Speaker 1 (00:00):
Steve Rivera, he's got his eye on the ball on
Tucson Sports Station yet Fox Sports fourteen fifty.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
Hey, welcome back to my on the ball here on
Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve Rivera, your Troit and
you are Juan. If you didn't know with the breaking
news for breaking news, this is I on the ball,
breaking news on Fox Sports fourteen fifty.

Speaker 3 (00:24):
Happy Wednesday to everyone out there, yours truly meet to Lindo,
Goodie two shoes ray on some occasions for Steve. You're
gonna started off breaking news with some Arizona athletics. I
didn't get to this yesterday, but Arizona Track and Field
signed seven athletes.

Speaker 4 (00:41):
Let's go ahead and go through the names.

Speaker 3 (00:44):
Picked up four transfers from Washington State who ran sprints
and hurdles, Parker Duskin, Mason Lawyer, brook Lyons and John
Paretes Preddi's I don't know how I said. I'm not
sure if I'm saying that right. They also signed Bryce
melt In, a sprinter from Santa Fe to Mexico. Brice Melton, Okay,

(01:04):
I have to look that name up, ya heard, and
Kenyon distance runners Vincent Guaci and Lowie Lowie and Nick
nick Gi.

Speaker 4 (01:17):
I'm not sure you want to say, because no one's
gonna yep.

Speaker 3 (01:21):
And again, like we've talked about, the MLB All Star
Game took place last night. I think they got tied
at six, right six at the bottom of the night.
At the end of the ninth they went to their
first ever home run swing off.

Speaker 4 (01:34):
And you don't have for next area we're the Allsong game. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:40):
I didn't to see a lot of fan reactions that
were they fans of the the Twitter Twitter.

Speaker 4 (01:46):
I mean there's happy people on Twitter, you know.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
I thought I saw more about the tribute to gar Yeah,
that was pretty nice and the that that did well.

Speaker 4 (01:58):
Yep.

Speaker 5 (01:59):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (01:59):
Still, I think they have games today or tomorrow, starting Friday, Friday, Friday,
starting in Friday, game starting on Friday. Regular season continues
to the Summer League. The Phoenix Suns just lost eighty
five eighty nine to the Timberwolves Timberwolves four to oh
being scorer for the Suns was Ellis twenty three points.

Speaker 2 (02:21):
Boogie Ellis, Well, that name brings the bell. I don't
think the Sounds is gonna be any good in the
next couple of years. I think they'll be a bubble
team this season. I really they'll sneak into the plan.
What gives you that hope? Devin Booker is really good.
I like some of the cour pieces they have coming
back with Royce, O'Neill, Grayson Allen. He had to get
that Bradley Beal contract. And I think Malawak in the

(02:42):
center situation is going to be one of the best
tandems of big guys in the league. So if I
bet you, you would probably remember the bet. I would not.
I would really just.

Speaker 4 (02:52):
And I'm not saying the I'm saying the play in
and that Yeah, eight to ten is eight ten, eight
eight eleven. Yeah, at least to the playing. That's just
the plan. That's it.

Speaker 2 (03:04):
You'd make that bet. I'd make that bat Okay, let's
do two bets. Play in and then play in the playoffs.

Speaker 4 (03:09):
No playing. Let me think of my playing, let me
think about it.

Speaker 2 (03:12):
Just was talking tough for a second.

Speaker 4 (03:14):
Because you can be below five hundred, well, yeah, I
guess what they're gonna be below. I think they'll be
right at that border. I think they might be around
really two games under two games, Okay, I'll give you,
I'll give you three games, I mean three games, three
games under I'll do the plan. I'll do the play, I'll.

Speaker 2 (03:29):
Do the plan.

Speaker 4 (03:30):
If you give you three three games, I'll do the plan,
and then we don't have a bet.

Speaker 2 (03:35):
It was a straightforward bet. Okay, I don't make bets.
I don't think I'm gonna win bety Man.

Speaker 1 (03:42):
That was.

Speaker 2 (03:44):
But I like that.

Speaker 4 (03:45):
We'll have to come back to this. We will some
more cats in the association sort of.

Speaker 1 (03:52):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (03:52):
Cable Love played with the Blazers last night. They won
ninety three eighty seven over the Pelicans.

Speaker 4 (03:57):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (03:57):
He finished with five or sixteen shoot overall, seventeen points.

Speaker 2 (04:01):
You had a lot of product, maybe free throws. I think,
did you have a lot of throws? But I saw
him a couple shoot, a couple got.

Speaker 4 (04:07):
To the line and then they raved. Did you watch
a game? I didn't watch.

Speaker 2 (04:11):
I watched. They were raven about them all game. It
was it was fantastic. They were raven about And he's
got that gate right, you know that gate in his head,
you know, more power to him. I like him. I
like him.

Speaker 4 (04:21):
We didn't get to really know him, but I like him.
There's there's a lot of guys that have played in
u of a that I have covered, not a lot,
but a handful that I didn't very very much care
in recent years because you've been doing that for a
long time. Yeah, but Kila loves one of the good ones,
and there hasn't been one very recent. But and I'm

(04:42):
not gonna say, but there's how long have you been covered?
Uh you have a basketball probably about six years?

Speaker 2 (04:48):
Okay, so it's you're talking about the six year period. Yeah,
so i'd say about Tommy Tommy and and the end
of Wow we have thumbling off the guests that off
the air.

