Oh, thank you, thank you, appreciate it, thank you for

Couldn't be any better for Jaden Dolaura. Right, you know
you've been here before. You you you won the game here.
Now you're coming back for hopefully for you a repeat performance.

Oh yes, I mean that's the plan. I hope we
execute that plan.

Speaker 2 (00:50):
So we'll see. Tell me, I listened to you a
little bit with Justin a couple of mornings ago. Were
you out for a little while and then they found
you and you came back? How was your career here?
How did it happen?

Speaker 4 (01:03):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (01:03):
So after left Arizona went to the UFL San Antonio
Middleweight San Antonio. Midway through the season, was there about
three four weeks. Ended up getting released with the starting
quarterback coming back. So I actually went back home for
about a year. And you know, I actually got a
call from the head coach here at Tucson probably two

(01:25):
weeks after I got released, and you know, I just
didn't have the love for it again. I just kind
of shut down, I would say.

Speaker 4 (01:34):
Went back home for about.

Speaker 2 (01:35):
A year, went back home.

Speaker 5 (01:36):
Hang out with my family, My brothers, started coaching my
brother's basketball games, took over the basketball team, and that
just brought my competitive edge back.

Speaker 4 (01:46):
And I knew that I wasn't done playing.

Speaker 5 (01:48):
So the opportunity presented itself when coach might gave me
a call again, I thought, why not Vegas. I have
a lot of family up in Vegas. A lot of
people in Hawaii moved to Vegas, and it was time
to kind of get out of Hawaii because the pockets
were running a little dry from the prices over thereselves.

Speaker 6 (02:05):
Right, What's what's it like to make this transition to
this style of football?

Speaker 2 (02:10):
I mean, is it basically.

Speaker 4 (02:12):
The I would say, it's the.

Speaker 5 (02:16):
It's similar, like I said, the field is smaller, you
got three less guys on defense, I would say it's
kind of easier to distinguish coverages because you only can
run so much with five guys and coverages, you know,
especially with all the rules that are set in play
that the.

Speaker 4 (02:32):
Defense has to do unless they get penalized.

Speaker 5 (02:34):
You know, so once understanding the speed of the game,
the rules of the game, and then all the concepts
and what it's trying to be attacked offensively, then you know,
it kind of slows it down for the quarterback and
makes it easier, especially when I got receivers, the O
line and running back that does what they do, so
just got to get them the ball.

Speaker 2 (02:54):
It seemed that the game would fit you perfectly. You're
kind of an ad lib guy in the nice legs,
A nice arm can do both. It depends on the situation.
Does it fit you? Well, no, I got it all.

Speaker 4 (03:09):
My arm is too strong. This field is too.

Speaker 2 (03:10):
Small, so okay, wow, I would have never thought that. Okay,
cool reason.

Speaker 6 (03:16):
Yeah, So do you look at this as maybe just
a quick, short time thing and and and getting back
onto that.

Speaker 5 (03:23):
Is that is the plan. That is the plan, especially
coming into this yere I knew the the pay really
wasn't what it sure easy to be able to sustain,
you know what I mean. So I just want to
use this opportunity to get myself back outdoor again.

Speaker 7 (03:41):
Was there a specific game when you were coaching your
brother's basketball team that like you noticed the fire come
back maybe comparatively to to other games.

Speaker 5 (03:53):
No, I'd probably say watching his game before we even
started coaching. That was my first time I got to
be a fan in.

Speaker 2 (03:59):
A long time.

Speaker 5 (04:00):
And right, you know, it just got me off of
my feet, and I'm kind of like, well, I need
to relax a little because he's only in middle school
and these are like twelve thirteen year old kids playing. Yeah,
my brother, My brother gets it from me whenever I
see him at home, so I'm tough on him.

Speaker 2 (04:15):
No, but you're right, you know, I talked to former
athletes here all the time and it says once they get
out of a game or something, that those juices they
have to find a way to you know, either go
golfing or yeah something something.

Speaker 4 (04:25):
Yeah, yes, yes for sure. And it kind of was
hard being away from sports.

Speaker 5 (04:31):
A little because that has all of that just caged up,
you know what, I mean, so it's good to release
it and like just find that I'd love to go.

Speaker 2 (04:38):
Back to play football again.

Speaker 6 (04:39):
Do you see yourself maybe as a coach, say, you know,
when this is all said and done.

