Speaker 1 (00:00):

Tucson Sports Station yet Fox Sports fourteen fifty.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
Hey, welcome back to you on the ball here on
Fox Sports fourteen. Cookie, I'm Steve Rivera. You're Dave Silbert.
Now we have Jue not ready with breaking news.

Speaker 1 (00:18):
This is Eye on the Ball breaking news on Fox
Sports fourteen fifty.

Speaker 3 (00:24):
It's Aho Monday.

Speaker 2 (00:26):
That's what I just call you. Now, that's what it's.

Speaker 4 (00:27):
Just know what that means? Yeah, what does it mean?
That's a pretty little boy.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
Yeah, my little my little boy who can't do anything wrong.

Speaker 3 (00:38):
Lindo.

Speaker 2 (00:39):
Yes, kind of it's a not a direct.

Speaker 3 (00:41):
Transvection, but it's kind of like the little boy.

Speaker 2 (00:44):
He could be a bank robber. Oh, he would never wait,
I could get away with car. It's pretty okay. But yeah,
hell and.

Speaker 5 (00:55):
The prodigy boy. Yes, but Monday for breaking new Uh.
The Kobe Bryant Michael Jordan's sports card sold for a
record twelve point nine million dollars was not me?

Speaker 2 (01:09):
Nope, I didn't think so. I don't know if I'd
spend one two hundred and whatever on it.

Speaker 5 (01:15):
I don't think you spend one dollar. No, I probably wouldn't.
I think we talked about this before. What would you
spend money? Nothing, what depends what it was. But no,
if I had the money, Yeah, if you had the money,
how much would you spend for a certain thing? Think
that you want, you'd have to give me.

Speaker 2 (01:32):
I don't know, I don't know.

Speaker 3 (01:33):
That's what it is. I've never seen. You're not a fan,
so it's hard to come up with.

Speaker 2 (01:36):
So you know what, I would you know, when you
go to like the Vegas and you just go to
this big things like in Caesars, I think maybe like
Muhammad Ali something like that. I really don't. I have one,
but it's not signing, but one of those things that
are kind of cool, authentic, authentic, but but not really
any nothing more. I'm too old to do that. If
you had that, if you had the opportunity, yeah you
would take Yeah, yeah you did.

Speaker 3 (01:58):
It's probably the same idea. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (02:00):
I mean I like going into those stores, in those
you know, big malls in Vegas, especially just to kind
of see the stuff movie posters that might be signed,
or record albums that are signed. I mean, I'm fascinated
by it, but I wouldn't go out and buy, you know,
get the you know, a Beatles album or something for
one hundred thousand dollars.

Speaker 2 (02:16):
My younger guy might be doing it, but not now
I too will.

Speaker 3 (02:20):
I like I like that stuff though, I've always always had.

Speaker 2 (02:22):
You have some of that stuff in the in your
man cave a.

Speaker 3 (02:25):
Little bit, but not anything worth it, you know, like that?

Speaker 2 (02:29):
Yeah, because you know why when you pass, your kids
will give a crap.

Speaker 3 (02:32):
I don't care.

Speaker 5 (02:33):
They might want a couple of things. You I'm a
I'm a I'm a collectible guy. Yeah, because the miniature
copper helmet that you you used to wear.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, but that's okay, that's one
of the many things.

Speaker 5 (02:46):
One of the many things I used to Uh, I
don't have anything. I know this fan, Mario Nava, he's
the he's a he's a he wears the fireman helmet
all the time at the game. Oh yeah yeah, and
the on the I think the south side of the stadium. Uh,
he has he has a ton I've seen sure, I know.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
A lot of those dudes.

Speaker 6 (03:04):
Of those.

Speaker 4 (03:04):
There was a there was a family that I don't
even know if they're even in the area anymore, but
they were huge Green Bay packers.

Speaker 6 (03:09):
Fans.

Speaker 4 (03:09):
We did a story one time on TV at their house.
It was like in sar Rita or Green Valley, somewhere
down there. The entire house was decked out and packers stuff,
and some of it was pretty pretty pretty cool. I mean,
like sign things, you know, Reggie White here, Bart Star there,
all these great you know, Vince Lombardi stuff.

Speaker 3 (03:25):
But it was the entire house. It was a little
mint much.

Speaker 5 (03:29):
That's probably that'd be my house. But there you go,
yeah that is my house. Their whole house, I mean,
every room, bad kitchen.

Speaker 2 (03:41):
What do you can't move out? Go ahead?

Speaker 5 (03:49):
One of many reasons, but to continue breaking news. Some
Arizona volleyball. They played an exhibition game against Northern Colorado.
They won four zero usually those type of games and
three zero if you can sweep them. But they played.
They said beforehand they'd play four sets no matter what. Okay,
good for them. They must open their seasons soon. They

(04:09):
take They start the Wildcat Classic on Friday Insto Alabama State.
They'll play a game again again Saturday, Texas A and
M Corpus Christi, and then finished Refreessimal State on Sunday.

Speaker 2 (04:19):
So don't you think they would have had more momentum
than they did, although they won from last year.

Speaker 4 (04:24):
What time is a Saturday game? Twelve twelve thirty? Okay,
plenty clear out? Yeah, when does tailgate open? It's a fame.

Speaker 2 (04:33):
Yeah, well so like five hours before Friday. I'll ask
j We'll ask you that question because he'll have his tail.

Speaker 3 (04:40):
That's right, he'll know the answer.

Speaker 6 (04:41):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (04:42):
Oh so caming up right down right?

Speaker 2 (04:44):
Yep.

Speaker 5 (04:46):
Soccer is three and oh they beat New Mexico State
last Thursday, two zero. They'll take on the North Old
pat twelve foes in Stanford and California starting Thursday.

Speaker 2 (04:57):
Good luck with that. Stanford's always good.

Speaker 5 (04:59):
Yeah, we've talked about it. We're gonna be talking about
it all week. Arizona football starts this week. They play
the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors one to oh Hawaii Rainbow Warriors.

