Remember when it was impossible to misplacethe TV remote because you were the TV
remote. Remember when music sounded likethis, Remember when social media was truly
social? Hey John, how's itgoing today? Well, this show is
all about you one. This isfifty plus with Doug Pike. Helpful information
(00:28):
on your finances, good health, and what to do for fun. Fifty
plus brought to you by the UTHealth Houston Institute on Aging Informed Decisions for
a healthier, happier life, andby Texas Indoor Air Quality Specialists because clean
air is healthier air. And nowfifty plus with Doug Pike. Alright,
(00:52):
here we are on Friday, dayafter the fourth of July, which very
well, maybe the calm before wecould call it the calm before the storm.
Although even though Beryl is barreling ourway now according to the forecast,
they keep pushing this thing farther andfarther east. It keeps wanting to trend
(01:18):
our way, and by our Imean Texas, and so far, if
it would just hurry up and dowhatever it's gonna do, it doesn't look
to pose much threat to the greaterHouston area or even to Galveston, other
than with significantly higher tides which arealmost certain and several days of rain.
(01:42):
I looked at the forecast early thismorning and again a little while ago,
and Galveston's looking at solid, prettymuch solid, significant chances of rain all
the way from at least Sunday andpossibly Saturday through a week from today,
so that that storm system is gonnabe a thorn in our sides for quite
(02:07):
some time, even though we shouldn'thave to and I'm I don't want to
jinx anything, even though we shouldn'thave to take the brunt of it.
It is almost certainly now going tohave enough time over open water after it
exits the Yucatan Peninsula to become ahurricane again. It'll it'll drop off of
(02:29):
there probably is a tropical storm. But water's plenty hot in the Gulf of
Mexico to make this thing do something. It and it's Frustrated's there's no need
yet to race to the grocery storeand hoard toilet paper and water. But
(02:51):
I guess worst or best case scenario, we get a little a lot of
rain and a little wind. Worstcase scenario, it shifts farther east and
stays over the Gulf of Mexico. For several days and then finally locks down
on us, which is, likeI said, it's not supposed to do
(03:12):
that. And I'm not going totry to play chicken a little on you,
but just keep an eye on thatthing. Just keep an eye on
it. And if you've lived herefor more than an hour and a half,
you kind of know what to doin case of a hurricane. And
the only I know, I'm notgoing to say anymore about it. I
don't want to mess it up.Let's step off into today's highs and low's
in Haiku, brought to you,as always by Texas Indoor Quality Specialists.
(03:35):
I'll pound two fifty say healthy airback to it. I guess really all
eyes on Beryl, be watchful, but not worried. Tropics otherwise, calm.
How's that will? All right?I thought the delivery could maybe use
a little bit of Well, well, what happened is I actually had a
(03:59):
line that I had it twice,so I had to on the fly just
kind of step over that and notdo it that way. Well, I
like the messaging, Okay, Idefinitely like the message. So now we're
grading on two things. Well,I think as the rubric will change there's
(04:21):
way too much thought being given tothis. Just what's the number? Ah,
give it a seven. Oh wow, I'm pleasantly surprised. I thought
you were going to linger down therearound six or so. Again, thank
you for that. Seven. Willoff to market we go now where none
of the big indicator is really doingmuch at all. Oil continues to climb
(04:44):
at last glance, eighty four dollarsin change a barrel. Thank you very
much. There's really no reason forthat at all. Well, there is
one, he's in the White House. But other than that, the promise
that was made to us along weshould have s become true by now,
the promise that all of us hadhoped. What happened was that oil would
(05:06):
start to slide downward. Yeah,I wonder why it's not as we get
closer and closer to the election. And I'll tell you why. It's because
his policies are so dreadful. Hispolicies are so anti oil and gas that
there's really there's really no way toreverse them other than to wait until the
(05:29):
election. Now, there was Idid read this morning about a Supreme Court
decision that was quite favorable for theoil and gas people. I haven't had
a chance to read the story yet, which is why I'm hisit to go
into it even but I did seethat headline and hopefully, hopefully, well
(05:53):
all it can possibly do is justeighty six one of Biden's policies that he
put into place within the first seventytwo hours he was in office that just
crippled our oil and gas industry andhas left it that way. We're to
the point that well, we andwe have been since not long into his
run. We're at the point whereinstead of being energy independent and selling oil
(06:18):
and gas to countries around the world, we are buying it, and not
only buying it, but buying itfrom enemies. And that is that's his
administration in a nutshell. Unfortunately, costs of gold thanks to Houston gooldexchange dot
com up another twenty bucks this morning, Ashley at twenty three eighty nine an
(06:43):
ounce. It's a lot of money. Twenty three eighty nine an ounce.