Speaker 4 (04:43):
Oh for sure, for sure, actually working on trying to finish.

Speaker 5 (04:47):
Up the last semester of my degree.

Speaker 4 (04:50):
Because somebody wasn't doing what he was supposed to do
his freshman year in college.

Speaker 5 (04:56):
So the younger me might curse him out every.

Speaker 2 (05:01):
But you know, you live and learn.

Speaker 4 (05:02):
From those opportunities.

Speaker 5 (05:04):
And once I figured that out, finish that up, then
I would like to start coaching. If the opportunity of
me playing outside just doesn't come as soon as I
hope it will, you.

Speaker 2 (05:15):
Know, yeah, I'm sure that's after this little weekend and
maybe another week or whatever. You'll probably start searching for
another spot somewhere.

Speaker 4 (05:23):
Oh yes, yes, yes, for sure.

Speaker 2 (05:26):
Are you getting your degree from Arizona?

Speaker 5 (05:29):
That's the plan. I don't want to get it from
nowhere else.

Speaker 2 (05:32):
Oh good job.

I'm still trying to figure out if we'll qualify for
the Wildcap for Life program or anything. So I have
a couple of people trying to work on that for
me that I have a really good relationship here at Arizona.
So if not, then we'll just have to fund it
the online.

Speaker 2 (05:48):
Way were you? I think you were just what a
year or two too early? Now that the nil and
all this money, what do you think? What are your thoughts?

Speaker 4 (05:57):
Man?

Speaker 8 (05:58):
You're telling me some of my friends are getting paid.
I'm like, whoa, it's crazy. Oh sorry, I'll walk away
from the speaker. But yeah, no, for sure, because some
of these guys are getting paid in college is crazy,
right right, Well, your buddy, But.

I hope that I hope that those guys are getting
taught how to move all their finances and save and
protect themselves, you know what I mean financially, because I
feel like that was something I was learning on the
fly myself, you know what I mean.

Speaker 2 (06:29):
So, m okay, well, good luck this What what when
you came back here, I don't know, a month ago
or whatever it was, did you have people come in
and see you and say hello and do all that
good stuff? And now maybe some more this weekend.

Speaker 5 (06:43):
Yeah, I actually had a couple of the boys.

Speaker 4 (06:45):
Tuba came out, Wino came out.

Speaker 2 (06:49):
I think Lily came out, that.

Speaker 5 (06:54):
Gavin came out. I think there was two more guys
I can't remember off the top of my head, but
everybody was on their Fourth of July break and then
this weekend everybody's actually they got their mock scrimmage at
the same time as our game.

Speaker 4 (07:09):
So I told him, don't worry about this. You guys
got to get ready for you.

Speaker 2 (07:12):
See, did you go to the practice.

Speaker 4 (07:14):
I went to the practice.

Speaker 5 (07:15):
Yesterday, seeing the guys that hung out with them in
the locker room after a little bit to talk to them.
So it was good catching up with them.

Speaker 2 (07:22):
Right, It's good. Okay, Well, appreciate a bunch of Jayden

a stadium, but at DCC not too far from it.
He was. He was fun to watch. I have to
admit it was scary to watch going. You know, he
had he was good at improvising. That's what I thought.
It just would fit him perfectly, right, Yeah, and then

It's a jay I've got one more for you. I've
got coach Mike David from the Vegas night Hawks.

Speaker 2 (07:59):
Okay, yeah, he's right here. Okay, hey, hey, Mike, how
are you. I'm here with Dave Silver. So you guys
went in a nice run. How did this happen? What
kind of magic did you find? You know?

Speaker 4 (08:13):
I think offensively we started clicking. Defensively we started playing
well and our best teams took off. And once that happened,
you know we're If we're playing on on all three phases,
we're tough out.

Speaker 2 (08:25):
Yeah. In fact, we spoke to the coach from Green
Bay earlier this week. He says, one thing I don't
want to happen. I want defense to play a part.
I don't want to shoot out. And I'm thinking, this
is indoor football.

Speaker 4 (08:35):
How can you avoid it? Yeah, I mean I think
I don't think it'll be as high scoring. You know,
somebody's going to catch their catch their stride, and and defensively,
there's somebody's gonna gonna get some stops early and and
then it would be just see who perseveres and and
and take control of the game.

