four A state championship. So that is going to be
one to look out for. And you know, if you
want to root for the Old Pueblo, it's a good
one too.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
Going after they're back to back, right.
Speaker 5 (01:02):
Yeah, with the new coach with Jay Campos following that
up though U of A starts their n C double
a run against South Dakota State today at five thirty
pm in Stanford, California.
Speaker 3 (01:16):
It's gonna be I want to keep your eye on.
Speaker 2 (01:19):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (01:20):
The bowl game should be announced Sunday, I believe for
you of a football nothing updated there. A lot of
people are saying Holiday Bowl.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
But I mean yeah, in fact, Justin just tweeted it's
they're pretty.
Speaker 4 (01:33):
I think I saw that Miam the championship in the Miami game.
Speaker 2 (01:39):
No, no, No, it's for the HOLIDAYMU in Arizona. I
mean that's not as shocked.
Speaker 3 (01:44):
Yeah, people have been. It's been on the radar.
Speaker 2 (01:46):
What are you talking about? It was that one, Okay, okay.
Speaker 4 (01:50):
I think it was tweet. I thought it's in Miami somewhere.
Speaker 2 (01:52):
In the tweet. No, I think everybody wants to Arizona
playing Miami.
Speaker 4 (01:55):
But I think it's I.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
Always SMU kind of strike anybody's fear or whatever.
Speaker 3 (02:02):
I mean, they were in the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (02:03):
Yes, get that first, get that first Bowl win under Brennan,
Get it under your belt and continue to attack it
next year. Get a different Bowl game.
Speaker 2 (02:11):
Keeps pragmatic.
Speaker 4 (02:13):
Girl, have you met me? Do you remember me?
Speaker 2 (02:17):
Betty? Got your name correct? By the way, Mike Maudin
leads twenty one to ten in the second chord.
Speaker 3 (02:25):
Nice wow.
Speaker 5 (02:26):
Shout out to Jay Campus basketball game obviously is the
big story for tomorrow against number twenty Auburn. They are
coming off a I think like a ten or nine
point win against NC State on Wednesday, and Arizona is
obviously coming off that huge win over Norfolk State on Saturday.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
Did you say that sarcastically?
Speaker 3 (02:47):
No, huge in the sense of points. Okay, yeah, thank you, Yeah, yeah,
I got you.
Speaker 2 (02:51):
For the clarification.
Speaker 5 (02:54):
The women's basketball is also going to be an action
this weekend against the University of New Mexico on Sunday
at two pm.
Speaker 3 (03:00):
So if you want to go catch.
Speaker 2 (03:01):
Didn't even did you cover the tell me give her
the mic please real quick?
Speaker 3 (03:06):
About the women's Yeah.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
Yeah, yeah, because I had some questions, did you were
you guys in the press conference as well? Yeah, there
was somebody that asked questions. Was that that wasn't you?
Because it didn't somebody didn't.
Speaker 3 (03:14):
Yeah, we didn't ask any oh, because there was it.
Speaker 4 (03:17):
Was just two older like media.
Speaker 2 (03:19):
Yeah, do you know who we were? I know one
of them, but I didn't know who the other one was,
I know.
Speaker 4 (03:23):
The one that you're thinking of, and I didn't know.
Speaker 3 (03:25):
I've never seen the other one that asked one.
Speaker 2 (03:27):
Question, okay, because it was kind of strange. I'm thinking, yeah,
questions coming from then I realized or remember that you
guys were in the room.
Speaker 4 (03:33):
So none of you guys know, we we really didn't
even have a chance.
Speaker 2 (03:35):
How many of the other there were you about five
or six? Yeah, and we'll talk about that because I
saw you at El tour. You guys have to do stuff. Yeah,
we'll talk about that out here. Okay.
Speaker 3 (03:45):
Uh yeah, Like I said, they will be playing against
New Mexico at two pm.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
Yeah, and we'll talk about They didn't look good. I
mean that's she was pretty upset and they lost the
Southern and it's there's gonna be a lot of learning
to do well.
Speaker 3 (03:57):
I think the thing is because I was working.
Speaker 5 (04:00):
I was working, but like I was just keeping up
with like the score, and I saw they were down
like first quarter. And the thing is, I wasn't surprised
because that's kind of how they've been playing, right.
Speaker 3 (04:08):
You know.
Speaker 5 (04:09):
They kind of start out a little slow and then
kind of started locking down on defense, and then the
offense comes after that, at least.
Speaker 4 (04:14):
Kind of Arizona style play as a whole across a
lot of sports.
Speaker 5 (04:17):
Yeah, exactly exactly, And so yeah, maybe they just dug
themselves too deep of a hole. A big game from
last night Lions against the Cowboys forty four to thirty
in a shootout.
Speaker 2 (04:31):
And all this time I thought that Dallas has momentum.
Speaker 3 (04:34):
No, I thought they did too.
Speaker 4 (04:35):
No, as long as Jerry Jones is the coach, there's
no such thing as momentum, and.
Speaker 2 (04:41):
There's never any such thing because do you know how
I feel about momentum. It doesn't sense.
Speaker 5 (04:45):
Well, I mean, they're coming off a couple of big wins,
you know what I mean. I was like this, I mean,
it was kind of a game until it wasn't.
Speaker 3 (04:52):
Yeah, I mean, that's how it goes.
Speaker 4 (04:53):
That's Dallas. There you go.
Speaker 5 (05:00):
The Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray will be out for
the rest of the season. So people are starting to
speculate about where he will be going in the last year.
Speaker 3 (05:11):
Uh, they just think they're going to move on from him.
Speaker 2 (05:14):
You have to him in my opinion.
