fifty eight.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
Hey, welcome back to win about here on Fox Sports
fourteen fifty I'm Steve Rivera, your one with breaking news.
Speaker 1 (00:16):
This is I on the Ball, breaking news on Fox
Sports fourteen fifty eight.
Speaker 3 (00:21):
Happy Wednesday, everyone out there. Here's truly me de Lindo,
my last day of the week. Let's get into it,
starting with Arizona Athletics. Steve It's transfer portal season. Yeah,
someone just got in, Yes, but before that, Michael Woutin
and Chancell Orens did announce that they intend to enter
the transfer portal once it opens up, as well as
Brandon Locke, who just announced about ten seconds ago.
Speaker 2 (00:43):
Yeah, I don't think well with a new kid come
in the Rios kid. Yeah, and if Noah comes back,
which is more than likely, right, Yep, season the other
guy and move on. Yep, rinse or washing rinse and repeat.
Speaker 3 (00:57):
I think that was, in my eyes, that was a
planel a lot for a guy like Locke really no
ties to Arizona, but you have a young coordinator coming in,
You're behind a somewhat seasoned veterans. You know, I believe
he transferred in from Wisconsin. So you know, just try
to get a fresh start in your career. See if
(01:17):
you can learn under Brett Brennan said THEE and even
know Fafida and then see obviously you saw the writing
on the wall with oscar Rio's so you take what
you can from Tucson and try to find something better elsewhere.
Avery Scoggins for Arizona Volleyball is also intending to answer
the transfer portal. She announced there is also the possibility
(01:40):
of other players entering as well. But I think greatest
stubs still in a good place. Yeah, yeah, yeah, no question.
And if you're good, if you're good, like I'm sure
she is right, yeah, that other programs will be calling.
Speaker 4 (01:54):
YEP. I couldn't believe.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
I had We had Bun Vassini on yesterday and she
was talking about how much the kids were making that
other schools women's basketball really like Locked.
Speaker 3 (02:04):
Well, I'm sure that like the Texas Tech picture, Yeah,
but it was even she even mentioned that it was
more tc US the Iowa states like the one who
trans were there from here making six hundred thousand dollars.
Speaker 4 (02:15):
Wow, six hundred thousand.
Speaker 3 (02:16):
Dollars being all for that.
Speaker 2 (02:19):
That's not the record of course, just in case somebody
dies in my life.
Speaker 4 (02:26):
U I mean, and that's that's the world of college
sports now.
Speaker 2 (02:31):
Yeah, it's unbelievable. It's unbelievable.
Speaker 3 (02:33):
So so if you take that from the woman's women's
side of the game, right, and that's that's she is
who she is as a player. Yeah, think about the
arch mannings of the world. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, beyond
And I don't get it. I don't get it.
Speaker 2 (02:46):
The Diego pas right right, he's a gift from in
my area. Let me ask you, so, do you believe
in the influencers?
Speaker 4 (02:54):
Do you have like the TikTokers? Yeah? Do you you know?
Come on? Do you Yeah? What do they make you do?
What do they influence you to do?
Speaker 5 (03:04):
Well? Not me?
Speaker 4 (03:05):
Well you have them?
Speaker 3 (03:06):
I just I look, I don't because sometimes I sometimes
they'll ask to like, hey, like subscribe here and then
donate here and stuff like that.
Speaker 4 (03:16):
Uh do I just watch? All I do is watch them?
Speaker 2 (03:19):
What are they putting themselves on fire? What are they doing?
Speaker 3 (03:22):
Sometimes I'll just talk it. They'll make funny videos stuff
like that, Hey, give me.
Speaker 4 (03:26):
A generation, make you laugh. Give me five bucks. I'll
make you laugh most of the time.
Speaker 3 (03:31):
Okay, Well I'm trying to I'm trying to make it
to the next day. Okay.
Speaker 4 (03:37):
You respect when I get the chance to call it
the grinch, do I Yeah? But it's getting old, is it.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
It won't be old after January December twenty fifth, it'll
be old.
Speaker 3 (03:49):
But that's year round for you. It's just speaking of
women's sports. Arizona women's basketball got back on track today
with an eighty seven eighty three win over Eastern Kentucky.
Speaker 2 (04:02):
Wow, you did say that they squeaked it out.
Speaker 3 (04:04):
Yeah, it was a free throw battle at the end,
but Arizona was led by MICHAELA. Perdue Mickey Perdue with
twenty seven points. Lonnie Cornfield had twenty two with eight
assists and five remous.
Speaker 2 (04:16):
So who's the one that was on the press conference
Cornfield twenty two? Yes, uh not the one that helped
twenty seven. Yeah, Cornfield. I'd loved her answers. You know,
some days they got it, some days they don't. I
mean teads you need you, you get the needle there,
and and sometimes you don't.
Speaker 3 (04:34):
Yeah, I mean against Southern against New Mexico, they didn't.