Speaker 2 (05:08):
I read a story over the weekend, uh a small.
I don't know if it's a tweet or a story,
because I just remember the headline where we're coming at
a time for the and we know this athletics is
going to get crunched here with money and and divving
out the twenty million dollars. Yea yeada and that the
Olympic sports are gonna get crushed.

Speaker 3 (05:30):
I don't know. I'm sure they're thinking about it.

Speaker 4 (05:32):
I'm sure that that's going to be on the mind
of just about every athletic director in the country as
to what what do you say you're going to do?
What do you say, what's worth it? Let's see, let's see.
I mean if this is the first year of this,
so yeah, let's maybe, you know, renew this conversation in
a couple of years and see what happened.

Speaker 2 (05:47):
That's it. That's that, Dave, if you give it two years,
des really, you know, remember last year, maybe you're probably
there when you actually you're going to cut any other
sports and she was adamant about it. What are you
going to say though at that time? Yeah, you know,
it's one of those.

Speaker 5 (06:01):
Impossible questions that you have to answer as an ad
and you get that you can get put on that platform. Yeah,
they're gonna get questions asked like that, and you just
have to try to and then maneuver around it.

Speaker 2 (06:11):
And then when it does happen, Dave, you put you
end up saying, well, back in a different time, yeah, yeah,
back seven months ago they said this, Well, yeah.

Speaker 5 (06:21):
I mean, I mean a year ago Arizona was a
potential college football playoff team, and now after that four
and eight season.

Speaker 4 (06:27):
Yeah, I think we have to experience this next year
or so with all the changes with the money and everything.
Let's just see what happens after a year. And there's
all kinds of enrollment issues on some of these campuses.
I don't know if you saw the stories about I mean,
the UFA's freshman numbers are going to be much different
this year. We did tell me there's a I don't
know what the number is exactly good. International students are
having a hard time yeah, getting back into the country, yeah,

(06:49):
or even wanting to come back into the country.

Speaker 3 (06:52):
So numbers are going to be down. So is this
the story? Did you see it?

Speaker 6 (06:55):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (06:56):
Okay, it was out there this weekend. Oh okay, that
makes sense.

Speaker 2 (06:59):
There was some I wanted to say to you, oh
part of the new or you're gonna talk about the food?
Would you do you already do that where where it
was said about, Uh, go ahead, it will remind me
of something.

Speaker 6 (07:11):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (07:12):
They showcase a little bit of what's going to be
out there this season.

Speaker 3 (07:15):
You have samples they did have.

Speaker 5 (07:17):
I didn't have they had samples.

Speaker 2 (07:20):
So the search charge, that's the whole thing.

Speaker 3 (07:23):
The tickets, the competitive fee.

Speaker 2 (07:25):
Yeah, I mean, now now it comes to fruition, right,
You've got tickets now you well, unless you have to
pay it back then when you get your ticket. But
that's going to be an issue for a while because.

Speaker 5 (07:34):
When tickets, I think every every competitive school is doing that.
Any any school that is already at the top or
wants to want to stay near the top, is going
to be doing those type of fees, extra fees to
tickets and different items.

Speaker 2 (07:47):
Possibly that's tough. Yeah, an extra fee, I mean fifty dollars.
I think it's fifty dollars, right, or at least fifty dollars,
depends on I don't know. Ticket for ticket. I think, well, Jay,
what's she's our guy. He's the fan. He's the fan
in the room because he's paying it, you know. He
loves the team.

Speaker 5 (08:06):
That went back to play the Milwaukee Brewers at four
forty so about half an hour. Tune into the Diamondbacks
if you want to. They're coming off a loss to
the Reds after but they did take the series. They
won two out of the three.

Speaker 2 (08:17):
But up into the Dodgers and the did they play
the Padres? Did play the Padres. They lost that series,
but won the last game eight to two. So are
they still it's a it's a tie. At the top
of the well.

Speaker 4 (08:30):
Did you see the highlights of Otani where he went
over to the fan, the Padre fan.

Speaker 3 (08:33):
He hit a home run. They're in San Diego. He
hits the home run.

Speaker 4 (08:35):
This fan, I guess I've been riding him the whole game,
yelling at him, and he came over after he hit
the home run. He gets the dug on, he goes
over the fan and he gives him like a high five.

Speaker 6 (08:45):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (08:45):
So he's a he's a good sport and he knows
you know he can he can he can do that
kind of stuff.

Speaker 3 (08:51):
Just you asked. They're both tied for that fourth place spot.

Speaker 2 (08:55):
Over the fourth place fourth Yeah, so in Milwaukee who
played in Chicago Diamondbacks today is at first Philadelphia and
then Chicago.

Speaker 5 (09:04):
Well with the Mets right behind the California teams. The
Ravens had their last preseason game of the preseason uh
and Tyler Loup had a sixty one yard field went.

Speaker 3 (09:18):
Three for three on the day.

Speaker 2 (09:19):
He landed in the perfect spot, perfect spot. Given the
situation with Tucker. Uh, he's a heck of a kicker.
He's going to be a huge fan over there. Huge.

Speaker 4 (09:31):
Oh, he's going to be a hope. So I mean
there's a lot of pressure though. I mean he's he's
replacing one of the all time greats. But still he's good.

Speaker 5 (09:40):
Yeah, from forty six, fifty two and then towards the
end of the game sixty he is a good kid,
great kid. They played the Washington Commanders. Who Jakorey KRASKI
merrit is on Cory Gotta. I gotta correct myself now
it's Bill Krossky Marrit Bill. That's easier name he wants
to be. He's preferred to be called Bill Bill. That's

(10:03):
a change. What do you prefer to be called Dave, sir?
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (10:12):
Dave is fighting with me.

Speaker 5 (10:14):
I prefer to be called Juan Steve not Ray.