Go looking around the house, Maybego do some panning out in the woods.
See if you can't rustle up afew flakes might be worth it might
be worth to take a gas.Think about this at twenty three almost twenty
four hundred dollars an ounce. Youwouldn't have to find much gold to at
(07:05):
least get a tank of gas outof it. Moving into your weekend plant,
No, I'll tell you what.I'm gonna stop here and we're gonna
go into into the break and thenwhen we get back, actually we are
going to talk to well, no, we're gonna be all right for this
one, but we will go intotalking to who was it that got sick?
(07:29):
Oh it was Lisa, Poor Lisa, Poor Lisa. We'll talk to
her next week. We're gonna talkto Jerry Hamachek at the bottom of the
hour. Let me think, noit maybe in the next segment. I'll
get you the number in just aminute. Will all right on the way
out. UT Health Science Center's UTHealth Institute on Aging is a collaborative,
(07:49):
as I've mentioned so many times nowand proudly done so for the better part
of eight years and change, acollaborative of providers all over town who you
have gone back for more education into help them better understand what their specific
(08:09):
discipline can do for seniors, whetherit's your heart, your lungs, your
your gut, your veins, anyof that stuff, your eyes, your
brain, your nervous system. Anybodywho works in any of those fields up
to an inc also with therapists andtrainers. Everybody is involved in this and
(08:31):
the commonality between all these people isthat they have gone back for that extra
training, so they know us alittle bit better than the average provider might
and that's a big deal. Asseniors, our bodies are different. They
flat out are. And if youhaven't looked in the mirror recently to see
it, and you are a fullfledged senior card carrying member, take another
(08:52):
look. We're a little bit different, and on the inside it's even more
different. So check out the websiteUTA edu slash Aging. See all the
services they can provide, See allthe things that they can do for you
and for me and anybody else whois in the category. And by the
way, I would encourage all ofyou to join ut Health Houston's Institute on
(09:13):
Aging for that walk to end Alzheimer'son November ninth. They want to feel
the largest team of any other entityin this region for that walk on November
ninth. And by going to thewebsite you can find out more about that
and maybe participate yourself. Utch dotedu slash Aging what's life without a net?
(09:35):
I suggest you go to bed, sleep it off, just wait until
the show's over. Sleepy. Backto Dougpike as fifty plus continues. All
right, welcome back to fifty pluson this Friday, soon to become Saturday,
(09:56):
then soon to become probably a rainySunday. We'll talk about that in
a little while. We're gonna talkin this segment about the that same elephant
we've been talking about a few hundredmiles south of here, and that elephant
is Hurricane Barrel, which is workingits way towards the South Texas coast and
expected to kind of make a messof things even up this far, starting
as early as Sunday. It doesn'tlook I don't want to I don't want
(10:16):
to jinx anything. I'll tell youwhat we're gonna do, though, is
talk about how one of Galveston Island'smost iconic properties kind of sets up for
something like this. And with thatin mind, I'm going to bring in
Jerry Hamicheck from Moody Gardens, whichI'd imagine is I'd imagine that you guys
are pretty well packed with folks whocame down to celebrate the fourth right well,
(10:41):
yeah, it's it's been you know, a busy holiday weekend and and
here we are with this storm comingin. But we we being here on
the coast, we're always aware oncewe get it, well even before we
get in the hurricane season, thatbeing prepared is the one thing we need
to do. And hopefully, youknow, we prepare for the things that
(11:03):
never happen. Oh boy, andthat's the truth. Let's talk about how
how much preparation it takes to securenot only the property in the buildings and
the guests inside. I would feellike are pretty secure, but you've got
all those exhibits and animals and allof that. What do you guys work
on different levels of preparation or codesand colors? Is this like a code
(11:24):
blue or a code yellow or anything? You know? I think things when
as soon as we see storms thatare in the Caribbean, we've got our
eye on them, and you know, it enters into a different phase and
as they come into the golf andwe've got a plan in place, and
(11:45):
that plan does change with each stormthat we see. Each storm is different.
