Speaker 1 (00:00):
Steve Rivera, he's got his Eye on the ball on
Tucson Sports Station yet Fox Sports fourteen fifth day.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
Hey, welcome back to eying the ball here on Fox
Sports fourteen fifty.

Speaker 3 (00:13):
I'm Steve Rivera. He's Blake Eager, and you're one with
breaking news.

Speaker 1 (00:18):
This is Eye on the Ball, breaking news on Fox
Sports fourteen fifty.

Speaker 4 (00:23):
Happy Wednesday to everyone out there. Here's truly Mihito Lindo,
mister Stunks. You all saw it on Twitter. I have
a bunch of nicknames. I'm more partial to Mihito Lindo.
Speaking of Mehita Lindo, I'm gonna give a special shout
out to my mother. It is her birthday tomorrow, so
happy early birthday to Mama Serrano.

Speaker 2 (00:44):
I know she's listening right now. I told her to
we're not.

Speaker 3 (00:47):
We're not gonna be on tomorrow or Friday because I'm
getting referraled tour.

Speaker 2 (00:52):
Yes.

Speaker 4 (00:52):
She also thinks I'm weird for blowing out of one nose.
So you heard it here and now blow out of
two notes. Yeah, oh that's they see she did. She's
actually listening today, so uh, special birthday shout.

Speaker 2 (01:04):
Out to her.

Speaker 3 (01:05):
Well, Mama's Erano. I am the kid you never had.
I blew out of both those.

Speaker 4 (01:11):
Sure, we're gonna start off with some Arizona Athletics women's
basketball is back in action on Friday six o'clock. NAU
teams off to a three and old start.

Speaker 2 (01:22):
You'll have to say what you just said, but your
mom when you can do it now or later?

Speaker 4 (01:27):
Do it because you just came in. Oh, yes, Blake
Eager had to go to the restroom. Yeah, happy early
birthday to my mother. Oh, happy birthday.

Speaker 2 (01:36):
Yes. And she thinks I'm weird for blowing out of
one nose.

Speaker 4 (01:40):
She thinks you're weird for blowing out of one. She
said two, So we got to change our ways.

Speaker 2 (01:43):
Yeah, I listen, it's weird to blow out of two.
I don't know. It's just strange to me what you learned.
And Steve's like, I've never I told you it's a
weird question. You do it every single day of your life. Sorry,
did I do it out of too? I told you
that one would you get your mom for you for
a birthday?

Speaker 4 (02:01):
I got her flowers and another surprise coming she'll find
out soon.

Speaker 2 (02:05):
That's awesome, Manolo, What do you think you gave him
the title are you gonna take her? Are you gonna
cook dinner for I tried to, but she was feeling
like I don't want food. Poison exactly pretty much. You
please don't make please.

Speaker 5 (02:18):
Don't make it?

Speaker 2 (02:21):
Do we have to eat it?

Speaker 4 (02:25):
Moving moving forward, Arizona Volleyball standing up fourteen and ten,
coming off a tough loss in Tempee Travel two provo
to take on number twenty five b Yu tonight six o'clock.

Speaker 2 (02:36):
Are you still happy with the way playing they're playing? Yes?

Speaker 4 (02:39):
Yeah, I think a issue is the better team overall,
so I think they just need to take care of business.
And right now it seems like they're firmly into the
NCAA tournament.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
Which is awesome. Really would be a step up. Okay, yeah,
that's great.

Speaker 6 (02:52):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (02:52):
Casino dol Soul Stadium will hopefully be packed for this
Saturday's matchup eleven o'clock against the Baylor Bears Senior Day.

Speaker 3 (03:01):
Okay, just that. Do you think that gives them more
because of his senior Day? I haven't done any studies,
but that would be a nice little paper to figure out.

Speaker 2 (03:10):
I think those games. I think it should again, it's
one of those it should. Yeah, I don't think it will.

Speaker 4 (03:17):
Well, if you really look at who's the seniors are
on this team and what they mean to the program,
they should the Tucson should be showing up.

Speaker 2 (03:25):
I totally agree with that. So do you think people
are going to show up?

Speaker 4 (03:28):
No, because we there's numerous reasons to for why an
Arizona fan wouldn't go. It's going to be altur to Tucson.
The traffic is going to be hectic, even though there's
waste to get to the game. It is an eleven
o'clock kickoff, way too early for some people, and it
might be raining.

Speaker 2 (03:48):
So okay, you going if I'm in town? Yeah, oh,
you might go somewhere. I've got a reason. Number four. Reason, Well,
I'm supposed to be writing a story for THEIRS on
office tours and on poor so okay, I actually have
to work.

Speaker 4 (04:02):
Okay, So well, I'm not even trying to discredit that
there's a genuine reason.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
Number four.

Speaker 4 (04:08):
You mean people are going to be leaving early for
Thanksgiving this week? People are are looking ahead?

Speaker 2 (04:13):
Yes, students, student Steve the Route frail tour. How much
disruption does that cause for on the East side? Will
be out there mid morning, you know, mid morning and midday.
There's a lot of how can I say to blow
ups about it? People are concerned, so we will want
everybody to be happy and safe. But we've we've given out
directions or road closures for the last six weeks, continue

(04:36):
to do so. You've done all you can and people
should be used to. It's a day of the disruption.
You'll be fine. Yes, you move on it. And that's
not me saying that. That's no, No, that's me. That's me
saying it. We hope, so Blake is a two zone
in saying it like it's a day of disruption. You'll
be fine. It's a couple of hours of it.