It wasn't It wasn't enough.
Speaker 2 (04:37):
And guess what I've said this. I mean you've heard
me say this. Every day is an adventure. Every day
is the season, and how you play that day is important.
Speaker 4 (04:43):
Yeah, no matter who you play, it was enough today.
Speaker 3 (04:46):
Hopefully it'll be enough against Chicago State next Monday, six
o'clock in Michale Center. But now they stand at seven
and to seven and two with the Chicago State.
Speaker 2 (04:55):
So it was all her plan to get these lower
teams and to see if they could win, get them
used to winning because it's going to be a long road.
Speaker 4 (05:04):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (05:05):
Big twelve opener against Utah on the twenty second.
Speaker 4 (05:09):
For them, yep. Oh wow.
Speaker 3 (05:11):
So you got two more games against Chicago State and
Beller Meane. I'm even sure where that school's from. But
moving forward with the number one team in the country,
the Arizona Wildcats eight and oh rank number one in
the country, travel to Birmingham this Saturday, number twelve Alabama,
seven thirty at night. We'll see what happens there. Have
(05:35):
to play well, and you think they're they're not gonna
come out with the win. It's gonna be the biggest
factory and you're being on the road, just.
Speaker 2 (05:44):
Like Arizona being on the road, that crowd is going
to be crazy good because you have the number one
team coming into town to prove you know, overrated is
going to be said a few times at the end,
and the everyone has to play well again. I mean,
and I think there's no factors for you Alabama to
be well, we're missing our guy. I missed a guy. Yeah,
so there's that. But being on the road, people don't
(06:06):
understand how difficult it is to an on the road,
just as desk Auburn and being number one, that's another target.
I mean, those things are factors. Last time these two
teams played was in Phoenix. At the time, I think
of it called the Mortgage something something, the Phoenix Suns Arena,
probably just Phoenix Arena Arizona one eighty seven to seventy four.
(06:29):
They were ranked number four at the time, but a
different story this time they were number one. Looking at
the NBA, it's the NBA Cup Quarterfinals happening yesterday and today.
The Magic come out with the win against the Miami
Heat won seventeen to want to wait, Nicks beat the
Raptors one seventeen to one oh one. Those two teams
will play, I believe on Friday. So for the title,
(06:50):
for these semifinals to the right to go to the championship,
it'll be the obviously, the Magic and the Knicks. Today
in the Western side of the NBA Cup, Sons face
of thunder Spurs against the Lakers. Go Spurs, those Spurs.
They're better than most people thought, except for you. I
told people to watch out Steve. I keep trying to
(07:10):
tell me. I try to warn people. Paying No, he
won't be He hasn't played in a couple of weeks ago.
Speaker 4 (07:15):
What happened, uh something.
Speaker 3 (07:17):
It's probably like left knee intusion, one of those very worthy.
Speaker 4 (07:22):
The sandwich was overweight.
Speaker 3 (07:25):
Oh, I mean, I hope he eats a sandwich. Skinny guy.
But he's good, very fantastic, and he obviously had that
crazy offseason with Kevin Garnett, the the Monks, learning all that.
Speaker 4 (07:38):
That's what I should do.
Speaker 2 (07:39):
Go to a place where it's quiet and nobody's bothering
you gon to shave your head. Never mind, that's that's
the biggest factor. I'm not a good looking involved man.
I already know it. I'm not a good looking guy
with hair on you see the consistency. I'm not gonna
(07:59):
comment on your hairstyles.
Speaker 4 (08:00):
You need your job.
Speaker 3 (08:03):
Looking at some other college basketball scores from yesterday, what
a wild game between BYU and Clemson. Clemson goes on
I think a twenty two to zero run to in
the half, but then BYU comes back. They stormed back
and hit a game winner. I believe Robert Wright the
number number one the last game when he shot three pointer.
Speaker 4 (08:23):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (08:24):
Nice nice games last night and the Yukon Florida game
for the good game seventy the Houston the Yukon guy read,
I think it was who didn't play against Arizona. Wouldn't
have been a factor in that game with Arizona. Wouldn't
have would he have? He will would have? Yes, I
don't think he would have. Of course he would have.
Speaker 3 (08:40):
Yeah, of course he would have. U But it was
what it was. It was what it was, right, But
they got the win today. There was enough yesterday. Yeah, uh,
seventy seven seventy three once again that fan good game.
He also had obviously Michigan steamrolling again twenty five more
(09:01):
five points or more eighty nine sixty one against Villanova.
Speaker 2 (09:07):
Jay Wright isn't walking through that locker room.
Speaker 3 (09:09):
Nope, I mean he hasn't for a while, so they
got to figure it out. That's still a good team.
Seventy two is only their second loss in the season. Yeah,
they play in a competitive conference. I guess, well, I
don't even know what to make of that conference?
Speaker 2 (09:26):
Do the do?
