanner Scott. My kids
went to school with them.

Speaker 4 (46:13):
Yeah, yeah, I should have known that. I should thrown
it out there. He played for Ben l for a while.

Speaker 2 (46:16):
Yeah.

Speaker 9 (46:16):
Yeah, they went to Howard Junior College with him. I
used to brag and say, oh when he signed with
the Dodgers, I was telling everybody my kids went to
school with Tanner. But now I shut my mouth.

Speaker 13 (46:27):
I don't say nothing, so Vic.

Speaker 3 (46:29):
You you got about two more days I guess tonight
until on tomorrow to go see those little stooliers.

Speaker 2 (46:34):
Are you gonna go see those stayers?

Speaker 9 (46:36):
No, No, I'm not gonna go. And and I have
every year, but uh but this year I'm kind of
saving money for the Arizona football and basketball games.

Speaker 2 (46:46):
Okay, Okay, And you.

Speaker 9 (46:48):
Know what, if they're putting a better product than Tanner
was getting out in the ninth, I probably would.

Speaker 2 (46:52):
But yeah, well last night last night was one of
those nights.

Speaker 9 (46:55):
After last night tobacco, I really don't want to go.

Speaker 2 (46:58):
Right, Okay, Vic, thank you for your call. Always appreciate you.

Speaker 9 (47:01):
Hey, you got it, and uh go cast we're gonna
do it this week.

Speaker 1 (47:05):
You know.

Speaker 2 (47:05):
Yeah, you've said it, You've been committed to that. I'm
gonna hold you to it.

Speaker 3 (47:08):
Yeah, if they called it, okay, you got it. Okay,
I guess my my analogy didn't fly. I mean, can
we just do a little bit deeper dive. Why don't
you have two boys?

Speaker 2 (47:22):
Yeah? Two boys? Why would you have to teach them
about pregnancy? No, I'm talking about me. Well, it's like
me talking about it, not teaching them, like it's a
completely different language to you. I don't know enough about it.
Come on, I'm not fooling anybody. I want to stay
on this subject because I want to make you more.
We go through it. You know what I'm saying that
Why don't you No, I don't have time for that stuff.

(47:43):
It'd be like me talking about math. It's exactly. Don't understand.
You know your wheelhouse? Yeah I know, I know.

Speaker 3 (47:48):
I know numbers go together. I just don't know how
they do it exactly. I wouldn't go for you for
those numbers. You're on the ro line the ball.

Speaker 20 (47:53):
Who says, I stayed at your other fan part of
your fan base that likes baseball.

Speaker 2 (47:59):
Okay, that's three though.

Speaker 15 (48:01):
Go ahead, it's Jim.

Speaker 3 (48:02):
Hold on, Jim, I got a call coming in, but
don't believe the the color will have to wait maybe
for a second, so make you quick, Jim.

Speaker 2 (48:10):
Go ahead.

Speaker 15 (48:12):
Oh okay.

Speaker 20 (48:12):
Well, I think this Mexican baseball thing is going to
be a coup for the city of Tucson. I played
in a baseball game like that once, and it was
a totally different experience. And I played a lot of baseball,
but I played one game and against Mexican away down

(48:33):
in the Gallas and it was a totally different experience.
It was great and everything that people don't like about
regular baseball they will enjoy about this. And you guys
have mentioned all that, the food, the music.

Speaker 2 (48:48):
The people. Jim might talk about all.

Speaker 4 (48:51):
It's a good marriage between the two, right, you get
you get high quality baseball, professional baseball on the field,
and you get a phenomenal atmosphere on the concourse and marry.

Speaker 2 (49:00):
But you can't ask for a better marriage, Steve.

Speaker 20 (49:03):
You know what, Blake, I made a sliding catch in
center field in the second inning, and from then on
I was the hero of the game. The kids were
coming through our dugout wanting to meet my autograph.

Speaker 2 (49:18):
Then Jim didn't have to for the next year. Right.

Speaker 20 (49:22):
It was just it was just a real good experience.
I think I think people will see that if they
go give it a shot.

Speaker 2 (49:28):
No, I totally agree with you, Jim. Thanks for sharing
the story. It's very accurate. Jim. Thank you.

Speaker 3 (49:32):
Hey, we've got a call coming in. Listen this season
can get it back where I was trying to call.
Give us a call back. I'm ready for you for
the next three minutes. If you'd like to call in
Jim's correct. I mean, like I said, I was there
and it was I said, holy crap, this is kind
of cool.

Speaker 4 (49:48):
Yeah, it's amazing. I mean it's a double header in
between double harders. You get a concert on the venue,
you got a DJ going, you had a concert after
the games. Uh, it's it's and you've got major League
baseball players on the field.

Speaker 2 (49:59):
That's why, you know. My dad and I were talking
about that last year. It's like, oh, you're looking down
the field, You've seen guys that spent time in the
big leagues are in the big leagues, and then you've
got a DJ during the game below, you're on the
air nine of the ball. Who's this?

Speaker 9 (50:13):
It's mister baseball, the guy that you don't want to
talk about.

Speaker 2 (50:16):
Well, you don't.

Speaker 3 (50:17):
Here's the funny part of the rick. I see you
away from this and just what you don't want to
You don't mention baseball. I mean you have me, you
have me in front of you, and you won't talk
about baseball.

Speaker 19 (50:29):
Steve, I'm too busy trying to keep you out of
my pocket.

Speaker 2 (50:34):
Pockets are wine and have a lot of money.

Speaker 19 (50:38):
Okay, I can't, I can't afford.

Speaker 2 (50:40):
You, Rick, Steve's got some shirts he wants to sell you,
So be careful of that next time you see him.

Speaker 19 (50:48):
Oh God bless him. But anyway, you know, and I've
said this, I don't know how many times, Steve, Baseball
is still America's game. And the boys they're useless.

Speaker 2 (51:03):
Wait wait, wait, what about your what about your browns?
They're useless packers.

Speaker 19 (51:10):
Yeah that's all right. Uh But in all seriousness, And
when I used to go to La with my grandmother,
my uncle, my bo you over there used to We're
playing in the Mexican Baseball League, and every park and
every place you go as a kids, everybody was playing baseball.
And I know now they're playing soccer and doing this

(51:31):
other stuff, but you've go to the stadium. Baseball is
still the biggest draws for except for maybe soccer worldwide.
So and I'm gonna buy some tickets and give them
away to some kids for this event coming up in October.

Speaker 4 (51:47):
Rick, if you want to do that, let me know
and I'll get you in touch. If you're gonna do that,
I'll get you in touch with the Pema County Superintendent's
office and we can put together. Uh we can put
together a little giveaway for some of the students in town,
especially that maybe that went to my past school.

Speaker 2 (52:02):
Flowing walls would be great, They would love that.

Speaker 19 (52:05):
I'll tell you what, Steve, pass my number, just give
me a check, Blake, and we'll go from there.

Speaker 2 (52:09):
Okay, Rick, sounds good.

Speaker 4 (52:10):
See Rick's not just generous with me. You're just taking advantage.
I thought you guys spent most of the time talking
about pregnancies.

Speaker 2 (52:20):
That was really to see you Reclay. We got to
go