Speaker 4 (04:50):
Of course, the big matchup to night for men's basketball
at number three Yukon ucon will be we without uh
starting guard terrorist reed.

Speaker 2 (04:58):
I believe he's a guard.

Speaker 3 (04:59):
So we said that at the beginning the game, the
beginning of the show, there were four and a half favorites.
It went to six and a half, went to six
and a half. Now it's back to four and a
half for this reason.

Speaker 2 (05:09):
Yes, yeah, that's that's a and the dude's pretty good.

Speaker 4 (05:13):
Yeah he I believe it was about twenty points per
game that I didn't have rebounds, eight blocks per game
or I think on this season.

Speaker 2 (05:20):
Actually, yeah, I hope it's not a game that'd be
kind of crazy if it was averaging eight blocks. Gad. Yeah,
I mean that's a huge, huge situation here. We'll see
what happens, especially for a guard one. Yeah, did you
know are you one of the players that I think
doesn't get mentioned? And maybe it does and I just
don't pay attention JA and Bradley to the hoop with
that long off. I think he at the top part.

(05:46):
You know, Well we were talking about it. I mean,
for I don't want to jump in too much because
we still have more breaking news, but uh, just talking
about Jaden Bradley in the respect that you know he's
creating for himself. The dude has a lot of savvy. Yeah,
and he's that he knows the game. He controls the
game when need when you need to. So very impressive.

Speaker 3 (06:03):
And you know this because you were an athlete a
kind of a big level. Uh you a lot of
it's like IQ basketball. You don't know if you need
to say kind of you can just say big level,
no big a bigkay, Well, big levels of leagues. I
don't okay, got sorry, let's I check. You didn't get there?
You're right, but look, and I'm I'm sure, how did
you have savy? Did you you have to kind of

(06:25):
be streaks.

Speaker 2 (06:26):
Because I didn't throw ninety five ninety seven baseball craft
that's what savvy, crafty whatever, and that's what it has.
And he's a guy that's been in that situation fort
of times. Exactly, go ahead once? Sorry?

Speaker 4 (06:39):
Uh speaking about how which fans might show up to
Saturday's game, I can quote it here and now Mamasrano
will be there in show. Oh that's great, that's awesome.
She did what she wanted to let the people know. Yeah, good,
your mom's a special woman. Yes, me and burritos. But
I never get invited invited for the burritos? What else

(07:01):
would I get invited? Didn't even get me to the
graduation party? Are you talking about dinner? Breakfast for lunch?
Are you just talking about I don't think you were
a dancer. You would have been you would have ended
up dancing.

Speaker 2 (07:10):
Oh dude, wait, which party is I'm hispanic? Maybe of
course I did. Wait which which party? Graduation party? Oh? Yeah?

Speaker 4 (07:17):
Is it the consita ball room. No, it was uh,
I'm forgetting the name. I'm playing on the name. It'll
come back to me. It'll come back to me. ESPN
and the MLB have recent new three year media rights agreement,
so reworking with ESPN, but it also adds NBC and Netflix.

Speaker 2 (07:34):
NBC will be.

Speaker 4 (07:35):
The host of Sunday Night Baseball and the Wildcard Round,
while Netflix will be having the home un derby and
two more additional games.

Speaker 2 (07:43):
I love it, but you know, I mean, twenty seven's
coming up. They got a lot of stuff to work through.
I mean, this is the best position Major League Baseball
has been in a long time, very long time. Hopefully
don't show themselves in the foot, you know, figure out away. Yep.
I brought it up because you're you're on the show today,
so I appreciate it. One, thank you for thinking about me.

Speaker 4 (08:02):
He does he want you to He wants something from
you because he doesn't know. I like talking about basketball
for NBA specifically, so I thought I've been a little
headed at MLB.

Speaker 2 (08:15):
You did this before. Thank you, and I like talking NBA.
I just don't want to talk about off season trades
like Russell Westbrook. The Sacramento when it's during the playoffs
at baseball. I'm sorry, I apologize. You want to talk
about who just got traded in MLB? Is that what
we want to talk about right now? Because you're gonna
be like I can care less? Right? So? Yeah, looking

(08:35):
at some war got traded to Sorry, Angels traded Ward
to Baltimore and they got Grayson Allen back, who's a
left handed pitcher. One I thought you played for the Suns. Yeah,
different Grayson, and that's Grayson Allen and I mean Grayson Rodriguez.
So thank you for correcting me on. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (08:52):
Alan, Looking at some college basketball scores last night, Duke
beat Kansas seventy eight to sixty six. Yeah, and Michigan
thumped Kentucky put it on sixty six. Yeah, And that
that program's kind of spirally the.

Speaker 2 (09:06):
Thing about it.

Speaker 3 (09:07):
He's been very ford or candid with it, and it's
not even being prompted.

Speaker 2 (09:11):
He's just yeah, yeah.

Speaker 3 (09:14):
Then you know, Kentucky they eat their young, they surely
eat their coach too. You know, he just got there
and he was fantastic last year.

Speaker 2 (09:20):
What buyout? I mean, at this point, if I'm a coach,
what okay, fire me. That's the funny thing we talk
about all the time. You have these guys who have
bias in the fifty billions blah blah, frazy and guess what,
they still want to go back and coach. Give me
the money, I'll talk to you later. Let me be
an analyst. Yeah, I'll start my own podcast. You don't
have to pay me anything. I've already paid. I said

(09:41):
that to Josh, I mean, why would you? Why would
you do this? I mean, think about who you just
had on right, You had a Hall of fame coach,
especially for Tucson standards, who's still coaching. I mean, it's
in their blood, that's what they do. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (09:54):
Yeah, Does it reminds you of the situation with Sean
Miller turned in his last couple of years where I
think it was DeAndre Ayton's team where he kind of said,
my coach is not getting to them.