Speaker 6 (08:52):
We just talked to Jaden, of course, you know has
the two son ties seven touchdown passes and in the
in the championship game, what is he this table?

Speaker 4 (09:02):
He's a fear competitor.

Speaker 2 (09:03):
You know, he makes the right throws.

Speaker 4 (09:05):
He's so confident in what in his abilities and what
he's trying to do, and it makes life easier for us.

Speaker 2 (09:11):
Yeah youah, no question, he's not uh, he's not fearful.
He's just he just goes about his business. Did you
have him for the whole year? Did he play the
whole year or did he kind of show up later? No,
we had him a training camp.

Speaker 4 (09:23):
I signed him in January and had him since day one?

Speaker 6 (09:26):
What did you what did you see in him? You
know with his out outdoor game.

Speaker 4 (09:31):
But I mean he can make all the throws. Arm
talent is never an issue. You know, he's a sneakier.
He's a better runner than people give him credit for. Yeah,
so it's perfect for this for this game. And when
he cuts it loose, he I mean, he can shit
the ball in places that other people can't. So the
kid is just and he's not a kid. The young
man has just been a superior talent for us. And

you know he's got big things on the horizons.

Speaker 2 (09:57):
Yeah, yeah, no question. So when you were playing. How
much do you spend time on your team as opposed
to the other team or is it fifty to fifty
or what's the ratio?

Speaker 4 (10:07):
I mean we self glory ourselves, you know, offensively, defensively,
best teams rise and but you know the focus is on,
you know, doing what we can control, them what we
can control, and taking care of our business. And then
obviously you have to prep for for the your opponent.
And Green Bay's gonna be a tough Here'll be a
tough out.

Speaker 2 (10:23):
Yeah, their their quarterback. We have him on it as well.
A ton of touchdowns, ton of plays. Uh, you know,
like I said, they're they're not looking for offense, but
of course they're looking for offense.

Speaker 6 (10:32):
Of course they're seventy four to sixty. Yeah, the championship game,
Earth the semi final.

Speaker 2 (10:38):
What do you think? What are your thoughts on his plate?
The other quarterback?

Speaker 4 (10:42):
I mean Max? I mean, he's the MVP for a reason, right, right,
He's a standout, He's a standout talent. He's one thing
I noticed last year we talked about it is you know,
he he didn't turn them all over. He makes great decisions, right,
so we have to force him into some bad decisions,
to try to force him into some bad decisions and
try to make him one dimensional. If we can do that,
I think we'll have something suces.

Speaker 2 (11:01):
Yeah. Okay, well, coach, appreciate your time problem tomorrow. Yes,

I couldn't ask him about the heat because Vegas is yeah,
you know, thanks shake. I don't think we're gonna get
another guy, but we'll talk more maybe on the other

So if you have a chance. The tickets aren't very expensive.
I think they're twenty two twenty two bucks, that's which,
that's what they said right this week, and they want
the place to be packed to show to show up
to show. Two son cares well.

I think it'll be fun too, because they talk about
the tailgate and like, you know, I've never been into
the TCC just you know, not being from here, but
they said it was going to be inside, so it's
like the tailgate was going to be in a sense,
and so it's like, you know.

Speaker 6 (11:48):
Yeah, I mean there could be a little monsoon action
or something. They can kind of mess things up. It's
all outdoors. Yeah, five o'clock on Saturday.

Speaker 2 (11:54):
Does it hit you yet hit me a couple days ago, Uh,
not so much at our house.

Speaker 6 (11:59):
I think I told you the story about our experience
this weekend right on campus.

Speaker 2 (12:03):
That was like just that area, yeah, nowhere else. Yeah,
that was tense. Yeah, it's crazy. I saw that.

It got been pretty good on Saturday.

Speaker 2 (12:11):
Yeah, that's where you went around the U of A
four thirty.

Years so I was taking a nap, but actually put
me to sleep. It was nice.

I hope they get a good crowd.

It's one of those things who knows about Tucson with
something like this.

Speaker 2 (12:24):
Well they have to because this is a three year deal,
right yeah, And and they'll say, well that's that place
off the list.

Well, I mean, you know, let's give them a chance
this first year, and you know they don't know what
to expect, and then at least we'll have something, you know,
bounce bounce it off of next year.