Speaker 4 (09:26):
I so will move on from that, Johnny.
Speaker 3 (09:29):
As you can tell from the we're gonna move on
to the NFL. It's back in action tomorrow. Falcons and
Buccaneers five point fifteen on Prime Video. Falcons, would you
say they've underachieved this show?
Speaker 2 (09:40):
God, they're the most perplexing team I've ever seen, not
well franchise, because I'm sure there's other, but you don't
know if they're good or not depends on the week.
Speaker 4 (09:49):
You never know.
Speaker 3 (09:50):
Yeah, I think the main thing is that they're missing
their quarterback. Pennix has been in and out all season.
I'm not sure how long. Not a last for Atlanta Ennix, Well,
we'll see.
Speaker 4 (10:04):
He's one of the older quarterbacks, older, older, older, older rookies.
Speaker 3 (10:08):
Yeah, because he spent all his time in college with
Indiana and Washington and obviously had great success. But now
you're giving yourself a shorter timeline for your professional career.
Speaker 4 (10:21):
Okay, yep, thanks for that one. Yep.
Speaker 3 (10:25):
Speaking of older rookies, let's talk about older veteran coming back,
Philip Rivers.
Speaker 4 (10:30):
Yeah, he's excited.
Speaker 2 (10:31):
He's like forty twoish, uh, forty twoish, maybe older, forty
four older, Yeah, forty four. Colts need help, Colts need
a lot of help. So he's gonna come back and
maybe even start.
Speaker 3 (10:45):
Yes, forty forty four years old. Right now, it's up
between him and Riley Leonard. It looks like Riley Leonard's
on track to play for Indianapolis, but if worst comes
to worse again, they're going to be turning to the
forty four year old.
Speaker 4 (11:08):
Depends what they what teamo on.
Speaker 3 (11:12):
Buccaneers have activated wide receivers Mike Evans and Jalen McMillan
from ir So the Buccaneers are getting a little bit
reloaded at the wide receiver spot. They're clinging to that
NFC South Panthers right behind them. Tac might make the
playoffs year. It's yeah, it's they're doing well. I mean
they're doing okay. NFL season has been pretty good. Yeah,
there's a lot of surprise Denver team New England, New England. Yeah,
(11:36):
Elie Rams anybody outside of those, I don't know. Let's
see big news. Biggest news from college football today. Michigan
has fired sharn More for inappropriate relations with the staff member.
Speaker 2 (11:51):
I do not have sticks with that woman.
Speaker 4 (11:54):
You know where that comes from.
Speaker 3 (11:55):
Yeah, but there is incredible evidence for the situation which
led to his termination.
Speaker 2 (12:02):
Yeah, he was, he was, uh, he was up against it.
Speaker 3 (12:06):
Yeah, it kind of like Brennan here. Obviously, bigger expectations
in Michigan. Yeah, you don't want to follow the guy. No, well,
you want to follow the guy, but you better hope
you do well because he did well.
Speaker 4 (12:19):
He did Okay eight and three, eighteen and eight. I
think it was Taylor, I believe so.
Speaker 2 (12:26):
Yeah, it's that's a tough spot and that Michigan that's
not acceptable. Whether they do an investigation on inappropriate activities.
Speaker 3 (12:35):
Some of the early names. Yeah, tell me Marcus Freeman game, Okay,
would you go? I don't know if I I know.
I think he's pretty well likedriver in that Notre Dame, So.
Speaker 4 (12:46):
Just give it to the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (12:48):
Yeah, Jesse Mintor does he mentor?
Speaker 4 (12:51):
Where's yet?
Speaker 3 (12:53):
I'm not sure this doesn't really say, oh, the Chargers
defensive corny, I guess all right, Uh, Jedary Fish, Jedfish,
jed Rey Fish, Jed something fishy out here.
Speaker 2 (13:07):
Yeah, that's not that's not a shock. Of course, he's
gonna be on every buddy's list.
Speaker 4 (13:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (13:12):
Uh and uh, Brian Kelly, possibly, I wouldn't.
Speaker 4 (13:15):
Right, No, well what about uh the former?
Speaker 2 (13:18):
No, No, I was gonna say Chip Kelly, but no
one wants to Chip Kelly.
Speaker 3 (13:23):
That's what I see is Kaitlin de boor hmmm mmmm.
That would set up some dominoes, very big dominoes. Again,
I'm not sure if I would take that if I
was him. No, No, you have a decent situation at Alabama. Yeah,
obviously obviously, like they're coming off a decade of ten
(13:45):
wins or more. Then they just finished nine and three,
I believe.
Speaker 4 (13:48):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (13:49):
So, well, you don't want to follow that guy either.
You don't want to follow saving No, because absolutely not.
But no, he's doing it. Good luck, good luck with that.
