Speaker 5 (00:38):
Oh man, lovely Thursday, lovely Thursday. Almost there to the weekend.
Speaker 4 (00:42):
You were today you were clear.
Speaker 5 (00:43):
No, no, I'm not You're not leaving that for I'm
not leaving in the middle of the show this time.
Speaker 6 (00:52):
Starting off with UH Tennis.
Speaker 5 (00:55):
Jason Friend, who is on the Arizona men's tennis team,
is headed to the finals in both single men's singles
and mixed doubles at the Ryan Runer twenty twenty five
World University Games.
Speaker 6 (01:09):
I don't know, I feel.
Speaker 5 (01:10):
Like we've been having some some representation on like big stages.
Obviously we had Yakobic at UH at the Open. I
got this guy at a at an amateur's doing pretty
good keeping it going though, Tyler Loop, Uh, I guess
he didn't miss a kick today during practice, so you know, Okay.
Speaker 4 (01:33):
The question is will he during the game whatever matters? Yeah? Yeah,
playing you are you pretty good? That's a great practice player.
And then you too. No, I like playing, but I
just never got you. There are people better. You got
apologies from the coach so he could put you in.
Sorry I forgot to put you in. Yeah, you're on
(01:54):
the team. Yeah, I forgot you're down there. Don't you
think that gets me? I thought you were just the
water and gum guy.
Speaker 6 (02:03):
I was about to say, he forgets about you until
he needs that gum.
Speaker 4 (02:05):
Right. Yeah. A couple of times I was I didn't
even make some meetings and they didn't even know I
wasn't there. Like today, I was kind of pissed. It's like,
you don't know I wasn't there, Like, no, nobody knows
you're not there. Well on the bus, where's Brown? Who cares?
It doesn't matter, he'll find he'll figure it out.
Speaker 5 (02:24):
Oh, this was an interesting one from the Cardinals. J. J.
Russell was taken to a hospital for a head and
neck injury suffered during today's afternoon practice.
Speaker 4 (02:34):
Yeah, they both a couple of collided. Yeah, they actually
do hitting now, I mean yeah, they like really, yeah,
we'll do it somehow. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (02:44):
Remember when back in the day with Toby's teams and
they went to Penn State. Oh yeah, they got crushed
because you hadn't hit practice, right.
Speaker 4 (02:52):
I remember my brother going down to co Chiees College.
They camp coaches. He went through a whole bucket full
of that. Oh yes, dude, this is brutal. Yeah, what
year was that? That's ninety three to ninety five.
Speaker 3 (03:07):
I covered the team in the eighty eight ninety and
that's little trips down there. The biggest thing we had
to worry about was the flies.
Speaker 4 (03:15):
Flies really yeah, fun, the scorpions and no we have
you ever been there? Yes?
Speaker 3 (03:24):
So so you know team the team hotel they played,
you know, on campus and the media hotel was at
the Motel six, you know the swinky Great guess where
the Motel six us right next door to the prison.
Speaker 4 (03:35):
Oh there you go, right, you know appropriately do not
enter your door at night exactly. Some dudes got some
pranks pull out.
Speaker 5 (03:44):
Though, I bet yeah, keeping going. The Suns have been
aggressive I guess in pursuing a signing trade for Jonathan Kaminga,
but the Warriors keep shooting him down.
Speaker 4 (03:56):
Mm hmm.
Speaker 5 (03:57):
Interesting, Well the Warriors didn't do anything. No, they I
still don't. I can't think of a single person they signed.
Speaker 4 (04:03):
No, don't think done it. They draft, good question draft.
I don't think they've done that.
Speaker 6 (04:09):
They had. I remember they traded Phoenix for a couple
of second round picks, but I mean I can't. I
can't remember who they got.
Speaker 3 (04:20):
Not you wanna, well, you couldn't fit into it? You
got anybody who can fit into a Golden State Warrior jacket?
Speaker 4 (04:25):
Or to check. I'm not giving I'm not gonna give
up on Carr.
Speaker 5 (04:32):
Some potential realignment on the horizon in the Carolinas, North Carolina.
Speaker 6 (04:38):
Is exploring a potential move from the a CEC to
the SEC. So it's Clemson.
Speaker 4 (04:42):
Apparently that doesn't surprise me.
Speaker 3 (04:45):
I saw today that that who do you think is
the paying the most the.
Speaker 4 (04:51):
Most players in basketball this year for you know n
Ilstone and the I don't know, North carol North Carolina
eighteen point four million dollars and they're ranked eighteenth to
the season eight on top of the money that they're
going to be getting for uh, for the share, for
(05:13):
the share.
Speaker 3 (05:13):
Yeah, well what's his name? Henry's going to get a
few million or a couple of.
Speaker 6 (05:17):
Millions, got assume.
Speaker 4 (05:18):
So yeah, yeah, that's see how good All you have
to do is become a better ball player. Did you
see the Indiana coach football coach the other day, you know,
he's talking about how some of his top players are
offered one point five million to leave to go somewhere else. Yeah,
and like not, they weren't even in the portal. They
were just getting phone calls.
Speaker 3 (05:37):
Oh yeah, yeah, that's the that's the big the tampering
type of thing.