Speaker 2 (10:05):
I don't know where to go from.

Speaker 3 (10:07):
So so I remember that very well because I wrote
a couple of columns about it, and I wrote it.
When I wrote it, he probably saw it, he says,
then he took it back. He took it because he
realized what he was saying, right, And he says, but
guess what, nothing got any better. I mean, they played
a little better, and but nothing got better. You could
tell they just didn't play well together.

Speaker 2 (10:25):
Yeah. Yeah, and that team was loaded with talent yeah yeah, Trier, Hawkins,
us Ristitch Yeah yeah. Too many, too many great chefs
in the room. Not enough cooks and cook burrita like Mama,
or make it burrita like Mama.

Speaker 4 (10:46):
Along with the Arizona Yukon matchups tonight, you also have
Alabama playing Illinois. Yeah, so another ranked match up number eleven.

Speaker 2 (10:54):
It's a great Wednesday night at basketball.

Speaker 4 (10:58):
I love the scheduling right now. Yeah, week in and
week out, you have these great non core even conference
match Here's the.

Speaker 3 (11:03):
Funny thing, because I saw something last night or maybe
this morning about the Mali Classic, which is next week,
and traditionally that's when it all the great game has started,
and they've already started, and it's kind of taking away
from the Mali Classic.

Speaker 2 (11:16):
Arizona's been their next next year. But the teams that
used to be there, yeah, aren't the teams that are
going now. I mean, because it's kind of widered down.
They're all playing now before the actual Malied Classic. No,
you're right, it's completely different circumstances here.

Speaker 4 (11:30):
Yeah, Lebron James returned to action last night for the Lakers.
He had eleven points, twelve assists, three rebounds in thirty minutes.
But he did break the record of most played seasons
in the NBA.

Speaker 2 (11:42):
That's awesome. Is there?

Speaker 4 (11:44):
Is it an actual debate for you between Jordan and wholeheartedly?

Speaker 7 (11:49):
Is it?

Speaker 2 (11:50):
Actually? Yeah? I think Michael Jordan's much better, thank you. Yeah,
I mean, listen to Lebron's a clear second, especially with
longevity in this corner. But is that a call Cinder calling?
I'm just will did he know he's I mean Bill
Russell would be my next after that, But that's just
my own personal opinion. Really. Yeah, that Kobe that's three. Yeah,

(12:15):
I mean, Kobe's in my top four and so rounded
up before. Hey man, I don't want to do math
while talking. He's debates goal forever. No, they could, Yeah,
let's do it. Let's clear the lines. We don't have.
We don't have a lot to hear the guys talking
about that. We might be a favorite. We might be
able to do that because guess who our next guest is?

(12:36):
Who one I know? I know? I feel like I
actually have to go to you. Yeah, you and you
actually really into your time? Or are you? I got
two minutes? Okay?

Speaker 4 (12:46):
Shouldeorge Sanders just said to make his NFL first NFL
start against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Speaker 2 (12:52):
God, how bad are the Raiders? Did you watch your
Game of Money? Yeah? The dude didn't want to watch it.
But I don't even want to tackle the Perkins on
that one at the five yard line said go right,
go ahead, right ahead, go ahead. Yeah, I tell you,
I'm gonna tell you. I'm gonna be honest. Fantasy football
is ruined NFL for me. I hate it. I hate everything.

(13:12):
I hate it. I hate it. I hate fantasy football.
I've never said that. I hate it. I don't want
to play it anymore. I'm done. I don't like you,
and I get it. I don't understand. I look at
my lamps, I go I should be the best team.
Why do you though? Because it's in fun to, you know,
talk crap with your friends before season, and it brings
anytime now that that's just awkward. If I just randomly

(13:33):
text one of them said hey, you suck and they
just ended it. You do that to me? Yeah, but
you deserve it. Uh.

Speaker 4 (13:40):
Falcons quarterback Michael Pennix is out for the season with
an ACL injury. Wide receiver Drake Lennon is also out
for this week. We'll see moving forward how that goes
for him. UH, and then tomorrow back in action the
NFL is Bill's Texans Thursday Night Football Prime Video.

Speaker 2 (13:57):
Who's the best young quarterback right now? Because a bunch
of came out last year? Yeah? Uh, I mean, I listen,
he's hurt now, but Jackson Dart was. I like Jackson Dart,
drink me. Drake May, Yeah, he got a chance to
win the MV. What about your boy who, no enough,
has not had the season he should have had after

(14:18):
last year. I'm not saying that they're not good. Did
iron defense? You're asking me specifically about a player I
didn't know I did this reaction. I was, yeah, they're
ninety two, just like because of their defense is legit.
Thank you for letting me know. Holy Craft, you asked
a question, and then you you argued when we were

(14:39):
both No, I didn't are you just asked the question? Hey,
you don't know how to face I'm pretty angry you
getting fired up? You fired I thought it was just
ready to go. I thought it was a question, sir,
just a question, all right, last.

Speaker 4 (14:55):
Last thing I got before we got to go and
come back to me.

Speaker 2 (14:58):
I guess are you doing self interview? I guess so
that would be great.