Speaker 3 (14:00):
Uh and just looking again ahead to the college football playoffs,
which will happen in two weekends from now. James Madison
going to Eugene and facing Oregon two weekends. I guess
next weekend, right, ye, Alabama goes to Norman. That's the rematch. Uh,
Oklahoma won in Tuscaloosa this year. We'll see what happens
in Norman, another rematch. All Miss and tu Lane All
Miss blew out the Green Wave earlier this season.
Speaker 4 (14:22):
Now they have no lane Kiff, no lane train.
Speaker 3 (14:26):
Uh, so we'll see what happens that that could be
possibly something or not possibly. Maybe maybe Arizona will go
lighting for maybe Tulane will upset All Miss.
Speaker 4 (14:40):
Yeah, that ain't happening.
Speaker 3 (14:42):
And then Texas A and M Miami probably best game.
Speaker 4 (14:46):
I think Texas A and M is gonna be. But
what do I know?
Speaker 3 (14:50):
So there is there any chance for James Madison?
Speaker 4 (14:55):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (14:56):
Yeah, They get the bus there and time and get
off the bus.
Speaker 4 (15:00):
That's what makes the wrong turns.
Speaker 2 (15:01):
There's the Jets Oregon Beetle obviously big time, like twelve
and a half points, isn't it.
Speaker 3 (15:07):
I believe it's twenty one and oh never mind and
a half exic no. And then of course you have
the first ball games of the season this Saturday, South
Carolina State, Prayer, View A, and M. I know you're
waiting for them. All over that one, but then Washington
or Boise State and Washington in the LA Bowl five
(15:28):
o'clock ABC, Jetfish Jetfish.
Speaker 4 (15:30):
See if you can pull it off again? Okay, we
gotta go.

Speaker 4 (20:34):
How you doing holding, I'm doing great.
Speaker 5 (20:36):
Thanks for happening.
Speaker 4 (20:37):
Did it burn down after that game?
Speaker 5 (20:42):
You know? Yeah, well, you know, I'm not gonna go
that far, but I would say that was a very
very disappointing performance by if it may issue to say
the least. I mean, you know, I was on a
showed in that game why they were having a very
race scessful season to begin with. I was definitely impressed,
(21:03):
uh you know, seeing him in person, Uh, you know,
for the first time, I could also understand why they
were having a season that probably defeated a lot of expectations,
uh you know, probably outside of two son and nothing
nothing so much into Son and I was very very impressed,
especially impress I went with you with the defense, you know,
Danni Goes also somebody that I know very very well,
(21:23):
and kudos to him for really uh it seems like
overnight just turning that defense on the dime and being
one of the best uh you know units in the
entire Big Twelve, especially against the past.
Speaker 2 (21:35):
I was gonna ask you, let's see, uh you said
so said, I was gonna say, oh, did they Well,
what what happened that to created the situation for the issue?
Was it the quarterback just being hurt and that was
the biggest factor.
Speaker 12 (21:52):
I mean, you're.
Speaker 5 (21:53):
Definitely point to that. Uh you know, points also obviously
to the injury of from from the proide receiver, Jordan.
I mean that definitely, you know, did hurt quite a bit.
You know, it's kind of ironic. I mean, the criticism
on Sam Levitt earlier in the year is that he
was honing on Jordan Tyson too much. Now, obviously if
to look at the box score of those games in
the first you know, three four contest, Uh, you know,
(22:16):
those are games where the Levit Tyson connection was off
the tross good and have definitely helped elevate Tyson into
a first round on draft pick next year. But you know,
at the same time, just really presented an offense that
was very, very predictable and wasn't able really to do
a whole lot in the passing game aside from finding Tyson.
(22:38):
The irony here is that the last few games, at
the last few games that Sam led did play for
a when he did play with the broken foot for
for several weeks, those were his best games statistically, and
he was able to get more wide receiver was involved
not named Jordan Tyson. So it's this tragically ironic that
when Sam Load was really hitting a stroke and really
(23:00):
having his best performances of the year, he did have
to ultimately succumb to the injury. And then Jordan Tyson
it really just had his own injury going on. Ben Coleman,
the center, the anchor that offensive line, you know, being
out for the rest of the season midway through the
campaign definitely did not help either. So there really was just,
(23:22):
you know, an injury bug that barely hit them in
twenty twenty four. But it looks like the payback was
in line for twenty twenty five because I don't think
any team in the Big twelve and you just look
up and down, you know that that conference I was
hit by the injury bug as hard as they as
you did, and they just were not able to recover.
Speaker 2 (23:42):
Let me ask you this because why and I have
been talking about this. I don't know if you believe
in the football gods, Hode, but these two programs. These
two programs, it's kind of like prosparity. They just either
can't handle it or the gods just don't like them,
because Okay, we're gonna give you a good season, but
next year we're can screw and you know what, and
it's gonna last maybe a year or two after that.