Speaker 2 (10:19):
Okay, that's a good one. You with a little quick
humor there.

Speaker 3 (10:22):
I try.

Speaker 5 (10:23):
Texans running back Joe Mixon is going to miss at
least the four first first four games to start the season.
I see was not removed from the I R list,
so the text will be riled out their top running back.
Bengals and Trey Hendrickson have agreed to a big payday.
He'll be getting his extension.

Speaker 2 (10:43):
I don't know anything else but a big payday these days.

Speaker 5 (10:46):
Fourteen million, Yeah, Terry mc Terry McLaurin and the Commander
has also reached a three year deal worth up to
ninety six million. Amari Cooper is going to be reuniting
with the Raiders for on a one year deal, so
we could possibly see the maybe the last year.

Speaker 3 (11:03):
I don't nothings.

Speaker 5 (11:04):
Nothing is official about being his last year or so,
but he's as far as wide receiver time span in
the league.

Speaker 2 (11:11):
Didn't you talk a lot of crap like last year
before you give me the heck out of here? YadA, YadA. No,
you gotta go back. I'm not sure.

Speaker 3 (11:18):
I'm not sure.

Speaker 2 (11:18):
Maybe because it was with the Bills. Yeah, they switched
and moved him right last year. Never say bad things
about something because you might be going back. Are the
Raiders gonna be real good?

Speaker 5 (11:32):
I think they'll be competitive. They have Pete Carroll, they
have Gino Smith.

Speaker 6 (11:36):
And the.

Speaker 4 (11:38):
Running back from Boise States, gent Gent good in the preseason.

Speaker 5 (11:43):
Okay, Sanders Kid stylo Sanders get it waved off of
the Buccaneers.

Speaker 4 (11:51):
Yeah, roster, you punched the guy right in the middle.
I think that was the ceiling note punched the guy
in Buffalo, the tight end.

Speaker 3 (11:59):
Why would you do that? I don't know.

Speaker 2 (12:00):
But the guy with a helmet, Yeah, what are you
going to accomplish? Broken hand? Yeah?

Speaker 4 (12:06):
And then his brother didn't have much of a game either.
What sacked five times?

Speaker 3 (12:09):
I think so? I think so.

Speaker 4 (12:10):
I mean it was a rough Yeah, if you wanted,
he's made the team so far because they released one
of the other quarterbacks.

Speaker 3 (12:16):
They sign, they say that fifth option quarterback for a week,
let him. Yeah, but so they still have four yeah.

Speaker 2 (12:23):
Yeah. So well, if you want any tea on that
to go to Twitter, Twitter and watch Antonio Brown.

Speaker 3 (12:30):
He's got all the tea talking about the Sanders family.

Speaker 2 (12:33):
Yeah, just all that.

Speaker 7 (12:35):
Wow.

Speaker 2 (12:35):
Yeah, I guess, I guess he's had a he's had
a little tete a tete with Dion and everybody else.

Speaker 5 (12:42):
Yeah, ye, suld should I went three for six for
fourteen yards.

Speaker 6 (12:46):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (12:46):
Dylan Gabriel played most of the game, went twelve for nineteen,
one hundred and twenty nine yards and a touchdown.

Speaker 2 (12:52):
You know what do they play? I'm joking, but what
do they play?

Speaker 3 (12:55):
Cleveland? The Browns?

Speaker 2 (12:56):
And no one cares Brown? Sorry sorry mister Kelly. Yeah, Dave,
Well you know what they're saying. Where does who plays
in Theirs? Who plays Arizona? Yeah? Yeah, right?

Speaker 5 (13:08):
Who plays in Tucson? No one cares. The NFL season
does start in about a week and a half. Starts
Thursday with your Cowboys, My cowboys, don't give them to me.
Your your the Cowboys going up against the fending Super
Bowl champions. That's a Thursday game, Thursday at five to
twenty in where NBC Philly.

Speaker 2 (13:30):
Philly, Philly. Well that's a crushing blow. That's gonna be
a twenty point loss. We had a week zero games.
We talked about a little bit.

Speaker 5 (13:39):
I Always State beat Kansas State twenty four to twenty
one in Ireland, un ol V a little bit of
the surprise. On Saturday they only beat Idaho State by seven.
They were a thirty point favorite Arizonas what are they favorite?
Twenty they're over double digits. It I think it was
a I think it was over fourteen. I don't think
it was three touchdown.

Speaker 2 (14:00):
Okay, well really check it out, check it out, just
because because that's an interesting line.

Speaker 4 (14:05):
If it's twenty, there's one thing, it's it's seventeen, seventeen fourteen,
right in the middle this moment, right little yeah stuff.

Speaker 5 (14:12):
Yeah, Kansas beating down on Presno State thirty one seven,
and then of course Hawaii kicking that late Fielgal to
beat Stanford twenty three, twenty starting.

Speaker 2 (14:22):
Yeah what Vegas. Vegas had a win too with Mullens,
uh Mullen's new coach.

Speaker 5 (14:27):
They played what they play. I don't state, did you
say that? I just said that? Who listens to you?
We got a Who's down into who?

Speaker 2 (14:37):
No, I'm down? I followed it. I can't get out.

with the IFL Championship. Jay, how are you doing?

Speaker 6 (19:20):
I'm good? Are you guys? Good?

Speaker 2 (19:22):
Thanks? What did you make of Saturday?

Speaker 7 (19:28):
You know there's a couple of pieces. First of all,
it was.

Speaker 6 (19:30):
A great game. Incredible game, yes, I mean just an
unbelievable game. You know, people who did go and you know,
couldn't tear themselves away from it. I mean when you
see the way that thing went. Every both teams scored
on every possession except the last one. Yeah, you know,
and then the game the game has decided on a
failed h push tush or tush push what do they

(19:55):
call it. It was an unbelievable game. I thought the
event itself, uh, you know, showed well. You know, the
staff of the IFL and the Sugar Skulls who who
ran the show did it. I thought they did a
great job. You know, the the arena looked great, so
all of that stuff was great. I'd love disappointed in

(20:16):
the attendance. I had hoped for more, but I will
say that talking to an IFL person after the game,
they were happy with it, understanding that you know, these
are neither of these teams had any connection to Tucson.
You know, they had a pretty good feeling. I don't
even't know what they were expecting I was hoping for.

