(00:02):
Dreamy Live. I mean my heartradio whip. This is High on the
Ball with Steve Rivera and Jacob Salezon Fox Sports Sport ten fifty. Hey,
welcome back joining the ball, youknow, Fox Sports fourteen fifty on
Steve Rivera, he's Jacobs allis now. We hope that Jay has some splode
this High on the Ball breaking FoxSports fourteen fifteen. One of the thing

(00:27):
that's breaking is I can't get DankESPN to sign on onto my iPads.
I can get the PGA tournament on. They're still playing, uh in Rochester,
New York Press and Shamble still hasa one stroke lead over the field.
A Scottie Cheffler stroke behind Adam Scott. It looks like he's still playing.
He's a stroke back. Keegan Bradley'sup there, and I don't know
where my guy Xander Shotly is.Anyways, it looks like some big news

(00:51):
has come out of California um gateeFeldman UH posting that the National Labor Relations
Board Region in California has issued aformal complaint against USC, the PAC twelve,
and the NC double A. Thecomplaint alleges that the college that college

(01:11):
athletes quote have been and are employeeswithin the meaning of what the NLRB calls
employees. So they've been misclassified asnon employee student athletes, says the Again,
this is against USC, but it'salso then the pactwov ncuble A says

(01:32):
that the three have been interfering withrestraining and coercing employees in the exercise of
the rights guaranteed in the National LaborRelations Act, and that USC must file
an answer to the complaint by Juneone. Let's basically, it's one more
thing. The complaint seeks in orderrequiring USC at alban In, PACTOV and

(01:53):
NABA to cease and desist from misclassifyingthe athletes as non employee student athletes and
to reclassify them as employees of theuniverses. That sounds like a big deal.
I you know, one of thequeen things I wanted to ask Dave
now that you say that is thething that when we talked about yesterday was

(02:15):
the geist comment about it doesn't it'sa football and basketball When you have him,
guys like him, who are youknow? Father could have some more?
What's the little Oliver could have somemore? Give me some more?
Yeah, we'll see we'll see.Okay, but this sounds like a big
deal because that's that's one thing thatthat people have been going back and forth

(02:38):
on is that, you know, should should the NC double A just say
okay, you guys are athletes. But I think one of the other things
has been that I don't think thatthat they want to be stupid, that
they want to be athletes because they'regonna say, okay, well you're gonna
get paid X. But what aboutthe quarterback who can make six figures right
right? That's you know, theuniverse first Sea's not going to pay him

(03:00):
that. No, they can't.They've already paid them or they're paying them
six thousand dollars or five for whateverit is, yeah a year, uh
year. And then maybe it's somethingthat's says, okay, your your classifying
them as as as employees and thereforeand now what there's what's been their scholarship
money is going to get taxed.I mean, it's interesting interesting to see

(03:21):
who's who's going to benefit from this, if anybody, right, I don't
know, and I don't know ifwhen we have when we get Johnna,
well ron, if you'll have somesome in some insight, to this,
UH, you know, because he'sobviously been keeping keeping taps on the on
the uh UM pack twelve deals. All right, UM Pima Pema baseball.

(03:44):
In the first round of their uhtheir district tournament, they had a seven
to two lead going to the ninthinning against UH. No, did he
go under the eighth inning against UM? What's the name of the team that
they're playing? I forget anyway,UM, the game got tied in the
eighth UH the Nebraska team, UM, I think it the Nebraska team took

(04:09):
the lead in the top of thenine, Pema tied it. Now they're
going they're in the tenth inning,so they did. They scored a run
in the bottom of the ninth UHto tie the game. So they're still
they're still in it. But youknow, they had a seven to lead.
He can't blow a lead like that. No, So that's a that's
a tough goal. UM. Kindof a little a little bit of news.

(04:30):
Mitch Dubisky, who was beat upall that time in uh UH in
Chicago, he's gotten a two yearextension on his deal with the Steelers,
so he's he's he'll have he's nothe'll not be under contract for three years
with the Steelers. Again, anotherone of those guys just good enough to
you know, keep getting a job, keep hanging around, keep um uh

(04:54):
you know, keep burning a paycheck. Good for him because you know you
never knew, uh what what hehe was gonna. How long do you
look around in the league? Doyou speak about a quarterback down? It
reminds me of of Nick Foles whogot released a while back. Do you
think he mentally he's done? Ithink so. He nixt got some miles
too. He's in his thirties andwho's gonna who's gonna pay a back up?