Speaker 4 (04:58):
Yeah, but yeah, just us a few.

Speaker 2 (05:01):
Yeah, okay, Yeah, well I've been doing it twenty five.

Speaker 4 (05:03):
There's a lot more of a few.

Speaker 2 (05:05):
Well yeah, not but no, because.

Speaker 4 (05:07):
It's not a it's not a bat. What I'm saying
is you would you're gonna find one or two everyone, Yeah,
sure of course. But overall arching theme a lot of
good guys in Caleb and is one of those guys.

Speaker 3 (05:18):
Three of eight from behind the arc, four six from
the line for twelve rebounds, uh, five assists, one turnover,
which is pretty good.

Speaker 4 (05:28):
Good for him.

Speaker 2 (05:29):
The five or sixteen is like called Tuesday. It's just
it's what he does.

Speaker 3 (05:34):
Some Phoenix Suns news, Bradley Bealle has agreed to a
buyout with the Suns. He's going to join the Clippers.
Sons fans rejoice.

Speaker 4 (05:42):
Yeah, thank god it's over. And you know he's he's
the talented player when healthy. But when you're never healthy
and you're paying somebody a fifty million dollars a year
to be out there, you got to get rid of that.

Speaker 3 (05:54):
Welcome to America to some college over. I guess college
over on his with this one.

Speaker 6 (06:00):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (06:01):
The NCAA has disciplined Memphis Athletics following school work probe.
They announced mutually agreed to punishment today, saying in a
report that former Memphis academic counselor paid two unidentified softball
players a total of five hundred and fifty dollars to
provide test answers and complete assignments for an unidentified basketball
player during early January and through February of twenty twenty four.

Speaker 2 (06:26):
Can you spell cat? I gave you the C and
the T. No, somebody just took me up on my
bet with you, so I don't need.

Speaker 4 (06:36):
You, Okay, somebody else got is one of the color
that loves the signs in.

Speaker 2 (06:41):
Yeah, so three I got minus three games and playing.
You guys are delusional. Okay, there's a lot. It's really
hot in this state. Guys are getting tea. It's getting heat.
The heat, it's totally getting hotter. Yeah, in an ice box.
I'm just fine. You don't right now, You're you're comfortable, right, Okay.

Speaker 3 (07:01):
The Broncos have reached a deal with first round pick
Johnny Barron. Uh, let me see if I can find
the details. Just over eighteen million, which included a signing
bonus for nine point eight million.

Speaker 4 (07:14):
The four year deal.

Speaker 3 (07:16):
Yes, four year deal. And that's pretty much it for
breaking news. Not a lot going on.

Speaker 2 (07:23):
At all.

Speaker 4 (07:24):
Yep, there was some stuff going on now, Okay, nothing.
I don't know if you guys said news Lowry, I
don't know if you guys said it yesterday, but Lowry
market not Larry marketing god. Pela Larson will not be
part of the NBA Summer League the rest of the
summer weeks. He's kind of shutting down, but he's going
over to Europe to play with Team Sweden or the

(07:45):
EuroBasket tournament that they're doing, and had the full support
by the Miami Heat organization. So that's good for him,
and I think he's in good standings with that organization.
I think so too. So did we did what's his day?
Played last night? Townsend? Nope? He has not played this
home entire summer league and has gotten impeide every single time.
So yeah, he's he was playing just a roster spot guy.

(08:07):
I'm assuming you'll be seeing him signing overseas.

Speaker 2 (08:10):
Yeah, yeah, no question. Yeah, yeah, who else? So what
about Borrow.

Speaker 4 (08:20):
And Johnson? Yeah, Johnson's been playing well, I think, uh
not the pass game, but one recent game he had
twenty two points on like five of nine, shooting six
of ninety's.

Speaker 2 (08:31):
He's a different beast because he's got that he's got
that motor, he's got that body. He's not a great shooter,
but he can do a.

Speaker 4 (08:37):
Lot of different things. He's an energy guy. Yeah, he's
an energy guy. No good point.

Speaker 2 (08:41):
Uh So he can do it and there's no no,
no doubt there or no surprise that he there's.

Speaker 4 (08:46):
A spot for him in the in the league that
needs they do guys. Yeah, totally. I'm trying to find
the last Ballow is not going to be I mean,
he's played more than he has a better shot right
now than Towns and he's played in.

Speaker 2 (08:59):
Some ys, but he is what he NBA is not
his style.

Speaker 4 (09:03):
No, No, I think Ballow might have made it in
the league in terms of being a piece if you
go back to the two thousands or late neither. You
when you saw guys like big Country out there playing
center very really you know what I mean. But you
saw bigger dudes. You saw your ninety four, You saw

(09:24):
your Amcca Okapers out.

Speaker 2 (09:25):
There, your Bradley's from buy a.

Speaker 4 (09:28):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (09:30):
So last game they played was on Monday. Shot finished
with twenty two, Pillow with twenty four.

Speaker 2 (09:36):
Those dudes were playing with the little boys, little kids
because there have been there a year, you know.

Speaker 4 (09:41):
You know, to have a year under their belt. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (09:43):
Yeah, they got the they got the system going. Yeah,
and Ballow didn't have anything, did not play, didn't play.
Good dude, one of the best dudes.

Speaker 4 (09:53):
Yeah, Tommy, there was no hard feelings when he left
for that was the community too. Yeah, even from the communit.

Speaker 7 (10:01):
That was.