Speaker 5 (24:05):
Yeah, and so Ryan, you mentioned that, Steve, because that's
what Kenny Dillingham said in the preseason. He said, you know,
we're finding history because you know, Kenny Dillingham obviously born
and raised here in the valley. You know, ASU guy
through and through has seen it so many times and
I think, you know, twenty fifteen is probably the last
time that you saw it that a team was coming in,
(24:26):
an ACU team coming in with just very very lofty
expectations and just not being able to live up to
them for one reason or another. And you know, Grey
disappointed by Kenny Dillingham that he really wanted to defeat
that trend, that the exact trend that you that you're
talking about, Steve, he really wanted to just show, Okay,
now seeing it can be different, and you know, and again, yeah,
(24:48):
you know, you know Coco Colla football guys or or
whatever the case may be. But it seems sometimes you
just really cannot beat history as much as you want
to really conquer that aspect. And like said, you've experienced
last year as your experience it.
Speaker 4 (25:03):
This year, you have no question.
Speaker 3 (25:04):
Obviously for a s U it was a disappointing end
to the season, but overall, if you look at it
as as a whole, a and four is a pretty
dang good year in the eyes of maybe Sun Delineation.
Is it kind of underachieving or kind of met a mark?
What was the season for Sun Dealination?
Speaker 5 (25:24):
Look, I mean, I know people hate hearing, you know,
we'll look at the glass full and a sudden the
glass half full. But I really think to your point, yes,
there's there's a lot to be proud with ASU. How
much adversity that they they were able to overcome. I
think it was very easy for this team, with all
the injuries, with all the adversity, to really you know,
(25:45):
fold their tent and really, uh, you know, have have
a season that was going to be barely about five hundred.
So you definitely give them credit for fighting, you know,
as hard as they could. You know, they still hold
the distinction of being the only team that did beat
Texas Tech this year, there was definitely one of their
final performances. Uh. You know, again when we talk about,
(26:07):
you know, not being able to sustain success, you know,
here comes the next week against against Houston. I'm sure
Houston at the time was playing much better than they
did uh during the month of December, but nonetheless that
they lay an absolute egg against Houston. I mean that,
you know, that game was literally over and over at halftime.
I mean, sure there was a valiant comeback effort by
by a s U, but that just showed you that
(26:30):
it really was the season where it was one step forward,
two step back consistently. Uh. And you know, I think
also the game against U A was probably an example
that you know, here's a SU having a pretty good
decem sorry, pretty good November, and in their last game
against their their in state rival, they lay an absolute
egg at home, no less, just like they get they
(26:52):
did against Houston a month earlier. So you know, again
just you know, you look at it half full, half empty,
it's really kind of the really the out of the beholder.
But but I think even the very very disappointed ASU
fans knew that there was really a chance that a
SU could just just really have their season circle the
(27:12):
drain with all the significant injuries, and that really never happened.
Uh So that's something that maybe maybe you do hang
hang your head on and look. I think that if
it was an eight win season, but that eighth win
was a win against Arizona, maybe that puts somewhat of
a better spin on an eight and four campaign. But uh,
you know, to be to be really uh you know,
(27:34):
outplayed from you know, from from opening kickoff until the
final whistle against you van home, that's something that's not
going to sit well with a lot of ASU fans
and obviously make the eight and four season disappointing despite
everything they have to go through.
Speaker 3 (27:49):
You know, I gotta give credit to the issue fans.
They sold out almost every home game. I'm pretty sure
they did sell out every home game this year. What's
like the main factor into that? Because Arizona they got
better down the stretch, but their fans still kind of
didn't show up.
Speaker 5 (28:05):
Yeah, I mean that was really surprising to me. And
I don't mean to you know, rub Salt and Moon
so to speak over here, but that was still surprising
me that you have a bounced back in a very
impressive fashion fashion from twenty twenty four, and the fan
base there just did not really reward them with good
attendance numbers. That that's really kind of head scratching to me.
And you know, here's asu. Look, I mean, aside from
(28:27):
Texas Tech, they did not really put on a show
in each and every home game, if you want to
be honest, and I'll go all the way back to
the games against ANYU in Texas State. I mean, sure
there were wins, I know, wins by more than a touchdown,
but you know, if you you know, look at the
box score and let alone, you know, watch the whole replay,
you're not really blown away. But I just think that
(28:47):
the excitement around this program really really is genuine. And
obviously you give Kenny Dillingham and his personality, you know,
a lot, a lot of credit. And look, I mean
when the team comes off a big twelve championship year,
you do expect the Wade and Sea crowd just to
be there with their busts in the stands, and that's
exactly what happened. But even down the stretch, you know,
(29:07):
after that disappointing game against Houston and when he kind
of knew that a repeat appearance in the Big twelve
Championship is not going to happen, I mean neither they
are still showing up against against the u A and honestly,
again not to you know, the labor the porn over here,
but I really thought there was gonna be more fans
coming up from Tucson to that game. I mean it was,
you know, it was a nice showing. But I've definitely,
(29:29):
you know, been doing this for twenty six years, I've
seen bigger contingents of fans from Tucson. I'll show up
to the game in tenp and that was really surprising
to me with a great season that UVA was having.