(05:16):
Back up? Right? He's beenmaking but he's been making exactly exactly.
I mean, he's look, he'smade a lot of money. He'll
be fine, he'll uh, youknow, he'll go the one. Maybe
he'll come and be on our shownow because we could never get him on
her show when he was playing somebody, somebody out to reach out to him
and Tom go on this guy's show. These guys are good. Um.
We've mentioned the women's golf team startsthe NC doable as tomorrow. They are

(05:41):
in Scottsdale, so sort of nota home court, but sort of you
know, they don't have to travelfar of course that they've played, you
know before. Ye, so they'reuh, they've got their turn their national
tournament. One of thirty teams inthe tournament. I think they've mentioned starting
tomorrow up in Scottsdale. Good forthem. You see, an eighteen year
old hacked into a into a fantasycamp with you know, a sports book

(06:05):
and is now being charged pretty heavily. WHOA, I don't know which one
it is. It doesn't say whichone it is. Uh, he cyber
attacked on a fantasy sports and beddingsite this past fall that impacted approximately sixty
thousand accounts. We might want tocheck our accounts. I do check my
account. I know exactly how much, and it's not very much. The

(06:30):
indictment did not identify the betting site, but DraftKings later released a statement saying
it worked with law enforcement in theinvestigation. Okay, okay, so we'll
see more about Well, did yousay that somebody hacked into the scoreboard at
the Rangers stadium, the big baseballthe big one. Yeah, the big

(06:50):
screen videos. They were just puttingstuff, They putting logos, they put
they put the devil or the Raylogos and you're putting pictures and I don't
know, I just saw a coupleof a couple of screenshots of it,
but it was clearly what was onthe scoreboard clearly was not what was supposed
to be there. Oh okay,And so you saw one of them.

(07:12):
I think it was a Diamondbacks yestoryone of the pictures or they were playing
catch in the back and the ohhe had a bird. The bird again.
Yeah, the Randy Johnson was thefunny thing. Somebody tweeted out if
he had a nickel for every timea Diamondbacks pitchers as he had a bird,
you'd have two nickels. But theycame, they came hit those rings
zone well, and it was theirbest pictures. That Gallant, who happens
to be one of my fantasy pictures. Oh yeah, this one was different

(07:34):
from the one ring Randy Johnson wasthrowing a pitch, but it was that
Gallant was just playing catch out ofthe outfield. Was somebody I saw the
video the bird flu into it wasthe funny thing. You gotta have your
head on a swivel. The funnything about it. We live in the
day and age you're gonna get filmedno matter what. Two dudes playing catch,
right, two dudes playing catch andoh, oh, by the way,

(07:55):
he hit a bird. Ye comeyeah, somebody in the seats was
out there shooting video because they wereclose enough too, and then boom,
you're out on social media. Theycan they can see. I don't know
if I didn't see if did hekill the bird? I think so?
I think yeah. I think theguy just looked at the bird on the
floor and said, you know, bumber, you better pick a better flight,

(08:18):
pat your hit on a swivel.Man, you gotta have your hit
on a swivel or fly higher orwell yeah, I mean, what's it?
Yeah, there's that too. Imean you just gotta you gotta know
you're surrounding. Did you see it? So? So I was out last
I watching the game, and theheat is the heat right there, they're
gonna they're they're very good. Twothree stars and seven undrafted, seven undrafted

(08:39):
players, and that play, yeah, yeah, that play tells you how
good you have to be or notbe, whatever where you want to go
with this. Um, you don'thave to be drafted as long as you
can play. As long as youcan play. I mean again, you
know, we saw a Lonzo Treerhang around for a little bit. Gabe
York is still hanging around. Um, you know some guys like that.
I mean, yeah, you know, Arizona has had some top draft picks,

(09:01):
but you know how long is SolomonHill? In fact, in fact,
there was a there was a tweeta couple days ago. Uh.
You know one of our things thatwe quote about college of NBA, the
most active college players from the school, Kentucky had like twenty seven. Arizona
was tied for second with twelve.Yeah, and I don't even know if
that's true. I don't know ifthat's true unless they they're talking maybe the

(09:22):
G League or whatever league that isnow in G League, because there aren't
twelve. I don't think can yougo twelve from Sean's time. There's only
a couple from from I couldn't thinkof them. No, Matherin, you
have Gordon now, um t juh tj Lowry marking in h Um.

(09:46):
I mean, let's count them justbecause Okay, okay, now, okay,
here we go. How are yougo after that? Oh? Deandredre
we Ford about him? Seven? He was only No. One seven.
That's about seven that I can.I am sure we were missing some,
but they had twelve. I'm thinkingtwelve really? Oh oh, Andrea Guardal

(10:09):
he's retired, Yeah, he's buthe was on the list of last of
the Yeah, what's you're Let meask you this, and you may have
a different one than me, uh, because I covered him. I covered
Andre for forever. Uh in thetwo years. What's your lasting memory of
Andre when he played here? Beingon the phone in the funnel? Exactly

(10:31):
my same one, exactly, mysame one. They lost the tournament,
and then they go back to inthe tournament and they lose the seating hall.
That's my lasting memory of And thenafter the fact they came back from
that, they came back from thatevent of the tournaments in seating Hall.
I think it was in a ina dwagle of a game, and he
had yet to determine whether he wasgonna go or announced that he was gonna

