Faith and Gold. Let's here's thehost of Faith and Gold, the voice
of the Minnesota Vikings, Paul Allen. It's Faith in Goal thirty nine and
(00:33):
it's in the air. Chris Carrfrom K one O two Radio is here
very shortly and K one O twoRadio is in the Twin Cities. Happy
to have him as a guest today. And I'm excited for everybody to meet
this Christian, the one teammate hereat iHeart Minneapolis with whom I pray and
chat about the Bible. And thankyou very much for listening when you do,
(00:55):
and tell others please. At theend of the equation, the goal
of this podcast is just another partof the week to think about God,
his Son Jesus, and daily guidanceby the Holy Spirit. I am Christian
and don't believe in religions that requireman humans us to check boxes to get
(01:17):
to heaven, or better known asworks based religions. So why because that's
what God's Holy Bible teaches. Idon't believe confessing sins to a priest gets
me to heaven. Thus, asthe Bible teaches, we repent of our
sins daily and do so to God, not man. The overwhelming evidence shows
(01:38):
Jesus Christ was the only godly manin the history of the world, and
that's the baseline example for all wehope to discuss on faith and God.
Christianity is the only faith based approachthat does not put reliance on ourselves to
get to heaven. And that's abeautiful thing, the only one, and
(02:00):
it stands alone loudly and proudly. There's much more on this in coming weeks
of faith and Call. Because inno way do I believe like cool.
I believe in Jesus, so I'mgoing to heaven. Guess it's okay to
roll out there and break all tencommandments fifteen times each day. That's not
the case either. But a true, dedicated belief in Christ, understanding of
(02:21):
why God permitted the pain and sacrificeof the cross, the significance of his
resurrection three days later, and adaily relationship and belief in the Holy Spirit,
which is God given demand fifty dayslater and what is known as the
Pentecost, that's the answer. Imean, if you can tell me there's
(02:44):
nothing we as man can do froma works based standpoint to find eternity.
The Bible teaches you are in that'snot my opinion. The Bible teaches you're
in I also believe all over theOld Testament the exact mesiae we know as
Jesus was foretold via the prophets andreferences to like quote the Angel of the
(03:07):
Lord end quote from Genesis to Malachi. Indeed, is Jesus Christ or God
is Man? Next Faith and GoalI plan to go down that road,
starting with the Book of Judges andthe story of Samson as in Samson and
Delilah. But now let's meet Kone two morning show host Chris Cards Chris
(03:29):
Carr and Company. Who is saltof the earth? What does that mean
to a Christian? Think about it. You are salt of the earth.
You Christians are not should be.Are salt preserving what's good of the earth.
Our world is in decay. Learnmore via Twitter about Chris at Chris
Carr one zero two. So shinethose belt buckles and dust off your favorite
(03:53):
ten gallon hat. Chris Carr andCompany rule the roost for my taste with
country music, flag and sometimes Faithand Faith in Goal thirty nine starts right
naw, Faith and Goal. Sowhere are you from and what led you
(04:15):
to radio? You know? Ican like my answer, Paine, I'm
from Madison, Wisconsin. I'm sorry, Is it okay? Twenty two years
into it? I mean, theborder battle still matters, but into this
recording, one team's two and four, the other is two and three.
So bigger problems than the shoe sizecontest. That's a border battle. But
I got you though, and Idon't I don't participate like I did when
(04:36):
I was a kid. There's abigger deal. It's just there's there's bigger
things, as we all know.So I'm from Madison, and I was
going into the military, in themilitary intelligence, and I had a full
ride and I had a thing inmy arm right. I saw coroidosis they
called it at the time, somecard kind of funky disease that the Army
(04:57):
would not take. So I hadto b game time decision. So plan
B going to acting. I liketo do acting. I don't want to
wait tables. I don't want towait tables, and I'm not tall enough
and that kind of stuff. ButI'd say I couldn't do it. Santa
Monica, you were there, Yeah, yeah, I can't do that.
(05:18):
And I've always loved radio. Andwhen I was a kid, I used
to play disc jockey and I lovew KRP in Cincinnati. Remember I'm grabbing
straws right now. I mean I'veI had a plan. I was going
to UW with uh, you know, with with the military, the GI
bill, and now there's nothing.I had a conversation with my dad,
(05:38):
he was going through divorce with mymom. He's like, we get we
have no money. We have tomake a decision quick, and I chose
broadcasting, and I got involved withthe broadcast school, not the one here
it was. It was Madison MediaInstitute back then and which is now defunct,
has been for a few years afterCOVID, and and here I am.
And I don't regret one single secof anything when I did back then.
(06:02):
But I don't know well w kRP and Cincinnati for the new schoolers,
I mean the TV show. Ithink the lady's name was Lennie Anderson.
Venus Flytrap. I mean, whodidn't want to get into radio and
spin hot stacks of wax and beeither what was the doctor, Johnny Fever,
Doctor Johnny Fever or Venus fly Trap, right one or the other.