But yeah, I mean I think the fans support the
community support that was definitely there all year. You know,
you hope that without Levitt, without Tyson, the fans are
still going to show up in twenty twenty six. It's
(29:51):
really incumbent on Kenny Dillingham and his staff to put
out a good product because twenty twenty six can be
quite the transitional year for a you But is the
record going to suffer consequently? That's a big, big, big
question here.
Speaker 2 (30:05):
Well, let me throw this at you. How serious were
the other schools? And I'm not sure you would know
this in mentioning him as a possible candidate. And then
now that Michigan's open, I guarantee you we'll hear a
name or two from Dillingham.
Speaker 5 (30:19):
Yeah, I know, I know for a fact that that
that Auburn and that in Florida would would would definitely
in contact with, you know, Kenny Dillingham and in his camp.
You know, some people would say that maybe Kenny Dillingham
use that for you know, leverage, you know, just to
increase the NIL at a s U, which to me
is a shrewd but definitely acceptable maneuver because, not to
(30:42):
overstate the obvious, if you're not going to have a
good NIL purse, you cannot adequately compete in a power conference.
And we're saying, you know what's happening at Texas Tech
now b y U in Utah, you know, and it
seems like there's quite a drop off from whoever is
the fourth sixteen in the Big twelve in terms of
nl NL funds compared to those Big three. So I
(31:06):
think that you know, if that was done, you know,
to to put pressure on the a seotheletic Department the
university as a whole to really increase the NL efforts,
And I personally have no problem with that whatsoever. But yeah,
I really don't think Kenny Dillingham is going anywhere. Is
A is a family man through through and through. He
did divulge a few weeks ago that him and his
(31:28):
wife are expecting their second child. Kenny Dillingham always talks
about sharing a back wall with family members, having his
parents live three cores down.
Speaker 13 (31:39):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (31:40):
And when you mentioned that this seems like every other week,
then it shows that your persona as a family man,
it's not just a facade. It's something that you really
really hold holding near and dear to your heart. Look,
I mean Kenny Dillingham, you know, but from the time
he was a graduate assistant into MP to the time
he became may if he's head coach, he was quite
(32:01):
a journeyman. Memphis, Auburn, Florida State, Oregon. I think there's
a very young head coach. Obviously, he wants to settle
what what he thinks is is a team that the
best place to live in his mind. So I really
don't see him really leaving AC anytime soon. The only
thing that could have really put uh you know, derail
(32:23):
that plan or derail that line of thinking was if
there's going to be lack of support when it comes
to anil, when it comes to the budget of the
football program, and those are issues that seem nobody to
be solved a few weeks ago. Uh So to me
that was going to be the only caveat that may
may have Kenney Dillingham really looking at greener pastures, but
(32:45):
once that aspect has been has been put to bed,
I really think Kenny Dillingham is going to be here
for a while. It doesn't mean the financial commitment doesn't
have to increase every year or every other year, but
as long as that's going to be in place, I
think Kenny Dillingham is going to be closest thing that
has seen since Frank Cush, a coach with a long,
long tenure having a lot of success in the interim.
Speaker 3 (33:07):
Real quick, let's talk about the stumble. What's what's the
analysis on Duke? What's the prediction in the.
Speaker 5 (33:17):
Yeah, I think I think a s u IS is
really going to be that tough spot with the players
that are going to miss the game due to injuries,
the players that are gonna miss the game because they
are declaring for the for the NFL Draft. You know,
I really don't know yet what the situation is with Duke,
you know, and I maybe maybe the folks and then
in Durham don't don't don't know. There's uh, you know themselves,
(33:39):
what's what what what it's really gonna look like from
their perspective. But really, for a s u uh, it
just it just depends how how good this offense can
can play. I mean, obviously Jeff Simms has to shake off,
you know, one hell of a performance even though it's
going to take place over a month from a nightmarish
night against Arizona. You know, how well it can bounce back? Uh,
(34:02):
you know. Now, it's it's a given that the that's
the wide receiver group is not going to have Jordan Tyson. Uh,
the running back group may not have Kyson Brown and
re Lea Brown at at their disposal. So when you have, like,
you know, so many missing pieces on offense, to me,
it's just a big, big enigma. And also special teams.
(34:22):
I mean, you know, it's time for this unit to
really win a game for the Sun devils, and you know,
if they capable of doing that and the defense is
playing at the high level that they played all year long,
I don't think there should be any absences that really
should cripple that side of the ball. You know, you
may have h they may have a chance of winning
this game, but you know, again, I just think it's
(34:44):
really going to be more of the defense and special teams.
They're going to have to carry the load here because
the offense, to me, is just a huge, huge question
mark and again some key players missing for one reason
or another. Uh, is really going to put more pressure
on the AFC offense that they've seen only your loan.