Speaker 2 (10:02):
That was a good thing that he left and Temmy
knew that and he was gonna make your money there.
It was a marriage. It was a marriage that needed
to be separated. Yeah, yeah, from both sides obviously. Okay,

Streaming live on the iHeartRadio app. This is I on
the Ball with Steve Rivera on Fox Sports fourteen fifty eight.

Speaker 2 (15:47):
Hey, welcome back to I on the Ball here on
Fox Sports fourteen fifty on Steve Rivera, and today with
me is Troy Hessin from Arizonal Wildcats on SI. We've
got one at the controls and now we have Chased Clemmons,
one of the great two roadrunners, the communications and PR
guy Chase Horri.

Speaker 14 (16:05):
Steve, I'm doing great. Thanks so much for having me
on your show. You I'm a big college football guy,
so yeah, kind of following Aaron's act as an organ alum. Yeah,
oh are you big act to follow?

Speaker 2 (16:23):
Okay, you're an orgon duck?

Speaker 14 (16:27):
Yeah, yeah, for my for my undergrad I went to Oregon. Yeah,
I've enjoyed Aaron. Uh yeah, work for for a long time.

Speaker 2 (16:36):
What year did you graduate? I know people are gonna
be shocked, but what year?

Speaker 14 (16:42):
Oh well, I'd rather not Okay, I'm just I'm just
gonna sived twenty sixteen.

Speaker 2 (16:48):
Twenty sixteenth, which is not too good. So who was
the basketball coach at the time? All then must have
been right? He was still there?

Speaker 4 (16:55):
He Yeah, So you've seen some pretty good stings from
being a duck.

Speaker 5 (17:01):
Yeah.

Speaker 14 (17:02):
Yeah, you know, I kind of caught the uh kind
of the end of the Mariota years and graduated just
barely just before our football team, you know, took a
before the program took a bit of a dive. But yeah,
it's been great to uh kind of see them back
on the upswing here under a well crystal ball and landing.

Speaker 2 (17:25):
Yeah. No, okay, good, good for you. I didn't know
that that part of it. You've been with the road
Runners almost a year now, how did that go? Your
first year? First year was great?

Speaker 14 (17:36):
Yeah, just as a you know, lifelong hockey fan and
someone who who grew up playing, you know, it was
kind of special too, uh uh to serve the team
last year and uh on the ice, you know, it was.

Speaker 4 (17:53):
Pretty successful year.

Speaker 14 (17:54):
You know. We we uh we you know, as if
I had anything to do with it, the uh, the
players and coach and staff, you know, made it to
the postseason for the third straight year, you know, fall
shorts in uh you know, uh game three of the
best of three series to the eventual champs. But yeah,

(18:16):
a lot of lessons learned on my end. You know,
I've had several PR media relations stints as an intern
so yeah, it was just a real treat to sort
of have more responsibility and uh have a full time job.

Speaker 2 (18:33):
Real quick, can you do you want to mention where
those internships were and remember that where you live now?

Speaker 14 (18:41):
Yeah, yeah, I would love to. So I attended Arizona
State I probably shouldn't say that too loud down here
in uh in Tucson for for a grad program in
in sports journal in them communications, and uh, you know,

(19:02):
had the privilege of interning with the athletic department there,
learning from the great Doug Tamreu, who I'm sure you're
you're familiar with, and uh all you know, got to
help with every sport you know, including including the hockey
and all the Olympic sports and uh baseball, football, et cetera.

(19:25):
And then had a you know, a season internship with
Arison the Cardinals, so got to have a very small
role helping out their their great media relations team led
by Mark Dalton, who's you know, been leading their PR

(19:45):
efforts for forever. So yeah, a lot to uh you know,
both those organizations.

Speaker 2 (19:52):
Well, welcome to Tucson, So thanks great.

Speaker 4 (19:56):
Since you've had a full year in Tucson, obviously, the
road Runners been very successful here building up their fan base.
What have you learned about Tucson and hockey, because whenever
anybody thinks Tucson, it's basketball, sometimes baseball as well, but
hockey does not come first to mine and.

Speaker 2 (20:13):
Talk about the fan base because I'm not I'm not
a hockey guy.

Speaker 4 (20:17):
But is it.

Speaker 2 (20:17):
I'm sure it can reach more people.

Speaker 14 (20:21):
Yeah, thanks for the question. You know, we have a
really hardcore, passionate fan base. You know, we've we're going
into our tenth Annverversary season here and you know, we have,
you know, core segment of our season ticket members. Have
you know, been season ticket members for you know, the

(20:43):
the entire history. I don't know the exact breakdown in
terms of you know what what percentage, but we have
a lot, you know, and we we do several community
events all throughout the season, usually whenever the team is
is is home, you know, both for charity, community and
then first season ticket members. And yeah, it's been awesome

(21:06):
to sort of get to know a lot of them
personally because like I mentioned, they're they're very hardcore fans
and they're at every every game, every event. So that
that's kind of what I love about this level. The
h l And and this team is I think there's
just kind of a unique closeness and access to the

(21:28):
players and coaches. You know that that fans you know,
don't don't always get in in other sports.

Speaker 4 (21:39):
Yeah, okay, what have you learned about the community, Just.

Speaker 14 (21:46):
How nice it is. I'm such a I'm more of
a small town guy, and Tucson is not a small town.
But to me, it's you know, it's it's got everything
you need so much to do, whether you know, hiking, nature, concerts,
you know, the concert lineups here really, you know, kind

(22:10):
of caught me by by surprise. You know, I'm a
bit of a country guy myself, so we've had some
pretty big artists, artists come through here.