(06:24):
I wanted to be Andy Travis.Yeah, in all, a little bit
the program director. You know,I just dude, I just love that
show. It's still one of thegreatest shows on and sometimes jobs in the
in this business, you know wherewhere I'll remind people in the entertainment business
or media radio, TV, playby play stuff like that. Lines are
long and those jobs are hard tofind. So if I get the name
(06:44):
wrong, I apologize even being lessNessman and calling it a career. Not
the worst thing in the world. So so just don't be herb tarlek Man.
You're you know he was loud,Okay, So so speaking of your
and and just a tentacle here andkind of you know what what what just
came up? And and twenty twentythree. Really over the last ten years,
(07:08):
it's like you I described you asthe host of Chris Carr and Company,
uh with with Kaya and with SamSanzevie, but that also has a
disc jockey roll to it. Correct, absolutely Okay. Well, why I
bring it up is like for thoselistening now thinking about you know, I
want to be a DJ, orI want to host a show on K
(07:30):
one o two or let's put let'sput talk to the side K one o
two Cities ninety seven KDWB something likethat. It's not as easy as it
used to be, right because ofvoice tracking. Yeah, that's there's there's
no farm anymore, man, youknow what I mean, there's there.
I don't even know in some ofthe smaller markets if they have opportunities like
they used to. But you know, I started in Fort Walton Beach,
(07:53):
Florida. It was the lowest ratedmarket in all of radio markets, right,
wow and ud ad you start trulyat the bottom, at the very
very bottom. But it was ajob that was out there and I took
it. I didn't care where Iwas going to go. It was there
or I remember, Liberal Kansas. Is that a city? Is that a
town? I don't know, LiberalKansas. I remember the little thing and
(08:13):
I called from them out of schooland it's one or the other. I'm
like, all right, you gottago to the beach, dude, it's
the beach. So to Kansas tornadoes, go to the beach and went.
I went to Fort Walton Beach andit was a one of the hardest trips
of my life. I took mybrother's old seventy two blue Malibu. It
(08:35):
was huge. It was like theseventy two seventy three, seventy four.
This truck car was so big,and I drove through a tornado in Memphis
to get there. And you talkabout a praying experience. I was barely
out the door driving from Madison.I get down around Memphis. The sky
goes dark. I can't see anything, and I got under a bridge somehow,
and I prayed, and I saidGod, I was praying beforehand,
(08:58):
Hey, can you help me getdown here. I just I'm just starting
my career. I don't know whatI'm doing. I need you and I
just need to get down to FortWalton Beach. I'm run a little late.
And then time goes by and atornado comes by and it wrecked all
of my plans with everything, andall of a sudden, the sky broke
(09:20):
and the rain stopped, and Ifound out I'm underneath a bridge and there
are cars turned over and everything allaround me. It was an amazing experience,
and I'm like, be with them, Yeah, take care of them.
Emergency vehicles are around. Please,God, take care of these people.
And I cannot thank you enough forwhat you just did for me.
Wow, right, what a beautifulSo that's my story going to Fort Walton
(09:41):
Beach. Right, Okay, wellI finally made it. Well now I
believe you began at K one two. I'm not even going to guess it,
but I know you know, givenwe've worked in the same what Shamrock
Clear Channel, am FM. iHeartfamily as long as we have together,
Me at KFA N and you atK one O two. You left,
(10:03):
and I believe you went to Cincinnatiand then you came back. Yes,
So if you were to guess whatthe purpose in God's will was with driving
that, what would you guess itwas? It's entirely God's will. And
I remember having this opportunity to goto Cincinnati. It was a it was
a tremendous opportunity. I knew that, and it was going to challenge me
(10:28):
in a different role from doing afternoonsto going down to do the mornings.
I know I wanted a challenge.I needed a challenge, and man,
did I get one when I gotdown there. I mean I did.
I got a challenge, and ina way just I number one, all
of a sudden, I'm waking upearly in the morning, way different,
shoved into a different shift. Iwas. The first two weeks down there,
(10:50):
I was living in a hotel underthe Brent Spence Bridge, so I
didn't sleep for two weeks. So, dude, it was not trying to
do a wolves beast, but whenyou lose sleep and then all of a
sudden, you're not eating, Sonow you're not sleeping, you're not eating.
And it was a state of depressionlike I have never experienced in my
life. I mean, I wasnever ever going to consider ending myself,
(11:11):
but if a bus were to volunteerlyhit me, I would have taken it.
It was bad, dude, itwas. And then my wife and
family came down. We got outof that particular, I got out of
that motel and got to a newplace, started sleeping, started getting better,
kept praying relentlessly, and all ofa sudden started seeing the lights,
started feeling a reason to be there, started relationships started changing, and all
(11:37):
these new people around me, andstarted forming bonds with people and had a
great ride there. And then parents'health went downhill, My wife's parents' health
went downhill. This was within fivesix years later, and it's Greg gave
me an opportunity to come back home. They actually reached out. I didn't
ask, they reached out and bythe grace of God, does it always
(12:00):
work that way? Why he calledme back here and I've worn my faith
on my sleeve on the year,my entire career, and I credit God,
and I'll say it here for puttingme back here at the right place,
at the right time. God's gracejust so powerful. And what a
wonderful, wonderful story that you justshared about the just circumnavigating life and spiritual
(12:22):
warfare. And the bad guy isRevelation twelve teaches he gets to win on
earth and there sounded like he wastaking some double's along the line. But
at the end of the equation, the ultimate victory is the recognition in God
and Christ and the Holy Spirit andand the will even though we can't understand
the purpose sometimes And that's just whatyou shared, and I thought it was
(12:43):
so beautiful. In fact, withChris's Twitter as I mentioned earlier at Chris
Carr one zero two at Chris carone zero two, most recent post I
saw this morning was actually from ChrisCarr and Company on K one two and
it's honest Twitter page. It hasmore than this, but it just it
said faith over fear. Anytime Isee that specifically with a secular or or
(13:09):
of the Earth radio show type situation. It jumps out at me because it's
infrequent. So like, what guidedChris Carr and company to that topic today?