Speaker 4 (05:18):
Well, when they signed him to what that big contract
like three or four years ago, Like we all knew
that it was a mistake. He's not an elite quarterback
to get paid that much amount of money.
Speaker 3 (05:28):
That's how it goes.
Speaker 6 (05:29):
Though.
Speaker 5 (05:30):
Oh, big news coming today, actually this morning, I think
it broke. Matt Campbell is going to be heading to
Penn State projected and to be the head coach for
the nitty Lyons.
Speaker 3 (05:43):
They obviously floundered. I think is a good way to
put it on a couple of coaches.
Speaker 2 (05:48):
There's been a lot of funny things and things said
about Penn State.
Speaker 3 (05:52):
Yeah, the cook the cookie crumbles, crumbles, there's a song. Yeahs.
It's been having a bit of a rough one, this
coaching carousel.
Speaker 4 (06:02):
Well, wait a minute, what's worse, UCLA or Penn State
coaching carousel?
Speaker 2 (06:06):
Penn State, State State?
Speaker 3 (06:07):
You CLA got the Jamiga right, Yeah?
Speaker 2 (06:10):
And then guess who went to JMU Florida.
Speaker 3 (06:13):
Yeah, Bill Napier, Billion Napier. This is another interesting one.
Kansas State is declining their bowl game, according to College
Football Alerts. Might be having to do with uh coach
having a new coach. Stuff like that. Big game tonight
for college hoops, though, is going to be Gonzaga and Kentucky.
(06:35):
That's number eleven, number eighteen. It is in.
Speaker 4 (06:41):
Zaga, Spokane, well, Spokane and Kentucky. You're having similar weather
right now with lots of snow and cold weather.
Speaker 2 (06:48):
So either team could from that great.
Speaker 4 (06:52):
I'm not from that side of the mountains. Let's get
that quite clear.
Speaker 2 (06:56):
You're about the guy from the southwest. That northwest is
a big area.
Speaker 4 (07:01):
It is a big area. There's lots of trees. If
there's Steve, lots of trees.
Speaker 5 (07:05):
Is that like a thing like people from one side
of the mountain don't mess with both people from other side.
Speaker 7 (07:08):
Oh yeah.
Speaker 4 (07:09):
Western Washington is very different from Eastern Washington. Western Washington,
green trees, mountain ranges. Eastern Washington is much more like
tow Song, where it's just desert. It's just high desert land.
It gets very very cold, lots of snow. It's truly
two different climates. The mountain ranges, it's the cascades that
split the state pretty much in half. It's night and day.
Speaker 3 (07:32):
Okay, I I never been up there there.
Speaker 4 (07:35):
Now you guys have a g G geography geographic hell,
soon there you go go.
Speaker 3 (07:40):
Uh this was a big, big news for me. World
Cup draw happened today.
Speaker 5 (07:45):
USA is in Group D with Paraguay Australia and they're
waiting for a play in team.
Speaker 4 (07:51):
Did I see that they're going to play Australia in
that first round.
Speaker 3 (07:54):
Yeah, so they're in the group so it's like a
round robin and then they get into knockouts.
Speaker 2 (07:58):
How close are they playing in Phoenix?
Speaker 3 (08:00):
I want to say yes, I know for sure.
Speaker 2 (08:03):
There's six of others.
Speaker 3 (08:04):
How there's a few.
Speaker 5 (08:05):
Well, the thing is, the group stage just spans across
all three countries, so there's gonna be games in Canada,
There's gonna be games in the US, and there's gonna
be games.
Speaker 4 (08:12):
There's supposed to be games at Seattle at the Sounder
Stadium and Lubin Field.
Speaker 3 (08:15):
How much I do know. There's supposed to be a
lot of games in Dallas too.
Speaker 5 (08:18):
Obviously the final is going to be at MetLife, So
you know, hope you're hopefully gets that, Hopefully everyone gets
out of that one healthy oh Man Championship weekend in
college football, best game, best game?
Speaker 3 (08:33):
I mean it's one and two.
Speaker 4 (08:34):
Are we already at the end of college football? I'm sorry?
How did we get here? Because I don't seem to quite.
Speaker 3 (08:40):
Remember August thirty first, all the way down.
Speaker 4 (08:43):
Yeah, I was at Pacific Classic that weekend watching scores
and watching games on my phone as I was taking
videos of horses and whatnots.
Speaker 3 (08:48):
So this this is flown by a week one.
Speaker 5 (08:51):
Everybody says week one shouldn't count, But that's the whole
argument with Notre Dame in Miami because they played.
Speaker 3 (08:55):
In week one.
Speaker 4 (08:56):
So well, we've seen how Notre Dame season started.
Speaker 5 (08:59):
Yeah, yeah, I'd say no. Probably the biggest game has
to be right Ohio State in Indiana. That's it's going
to be a really really good game. Yeah, it's gonna
be excited to see it. Tonight though, Uh, North Texas
and TWU Lane they are going to be playing at
six on ABC.
Speaker 3 (09:15):
That should be a good one.
Speaker 5 (09:15):
At twenty and twenty four in the rankings, and then
not too many good games tonight for college hoops.
Speaker 3 (09:22):
But tomorrow is going to be a good one.
Speaker 5 (09:24):
Perdue in Iowa State and then Michigan State and Duke
to start off the morning, and then Michigan State in Duke.
Speaker 3 (09:30):
Yeah, fantastic. Are they both undefeated? I think I'm pretty sure. Yeah,
it's four and seven in the rankings.
Speaker 5 (09:37):
Rankings wise, and then later in the day it's going
to be Louisville and Indiana. I think that's probably gonna
be a good one. To another couple of ranks games
to the first month. Yeah, and then obvious Illinois Tennessee
fourteen and thirteen that's going to be going on at
six pm.