(10:54):
go to the NBA. So theyhad lane for the game at the time.
He's played in that and we asreporters have to go, you know,
follow that game. So he playedin it. I was chasing him
down to say, could you tellus if you're gonna leave or no,
he ran away and he chay ranaway. I couldn't get him on the
record or anything like that. Eventuallywent into a restroom and in look at
the girl like the women's locker room, and he waited for me to to

(11:16):
leave so he wouldn't have to answerthe question, I don't you know?
Look on you know Andreadala had agreat career and Arizona claimed him as being
an Arizona guy in the NBA YadAYadA, YadA one. I never saw
him as an Arizona guy similar toDeAndre Ayton and something. The first round
you know he was. He washere for one thing, um, and

(11:37):
then the sting on the phone rightbefore an NC Double A tournament game,
Um, all that stuff he leftme with a bad taste about him as
an Arizona guy. Smart dude,a great career. But that's I wanted
to ask you and see if youremember that, and you and you did
obviously yeah with the phone, No, I absolutely did. And then that

(11:58):
that bothered me again. It getsto it gets to the thing of why
are you here right If you're gonnaand I get the one and done thing,
but if you're gonna go to schoolat least give it all you have
for a year, right and formore than moving up, you know,
improving your drafts. One of thethings that I saw on Facebook because of
the n IL deal and who's gonnapay for that? And we kind of

(12:22):
talk about the Arizonassists program and afterbeing part of it, you know,
Joe Schmoe or meet you whatever, and they're saying, well, what about
all the guys that came through hereand made a lot of money. How
come they're not helping? Or arethey? Or are they helping? They're
they're mostly not They're not, ofcourse not right. You know, guys
like Richard Jeffersoniel built the gym curseputting some money. I think Mike Bibbies

(12:43):
put into a little bit of money, you know, but they that all
the way back to twenty years ago. You know, that was a question
that I had said, why aren'tthese guys who were making millions and millions
and millions of dollars and who gotthere because of a where where are they
when it comes I'm wondering, I'mwondering if the reason is one of the

(13:05):
reasons is Sean who was not oneof those guys that about him in you
know what I'm saying, he's notthe jet guy, right, It was
not a there was a little disconnect, you know that. I'm wondering if
that's part of it. Did theylet they let me out high and dry?
And yeah, I don't know.I've always wondered that why they're you
know some of the some of thoseathletes haven't been you know, bigger donors

(13:26):
over time, Uh, like theJim Furi in golf or one, right,
yeah, and and some you know, and some of those I think
Furich has done some stuff for golf. Yeah, but like you know,
what's Gronk done? I don't know, right, Yeah, I don't know.
You know what is his neck folesdone? H he probably he might
has. Yeah, Yeah, we'dhave to ask and could they tell what
if Gilbert Arenas? Yeah? Right, probably not much? Right, gives

(13:52):
them grief about that? Yeah, you know, so you wonder when you
know they're when we're getting pinched foryou know, one hundred bucks a month
or whatever that they want. Yeah, so no, absolutely, Okay,
all right, um, let's gotake our breakwhere to have John Wilner on
the show here just a second. We'll get into all the pac twelve stuff.
Um, he again always follows itcloser we go to him. We

(14:15):
thought all this was going to bedone by now, and it's not.
Dylan Terry Coloco. That's maybe nine. Yeah, maybe that number is okay.

from the PAC twelve hotline. John, how are you doing? I'm good?
Thanks? How you guys fine?As the author of As the PAC
twelve goes or turns? What episodeare we in now? I mean it

(18:48):
feels like we're in kind of arerun situation waiting, you know, for
this be if you ab to getdone and I'm I'm guessing that and it's
just a guest that you know, buy maybe the second half of June seems
like an interesting time for them toget it done to me, just because
of that, June's aren't even deadlinefor it's looming out there for San Diego

(19:11):
State, But we'll see. Willyou say at this point that San Diego
State is a is a done dealor not? No, I wouldn't say
then deal, but it sure seemspretty pretty likely. I mean, you
can't you can't ever underestimate the patwalpresident's ability to do something they probably shouldn't.

(19:33):
But uh, I do I thinkthat they're going to invite Saego State?
How can you not? Right?I mean, they just went to
the National Chimpership Game. In additionto all the things that they have going
for them and have had going forthem since the last summer, they just
went to the National Chimpionship Game. And you're gonna say, I, no,
thanks, You know, I didn'tknow if that doesn't make sense to

(19:53):
me? Right? Right? So? So what, okay, tell me
what we're waiting on. Because you'veyou've talked before, you know, last
time you're on the show, youtalk about they're trying to land three planes
at the same time. Right, the granted rights, the TV deal and
the expansion. I mean, whathad those planes just been in a holding
pattern since then or what? Well? I think the media lites, the