Speaker 12 (22:21):
You know.

Speaker 14 (22:21):
Can't beat the weather, of course, but yeah, I just
I just love Tucson, which is funny because you know,
being having relocated from Phoenix before that, you know, I
feel like a lot of people in the valley kind
of make fun of Tucson. You know. It's kind of
like the little little brother. So I didn't know exactly

(22:44):
what to expect, but yeah, it's kind of become home
for me in short order.

Speaker 4 (22:51):
Well with you guys right now in your off season.
What for those fans that are interested in purchasing season
tickets and starting to get closer to the year, how
do they go about that and where can they go
to that they're interested to purchase those tickets.

Speaker 14 (23:11):
Well, thanks for the question, Troy. Well, you know, now
is a great time because we finally, you know, us
and the thirty one other teams in the league release
their schedule last week, so fans, you know, can finally
check out what that looks like online and see who

(23:31):
we're playing. But fans can place you know, deposits for
season tickets now, as well as ten game flex plans,
which is kind of nice because you know, maybe maybe
thirty six home games is too much. Flex plans kind
of allows you to kind of pick and choose which

(23:53):
games you go to. Single game season tickets we'll be
on sale Labor Day, I believe, so that's coming up,
and we'll also be announcing our promotion schedule soon. So yeah,
you know, after our season ended in April, it's you know,
it was a little quiet for a while, but things

(24:14):
are starting to pick up kind of the back half
of the off season as far as you know, our
schedule announcements free agency just happened, the draft, and you
know we're starting to plan our you know, themed games.
You know, a lot of home games have really fun
themes that fans love. And a couple of notes about

(24:35):
our schedule this year that's a little bit different from
years past. Almost eighty percent of our home games are
on weekends, which is nice because you know, it's kind
of tough to go to games after work or school,
you know, in the middle of the week, so it's
great to have a higher number of games on the weekends.
I think it's twenty eight of our thirty six games,

(24:56):
and we've got a couple of holiday games too. The
day before Thanksgiving we play San Diego. We had a
great two game series against Calgary last year right before Thanksgiving.
I think those were our highest attended games of the year.
It was great just because there was a lot of

(25:17):
family and people who are visiting town for the holiday.
And for the first time in a while, we have
a game on Black Friday as well at three pm,
which is really our only matinee game of the season,
so that'll just be an awesome sports day in general.

(25:37):
You know, it's typically a big rivalry weekend in day
you know, right after Thanksgiving at a su might be
playing you of that day too, if I'm not mistaken.
So that'll just be an Epics sports day on the calendar.
And we also have a game on New Year's Eve
as well, So do you.

Speaker 2 (25:56):
Have a you were just at the office at El Tour.
Do you have one on that only second in November
because it's always busy.

Speaker 15 (26:02):
Downtown, I'm sorry to say the twenty second.

Speaker 2 (26:07):
Yeah, of November, we do.

Speaker 14 (26:13):
Yeah, So that weekend before Thanksgiving, we're hosting the Colorado
Eagles on Saturday and Sunday. So Sunday will be in
an earlier start four pm, so that's kind of nice.

Speaker 2 (26:27):
Yeah, okay, four pm. Oh man, that's at the end
of the ride, so okay in town.

Speaker 14 (26:35):
Yeah, so that'll be a tough matchup. You know, Colorado
won the Pacific last year and made it, uh you know,
made it pretty far in in the playoffs. So you know,
they we won a few games against them last year,
but you know, hopefully we can uh kind of exact

(26:55):
some revenge this year.

Speaker 2 (26:57):
So you have you talked a little about this already
three months before the season starts, right, is it a
down ish time? Although you did say you released the
schedule a while back and then the full schedule too.
Is it kind of downtime? Is it kind of just
getting ready for what's ahead.

Speaker 15 (27:15):
That's a good question.

Speaker 14 (27:16):
I would say things are picking picking back up. You know,
there's only so much you can do and plan when
you don't have your schedule exactly confirmed. So you know,
the the vacations are are out of the way, I think,
you know, throughout the front office. So yeah, we've got
a lot of work to do too, you know, plan

(27:37):
you know, some are exciting community events and uh and
theme nights you know, to make this tenth anniversary season
the best one yet. But in terms of you know,
big events on on the calendar, you know that that'd
be Fan Fast. We don't have an exact date yet.

(27:58):
That'll sort of you.

Speaker 15 (27:59):
Know, have to align with training camp, but that'll.

Speaker 14 (28:02):
Be in that'll be in late September.

Speaker 2 (28:04):
Okay, anything do you want to add before you leave,
before we get you out here.

Speaker 14 (28:11):
Yeah, just just you know, it's you know, it's hard
to believe this. Uh, this franchise is kind of coming
gone right, not gone, but you know the tenth year
is is is coming up? Uh, you know I remember
back to you know, I mentioned, uh, I graduated college
in twenty sixteen, so I was and then I was

(28:33):
up in the Northwest, you know, I was following hockey
and remember when the Roadrunners came in. So, you know,
we really want to honor you know, the decade that
we've you know, had so far in the Desert, and
I think we have some pretty cool.

Speaker 2 (28:51):
Plans lined up to.

Speaker 14 (28:53):
Sort of combine some of that history with you know
former uh you know, former players, coaches, etc. Who have
been a big part of the organization's history.