Speaker 3 (09:51):
And then week Tuesday, Yeah, I think so.
Speaker 5 (09:54):
And then obviously Arizona and Auburn, like I said, is
going to be the nightcap for that one. A couple
of good games obviously in the NFL two Indianapolis and
Jacksonville that has playoff implications.
Speaker 4 (10:06):
Indianapolis is kind of just off y put their foot
in their mouth.
Speaker 3 (10:11):
It means Daniel Jones, I mean, okay, so.
Speaker 4 (10:16):
Yes, storytime, story time. So my last season working with
the UA football team. If you guys remember the Giants
came to Tucson. They used the U of A facilities
and I worked those practices and I met Daniel Jones
and Saquon Barkley and everyone else. Yes, he's a very
cool guy. Kyle Rudolph is cooler, just putting that out there.
(10:37):
Saquon Barkley literally came up to me and he's just like, Hi,
I'm Sekuon. What's your name? And I'm like, I'm I'm
I'm I'm yeah, I know you're Saquon. I'm Delana. What's
nice to meet you. Here's a bottle of water. So yes,
it is Daniel Jones. But he seems to have fit
the mold for Indianapolis much better than he has ever
fit the mold for the Giants.
Speaker 3 (10:56):
So tough giants offense to work with it. Yeah, I agree, I.
Speaker 4 (11:00):
Mean how there's nothing to work there. They signed Russell
Wilson out of desperation and now they've benched him, and.
Speaker 3 (11:05):
Then Jamis I love Jamis though, well you can't, you can't.
Oh Jamis, Woa.
Speaker 2 (11:10):
Thank you.
Speaker 3 (11:11):
I love Jameis Winston.
Speaker 5 (11:14):
The horses are prep for battle Houston and Houston and
Kansas City. I think that's gonna be another good one
Sunday night. Yeah, that's that's it for me.
Speaker 2 (11:25):
Okay, well that's cool. Uh anything else? No, maybe take
a call if you can't. Five to two zero four
one six seventy four forty. We got about three minutes
before we reach out to a commercial and then go
to are Jones Jones.
Speaker 3 (11:38):
We you guys think about the brackets so far on
the CFP.
Speaker 5 (11:41):
I've been thinking about this so much, and I hate
that I'm making a case for Texas, but I think
it's okay. They're out right now they're out, But I
think a case has to be made. I mean, they
have the second best win behind Indiana who and that
win is Indiana beating Oregon and Texas beating.
Speaker 4 (11:58):
Texas A and now well, and Oregon is just playing
differ and football. They breathe a different error compared to
some of the other teams that they play.
Speaker 5 (12:04):
Three Organs are five Texas, Yeah, Oregon is a five. Yes,
three Georgia Georgia four Texas tack. I mean you have
to respect Texas Tech yeeah, respect that question, and you
have to respect Oregon.
Speaker 4 (12:18):
I mean we've seen what Oregon did at you dub
for that game that was that was brutal.
Speaker 2 (12:24):
Not that I think this is going to happen Texas
Tech and by you, I don't think b Y is
going to beat them. But if BYU wins, that throws
a monkey wrench into some things, because why you gets
in I'm sure Texas Tech gets in two, but that
kind of opens up.
Speaker 4 (12:37):
Yeah, but if that allows two big twelve teams to
get in. That makes a huge difference for the conference as.
Speaker 3 (12:43):
Well, without a doubt.
Speaker 2 (12:44):
Yeah, but then what about Duke if they I think a.
Speaker 5 (12:47):
SC champions should get in no matter what or else.
What's the point what's the point of being a power
for a conference?
Speaker 2 (12:52):
Yeah? No, I get I get the winner of that.
But if they kind of throwing wrenches, Yeah, if the
underdogs start to.
Speaker 5 (12:57):
Kind yeah, the underdog has come out tomorrow, it's gonna
be It's gonna be a while one on Sunday for sure.
Speaker 2 (13:01):
Yeah, Okay, I think it's still the best team won
two Ohio STATEIU.
Speaker 3 (13:06):
Oh, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2 (13:06):
I think Georgia to Georgia plays Alabama.
Speaker 3 (13:09):
I think I don't know, they get a chance to
rev prevents on that loss. I will love it.
Speaker 4 (13:13):
I mean, Georgia should beat Alabama. They should beat him,
so he said the first time.
Speaker 2 (13:18):
And they did, didn't they?
Speaker 8 (13:19):
No?
Speaker 3 (13:20):
I think Alabama Gotham didn't they. That's Georgia's loss. They
were just favored by two and a half one and
a half on DraftKings.
Speaker 2 (13:31):
All right, all right, let's go, let's take a break
and come back, and we'll get ahold of the Jones.

Speaker 14 (18:35):
I'm doing pretty well, I selfsee great?
Speaker 2 (18:36):
Thank you you cover a pretty good basketball team out there,
pretty good program. How good are they.
Speaker 11 (18:43):
Good?
Speaker 14 (18:44):
I wouldn't go as far as great, but definitely good.
They've got a lot of work that they need to
do to get to the level of great. But I
like with Stephen Pearls and so far in his brief tenure,
what was the mood.
Speaker 2 (18:56):
Or the surprise or whatever word you want to use
when Bruce stepped down and his son came aboard, Because
I'm sure you know he's one of the better coaches
in the country personality wise and coaching that there had
to be some kind of shock.
Speaker 14 (19:13):
Yeah, I mean I think that there was rumor that
it was going to be happening. I think the timing
of it was more of a surprise than it actually happened.