(20:18):
media lites has got to be donefirst, and then you go to the
president and you're saying, here's thedeal on the on the table, are
you willing to sign you your moneyover to the converence and then wants to
do that comes expansion. I thinkthat it's not going to be the three
planes landing at the same time, but it's going to probably be like one

(20:41):
after another. It's very rapid firesuccession probably how it's going to go.
And obviously the hold up has beena media lites deal. If they had
a great deal, they would havealready taken it. But just because they
don't have a great deal doesn't meanthey have it. Don't have a deal
that is going to be satisfactory itshot. It seems like economic conditions have

(21:03):
played a role in the delay, based on what Washington States President said.
I don't know that that's the onlyreason. My guess is it's not the
only reason, but that can't needto cut of it. I think so
having covered this for since you ortwelve, it seems like because it's lasted
that long, is there realistically achance or good chance they get they will

(21:25):
get a good media deal and Imean good as in, you know,
worthwhile, because we've talked about thisfor like almost a year now. Well,
it kind of depends on what doyou mean by good exactly exactly what
components are there right now? There'sa lot of emphasis on the funny,
and obviously that's a huge piece ofit, and there's a lot of emphasis

(21:48):
on the visibility, the access. What networks are they going to be on?
Are the premium football games gonna beon line or television, you know,
broadcast or cave or the big gameis going to be on streaming.
That's a big part of it.I think that one piece that's been overlooked
a little bit is the logistics ofthe selection points. Right Fans they're very

(22:15):
frustrated with that six day selection windowand with all the night games, and
so those are pieces that are they'retrying to deal with as well. And
the presidents here from their constituents,I don't like being I don't like finding
out on Sunday what time the gameis going to be on the following Saturday.
So there's a whole lot of piecesthat they're trying to work out,

(22:37):
and you know, not the moneyis probably the most important, but it's
not the only thing to me asa fan is that a TV deal for
the PAC twelve has to be kindof centered on ESPN. And I don't
know what the possibility is of that. Well, I mean, I'm pretty
sure ESPN is going to have abig part of it. I would be

(23:00):
I would be shocked if there isnot a package of games on ESPN.
And how much right now ESPN hasI think it's twenty two out of basically
eighty games. Twenty two on ESPN, there's twenty two on Fox. The
forty fifth is alternated as the championshipgame. It alternates between the two.

(23:22):
There's another thirty five. They're onthe patrol of networks, so you wouldn't
say they expand and add two teams, so they have basically the same number
of home games eighty. Is ESPNgonna have twenty two out of the eighty
Nope, it's probably gonna be somewherearound there, and I have to think
it's going to be some of thebiggest games too. That's you know,

(23:45):
part of it is figuring out thetiers and the packages and make you chart
that each network partner hears what theywant at the right price. But I
would be shocked if ESPN doesn't haveyou know, I don't know, Jackie
how much it'll be, but youknow, something like that. So you've

(24:06):
been covering this a long time andI'm gonna kind of go with this as
a media guy. Now you've beencovering this from probably day one. We
see other reports from all over thecountry from other guys that we know and
that you know, well how manyand reports are varying, right, some
denies, yes, maybe maybe denythis guy has it wrong. Um,
when you talk to these guys, can you sense that they're telling you the

(24:29):
truth for what they know today orjust don't have any idea refruiting other stories.
It's just so convoluted to me.Well, it's convoluted partly because there's
very few people who actually know thedetails, right, I mean, the
athletic directors don't even know all thedetails. This is being handled by the
commissioner as consultants the negotiators for thenetworks, and they're briefing the presidents,

(24:56):
but I don't get the sense ofthe persons know every detail as they come
up here, you know, ona week to week basis. The athlatic
directors are even more detached. Soand meanwhile, the college football media nationally
is heres to getting its information fromthe coaches and athletic directors and they don't
really know what's going on here.So that's part of the reason that there's

(25:21):
a lot of speculation and a lotof it is unfounded. You also have
the Big ten, a Big twelve, you know, which is trying to
destabilize the PAC twelve using its mediaconsultant group endeavor to do that. And
that's something that we've never really seenbefore in realignment, which is one conference

(25:41):
trying to destabilize a number like this, uh in a real concerted effort.
The PAC twelve has put itself inthis position because it has taken so long,
because it's taken most of you now, so it's vulnerable to having something
like this happen. H So youknow, that's to me, that's kind
of why the whole national narrative isplaying out in a very uneven way where

(26:06):
you don't know what's truth and whichfiction. Very few people know what's going
on. You have a party that'strying to deep stabilize, and you have
this incredible one way of time thatit's taken to get a deal done.
You mentioned a minute ago that theCommissioner George Kliavkoff and his consultants, how
is this getting done at the PACtwelve level? You know, I mean,

(26:29):
what's the what's their problem? Mean, who's sitting at the table and
who's doing the day to day workon getting this on getting this deal worked?
One? I mean it's the twoof them, I think Clikoff and
you know he's got Doug Perlman whoruns Sports Media Advisors. He may heard
a couple of Lucanson's working for him. I know Jamie Zaninovich, the deputy