Speaker 4 (05:40):
And everybody's trying to do it before they have to
put those through the clearing house, right, So they're trying
to front load it, basically front load those those deals
right now before they have to be approved. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (05:51):
So when that's the starts, is it? Because I think
that was part of the hospital right they got passed.
So does that start in the next transfer?
Speaker 4 (06:00):
I think it's now. Okay, the the payments, the automatic.
Speaker 6 (06:03):
Payments for the school. No like not tampering.
Speaker 4 (06:06):
Oh no, that's right now, it's supposed to be, right,
now supposed to be right now, right, Well, he's not
supposed to tamper an I mean that wasn't the first one.
You're not supposed to use that to recruit people like
you were supposed to recruit them and then when they
got there, you were supposed to say, hey, by the way,
you can use your.
Speaker 6 (06:19):
Nil here for Yeah. Yeah that no, man, But.
Speaker 4 (06:23):
Yeah, that's uh so Indiana started paying their guys when
they started in what July first, I think it was.
That's that's pretty much it. Yeah, that's when it all starts.
Speaker 6 (06:32):
Yeah, they're going to be an interesting team to watch.
That was I mean, coach, he's a pretty good coach.
Speaker 4 (06:37):
I mean, you just don't go there and become that
guy right away, right right.
Speaker 5 (06:41):
Keeping it going though. The Diamondbacks lost last night four
to three. They're now three games under five hundred man
and looking looking to sell apparently what you.
Speaker 4 (06:54):
Can buy the Diamondbacks. Oh no, the player I was
gonna put together a couples.
Speaker 6 (07:03):
Also with Diamondbacks news.
Speaker 5 (07:06):
Two time Gold Glove recipient Nick Ahmed retired from baseball.
Had twelve seasons overall overall, who's with uh He spent
ten seasons with the Diamondbacks, and then he played for
the Giants. Giants says, Giants, Dodgers, Padres, Rangers, and Braves.
Speaker 6 (07:27):
So I guess he liked the West A lot show.
Speaker 5 (07:33):
Hey Homeward in Yeah, straight game Tians Dodgers record.
Speaker 4 (07:39):
I guess Jason did again. Who's your team baseball? I
don't have a baseball team, No, I never. I was
a Yankee fan.
Speaker 3 (07:49):
You know, you don't break your heart, don't get a team, don't.
Speaker 6 (07:53):
It's kind of a part of it, though. That's what
makes you like, just brings emotion out.
Speaker 4 (07:57):
Of you, you know what I mean. I've never been
invested in the baseball team. We don't need no stinking emotion.
You like to sleep at night. Yeah, I have other
problems out to ring in baseball. That's why were talking about.
Speaker 6 (08:11):
Bryce.
Speaker 5 (08:11):
Harper also made some news becoming the eighth active player
to hit three hundred and fifty career home runs?
Speaker 4 (08:17):
Was that why Chris was in here bothering me?
Speaker 6 (08:19):
Yes, God, I would assume.
Speaker 5 (08:21):
So switching over to the w NBA, there's no timetable,
I guess for Caitlyn Clark, So.
Speaker 4 (08:33):
She kills the league but not playing.
Speaker 6 (08:35):
Yeah, yeah she is.
Speaker 4 (08:36):
We should probably stop beating her up man. Yeah, like
let the girl play.
Speaker 5 (08:41):
Yeah, how do you feel about like kind of stuff
like that?
Speaker 6 (08:43):
Since you were, you know, your basketball player.
Speaker 4 (08:46):
He was the beat her upper Yeah, I was. I
was the enforcer. If you fouled somebody hard, that was
my job to go retaliate, right, So I was expendable.
You were the five fouls guy. How many fouls you
got left? Round? I got one left. Make it good,
make it count. We played a little tougher back then.
I mean I remember getting kicked out a couple of
(09:07):
games when I played at Pima. Who was the best?
Speaker 3 (09:10):
This is obviously outside of Lute, because you can't not
say lude your next best coach.
Speaker 4 (09:15):
That you played for. Does Rosboro count? Yeah? Well okay, yeah?
What made up so at? His understanding the game and
the game planning? Yeah, he's very good. His game planning
was amazing.
Speaker 3 (09:27):
Let me say when when when they no longer had
him at Uve, and you can read the story in
my book, lut lost something.
Speaker 4 (09:37):
Yeah, like he could break down a game like no
other coach and that was something really good at that
And when you when I played at some smaller schools,
you didn't have that kind of bench coach. You just
had the head coach and you had a bunch of
guys trying to make it right, trying to find the
next job. He was the perfect side dude for Luke. Yeah.
(09:57):
He was. He absolutely great mind, basketball, mine, sports mind,
and he was well read and as we talked about earlier,
he loved me. Yeah no, but he could break down film.
You can get the team prepared, and he was like
the number one guy who went to to prepare for
so each coach got a team, got a game. Yeah,
and when there was a good game, you know right,
(10:20):
you know, and that still matters.
Speaker 3 (10:21):
I still go to the people and ask who's got
the game, because then you can kind of know, you
know how it's gonna go right, or you know it's
gonna be closer knucklace.
Speaker 4 (10:29):
Yeah no, But I think the circle back to your
question about, uh, you got to protect your stars, and
you started to see that with her teammates this last
couple of games, right when she was getting kind of
beat up. But it's kind of a welcome to the NBA.
I think everybody went through it. Jordan obviously went through it,
and then he gave good stars kind of get it.