But definitely a thing that I thought, You're going to
get at least one more gear out of Bruce, one
more season out of them before he decided to hang
up the cliff board. But definitely trust what the decision
(19:33):
was as far as hiring this his son.
Speaker 2 (19:35):
So just real quick, could you tell us who you're with?
And so anybody who wants to google the Auburn sign
they can.
Speaker 11 (19:42):
Yeah.

Absolutely, The War Report Dot com is the website. We're
online as the War Report on YouTube, and we have
a podcast as well called The Auburn Express.
Speaker 2 (19:50):
Okay, and you're mostly a pro Auburn, right, favorable to Auburn?
Speaker 14 (19:56):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (19:56):
Absolutely, yeah, okay, no, yeah, no, great, you know what,
you guys, or at least Auburn's a pretty good team
record wise, and hell, they may be just a few
points away the Houston one of the better teams in
the country. Michigan, who may be the best team in
the country. No slacking there for the losses.
Speaker 14 (20:17):
Yeah, I mean, listen, I would ask both of those games.
That Houston game was one Auburn absolutely had a chance
to win their down the stretch. Loved the grit and
determination that they showed in that game when they were
physically overmatched on the interior. It's going to be similar
to this weekend game coming against Arizona. I don't know
what to say about that Michigan game. That Michigan team
(20:37):
is absolutely a monster of the team. They're going to
give a lot of people fits this year. But hopefully
Auburn learned something from that game and was able to
bounce back and do some better things. They looked through
it versus Saint John's the next night, so I had
to think them bounced back quickly.
Speaker 2 (20:52):
So so I've covered the team since the early nineties,
written a few books about them. I know the program
pretty pretty well covered loot for law Time. What's the
perception of the program out that way about Arizona.
Speaker 14 (21:08):
A basketball fan, then you respect Arizona what they've done
traditionally historically in basketball, and the perception of this year's
team is that they're one of the best teams in
the country, right like they would turn starters that have
experience that are out there, and then they have a
monster group of freshmen that are coming in doing some
great things. So they've done a good job of being
(21:28):
able to put together the piece is necessary to make them.
I think they're probably top five team in the country
by I mean you look at statistics and the rankings.
Of course they bear that out, but you know some
things you'll see the rank Hyland You're like, I'm not
sure if they're that good.
Speaker 2 (21:41):
I think Arizon Yeah, I guess we'll see tomorrow. Because
it's the best non conference game at home for Arizona
this season before they hit the Big twelve. So a
lot of people are looking forward to. It is going
to be a sold out late night game. That's why
you're being able to come in late probably you know
tomorrow's game.
Speaker 14 (22:01):
Yeah, absolutely, I'm flying in tomorrow looking forward to. It
will be my first opportunity to be out there in Tousign,
just in general, but definitely my first chance to get
out to the University of Arizona.
Speaker 2 (22:11):
So the one thing that that obviously they've played the Michigan's,
they played the Houston's, they've played North Carolina State just recently,
they shouldn't be and they probably won't be intimidated coming
into this place.
Speaker 14 (22:24):
Yeah, I mean, it's it's the first true road game
that they're going to have in season, right, They've had
some neutral sites, but it's going to be the first
true road test. So it's going to be interesting to
see how this group of just kind of like a
patchwork quilt of players that came together between the transfer
portal and the freshman class deals with a hostile road environment.
(22:45):
So that's going to be an interesting test. But one
of the things that I've liked about the only returning
player is the hot Pettiford teams to turn up in
those moments, So looking forward to seeing what road to
how it looks like out there tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (22:56):
Right, Well, you've got a couple of transfers in, you know,
because of the you know portal and all that. The
kids who transferred in had a pretty good game last game.
Speaker 14 (23:05):
Yeah, so the couple of guys, both of the transfers
that had big games last game. You had Keyshawn Hall
who was out there. He's been the leading scorer for
the team this year, and he was the leading scorer
in the Big twelve last season. And then you had
transfer over from Texas Tech, Kevin Overton also had a
really big seam for over in the last game. So
(23:26):
those guys, you know, Hall has been a little bit
more consistent. Overton's been up and down, but he's been
on an upward trajectory of these last couple of games.
So hopefully that'll translate and continue to carry over into
this next contest.
Speaker 2 (23:37):
Who else who else should be you know looked at?
Speaker 14 (23:42):
I mean, of course I mentioned to Hotpedifhers that those
are the big three right there, but in terms of
just guys that I think get overlooked but are crucial
to the way in which Auburn both defends and operates
on the offensive. Then you have to look at Keshawn
Murphy the center there. He is a guy who is
kind of it's like a glue guy for that first
(24:02):
unit out there. He's improved his ability to step out
and shoot the basketball, and he's crafty around the rim,
and he kind of anchors the defense a little bit.
He's not really like a shot blocker, but he's a
good communicator and really Auburn a team lacking size, he's
he's important to making sure that they can continue to
compete on the interior.
Speaker 2 (24:21):
Yeah, yeah, no question. What are your thoughts about and
maybe the previews that you did about Arizona maybe a
specific player or two.
Speaker 14 (24:30):
Uh, I mean nobody gets specific. Let me have to
pull up my notes here, leave you score for the team.
I was looking at some of the film and forgive
me the names escaping me, but that guy is he's
a monster out there three levels for is able to
attack in a lot of different ways. Despite the fact
that you know he's probably I don't think he'sh's enough
(24:51):
recognition around the country for what he's able to do.
Hold on and pull up one of those.
Speaker 2 (24:56):
Here, Jim Brady, But You've talked about the guard jayd
and Bradley.