Today? It was Tony's you know, Tony Mansmith from KTIS and he
used to work here. He wasa guest because Kay is on her honeymoon
right now, so he was afilling guest today. We've had fillings all
day and he's very open about hisfaith. And I'm like, Tony,
(13:33):
we got you here today. Notthat I wouldn't go there with anybody.
We had a wonderful Catholic girl onwith us yesterday, right, we could
have done it, but different subjectmatter, and Tony, I'm like,
let's go, man, Let's talkabout you know, faith over fear.
Wow, and oh absolutely on ourpodcast, which is devoted to you know,
just talking about anything and everything, but and a lot of it comes
(13:56):
down to our faith. I thinkevery couple of weeks we really can go
down the avenue of faith on ourpodcast. So Tony just he was very
free and open, and I justfigured with him being in the room,
it's obvious. You know, hewent to Northwestern College. He loves talking
about his faith, travels and hisjourney, and so he went there and
then basically, in just a quicksynopsis, it's like, we don't have
(14:22):
control. We think we're in control. We talked about it in the podcast
and on the air today. Youcan grab the reins as tight as you
want and all you want, andI'm gonna go this way. This is
the way I'm going to go,and nobody is ever going to steer me
away. And who Yeah, youryour land on your butt and you're off
the ball right, You're that ridehas changed immensely and you don't always know
(14:43):
why, and you don't know whereyou're going. But man, I'm telling
you you gotta you have to enjoythe journey and getting back to since he
real quick for just a second.Two. When you get in such a
deep state of ick as I havebeen at times, and I was there
really from a lack of sleep mostly, but you become you may think you're
(15:07):
further away from God. I'm tellingyou you're not. You may feel like
your conscience is pulling at you andyou're going in all the wrong directions,
and you could easily do a lotof things to get nasty and make your
life easier and maybe get medication.I'm not saying that. You know,
people, if it's medication or thatkind of thing and its prescription, talk
(15:28):
to your doctors. All right, that's my disclaimer. But for me,
I felt all of a sudden, for being so far away from anything good
and feeling mired in the ick andalmost hell like state, I was actually
closer to Jesus and he literally pulledmy hand and pulled me out of the
muck. And it was not overnightbecause our timeline isn't like the heavenly timeline.
(15:52):
We made time God didn't. Godmakes everything, but time is a
man made construct, right, No, it's God's timeline. Yeah, God's
in control of everything. You knowthat. You know just that Cincinnati story.
I mean, it goes from zeroto one hundred back to zero and
(16:12):
you didn't see it coming. Andwhat I mean is, guys, I'm
saddened because you love it here. You love Sweatburg, the bosses, the
coworkers, everything I'm leaving. Okay, well that's their sadness with that.
But a brilliant opportunity, which legitimatelywas a brilliant opportunity for one way or
another, for you in Cincinnati,so you're excited, but then you get
(16:34):
there and for whatever the reason, you're staying under a bridge where you hear
nothing but cars and trucks and everythingand you can't sleep. Well, that's
evil. So therefore you just lookat the circumnavigation of the truncated part of
that story and it's sadness. YetGlee, I'm leaving. This is going
(16:55):
to be unbelievable. Holy cow, this sucks. Why am I staying here?
Why did they put me here?Father? Why am I here?
And the apostle Paul, I can'tremember where it is, but it's in
one of the epistles, you know. He says that he's at his strongest
when when he's at his weakest. So the Christian, generally speaking, is
at his or her strongest when whenit looks like they're at their weakest.
(17:21):
And that's that's how I would tiethat story together, man, That's how
I felt. I didn't always knowit at the time either, at the
time I'm going with the world, man. Yeah. So, so with
your radio job or radio jobs, you or we inherently live public lives,
So in any way does that putadded pressure on you and or your belief
in Christ. That's an awesome question. I don't know if the word I
(17:47):
mean you nailed it with pressure froma standpoint that I feel obligated to Christ
to share my message with Jesus. But at the same time I look at
it like this is as opposed topressure, this is an added opportunity that
I can share my faith journey withpeople. And it's say flawed journey.