(20:38):
You know, four thousand, thirty five hundred and four thousand,
we didn't get that the announced attendance was thirty two.
But beyond that, you know, I thought, I thought it
was a great event. I think, you know, I hope
when I hope that everybody went last year comes back

(20:59):
next year and bring somebody with them, because for the
event itself, I thought was spectacular. You couldn't have asked
for a better football game.

Speaker 4 (21:08):
Yeah, it was fun. It was really fun to watch.
As you said, I mean, it was just as offensive
as you can get. When nobody could stop anybody and
the offenses were moving. That's pretty much the style of
that game though, right, I mean, that's kind of what
you expect.

Speaker 6 (21:21):
It was. You know, these two teams were the number
one and two teams and total offense in the league,
so you expected some fireworks, and you know, you kind
of thought whoever made, whoever gets a stop or two
wins the game. And that's what happened. The one team
that got one stop won the game.

Speaker 12 (21:41):
Uh.

Speaker 6 (21:41):
You know, on a media day I spoke to Matt Barren,
who's the offensive coordinator for Green Bay, and you know,
I said, Matt, I said, what's gonna happen? He was,
Who's just going to be a lot of scoring, that
both of these teams can score, and they're gonna score,
and it's just going to be who you know who,
who's standing at the end. And you know, we were talking.

(22:01):
I was standing with with our stat crew through the
whole game, and through the whole game we were just saying,
last one with the ball wins the game. That's not
what happened. But it was the one team that made
a start that won the game.

Speaker 13 (22:13):
Right.

Speaker 2 (22:13):
It's funny you say that because when when Vegas missed
the extra point, I'm thinking, Okay, that's could be the difference.
And then when green Bay hit the hit the two pointer,
I'm thinking, oh, that could be the difference.

Speaker 6 (22:26):
And yeah yeah, and also there's so many things along
the way.

Speaker 2 (22:34):
Yeah, no question. So you talked to an I f
L person, so they were okay, pleased with it. Obviously.
I think we can all say this, or at least
I will say this now. I think the hope for
one of the owners, Kevin, Uh, if Phoenix comes in,
they sell that place out.

Speaker 6 (22:52):
Yes, yeah, there there there would have been six thousand
people at the game. If the ratters pretty in it,
maybe more they may have. They may have folded out. Uh.

Speaker 7 (23:00):
You know, and you gotta understand some of you know, Vegas.

Speaker 6 (23:03):
You know, they're they're relatively new franchised. I think this
is their fourth year. You know, they're still gaining a
you know, a fan base. And while there were you know,
uh a good number of fans, there weren't a ton.
Green Bay brought more people than than Vegas did. I
don't know if we saw yeh, you know, the people
of the Green Bay fans over in the corner, there
were more of them there were Vegas. And Vegas is driveable,

(23:26):
so but Green Bay has been around. I think this
is their twelfth or thirteenth year. They've got a fan following.
They you know, they came, so you know it's gonna
be something like that. It's certainly, you know, one of
the reasons that that that the game is here too soon,
that Todd try and the commissioner said, is that they
want to keep this game out West because this is
where they take the league is strong. Where you've got

(23:47):
three teams in Arizona, you've got San Diego, you've got Vegas,
you've got Bay Area that you know, the sort of
the you know where the ifail's planet's lag is here
in Arizona and certainly the Rattlers are sort of the
you know, the marquee uh franchise of the of the league.

Speaker 3 (24:08):
Kind of cool too.

Speaker 4 (24:08):
To have Jaden de Laura be the m v P,
that was kind of an added touch, an extra touch
to the game.

Speaker 3 (24:13):
I had to work out.

Speaker 6 (24:14):
Well, oh absolutely, you know, and and we we tried
to We tried to plug that as much as we could,
try to get him on some radio shows. I think
he went on Justin's show. I couldn't get him on,
you know, I was doing the meet. I couldn't get
him on either to the afternoon shows. But he was
that media day. You know, he got surrounded when when
the uh you know, when the breakouts came up and
everybody had their time with him. Michael Michael lev did

(24:39):
a you know, a long piece on him that ran
on Saturday morning.

Speaker 7 (24:42):
So, you know, it was great to have him here.

Speaker 6 (24:45):
I got a chance to talk to him. You know,
he seemed like a good I don't remember seeing did
we have him on the show once when he was here?

Speaker 3 (24:55):
Yes, I think so, okay.

Speaker 6 (24:57):
I told him that, I said, I think we hadge
on our job. He sounded like he remembered me, but
we chatted for a little while and you know, look,
he really was very straight up with Michael.

Speaker 7 (25:06):
You know, this is his this is where he's at,
this is.

Speaker 6 (25:09):
Where his football career is at. He's trying to, you know,
see if something happens and it's not going to go
on with his life. And I thought that was a
really good way to handle it. He didn't shy away
from any of the interviews or anything. And then the
fact that he was the MVP, you know, it was
pretty cool. I thought it was pretty cool. He had
Fish showed up to watch him. All that was cool.

Speaker 2 (25:31):
No, exactly because we did have him on that fight
and you got him for a little and even in
his discussions with justin the day of that morning of
I thought he was his demeanor and his presentation was great,
and with us he was having fun, right. Yeah, No
board power to him because he said he was out
for a year and then he decided to come back.
And I even asked him, this game seems like it

(25:51):
fits you. He says, no, it doesn't. My arms too strong,
My arm's too strong, and it's too small of a field.