And we being that we have animalshere on our property, well,
first of all, you know, one thing I'll mention, our iconic pyramids
are not just by appearance looking cool, they actually serve a purpose and that
those angles that are there on thepyramids are designed to help deflect some of
(12:11):
that wind, you know, howit's not coming straight at it. But
as we prepare for the storms, there's an amazing network that exists between the
Association of Zoos and aquarium facilities. So as just as other facilities work together
with us when there's a storm comingin, we work with others that through
(12:31):
the AZYA to just help support oneanother. So Hurricane Katrina when it hit,
it hit New Orleans so badly, and you know, there's things that
we did to help provide support fortheir animals and recovery after that. And
with the storm with Hurricane Ike,we had Houston Zoo and others that helped
(12:56):
us in our recovery. But theplanning is a part of that too,
because there's other storms that occur, such as Hurricane Rita that caused all the
traffic congestion, and so what welearned from those storms was, you know,
sometimes we have to modify our plans. We can't take risks. So
you know, this goes back anumber of years. But we used to
(13:18):
have a plan to evacuate our ourpenguins to SeaWorld in San Antonio, and
it became real apparent to us withthe traffic backup that was occurring there,
that we didn't want to take therest risk of taking animals out on the
road and then possibly be stranded foryou know, fourteen hours and some of
(13:39):
the things that we saw, I'mhaving terrible flashbacks right now. Yeah.
And so what we we modified ourplans and and we've got within our facility
we have you know, areas, interior areas that are best for us to
(14:00):
to you know, kind of preparefor the storm as it's coming in there.
And so with that, we've gotother things that we do just modified
based on what we learn from eachstorm, and we collaborate with the other
facilities to continually adjust those plans sothat we know what we're doing is best
for our animals and for our staff, and we just take a look at
(14:24):
those things as each storm comes tous one by one. Huh. Jerry
Hammacheck from Moody Gardens on fifty plus. You live on the island now,
are you? Are you in yourneighbors doing anything yet or you are you
more in just prepare to get preparedmode right now? Uh, you know
we're in. We're in our preparedmode and hopefully that you know what that
means for most of us is wehave our emergency plan in place. We
(14:48):
have you know, if if thatcalls for an evacuation, that we've got
our our items that are handy andready for us to go if that time
comes. So that's really what whatthe best things that we can do.
And then obviously we Moody Gardens looksat our local government entities and all the
(15:09):
different experts that are out there. When that comes time to evacuate, take
key to the plans for evacuation anddo that in the orderly fashion that it's
called for so that we don't havepanic and too many people out on the
roads prematurely that cause some of theproblems that we've seen, or do it
(15:31):
enough in advance so it's not evenfactoring into that timeline. Let's go back
to Moody Garden or go back tolooking forward for Moody Gardens. Once we
get put Beryl in the rearview mirror, Okay, got any new animals down
there, we can come see ornew attractions. You know, we just
introduced two new encounters. You getto go behind the scenes. We have
(15:52):
some special behind the scenes experiences whereyou can meet a penguin. We've got
private encounters where you can go behindthe scenes and do that, or group
encounters with a group of fifteen peoplethat you're put together with with some others
along with your group of people fora total of fifteen people. So you
can go and have that special experience, meet the penguin, learn more about
(16:17):
them, and our biol just makethat possible. So we've had the penguins
and the giant river oater programs fora while, and we have recently just
added in our stingray encounters and ourshark encounters. And you're not getting in
the water just to be this justpast weekend, not a good publicity stunt
(16:40):
for the sharks. This is afeeding experience and our staff, our biologists
are there and so you can getup close and see how they're feeding.
We've got that one million gallon tankin the Caribbean exhibit and you go up
above and you're up on a catwalkand you get to see our bill just
feeding the sharks. They have acoal that they put it out. It's
(17:03):
just a very cool experience and anopportunity to kind of get behind the scenes
and have some special experiences. Nowthat we've got about a minute left here,
and now that we've gotten that awesomefly Fishing Film Festival behind us for
this year, what's showing on thatgiant, biggest screen of its kind in
Texas these days. Well, wedid just introduce a new film that pairs
(17:26):
up really nicely with our Body Worldsexhibit that just opens. So we've got
a film called Superhuman Bodies. Soit kind of teaches us a little bit
more about how to It gives youa perspective to look at the body and
understand everything that helps make us tickso that we can take better care of
(17:47):
ourselves. So that's a great newfilm that's on the three D theater.