I'm a flawed human and everything aboutme is a center and I feel completely
(18:08):
unworthy. But at the same time, I can share on my radio station,
which is not deemed a non commercialChristian radio station, I can share
my faith freely. I don't geton It's not like every break where I
start with a prayer or anything. But you know what, there's all these
(18:29):
subtle planting of seeds. I cantry to plant little seeds and make it
kind of cool. And what's neatabout that is then you get these phone
calls sporadically and you start to seethe growth of these seeds. When you're
at the fair of these appearances andit's like, hey, I just want
to let you know I appreciate whatyou said about your faith in God.
And I was in a rough spotand that you know the deal. I'm
(18:51):
sure you've heard it over and over. I mean, it's got to be
hard for you sometimes in the middleof a calling a play on the Vikings
game, right, and all ofa sudden, you know there's somebody's down
and injured and it's looking grim andthey're getting off the field but they're breathing
and everything. For you, it'sgot to be hard to just not say
praise Jesus for you know, butyou're you have your own way of putting
(19:14):
it out there. Well. Wherethings have changed for me over the last
three years, whether it's taking partin running a chapel at Canterbury Park and
you came to one of the sermons, very kind of you, or taking
part in what's known as a risewith the guys at Grace Church where like
three four or five thousand people arethere and they have big athletes and it's
a big deal. It's a biggospel sharing deal. Is at the State
(19:37):
Fair, and I'm glad you saidthe Fair because that's where we meet all
forms of humanity. It used tobe, you know, we go to
break nine to noon continues after this, Papa Pa. It used to be.
What do you think of cousins? How long will cousins be? Here?
Is Jefferson better than Moss? KevinWilliams best defensive tackle we've ever had
this side of John Randall. Whateverit used to be one hundred percent,
(20:00):
that it now is eighty percent. Thanks for sharing it, arise with the
guys. I came to the chapelat Canterbury. The gospel was shared and
the Holy Spirit really hit me hard. Thank you for that, Thank you
for faith and goal. That nowis the majority of what I hear from
people. What's interesting, and maybethis is the case with you, Chris,
(20:21):
is they'll come up and they'll whisper, and I'm like, I'm like,
you don't have to whisper. Youcan say it more loudly, but
I understand why you're whispering. Andyou know that's I won't say this,
but like, that's between them andthe Holy Spirit. When the Holy Spirit
is ready for them to share theirlove for what they just shared, they
(20:41):
have no choice. They will shareit on a mountaintop that they don't even
know exists right now. I mean, I've said this before here in other
places, but five years ago Ihadn't read. I hadn't read a word
in the Bible five years ago.I had no idea the significance of Christ
and the Cross and the resurrection andthe forty days after and the Penan.
I had no idea, you know. And but then my whole life changed.
(21:03):
But I didn't change it. Itwas changed by the Holy Spirit.
It was abundantly clear. And andthat subsequently, I think strengthened, like
my relation, our relationship where youknow, it's it's somebody here was like
you you should have Chris Carr onFaith and call. I'm like, wow,
I didn't you know know that thathe was a Christian and and he
(21:23):
enjoys openly talking about it. Andthen all of a sudden, you and
I started talking about it. LikeI said, in the open, there's
one person at the iHeart family withwhom I either pray, talk Hubbackic or
Ruth or Matthew or Philippians in thehallway in quick twitch fashion, ye and
and or hug in the hallway,And it's you, you know. So
(21:45):
the fact that God brought that togetherorganically the way he did, I just
I love moments like that. Ilove it. How with prayer? How
important is prayer to you and whyI think prayers number one in anything and
everything, and I pray constantly throughoutthe day. The one thing I could
(22:06):
probably do is I don't have toalways take my hat off when I'm praying,
but I always do when I'm driving, and it's a distraction, that's
my weird thing. But I prayevery day, all day for everyone.
And so you meet a prayer whereyou're beginning like Heavenly Father or is because
sometimes it's faster when I'm driving JesusGod and praying, or kind of like
(22:29):
you know, it's like you goto your car, Father, thank you
for this beautiful day. Sure, you know, would you consider that a
prayer? I would consider that.Uh, sure, I mean, I
guess that's that'd be a light prayer. But for the most part, though,
I I dive in deeper. Alot of times. I always start
with thank you Jesus for how youhave blessed me in my life. I
always, I believe. I mean, it's just like when you meet somebody,
(22:51):
or when somebody gives you a wonderfulgift, the first thing you always
say is thank you. And Ithink based on this wonderful gift, the
first thing I always say is youhave blessed me with two wonderful kids,
a wonderful wife. Everything that Iasked for when I was out in Baltimore
before I moved to Minneapolis. Youhave fulfilled all of these blessings and then
some and many that I don't know. I have a tremendously broken road,
(23:15):
and I thank you for all ofthose heartbreaks in the past, and thank
you for getting heat to where Iam right now. And on that note,
can you please bring my child homesafely from college this weekend? That
kind of thing, or I've gota kid all playing at basketball practice,
the roads are icy. Please don'thave me just sit and stare at my
phone and find a phone. JustI just know that he's in your hands
(23:36):
and he's in good shape. Canhe bring him home to me safely?