(26:52):
who was the Deputy Commissioner until abouta month ago as a full time He
is now working for a consulting agency, but he is advising the PACK twelve.
He started a degree. Uh andI know that you know the PAC
twelf has got the way they weren'tchart to set up. There's an Executive

(27:15):
Committee of the Presidents. It's threepresidents on a rotating basis, and right
now at Stanford, Washington, WorshtonState, they are I think, pretty
clued in as to what's going on, and then they are disseminating information among
the other presidents. But it's reallya very small group of people, which
is why there have been no leaksof real information. Uh, they've been

(27:37):
very impressive and avoiding leaks, butin the vacuuming all this rumor and speculation.
All right, so you said aminute ago, because of this this
deadline with with San Diego stating toexplain to listeners, State doesn't once we
get passed through thirty at the endof the fiscal years year as soon as

(28:00):
the student notifies the Mountain West thatthey're leaving in the twenty twenty four fiscal
year. If they notify them withinthat year, they have to pay more
of the penalty. I think thepenalty like doubles. You know, it
goes up from like fifteen or eighteenmillion up into I think the high twenties
or thirty millions. If San DiegoState unifies the Mountain West after June thirtieth,

(28:22):
I don't know the exact numbers offthe top of my head, right
basically what we're looking at, andit could that exit fee could be negotiated
down. I don't think Santego Stateworst. They in a position one it's
got to do that. I thinkthe state warrants this done by June thirtieth.
I guess is that it will bedone by June thirtieth. In some

(28:45):
fashion. We may not know thatit's done, but I think it's some
level it's probably going to get doneby the end of this fiscal year.
Okay, let's assume the San DiegoState is in the PAC twelve. Maybe
there's maybe there's a twelve team.Based on based on what you know,
I think we ask you this everytime, based on what you know today,

(29:07):
What can you predict? What predictwhat you think is gonna where we're
gonna end up. Well, Ithink they're gonna end up with a deal.
I think they're gonna end up adding. I mean, if I were
if I were betting, I don'tthink any of this is guaranteed. But
if I were betting, I betthat they were. Uh, and you

(29:27):
know me, I was better too. Cocklais line. So Stantego State were
added. They sign a media dealthat is probably linear, which means pecaster
cable and sixty percent streaming. Idon't know who the stream is gonna be,

(29:49):
Amazon, Apple, somebody else writing. I mean that Pocock, the
NBC streaming service, got an NFLplayoff game extrusively, I kind of raised
an eyebrow for me. Um.And then the money is going to be
somewhere near where the State twelve isprobably within ten percent in a way.

(30:10):
So twenty eight million per school upto thirty four million per schools that range
into something that's that would be myguest. You know, I really don't
know. Yeah, no, wait, well we don't, but um,
you know, we can guess.I mean, we thought we knew who
was going to win the Kentucky Derby, and our horses came in last,
so you know, you just don'tknow what's going to happen well as I
would have expected, but we likeyou. We've been on weener dogs at

(30:37):
halftime of Arizona basketball game. Sothere's that and kids bowling. I think
you were there for that. Maybenot anyway, so okay, well you
know again, it's just I knowthat you know, we can. We're
continuing to speculate, and every timewe get you on the phone, we're
speculating some more. But uh,I mean, it's is there anything that

(31:00):
you feel is pretty certain that Imean, are you certain that the PAC
twelve is going to stay together?Let me put it that, Let me
ask you that. No, I'mnot. I haven't been certain now all
along, and I think the oddsof that stay together are lower than they
were, you know, three monthsago or six months ago. You know,

(31:21):
the longer this takes, the morechane that there's going to be some
kind of unknown factor that comes inand disrupts. I've got the survival as
like a four point favorite over extinction. It was as high as five and
a half, five and a halffourt favorite. It dropped down to,
uh, you know, I'm justkind of doing this because I think it
helps fans get an they can envisionwhat the situation is better by using their

(31:45):
points. But so dropped down tolike three and a half at the end
of Mars, and it's up tofour now. And a big part of
that is because two of the persons, Arizona's president in Colorado's chancellor have both
said they're willing to be patient andwait for this thing to play out,
and as long as the persons stillmechanic, I think the conference has got
a better chance to stay together. So we'll see. But I definitely do

(32:07):
not think it's guaranteed. I neverhave thought that. I think it's more
likely that it will stay together, but it is not guaranteed until they signed
that. Garana wrights are so soJohn, You've been covering a lot of
different stories throughout your career coaching searches. In addition to this, Where does
this rank? This story, thisentire story rank and all the I don't

(32:30):
know if I want. I don'twant to say fun because it's not fun,
but just kind of like a justtedious, just the research and just
waiting for calls and things like that. Where does this rank among them?
If I were gonna, well,if I were going to rank like the
top ten stories, this would beone through ten. It is. The
stakes are very high. I meantalking about a hundred sub mural conference that