Speaker 2 (29:04):
Yeah, okay, well, Chance, we appreciate your time. Enjoy yourself.
We'll we see you soon. I'll probably go down to
the office on one of these days.

Speaker 14 (29:12):
Steve, that'd be great. Thanks so much for having me.
Really appreciate it.

Speaker 4 (29:16):
Okay, great, thanks Chance, clements from the two sound Roadrunners.

Speaker 4 (33:39):
So another question? I want some.

Speaker 2 (33:41):
Maybe callers or two or three? Uh So. The Effect
did a story on the top college basketball programs the
last twenty five years, not programs, teams.

Speaker 4 (33:51):
Arizonann to make that list? Top whatp twenty five? Top
twenty five in the last twenty five years? Yeah, yeah,
top twenty five.

Speaker 2 (33:58):
He give me that team.

Speaker 4 (34:00):
Oh, just a team, just just the one team.

Speaker 2 (34:02):
Yes.

Speaker 4 (34:03):
The twenty thirteen fourteen Arizona Wildcats.

Speaker 2 (34:05):
Who was that?

Speaker 4 (34:06):
That's what? That's what?

Speaker 2 (34:09):
Who is that? The injury to the Brandon Act? Okay, okay, okay.

Speaker 4 (34:14):
I think that that makes that list?

Speaker 2 (34:16):
You agree, yep? Okay, So I give.

Speaker 4 (34:18):
You last last twenty five years. Also, that would be
much higher on the list the two thousand and two
thousand and one Arizona Wildcats, correct, which would be a
potentially top ten of those.

Speaker 2 (34:28):
Good good point, and that's my better team. I think
their team for sure the best team you ever hear, No,
none of them make the.

Speaker 4 (34:33):
Top twenty five teams. They didn't, did.

Speaker 2 (34:36):
Not you, sud I think they went with all the
championship teams in terms of see that and that's not
that's not the way to do it. But in fact,
the number one team, the number one team was the
Duke team that beat the two thousand and one team.

Speaker 4 (34:50):
Of course, oh I don't think they are yeah.

Speaker 2 (34:52):
So that was the number one team overall, which did
make sin that they were pretty very good with dun
Levy and oh those guys.

Speaker 4 (35:01):
So you would have to put that Arizona team number two.

Speaker 2 (35:03):
Shane Batty, Jay Williams, Dunlevy and Carlos fantastically talented. But
if you're going to lose close to duke, they probably
should be in the top twenty five.

Speaker 4 (35:13):
At some point, they should be on the top ten. Yeah. So,
and what about what about the team that lost to Wisconsin,
They should probably be in the top ten. Well, what
you're talking about, that's what you're talking about. No, they
on their list. They won't be on there because they
lost the duke in the National Championship game, so they
won't be on the list.

Speaker 2 (35:30):
But but they were they Well I thought you said
it was just no no, no, no, no that you
say that they were on that list.

Speaker 4 (35:36):
They were.

Speaker 2 (35:37):
I have to find it, But go ahead.

Speaker 4 (35:40):
They would be near like that fourteen sixteen the Wisconsin team.

Speaker 2 (35:46):
Yeah, yeah, they're very good. They were good. And if
your team, the twenty thirteen to fourteen team lost to them,
last second shot, blah blah blah, that's another.

Speaker 4 (35:56):
Team that could be on there. Yep, Wiscins. I'm trying
to go through. They have a duke teams, of course,
because you know everybody has duke teams. I'm I'm honestly
surprised Florida doesn't have the number one team all the
time time of that past twenty five years. Yeah, jo King, Noah,

(36:18):
that was like six o seven.

Speaker 2 (36:21):
Covered that game.

Speaker 4 (36:23):
God, I mean they went back to back to basketball
and football during that era, right right, interest didn't win it, right, No, cancer,
they're number twenty thirty and two.

Speaker 2 (36:36):
They're going more by record.

Speaker 4 (36:37):
See in that Memphis team out and Derek Rose was
a phenomenal player.

Speaker 2 (36:41):
Wisconsin thirty six and four. Frank Kominski, Sam Dicker Angel
twenty two. Yeah, I means the Duke twenty two.

Speaker 3 (36:53):
Yeah, you're on the the athletic Yeah, I'm looking at
that right now.

Speaker 2 (36:57):
Yeah, you can kind of go through a too.

Speaker 15 (36:58):
Well.

Speaker 2 (36:58):
I'm want to hear too. The Kansas team that didn't
play in twenty twenty because of the COVID they're twenty five.

Speaker 4 (37:07):
How do you have them on the list? Yeah, mostly record.
U A's a team with the record. Wasn't that great
because Bobby had passed, Luke had been out for a while. Yeah,
I think they last eight nine games, ten to six games,
and they played Duke, but that was to me easy
the best team ever here. Yeah, I agree, most talented
turns of talent. Yeah, didn't make this list. They should,

(37:30):
I mean they should.

Speaker 2 (37:31):
They didn't get mentioned because they were lost of the
best team all the time. Yeah, in the last twenty
five years.

Speaker 4 (37:35):
I mean, if you have that team the best team
all the time, then that Arizona team should be in
the top ten. That's how I look at it. Villanova
twenty one from twenty five, fifteen to sixteen, I think
they lost to the beat North Carolina. Let me ask
the question, because if they're on the list, then you
could argue that Arizona team should be on the list.
The Kemba Walker Yukon team. Did that make this list?