Speaker 4 (15:03):
The new College Football Playoff rings came out as you
moves in at number twenty five, Houston number twenty three,
b what you at number eleven?

Speaker 2 (15:12):

Speaker 4 (15:16):
Yeah, so potentially a big time matchup come day after Thanksgiving?

Speaker 2 (15:24):
Yeah? You going to that game?

Speaker 8 (15:26):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (15:26):
I will you?

Speaker 4 (15:28):

with the program next season.

it later, isn't I'm not going to try to do.

Speaker 2 (21:33):
You just showed me a photo of a packed, packed
student section, Yeah, which which is instant imitation me.

Speaker 3 (21:42):
And you know this because you've heard him. Tommy wants that.
Yeah right, he's not about the incredible. He wants that.

Speaker 2 (21:50):
Type of stuff.

Speaker 4 (21:51):
It's an hour before tip off in that student section
is filled to the brim.

Speaker 2 (21:56):
Yeah, and you go to the games. I do. It's
not that. I mean, it's pretty close to being filled.
But I get what. I get what you guys are saying,
like it should be a rabid feeling of the fan
base when it comes especially to the students, because it's
all just taken it down. Yeah, and the rest of
the students too, because he's mentioned that too. He wants
people there early. Two sons like that. Yeah, it's not

(22:19):
an early time. I guess my question would be, you've
got to have things that attract them there early, right,
Why are they getting there in early just to hang out?
It's a big game. Well, you know, to to that point,
there was one plays. When it plays the big games,
it's sometimes it's like that. I would say it's almost
always like that. Houston, who we looked at each other
against I was was I probably both? And it wasn't

(22:40):
that the student section not when not in general one.

Speaker 4 (22:46):
I think it's it's how they get the students into
the game. They wait, They wait till a certain time
to be here. Yes, okay, they wait till a certain
time for safety reasons.

Speaker 2 (22:55):
I get that.

Speaker 4 (22:56):
But it takes forever. Yeah, if you're if you're at
that back of the line, it takes for ever. And
by the time you gets to your seat, are you
basketball we're talking about baba.

Speaker 2 (23:06):
Yeah, but I wanted to make sure because the same
thing probably happens in the football too.

Speaker 4 (23:10):
Kind of okay, it usually just for the season open.
What's what's the deal with basketball? I really don't know.
I know as a student it was all I had
to show up an hour early to the lines to
get the seat that I wanted. Otherwise you're you're in
the back in the dark. And that's its own issue.
Because we've talked about light dark bringing yes, bringing light

(23:30):
back to McHale. It's just it, there's no solution right
now for fans showing up early like they do at Yukon.

Speaker 2 (23:40):
You've been there and he's the incentive.

Speaker 4 (23:42):
The it brought by the Zona Zoo, the the student organization.
It's brought by that because they get out these free stickers,
free t shirts, free lights, and you're you feel like
you're part of the experience.

Speaker 2 (23:55):
They'll do that for every game. Ye yeah, I mean,
just I was gonna make there the counterpoint that Duke
last year was like that though an hour before the game,
like it was nuts so out of conference. Well it's
out of conference game too, right, and it's Duke. Yeah,
And I think you can make the argument that's Arizona
for Yukon, that's a big game for them. Yeah, I agree,
I agree. I don't remember. I don't remember. I'm sure

(24:18):
you guys are right. I remember I was State being
absolutely packed, and Houston was obviously sold out as well,
but I don't remember the atmosphere. It's Houston. But my
my point is now is it's not that way four
minutes into the game. It's it takes while, it takes
a little bit to fill up. Yeah, but that's two songs.
I mean, you experience it, you see it. I do

(24:38):
in events like I do, and there's no true solution.
I've also probably been a problem there. Yeah, yeah, I'm
trying to change, but apparently I can't because I am
who I am. He's listening. The more he does it,
the more you'll know what. Yeah, one little baby steps baby?

(25:03):
Maybe who's our next guest? One? Pretty excited about it?
Anything else more than this basketball game? The line stays
at four and a half. It stayed at four and
a half. I think, just should you what's your three
takeaways for a night? For you? Theyde win.

Speaker 3 (25:16):
They have to shoot the three? Well, uh, not just
one dude, a couple of dudes.

Speaker 4 (25:22):
I think you need to see a better performance from
your your freshman.

Speaker 2 (25:26):
Yeah, aren't you waiting? Well, well, you said freshman Cola specifically.
Everybody's funny what happened to col What happened to co?
That was freshman? He's a freshman, and that's an anomaly.
That thirty point game eighteen is not gonna happen all
the time, say oh, we can't wait. Doesn't work that way, Yeah,
you know, especially in this team game. They do really
good job and moin the ball around all right.

Speaker 3 (25:46):
Third thing, well, I don't know if it's gonna happen
to night, and maybe it should or shouldn't. I don't know,
but Berrieze has to show up one of these days.

Speaker 4 (25:54):
Yes, I was gonna go with uh. I want to
see how they handle a diversity. Yes, you can do
it in LA. It's a little bit different because one.

Speaker 2 (26:04):
In Vegas.

Speaker 6 (26:06):
Crowd.

Speaker 4 (26:06):
In l A and Vegas, you feel a little bit
more at home. Yes it's neutral, but you feel more
at home. So this this is the first true road
test for those teams this year.

Speaker 3 (26:19):
I have to commend Tommy though, for doing this stuff
because Sean didn't do this stuff. And it's looke because
I traveled with the team for a long time and
it was it was fun to go to these games
winna lose because you knew they were gonna it's gonna
be crazy.