Your will be done. I knowI can't compete with that, but my
will is for my son to behome safely. And if you have something
different in mind, I'll learn tolive with it. But that's what I'm
asking for. And I love you, Jesus, thank you for all your
blessings. I start with a thankyou, and he asked God's not Santa
Claus. That's where a lot ofpeople of the religion get They go off
(23:59):
the rails on how do you possiblybelieve that? Or how do you you
know? With this with God andthat with God and party give us see
and this that and the other thing. It's like, man, until you
read the book, yeah, anduntil you get in with other people maybe
and study the book, I don'tknow if you'll ever really get understand.
Yeah. I don't know your storyand what you probably shared it with your
podcast. You're directing this podcast,so but someday I would like to talk
(24:22):
to you. What really flipped thepage for you? What within the last
five years I was at a Iwent to a Baptist church, and I
had been to church maybe twenty timesin my life. Always believed in God,
always prayed the Lord's prayer, alwayswas the one in southern California,
going to high school, in juniorcollege, walking into Pacific in Newport Beach,
(24:45):
Huntingdon, whatever, Father, thankyou for this, thank you for
this. I just always was thatkid, teen and adult, always prayed,
always said God bless you, anddidn't do it out of obligation.
I just did it. Sure,But until five years ago. I had
no idea that a about the Gospelof Jesus Christ and it being the only
(25:07):
route to Heaven. Okay, soI knew Christ died on the cross.
I knew he was resurrected. Itied it to Easter with my kids,
but I didn't tie the significance oftruly what he had done. So it's
the first time I ever had seena Protestant and Evangelical series. It was
called All Sides of the Savior, done by pastor and doctor Wes Feldner,
(25:30):
who was one of my very bestfriends and my teacher, and we chat
still many times a week. LikeI was meeting with somebody recently at a
caribou this nice man named Mark.I mean, look how God works with
this. This nice man from Woodburynamed Mark, came to the Friday football
feast of Buffalo Wild Wings Oakdale beforeweek one. We start talking about the
Bible. I'm like, here's mynumber. This break's almost over. He
(25:52):
and I get together Caribou and EdenPrairie and whether it's from the Fourth Commandment
to relig into me saying religion isthe righteousness of oneself. Christianity is the
righteousness and one thing and one thingalone, what Jesus Christ did for us.
I mean we were gonna meet forforty five minutes. We talked for
an hour in forty five minutes. So then like from that, there was
(26:12):
a question about observing the Sabbath theway it was shared in the Book of
Exodus and the Ten Commandments. Quicktext to somebody who has a master's in
theology, pastor West. He firesback, well, Jesus became the Sabbath,
and here's you know, here's someexamples, like I think it was
Mark chapter, like Mark chapter twelveor twenty one, verses twenty three to
(26:37):
twenty eight. So all of that. God puts all of that together.
Now, because it's the Bible providesthe answers, but it's like a geometric
equation. The answers are right infront of us. Formulating the proper questions
to get to that answer can bevery, very difficult. So with the
series all sides of the Savior, the first the first one was the burden
of unforgiveness. Passages are popping up, Chris, I mean, it's unbelievable.
(27:02):
It's like there's Matthew. I'm like, okay, I've never heard of
it. Corinthians ruth a backing.I had no idea what's happening, but
it when I left, the feelingI had in my body is a feeling
I never will forget. It neverhas left my body, A stimulation.
I couldn't wait to get back thenext week. So I went the next
(27:22):
week and it was all sides ofthe Savior. The burden of idolatry.
Passages are coming up again. I'mstill not knowing what Philippians is. I'm
not knowing exactly what Leviticus is orDeuteronomy. But then Matthew chapter eleven,
verses twenty eight to thirty popped upand paraphrasing it. It's at the end
of the Sermon on the Mount. It's in the book of Matthew. Jesus
(27:45):
is through the Holy Spirit talking toMatthew, and Matthew's writing it down the
apostle Matthew, and it's come tome all who are heavy laden and weary,
and I will give you rest, take my yoke upon you and learn
from me. Or my heart islowly and my burden is light. And
I'm looking at that thing and juststaring at it, Chris, and I'm
(28:06):
like I don't care if you're anatheist or Billy Graham the Christian. That
that's the most beautifully inviting thing I'veever seen in my life. And I
couldn't stop thinking about it. Sothen I go home and I read it,
and then I read around it,and now I'm starting to read the
Sermon on the Mouth, and nowI'm starting to figure out what the word
be attitude means. And now I'mreading the Beatitudes and blessed this, and
(28:26):
blessed blessed be that. So Godunfurled it for me right there, and
you know it's People will talk abouttestimony, you know what, what's your
testimony? And I don't exactly knowhow to answer that with somebody who's always
believed in God but didn't know thestory of Jesus, which is key,
(28:48):
But I mean, I would guessthat when I learned Jesus and what the
sacrifice on the cross and subsequently theresurrection, and then in First John and
other places in the New Testament, without the Son, you don't have the
Father. Without the Father, youdon't have the son. If you blaspheme
the Holy Spirit, there's no repentancefor that. I mean, all of
(29:08):
it just started overwhelming me and bowlingme over. Man. Then I get
into the Gospel of Matthew chapter sevenand it's like, well, what do
you mean? I gave ten percentof my income. I was part of
prophecy. I did this with thisorphanage. I was on my knees every