(38:00):
I think so.

Speaker 2 (38:01):
I think so Memphis. Memphis did win it, but you
had Derrick Rose and Chrys Douglas Roberts.

Speaker 4 (38:05):
Because so that Yukon team is on the list. Arizona
came within a last second shot of beating them twice
in that LA's what five minutes five second span. I
want to put that Arizona team on this top twenty
five list. But if you have that Yukon team on
that list. See, that's my problem with only mostly picking champions, because.

Speaker 2 (38:26):
And that's what they did. There were non champions too.

Speaker 4 (38:29):
But you got to call Okay, sorry, hello.

Speaker 2 (38:32):
You're on the air. Andine on the ball.

Speaker 4 (38:32):
Who's this?

Speaker 15 (38:34):
See?

Speaker 2 (38:34):
What's up?

Speaker 15 (38:35):
Vic?

Speaker 2 (38:35):
Vic? What's word?

Speaker 10 (38:37):
Sorry?

Speaker 2 (38:37):
What's going on?

Speaker 4 (38:38):
How you doing? Vic?

Speaker 15 (38:40):
Fantastic? Hey, I just want to throw a couple of
little opinions in there. One. That All Star Game was fantastic.
I watched it from the home run derby on Monday
to yesterday. The Indian was hading me on the edge
of my feet, and even my daughter said, Dad, you
can tell it's good when the bolt dugouts are are

(39:00):
jumping like little kids when they were twelve years old.

Speaker 2 (39:03):
So that the way the ended it was fine with you.

Speaker 15 (39:06):
Oh my god, it was so exciting. And like I said,
my daughter X and Steve, when when the when those
grown men that are making millions that we've been talking
about for two weeks are jumping up and down like
little kids.

Speaker 14 (39:19):
You know, it's cool.

Speaker 4 (39:20):
It's good for an All Star Game, But I guarantee
you don't want that in the regular season.

Speaker 15 (39:25):
No, of course, not, of course not. Heck no, no,
all start.

Speaker 2 (39:30):
You at the end of your seat. What the hell
makes you happy?

Speaker 15 (39:34):
Scorber hit three Scorber hit three home runs on three pitches.

Speaker 2 (39:39):
Who does that well against the seventy five mile per
hour pitch.

Speaker 14 (39:43):
Yeah, but he was.

Speaker 15 (39:44):
I mean even that the other guys didn't do it.

Speaker 2 (39:46):
I'm going to go to hell for all my criticisms.
But what the hell you mean?

Speaker 15 (39:49):
No, well, I have another little criticism, and I think
it was Richard that called in. And I don't mean
the same anything bad or anything, and I'm not but.

Speaker 4 (40:01):
But here we go.

Speaker 15 (40:02):
Kids, these kids today, and you know it's just because
he said he said something like they haven't done nothing.
And Steve, you know how hard your kid worked at soccer?
My kids, my kids had to drive all over southern California,
all over the country. And they were not elite. They

(40:22):
were d two kids, very good, very good, and we
played against the best. But to to I can't tell
you how many weddings and birthdays Noah Flafida and uh
and all the softball and Caleb Love had missed because
of basketball, football and just putting in the work. He
hear these kids and their parents. I can tell you

(40:46):
yesterday I thought it was so cool. And when Mason's
white dad said, hey, when he started getting a little good,
I took him to George and I'm like, well, you
played D one baseball, you couldn't like you couldn't handle his.

Speaker 4 (40:57):
Hitting or whatever.

Speaker 15 (40:58):
But that just shows you work that these kids put
in Mason, I can guarantee you missed every birthday and
every wedding in his family.

Speaker 2 (41:06):
Sure you had the second point. What was your second point?

Speaker 15 (41:09):
That the ball Star game? With my first second?

Speaker 2 (41:13):
So yesterday we had Blake U he did you like
the hitting the batting home runs? Because the angles and
all that stuff were bad?

Speaker 15 (41:25):
No?

Speaker 14 (41:26):
I mean I agree with it nowadays. I mean, didn't
you say that I agree with it?

Speaker 3 (41:32):
Okay, okay, because Blake Blake said the car angles sucked
on the on the.

Speaker 15 (41:41):
Yeah, and he's right, that's what you dot. I thought
you meant launching and all that stuff. No, no, it
was bad. So they they picked up the hitter and
then they tried to pick up a ball going out
and he's so he's right, yeah, all right. But like
I said, I just wanted to throw that in there
that these kids just work their kale offs. I mean

(42:03):
even when they sucked sometimes they still work their kale offs.

Speaker 2 (42:07):
I figure, do you just want to call and say
hello to Troy another? He's like, O her, do you I?

Speaker 15 (42:12):
He is, I got to flip a coin on who
I want to see more. Thanks, all right, see you guys.

Speaker 2 (42:22):
I understand what it was Bill who called her other
Bill I talked about they haven't don anything yet, and
they really haven't. I mean, they're coming here, they're going
to make two hundred two fifty whatever they're going to
make on the revenue share.

Speaker 4 (42:32):
In terms of imp impact on the university. I get
what he's saying in terms of haven't done anything yet,
but in terms of what Vick is saying, the works
that they get there to get to that point one
you've done something.

Speaker 2 (42:45):
Both can be true at the same time, and this
is the case.