Speaker 2 (12:40):
Oh we need to do this better or whatever. Well
we talked about that, because you still haven't seen the
press contry because they were not they were, but coach
Guy was bulling for Phoenix to get down here. Yeah.
Those if that team shows up. This place is packed,
you know, and maybe maybe two sons snuck in somehow,
but Phoenix did not show up, right, It's too bad.

At the same time too, it might it might help
out the Sugar Skulls for next year too. You know,
people get exposed to it, maybe if they hadn't been.

Made in terms of attendance and love for the game. Yeah, yeah, yeah,

You know, I wish that they would have done a
little more, you know, Jane Dolaura. I mean, just get
the name out so people can at least relate to
somebody on the teams as opposed to just the Tucson
team or you know now that.

Well, he did say he said that he was asked
to come here. They looked at him to bring him here,
said yeah, and he said no, and then ended up
over there.

Speaker 7 (13:35):
I wonder how like Vegas found him.

Speaker 2 (13:38):
You know, well, Tucson has Chen is the former coach
of here Tucson. He's their offensive coordinator up there, So
I'm sure that was part of it. Okay, Yeah, And
there's a lot of back and forth inquiries and agents
and but he's right, the money is not great. This
is this is just kind of a sliver of a
hope that somebody sees you to get caught up somewhere else.

I didn't realize is if he was with the U,
the ufl uf l up in Canada? Is it Canada?

No, No, that's the that's the one that he's in
San Antonio. Was the one that goes, okay in the spring.

You're right, you're right, And then that he had gotten cut.

Speaker 6 (14:13):
Yeah, I think I maybe i'd seen it in the
news somewhere along the line, and he was still right,
gets a chance to play. But you know, again, I'm
sure many of these guys it wasn't there who we
talked to somebody earlier in the year that played maybe
one of the high schools Dix. Did he continue on,
yeah he's still playing, Oh he was, Yeah, I think so.

Yeah, and then you just have that dream, right, hopefully
somebody sees you and uh or guess what, This real
world sucks because then you've got to get a real job.

And he talked about that too, you know, having to
go back to school for another semester.

J Yes, yeah, yeah, what's cool is good for him? Yeah,

I wonder how much turnover there is every year because

I wonder how much turnover there is on the rosters,

A ton. Yeah, I don't I think it's like twenty fourth.
It's not very They don't keep them because they kind
of find talent. They try to persuade another talent to
come down. And two sons one of the nice spots
because they treat them really well. The money's still the same.
It's not very good. JA didn't talked about teaching your
old self or talking to you. What would you do
real quick? What would you tell young Dave go to

medical school? No, that's realistic?

No, no, no, I don't know. I can't think. I
can't give a good answer on that one just yet.

Let me think, yeah, but I so you're still young,
But yeah, what would you tell uh maybe four years ago?
Don't get caught up and watch it so much more,
just because I mean, I don't know. It's like it's
kind of like how you say it's uh, like how
you talked about yesterday. It's like, you know, if they
lose all mess up your week if they win, don't

grow up.

I was actually gonna ask you earlier because he talked
about being in Dallas if you ever ran into like
Skip Bayless.

No, uh no. In fact, I worked at Dallas Morning News.
He worked the Dallas Times Herald, so he was a
competitor of the sports department. He was still the same
dude over there. Yeah, just cranky. We had a guy
named Randy Galloway and it was kind of like just
kind of the and there was a lot of great
columnists at the Dallas Morning News back then, so it
was it was a huge wars papers, huge paper war. Yeah,

back then Tim Kawashaw, he was at the Dallas Dallas
Morning News. Yeah, and the old dude with the Canada
with the column on Sunday, kind of like Greg. He
had the reputation of quirky, you know, just uh and
it'll come to me. In fact, they hired one at
The Republic from the Dallas Morning News just to note
those three dots three dots items in those things.

Yeah, I mean because Dan Jenkins came out of Fort Worth.
But I don't know if he ever worked. He must
have worked for one of the local papers before he
got good Time. But that whole group in Dallas with
all the stars right yea and TV too, honestly, yeah,
Principle and Dale Hansen, who had a long career. I
think he might be done, but he was at that station.
WFAA was a major powerhouse right back in the day
when the local stations.

We would try to shoot well, like you've got ten
people would come in.

like that. So we would probably bring back about eight games.
You know, all of a sudden, those games are coming back.