And of course we've got Palm bTrained Forest Aquarium. All the attractions are
open and you've got some great waysto have indoor in outdoor fund so if
we do have some rain, we'vegot options. Yeah, there's still plenty
to do down there. Jerry Hammachekfrom Moody Gardens Moodygardens Dot com go there.
(18:08):
You can find out about everything theyhave, including that very cool golf
course that I absolutely love. Jerry, thank you so much. I appreciate
it. Stay safe, dinner, all right, thank you so much.
Oh yeah, Bobby, all right, we gotta take a little break here
on the way out. Texas IndoorAir Quality Specialists. I've talked about them
for quite some time, and Ican't encourage you enough to contact them to
(18:33):
get your duct work cleaned out.If you haven't had your duckwork cleaned out
in years or ever, then itclearly would need some help. Every time
you open the door, open awindow, every time somebody comes in or
out of that house, there's stuffthat gets in there. And if you
have pets, there's always stuff beinggenerated in the air that ultimately gets pulled
(18:56):
through the system through the filters. The filters catch most of it, but
not all of it, and therest of it ends up in that duct
work or maybe on your coils,or maybe in your plenum. Texas Indoor
Air Quality Specialists will come to yourhouse. They use a patented truck mounted
system to methodical well. First theygo in there and by hand they clean
(19:19):
the coils. Then they clean theplanum and then they crank up this pneumatic
whip. That is, they justgo from vent to vent methodically throughout the
entire house and make sure that everyparticulate in that ductwork is sucked right out
of there, and it leaves yourhouse, it goes into the truck,
(19:41):
and when the truck goes away, everything that made you sneeze, everything that
made you sniffle, everything that madeyour eyes itchy and watery, is gone
with it. Cleaner air is healthyair. They're synonymous. Clean air is
healthy air. That really is.And there are no hidden costs. It's
not like a carpet cleaning company that'sgoing to come in there and say,
(20:03):
oh, well we found this too, and that's going to cost you more.
No, when you set up theappointment to get your duct work done,
that's the you'll know the price rightthen, because they charged by the
unit and they charge by the vent. If you can add those up and
apply the prices per each you knowexactly what it's going to cost you to
breathe cleaner, healthier air for manyyears to come. It's not something you
(20:26):
have to do every six weeks.Years. That duct worker yours is going
to be spick and span clean.Dial pound two fifty and then say the
keyword healthy air. Pound two fifty, healthy air, and start breathing cleaner,
healthier air. Now aged to perfection. This is fifty plus with Dugpike.
(21:03):
All right, welcome back, fiftyfolof thanks for listening on this Friday.
As we all watched the tropics closely. By the way, that other
little yellow thing that was down there, well a few hundred miles or whatever
it was east of Beryl, itfell off the map. It's gone.
It's bye bye. It went downhillfast and just fell apart. We have
(21:23):
our hands full with barrel Ow.As Captain Scott, I just looked and
saw a Facebook post that shows hisarea of Texas, right where he lives,
as being the spot it's supposed toland. And I'm kind of with
him three days out. That madehim feel pretty good because the chances it's
(21:45):
going to still be there in threedays are slim, and I actually I'm
concerned now that it might even slideeven farther east, and that's just not
what we need around here. It'sto take any kind of a hurricane and
through here on the east side ofus, and not high tailing it up
inland as fast as it can.I'll keep an eye on this thing.
(22:07):
I want you to do that too. By the way, I was gonna
talk in this segment with Lisa Hillfrom VIP Glass, but she's under the
weather, as they say, soI've agreed to move her to next week
and that we will do. Andwe're going to talk about about when a
windshield really needs to be replaced, and what if any kind of a crack
(22:30):
or crunchy looking, some nasty lookingscar that a rock made or whatever,
when those things really need to bereplaced because they could become more serious.
I want to talk about why thesewindshields now also have to be reprogrammed.
All the electronic stuff in our carsis just making it more and more difficult
(22:51):
to afford getting everything fixed. Movingto the weekend plans, if yours include
being in the water, you gottabe careful where wherever you plan to make
a splash. Summer's already claimed severallives in rivers and lakes along our coastline.