Speaker 6 (25:59):
I heard him say that. I didn't know what the
what that was a question to But But but the
other hand, though, you know, with the way he plays,
you know, sort of the gun slinger throwing the ball.
I mean, he threw a couple of balls on Saturday
that you know, completely a couple of packs and the
ages when you can't throw that in college because or
even or you know, in the NFL, because that that

(26:19):
ball gets either picked or knocked down. But you know,
he made some plays and and he made all the
plays he needed to make, uh, you know, to to
win the game. But he you know, he was fun
to watch. And I hope the fans here got you
got a taste of that because you know, again, you know,
I've always liked indoor football to hockey. It's a whole
different game when you go to a game, and and

(26:40):
I hope that the people who saw this game saw
the excitement of it. You know, we'll say when he
comes around next.

Speaker 7 (26:48):
I went to that last year.

Speaker 6 (26:49):
That was really fun. I'm going again. Hey, come with me.
You know, I know you were sitting there right there
by by my brother and my wife and our other
friend John, and they've they talked at halftimes that they
were going to leave, and I guess they stayed for
the whole thing so they couldn't peel themselves away, you know,
because there was that kind of a game.

Speaker 7 (27:09):
You couldn't.

Speaker 6 (27:09):
You couldn't. There was no there was no time to
get up and say, okay, it's it's not fun anymore,
I'm leaving. I mean, they were, you know, sometimes scoring
on two plays. It was crazy.

Speaker 2 (27:19):
So let me ask you real quickly. So, given that
you've been in and out of this league a few times,
do you remember what what or can you say what
was the attendance to last year's or the year before?
Because they played it in Vegas, didn't they?

Speaker 6 (27:33):
Yeah, I don't know what the attendance was in Vegas.
What I do know is that when it came time
to to renew the the the contract, they put it
out to bid. So I don't know if there was
some I don't know, some disappointment with the with Vegas
or anything. I can't say that. I have no way

(27:55):
of knowing that. Uh, But what I do know is
that when when it came time to either renew and
go back to Vegas, they decided that you know, they too,
some put up a bid and Tuson got the game
so I don't know what the what the attendis was.
I'm trying to look it up right now, see if
I can find.

Speaker 2 (28:15):
And my second question real QUI the game and my
second you have it up.

Speaker 3 (28:19):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (28:20):
Fun.

Speaker 5 (28:20):
So it looks like it was the Rattlers in the
in the Massachusetts fifty three sixteen, the Ratlers one within
the tens of just under two thousand.

Speaker 3 (28:29):
Wow, two thousand wow.

Speaker 6 (28:31):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (28:31):
In Las Vegas, Wow, the Rattlers were in it.

Speaker 2 (28:35):
So, so Jay, let me ask you this because you
you were helping up at the Rattlers and see when
when they first announced this team whatever years ago, six,
seven years ago, whatever it was, and then they showed
the highlights, right, and they show the highlights of the
Rattlers where it's packed. At least that's what the perception was.
And Ies told me, and I'm thinking, this is going
to be cool. It's loud, it's crazy, it's YadA YadA,

(28:56):
and then you go and then you don't see that.
That's what kind of is the disappoint.

Speaker 7 (29:01):
Well, here's the here's the thing.

Speaker 6 (29:03):
You know that that first season COVID really killed it
and there's still feeling the effects of that.

Speaker 7 (29:08):
Because that first season. I think we bridged over four thousand.

Speaker 2 (29:13):
You know, yeah, I remember that, you know, I mean.

Speaker 6 (29:16):
Remember that that that opening game.

Speaker 7 (29:17):
You were like fifty five hundred and six thousand.

Speaker 6 (29:20):
At that gig. So we you know, we were pulled
in it, and there was a lot of momentum. The
Sugar Skulls got to the playoffs and we had we
were doing really well.

Speaker 7 (29:28):
On season tickets for the twenty twenty season.

Speaker 6 (29:31):
We had announced a red out for the first game
and we were gonna have red uniforms. We were selling uh,
game one tickets at the at Park Mall during Christmas,
and I mean ticket sales were going great. Then the
season died and it was and basically the league disappeared
for a year, and so they just lost a ton

(29:52):
of momentum. And then they've had a couple of tough years.
I know they've been to the playoffs once, but you know,
it all of a sudden, it was just kind of
gone with and that's just bad luck, you know that
that that happened. But I do. I'm really hoping that
this game, and I'd like to think that this game
that maybe some people went to this game who didn't
go to a Sugar Club game last week. You know,

(30:13):
during the season, they might say, wow, that was fun.
Let's you know, let's do a few a few more
of those next year, and a few more of those,
you know, the year after. And you know, this game
in particular, it's got to get some momentum. It's got
it's got to get that word of mouth right that
people had a great time at this game. You know,
I was at the at the pregame tailgate party and

(30:35):
there were people coming in. You know, there were several
hundred people in there, you know, just kids playing on
the field, and there were maniachi's and there was there
was some radio remotes, and there was a dj uh
you know, the GCC had the concessions open, there was
a beer garden. I looked like people were having fun.
I had to leave, you know, to go do the

(30:56):
business I had to do to get ready for the game.
But the first hour of the tailgate there were.

Speaker 7 (31:00):
People coming in and it looked like it was a
pretty well attended It was free, right nobody, and it
was indoors. So there's there's obviously gonna have to be
a lot of.

Speaker 6 (31:08):
Things that the league, as well as the Sugar culls
and running this game are going to have to look
at and do some you know, to do some you know, just.

Speaker 7 (31:18):
Debrief and kind of take a look what works like.