Speaker 9 (25:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 14 (25:01):
So Bradley was the transfer over from Alabama, right no, yeah, right, yeah,
so the five start coming out of high school again
a three level score. He's not like the greatest three
point shooter, but it's his outside shots come a long way.
I remember his freshman year when he was at Alabama.
That was one of the reasons why he couldn't get
a lot of minutes. But the thing that I think
that Bradley does the best for that team is he's
(25:24):
able to lock up on the exterior, like he is
a guy who can actually eat. He can spearhead the
defense a little bit, and he's a He's a ferocious
downhill driver, finishes well around the rim inside with the trees.
Speaker 1 (25:35):
Uh.
Speaker 14 (25:35):
So I like Bradley's game a lot. I liked him
a lot coming out of high school. But he's definitely
one that I love.
Speaker 4 (25:40):
On that team.
Speaker 2 (25:41):
Yeah, yeah, no question. Uh And do they have a
big time center you go Auburn to maybe uh come
back to Arizona's perimeter with with creevi Us.
Speaker 14 (25:51):
Yeah, that's the biggest thing. Auburn's not a size is
you know Arizona I think I looked at statistically as
like the eighth biggest team in the country as far
as size it can Auburn is not like they're a
small ball team this year. You're gonna have a bunch
of six four to six seven guys that they're rolling
out there. So that's gonna be and that has been
the biggest issue in some of these games. It's just
Auburn has the size deficits. So they're going to try
(26:13):
to push the tempo, play a lot of five out basketball,
and hopefully be able to knock down the outside shot.
Of outside shots not falling for Auburn, then this team's
gonna have to force turnovers to be able to be effective.
And Arizona hasn't been a team that's fallen prey to
a ton of turnovers this year. You know, they have
had some trouble, but like it's not one of those
things where you're just like, hey, you can capitalize here.
(26:35):
So that's going to be a struggle for Auburn for sure,
trying to figure out how to guard on the interior
and be competitive on the blast.
Speaker 2 (26:42):
Yeah, well you talked about the big guys. Arizona's front
court is pretty obviously form, but well, given a walka
crebus copete, it's going to be tough if you're what
six five sixty seven with you guys. And last game
Arizona was very good with the with the inside game
because the other team in Norfolk didn't have anybody tall
(27:03):
enough to defend.
Speaker 14 (27:05):
Yeah, he is the other guy that I was looking
at that. I feel like it's kind of just a
kind of an underrated player nationally. I won't say underrated,
but maybe like the national media is not talking enough
about him. I like what he brings to the table
in terms of just the physicality on the interior, and
he's going to be somebody who's Auburn's gonna have to
figure out how to compete with. I like what Auburn
(27:28):
has in terms of guys like Sebastian Williams Adams and
their effort. But you know, he's a six seven to
six eight guy, right, He's not going to have the
same kind of hype links but he gives a good
effort on the interior. But that's going to be a
struggle for Auburn for sure.
Speaker 2 (27:40):
Yeah, you cover football as well, yes, So how's that
these are two different type of successes.
Speaker 14 (27:49):
Right, Yeah, it's been less than formidable the last few seasons.
Of course, he just went through the transition. New co
Alex Golis just hired recently, and trying to figure out
what the next phase of Auburn football is going to
look like, and you know, transfer portal windows coming up,
(28:09):
so trying to keep a lot of that talent in
house that may be looking to jump ship or get
posted by some of these schools out here looking to
get some of the Now listen, you Freeze did an
absolutely immaculate job of compiling talent to the planes with
the transfer portal and the high school classes, but they've
got to figure out how to keep some of that
talent there so that Nolis isn't starting completely over.
Speaker 2 (28:30):
How would you, I know, you're mostly a pro Auburn group,
So how would you describe the fan base? Because here
in basketball it's rabid, it's you know what it is.
Football is kind of like laissez fair. You know, show
us what you got and we might show up. And
I know what proburbn football is like that, and now
basketball is probably like that. But how would you describe
the fan base?
Speaker 14 (28:51):
So they love their Auburn sports and they show up
in droves. They pack out the arenas and stadiums every
single season, and that the fan base that's kind of
hungry for a little bit more success, particularly on the gridiron.
They've had some you know Final four last year, you know,
made the tournament the two years prior to that. But
looking to put some more championships down right, the SEC
(29:13):
champion of the regular season last season, the tournament champion
the year before that. But they want to figure out
how to get all the way to the to the
dance and hang another banner for a national championship for
the first ben, I should say for Alburn basketball and
national championship in that regard.
Speaker 2 (29:28):
Yeah, and Bruce and Bruce brought that. I mean Bruce
brought changed the program because we all know his success
all over the place.
Speaker 14 (29:36):
Yeah, Bruce Burl absolutely changed the expectation and the culture
of Auburn basketball. It was it was one of those
things where you have pride in your ability to show up,
but no one was fearing whether or not you would
come into their town or you weren't worried about going
to play against that team. Has completely different. Now you
step inside of Neville Arena, you know you're going to
get a battle when Auburn comes on the road to
(29:56):
your arena. You know you're going to get a you know,
a top twenty caliber team that's going to be coming
to your place to play basketball.
Speaker 2 (30:04):
Has his son got into this personality because part of
his stick is his personality And obviously he's a good
coach because this doesn't happen by accident. But does that
fall far from the tree.
Speaker 14 (30:17):
I said this early on in his tenure when I
was watching them coach the first couple of games. A
lot of activity on the sidelines, just like his dad,
probably a little less chirping at the rest and more
chirping at his own guys as far as trying to
get them motivated in the right direction when they're not
doing things that they need to do. But he is
absolutely just as fiery as his father is, but he
(30:39):
gives a little bit more of a youthful flare to it.