Speaker 4 (42:48):
But I also get kind of down the middle where Okay,
you don't want to do that. Well, let's be honest.
People were getting paid for a long time. Now it's
just all out in the open. If you want to
be a I headed a football program, competitive basketball program,
you can't just sit there and say, oh, well, we're
not gonna you're gonna have to pay. Sorry. It's just
the way it is, right and it's been that way

(43:09):
for a very long time.

Speaker 2 (43:10):
We'll see what happens with the revenue shore here. Uh
and the extra actual extra money that the ticket holders
are gonna have to pay right per ticket and we'll
see how that goes. For a program that needs people
to show up in the seats.

Speaker 4 (43:23):
Needs people to show up in the seats. And not
only that, because I think the first couple of games
were Brennan because everybody was excited about everybody coming back.
Even with them showing up, they were gone by the time. Yeah,
that's another big So sure of course staying you mean
going to stay.

Speaker 2 (43:40):
Yeah, but now you need bus in the seats because
when the tickets and then the concessions and all that stuff,
that's always been a problem.

Speaker 4 (43:46):
You've probably gun since you were a kid. Yeah, your
dad's probably taken you and seeing.

Speaker 2 (43:51):
That all the time. And I'm sure you were.

Speaker 3 (43:54):
You in the zoo for a while before you became
Even even before I was a student, I was in
the zoo.

Speaker 4 (44:00):
It's go ahead, my bad. No, No, it's embarrassing, it is, truly.

Speaker 3 (44:05):
When they stay for about one quarter, even if they're up,
they're gone. Yeah, other places to be, other things to do. Yeah,
students for sure, other some fans they have that same mindset,
but no one, No one stays.

Speaker 2 (44:20):
So and that's been for a while now.

Speaker 4 (44:23):
Things don't change. I mean, see when I grew up
going to games as a kid, as a fan, I
went at the worst. One of the worst parts of
Arizona football history, of the Macovic era is when I
can start remembering games. But during that Mike Stoops era,
when they got good, they were filling up the stadiums
during big games. They did have fans in the stands,

(44:43):
people were staying. The Zona Zoo was one of the
better student sections in the Pac Ten during that era.
I think the biggest difference is you have so much
other going, other things going on, because back then going
to games, people weren't on their phones. They're watching the
game people, or they had the little head sets listening
to the game. I just think the tension span of

(45:04):
a fan has gone considerably downhill. Well, and I don't
know how you fix that.

Speaker 2 (45:12):
We're we're talking about boring, boring, oh who saw it
was the All Star Yeah, and talking about how uh
just oh yeah, right, right for don't watch it or whatever? No,
And I agree, But how do you fix it? That's
whole thing, that's the big question. How not to be bored?
Are you? You go to Major League Baseball games because

(45:32):
you follow it right, Yeah, I mean the games are
what two thirty now?

Speaker 4 (45:36):
Yeah, okay, three four hours, which I was fine with
that too. Yeah, you're going for entertainment. Yeah, sometimes it's boring,
but you know you're going for a reason. Yeah, I
don't know. Yeah, heck, I've seen baseball games before the
x t rainding rules happened with the runner on base
fans betting on every single pitch. Oh yeah, yeah, oh
this that Okay, come on, how many times of all

(45:58):
of Auden we saw each other?

Speaker 2 (46:00):
But maybe one? Excuse me? During the game, some people
were yelling and screaming when they covered whatever it was
the seven points, hit the shots and then in this
right in front of you in the stands late in.

Speaker 3 (46:11):
The game, you have students who bet and they kill
Love his late three pointer and then they hit the
over right.

Speaker 4 (46:18):
And affairs on a basketball. With the way Tommy Lloyd's
offenses are, especially at the beginning, it was always picking
the over the fans and you you would see them
the zone a zoo, the kids that were picking the
over of that game. Just where the world is now?

Speaker 2 (46:34):
Okay, I s we got about five minutes, about six okay,
anybody we could take another call, if you'd like to
call five.

Speaker 4 (46:39):
Two oh four one sixty h two points real quick.

Speaker 3 (46:43):
Uh, I did I think it was Vic who said
reducing or maybe someone else for reducing the stadium because
when they had that the north end zone under construction,
I think it was rich Rod's first year.

Speaker 4 (46:57):
Uh, that stadium was loud, even even in Richard's first year. Yeah,
I thought it was kind of empty. Bit. I think
it's because you saw all that empty space.

Speaker 3 (47:06):
Yeah, you thought that way. It felt empty. But when
they need to get loud, it got loud.

Speaker 2 (47:11):
Yeah. And they were kind of an upstart then too.
They beat Oklahoma States here, Yeah, and they were kind
of good the USC game.

Speaker 4 (47:19):
You wouldn't think them to be good, and they were
pretty good.

Speaker 14 (47:21):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (47:22):
And I think it was coming off of that Mike
Scoops era where they were still o putting fans in
the stands.

Speaker 2 (47:27):
Wouldn't they be just easier just to post some of
the top make it.

Speaker 4 (47:30):
I think that's the biggest thing is because up way
up high it's hardly filled.

Speaker 2 (47:35):
Yeah, right, that's what and not to be uh go
ariz a little ball on you, because that's what they do, right,
They make it smaller and cozy, But that's what Arizona
should possibly do and maybe sell those top rows with
sponsorships and have.

Speaker 4 (47:51):
You know, that's the cheaper way of just cutting it off,
right and you get some revenue from it, yea.