Speaker 6 (31:20):
Didn't that kind of thing. Overall, I think the league
was happy. I didn't talk to the commissioner after the game,
but I did talk to pretty much the guy who
who a guy Namayor who ran the operations from the
i FL side. I want to talk about that. I got,
I gotta throw out, I got throw out. You know

(31:41):
some names of a couple of people, Yes, me and
Lofez and uh and Christy Crystal Soto who ran the game. Right.
Crystal is the one who's on the field doing the promotions.
Yasmine runs the she's the director, right, she's running the script.
And the two of them, they worked the butts off
and they did such a great job. And you know,

(32:03):
from where I sat up in the press box, it
looked like the event ran without a hitch, with the
exception of as CBS had moved the game back seven
minutes at the very start. So at the very beginning,
a little standing up because like at the last second
they said we got to move it back seven minutes
and then that word didn't get to the to the director,

(32:25):
you know, the announcement in time to move everything back,
and they did the introductions and all that stuff.

Speaker 7 (32:31):
But it, you know, I think as an event, it
was a great It.

Speaker 3 (32:35):
Was pretty smooth.

Speaker 4 (32:36):
You know, it was funny too, and maybe it wasn't
really that terrible. But if even at the end when
the game was over, it took a long time to
get that trophy presentation, and I felt really bad for him.
I don't remember his name, but the guy on the
air for CBS Sports Network where it was just filling
for like, oh, he was just talking. I mean it
was it was you know, they needed to kind of
tighten that up a little bit, but otherwise kind of

(32:56):
on TV. I got home to see the last few
minutes and it was pretty good. I mean, and the
replays were great. On the final play, it was you know,
it was compelling to watch. And complaints.

Speaker 2 (33:05):
Yeah, well, he talked about to the last was at
the last play for the review and he says, you know,
Kevin Guys is going to be really p o if
this is overturned or whether you know what I'm saying,
because I guess you can't do that unless you have
a time out or something.

Speaker 6 (33:19):
Yeah, well I was down there. I was right, I
was right next to where they were doing the review.

Speaker 7 (33:23):
And Kevin was right.

Speaker 6 (33:24):
There, kid, because he had been in one of those
areas at the end, you know, the what what we
call sweets, and I don't know if he was joking around,
but he was running around.

Speaker 7 (33:34):
Saying, that's a touchdown, that's a touchdown.

Speaker 6 (33:36):
He wants he was. I think he was joking, like
you said, overturn and overturned and knowing that it would
create so much k.

Speaker 7 (33:44):
But I thought from where I stood, I.

Speaker 6 (33:47):
Thought they got it right. You know, they tried to
they tried to do the you know, the snake and
they turned the quarterback sideways and I just don't think
he ever got in.

Speaker 2 (33:55):
No, we talked about, we talked about So let me
ask you before I ask the next ques. You're gonna
be in fron so we won't talk about Arizona until
you come in. Yeah, okay, So yeah, so let me
ask you. The one thing that I think we all,
at least some of us agreed on what we talked
about was the was the acoustics and the speakers. Yeah,
difficult to hear.

Speaker 6 (34:18):
I don't know if that's if that's a sound system
thing or from where I said I could hear maybe
being down in the seats, it sounds different from where
I sat up in the press box.

Speaker 7 (34:28):
But you know, with the I think it's an old system, Steve,
So it could be it could be as.

Speaker 6 (34:34):
Much to do with that. And that's the TCC thing
I didn't because I'll tell you this, I cannot hear
at Micheale Center, and that's like an up to.

Speaker 7 (34:43):
Date system, like especially when I was sitting down.

Speaker 6 (34:46):
At the table a court side, I could not I
could not hear a word that was said. But I
feel like up in the seats I can hear a
little better. But I don't know. I don't know if
that's acoustics or what, but that it's certainly not not
a thing that you know, being not that the that
the Sugar Sculls can't do anything about it.

Speaker 5 (35:05):
No, no one, I think for me, the p A
answer I heard pretty clearly. It was the refs where
I couldn't really hear anything. I didn't know what was
being called or that.

Speaker 6 (35:14):
Yeah, that was I don't know what the what the
what the deal was with the with the referee microphones.
But yes, I thought that was a little low. You know,
sometimes you got a ref he just doesn't project well enough,
and that might have been that. So I don't know.

Speaker 2 (35:29):
Okay, well I think that's it. Uh, And you got
a lot of TV time. You weren't a little jacket.

Speaker 6 (35:34):
There I dressed up. Sometimes we gotta go.

Speaker 2 (35:39):
We gotta call. It's Dillard's calling. They want you to
plan for their job.

Speaker 3 (35:43):
They're going to give you an other jacket.

Speaker 6 (35:46):
Hey, that that man's warehouse. That's the man wear the
same thing.

Speaker 3 (35:49):
That's me too.

Speaker 2 (35:50):
They're still around.

Speaker 7 (35:55):
Yeah, okay, so right over here.

Speaker 6 (35:57):
Sorry, he's gonna be all it where how all the time? Man?

Speaker 2 (36:01):
Okay, we'll see you on Friday.

Speaker 6 (36:03):
It was but it was a lot of fun.

Speaker 7 (36:05):
I hope you guys saw it.

Speaker 6 (36:06):
It played well. I think it was a lot of fun.
I think it was a good event. There's always things
to work on and we'll see what we'll see what
we do for next year.

Speaker 2 (36:14):
Okay, cool, thanks a bunch. We'll see you Friday, guys.

Speaker 7 (36:17):
Thanks a much.

Speaker 6 (36:18):
Okay, all right, I think.

Speaker 2 (36:20):
All points were maybe. Yeah, you know, it was the
game and here's the shock of why time two thousand
in Vegas right now. Well, there's more things to do
in Vegas. But still, I mean, this is a big
do you think it's about of a big deal?

Speaker 4 (36:31):
It wasn't their team who I forget who in Massachusetts
And yes again it's you know, it's a neutral site
if you if you want to call it, Yeah, maybe
they should think about putting it in.

Speaker 2 (36:42):
I think they have, because that's in Arizona. I think
I think they have. They've had it the Rattlers for
a number of years and they've always winning it, you know,
and they think, well, let's remember week they had it
the pack pack ten pack ten uh, and there was
one I won the league and they played here all
the time, and well, of course.

