ensure your most prized possessions.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
Hey, good afternoon, everybody. Welcome to I on the Ball
here on Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve Rivera. In
today with me is Troy huts us Sin.
Speaker 3 (00:23):
From Arizona Wildcats on SI.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
On this sorright, we got one from hind the Ball.
Hie on the Ball Arizona desarm warm. Yeah, back from
his world tour, from the Summer World Tour. Summer World tour,
that's for sure, across country journey. Good to have. Everybody
Welcome Monday, Monday. Uh, gonna have an eclectic show here.
If you don't know what that means, just google it.
(00:48):
Uh not while you're driving that you driving though that
what you're uberine or whatever you're doing. Yeah, we're gonna
have Uh it's one day. Tomorrow's a big day because
of football, right, first day with media day, so most
of well all of us will be out there from
eleven to about two thirty and then come in and
do the show. So there's that. So a lot of
football will rest away for now at least at least
(01:11):
you have Eccentric.
Speaker 3 (01:12):
Yeah, all football from here on until near the start
of basketball season.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
Right, and then we'll get from that to women's basketball
as well and other things going on. But we have
burke on Becky the head coach. Very good. Were you
with us? Yeah? Yeah, she was good, right the impromptu
Yeah yeah, she just called in and that was great.
So we'll see. But today we're gonna have a cross
country marathon runner in Molly Sheridan. She was in the
(01:36):
North Pole doing some crazy stuff and we'll talk to her.
She just returned and she's out on another adventure, so
we'll talk to her her website, why she why in
the world that she doesn't do this, what provokes her
not or prompts her to do this? And then we're
gonna have mister the Thornydale coach that just got beat
(01:57):
Mike Scott. They were in sanbourn and you know, one
of the holy grails of the West Coast for a
Little League baseball or Little League softball, They just got
beat by California. So just talk about the journey there
with that with the eleven and twelve thirteen year olds,
so that should be a lot of fun. So here
we are. Yeah, oh good. If you guys want to
call a five two zero four one six seventy four
(02:20):
four zero, that'll be fine. You guys ready for football?
I'm been very ready. You see. You see how I
walked in today. You are you're twenty one? Who's not
well dressed?
Speaker 3 (02:28):
I'm ready to go. Give me a number twenty one.
On Tremathing Bonduran.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
Tremaine Bondur, the guy. We had him on the show
four years ago. The dude was everywhere, got kicked out
the team and he came back. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (02:42):
Yeah, ballhawk is a good word, you know, that's one dude.
I was kind of surprised didn't get a shot in
the NFL. Yeah, did I think he was an NFL player?
But no, but no training camp in by late round
draft pick no one drafted. Stuff.
Speaker 2 (02:56):
Yeah, he was always the right place at the right time.
He's a rapper now. I think if you google him,
we've got him on the show before he started a
rap career. Everyone's a rapper nowadays. Aren't you a rapper? Steve?
I'm not here to cause no trouble, just here to
do the high end the balls shovel. All right, there
we go. You heard that reference before we said it
(03:20):
was just heard that reference Bears, Bears super Bowls.
Speaker 3 (03:24):
That's what I thought. Yeah, eighty five I think eighty
five Bears.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
Yep. But the listeners will understand you kids, that's back
of mad date.
Speaker 3 (03:36):
You and Steve Kirk can throw down some tunes, some
some Arizona Arizona.
Speaker 2 (03:40):
Yeah, some of those, some of those back in the day,
wildcat fever stuff. Uh so are you ready? Yeah, you
have to be ready. Oh, yes, you're you're you can't
wait for this exactly. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (03:51):
No, there'll be players to talk to, coaches to talk
to you, and less of Hey this kid was offered
and you know, yeah, this kid came up with a
nine lists and Arizona is on it.
Speaker 2 (04:02):
So we'll talk more about this tomorrow but with other people.
But pressure, I don't even know what other word to use.
But besides pressure, pressure to win and not just from
from the head coach, but everybody.
Speaker 3 (04:16):
Yeah, I mean I think five and seven. If you're
competitive in every game, I think that is good enough,
good enough for what to stay alive as the head
coach of Arizona. If you're competitive in every game and
not get blown out and the ball just doesn't roll
it away. You're dealing with some injuries. Cool, but I
think realistically, six to seven wins secures.
Speaker 2 (04:38):
I agree with that.
Speaker 3 (04:39):
But if you're going four and eight again or worse,
I think you're gonna see a new coach at Arizona.
Speaker 2 (04:44):
Yeah. Yeah, So there is the pressure scale one to ten,
I'll say a seven. What uh. I just think I
have a different mindset when it comes to this season.
I think instead of pressure to win, just pressure to compete.
There were a lot of games last year that the
team didn't compete that right away you knew that this
game was over. And I think if like, like you said,
(05:05):
five and seven, but almost every game is competitive, you
had another year. Let me say this to both of
you guys. We live in a world where it's about
uh measuring the wins. You're measured by wins, right, And
if you win, you're good. If you don't, you're not
You're not good. And I think that they'll with Desiree
just how she speaks and kind of what I know
(05:28):
what everybody knows. She wants a winner and last year
was not a winner, and this year's you got even
if you go six and six that's kind of being
a winner. Maybe you get a bowl game, I know,
the bowl game. You have enough wins to get a
bowl game. Yeah, doesn't mean you're gonna get a bowl
game for the most part. Now, Yeah, there's so many
bowls here. You're gonna go put that ball. You're gonna
go to the LA Bowl, the Vegas Bowl, in New.
Speaker 3 (05:50):
Mexico Bowl, Hooter's Coffee, Frisco Bowl, something like that, you know,
I mean, like the Arizonable. Let's you know, if the
bids go different ways or knows, but six to six,
you're going bowling in today's game didn't work out for
Mike Stoops when they went six and six, they missed
the bowl game. But there was a lot less bowl
games back then.