Speaker 2 (47:56):
And not that anybody would do that. How much they
would charge, who knows, but you know, put in a
nice little canvas sponsored by whomever.

Speaker 4 (48:03):
Yeah, I mean, And another thing that they had to
take care of. And I know Desires brought up the idea,
but she was so far behind in terms of catching
up on the deficit and focused on that is naming
rights for the stadium.

Speaker 3 (48:16):
That would be would be would you want that for
the football stadium? Possibly you don't change.

Speaker 4 (48:22):
No, not changing name though, but like I don't know,
like Desert Diamond, Desert Diamond Stadium at Arizona Football whatever.

Speaker 2 (48:32):
That's what we're talking about.

Speaker 4 (48:33):
We're talking not completely like McHale It would still be
McHale Center, but I don't know, like a Banner Health Court. Yeah,
well it's you I'm saying like that type of line,
something like that, like code like stadium, like the Broncos
with Mile High when they moved to the new stadium,

(48:55):
it was in Vesco Field at Mile High they got
this sponsorship.

Speaker 2 (49:00):
Yeah, yeah, I get that. I get that changing the
name completely like to do it.

Speaker 4 (49:06):
Well Spargo Yeah no, no, no, no, I'm just saying
that there's a revenue opportunity there that, especially for the
football stadium. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (49:13):
If I'm a die hard guy, I wouldn't want that
to happen, Like that's what you're saying. Yeah, not Michael,
Possibly because Del Sol Arena. Yeah yeah, yeah, I mean,
come on, who else is going to have the money
to do it? Yeah, they don't sponsors.

Speaker 4 (49:30):
No, But I'm just saying for the football stadium in particular,
even if it changed from Arizona Stadium. It doesn't matter
what you're saying. It doesn't matter. It's not Michael.

Speaker 14 (49:41):
No.

Speaker 2 (49:41):
I guess if you're gonna get the money for it
and you're gonna be okay with it, what does it matter.
It's not like you've Well what people, my people, my age,
maybe yours, is where you gonna go Arizona Stadium. They're
not gonna say, you know, MetLife Stadium.

Speaker 4 (49:53):
They don't.

Speaker 2 (49:54):
They don't care where you going, Arizona Stateium. Where's that change?
His name?

Speaker 4 (49:59):
Yeah? You know what, it's a.

Speaker 2 (50:00):
Yeah, I get it.

Speaker 3 (50:02):
But back to that list we were talking about Tea. Yeah,
so you're running through the list. Yeah, I was running
through it. They have this year's Florida team at thirteen,
but then the Duke, this year's Duke with Cooper at eleven.

Speaker 4 (50:15):
Yeah. See, this is flawed. This is flawed.

Speaker 2 (50:19):
The best team Arizona's ever ever had, in my mind,
deserves to be on this list.

Speaker 4 (50:23):
Oh that, I'm going to be honest. They would have
beat that Cooper flag team. Oh yeah, yeah, it would
have been a good game, but they would one. They
would have twelve fifty out of ten out of pick
Arizona eight times.

Speaker 2 (50:33):
Yeah, and that Gilbert Richard Luke Lauren. Yeah, I agree.

Speaker 4 (50:37):
Against Florida ten out of ten. Maybe they lose one.
I don't think that either team was that great.

Speaker 2 (50:42):
Yeah, I don't. I didn't see any comments. I don't
know if you can't too, But I'm sure they're going
to be criticized for some of the teams that didn't
make that list. They had Maryland with Dixon and uh
in that team in two thousand and.

Speaker 4 (50:53):
Two, I think it was, but I'm sure they had
the Kamerlo Anthony Syracuse team with Kam Warwick. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
I'm trying to try to see you. Yeah, you gotta
scroll through it. That Maryland Yeah, I mean I don't
remember much from that. They weren't Quan Dixon. Were they
that great?

Speaker 2 (51:09):
They were pretty good. That was after the Duke year.
They were doing pretty good, I think acc Yeah.

Speaker 4 (51:14):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (51:15):
But there was the twenty twenty Gonzaga team at eighteen
and losing the title.

Speaker 2 (51:23):
Yeah that was was that twenty twenty twenty one? Yeah,
that was with Suggs the last second shots blah blah blah.
See ez wona beats them by twenty I mean that, Yeah,
they beats them bad.

Speaker 4 (51:32):
It was very good. I'm gonna be honest that twenty
thirteen fourteen team that lost to Wisconsin would have ran
the four with that team, yeah, because they they're defensive.
In my opinion, that's the best defensive team I've ever seen.

Speaker 2 (51:45):
And they were good short of actually getting hurt, right, Yeah, yeah,
even then, they were pretty good. I know that we're
gonna try to get what's his name? My up were
intern that was mentioning before Kevin on the show because
he did something on Twitter. Yeah, the what ifs, the
what IFFs. You know, what if actually didn't get hurt,
guess who won that year. Duke won that year, So
they would have had a hard time. I mean, you

(52:05):
could wish all you want, but their circumstances too. I
do think Arizona would be Duke that with that team, well,
with Ashley not again in hurt.

Speaker 4 (52:14):
Yeah, I don't know, but it would have been a.

Speaker 2 (52:19):
I think Arizona circumstances of events. I mean, they they
have to play really well and they would have been motivated.
Sean would have, you know, had to get to the
final four. It there's a lot of it if what if?

Speaker 11 (52:29):
Right?

Speaker 2 (52:29):
Okay, hey, thanks for joining me today.