(32:54):
has been the basting of college sportson the West Coast and it's fighting for
survival after the usc UCLA decision.Uh, you know, there's a lot
at stake for a lot of athletesand a lot of sports. There was
a lot of stake for fans ofthose schools and a one nine of those
schools. Uh, this is youknow, by far, I think that,

(33:17):
you know, the most significant storyI've covered for sure, Uh most
tdous as well. I never expectedback in July that it was going to
still be going here right as wealmost are in Susent right. Well,
I lost a bet to Steve thatthis thing would get done by August.
By the by the end of Augustof last year, that was a bad

(33:42):
beat at the time. I didsay it at the time because they were
locked in a ninety day window withESPN Fox, and Fox wasn't going to
give them a decent bid, Sothere was almost no chance that they were
going to get this on the thosecoast ninety days. Every war is one
before it actually fought. All right, Okay, I'm real quick. I

(34:06):
want to get your reaction to twowords, Dion Sanders. I mean,
he's he's making five or six milliona year, He's already basically earned his
first year salary, and they hadn'teven coach the game. Just you know,
forget about whether they go seven andfive or four and eight or whatever.

(34:27):
All of the attention he has broughtto the University of Colorado, not
just the football program, but theschool itself, has been an incredible amount
of marketing, uh for the university'sbrands. And that's that's what a you
know, a high profile football coachcould. We could finally do a lot
for the USC. Deon's doing evenmore for Colorado just because Colorado was starting

(34:51):
at a low level. But regardlessof whether they get to a bowl game
this first year, he has doneeverything they could possibly earn, sort of
wasting the program's profile. All right, there you go. Thanks John,
Hey, John, thanks a bunch. Appreciate it as always. Well,
you know, I hope you geta vacation. This is all done.

(35:13):
Yeah, I've got my vacation scheduledand I guarantee that's when they're going to
announce be of course, of course. Okay, John, Thanks thanks much.

live on the iHeart Radio ALAP.This is I on the Ball with Steve
Ribera and Jay Gonzalez on Fox Sportsfourteen fifty. Hey, welcome back to
I on Volcano Box Ports sporteen fifty. I'm Steve Vera Jakinsass So we have
about thirteen minutes for you guys tocall five too. Oh or seventy four
forty you'd love to hear from you. I got little breaking news, good

(39:58):
breaking news. Baseball blue seven totwo league got into extra innings. Uh,
Andrew Stucky catcher out of cdo. It's a walk off home run in
the bottom of the tenth inning tobeat McCook Community College in the first round
of the Double Ellina, the doubleElimination District Tournament. It's a four team

(40:19):
tournament in Nebraska to get to theCollege World's Junior College World Series. So
they're in the winner in the winner'sbracket with a win one, nine to
eighty. And this is just forthe West, right, this is the
West District. So um there eightdistrict champions go to the Junior College World
Series. But you know, winningthat first game in a double the Nation

(40:40):
tournament is a big deal. Yeah, they almost, they almost. I
mean they were gagging it all overthe place. I don't know what ken
Hakami was doing with his with hishair or if he's got any left.
But pima wins um means that theydon't have to play a double head or
tomorrow unless uh they lose. Wow, if they lose, but they're they're
in the winner's bracket it right now, so they play it at three o'clock

(41:01):
I think Central time. Uh,they're in Nebraska tomorrow again. They will
play the winner of Southeast Community Collegein Salt Lake Community College. If they
win that, then that they're inthe championship on Saturday. So good for
them. But Andrew Stuckey Catcher outof cdo we have a caller? Hang
on higher on the aar and onthe ball. Hey guys, so I

(41:23):
couldn't get the phone working yesterday? You throw it in the pool or what
did you do? I'm also inmourning, but not just because my father
in law died, of course, because of the son's loss. We know
that we were wondering about how wewere wondering a bunch. But Denver's gonna
win. And I was really gonnahammer Jay, but Miami did be Boston.

(41:45):
Thank goodness for Jay's sake because whenhe made a statement, oh really
one of these yeah, either oneof those teams can win the East.
But there's only one team can winat all, Jay, not any one
of the four and women, meand Steve know who's gonna win. It's
gonna be It's gonna be Denver, period, all right, okay, And

(42:07):
but I'm gonna go against you,Steve. I'm gonna say Denver's gonna win
in five. I know you needsix, but I'm gonna say they're gonna
win in five. They're that I'mokay, I'm okay with that. But
you said you need him to winin six, Well, no, I
just gonna win. Well, he'sgot a separate bet on how many games,
but he's also got Denver winning that. Yea yeah. And I'm gonna

(42:28):
go on a real long hiatus becauseJay dropped the ball and said only one
hundred more days till the first game, because I don't care about football.
I'm gonna be I'm gonna I don'twant to hear anything for one hundred days.
Hey, how or who do youwant to be the next coach of
the Suns? How? Uh?That young guy, the guy they have

(42:49):
in the bench might be okay, you know, other than myself, I
don't know how about Tyler. They'retalking Tyler. Now, forget Tyler.
He's one and he's under contract fortwo years. They'd be giving up too
much. So let me ask you. There was a good, good voting
thing with the radio in Phoenix.Who's going to be there in two years?