single day. And Jesus is like, I never knew you. Yeah,
get out, I'm what geta from? Are you kidding? That was like
(29:32):
the scariest thing that that terrified mefor weeks and months. So now that
I know what I'm looking for,and as the learning continues, I just
the Holy Spirit was flooding me withinformation and epiphanies. And through the journey,
I looked back like you. Ididn't go to college. I had
(29:55):
very very bad parts of my life. I still sin like you, of
course, but I mean it wasa different type of sin my twenties and
thirties. And I look at mywhole the totality of my journey, and
I'm like, there's no way canI have these three jobs unless God keeps
me in his bubble of love fortwenty some odd years. And now I
know why he has grown the followingso big, why the speaking skills and
(30:21):
confidence are where they are. It'stoo organically handle the opportunity to share the
Gospel of Christ. And it hasnothing to do with my speaking skills or
my following or or my verbiage ormy vocabity, nothing but everything, because
it's everything that was given by Him. So that's that's about the only way
to answer that story. When itcomes to it's awesome when it comes to
(30:44):
football calls and stuffs it. Youknow, there are some calls that God's
put me on during the course ofmy career, and you know, it's
like with the Minniapises mirror. Wellthat nine back to oh Ram screaming no
no. Cardinals locked Vikings out ofthe playoffs, and a couple of years
ago, I whiffed on a gamewinning call for the first time in my
(31:06):
life at Arizona where Joseph kick isup and it is good. No,
he missed it, so I blewit. And as you know how social
media works. Now I'm looking atbarstool. There's my face. I got
a clown nose on it. It'sblowing up. Who's this clown? He's
embarrassing. Well, that's okay, that's the other side of it. So
all of these Minneapolis miracle, thisis not Detroit, all of these calls
(31:30):
that thankfully people have loved. Ijust thank God for guiding me to those
words and that crescendo at that time, and most importantly, that people found
it enjoyable and mostly as a distractionin their lives from whatever they're trying to
get away from. Say I turnon Chris Carr and Company in the morning,
(31:52):
Well that's a distraction to make melaugh, to let me hear good
music, to let me hear whatever, to get me away from whatever,
same thing with nine to noon onKFN. That's the only way I look
at my career with racetrack announcing playby player or nine to noon kfan is
I'm there to serve those who taketime to listen, to give them a
(32:14):
distraction from their lives and hopefully somelaughs, because those are the gifts God
has given me. Amen only wayto answer it, man other well,
speaking of chats about the Bible andstuff like that, you know, other
than in the hallways here with youand I, how how how often does
God provide you with chats about theBible or Jesus or Heaven with really anybody
(32:37):
in your life. All I needis Him for that. I have chats
daily, yeah with Him for that. I have a Bible next to my
bed. I have a Bible nextto my my When I'm watching football or
whatever on TV, I've got aBible sitting there too. I talked to
my wife about about my relationship, our relationship with Christ. Talk to the
boys about it all the time. The boys bide us changed churches, which
(33:00):
was getting astray. I won't godown that road but naming anybody, but
it was just our church at thetime. Was they were going to buy
able classes there and everything else. And they said, this is we're not
doing anything. Okay, well I'mnot feeling it. We're both neither of
them are feeling it. And theysaid, is there any chance we could
look around when your kids tell youthat, Yeah, you're like, my
(33:22):
God, literally thank you, andyou and your wife are feeling the same
way. We're just we're older,we've been going through the motions for all
these years. We have strong faithin God. But they were right.
We started listening to the sermons alittle bit more. Then I said,
what do you say? You know. A couple of weeks went by,
I said, let's kind of listenin a little bit, let's see what's
(33:42):
going on. And we said it'stime. It's time, I said.
And the boys did some research andthey're like, what about this one?
What about that one? About thisone? I don't care what the domination
is. Let's go see where themessage is at right, Let's see where
God takes us. And then wefound one. And it's like you talked
about different at our church the otherchurch. It's fine, but it's also
(34:05):
a personal journey, you know. And we found our journey somewhere else,
and it's been great for us.Well. Others may find their journey through
our old church. We find itthrough this new church. That helps a
lot. So that's our conversations arenow as they were in the church before
that, which is good. Andtheir friendships and everything else. And I
also had conversations with my friends thatdon't believe. I have a lot of
conversations with my friends I don't believe. I don't scold them, I don't
(34:29):
nothing bad there. It's just like, well, they have as much right
to not believe as you do too. You believe you're right, and I
don't interfere. But I remember havinga conversation with somebody that really did not
believe, and somebody wrote on abench grace, and they said, what
does that mean? And I knewken of where he's going, and I
said, that is on this benchfor me to tell you. I believe
(34:53):
about the grace of God. Andno matter what you do, what kind
of idiot you are, no matterwhat you say, you can be if
you choose to be forgiven for allof the ick and everything that you're going
through in your world. And you'regoing through a lot of it right now,
right now. And this person ison the team now to speak.
(35:13):
But I didn't do that. Thatwas that written on the bench, written
on a But you and the benchwere But I communicated with the bench.