And he's definitely just as honest as Bruce Brow ever
was in the media about where he feels like his
team is. So you love to hear the candid nature
that he brings. But yeah, he's got his dad's fire
for sure.
Speaker 2 (30:53):
Yeah, I was gonna ask you just about because we've
all seen Bruce for a long time. He did really
well in Wisconsin, Green Bay was right, other places, Tennessee
and all wherever he's been the what's his secret sauce
other than his personality, And that's for probably the media
and for the TVs. But he's got something that's done
really well in college of basketball.
Speaker 14 (31:16):
Yeah, finding players that fit the way in which he
wants his teams to play.
Speaker 6 (31:23):
Right.
Speaker 14 (31:23):
That's one of the things I love about the coaches.
You know, a guy like Kelvin Stampson, right, Like, every
year in and year out, they recruit players that are
going to play their style of back. Whether they're the
you know, Donald's all American, doesn't matter, right, Like, that's
just what they're looking at there. What's the play style?
Do they fit? Are they going to give me effort
(31:44):
and energy the way that we want to play basketball?
And if they do, we'll figure out how to teach
him how to win. And that's the thing that he's
done the best is finding fits for the types of
basketball that he wants to play so he can just
continue to crank out his system.
Speaker 2 (31:57):
And I'm sure he left that team for his son
the same way. I saw him on the sidelines two
days ago whenever they played. Do you think he's kind
of consulting or helping or.
Speaker 14 (32:06):
Do you know, is Bruce helping out? I mean, you know,
he was there throughout the entirety of summer workouts with
this team. So he probably still I mean not probably,
he still has the level of investment. I don't know
how much he's involved in the day to day grind like, honestly,
And this is one of the reasons why I think
if you are a knowledgeable Auburn fan, you weren't too
(32:27):
surprised they were going in the direction of Stephen Pearl.
Steven's been doing a lot of that worked himself in
the last few years. Anyway. A lot of his scouts
were Steven Pearl's. He was coordinating a lot of what
they were doing defensively as far as making sure that
they understood what the scout was. And that's so it
really is just kind of handing the clipboard over to
somebody who he had pretty much done a lot of
(32:48):
the delegation to in advance. Anyway, Now, game day coaching
decisions as far as when we're gonna call timeouts the
pattern of substitutions, those sorts of things. That was Bruce
Pearl all day working the reference. He's trying to make
sure you're getting the calls that you want to Bruce
Pearl all day. Those are the things that Steven Pearl's
got to figure out, like how does he stem the
tide when momentum is going in the opposite direction, When
(33:10):
do I call this time out? When do I stub
this player out? Those are the things he's going to
have to figure out because he hasn't made those calls.
But as far as the prep stuff, he's been he's
been ready.
Speaker 2 (33:18):
For that for a while. Yeah. Okay, so here comes
the moment of truth. Have you make predictions on each game?
Speaker 1 (33:27):
And yet?
Speaker 14 (33:28):
But I will say I do expect Arizona to win.
Speaker 2 (33:30):
Oh okay, okay, I was gonna say, because if you did,
I wanted to see how you did against the Houston game,
the Michigan game. Win now this game.
Speaker 11 (33:36):
So yes.
Speaker 14 (33:38):
And I rarely give score predictions just because it's early
in the season and it's just too tough to say, Okay,
this is what I think this team is going to do.
But I did think that that Houston game was going
to be close. I thought that Michigan would probably win
by double digits in that game, and I was very
spot on with that one, and I think that this
one's going to be under double digits. But I do
(33:59):
expect Arizona to come away with the win, just because
I don't know that this offering team's ready to get
that kind of win in a true road test yet.
Speaker 2 (34:07):
Okay, well, you just made a lot of Arizona fans happy.
If it's true.
Speaker 14 (34:13):
See I said, I expect him to compete, though, I
don't think it's going to be a blowout, but I
do think that this is the kind of game that
they have to learn how to win. I'm just not
really sure I they're ready to take that step into
the win column yet, but we'll find out tomorrow night.
Speaker 2 (34:25):
Okay, Well, enjoy the the area here when you're here,
and good luck, Thank you.
Speaker 14 (34:30):
I appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (34:31):

Speaker 3 (38:21):
I feel great?
Speaker 2 (38:22):
Okay for asking and Ray of course, do you guys
feel better about tomorrow's game than you were before? With discussions?
I think that I still think that it was as
gonna be them probably more yeah, more seventy something like that.
Speaker 4 (38:39):
We're still not convinced that it's going to be double digits.
But Arizona has a tendency of playing to their competition
and not putting them away when they're supposed to. That's
that's been their ms since Tommy's been the coach.
Speaker 2 (38:49):
And we know that it's funny because they've been favored
by thirty five, thirty five and whatever, and they barely
put on the that j dooza line and it's always
right there a basket or two and then people already
leaving happy yeah, or they're not leaving happy.
Speaker 4 (39:06):
Yeah. So I'm not convinced it's going to be by
double jijits. I could be wrong. Somebody could pop off
and have a great night. But if they choose, if
they don't play two complete halves worth of basketball, and
if they play down to their competition, they will get in.
Speaker 2 (39:20):
A scoring well given you know, during the horse racing business,
and I love the horses racing business, I read the form.
If you read the form of the Auburn basketball team,
it's a pretty good form.
Speaker 4 (39:31):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (39:32):
That they've played against the class of the of the league,
and they've lost a couple of games, but they were
in the class.
Speaker 6 (39:38):
Of the league.
Speaker 4 (39:39):
I mean, Houston is a team that Arizona has struggled
with the last couple of years. So the fact that
you know, Auburn has tried to hang in there with
you sin says a lot about where they stand up
against Arizona. We heard say that Michigan is breathing a
different air right now. They are on a different level
than most basketball teams. So I mean that's also they're
probably looking at be in a one seed right now.