(43:12):
Will DeAndre be there in two years? Will will Hopkins be there in
two years? Oh? Did youhear the guys were saying that, uh
WILLI DeAndre got Williams fired. That'swhat some people like to say, Oh,
there's no Well maybe in the sensethat they didn't have a good relationship
immediately. I mean, DeAndre isnot not going to you know, matt

(43:32):
ishbie In saying I need you tofire him, But to say he got
in fired in the sense that thatrelationship was was crap and and that maybe
they say, well, we gotto make a change. Maybe here DeAndre
here, here's what I'm gonna sayyou guys said, don't Dave Hk was
great saying the child environment, havinga family, that's college. If you

(43:57):
if you're like if you're like MichaelJordany Doune something in the NBA, then
you can have your kid around. He's got a little one and a half,
you'll playing around. He hasn't doneanything in the NBA. DeAndre,
Yeah, Hey, I don't knowif you said it a bad word,
but we cut you off. Idon't think bad word you did. Kind
of didn heard it, said darnwe're good, all right, that's all

(44:23):
right. We got the dump forthree months because I don't want to hear
about the football program. You guystake care of right. We had to
dump him for a second. Wedid, we did? Have it worked?
Yeah, well you'll have to goin there and chop it up.

(44:44):
I don't know. He may nothave it sounded like he did. Okay,
cool, did you do that?We don't have another call right now?
Okay, so we have money minutesyou gets still calling. Man.
You know, it's almost like itdoesn't even matter who the coach is going
to be, right, I don'tknow if it's gonna be somebody that did
you? Did you say the listof guys? Now you look at the

(45:07):
list, it's not sexy. It'sno, you don't hear you even know
who they are. And they hada pretty good one, honestly. You
know, they all get recycled andall that. They weren't the guys that
they weren't the names that were usedto that's for sure. Hey. In
fact, if JB has been interviewedin Milwaukee, why would you be Why
wouldn't you just bring him out hereto see how you'll do? Right,

(45:28):
Honestly, I think maybe the entreeplays for him. You know what I'm
saying, it's hard for him,you know, Arizona guy. You know,
it's all a little something, right, a big man something to add
to the relationship. Yeah, Blair'sa big guy. You know, maybe
he'll feel like he who knows.Yeah, let's let's get that petition.
So something's gonna it could could happen, who knows. I do feel that

(45:51):
JB's gonna get a head coaching jobat some point, at some point,
because he's got that personality. Um, and he's again been successful where he's
been, and I know he gotthere the interview with Boston, but that
just seems like a bigger job thanmaybe a first time coach can step into.
That coach is in trouble. AndDamien Damon Damon, who's now no
longer with Boston. He's a Bostonbut Milwaukee Milwaukee. Yeah I was green

(46:16):
uniform. That got confused. Uh, Damon's no longer with Boston now he's
into Georgia Tech, so he hassome jobs in. Jason Terry is still
coaching. I think he's in Utahstill. Um, So all these guys
have aspirations for being coaches, notthat they would get that type of job.
But Milwaukee is a big job.I mean there there's the number one

(46:37):
yeah seed in the in the inthe in the NBA after winning the title
not too long ago, two yearsago May. So we'll see. It's
it's a big boy sport, man, it is it is. And yeah,
right, and if you're if you'reafraid of that job, then you
probably shouldn't be there anyway. Soand I'm sure Joseph Blair's no, yeah,
no, afraid of that. AndI think he'll be eventually, at

(46:58):
some point he'll be ready to doit. Yeah. Like I said,
he's come a long long way.Um, anything else, you still got
about six minutes I'm watching I gotthe PGA on on my iPad. And
there's a guy, a player who'sknee deep in a lake. Not at
the lake. It's a who god, who is that? I mean,
he's up to his waist in water. I don't know what he's doing.

(47:21):
He's got mud all over his armand he fell, he fell in the
water. This is awesome. That'sgonna be all over. So the foot
basketball game starts here about five thirty, right, right, uh, five
thirty, so we're good. Thatgives me enough time to get home.
Put something down on it. Step, Oh, don't do it. But
if I take the Lakers, though, wouldn't that make you? Yeah?
Yeah, please take the layers. So you're putting double double down, Baby,

(47:46):
I'll sleep easier. Oh God,excuse me, you're putting me to
sleep, Steve, Okay, no, you you've had long days here,
that old age of beers. SoI've been seeing some really somebody, I
mean, you want to talk aboutdigging for stats? Right? Okay,
somebody did a stat that Michael Wileyled that he had most yards or most

(48:12):
times that he wasn't touched before nineyards or something like that. And now
there's another one. He's got themost yards per attempt when there have been
seven defenders in the box, andhe's got eight point zero average in that
situation. He leads, he leaves, Oh, he leads a pack twelve.