The Holy Spirit puts you in aposition to be a conduit with a bench
to draw somebody's ears to become open, and then the Holy Spirit does the
rest. And his marriage was fallingapart. There was a lot going on
(35:35):
there. Things are a lot betternow. And dude, this guy,
this son of God. Everyone looksat man that crucifixion had hurt. It's
yeah, physically, but think abouteverything else. The weight of the entire
world, all sense on his shoulders, attacking. All he's trying to do
(36:00):
is save us, and what dowe do? We're spit in his face.
The old joke is is you know, why doesn't God come back yet?
Well, look at what we diddo in the first time, right,
I mean that's you know, thatdoesn't apply. It's He is the
one try you in. God isbeautiful for everyone and welcoming to all.
(36:22):
It doesn't matter where you've been inyour past or what you believed or I
didn't believe. But no matter howhardened of a Richard Dawkins esque atheist you
are, if if the Bible teaches, if God wants you on the team,
there there's nothing you can do aboutit. And and it's very hard
(36:42):
for people to give up their will, lower their pride and hard headedness and
or what they want to do andgo Thy not I because it's an eye
not thy culture. So that's youknow, God, God gave. The
Bible teaches, God gave man freewill with the potential for evil and or
(37:05):
sin. Well, the free willis we choose the sin and or the
evil. And that's all part ofit. And started with Adam and Eve.
But you said something earlier where youknow you said that that faith is
personal, okay, or something likethat. You remember, sure, okay,
but you're also very comfortable, whetheryou know what questions coming or not,
(37:27):
cracking the microphone and saying I believein Jesus Christ, I believe in
God, I believe in the HolySpirit. I also believe the Bible teaches
that I am going to sin andI'm still going to heaven, which is
a broader, longer conversation for anothertime. So why I bring it up
is because I learned the other dayand I guess I knew it, but
(37:49):
it was put to me by myteacher in a way that I never had
heard. So if you talk tosomebody who you know believes in God and
they're like, what, I don'treally like to talk about it, uh,
because I just like to keep myfaith to myself, that's up Satan.
That is straight of Satan controlling you. You may believe in God,
but the Bible can't stress anymore allover it. If you are lucky enough
(38:16):
to organically be put in a spotwhere somebody wants to talk about your belief
in God, Christ, the HolySpirit, and the belief in Christ being
the only route to Heaven and you'relike, well, I like to keep
that personal. Sure, that's upSatan. That is straight from Satan.
And I just don't agree with youone hundred percent on that. My context
(38:38):
before, by the way, doesn'thave anything just so you know, nothing
to do with it. But yousaid the word Oh I did. Yeah,
no, no, But you saidthat it's very personal to you,
meaning it means a lot to you. Is what you meant? Very personal
to me, like a lot ofthings. My wife is personal to me
and I want to break about her. My God is personal about me.
Yeah, personal to me. I'mgoing to break about him, you know
what I mean. Yeah, butit's not a secret. Yeah, you
(39:00):
know, I mean I know whatyou mean. When people come up and
they go, hey, man,I really like what you say, you
know, express your faith, Yeah, it's like, hey, yeah,
I'm if I were in that role, and I'm not chastising anybody, but
it's like I'd be right there infront of everybody if you really are a
good believer, you know, andyou want to be get up there and
go hey, yeah dude, youstarted talking about your faith on the radio,
(39:22):
and I've been glued every since.Thank you. For that. And
by the way, I get alot of those two. I get the
loud people. I also get thequiet people. Yeah, I'd love to
hear the quiet people come up andgo. I am proud to say,
yeah, you're my dude, youknow, because he's my dude. You
know, if we are put inthat position where we get an opportunity to
share the significance of the Gospel ofJesus Christ and we flub verses, or
(39:46):
we because people get too intimidated, like I don't know enough and and you
know what I heard, paith andgoal, or like I heard at the
sermon Philippians three, end of chapterfour. I just don't worry about that.
If you get that opportunity, justfor a second, say hold on
and a quick prayer. Heavenly Father, please guide me with this conversation.
(40:07):
And if it doesn't go the rightway, I'm gonna love you ten times
more than I do right now tomorrow, just like I do every single day.
And just do it because it's notgetting to Heaven has nothing to do
with us. If God puts usin the position to share our beliefs in
God, Christ and the Holy Spirit, do it no matter what comes out
because God will take care of itfrom there, however, he wants to
(40:29):
take care of it. Dude,if you had the cure to cancer,
you're gonna get out there and bellowit out there to everybody. Right,
So, hey, I found it. Yeah, I found it. All
that stuff that you're going through, well get it right here. Well,
I mean it's the same thing rightnow. If somebody asked you, Chris,
how do I get to heaven asa and we've talked about it a
little bit, but as a Christian, what would your response be. You
(40:50):
need to create a relationship with JesusChrist. That's my answer. Yeah,
you need to, and you needto. It's associating yourself with other people
that know how to get you thereor opening up the Bible. You need
to create a relationship with Jesus Christ. Right. And again, maybe the
word personal. I know you don'tlike that, Worre, but no,
(41:12):
no, no, have a personalrelationship. You're taking it wrong. What
I said is is I recognized whenyou said personal, that means it means
everything personally speaking. That's why Isaid, you crack this mic and and
you'll share the gospel up on theday. So sharing it and professing what
you believe is zero problem with you. However, some other people that that's
(41:34):
what. I agree with that. But you're going to create a personal relationship
with Jesus Christ and you are goingto be ice man. You got to
read. You just have to readthe whole book. Some people there they
go right to the New Testament. That's great, But dude, he's all
over the Old Testament. Jesus Christis all over the Old Testament. That's
(41:54):
the dude they're talking about, frombeginning to add from Genesis all the way
through, right, and go readabout David. If you're feeling bad about
yourself and you don't like yourself andthink you're a juke, go read about
David. Preach it. David wasthe dude. He was the worst.