Speaker 2 (26:35):
I think everything sets you up for a You can
make the argument the toughest conference to play in, right,
Big twelve from a physicality standpoint, especially, but also when
you get into tournament time, you've been in the atmosphere
before these fields. I mean u C l A was
a tournament feel like it was a it was a
tournament game on the court at least, right I thought
Florida was a tournament feel Yukon is going to be

(26:57):
a tournament feel it just it gets you more exposed
to it. And and those butterflies, you're able to control them.
They don't go away, but you're able to control them. Sure,
at least you've been there. Yeah, been there, done that,
and there you said, Yukon is gonna be without their guy.
Well at he's one good guy. Yeah, Terris Reid and
Braylan Mullins.

Speaker 3 (27:18):
So one of the things that I'm looking forward to see,
you know, just even baby steps that you know, if
you change. Crevus Creevas is kind of he didn't play
it last year outside of maybe a few games, and
now he's coming back and he's slowly progressing into maybe
the guy everyone expects, but it's going to take until
probably February because he's still a lumberer. He is what

(27:38):
he is, right, tall shot blocker that is undeniable. But
if he can get like ten and seven ten point
seven rebounds in addition to a walk out doing what
he does, get another twelve or thirteen and whatever combined
together a.

Speaker 2 (27:53):
Position unvolieable front court. Yeah. Yeah, and no, I thought, listen,
I was really impressed with MO against UCLA for what
I'll tell you my specific reason was they dumped the
ball to him. He was out on the perimeter a
little bit, and he made him a move. I made
a move, and I go, Okay, if he can do that, right,
that's a different that's a different games. So funny you
say that because if you remember Tarzuski, Yeah, and he

(28:15):
was kind of Yeah, he made one of those moves
and people are saying, if he could do that, just
what he never did any Yeah, and and he is
what he is, right, But but Crevius is the same guy.
If you could just do that little little more, a
little more game by game, this team could be what
people think he could be. Plus he's I mean it's

(28:37):
he's becoming more physical, Like he's becoming more confident.

Speaker 4 (28:40):
Yea more confident, more physical. Yeah, that's kind of what
we saw with Henry Vasar. Yeah, he knew that there
was a possibility, but could he actually do it? He
took that step last year, who was now a world
of difference, now projected as a top twenty pick. Shocked
to me, he was fantastic. He's going to be the
steal of the draft this year wherever he lands.

Speaker 2 (29:00):
Yeah, because you're getting I mean, he's still pretty wet
behind his ears, and he's got a lot of movement
and development to do. But and in today's NBA, he
is today's NBA. Yeah, I mean, especially with now he's
actually confidently shooting at.

Speaker 4 (29:14):
He reminds me of I know, you guys don't really
watch NBA, so this name name might not mean anything
to you. He reminds me of a more fluid Alfon
Saint Gun on the rockets, kind of able to to
spread the floor a little bit. He's a threat from
the outside, but he dominates inside.

Speaker 2 (29:32):
Yeah, that's a Steve's favorite player. He's got his jersey
in his car.

Speaker 3 (29:38):
I'm just saying, right, he said, no, Well, he's the
guy from New Mexico State. They played at Toronto. I
can't remember where he's at. Yeah, where's Indiana?

Speaker 2 (29:47):
Same type of you know, yeah, guy who can just
athletic very From the first time I saw Henry play,
it was like, this guy's really good. And then he
got hurt right in an accident or whatever it was, uh,
and then he slowed him down. But he's fantastic kind
of I wouldn't take him over marketing, but similar that eventually, Yeah,
he'll have that type of career.

Speaker 4 (30:08):
I thought Vasar was a little bit faster than working
in and that's what I think separates them. Yeah, you're
just missing that kind of scoring.

Speaker 2 (30:16):
I guess market and I what forty seven the other
night in that double o D. He's fantastic too. I
take him over. And I've said this from day one
over Hayting any day, any day. I got a question.

Speaker 4 (30:28):
I got a question for you two because I was
having this conversation with some friends over the weekend. Who
is the most athletic person to play for Arizona basketball?
Athletic person? That was the name that was brought up,
Aaron Gordon. Aaron Gordon was also brought up athletic Kenny Often.

Speaker 3 (30:46):
But I'll give you the player that that Luke thought
was probably in that league, if not the top of
the league, Biston Deli, Brian Williams. Yeah, that he would
in sprints, he would beat everybody as big as he was,
except that there were times when he just didn't want
to run. You know, he had that he had that
you know, Okay, maybe, but those guys Kenny.

Speaker 2 (31:07):
Is Nick Johnson in that conversation, Uh yeah, yeah, but
not to that level you Andre, Uh, what did I
say Hassan Adams. Remember how Hassan was on that athletic Yeah,
just undersized forward. Yeah, Brandon Ashley to a degree, but
not not in the same Aaron Gordon's your number. I
think I would say Aaron Gordon number one. I mean

(31:32):
losting you had to almost put number one. I mean,
the guy goes from being what's the.

Speaker 4 (31:35):
Critaria, what's the question? Just athletic most athletic players. Let
me come through Arizona.

Speaker 2 (31:40):
Basketam, I'm going to throw this at you because through
another guy, Michael Dickerson, because of wiy and blood, could
do so much.

Speaker 3 (31:48):
If you remember the Ali hoops, they'll be throw blah
blah blah. Just kind of this, hey man.