(10:50):
And then you either get better or you sink, right,
So the true icons are gonna are gonna float to
the top.
Speaker 3 (10:59):
That's and that's something every level too, though, in high school, college.
Speaker 4 (11:03):
And you're gonna you're gonna get funked around a little bit. Yeah,
but you have to grow up. Yeah, sometimes they just
kind of test your character. Where are you going to
go from here? You're gonna get stronger, You're gonna go
back in the weight room. What are you gonna do?
Speaker 2 (11:14):
Right?
Speaker 4 (11:15):
Uh?
Speaker 6 (11:16):
Kind of going off that.
Speaker 5 (11:17):
Sophie Cunningham, who is seen by some by the as
the enforcer of the fever, said she was fine five
five hundred bucks for for a TikTok post you posted
according to Yahoo Sports.
Speaker 6 (11:30):
What was it? She was just like critiquing the refs.
Speaker 4 (11:34):
Oh yeah, I like five hundred bucks?
Speaker 6 (11:38):
How much?
Speaker 4 (11:39):
Five hundred Oh yeah, that's so so. I don't know
how you guys, what do you think about? But the
n b W n b A does that make money
or no? Right?
Speaker 3 (11:48):
They lose a lot of money millions. So the shirts? Yeah, yeah,
I was wondering, okay, yeah, so how do you how
do you wear someone else? Did you ask me that?
Speaker 4 (11:57):
What I say?
Speaker 2 (11:59):
Said?
Speaker 6 (11:59):
It was tough.
Speaker 4 (12:00):
It's tough. You can't what was the what was the
thing on the shirt? I don't know.
Speaker 3 (12:07):
That's probably not the right phrasing. Yeah, pay us what
we deserve, maybe maybe, And I don't know what they
deserve because I'm not part of it, but what what
they're worth. If I'm not making any money, my kids
aren't gonna get any because I don't have any money.
Speaker 4 (12:21):
No, no. And when you go back to the nw
the regular NBA, when it first started, right, they weren't
making money. There was points where they were talking about
fold and yeah, I mean the guys were just you
were watching college ball instead, right, And then you finally
you get a couple of guys like Bird and Magic
(12:42):
and they come in and start a rivalry and start
to grow from there. And then I think what it
was at the first commissioner that I really started to
blow up the NBA.
Speaker 3 (12:51):
Well, I wonder what's gonna happen with the Sampball pros
because aren't they MLB MLB supported kind of too. I'm
not sure how much we're making, but the money's coming
from somewhere. I'm sure it's not ticket sales. I think
they should take the salary cap. These your luxury taxes.
Speaker 4 (13:07):
In fun the ladies sports, oh, I see from the
from the NBA. Yeah, so if you're instead of kicking
it back down to the NBA guys, so kick it
down to the women's sports and make those other teams play, right.
But I think the Cubs, some of those teams like
yeah way over, way over or way under. They get
paid the luck they get the money from the right,
(13:29):
so that gets shared. So when you have to pay
in the other teams that don't pay get a little
share of that. So they take that money and give
it to the situation. It's a tough show. You probably
wouldn't want to be an orner no because of that.
Just a lot of different I think a lot of
guys that own teams are doing it for the ego.
Speaker 6 (13:46):
Yeeah problem.
Speaker 4 (13:48):
I don't want to own a team. It's like, what
are you doing? They?
Speaker 6 (13:51):
I mean, I guess you get like a behind the scenes.
Speaker 4 (13:53):
But yeah, an ego tax purpose, I don't know. Yeah,
that's to me, that's a lot of ego. You got
too much money.
Speaker 3 (14:01):

just can't hear it for some reason. It's uh, all right,
let's step it good. It's been a day.
Speaker 4 (19:53):
Huh. Starting with your guest host on showing up on
Chuck Man ZIONI passed away today too, So does that start?
The starts? Another three? Another three? Absolutely, it doesn't work
that way. Watch did you play you play roulette or
anything that you like? Your money? You don't care well,
I don't gimble anymore that stuff. Seven years of living
(20:16):
in Vegas, you am still chasing some of that money
because goes in threes. You went three in a row,
Take your money, pick it up. Yeah, no, I never
learned that went three in a row, double down? Let
it right right? Three?
Speaker 3 (20:32):
So Chuck Man, Jony, we'll see what who else? I
guess if I get home with this traffic today?
Speaker 4 (20:38):
You have to be an icon. Neither of us, none
of us are. Oh good, Yeah, I don't to worry
about it, thank you very much. Yeah, we don't fall
into that, not even that. I that it's not going.
Speaker 6 (20:48):
No, it's really not good.
Speaker 4 (20:49):
Like, maybe go somewhere the other site. Is that the YouTube?
Speaker 6 (20:53):
Yeah, I'll refresh to see if that Maybe that's what
it was.
Speaker 4 (20:56):
But that's strange.
Speaker 6 (20:58):
That's strange, Yeah, because it was.
Speaker 3 (20:59):
All right, it was okay, you know previous talking about
his return from his foot injury and uh Toby talking
about them playing together this year, unlike the hum and Henry.
Speaker 4 (21:11):
Right, so Henry's gone in North Carolina? Then is he
gonna play? Yeah, there's how can he not play? That?
Dude's really good, really good.