Speaker 3 (36:57):
Right, I don't know.

Speaker 4 (36:58):
I mean for something like that, it's a kind of
a novelty for a lot of sports fans. You know,
all of you and I have all three of us
have never really been in too many of those games before.
So you know, I went there kind of with an
open mind and like like Jay was saying, you have
to kind of see it in person because it is
a different.

Speaker 2 (37:14):
It's a different game of football.

Speaker 3 (37:16):
It's almost like flag football and football.

Speaker 4 (37:19):
You're play in the backyard kind of kind of activity
with eight players.

Speaker 2 (37:22):
So if I gave you assignment to cover it again,
you're fine with it. Right. Do you think would you
go as a fan?

Speaker 3 (37:27):
Yeah? I would. I like the I like the game,
and I like the experience.

Speaker 6 (37:32):
Dave, I'd go.

Speaker 4 (37:32):
As a fan, surety. I want to hold you to it.
I'll go to one game.

Speaker 2 (37:38):
Yeah, well, we go to a couple. It depends, you
know how good it is, right, Yeah, Okay, let's go
take a break and maybe take some calls.

Speaker 7 (43:39):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (43:40):
So I didn't. I didn't get to get to go.
But I got a bone to pick with you.

Speaker 2 (43:44):
Oh go ahead, you're you're the second guy.

Speaker 7 (43:46):
To do the first one is the first one is
obviously Jay said.

Speaker 20 (43:50):
Did the most exciting game and blah blah blah, and.

Speaker 7 (43:54):
You leave in the third quarter.

Speaker 2 (43:55):
You left in the third quarter? Yeah, how in the have?

Speaker 20 (43:59):
So if I if I take you dancing and you're
dancing with the hottest chick.

Speaker 6 (44:03):
In the place, and.

Speaker 20 (44:04):
You're gonna leave at nine thirty past my bedtime.

Speaker 2 (44:06):
Wait a second, dude, she's going home with me, So
I'm leaving early.

Speaker 3 (44:12):
You give you those second.

Speaker 20 (44:14):
My second bone to pick with you is your mister.
Every every there's no momentum. Every play is a new play,
and every game is a new game. Yes, but yet
I think Brian was the caller and Dave and you
keep saying, oh, Arizona, they let you down, and this
and that, and how come it's.

Speaker 12 (44:35):
Not this year?

Speaker 20 (44:36):
Or how come you're not saying, hey, it's a new year,
Oak Springs Eternal.

Speaker 2 (44:41):
I didn't say anything otherwise. I mean, it's another year.
Every day is the season, and here's another season. What
do you want me to say?

Speaker 20 (44:51):
No, it looks like you are doom and groom with
Brian and Dave earlier and.

Speaker 2 (44:55):
About the season. Yeah, no, no, I picked them since six?
Is that doing gloom?

Speaker 7 (45:03):
Well?

Speaker 20 (45:03):
No, it just seemed like like earlier in the conversation
you you were like, hey, uh, what do you expect
and blah blah blah that it's not gonna look good and.

Speaker 6 (45:15):
Every year they let us down.

Speaker 2 (45:17):
And no, no, I'm saying, I'm setting up the question
for these guys because guess what they've done to you,
They've let you down.

Speaker 7 (45:25):
Wow, But this is this is a new year, and
this is the year they're not gonna let us down. No,
it's gonna be the second coming.

Speaker 2 (45:31):
Okay, Okay, thanks for the momentum.

Speaker 3 (45:37):
It's good to be optimistic when it's.

Speaker 2 (45:38):
Yeah, I mean, I'm just being realistic. I'm not being
either either or And it was just a question, but
I understand.

Speaker 20 (45:44):
But but honestly, you guys, honestly, where do you they
have the right building block? Because it's always a quarterback
you build around. And I know last year, I hope
it was an aberration and it was a tough year all.

Speaker 7 (45:58):
The way around. But the kid has been a.

Speaker 20 (46:01):
Winner since Little League and that didn't stop in high
school and he played it, you know, against the great
modern day and boxtball teams and everybody knocked him then
and he won there and then he gets to Arizona
wins there, so he he he's kind of a proven
commodity minus last year, and that's something. And then with

(46:24):
this guy Daggy coming in, you've got to give him
a little little tip of the cap and think.

Speaker 7 (46:31):
That they're gonna.

Speaker 20 (46:32):
Pull off a little little magic somewhere along the line.

Speaker 2 (46:35):
Well, I think, I think if there's a guy that's
been bought in, it's the guy that's on this other mic.

Speaker 5 (46:40):
Yeah, I've had him at eight and five since since
what makes two years old?

Speaker 6 (46:46):
But I'm going with you.

Speaker 20 (46:48):
I'm going I'm going eight and four two.

Speaker 5 (46:51):
It's not out of left field eight and four. You know,
I've said it all off season. If Arizona can win
the state and that's not just an issue, it's winning
every home game and every game they play in the state,
that's an eight and fourteen.

Speaker 7 (47:05):
Heck yeah, well put and I'm on your bath.

Speaker 6 (47:08):
I'll buy your beer when I see you.

Speaker 3 (47:10):
I'll take it.

Speaker 4 (47:11):
I'll tell you that's what seven home games, seven home
games on the trip game?

Speaker 3 (47:17):
Why not? But I I'm optimist.

Speaker 7 (47:21):
I'm serious.

Speaker 2 (47:22):
No, No, So I was just gonna ask you, are
you being because you're a big fan or because you're
not being realistic?

Speaker 7 (47:27):
And no, I'm kind of be realistic.

Speaker 20 (47:30):
I've talked to you know, football guys at that party Saturday,
and I'm telling you, man that I've been a big
believer in Noah since day one. And that's where you
start if you're building a football team. I mean you
can look at you know.

Speaker 7 (47:45):
Look at uh.