Speaker 2 (31:58):
That just means I'm comfortable or I'm tired of listening
to you both. And then Richard Jefferson. But I wouldn't
put Richard Jefferson at the top. But he's that guy, right, Yeah,
he's the top ten, number ten. I don't know if
you can listen not taking anything away. I mean Aaron
Gordon obviously on that list, but I don't know if
you can't not put Kenny Loft at number one. Yeah,

(32:23):
because you already did it. He's already proven two sports
at the high school. Yeah, and you're going on to
you're in the Hall of Fame conversation at the MLB level.

Speaker 3 (32:29):
Yeah, no, I would be that. And that's let me
tell you, I don't know the seventies. Yeah, but I'm sure.

Speaker 2 (32:35):
I think that. I think the one thing you wanted
to say there was I don't remember the seventies. I
don't know the seventies.

Speaker 3 (32:42):
I don't remember my friends all those days, the Coneyan
Lorman's and Eric Whennies and those guys and the guard
Russell Russell Brown.

Speaker 2 (32:52):
Oh yeah, that's really good. And I know they're good.
So I don't throw Bob Elliott in there. Yeah, but
he's talking athletic. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (32:59):
So what is this conversation? I had this conversation over
the weekend with some friends.

Speaker 2 (33:03):
People your age. Yeah, and what they say because they.

Speaker 4 (33:05):
They said Andre Agudala, Aaron Gordon, Nick Johnson.

Speaker 2 (33:10):
Uh, it was.

Speaker 4 (33:11):
It was a lot more newer because of recency bias.
But I said, I want to get the convert the
point of view from some older the dinosaur.

Speaker 2 (33:22):
Here's the name that we didn't Gilbert Arenas. Yeah, yeah, absolutely, Yeah,
I mean you. You have to be very athletic to
play at that level at that I I don't know
if I put Nick Johnson there because he was kind
of the mold for his guard size already. Yeah, so
I don't know if he did any I mean he
jumped out of the roof a little bit too, but
I don't know if he did anything athletically for that

(33:44):
size and for that position that was completely abnormal. So
to your point, I'm going with Kenny, and it'd be
it would be Aaron Gordon next his size and what
he's able to do, and he changes his game and evolves,
and I mean, does his name even come up?

Speaker 4 (34:00):
Oh no, because you know, I think I think maybe
my brother did.

Speaker 2 (34:04):
But we were all like, whoah, yeah, yeah, that that
makes me. He's the best picture, you know picture, that's
the only one he knows. That's when are we going
out here? We got to get this out to the audience.
I've never should have made the announcement. Everybody's going to
get a chance to see me.

Speaker 4 (34:23):
Well, let's let's get some calls and let's throw it
out there. Who would win in a a three point
contest or even a long one.

Speaker 2 (34:33):
I would me and Blake. Between me and Blake, I
was a professional athlete one so was I like a
foot taller. They do, and you have you have the
youth sit on me and I think you could beat
me in a three point contest. I will say that,
thank you. That's what I was looking for. That's we're good.

(34:55):
We can we can agree to disagree on other stuff.
Would be a point shooting contest. Pop, Yeah, I would
have enough. They'll make me stumping in front of you
guys now, but I am going to do that. We meet.
Take some calls on the best athletes people. Yeah, you've
got to go to breakers order. I think it's a

Sports fourteen fifty. Time Steve Vera, You're Blake Eager, You're
one and one You're gonna have to post the question
again to possible callers.

Speaker 4 (39:15):
Who is the most athletic player to come through Arizona basketball?
There's been Well Aaron Gordon, Okay, you said you guy,
Kenny Kenny, Brian Williams, Andre Andre Iggy, Richard Jefferson.

Speaker 2 (39:32):
Well what about Rondez? Would he be up there at all?

Speaker 16 (39:35):
No?

Speaker 2 (39:36):
Not with these guys. No, No, he was too stiff.
But you don't include the old timers can column, because
that's who listens to us. They would know more about
the seventies than I would because I didn't cover them.

Speaker 4 (39:50):
You know, the Eric money is the Russell Brown quote
unquote didn't cover. He doesn't remember. No, I wasnt, etcetera.

Speaker 2 (39:57):
I was twelve years old. Is it in seventy nine?
You were I was fifteen. Well you just said you're
twelve years old.

Speaker 13 (40:03):
I wasn't.

Speaker 2 (40:04):
I didn't live. I didn't live. Yeah, you were in
Santa Fe. So is that how I'm talking right now?
Does it look like I've I needed you about fifteen
minutes ago? You've been dropping stuff all over the studio.
You want to go, I know, I do. Pump.

Speaker 4 (40:18):
He's pumped. He wants to be with those those students
that showed up early. How long will it take you
to get through the house from here. I'm not saying
that on the radio.

Speaker 2 (40:28):
Minutes.

Speaker 3 (40:29):
Okay, you'll you'll be ten minutes into the game. They
won't start on time either thing, So no, okay, we'll
be good.

Speaker 2 (40:34):
I'll just be calling you and cursing you the whole
time this shot. Yeah, that's a that's a pretty solid list. Yeah,
of athletes just in the last forty years. You're talking
about forty years ago, right, yeah, eighty, go way back
to the twenties. Priddink, Yeahdink, the junior Link, Richmond. I

(40:54):
know these names because I wrote all these books on.

Speaker 3 (40:56):
You should know these. I should know these, the historian.
You shouldn't know Theressman was probably the best. They played
in the NFL back in the day too. Yeah, hello,
you're on the air and nine of the ball. Please
give us some names. Who's Thish?

Speaker 2 (41:09):
There's a Jim Jim? What do you have? Give me
some names?