Speaker 3 (21:20):
Did come on at the end, and yeah, one of
the secrets I thought he would be very good when
I first met him three four years ago.
Speaker 4 (21:25):
He used to be short. He used to be short,
and he handled the ball a lot. He was a guard.
He was a guard, so he had the ball in
his hands a lot, and that's how we could handle it.
Now he was.
Speaker 3 (21:38):
Yeah, right, right, all of a sudden, you hit this
group growth spurt and now you can handle the ball
and you're big.
Speaker 4 (21:44):
I wish that would have happened to me, because there
was always told just go down and go you stand
below the box, right, you were the big dude? Were
you always bigger than the rest of the people. Yeah, yeah, always.
Speaker 3 (21:55):
Was there a sense because this is the thing we
talk about with and I know you're in a different level.
So that's apologies now with Deandrey that he was good
because not good. He was good because he was good,
but he kind of didn't self motivate because he was
always better than the rest of the guys.
Speaker 4 (22:13):
When it comes too easy, Yeah, yeah, that's stuff. That's
I mean, it comes too easy. And you have the talent,
do you have the drive? So that's a great The
great people have it, right, Jordan has it, Kobe has it.
You know you had the talent, but you also had
the drive, right, that becakes you're a great player. It's
like Brian Williams and and Stokes. You knew it to
(22:36):
im same guy.
Speaker 3 (22:36):
You a tall guy, you know, kind of a smart
dude who had other things other than basketball.
Speaker 4 (22:42):
Yeah, there's a drive, right, What do you want to
be good at? Yeah? Is it just if he his basketball?
Getting through school?
Speaker 1 (22:48):
Is it?
Speaker 4 (22:49):
Do you have aspirations of being great? Good? What is it?
What is it? Right? So everybody has a different drive.
It's like da Well, Glinn, you saw it.
Speaker 3 (22:56):
Yeah, Glinn and I when they talked about that, I said,
the first guy I thought about Clid because he would
have been fantastic.
Speaker 4 (23:02):
Clint didn't have a drive, but he loved basketball. He
loved to play, he loved to practice, he loved to shoot.
And that's I think got him over the drive part
until he got to the NBA. I'm speaking out of
no but but he but he could have been much better.
Even Damon says to this day, you know how he
had my drive, he would have been much better. But
I also think Damon understood the game as well, not
(23:24):
not the game basketball, but the business side of the
game and the BS that you got to go through
of signing autographs and talking to people and doing press conferences.
So Damon was excelled at that part of the game.
Question which clin didn't like, that social part. But he
didn't really talk much. Wuldn't like to talk. He didn't
like to be out in front of people. He didn't
(23:45):
like to take Hey, I'm Clint, how are you doing?
It wasn't that wasn't his You.
Speaker 3 (23:49):
Have Damon nailed, but perfectly, because that's how he became
one of my favorites. He understood and even said to
me one time when I got him at the house,
went on a phone call, I said, I'm sorry to Bobby,
says Steven, you guys helping me become who I'm coming.
Speaker 4 (24:02):
Because of the publicity. You have to talk, you have
to interview, and you have to make some mistakes, but
you got to you can't be afraid to do him. Yeah,
he was. That's this drive. So something comes easy to you.
And I think it's in anything. It's theater, music, right,
books and school. Sure, anything. You'll see kids that are
great at school, but they hate being there because it's
(24:23):
too easy. Sure, and I'm sure you've seen.
Speaker 3 (24:25):
In fact, there's some people that have very good in
high school, didn't care about going to college. But we're
probably better athletes than the ones that went to college. Sure,
but didn't care. You know, imagine had Michael Jordan not cared.
Speaker 4 (24:39):
Right know, he'd be the best high school player. We
talked a well, actually, let's start with this conversation we've had.
Who do we have?
Speaker 3 (24:47):
Last week we talked about the best high school players
in the city all time, you know, and one of
our refs for for Ludels and stuff, tell.
Speaker 4 (24:58):
Me which one? Cory haired?
Speaker 3 (25:00):
Oh yeah, God, why can I you don't want to
talking about so he's longtime ref. I'm sorry, I'm sorry
if i'm and he's probably listening talked about some of
the best players ever, and we talked about Sean Elliott,
right uh isshue guy God yeah, no, no, no no,
(25:22):
And he said he wasn't even the best player on
that team.
Speaker 4 (25:25):
So you know, we talked about those players who were
the ones you saw. Oh, Chucky Overton was a great
high school player play Oregon. I'm not sure where he was.
There was a guy that went to Oregon, had to
ye had grade grades, but he was he's a good player.
There was a kid out of over a Desert View
(25:46):
was good and ended up at Polyverty. I can't remember
his name, big kid. But we had some okay player,
Sean Aid from South Point. His dad was the coach.
Oh yeah, Irish name. I'm spacing it. I want to
(26:06):
mac with them. My brother would know he's killing me
right now. But then the other kid over at Touson
High the same time. They were all my brother's age.
So Sean and the other kid at too soon, like, man,
I'm spacing you just got me. That's how I feel
every time I forget. But those were the guys when
I played that were really good. Nothing over there, but
(26:31):
Sean Elliot has always been in my mind the best
player come out of Tucson. Right, Yeah, I'm gonna have
to grow for my But yeah, there's not a I
mean to sounds not a big hotbed for guys that
go out come great because we don't play enough outside
(26:52):
it's too hot. We don't play enough. It is in
the winter times. Great. Yeah, come home with a tan
Neil Katz, Neil, there you go, Neil.