He was awful, and he continuedto be awful. But this is David,
(42:19):
as in Star of David King,David the only one in the Bible
where God said in first Samuel paraphrasing, this is a chip off the old
block here, man, he's writin my heart lay off him, yea
that David look at He was anadulterer and he arranged for the murder of
somebody. He walked around to alittle piece of soul skirt. I mean,
come on, lastly, why Christianityand not a religion or like Buddhism,
(42:44):
et cetera. Oh Man, noneof them add up. But I'm
not an expert on anything else otherthan Christianity. I'm not even an expert
on Christianity. Man, none ofus are I I There's just the messaging
(43:05):
is different. The messaging is entirelydifferent. U. In Christianity. Yeah,
Jesus, Jesus is not if theymay try to sell you that Christ
and they may like he's in otherreligions, but not to the level of
what he is in the Christ inthe Christian religion, hence making it Christianity.
You can't get to take out withoutwithout Christ. If if this were
(43:27):
an answer the Holy Spirit's giving me, tell me, if it hits you,
you can name any religion, anybelief you want. Christianity is the
only faith that starts and stops withwith Jesus God in the Holy Spirit.
Everything else begins with Man, everythingelse begins with You have to do this
(43:49):
to get here. Really, I'm, like I said, in kind of
paraphrasing, in the open of thewhole thing, like I'm really gonna put
that kind of honor on myself asinner? Are you kidding me? And
what you have to do to getthere? All these things you have to
do from point A to point rightso you can be the murderous. You
know what you've done with your life, and in the very end you seek
out the grace of God and youput your trust in Jesus Christ. Nothing,
(44:13):
no good d can get you toHeaven. Correct your your faith in
Jesus Christ. Any relationship with hasto be intact, otherwise you won't know
you. And I'm gonna say realquick, dude, I want to mention
on your podcast. I know yougot to go. What I really think
is cool. Pa. You've gota lot of people around you that build
a great team. You have peoplethat are spotters for you on the on
(44:36):
the vikings. You've got a Nordohere that puts together this podcast, maybe
another podcast and everything else. Youhave all these people. You've built a
huge name for yourself. What amazedme is when I went to your little
church and I looked over and here'sthis guy who you know? Dude,
I mean, you said it.God sets you up right, And I'll
(44:57):
end with something in my quote ina minute for I have one specific for
you. But here's this guy.All of a sudden, Man, your
shoes are off. It's like you'rein a cheap robe, and you are
frantically trying to put together this serviceat your church, doing the PowerPoint presentation.
And you're so passionate about getting themusic together and everything else. You're
(45:20):
not directing and pointing at people likeyou would be at a football game.
You're doing this for your passion forGod. You're the one over there mixing
the music and doing all this andputting, you know, getting making sure
the computer's set up right, andmakeing, mixing the yeah, mixing the
tank, putting the words up there, making sure there's coffee over there.
Hey, everybody who've got bibles backthere, that's not the PA that we
(45:43):
all see. And I'm telling youit was eye opening to me. And
I always knew that you added in. You very nice. But Lebron may
call you a national treasure. Icall you one of God's treasures. Wow,
you are one of God's treasures, and you act like it's so men
keep brought in with it. You'rebeautiful. Thank you, and thanks for
having me know that hospitality was agift until like within the last year,
and I'm honored to have the giftof hospitality. I love serving people people
(46:07):
your Jesus did so. I usedto look at those Tuesdays in the summer,
specifically with all my jobs going asexhausting because it's it's I've run that
chapel for two and a half years. But it's not exhausting as such an
honor, even tired, it's anhonor. Like Nordo brought his girls,
you you've come. I brought manypeople from iHeart and and from Faith Family
(46:31):
Church, and some people who workfor the Vikings, and it's just great
that they take the time to believein something. But again, when they
get in there and they hear thegospel of Jesus Christ, I have nothing
to do with that. It's you'rehere. Hopefully you like the tang.
The barbecue we're going to have atthe end of it's going to be great,
especially if it's from Nordo's trigger andwhat the Holy Spirit does with it
(46:52):
from there is between the Holy Spiritand you. You're You're very nice.
Continued success with a Chris and Company. Thank you and thank you for joining
the podcast. You're a demonstration onhow to serve. Thank you. That's
Chris Carr from K one O twoand I'm Paul Allen. We thank Nordo
for producing Keep those poems to thesky, Thank you very much for listening.
(47:12):
That's faith and to Goal thirty nine.