Speaker 2 (06:08):
Yeah, but I don't know, we'll see. Let's let's get
through the season first. I think they'll do well early
obviously with the non conference schedule, and then you know,
even go six and three in my mind, and then
see where the last three games gom.
Speaker 3 (06:20):
You know, I think the added pressure to everything though,
And you kind of mentioned it with Desireet Refriends while
she didn't hire them, no, and that's she didn't make it.
And that's what I think elevates. Yeah, pressure, and you
just saw and I don't know if you guys talked
about it. I know Kim Dos did something for easy
Doesert's form on this? You saw Chip Haill get a
(06:41):
four year deal because he made it to the College
World Series. Kaitlin Kaitlin Low got a one year extension,
and somebody else did, and I think the soccer coach
did and somebody else as well, but one year extension
and clearly that say, you know what, you guys weren't
very impressive. Let's see how this goes. Roster turnover, Let's
(07:02):
see how this upcoming season goes. We're going to make
it very easy to move on if you need.
Speaker 2 (07:05):
We got a call already. Hello, you're on the air
and nine on the ball. Who's this Brian?
Speaker 4 (07:09):
How's it going to that?
Speaker 2 (07:10):
Brian?
Speaker 1 (07:10):
Good?
Speaker 2 (07:10):
Good, afternoon. We're doing fine. What's up with you?
Speaker 4 (07:13):
Well, you guys are talking about whether he keeps his
job with the five, seven, six and six and one
thing too that I think people have to realize how
many years on the contract did.
Speaker 2 (07:23):
He signed for? I think it was five, right, it
was four years?
Speaker 4 (07:27):
Five? Okay, yeah, okay, So you're looking at it. Let's
say he goes five and seven. You have some good
games and a few bad ones. Can we afford to
buy anybody out?
Speaker 2 (07:38):
Yeah? No, is that rhetorical?
Speaker 4 (07:40):
We get even fix it? Yeah, we can't even fix
the sound system and no.
Speaker 2 (07:44):
Yeah, I'm glad you listened. That's Friday. You guys might
be concerned. No, you're right, I mean, I'm sure that
was kind of rhetorical. But they'd have to find another
big donor to help buy the guy out.
Speaker 3 (07:53):
Yeah, yeah, well that that would definitely be booster money.
I mean, that's usually not affected by the athletic department
doing these buy out contracts. That doesn't go towards the
athletic fund. It's a booster fund. But convincing the boosters,
you know.
Speaker 4 (08:05):
But also too after after yeah, after a while, booster
is gonna say I'm tired of paying Probably is going
right fired, You're right, you know, you know, well, I
mean that there has to be a limit to them.
Speaker 2 (08:17):
One.
Speaker 4 (08:17):
They don't as much money as they might have.
Speaker 2 (08:20):
Right.
Speaker 3 (08:20):
The good thing for Brennan is that he has the
support of the alumni and the boosters. Given that he
is a dictomy guy, he has a lot of full
support with those boosters and alumni. Yeah, but I don't know.
I don't know if that matters with her. No, but
she's in terms of getting the money to do it though.
Speaker 4 (08:38):
Yeah, yeah, but what do you think she wants her
She wants her own person.
Speaker 2 (08:42):
Yeah, Brian, what do you think? What do you think?
Five and seven, six and six, seven and five.
Speaker 4 (08:48):
Six and six. He keeps his job.
Speaker 2 (08:50):
Okay, we'll get to a ball game. He keeps his job.
Speaker 4 (08:53):
Five and seven is going to be it's.
Speaker 2 (08:54):
Going to be questionable. What do you think is going
to happen? Though?
Speaker 4 (08:59):
I think if they can find the money, she'll buy
them out.
Speaker 2 (09:03):
Oh no, no, no, okay, I'll just look at the
schedule in terms of the record wise at the end
of the year, five and seven is.
Speaker 4 (09:11):
The best thing I can think of, because I know
the schedule sort of sobbed at first. Yeah, but you know,
and plus we just don't know what we have. I mean,
it's easy to say, Okay, you know, we should beat
these guys. These guys guys, right, we haven't seen any
of these guys play on the.
Speaker 2 (09:26):
Field, right. No, that's the thing I always talk about,
and you know that, Brian, No, I agree with you.
But you know what, maybe maybe, and this is just
a maybe because it doesn't have any basis. Last year
is one of those aberrations that they just stunk it up.
Now they believe in him and they'll play harder or
whatever with some with some pretty good guys.
Speaker 3 (09:44):
I think the biggest I mean is the coaching changes
you've seen on the staff because you had a lot
of debt right there.
Speaker 4 (09:50):
Yeah, well also too, people have to remember when he
got hired, everything was taken already. You know, they wound
up with guys like me and Steve.
Speaker 2 (10:00):
Yeah, yeah, good looking, but I can't play I get it.
Speaker 4 (10:04):
That's right, that's exactly right.
Speaker 2 (10:06):
Yeah, that quet.
Speaker 4 (10:10):
That's exact. I mean, you know, I mean, so this
year you have to look at Okay, if he shows
improvement with what he's got in his coaching staff and
how are recruited, you might give him another year to
see what we can do with the second recruiting class
because last year's recruiting class didn't count, right.
Speaker 2 (10:27):
Right, We'll see what happens. No, thanks for the call,
thanks by, appreciate it, Thank you. Unders that will about
five minutes.
Speaker 3 (10:33):
Okay, cool, You know, I know people want to say
last year's recruiting class didn'tcount. And I get it, it
wasn't a full year, A lot going on. You're trying
to piece it kind of together. But on rivals dot
Com it was still a top It was number forty
two in the country.