Speaker 3 (27:04):
We'll see him for the So I'll give you some
HOGI Simmons, probably before your time, don't remember. Pueblo had
some guys fat and Mixico.
Speaker 4 (27:13):
Let's see.
Speaker 3 (27:14):
Uh it was dogling, the stogling kid Doorn Johnson. Did
he come after you?
Speaker 2 (27:21):
No?
Speaker 4 (27:21):
I actually took his spot. Oh really, he left to go,
and then another guy left when they came, Drick Mohannon.
So I actually took Dric's number in his jersey. Okay.
Speaker 3 (27:34):
In fact, I saw him in Vegas three four years ago.
I didn't he didn't recognize me, and I didn't recognize him.
I thought he was one of the NBA guys. Uh,
he played for the Clippers. And we're on the poke
tabon and we kept looking at you and blah blah blah.
Some guy came up to me to say, Steve, how
are you? And then I had I was selling my
book at the time, and he said he looked at
me and I.
Speaker 4 (27:52):
Said who are you? And he he sent me his
players cards through my edric. How the hell are you?
Speaker 3 (28:00):
I try to get him on the show. He wouldn't
come on, but then we went back because he was
with the recruity class of Ben Davis with Joseph Blair.
Speaker 4 (28:07):
I should say, Reggie, that top one. Thank you. Yeah.
I didn't get a call though my name wasn't called
in the draft, and I didn't get any free agent offers. No,
although I make myself eligible for the draft every year. Yeah, nobody.
Can you get it on your phone?
Speaker 3 (28:23):
Uh?
Speaker 6 (28:23):
Yeah, I can get it?
Speaker 4 (28:24):
See if you if it's just our situation with the computer.
Speaker 6 (28:28):
Yeah, because like I mean, have the same buttons on that.
Speaker 4 (28:32):
Can Can you hear it on your computer on your phone?
Speaker 11 (28:35):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (28:35):
I should be able to.
Speaker 4 (28:37):
So it's got to be that.
Speaker 6 (28:38):
Yeah, it's it's either that or the soundboard. It has
to be one of those two.
Speaker 4 (28:41):
That's strange. Yeah, go ahead and talk talking amongst yourselves,
talk amongst ourselves.
Speaker 6 (28:48):
Huh you got a football team?
Speaker 4 (28:50):
And yes, I love the Cardinals. I am a homegrown
Cardinals guy. I will support the Cardinals. We talked about
getting season ticket. I just wish our quarterback was a
little bit bigger. Yeah, tiny little. He's a little guy.
Speaker 5 (29:05):
He's like such an athlete though, you know, I mean
it's not everybody that gets drafted, No.
Speaker 6 (29:11):
Like top ten and like both MLB and the NFL.
Speaker 4 (29:14):
No, but I he's just I think a couple ins
just too short. Yeah. But and talking about drive, I
don't know how much drive he has anyone. There's talks
about when he first came out with his with that
second contract, about making him watch film and stuff, like
you're getting to watch so much film? He's like, I'm
not doing that. Yeah, sign of that contract. Yeah. It's
(29:37):
going to be a pretty open division, though. I feel like,
have you been watching the what's the quarterback? The new Quarterback?
Speaker 11 (29:47):
No?
Speaker 4 (29:47):
I have on Netflix? Is that Netflix? Right? Yeah?
Speaker 6 (29:50):
Yeah, yeah it's on Netflix, But no, I haven't.
Speaker 4 (29:52):
So I've found the last the two that I've watched
that quarterbacks are kind of nerdy. Yeah. The Burrows is nerdy. Yeah,
Cousins that is obviously nerdy. Yeah.
Speaker 6 (30:06):
I mean he's a dad through and through and then
the other.
Speaker 4 (30:08):
Guy are watching golf golf, golf golf like he's kind
of he's there too. Yeah, yeah, like book nerdy. But
they all like that's what makes them good because now
it's they study more. So back in the day, you
just had gun slingers who would just go out and play. Now,
(30:28):
the new quarterback, if you will, they all study film
and they study nuances and they study defense, and they
figure out where this guy is and that guy is
and if they're doing this, this is where they're going.
So that quarterback has changed a lot, and it's it's
evident when you watch quarterback.
Speaker 6 (30:46):
So how do you think the Cardinals are going to
do in the division this year?
Speaker 4 (30:51):
I'll be optimistic. I'm gonna say they're about second place.
Speaker 6 (30:56):
Second place? Yeah, who think first?
Speaker 4 (30:58):
I don't know.
Speaker 5 (30:59):
It's stuff, It's yeah, it's tough to vision. I mean
the Rams Rams are going to be in it.
Speaker 4 (31:06):
So you can never count the Rams out because they
kind of coaches a genius, right, It's amount of them
putting it all together.
Speaker 6 (31:12):
I got that old salty dog and Matt Stafford.
Speaker 4 (31:14):
Yeah, so sometimes you can out coach. I think you
can out scheme. I don't know what the word is.
But over coach like too much. Like that guy's a genius,
right mcavee, Yeah, writes his name, but he's Sometimes you're like, dude,
don't understand what you're talking about. What are you talking about?