Speaker 5 (41:13):
Gilbert and Arenas. I enjoyed watching for that very reason.

Speaker 2 (41:17):
Yeah, and to go.

Speaker 5 (41:18):
With your go with your pick. I liked Michael Dickerson
for the same reason.

Speaker 6 (41:23):
I think Arenas was a little stronger, but yeah, Michael
Dickerson could shoot a twenty two foot jump shot and
also dun't from the rim.

Speaker 2 (41:32):
Yeah, get to the besket You know who haven't said
to Reggie Geary? Yeah, I was gonna bring up bredget Yeah.

Speaker 5 (41:39):
Yeah, Reggie could do he could do it all.

Speaker 2 (41:42):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (41:42):
And the other guy I liked was Brian Williams. For
a big guy, he was, he can move pretty well.

Speaker 3 (41:47):
Yeah, No, I agree with you. I agree. Thought he
was the best in his time.

Speaker 2 (41:52):
Yeah, okay, because they Yeah, because you throw a job
that okay, Jim, No, thanks were you were you here
in the seventies? No? Eighty three? Okay, so you came
when Luke came. Okay, cool. Maybe somebody think, somebody in
the seventies can call and say, who would who would
fit that bill back in those days? And I don't

(42:13):
think maybe Pete Williams. Maybe I just don't remember seeing it.
I didn't see him at all. Yeah, would just think
that Colin. Would you put CoA somewhere in there? He's
not that guy. No, No, I don't. I don't put
co into the and not saying obviously extremely good athlete,
but not in the freak athlete, Like he's just a
freaking nature. He knows how to play his position almost

(42:36):
better than any freshman we've had in that same position
in that body. Yeah, because I think Aaron Gordon was
the same position right, both run and fours, and and
I think Aaron Gordon was a little timid his freshman year.
You didn't see you saw spurts of it similar maybe
like he played for Sean Yeah yeah, yeah, where like
I said, you roll the ball out there with that
group and you go go be the best athlete before

(42:57):
you're every team we're playing, you're the five best athlete
on the floor. Go be those guys to just go.
But it was like stay in your lane. It was like,
come on, man, like this guy is in freak. Yeah,
he doesn't have a shouldn't have a Yeah, So okay,
anybody else want to call? Do we want to go
a deeper dive into the game tonight because forty how
much time we have? You said a lot of curse
words about ten minutes. Okay, but if we get a call,

(43:20):
revisit this, let's go wait listen, we didn't get a chance,
so on, Yes, you're a younger man, You're you're recently graduated.
Right is the interview. We're gonna ask interview questions. Okay, uh,
what is what is your what is your own personal ceiling?
Do you think in this in this business?

Speaker 10 (43:37):
Like?

Speaker 2 (43:37):
What do you want out of this? And what do
you think is attainable from the position you're in right
now to where you can get to? It's looking far ahead.
It should be so random, But go ahead.

Speaker 4 (43:49):
I don't think it's random. But I think my ceiling
is similar to what Steve is doing. I think I
could be that kind of figure for possibly fall.

Speaker 2 (44:02):
Now you're gonna have to get a tattoo Steve on
your back. I'm gonna call that's an image I don't
want to see. Hello, you're on the air nine the ball.
Who's this?

Speaker 5 (44:16):
It's Jim again.

Speaker 6 (44:20):
Can I make a.

Speaker 5 (44:20):
Comment about Brennan?

Speaker 2 (44:23):
Yeah, yeah, of course.

Speaker 5 (44:26):
I think he might have been and it's just becoming
an established observation now, but he might have been the
best long term higher University of Arizona could have attracted.
I think he's a guy that has the potential to
be here for twenty years.

Speaker 3 (44:48):
Let me ask you this, did you think this a
month ago? And did you think a month ago and
had he not won a game or two that he
would have been.

Speaker 2 (44:59):
Here other year.

Speaker 5 (45:02):
I took my rumps and I called your show and
I told you the day I listened to the press conference,
remember that, and I liked the way he responded. And
you made a point to say, yeah, I did too.
That's been about three or four weeks, and I said,
I think he has it in him to get this done.

(45:24):
And sure enough, he's getting it done. And so at
that point in time, I had come around to the
point where I thought this guy can do this.

Speaker 6 (45:36):
And the major benefit I think to everybody involved is that.

Speaker 5 (45:45):
He has the potential to stick around for fifteen or
twenty years, and that's a huge advantage as time goes on.

Speaker 3 (45:53):
Well, that's that's the Luduls approach, right. If people come
calling you, no, I'm happy where I'm at, people host
stuff at you, I'm happy where on that and that's
how you established the thing we were talking about earlier.

Speaker 2 (46:05):
You win wins.

Speaker 5 (46:06):
One other thing, I'm sorry, one other thing that I
think we could have Jay try to train the audience
a little bit, and it's it's some tough medicine. But
I don't I don't.

Speaker 6 (46:20):
See Arizona ever being the national championship team.

Speaker 5 (46:24):
And to that point, you know, how long were.

Speaker 6 (46:26):
We in the pack pack ten PAC twelve forty years?
We never wanted.

Speaker 5 (46:35):
Now we might have a shot of winning this conference, you.

Speaker 6 (46:38):
Know, one out of you know, eight or ten years.
I can't answer that.

Speaker 5 (46:44):
But I think what needs to happen is people realize
that eight and four, nine and three, that's a good
football team, and that's a good program, and you know
they just one or two players short, well, jim of
what the competition is.