Speaker 2 (10:46):
That was Okay, So let me ask you something. Did
did you would know this? I think, I hope I'm
not asking you some of you. We don't know how
many of those stayed in terms of the recruiting class
when he first got here. So you're saying that one was,
what forty forty two? Okay, So the group that they're
bringing in this this year right now that they returned, yes,
(11:08):
how many of them are coming back? They're they're coming
in No, no, no, no, no, no, his first his
first Oh he's saying his for okay, the first half. Yeah, no,
not a lot, not a lot of those because they
had to be weeded out, or they just weren't good.
Speaker 3 (11:20):
Enough, or they went like Demon Williams went to Washington. Well,
you're talking about that class now, that class, and while
I'm talking about the class out.
Speaker 2 (11:27):
So now year, well, now this is a rookie class.
This is the rookie class.
Speaker 3 (11:30):
And even with having a down year, you had the
number forty two ranked recruiting class.
Speaker 2 (11:35):
You know this better than me because I followed I
hate recruiting. That's asking a lot of a freshman, because
you already know that a lot of them marketing the
forty whatever it is going to be, how they got
aren't going to place fifteen of them half of them,
and then you got fifteen whatever the other half. That's okay,
hopefully they're good enough to be good. That's a hell
(11:57):
of a tight.
Speaker 3 (11:58):
Rope it is. I'm just saying it's an impressive recruiting
job despite all the issues.
Speaker 2 (12:04):
No, no, no, that that's undeniable, undenial, now go out
and developed.
Speaker 4 (12:12):
No.
Speaker 3 (12:12):
But I think to his point that five win, Mark,
I think that's going to be the menimum. I don't
think I do agree under that.
Speaker 2 (12:18):
And when you were shaking your head earlier, you five,
you said five and seven or said whatever I think
you said. I was playing, guys, something else.
Speaker 4 (12:26):
I was.
Speaker 2 (12:26):
I was thinking about breaking news already. But five and
sevens okay, Yes, if it's a competitive, Okay.
Speaker 3 (12:35):
Personally, I think they're gonna go seven and five. We'll
see what. We'll see what they do in training camp.
But I'm leaning more towards and we talk.
Speaker 2 (12:42):
About this a lot, and we'll continue to talk about it.
I'll say six and six at the worst, like the worst,
because I do have not that I have faith in him,
I do think that the circumstances will be different. And
uh where I think that he said a lot in
that press conference, Uh the Big twelve where I had
to kiss a lot of yeah to make people happy.
(13:02):
Now I don't have to. You know, it was like, uh,
coach Gundhy at Oklahoma State, they were talking about redoing
their their their contracts, like a week into the practice.
This is no, no, no, no. You signed what you signed.
Now your mind will coach, and you deal with that
at the end of the season. You know enough enough,
enough of the winding and complaining. You've done that. You
(13:24):
were prepared. Now it's my turn to coach you guys.
Speaker 3 (13:27):
Yeah, no, I And I think that's that's the biggest
thing from media day. That and also Seth Dagi. I
think the edition of the addition of Seth Daegi is
the biggest thing in Arizona's done this offseason in terms
of hoping to get the offense back in track, because
if you take out that New Mexico game, Arizona averaged
eighteen point five points per game.
Speaker 2 (13:47):
Yeah, that's not good. That's that's horrible. And they didn't
even look good in that New Mexico game.
Speaker 4 (13:52):
No.
Speaker 2 (13:52):
I said it many times. I was didn't go as
a reporter. I went as a as a fan of
just to watch. And the stuff I heard after after
the games is what we're going to get killed because
it was it was a pretty competitive game for three
and a half quarter whatever it.
Speaker 3 (14:04):
Was, and outside of tataroal McMillan, for most of the game, yeah,
there wasn't a lot going on. I know Jacry Krosskymer
and the running back Scott things going late, but for
a good portion of that game, if it wasn't going
to TMAC, the ball wasn't moving right.
Speaker 2 (14:17):
And they're kind of set the tone for the year. Okay,
let's go. We'll get a hold of Molly.

how you doing?
Speaker 3 (19:03):
Hey?
Speaker 12 (19:04):
Great?
Speaker 4 (19:04):
How are you?
Speaker 2 (19:04):
Steeve? Fine? Thank you. So I came across your name
and your story, I don't know two three weeks ago
and I said, I got to have this woman on
and she's up and up in Northern She's up in
the North Pole, and I'm thinking, what the heck are
you doing in the North Pole.
Speaker 12 (19:20):
Yeah, it's crazy. It was a marathon up at the
North Pole. Actually ninety degrees at the North Pole.
Speaker 2 (19:25):
Oh ninety Oh okay, then you were you were living life.
Speaker 12 (19:29):
Yeah, living life. It was really interesting. This company run
Buck Race company owners aubur Wang. He there's about sixty
five athletes and we went on a ship leaving from
Norway and we took seven days on an icebreaker ship
to actually get to the North Pole on an ice
on the icy and ran up there a full marathon.
(19:53):
So it was really quite an adventure.
Speaker 2 (19:55):
Right. So it was a I don't know, a cruise
Anna run. Is that how you go? Is that your
first time doing it?
Speaker 12 (20:02):
Yeah, it's the first time. It was Actually, yeah, it's
a it's a ship that goes up there. It's the
only ship that can actually make it up to the
North Pole. It's one of the only ships in the
world that could do that. They have a science crew
on that ship doing science experiments and stuff in the
North Pole. So they put together this, you know, group
of runners to go up there and you know, get
(20:24):
to the actual North Pole to run twenty six point
two miles at the polar ice cap.
Speaker 3 (20:30):
So you said ninety degrees didn't You didn't mean.