He's a young dude too, he's a young guy. Yeah. Yeah,
(31:35):
I think you can over coach people too. You're like,
you're making it too complicated. Yeah, it's a place football.
Speaker 6 (31:41):
Is that what happened to you?
Speaker 2 (31:43):
No?
Speaker 4 (31:43):
I was always smarter than most coaches. I said, coach,
what do you You're on the team till I got
to the OA and I was like, Oh, this guy's
smarter than you team. Yeah, because what you went tom?
I was at South Dakota State. Yeah, that coach that
was kind of like home talking about Yeah, man, it's
(32:04):
cold up there and you going to Alaska. Oh my
goodness during the summer. There has no snow up there.
Right now when it snows on Easter and you can't
hide Easter eggs, get about room. No. There was times
where I was like, why is nobody walking on the sidewalk?
And I got out there it was all ice and
I fell and I smacked my head. I'm like No,
(32:26):
it's Tucsung kid. Snow, what's the look of that Arizona
kid walking on the ice? Big? What are you doing? Big?
Is he the center of the basketball team? He is
the walk on center? Send him that Who was ready
to transfer back home? And I did. Man, I made
a phone call and said, hey, don't take this stuff anymore.
(32:46):
I was doing my own tampering. I'm calling other people.
I've been walking Pea Pina was Mike Lopez, Oh yeah, God,
that's yeah, long time. He had just taken over or
guy went to the NAU. Man. I just based his name. Anyways,
welcome to my world. Forget names. Fifty seven years old,
(33:10):
I forget names. Yeah, but coach went to NAU and
then Mike took over. Yeah, he was there for a while.
Speaker 6 (33:16):
Shane Berger bur Car No, no I remember if I.
Speaker 4 (33:21):
But yeah, I played there a couple of years. But
I think Pebody's done a great child there at PEMO. Yeah,
he's got some players. I mean they were very good
last year. Yeah, and there there's so much better than
when we were playing there. It's a different, different game,
different game at every level. I mean that he plays
the Golden State rule. He got the ball you got
(33:42):
the short shot, take the shot. Go. Yeah. So we're
not going to listen to the press comments, right, we
can't for whatever reason.
Speaker 5 (33:49):
Yeah, because like the settings were all the same on
the board. Yeah, and no one's here in the building
to help us out.
Speaker 4 (33:55):
Man. So whe's Chris when you need him? It's talking stupid.
Speaker 6 (34:01):
Worried about his baseball cards.
Speaker 4 (34:04):
Okay, let's just take a break, maybe take some calls
out the other side.

Reason, it didn't play. It's the gremlins today, it is.
It's just going around. It's late July. Once this month
is over, we'll be real busy, I think. Yeah, trying
to get people in here on the phone. August also
busy month. August football starts. Football, all the minor sports start.
Get people in there, you go, you know, people to
(38:48):
talk to you. I won't be harassing you all that much.
The Olympic sports, yeah, yes, yeah, and you guys, you
guys do all those sports. We do quite a few.
Beach volleyball. Yeah, that's not a fall sport, though, is it.
It's it's spring beach volleyball is. I think they just well,
I'm trying to get trying to get them on the show.
(39:09):
Volleyball is the regular volleyball? Ye? Falls fall?
Speaker 3 (39:13):
Yeah, that should be beach halfway decent because he finished
strong last year they won that tournament that postseason. You know,
there wasn't an c double a tournament.
Speaker 4 (39:21):
But they're all allowed to do a you know, out
of season tournament type of thing. So softball does one, right,
So then I believe beach volleyball does one as well.
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. They just baseball playing
that Mexican baseball yeah, yes, yeah, you worked out too,
don't you. Yes, we do. Are you going to be
busy with the new Mexican League? Yes, yeah, we're looking
(39:44):
forward to. Can I ask the stupid question, do you
have competition? Yeah, sure we do. But I got drive,
I got drive. What do you mean, Well, it means
it means I want to be better? Oh oh yeah,
but you know what I'm saying, there's another company like Sure,
there's other companies like us out there. Two Sons. A
kind of a tough town to do that in, though,
(40:06):
because it's so it dies so much during the summertime, right,
A lot of people don't like that. Sure, but there's
a lot of companies out there that do it. Most
of my Phoenix. Oh they come down, Yeah, they'll try
to come down and take business, but it's it's tough.
If you don't have a relationship in this town. That's
(40:27):
it's all about, very very true. And who's at your
door step? Very true. You know, had I had I
not had you guys like you and and Lamont and
you know some of the other sponsors raising flores and
yeah and uh you know those guys, I wouldn't have sponsors.
And that's that's the local. That's the tie. And to
(40:48):
Son is. But you go to Phoenix, it's just the opposite.
I try to go to Phoenix and we were like, yeah,
that's how they treated you. Yeah, well, there's pretty so many.
It's all dumbers up there. It's all about numbers and
are you cheaper? Well, if you're not shaving me, and
if you're not saving me any money, then I'm not
doing it. Sure. So that's how Phoenix is. Oh really,
but I'm sure you're competitive up there. Well, we don't
(41:09):
even try to go up there. Oh yeah, there's too many,
too many to deal with. It's just a lot. It's
different up there. So and neither one of us want
to go up there and live and run a business
up there. Right right now when you're on the way out,
so many ASU fans up there, Good lord, yeah, there's
a lot of people there are. But man, yeah, you
(41:30):
know Arizona. Even if you didn't go to U of
a down here in Tucson, you're wearing red and blue.