Speaker 4 (35:00):
So we've known each other for a while.
Speaker 2 (35:02):
Now, let me tell you this, if you don't believe
in the gods, any of the sports gods, college gods
are going to make you believe on this because you know,
what he did or what she did depends on.
Speaker 4 (35:11):
What you believe.
Speaker 2 (35:12):
Uh, he took a little sprinkle off the football team
and gave a little sprinkle to Bobby and gave that
team a little spark somehow, because that's not what you
thought would happen early on.
Speaker 4 (35:22):
I don't think I agree.
Speaker 5 (35:24):
I agree see and look, I mean, part of it feels,
you know, weird. Uh, you know, talking in very gowing
in terms about ASU basketball when I'm talking to a
radio station in twoth on the week that you as
number one in the A people. But you know, look,
I mean, you can be the biggest hater of AHU
basketball there and still be very, very impressive without Bobby Hurley,
(35:46):
did you know. I just think that all those cliches
about you know, having good guys on your team and
having good chemistry on and off the court are aspects
that absolutely have caused the ASU to play that the
the way they're playing right now. I'm really really impressed
with with the makeup of this team, with the talent
of this team. Everybody on this team has a big
(36:08):
has a bigger chip on his shoulder than the other. Uh.
They did not get one transfer from a from from
a power power conference team. All of them are mid
mid major mid major transfers. Obviously loves national players. You know,
one of their best bench players, Big Johnson, came from
the n A I A level. It's just really a
great story that we're singing in timp so far with
with Bobby Hurley, who said in the preseason, like I'm
(36:31):
coaching like my back as against the wall. As we know,
Bobby Hurley is in this last year of the contract
of his contract and he needs to prove himself and
then some uh so he can be in timp and
then the next season and seasons after that. And I
think it's just really good, you know, coaching, coaching, uh
with with that mindset and really having those players respond
up you know quite well. Look, I'll be honest, ive
(36:53):
eight and two after ten games is not something that
I had on my being go card when I when
I was looking at the ten games, you know for
the Sun Devils, very challenging games coming up to round
out the non conference last season, as you know, playing
Santa Clara in Vegas. Saint Clara last time I checked.
I think it's at the top forty in the net.
(37:14):
You know that. Then you have a road game at
u C. L A that's definitely not going to be
easy task. And then another former Pac twelve team comes
comes to town in Oregon State. So if as who
can go two and one in that stretch, I think
that you're thinking, okay, maybe maybe as you can really
surprise in the Big twelve but I don't have to
(37:35):
tell you how unforgiving this this conference is. And ASU
last year came in with a lot of momentum and
that didn't do them a whole lot good. But you know,
we'll see if they can really finish non conference with
a strong momentum and really surprise and you know, not
be that last place finisher, like the media did predict
the prediction to be in in the preseason. But again, overall,
(37:56):
I'm very, very impressed with Bobby Hurley and the job
he's done so far. It's definitely being It's definitely one
of the feel good stories and to be without a doubt.
Speaker 2 (38:03):
Hold, we got to go. But I don't leave you with this.
It's not a question sustatement. Nobody wants to see Barbie
succeed more than the fans down here.
Speaker 4 (38:12):
They love him.
Speaker 5 (38:16):
I'm sure I love it is quite genuine too, especially
time for the holidays.

Speaker 2 (42:29):
The frenemies. Yeah, basketball program is doing fairly well. And
I'm not joking about but Bobby Hurley. No, they love
to give him crap here.
Speaker 4 (42:37):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (42:38):
They know that he's going to be mediocre every now
and again, you know, and.
Speaker 4 (42:42):
He gives it back. Oh yeah, gives it back.
Speaker 2 (42:44):
Oh remember were you there when they hit the shot?
Speaker 4 (42:46):
Yeah? Yeah, I was in the zoo.
Speaker 2 (42:48):
And he came back, and he came back and gave
the crowd some grief.
Speaker 3 (42:52):
Yeah, I was I saw it coming when I saw
the I don't remember his name, but the issue guy
who hit the shot, Yeah, he took two dribbles into
a shot more than more than likely that's going to
go in Yeah, if you if you're out of control.
But it was into his run there are two dribbles
and said, yeah, I'm gonna hit this.
Speaker 2 (43:11):
That was almost from the same area that uh, that's
what's his name? Love Love hit against our state. Yeah,
I guess she's going the other way, Yeah, the other way,
that's right. Yeah, and it was more mid court. His
was to the right of the court.
Speaker 4 (43:25):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (43:26):
Yeah, it's fun and and he's a guy that Arizona
loves to hate, so why not keep him around.
Speaker 4 (43:33):
We'll see what happens because.
Speaker 3 (43:34):
There's there's a clear difference between a guy like Kenny
Dillingham and Bobby her No queshty dealing Ham is gonna
be as respectful as he can, but he you know,
he wants to be in Arizona.