Was a woman killed just over theweekend, as a matter of fact,
up at Lake Conroe. She fellout of a boat and two people
(23:18):
who I think were involved somehow withthat particular instance or incident were arrested for
boating while intoxicated in connection with thatdeath. Put my safety sam hat on
again. If you can't find anybodyin your friend group who is willing to
be the designated sober driver of theboat, how about you just don't launch
(23:44):
the boat. I'm not trying totake any fun away from anybody, but
you've got to know when to stop. You just got to know when to
stop. It's not worth somebody's lifefor you to have another beer. Okay.
I cannot, for the life ofme understand why people will stay sober
all the way to the lake becausethey don't want to get pulled over,
and then start drinking and keep drinkingand think it's okay to operate a boat
(24:08):
which has no breaks on a lakeor a bay that has no lanes or
traffic signals, and then if theycan actually get the boat back on the
trailer somehow, they drive all theway home still drunk. I just really
don't understand that, And I wishthat boaters, not all boaters, certainly
(24:29):
some boaters. I wish that thepeople who are doing that would stop because
they're just going to kill somebody elseback to let me take that down back
to the beach front. More andmore sharks making their way into the news
down along South Padre Island beachfront.Actually, a single shark is suspected to
(24:53):
have attacked at least four people, one of whom had a very very serious
leg injury. I saw the videothat was taken down there, and from
what I saw, with heavy bloodloss right right there in the in the
shore wash as they were bringing herashore, and she didn't die from what
(25:15):
I've heard, which is fantastic news, but had to have a tourniquet applied
to her leg. I don't knowwhat permanent damage there may be, but
that shark hit that woman very hard, and I think it was a woman.
I saw another story where it saidit was a man, and it
described almost an identical injury, soI'm not sure either way. Somebody got
(25:37):
torn up pretty badly. There wasanother instance with that same shark, they
believe in which somebody just kind ofgot nipped. And then the third and
fourth injuries associated with that one sharkwere attributed to two injuries that were occurred
that occurred while they were fighting offthe shark not bites, but while who
(26:00):
knows, maybe somebody sprained an anklejumping up and down on the bottom of
the sea. I don't know. But the bottom line here is that the
sharks have been in the ocean longerthan there have been people in the water,
and you just have to be aware, and you have to do yourself
and everybody around you who loves youa favor and just avoid going out maybe
into more than waste deep water. Now, as a former surfer, well
(26:22):
i'd still like to call myself asurfer. It's been a while though,
But as someone who spent countless hoursin much deeper than waste deep water,
chasing waves all over the place,I get that. And if you love
the ocean enough to go out thereand do it, go do it,
and I would encourage it. Theodds of being bitten by a shark are
(26:45):
extremely rare. They are, butit could happen. So if you're just
somebody who's not really comfortable around thewater anyway, and you're not going surfing,
you're not getting on a boogie boardor doing anything like that, just
try to avoid water that's more thanabout waist deep, because otherwise there's a
chance you might end up having tojab your fingers into his shark's eyes or
(27:07):
its gills, and that that wouldbe pretty dog on traumatic. Wait out
there, walk out waiste deep topee. We all know why you're in
the water. Going out there,do your business, Shake around a little
bit so the water circulates all thatout of there and it's just sea water.
Back in your in your drawers again, and then go back under your
(27:30):
beach umbrella and enjoy the rest ofyour day. Oh mercy. Well,
have you ever encountered any sharks anywhere, like up close and personal? Yes?
Where in Galveston? I'm calling BLONEO. I saw a guy fishing on
the pier and he pulled up abig old bull shark. How big a
bull shark? It was pretty bigpier. I don't know. It was
(27:53):
one of the ones on the seat, one of the wooden ones. Yeah,
yeah, okay, And actually,in fairness to you, lots of
sharks have been caught off those piers. I've caught a few myself. I
mostly fished for other things. WhenI was a true life peer rat,
I spent man My friends and Iwould go down there and spend spend the
(28:15):
night on the pier. We wouldfish for speckled trout at night under the
lights, and then as dawn cameabout. On the good days, we
would use our larger rods and throwbig baits out off the end of the
pier and we would catch jack kravalbig jack's fifteen to twenty thirty pound jacks.
We would occasionally, if the waterwas super good, catch king mackerel
(28:37):
off there. We had a coupleof days I can recall over many years,
very rare, when we caught benitaoff the pier, which is a
big offshore bait fish, and justall a tarpin, big tarpain every now
and then. Yeah, there's somecool a kobia kobea in the springtime.