Speaker 12 (20:34):
Ninety degrees longitude?
Speaker 10 (20:35):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (20:39):
Sorry, I was like, wow, that is really hot for crazy.
Speaker 2 (20:45):
That's why I said, Okay, you didn't have it that bad,
but you did have a bath.
Speaker 3 (20:49):
So what like when you're in that type of weather
and you're doing twenty plus miles, Like, what is it
you wear? Because I'm sure that's not easy to prepare for.
Speaker 12 (20:58):
No, it's really not.
Speaker 2 (20:59):
You know.
Speaker 12 (20:59):
I just did the seven marathons on seven continents and
seven days. I got the world record actually in January
this year for being the oldest woman to do actual
seven marathons, seven continents, seven seven days. And I started
in Antarctica, so I was used to the cold and
I had really great gear for Antarctica, so I was
(21:22):
dressed warmly. It's really freezing. It's blow zero and cold
and the water and so your feet.
Speaker 13 (21:30):
Are cold, and I think that's the part that you know,
flushing through the.
Speaker 12 (21:34):
Snow and on an ice cap. It's just I had
waterproof shoes and my gear is really good. It's just
about one foot in front of the others, just to
try to overcome the elements because it's not only freezing,
but the wind's blowing and it's not like it's even
you know, it's not good terrain. I mean, you're running
(21:54):
in snow drifts, so it's it's not like you have
a really nice road that you can clip off the mush.
Speaker 4 (22:00):
It's really tough.
Speaker 2 (22:01):
So so I'm a journalist by trade, at least that's
what I claim to be. So two questions that I
must ask, why in the world do.
Speaker 8 (22:08):
You do this?
Speaker 2 (22:09):
And are you crazy?
Speaker 12 (22:11):
People ask me that all the time. I think running
is really for me. It's a meditative state. I absolutely
love to get out there and run. I'm an ultra
marathon runner, so I've done eighty five ultra marathons, which
is any distance over the twenty six point two, which
is like fifty mile races, one hundred mile races and such.
(22:33):
I absolutely love the distance. I just found out that
the oldest woman to do the seven seven seven seven
marathons seven continent, seven days was sixty seven. So I
turned sixty eight in January and just decided to go
ahead and break that record. And by the way, I
didn't start running until I turned fifty. My girlfriend called
me and said, hey.
Speaker 13 (22:53):
If you want to run a marathon.
Speaker 12 (22:54):
I said, God, no, that sounds awful, Like, why what
do you want to do that for? It's so sweaty,
and you know, she talked me into just going and training.
And I ran my first first marathon at fifty and
it kind of blew my mind that the human body
can do so much more than we ever think as possible.
And after that race, I decided to just I was
(23:15):
reading a Newsweek article about ultra marathons. I read about
the top ten toughest foot races on the planet, and
I decided to go for it and try them.
Speaker 4 (23:24):
Wow.
Speaker 12 (23:25):
So I ran the Yeah, I ran the Badwater Ultra Marathon,
which is one hundred and thirty five miles NonStop from
death Valley to Mount Whitney and that was one of
the toughest foot races ever. And then I did I
did the Marathon to Shop to the Sahara Desert one
hundred and fifty mile off stage race, and I just
started just finding all these really amazing events that, you know,
(23:50):
tested human endurance. And it does sound crazy, and I
know people go why, but you know what, I find
it fascinating. And every time I do something like that,
I find out so much about myself and what we
as humans are capable of.
Speaker 2 (24:01):
So I haven't picked up a Guinness World Records in
forever since I was like ten. So is that what
you'll be in or does that exist anymore? Is that
one of the reasons.
Speaker 7 (24:12):
Yeah, yeah, I didn't.
Speaker 12 (24:15):
Really do it for that reason, except for the last race.
I decided to go for it just because I thought
it was curious. But yeah, I'll be in there as
one of the oldest women to do seven seven seven.
And then the North Pole was put me into the Grand.
Speaker 13 (24:29):
Slam Club and I'm actually not sure who.
Speaker 12 (24:33):
The oldest person, If there's anything older than me, I
don't know.
Speaker 2 (24:36):
I did.
Speaker 12 (24:37):
I actually just completed it, you know, just the last week.
Speaker 13 (24:40):
And so I don't know where that puts me, but
it is the Grand Slam Club, which is all seven continents.
Speaker 12 (24:46):
As well as the North Pole at the actual North Pole.
Speaker 2 (24:51):
And you're sixty eight, right, you're going to be You're sixty.
Speaker 12 (24:53):
Eight now, yeah, I'm sixty eight.
Speaker 2 (24:55):
Yeah. The only things I run to are the refrigerator
in the restroom.
Speaker 12 (25:01):
It's never too late.
Speaker 4 (25:03):
How old are you?
Speaker 2 (25:04):
Sixty one? I'm sixty one. And that's you're asking too much.
You're asking too much. Yeah, yeah, so what And I
guess you don't need to train because you're always running anyway, right,
I guess what's that? I say, you don't need to
train because you're always running. I mean you train every day.
Speaker 12 (25:19):
Well, you know what, I take a couple of days off.
I'm not like a fanatic every single moment running.
Speaker 13 (25:24):
I take a couple of days.
Speaker 12 (25:25):
Off a week. I really listen to my body and
see when I need to rest.
Speaker 13 (25:29):
And there's other things I like to do as well,
you know, swim and golf and stuff.
Speaker 12 (25:34):
So yeah, I say that, I just have a different
mindset about it. I really have the mindset of I
don't go as fast as humanly. I'm not a fast,
fast runner. I have a pace that I do at
a really relaxed pace that I like, and I just
moved through space and yeah, I just find that it's
(25:56):
it actually makes me.