Yeah right, you get it for Christmas. I don't know
how many people I know they get you of ased
out for Christmas? Yeah, did you go there? No? Man,
we just get every year we get a new hag
and new shirt whatever, that same thing up there. We
put a issue for au gear sure of course. And
(41:52):
that's a major market, like a major major market. Yeah, yeah, okay,
and we call anybody want to call, please do five two, four, one, six,
seventy four forty, tell us what's on your mind whatever.
We talked about the Hulk earlier with Mooney and Chuck
Manzoni today too.
Speaker 3 (42:11):
And then you had your Sabbath and who is the
third one? Malcolm Jamal Warner Michael, Yeah, and we kind
of grew up. But he's only fifty one.
Speaker 4 (42:22):
Yeah, he's young. Well that was an accidental drowning. Yeah right,
that's tough. I fear that I'm not a good drown
not a good drowning swimmer.
Speaker 3 (42:32):
So I watch that's like I said, tell people. Yeah,
I'll never get lost in.
Speaker 4 (42:35):
The woods, right, you don't go there. I don't go
to the woods. But scares the crap out of it,
so I don't do it. You know, you're afraid of Bigfoot.
You would be the one that found him. And you
couldn't get roughing up to me. It was the Motel
six and Douglas. That's it. That was Roughing. Well have
you ever been to a Gaston Gaston down in whoever?
(42:58):
It was Douglas. I thinks, oh man, it's Gary place.
I thought that was a busbee one. That's the that's
the hotel Queen. The other one. Oh no. I told
my my other daughter, my youngest daughter loves that kind
of supernatural stuff, in to the theater stuff, and uh yeah.
(43:19):
We went down to Tombstone one time, went in that
bird cage place, you know. Oh yeah, And she came
back with some crazy stuff to do makeup wise, and
she did in that theater makeup. She's like, Dad, check
this out, like where did you get that? Because I
just saw it when I was in the bird cage.
She said in my head. I had to get it out,
like some crazy stuff. So we were going on vacation
a couple of times, and my wife's like, what are
(43:40):
we going to do? Let's do a ghost tour, and
and me like, yeah, let's do a ghost tour. And
my wife and my other daughter like nope, there were Nope,
that's not an option, but like, come on, let's go
to New Orleans and do a ghost tour. Nope. Anybody
want to call.
Speaker 6 (43:59):
For what I'm I'm gonna go to Douglas for the
first time this year. I'm gonna watch that Douglas and
Busbee game again.
Speaker 4 (44:04):
Oh you're doing Yeah, yeah, I'm not.
Speaker 6 (44:06):
I'm not calling it or nothing like that. I'm just
gonna go there for fun.
Speaker 4 (44:09):
Okay, good, good for you.
Speaker 6 (44:11):
I think it's just something.
Speaker 5 (44:12):
I mean, it's cool like high school, Like I don't know,
I just like football on all levels, you know what
I mean, And like, I don't know. I find it
so fascinating that it's like apparently the third oldest rivalry
in high school sports.
Speaker 4 (44:23):
In the country and the state in the country. No kidding,
Really being in Douglas yep. Nice. Yeah, yeah, I used
to hate going down and Doug It was such a
long bus ride from from here ring Con.
Speaker 6 (44:34):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (44:34):
One night we had an owl rested our windship on
the on the bus. We had to sit there for
hours until I got another bus in the mill of Nowhere.
Sure it wasn't what's that movie with the flying thing
Cheaper Scripps. It wasn't now because I saw come running.
That was that was good. That came right away. You
knew exactly what, dude, I don't know. I like horror stuff.
(44:57):
There you go, jeeps nice? What about talking about as
U kids? That kid that went to the Giants, right,
I guess they said he was all over the place
the other day. Probably he was like killing it. He
he didn't show up just by accident.
Speaker 3 (45:13):
It's funny because he was a Sacrament of State guy, right, Yeah,
just some dude did they missed diagnosed him or miss whatever.
And then he's here. I mean come out with Steve
kerr Uh. There are some dudes that come through here
and you say what. Gilbert Renus was not a was
not a great recruit until he came here and became
the region zero.
Speaker 4 (45:33):
I mean he was he was a nice about t J. McConnell.
That guy was killing it this year. Yeah, and he
signed a great contract, and usually you signed that contract
that third one year just go, Yeah, I'm gonna mail
it in. That dude was unstoppable and he's a good dude.
You like seeing good dudes get rewarded like that, right,
you know he plays his tail off and his sister
(45:54):
playing with the son with the mercury. Yeah, what a family.
That's pretty That's but he says he's his his superpower,
his talent is his drive is his sure he doesn't stop.
Speaker 3 (46:08):
Sure, Well, who do we talk about earlier? They have
to find their way. Well, you know, you find your
way of how to be that guy, and that's who
he became. He's a smart dude. Yeah, you find your way,
you find your alley, and you use the heck out
of it. But that what he was the same year
as Teer, Right, No, who's the other guard that came
out with?
Speaker 4 (46:29):
Who with with t J J.