If you were to make the bracket day and snowy tournament.
Speaker 2 (40:02):
That said Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Duke, Duke Arizona.
Speaker 4 (40:07):
And I think Arizona's going to have to win tomorrow
and a couple other very key days to get that one.
Speaker 2 (40:13):
I don't disagree with you. In fact, I still kind
of not sold yet because and let me, everybody thinks
I'm mister poopo, and I'll verify it here. The Florida
game was is kind of questionable, even though they played
Duke fairly well at Duke, you know, that's kind of
give the same use, isn't the ucle that we thought
they might be right?
Speaker 4 (40:34):
But they played the competition that they and they let
them stick around a lot longer than they should have,
which is what makes them a subpar tournament team. Is
they don't know how to play multiple days back to back.
They don't seem to be able to turn Historically, historically
recently within the Tommy Lloyd era, if you will, it's
(40:54):
been hard to get past the Sweet sixteen in the
Elite eight because they can't seem to put those multiple
games back to back. They are used to having one
great game and they ride that high to the next game.
They don't seem to have that mental switch to be
able to turn around twenty four hours later and play
another game.
Speaker 2 (41:12):
Doug texting you or Eat tweeting you, and that's what he.
Speaker 4 (41:15):
Says, Well, you know, I spent like eighteen days with him,
Maybe maybe I would know.
Speaker 2 (41:20):
But you're right. I mean, until you do it, you
can't have done it. Yeah, that sounds silly.
Speaker 4 (41:25):
While they're a good conference team, I still don't truly
believe that Tommy is a great tournament coach.
Speaker 2 (41:32):
Well until he proves that, until he.
Speaker 4 (41:34):
Comes away with an NZAA tournament championship. I will stand
by what I say.
Speaker 2 (41:40):
Get to the final four first. When you ask you
for a long he can.
Speaker 4 (41:43):
Get past the Elite eight, yeah, because he hasn't been
able to make it.
Speaker 2 (41:47):
Enthusiasm girl, it's a fair point.
Speaker 3 (41:49):
I mean you think about the tournament last year too.
They lost to Providence.
Speaker 5 (41:53):
No in the tournament, yeah no, not in the tournament,
no no, no, the Thanksgiving tournament, that battle for Atlanta's.
Speaker 3 (42:00):
Okay, they had a bad had a bad tournament.
Speaker 2 (42:01):
Oh yeah yeah. Blastter was kind of annamoration. They played
played poorly early and then they came on late. Right,
But to that point two years ago was Clemson. They
were a higher seed than that. Duke is probably the
best team they played outside of and they were a
higher seed when they lost to Houston, So they've been
the better he seemed to be the better team each other.
Speaker 4 (42:20):
They have struggled with Houston a long time. Houston is
a team that we have talked about this in the past.
They are a big, physical team and they have Arizona's number.
They know that they can shove them around, push them down,
and Arizona's not going to fight him back. They don't
have that physical toughness that goes along with the game
for them to keep up with.
Speaker 2 (42:37):
You say, I do think though, that they're built for that.
This year the CoA CoA waka creeve us to a point,
you know what I'm saying, even even del Orso, even
though he's gained weight, I don't. And we talked about
this with you can you teach toughness either you got
it or you don't. And I say, you can't teach
it because either you're tough or you're not tough. Walk
(43:00):
is tough. I think Previous can handle himself underneath. CoA
is of course big in the strong Bradley tough dude
in a mental and physical type of way. So I
think this year, finally they have that we have.
Speaker 4 (43:14):
Reached that level. Okay, yeah, yeah, I have not been
able to watch enough of those games to make that
determination where that makes me feel better.
Speaker 2 (43:20):
But that's a different level. You're talking Houston tough. Yeah,
you know, you get into.
Speaker 4 (43:24):
A brawl, you get above the Arizona tough that we
have seen in recent years.
Speaker 2 (43:28):
And I don't know how Auburn plays, but if they
handled or were able to play closely to Houston, that
might show that they if they can handle that toughness too.
Speaker 14 (43:38):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (43:38):
See well and if they play to that level with
Houston of the physical toughness, Arizona will struggle and we
will see that early, very quickly. If that is the case.
If Auburn backs off and Arizona plays more zone to
their own style and they get to run the game
the way they want to run the game, they're going
to not have a problem.
Speaker 2 (43:58):
Well, fat the fact that they're not big helps Arizona
because you know what they're gonna do.
Speaker 3 (44:02):
That's what I noticed previous inside all day.
Speaker 2 (44:05):
Goa go, goa waka, walka waka. And then Bradley comes
in and saves him. If he needs to.
Speaker 4 (44:11):
Say series, just be making them foul shots. Don't be
missing the freebies. You cannot be missing a shot.
Speaker 2 (44:17):
Its like one said, I that's that's one's big concerned. Yeah,
mine's a three point shot because they're not taking very
many shots because they know they're not very good three
point You.
Speaker 4 (44:26):
Should be shooting at least forty percent behind the three
point line and eighty percent from the free throw line
a lot. It shouldn't be asking for a lot. These
guys are getting paid to do it. So you got
shooting coaches, You've got one of the top teams in
the league right now. There is no reason that your
shooting should be that bad. In the toilet.
Speaker 3 (44:47):
Sorry, yeah, it's fair. I mean, I don't know. I
was always bad basketball.
Speaker 4 (44:51):
Player, so I mean as someone who struggled with a
three point shot herself, Like, I was not a three
point shooter at one point, believe it or not. I
played a five, was the big inside. I threw elbows,
rested on the gown. I had a rule that if
I was not black and blue on my knees after
a basketball game, I did not hit the court hard
enough or often enough. Okay, and so you take you take.