Speaker 13 (25:59):
Stay real strong as as the years are coming up.
Speaker 12 (26:02):
You know, I feel really super strong and healthy. I
don't have any issues with anything. So I'll just keep,
you know, running as long as I possibly can.
Speaker 3 (26:11):
You know one thing, you know, you talk about running
in Antarctica in the North Pole and the weather and
how you have to prepare for that. How do you
prepare for that? Obviously Antarctica helped you with the North Pole,
but like there's is there a way to prepare your
body to run in that type of weather and that
type of climate.
Speaker 13 (26:30):
Hey, let's face it, we live in Arizona. There's something
here to help me prepare for that.
Speaker 12 (26:36):
Honestly. It's I was up in Reno, you know, running
a little bit in the snow up there in this
aras But that's not even it's not even the same.
Antarctica was brutal that that was colder than North Pole.
The wind it was, it was really absolutely brutal. What
I did is I really researched and I talked to
other runners who had done it, and I found out
like what really what they were wearing. I think gear
(26:59):
was everything.
Speaker 13 (27:00):
There's a company called gorgeal R that has you know, incredible.
Speaker 1 (27:08):
You know.
Speaker 12 (27:11):
Pants and jackets, gloves that are for the Arctic and
for those extreme So I really went out and just
got the best equipment I could to try to you know,
cover re part of your body because it's it's pretty brutal.
And then the other thing too, is really your mindset.
Speaker 4 (27:26):
You know you're going to be in it, and I think.
Speaker 12 (27:28):
Part of it, a part of these big ultras and
part of doing something like this is your mindset. You know,
where's your mental strength? You know, you have to conjure
up like, hey, you're going to be out there, it's
going to be uncomfortable, It's going to get tough and
really hard, and so how do you handle that, like
mentally where you at? So for me, it's just I
don't know.
Speaker 13 (27:48):
I have to just really I have to find joy.
This is gonna sound weird, but for me, I have
to find a level of fun in.
Speaker 12 (27:56):
The tough parts. I have to find a level like
I wouldn't want to be doing it just because it's miserable.
I want to go out there and really experience it
and try to see how far I could go, to
try to move myself to places that other people may
not do so and then when I achieved that. And
there's been a lot of times in my running history.
Speaker 13 (28:14):
That I haven't the DNF did not finish for whatever
reasons that you just can't make it there.
Speaker 2 (28:19):
But wow, that's I wanted to go there too. Because
you started fifty that's eighteen years ago. I'm wondering what
the woman that introduced you to this thinks one and two?
Are you kind of like this at some points in
your adventures and your runs, saying what the hell am
I doing here? And I'm going to stop? Yeah?
Speaker 12 (28:38):
Well, okay, First of all, my friend.
Speaker 13 (28:39):
Kylie Johnson, she ran. We ran the first the marathon together.
Speaker 12 (28:43):
We had a blast. We laughed our asses off. It
was hilarious. We were terrible, we were.
Speaker 13 (28:47):
Slow, but when I finished, I thought, how far can
I go? Kylie didn't do any more marathons. She we
had a good weekend, but that was it for her.
But for me, it's something that's lit a fire and
I just thought I never pictured myself athletic. I never
pictured it.
Speaker 12 (29:03):
I didn't really realize that I could do that. It
kind of blew my mind. So I thought, well, I'll
go try a fifty K. That's only six miles further.
So I went round a fifty k. But the question
you're asking is why you have to have a really
good why you're doing this, because that question is gonna
come up in the middle of a race, when you're.
Speaker 13 (29:23):
Doing fifty or one hundred miles and you're running.
Speaker 12 (29:25):
Out there in the middle of the night. You better
know why, because.
Speaker 13 (29:29):
If you don't have a good why, you're not gonna
make it.
Speaker 12 (29:32):
There'd be no reason. You know, what's the purpose for me?
Speaker 13 (29:36):
It was to get to the finish line, to find
out what I made of.
Speaker 12 (29:39):
And it was just to dig in. And I found
out that when things get really bad, when it's so hard,
you're wondering, like, why am I doing this? This is
so miserable that passes.
Speaker 13 (29:53):
You get to an aid station, you know, you eat, drink,
you take a minute, you regroup, and you get your
second win and your third win.
Speaker 12 (30:00):
It's weird.
Speaker 13 (30:00):
An hour later, you'll be feeling better down the trail.
Speaker 12 (30:03):
It's it's a lot of people don't get to that
park because they just quit. And you know, it's and
I understand it's.
Speaker 13 (30:11):
Not for everybody, but I think the big thing is.
Speaker 12 (30:14):
You can do so much more than you ever think
as possible. You can.
Speaker 13 (30:17):
You know, power walking is just as beneficial. I think,
you know, go out and power walk move through space
in some way. I think our bodies need it.
Speaker 2 (30:26):
The only person I know that does something like this,
and we had her on the show a few years back,
Pam Reid, and I'm sure you probably know each other
because she does know she does the same kind of
thing in hot, hot climates and maybe in cold climates,
but in hot climates. Uh. There was something I wanted
to say, Oh, have you turned this into a business
or like, I know your website has some stuff.
Speaker 12 (30:47):
Well, you know what, Desert Sky Adventures is my company,
and I sold a lot of my races over the
last couple of years.
Speaker 3 (30:54):
So we just do.
Speaker 12 (30:54):
We have one big event up in re you know,
and my daughters are running.
Speaker 13 (30:58):
The company, but honestly, my daughter's talking about.
Speaker 12 (31:00):
Doing a little bit more with it in the next year.
Speaker 13 (31:03):
So because we really know that there's a real need
for people to get out there and walk and run,
and we want to have.
Speaker 12 (31:10):
A little more coaching available and helping people.