Speaker 3 (46:32):
Well, Johnson was there the year before, year before Johnson
than him because he was sitting now remember he was sitting.
Speaker 4 (46:38):
Out Yeah yeah yeah. But then there's they both went
uh to the NBA. You know I'm talking about It
wasn't truer, It wasn't true because True and Alkins were together,
all right. Well, then Stanley Johnson, I think it was true.
But anyways, who's still in the NBA? But question is
who's still there? We trure was a selfish dude who bold,
(47:00):
dominant guy. So who's still there? Is t J McConnell,
the hard working here that doesn't do whatever it takes.
Speaker 3 (47:06):
Kind of like, uh, the guy who was a U
A recruit with loot was going to go to USC
and they started to come here.
Speaker 4 (47:13):
Solomon Hill. Solomon Hill, Yes, another.
Speaker 3 (47:16):
Dude who was you know it wasn't flashy, smart dude
thought out of the box and just played this game.
Speaker 4 (47:22):
Is he still in the league? So he played, but
he was in for a quite a bit for more
than ten years. I think. There you go.
Speaker 3 (47:27):
Yeah, we'll look at Samy Johnson, one of the most
physically gefted players to come here, but he can't shoot. Yeah,
just how good? How long does old do those people?
It's like Randy Hollis, Yeah, Jefson, he was with the McConnell's. Yep,
who else. Aaron Gordon's done what he's done. Aaron Gordon, man,
he got to the NBA and got uh tatted up
and dried it up. Or Orlando, you show his old
(47:50):
pictures of clean cut. Now he's like yeah, and he's big,
right was he old.
Speaker 4 (47:58):
Bull Durham? Right? And the things that until you win
twenty games in the show, you need to have clean
flip flops your shoes and tell you win twenty in
the game. Then you let the fungus go back on
your shoes and people think you're colorful. So I was like, hey,
he was clean cut. He got to the NBA and
he made his millions and he made his deal, and
he's like, no, I can be me. But that's how
(48:19):
it is in the in the proach.
Speaker 3 (48:20):
I mean you, Oh, I'm grateful to be here and
work my butt off five years later, and I'm not
gonna go play because you gotta pay me, right, you
gotta pay me.
Speaker 4 (48:29):
You know. I don't care what I've done, but I'm here.
I deserve it. I'm glad he found himself, man, that's
what's good about it. Yeah, guy's kind of and some
of the other ones I can't remember, you know. DeAndre
like we talked about. Wow, So he's at the Lakers. Yeah,
good luck with that. So how's that going to mix
him and Lebron? Well, if he doesn't doesn't make it here,
he's done. Can you could you take I would like
(48:50):
to take DeAndre and put him on a Michael Jordan
team and see how bad Michael Jordan would treat it.
And he did that a lot. He did a lot
to twist teammates, right, heard like the Bill Whittington Weddington
and the other guy Australian guy. Well, yeah, he played
in New Mexico. Yeah, so all those guys in that
(49:11):
last dance was like, yeah, Michael wasn't. He gave Steve
grief until until Steve said they ain't gonna work with me.
He fell back. That's what he learned. He got his stripes. Happens.
But yeah, that's he DeAndre man, that guy had some talent.
But come on drive a little bit. I have to
(49:33):
ask you this question. But how would you have done
with that body and that man? I'd still be playing
in the NBA. I'd still be in there somehow. Yeah,
you know, I thought I could be seven foot man,
I could dominate because no one's gonna work. Who was
your guy? JB? JB was amazing, JP, Ben Davis, Jane
(49:54):
and Ben came after me. JB was a sophomore, you
know I was, But man, it can he had great feet, footwork.
Speaker 3 (50:02):
He was just the basket, great basket. Yeah, great dude,
great guy. He's done well. And there was no tougher
dude back. And then then the Rayos Rayos. He knocked
me out and practiced once. I told you that story. Yeah,
he he didn't look at but he was a tough dude.
Speaker 4 (50:19):
Yeah. He called me with an elbow and I was
staring at the I woke up and I was staring
at the Michale's ceiling light. What am I doing down here?
Why is my Why is my fear keep popping? Why
is it Tuesday? I thought it was Wednesday, you know.
Speaker 12 (50:35):
You know.
Speaker 4 (50:39):
Coach yelled at me once and I was that never
happened again, Look, I need, I need, I need better
effort out of you. Something like that. Yeah. It was
on a Frito like mock free thrown deal. And I
didn't like crash in and make lock me out, you know,
because you have to make them. I was trying to
make and I just kind of leaned on jab because
(50:59):
as I I can't this guy box me out every
time like what I'm like doing, So I just leaned
on him and then he's like, Andy, that's not the
effort we need out of you right now. It was
much more anger in it.
Speaker 1 (51:11):
Than it was.
Speaker 4 (51:12):
Like he called my name. I'm happy he knows, he knows,
she knows my name. Yes, okay, Well thanks Andy for
helping us out. Man. So I was late and I
appreciate you. Thirty minutes.
Speaker 3 (51:21):
Ye, see you tomorrow, I guess. Yeah, tomorrow. I'll see
if we get through tomorrow. I think Jay's coming in tomorrow.
See who'll see who we get well. I'm sorry everybody's
dog days this summer.
Speaker 4 (51:29):
Yeah, so we'll see happy happy Friday tomorrow. Yeah, thanks everybody,