Speaker 4 (43:42):
Well didn't we talk about this with you?
Speaker 2 (43:45):
Maybe so that that Brennan and him are the two
most likable coaches Arizona and an issue of that at
the same time.
Speaker 3 (43:53):
Yeah, you know, Arizona fans can't hate Kenny Dillingham and
YU fans can't hate Bret Brennan.
Speaker 2 (43:59):
Right, It's the most respectful rivalry in a while. Yeah,
as far as football with these two teams. Yeah, well basketball,
I'm not sure if Assue fans hate Tommy Lloyd. Yeah,
but Arizona fans hate uh yeah, Bobby her and maybe
some Assue fans as well.
Speaker 4 (44:17):
Well.
Speaker 2 (44:18):
And you've been to an issue basketball. What you did
when when Luke, when Louke was around, they absolutely gave
him grief. And now Luke did was pointed to the
scoreboard and check.
Speaker 4 (44:27):
All he had to do. So it's all Tommy's had
to do for the most part.
Speaker 2 (44:30):
Right, So we'll see what happens. I don't even know
when the first game is.
Speaker 3 (44:35):
I believe it's January fourteenth. Oh really up there here,
I believe that's here. Okay, I believe that'll be fun.
That'll be fun down here. But then I feel like
it's gonna be a late tip off though they are
all anymore, won't be fun.
Speaker 4 (44:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (44:50):
What time.
Speaker 4 (44:52):
On a Wednesday? Did you go to the game? Did
you went to the game on Saturday?
Speaker 5 (44:56):
Right? Ye?
Speaker 2 (44:57):
Did you write? Did you go into the press conference?
I went the best conference I'd like. When did you
get out of there?
Speaker 4 (45:04):
Ten?
Speaker 10 (45:05):
The game?
Speaker 4 (45:05):
About ten?
Speaker 2 (45:06):
Ten? Ten to fifteen? Yeah, maybe round eleven? And then
they sent their coaching there right to talk. Yeah, and
then Tommy comes in afterwards with.
Speaker 3 (45:15):
Tommy wasn't as uh, he didn't drag it out as
long he was. He was in pretty much right after
the Auburn coach and so were the players.
Speaker 4 (45:21):
Because he's usually taking the time. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (45:24):
Well, I mean he probably took the time that he
usually takes. And that's where they put the auto.
Speaker 2 (45:28):
Yeah, right, right, So you're out of there about eleven fifteen, Yeah,
an hour and then did you write.
Speaker 3 (45:34):
Yeah, I was a plate doing the post game. Yeah,
so you're up to about two yeah, pretty much. Yeah,
so people don't talk about that. Oh, you have a
great job, not that you know, we'd do anything else,
but you have a great job. You went to the game, Wow,
did je fun? And then did you go help for
drink afterward? No, of course no, you've got work to do.
Your work starts then then, right, it starts at tip off,
(45:58):
and it goes past tip off. Yeah, it goes to kickoff,
starts to kickoff way and the raindo lay yeah exactly.
There were any lights pretty late. But we wouldn't do
anything else.
Speaker 4 (46:14):
We can just change We.
Speaker 3 (46:15):
Wouldn't change it for the world and it helps when
you're right. Yeah, yeah, when you're when you're the only
one in that sky box that I had him eight
and four.
Speaker 2 (46:23):
Yeah, it feels pretty good. You can live off that
for a while a little bit. Yeah, I'm going to
have to put that on your resume. Let's se if
they get you a job.
Speaker 3 (46:31):
I might have to at this point when when they
say that had it Arizona eight and four?
Speaker 4 (46:37):
Really really wow? Hired. He's got to be pretty intelligent.
Now you you want to be a manager?
Speaker 2 (46:42):
Yeah, there, I was going to say something you uh,
Army's Army looked to be the manager.
Speaker 5 (46:53):
Not that.
Speaker 2 (46:53):
Hey, those are good places. I want them to sponsor me.
So anybody at Arby's, McDonald's.
Speaker 3 (46:58):
Hey two's on Steven Verry here, let me tell you
about man.
Speaker 4 (47:03):
Let me tell you about this Steve vera mil Yeah,
it's the the Meani.
Speaker 2 (47:08):
It's grinch, the grin smell, the green smell, Yeah, Hamburg,
that's funny.
Speaker 3 (47:15):
The greens that's told them the McDonald's menu. Well enough
for that, yes, that, but it's not funny. It's not funny.
Speaker 2 (47:22):
Put that on your funny No, I'm giving getting grief
from my son to say the same stuff.
Speaker 3 (47:27):
You get it in stereo. Uh, real quick, real quick,
before we gotta go. Top ten most searched athletes.
Speaker 2 (47:34):
You asked me this question earlier, and I said, Manny
pact yea only because uh, you know he's a Filipino
and blah blah blah, and they, uh and he's top four, right,