Speaker 13 (31:12):
Who are at zero who want to get somewhere or
start doing something, So.
Speaker 12 (31:16):
You can look for that at Desert Skyventures. I've had
the company seventeen years. We had a ton of races
in the past. So my whole mission on the planet
is to help people move, whether you want to just
get out there and walk and run, whether you want
to do a five k at ten k, whether you
just you know you're just starting, or whether you're zero.
I've been at zero many times in my life, even
in my last career, where something comes up and you're
(31:39):
injured or you're sick or whatever, and you have to
go back to zero.
Speaker 14 (31:42):
I get it.
Speaker 13 (31:43):
But you know what, it doesn't take much to really
get out there and move again.
Speaker 2 (31:46):
How longer? How much longer do you think you're going
to do this.
Speaker 13 (31:51):
I'm going to do it until I'm one hundred. There's
a number for you. Though I have no idea, you
know what I feel.
Speaker 12 (32:00):
Just I feel grateful that I'm at where I'm at.
I do understand that there's you know, the clock is ticking.
I do understand that there's going to come a time
when I can't, and that's okay. I'll be doing something else.
Speaker 13 (32:13):
I'll be I'll be hiking, or I'll be walking or
trekking or whatever, and that's fine. I have accomplished so
much in the time that.
Speaker 12 (32:21):
I've been running. I feel so grateful for that. And
we've you know, my companies raised a lot of money
for charitable partners. Every event we've ever done, we waste
fund for charities and help people.
Speaker 13 (32:33):
So it's just a it's a great feeling. Like where
I'm at, I mean, the North Pole is like the.
Speaker 12 (32:37):
Icing on the cake. Really, to get up there and
experience that.
Speaker 2 (32:41):
You hit it out somewhere else now, right for another one.
Speaker 12 (32:45):
Actually, I'm headed to Germany and Austria. Like on Friday,
I'm trekking across Germany to the Austrian border for ten
days in the Bavarian for my time off.
Speaker 2 (32:58):
Oh so this is the time off. Okay, maybe, well
you're not. You can do some peace talks where we
need peace talks. Yeah, okay, Well thanks for joining us.
This is crazy stuff. Congrats you must have you must

you do. Yeah, thank you, thank you, Molly appreciate it.
Speaker 4 (33:24):
Thanks so much, Steve Molly Sureton.
Speaker 2 (33:27):
I'm not sure. Come on, I haven't run that much
in my entire life. Or what's running? I don't know.
Exactly three of us combined. Put a few of us
in here and combined.
Speaker 3 (33:42):
You couldn't pay me enough now, No, I'm good.
Speaker 2 (33:47):
Yeah, nothing else.
Speaker 3 (33:52):
And it's one thing to like play a sport like basketball,
rack ball, whatever, even soccer may be. And you're running
a lot, You're you're moving, But then to tell somebody, hey,
go go run four miles and she's talking about twenty
two you know, one hundred and fifty miles.
Speaker 6 (34:08):
You know those.
Speaker 2 (34:08):
No, I'm good in cold cold, yeah, yeah, thank you.

Ry Welcome back to my on the Ball here on
Fox Sports fourteen fifteen. I'm Steve Rivera, you're Troy, You're
one good about twelve minutes, thirteen minutes. Do you guys
want to call? Five to two O six five two
oh I will give you my son them five two
oh four one six seventy four to forty you can
call you either what you're on here on my phone.
(38:54):
I'm just tired of listening to her. She has a
book out. She said, make sure she has a book
out let people know, and it is called it's your
second book. I have my book, second book coming out.
It's called her first book was Running Past Midnight. So
she's having a new book come out soon. And uh,
you know, obviously a lot of energy. Sixty eight years old.
(39:16):
I don't even have that much energy now my age.
You guys don't either, No, all right now in the summer,
I don't think ever to do that much funny. That's crazy,
that's crazy stuff. Okay, anybody want to call five two four,
one forty talk about this, talk about football, talk about whatever. Uh,
Basketball's kind of low key right now, right Tommy's on
(39:38):
the road, Yeah, you know, kind of low key.
Speaker 3 (39:41):
But they've been having press conferences. They just finish that
up with cribas and and I was gonna say Tubella's
but tell me a walk.
Speaker 2 (39:48):
We did you write stuff? Did you write something?
Speaker 3 (39:51):
Yeah, we had a bunch of stuff right right way,
stuff like that. Yeah, you know, well it was.
Speaker 2 (39:56):
Kind of boring to me, although this news coming out
was crevious is going to be ready to go, and
he's good to go, and he doesn't say a whole heck,
of a lot, but he's you know, he's good. Uh
and Wakes. I think Waka is to me the funnest
player to talk to because he's so bright and he's
just so well read and all that. Yeah, you know,
I think one interesting thing was the.
Speaker 3 (40:18):
Making of home meals for oh Yeah and the track
player and their family and whatnot. The high low game
between Ohaka and Grievious. How that's going to play out,
because we really didn't see much of that last year,
even with Henry Vassart and o Waka and three point shooting.
Speaker 2 (40:38):
Yeah, that they're taking those shots, well, I don't know
if I want him to take.
Speaker 3 (40:41):
I don't think you're going to be seeing that much.
Just to be honest, No, I don't either. I don't either.
Speaker 2 (40:45):
Remember Townsend when he had the red blue and he
hit a few of them and anything, you know, whose
guys shooting and he knew well, no, not so.
Speaker 3 (40:51):
Much well with him. I mean it made sense for
his game, but he wasn't that guy.
Speaker 12 (40:56):
No.
Speaker 3 (40:56):
But if you don't want your physicals to be out
at the three point.
Speaker 2 (41:00):
He's big twelve. Although he's big twelve, and big twelve
is exactly who he is. Rough and tumble, get to
the room, get the rebounds.