Speaker 20 (47:46):
Brady and all the rest of them. What they they
build around those guys, And he's just been a winner
ever ever since i've seen him as a young youngster,
and that's where you start. And I think I just
I just have like a little gut feeling they're just
gonna surprise the heck out of everybody.

Speaker 2 (48:04):
Okay, well, next time you take me to a little
Mexico and I have the hot chick. I ain't staying
past nine pint thirty two either.

Speaker 6 (48:11):
Got it?

Speaker 7 (48:12):
All right, go a great show today.

Speaker 2 (48:18):
We'll see. I mean, we got another call. Okay, cool, Hello,
you're on the air Night of the Ball. Who's this, Nico?
We've been waiting for you. What's up?

Speaker 13 (48:28):
Hey man? I've been out of state.

Speaker 2 (48:29):
Man, out of state? Okay, they have phones out of state.

Speaker 13 (48:33):
Yeah, man, but you know Texas man, it's a different place.

Speaker 3 (48:37):
Yes, what do you got hey man?

Speaker 13 (48:40):
I've been gone awhile, but man didn't want move to
like Missouri or.

Speaker 2 (48:47):
It's a long story there story. Yeah, he went to Louisville,
stayed for a cup of coffee and didn't like the coffee.

Speaker 13 (48:55):
Hey man, Well, apparently still out of his mind thinking
they're gonna go.

Speaker 20 (48:59):
All right?

Speaker 2 (49:00):
Does he spiked that coffee a little bit?

Speaker 3 (49:02):
A little bit?

Speaker 2 (49:02):
Yeah, you gave him some of your stuff, Nico, What
do you.

Speaker 13 (49:05):
Think the best case scenario they go six and six?

Speaker 2 (49:09):
Yeah, you you have tickets with your dad.

Speaker 13 (49:11):
Right, Nah, Man, we get rid of that.

Speaker 2 (49:14):
See, that's and that's part of the problem. That's part
of the problem, right, Yeah, could you have.

Speaker 13 (49:19):
A man the problem was spending three hundred deer man,
That was.

Speaker 3 (49:26):
Honest. Man here.

Speaker 2 (49:27):
Yeah, we'll see, we'll see. Uh. Good to hear from you, Nico.
All right, Nico, always call the day pretty honest. Yeah,
that's all you know.

Speaker 4 (49:38):
The concession prices are going down this year. Maybe you
can go back right, smaller beers.

Speaker 2 (49:44):
Yeah, we'll see whatever.

Speaker 5 (49:46):
Maybe I had too many of those seem four, but
I see it. I see it right now.

Speaker 2 (49:49):
I think it's possible. I think it's possible in your
world of hitting all their home games. What's the toughest
one in Kansas State? What's the toughest home game? The
toughest home game?

Speaker 5 (49:59):
Uh, I think possibly Kansas or that Baylor late in
the season when you might need that that sixth win
or something to just get you over the edge.

Speaker 2 (50:08):
Okay, so you gave me Kansas Baylor, and then Kansas
State is the fourth one.

Speaker 5 (50:13):
I would say b Yu. Okay, they're they're uncertaining their quarterback.
You don't know what they have behind center. But they're
very talented and well put together program. They're gonna compete,
They're gonna they're gonna they're never gonna get blown out.

Speaker 2 (50:27):
So you have them going eating for they have to
win on.

Speaker 5 (50:30):
The home games in your world, yep, I think they
get a couple couple away wins as well.

Speaker 3 (50:35):
Who they lose.

Speaker 5 (50:37):
They lost to Iowa State, they lost to the conference
championship teams last year, Arizona State, I was State.

Speaker 3 (50:45):
I do have them losing that b YU.

Speaker 5 (50:46):
I just think, yeah, yeah, oh, but you have them losing,
have them losing Okay, that's the one home loss, and
then losing at Cincinnati. I just think that's a tough
road trip late in November Okay, I've had that one.

Speaker 3 (51:01):
Circled as a loss for a long while.

Speaker 2 (51:03):
Okay, and to me, that's see, what do we know
about Cincinnati? Right? So in your mind they did okay,
maybe the office champions last season. So yeah, okay, a.

Speaker 4 (51:15):
Lot of questions because we don't know what these teams
are all about ourselves at this point.

Speaker 2 (51:19):
We don't know the games.

Speaker 3 (51:21):
Yeah, I mean, it's it's gonna be.

Speaker 4 (51:22):
Fun just to watch these first few weeks who breaks
away from the pack a little bit and then make
our predictions from there.

Speaker 2 (51:29):
So I talked about the attendance, and you guys gave
me the weekend. What do you think? What do you
They can't they can't go under forty.

Speaker 3 (51:37):
I was gonna say forty, no more.

Speaker 4 (51:39):
I can't imagine doing more than forty on a holiday
weekend in the summer.

Speaker 6 (51:43):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (51:43):
Maybe I'm being pessimistic.

Speaker 2 (51:45):
Don't do that. I'm contagious.

Speaker 5 (51:47):
Apparently, Apparently, I'll probably say around that same number. I
think I think most of the stadium will be that
Zona zoo h till till nine o'clock till till about
maybe second quarter. If Arizona can get off to a
hot start. You won't see that suitio section for long.
Maybe you will, maybe they'll like the show, maybe they'll stay,

(52:08):
but they're usually there for About the traditions.

Speaker 4 (52:11):
Do we know of I don't. I mean other than
the music and stuff like that. They talked about like
either pregame.

Speaker 5 (52:16):
Or those having a new raffle or and in game,
in game competitions or contests or giveaways.

Speaker 3 (52:23):
That's what I heard.

Speaker 2 (52:23):
Oh they do.

Speaker 3 (52:24):
Yeah, okay.

Speaker 4 (52:25):
And another factor, I hate to say it is we're
sitting here and I'm getting weather alerts on my phone.
Is that could also be an issue of course this
time of year. So okay, who knows?

Speaker 2 (52:32):
With that, we got to go. Thanks everybody, talk to
you guys tomorrow