Speaker 3 (47:04):
If that happens, then we talk about being consistent eight
and four, nine to three teens and people would go
to the games and know if that's the case, they
would start believing they.

Speaker 2 (47:14):
Have to start that. I think they have to have
a starting point. First.

Speaker 5 (47:18):
I think we're I think we're now experienced experiencing takeoff.

Speaker 2 (47:23):
Okay, you better buffle up. You had this chance with
Dick Tomy, right, yeah, And it started and then it stopped.

Speaker 5 (47:30):
We talked as Jay were as Jay where I come down,
and Dick told me I loved his I loved his
approach and I like the you know, the colorful nature
of the players.

Speaker 2 (47:42):
I mean, I'm.

Speaker 5 (47:44):
Pretty sure that during the you know, the late eighties
or early nineties, we had a couple of kids that
drove beer trucks before they got on the team. He
just recruited, you know, people he thought he could players.

Speaker 2 (48:01):
Right, No, I hear Glenn Parker is a perfect example
of that. Ja yeah, surfer kid. Okay, thanks Jim, Thanks Jim.

Speaker 5 (48:09):
Okay, don't call it time.

Speaker 2 (48:13):
I love that. I love when people sign off and
go okay, bye bye. It's just such a simple like
you expect it from kids, but when you hear it
from adults, it's so funny.

Speaker 4 (48:22):
That's the third call this week that's called twice. Yeah,
that's good week. I like that we get a lot
more calls too.

Speaker 2 (48:28):
Yeah, shows that you've got a lot of people waiting
to get on repeat customers. They're not yawning in studio, man,
step your game up, attract my attention. Told that's the
probably I got it war freezing in here. No, to
his point, I mean, that's something I think the three
of us talked for early on in season, like what
is expectations? And that's it? Right? Seven and three, eight

(48:49):
and four competitive and all the games consistently, but they're
fun to watch you root for the players. It looks
like they like each other, they play for each other.
That's an atmosphere that on. So here's the problem. You have
to do it every year now with nil and chasing
the chasing the coin and that's hard.

Speaker 3 (49:06):
Yeah, but that's part of it. Well, I'm not gonna
worry about everybody else. I have a problem here. Yeah,
I think that's something right there. I'm not gonna worry
about everyone else. IM gonna worry about what's going on here.
It's something that Brett Brennan's perfected to.

Speaker 2 (49:18):
A t this year. I agree with that.

Speaker 4 (49:20):
Because, like we've talked about the being in Shell, we
talk about that ASU matchup all day long and it
could be really exciting. We could talk about the upset
win last week. It was really fun to watch. He's
focused solely on Bailey.

Speaker 2 (49:34):
Yeah. Yeah, yeah. He's also got a great staff, right, So,
I mean I think when we talked about retaining coaches,
I think I'm more worried about him retaining his coordinators.
This is so strange of a conversation. A month ago,
this conversation was not even I was thinking that exact
same thing.

Speaker 3 (49:50):
Because people are ready to bury him honestly. Yeah, it
might not wrong. Yeah, yeah, you know what. I'm gonna
apologize now. I was one of those people that said,
I don't know if the dude's the guy. I don't
know there was there were some coaching decisions that ended
up costing that b why you can't cost the Houston name.

Speaker 2 (50:08):
This is why I can't be on the fan boards
or message boards anymore because you'd say shut the hell up. No, no, no, no,
I mean yeah I would, but I would also just
it's just the constant like this, this guy's no good,
this guy's no good, this guy's no good. Hey, this
guy's no good. And you're like, what are you talking about?
You have even seen you've even seen full of two
years of his work? Yeah, Like it's just I get it.

(50:29):
And we're so quick to make those calls because we're fans.
And you have the ability to make that because you're
a fan. And when people get angry, and Steve, you
and I were talking about that earlier today, people get
angry because they're like, how dare you say that? You're
you should be saying thank you for sharing that, because
I know you care enough to be critical, not only
to be critical, but actually have emotional stake into the
team and that means that's what that's what they're looking for.

(50:53):
So you can't get angry when a fan gets critical
either I can because you could be critical and I'll
do all that things. But you're not going to sport
the team either financially or you have to be Is
it gonna be that? You have to you have to
support that, you have to have the games, You have
to support the fans, right, yeah, if you're gonna have
that heartache you've got. Yeah, because there's one thing sitting

(51:13):
there and writing all this stuff and really he ha
ha ha, No, that doesn't it doesn't count. Your vote
doesn't count. I don't appreciate you mimicking the way I laugh.
But other than that, yes, you're spot off. Okay, bye bye, okay, okay,
see you, Jim. Okay bye bye. Are we ready to
go in? This good show? It was a good show.

(51:33):
Thanks you for calling. You didn't even know, Vic, Thank
you very much, Vic. Yeah, didn't even get to listen.
I was gonna I was gonna suck it up and
congratulate Vic and the Dodgers. Oh you have a world series, Vic, Dorry,
you'll be able to change. Just keep consistent, baby, keep consistent.
Somebody's got to give me strange And if you win
one more game, I'm taking you to the lunch. Where

(51:53):
did you come to?

Speaker 11 (51:54):
You?

Speaker 4 (51:56):
If it gets dinner? Did you set a budget yet?
We said a Mendo.

Speaker 2 (52:02):
You go to this.

Speaker 3 (52:03):
Listen to Long Jean, My God, two restaurants I miss,
Let's go. Thanks everybody, You're not going to be here
till Monday.

Speaker 2 (52:11):
Thank you. Audios