Speaker 3 (41:09):
Well yeah, and then if he's at the three point
line and you're relying on crevious to do that toughness,
it's not gonna happen.
Speaker 2 (41:15):
Reminds me of Loot and when shot when when Channing
and Selim we're out there and says Channing, don't you
think we want Salim shooting the three pointer and you're
rebounding the ball? You know, obviously Channing turned into a
nice three pointer at the next level, but he wasn't
that player in college.
Speaker 3 (41:34):
So yeah, And I think that's even more so with
a Walker. I think that's Yeah, if you're looking at
a guy like, let's say, I don't know a it's
hard to compare a Walker to anybody in you have
a history.
Speaker 2 (41:48):
But no, no, and I don't know that. He's a
friend of mine now and he's built like him Pete
Williams a rebounder scorer, but he's more of a rebounder
than Davis Ben Davis. Those guys a mix of Ben Davis.
Rayo's kind of guy, you know, just but his physicalness
is just so crazy.
Speaker 3 (42:07):
Yeah, I magine my and I didn't watch Michael Wright
obviously play I did shitting nothing but three balls.
Speaker 2 (42:15):
Yeah, no, no, Michael Wright was a five five foot
in and guy in a nice touch around five feet
and just a monster down there too because he got
gotta rebound it. It's Michael Rights. Yeah, that's a good compression.
I've said that before. I think, yeah, So we'll see.
What do you think this team? The basketball team? We
have so many months to to get ready for that.
But I think a lot of people have high hopes.
(42:36):
But so there are a lot of good teams out there.
Speaker 3 (42:39):
I think they're very good. I think they're going to
start in the top fifteen to start the year. In
that ring, what is very good? Good enough to win
the league?
Speaker 2 (42:49):
I think they have.
Speaker 3 (42:51):
See the Big twelve is hard to predict because it's
just so loaded with talent. I think they're good enough
to finish in the top third of the Big twelve
they did last year, like they did last year. I
think they're good enough to make an e lead eight
final four with this roster if freshmen developed, and I
think that's there. Of course, of course, that's another one
of those things that's the biggest if on this roster.
Speaker 2 (43:10):
We'll see that. If you apply that to the football
program the same thing. No, I don't think the football
program can win, No, no, no, no, I'm talking about
the development. Yeah, you know, they'll be better if those
freshmen you can be that. I think those guys a
competing and those other two whatever, the players, Bury's, yeah,
they'll be fine. They're playing basketball and it's easier to
(43:32):
play as a freshman basketball player than it is to
play a freshman football.
Speaker 3 (43:35):
I think where the struggles are going to come are
on the defensive side of the court. I think Pete's
going to be phenomenal defensively, but Burry's when you're in
the middle of a big ball play and your bucket's
not falling and you're getting pounded by the physical guards,
how do you handle that?
Speaker 2 (43:51):
And that's going to be a massive question. Yeah, we'll
see what happens. I think there's a lot of stock
in the freshman basketball Yeah, a lot of hope, A
lot of hope. Yeah, maybe even someone considered it momentum.
You get to have momentum, just you gotta start the
moment before you have it. There was a lot of potential,
a lot of potential, a lot of stock into these
(44:14):
freshmen it'll be interesting. You're rising me a lot of
Nico Mannon's incoming class. Yeah. Yeah. The one the one problem,
the one problem though with that is that Sean didn't
let him play.
Speaker 3 (44:24):
Well, Sean didn't let I would say, Josh Green play
the style that you know, open and and Manion. But
Manion he kind of said, here's the car Keys, take
whatever shot you want. I'm not going to discipline you.
Speaker 2 (44:36):
Well, he did that. He did that in the first
semester and I wrote about that because he did that,
He'd let them play for the first semester, and then
once the second semester came, is he Sean put the
kabash on that and saying, no, we're not going to
do that. You know, you need to be a defensive
minded team, and that went to hell. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (44:53):
Well, I mean, was that the team where COVID hit
right after the tournament and they didn't get to.
Speaker 1 (45:00):
That?
Speaker 2 (45:00):
Was that was that was the year before? Are you sure? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (45:03):
I'm pretty sure no, because the year before they didn't,
they didn't have the tournament, they were suspended, right.
Speaker 2 (45:09):
Nico Manion's second semester was the start of twenty twenty. Yeah,
start of twenty twenty, so they know they got their
season canceled, their postseason.
Speaker 3 (45:17):
Cancel and Green yea, because they didn't Washington. They be Washington,
right and then.
Speaker 2 (45:22):
Google that Google that they lost to Washington was at
that game they lost to Washington on the same day,
I remember, and played them for revenge the first one
and then it was and everybody said that because they
won that game they were going to make the tournament.
That was not going to happen. I think they were
going to make the turn. I don't think they deserved
to make that. They weren't going to get that tournament.
So that was the manion of Green and uh and
(45:43):
not senior year or whatever. That final year God, I
don't remember. I would say nineteen was. But you're probably right.
That team just had issues. They had so many issues.
And it wasn't crazy issues. It was just so many
issues because they didn't they didn't like playing for Sean.
Speaker 3 (46:01):
I swear, and there is a lot of issues on
that roster. Oh yeah, it would not get along.
Speaker 2 (46:05):
You know, it is crazy. It was crazy. I mean,
come on twenty seventeen with with with Trier and yeah
and Ayton and and did you see Alkins playing in
the the in the big Big twelve, the big whatever
is the Big Turty three, the Big three, but the
T and T the the winner take all. Yeah, he
(46:27):
was in. He was in there, had a big, big
turnover and caused the team to lose.