(45:15):
It got so bad one day my mom made me
start wearing knee pads because I was so black and blue.
But I mean, it's one of those things if you
can feed the bigs inside and you can get the
shot off, don't put it on the ground, turn and
get it up and you take the foul. Go take
the freebies from the line. Don't worry about the three
point shot. Go take the freebies.
Speaker 2 (45:31):
And that's what his philosophy has been with this group.
Get to the line, be attacking. He's going to give
up the three. Get But however, if Auburn hits threes,
like you said, at three, shooting the ball them, you
have to make a lot of two's.
Speaker 4 (45:47):
You got to play a lot of catchups. But if
the defense is there and they have to take bad
three shots or low percentage three shots, because you're getting
to them at Auburn, because the Arizona defense is getting
to Auburn and time they're making them have to make
more passes before they get their shot. You can then
have the shot clock on your side. You can then
(46:08):
have your fast breaks on your side. And we know
Arizona thrives on their fast break offense.
Speaker 2 (46:14):
You don't like that word. If I if nuts and
blah blah blah blah, Merry Christmas. I mean, if if this,
if that d yeah, if that defense, if they hit
if IF.
Speaker 4 (46:26):
But we're early enough in the season, IFS are still okay,
we can still work through the IFFs right now. Now,
if we get to February, maybe end of January and
we're still talking IFS, we've got a much bigger problem,
right and we've done that. Yeah, we've had that conversation before.
Speaker 2 (46:44):
IF this IF that, you know, because it continues. If
it's if it's who you are, guess what it's who
you are?
Speaker 3 (46:52):
I think, I mean, I think a good thing though,
is they found their identity really early.
Speaker 4 (46:56):
Yeah, and they're perfecting at the point they're getting to
your point affect in it. Yes, so and that's that's huge.
Speaker 2 (47:03):
Yeah, and just hit the rethows. Like we said, we'll see.
I think it's gonna be a pretty good game, pretty
good game first one to seventy two ish. If they
like to run, it's gonna be a one hundred and
fifty six points total six points.
Speaker 3 (47:14):
I think they'll get a lot of boards though.
Speaker 2 (47:16):
Yeah, we'll get his. I think everybody's gonna get theirs
what they're supposed to. It's whether they hit shots for forever. Yeah,
and if your.
Speaker 4 (47:24):
Defense if IF IF IF, IF we're playing the game.
Speaker 3 (47:28):
They better end up black and blue or are is
gonna be upset?
Speaker 4 (47:33):
If I can do it, they can do it.
Speaker 2 (47:35):
We got maybe how much time?
Speaker 3 (47:36):
Had got? Three minutes?
Speaker 6 (47:37):
Three?
Speaker 7 (47:37):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (47:37):
We got to go early?
Speaker 6 (47:38):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (47:39):
Seven minute commercial?
Speaker 2 (47:40):
Whoa e time going talk to these people? Okay, I
was gonna take a call, but it's fine. Any predictions,
any predictions for tomorrow, go ahead, mackenzie. What do you got?
Speaker 3 (47:53):
Arizona by five?
Speaker 4 (47:56):
Okay?
Speaker 2 (47:56):
Okay, that's closer that I think.
Speaker 3 (47:58):
Yeah, it's a around there, like I don't know, seventy three,
sixty eight, seventy three, sixty nine.
Speaker 4 (48:03):
The little scoring is okay, d I mean I was
thinking somewhere in like Arizona seventy five, you know, Auburn,
like sixty eight sixty nine seven. Yeah. I think it's
gonna come down to foul shots. I really do, because
if you're getting fouled inside and you're not making those shots,
(48:23):
or you are making these shots, I think it's going
to be an odd score.
Speaker 2 (48:26):
I don't disagree with that. I don't foul shooting. They
have to hit and the Arizona has to shut the
foul from the following very well.
Speaker 4 (48:32):
Now, it's been one of my biggest critiques even in
the cupcake games. I'm just those are those are opportunities
to perfect the game at the hot at the lowest
level and do the bare minimum, and they couldn't do it,
and they were struggling to do it. And so that
is the concern with these high, high quality games that
(48:54):
we get in the mcale Center, which we've talked about,
are rare these days. They've got prime time money spn
you cannot afford to make those same mistakes.
Speaker 2 (49:05):
Oh okay, if anybody cares, I'm going to go with
the eighties eighty four ish eighty four to seventy four
or less Arizona. I think they'll be what's seven and six, Yes,
with a big game next week against Alabama, and that's
going to be a totally different story, totally different story
(49:26):
at Alabama.
Speaker 4 (49:27):
That'll be a game they'll get the they'll get rattled.
Speaker 2 (49:29):
And then they come back against a lower level team
I think, and then they go to San Diego or
play San Diego State in Phoenix.
Speaker 4 (49:34):
Right, but san Diego State I don't expect to be
an easy game either. That's another team that's extremely physical
and has been known to be a larger physical team
as well, So they're they've got they don't have it easy.
What what games people might think are easier, not going
to be easy.
Speaker 2 (49:48):
The fun part is that's getting ready to see if
they're capable of being.
Speaker 4 (49:52):
That tournament team.
Speaker 2 (49:53):
Yeah, deal with absolutely, we're gonna go. Thank you d
for showing up today being in town. Thank you Kensey,
you're getting.
Speaker 6 (49:58):
Better at this.
Speaker 2 (49:59):
Yes again, used to great, great Ray. Thank you for
helping as always on here my Fridays. Everybody enjoy their weekends.
You get the game tomorrow