(48:37):
Okay. I think Michael Wile isgonna have a really good year.
You know, he's he's really good. I think the whole office is gonna
have a good year. I hopethat Delora can kind of move past what's
happening with him, and you knowthat's gonna be a heavy burden, There's
no question about it, don't youthink on the road even at home again
again, they just got to getsome stuff out of the way in the
preseason, right, get it,get at the hill out of the way,

(49:00):
and maybe maybe you wait, youknow what we've been talking about,
address it and get done with it. Maybe they do it at the start
of camp, say this is itthe last time we're talking about it,
because by that time maybe some ofsome stuff has died down or whatever.
But I do think they I dothink he is going to need to address
that, and whether he wants toor not, because he's gonna get asked

(49:20):
and then he's gonna get asked outof the place. But if he does
it preseason and says, this isthe last time I'm talking about it,
and you know, when he goesto someone's school and somebody brings up and
say, I addressed at the beginningof the day, I'm not talking about
it anymore. You can do that, yeah, and that and that's what
that would that doing something like thatwould do. And if I was this
pr advisor, if I was thedepartments a pr advisor, I would advise

(49:43):
it they do something like yeah, and it's probably not even up to them
anymore. It's probably up to theschool. Yeah, and you know almost
you're almost say if you do it. Kind of in the summertime, things
are kind of dead, nobody's around, nobody's talking football much. You'd say,
hey, we're gonna old the pressconfers of Jade Delora would all show
up, we talk about it fora day or two, and then it'd
be goodnn, it's over right gone. So we have a called one.

(50:07):
Let's go all right, Hi,you're on the ron on the ball.
Hey, guys, love your show. Steve, you had the right sense
to try to cut that guy off. I did it went through everybody?
Did it go through? Did youhear it? You didn't cut it off?

(50:28):
No, we got to go throughthe through the have to. I'll
have to peel it out of thewell. Thanks for calling and let us
know who's this? Who's this?I do love your show? Thank you?
Who's this? Jeff? Jeff?Okay, Well, thank you very
much, thanks for listening. Appreciateit, thank you and thanks for letting
us know on that. Thank you, Thank you, Jeff Damn Howard.

(50:50):
I did look at the clock,so through with nine minutes left in the
show, so I'll find it.Well, Howard's called, wasn't that?
I did do that the other daytoo? Was it him? Was him
the other day too, wasn't it? We don't have to have a chat
with Howard. He's texting me earlierhe said he didn't. I'm telling him
he did? You did? Youdid? We just gotta call it?
Said you did? All right?Okay? So um, anyway, going

(51:12):
back to going back to the subject, you know, just just address it,
address it, get it out ofthe way. Sure, and and
for you know, for the mediais good, but also for Jade the
lords. Sure of course. Letme ask you, have you checked over
unders winnings for Arizona? Was itlike five and a half? Five and
a half? Probably still gonna bethere, you unless it was a gift

(51:35):
to you? But was it agift? Would have a tough number,
yes, because now you're saying you'rebetting that they're going to be in a
ball game. Mm hmmm right.Six wins? Yeah, according to our
guy Jake, whoill be on tomorrow, he says, he says seven wins
regular season and and then when possiblewin a ball game. Yeah, but
he's never not optimistic. I'm lookingit up right now to see where where

(51:58):
Arizona is. They are. It'snot five, which is like five and
a half. I'm not what fiveyou tie so you can get your money
back. But they've dropped to five, So five, I bet the way
I'd go over if i'd go over, if I were to bet it,
I'm not gonna bet it. Butstill, I mean, I don't see
it. I don't see plus plusthe plus your minus has gone down because

(52:24):
at five and a half it wasminus one fifteen, not's minus one ten.
Okay, I think I'm gonna haveto go get this right now.
You're gonna go over? Yeah, yeah, I think that's the safest bet.
Well, the smarter ben it's morefun to bet it that way.
Well, for you to go outthere and bet against them, bet for
them to lose. I guess KevinSummers there, I might. I did

(52:44):
that with Maca. I didn't bet, but I was rooting against him,
so we get fired. But that'sa kind of fan that I was.
All right, Steve, that's itman, ok. Gold Nuggets. Steve's
on the on the Nuggets. Heneeds them bad, needs him to win,
needs him to keep win in andwin the series. Steve wants them
in six. Yes, right, they don't have to win a six,

(53:05):
but yes, all right, I'mtaking the Nuggets. You just said the
Lakers go back to me, allright, be back tomorrow. We're gonna
have Reggie Geary and Jake Fisher willbe going now as step back tomorrow