Speaker 3 (46:32):
No, I just wrote about him. He signed with the
Japanese team. Yeah, going to play in the Japanese He's
been over there for a while. Yeah, but he did
a contract extend to be.
Speaker 2 (46:40):
Written about York yet. No, he's still playing where he
was at least still last week, playing in the tournament.
Speaker 3 (46:47):
My thing with that team is, and this is going
to be twitching the team. This is going to be
a big knock on Sean.
Speaker 2 (46:55):
It really is. Of that team's coached by Tommy Lloyd.
The in the I mean, they're they're rolling, They're fantastically
good rolling, they're playing, they're happy, they're playing the games
they want to is so? Am I wrong? And you're
right in terms of through that roster twenty nineteen, nineteen
twenty nineteen twenty, Yeah, well nineteen and twenty. It's nineteen
that you're talking about the twenty nineteen twenty twenty, right, Yes,
(47:18):
it was, you know, I know its play USC after
that Washington with Manyon and with Green and with nothing
they had. Yeah, Josh Green, Commnion. That team was had
a lot of potential just four or five months before that,
and they just didn't.
Speaker 3 (47:36):
Even in that Gonzaga game that they lost at home,
I think I was sitting by you during that game. Uh,
they were getting blown out early and then they made
this terrific comeback near the end of the game. They lost.
I think Manion shot like three of twenty from the field.
Speaker 2 (47:51):
He was unhappy. He was definitely unhappy here. Yeah, the
sole unhappy. He was usually incorrectly and yeah, yeada three
for twenty, one for ten from three point Yeah, yeah,
I mean that's not his game. No, it was moving,
it was moving up and down the court and yeah,
and well all those guys, you know, it just didn't happen. Yeah.
So that was Sean's last year, right, second to last one. Yeah,
(48:16):
what happened there with what was the last with that one?
They didn't make the tournament. No, they were suspended from
the right. That's right, Y's right, that was yeah, that's right.
Speaker 3 (48:25):
And he at the end of the year he was like, yeah,
I'm gone, basically, and he had that feel after. I
think he was a couple of days after there.
Speaker 2 (48:32):
Was no question. Yeah, that was it, right right, that's
when the president final he had nothing. Yeah, okay, twenty
twenty years, just to blurn out that last year, you
had freshman Ben Matherin, Daleen Terry h to be oh yeah, yeah, okay, yeah,
even a sophomore Christian Coloco, who wasn't good at all
(48:54):
that year, freshman Kirk Krisa. Yeah, and now he's still
with the Lakers.
Speaker 3 (48:59):
And you know that again, even you look at that team,
everybody loves to say, well, Tommy took over a loaded team. Okay,
if Sean's back another year, Dalen Harry's not in the NBA.
Christian Coloco isn't in the NBA. Maybe he gets a
tryout or something, but he's not doing what he did.
Ben mathern isn't a lottery pick. I think he's a
first round pick, but not a lottery pick. And Arizona
(49:22):
wins IM easily twenty to twenty one games and gets
bounced in the second.
Speaker 2 (49:25):
Well that's the whole thing. A lot of people, and
I know we're here talking crap, but and Sean, it
was what he was here and I wrote that story.
What is his legacy. I still don't know what the
legacy is. That he won a lot of games, but
he also didn't play a schedule like they're playing anymore,
no or now you know, he went away from that.
Speaker 3 (49:43):
Of course he gets some wins, yeah, and then fairness,
I'll give him a little bit of grace. He did
schedule Michigan, Missouri, New Mexico and all these teams, but
when he scheduled them, they weren't what they were. They
were in the dumbs. So that played into it. I
wish about three minutes.
Speaker 2 (50:01):
Okay, cool, Yeah, I gotta go back and see those
rosters because twenty twenty to me is now a blur
with a good team. And that's what was the legacy
that he had some no question, he had talent, and
I have sualy this all the time. He had a
bunch of thoroughbreds and he ran it like a like
an electric car, like a little you go to me.
Speaker 3 (50:20):
This recruiting class, even though I think it's a little
bit more loaded, is similar to the Tarzouski, Ashley Grant
Jarrett recruiting class in terms of that was the top
rank recruiting class at that time, a lot of hype
coming in, and he had some growing pain. Some of
those guys stayed longer. But I think what everybody's overlooking
(50:40):
is the international prospects of this recruiting class. I mean
it's seven deep and the ive in and the last
names escaping me from Germany. That that kid can ball,
that kid could be a contributor. Oh yeah this season.
Speaker 2 (50:54):
Yeah, well he has the roster. He has a roster.
It's going to be deep. Deep doesn't mean anything because
you it's some. When it's to shrink, it shrinks, it
shrinks all the time. Income January February. Yeah, okay, and
then the people start saying, I better to look elsewhere.
So we'll see, we'll see. Okay, Uh, you got about
another minute. Yeah, all right, so we'll talk more about
go ahead.
Speaker 3 (51:14):
No, I was gonna say one thing. Don't don't expect
Price James to contribute, No right away at all.
Speaker 2 (51:20):
I agree with you there. Uh it's a good move
to have him here. He's gonna be treated like a
regular I guess you heard the conversation. Is just gonna
be a regular student. So yeah, regular student.
Speaker 3 (51:30):
They're going to try to do interviews and like what
happened at USC with Bronni, they're gonna be a little
bit more open and just want him to have a
regular college life.
Speaker 2 (51:38):
And now we want we as a journalist group, is
just to have the chance to do is tell a story.
And if he plays, there's more time to tell a story.
Speaker 3 (51:47):
And it's not like the NBA where after a game
you're in the locker room and he didn't play, but
I'm still gonna go interview because he's lebron James. Soon
that's not happening, and.
Speaker 2 (51:56):
No should it? No, no should it? Okay, let's go
come back, get some breaking new Shiman great