There's all kinds of cool fish thatget caught down there. Just doesn't happen
(29:00):
all the time. And that's whyGalveston sometimes gets a bad rap for being
ugly water. Charles Barkley, CharlesBarkley insulted our water down there. But
he was just down there on thewrong day. Yeah, and that good.
Keep him away for the whole time. I don't care if he ever
comes back. That's just somebody elsethat I don't have to worry about getting
out there near me when I'm tryingto fish or trying to surf or whatever,
(29:22):
when the water's really clear, becauseit does get that way, it
looks like the Caribbean sometimes. Wellhave you ever seen it that clean?
No? I have. Maybe I'lltalk about that when we get back,
because it gets me all fired upabout going again. Kirk Holmes speaking of
getting fired up. If you arein the mood, if you are in
the market for a new custom home, by all means, give kirk Holmes
(29:45):
a chance to build that thing foryou. Set up a consultation with them
and talk about what you want, what you want the house to look like,
where you want it, which wayyou wanted to face, anything,
anything and everything. Saying that makesthat your dream home specific to you and
your family, they will accommodate asbest they possibly can. The only two
(30:07):
things that are alike in these homesthat would be the two y six exterior
walls for better insulation and the twentyyear structural warranty, which is twice the
standard. Everything else is all aboutyou, just like their website is.
They build from the northwest side ofHouston all the way out through the hill
country, San Antonio, College Station, Austin. Think of it a base,
(30:30):
as a baseball field Northwest Houston homeplate, San Antonio, third base,
College Station, second Base, Austin, first base, anywhere in there,
anywhere in the infield. They'll buildthat house for you, and you
will love it from the day youmove in, day they hand you the
keys, walk over the threshold. You're gonna love that house because it's yours,
(30:52):
it's your dream. Kirkcolmbs dot comis the website for the twenty twenty
four Southern Living Builder of the Year, Kirkcombs dot Com. That's kay,
you are ka because at Kirk Hoombs, it's all about you. You know.
They sure don't make them like theyused to. That's why every few
months we wash them, check hiswords, and spring on a fresh coat
(31:14):
of wax. This is fifty pluswith Doug Pike Boom book Bie. Welcome
back fifty plus on this Friday afternoonweather. It's falling apart on us as
we speak. I'm just we're gonnabe good today and tomorrow certainly, but
(31:37):
the way this thing's going, we'reprobably gonna start seeing some at least outer
bands. It's a very big stormand I don't think that rolling across the
Yucatan, as big as that thingis, is going to knock all the
steam out of it. I wishthat were so. I wish it were
gonna push back west because my sonand I had big plans over the weekend,
(32:02):
but those plans are likely to beshut down. Unfortunately, there's just
not much we can do about it. Oh Mercy, let's co Where do
I want to go? This isThere's a couple of little news items I
want to relay before we finish offthe week. Our president's administration, it
(32:22):
was learned this week, actually isreimporting illegal immigrants who were deported originally by
President Trump. This president and whoever'stelling him what to do or on track
to pretty much cripple this nation. They're trying, They're trying their darness.
(32:43):
Also worth talking about is the jobsreport. Labor departments said we added two
hundred and six thousand jobs in June, as I mentioned recently, but they
didn't say that one hundred and seventyfive thousand or some of those jobs were
federal government positions. And we can'ttrust any numbers they put out until they
revise their new job counts. Whichthey do pretty much every month for April
(33:07):
and May. By the way,the downward revisions. After they were boasting
about how many jobs they created, they pulled the number down a total of
one hundred and eleven thousand jobs fromwhat we were told we had gained,
but we didn't gain. This onemade me snicker just a little bit from
Corinne. Jean Pierre, White Housemouthpiece for the president, came word shortly
(33:30):
after the debate that President's the president'sapparent confusion and muttering were the result of
well, the first time, shesaid it was a cold, and then
later it was jetlag after his dDay trip to Europe. Only I don't
know about that because he spent twelvedays at Camp David rehearsing for the debate
(33:52):
between the Europe trip and walking onto the CNN stage. And Biden himself
told more than twenty Democrat governors onWednesday that he'd undergone a check up after
the debate and was found to bein good health, which kind of makes
you wonder about Corinne's recent denial thatBiden had gotten any medical ZAM exams since
(34:15):
his physical in February. You know, it's really with this whole bunch.
It's no longer that somebody's lying amongthem, among them, no longer,
well, somebody must be lying nowis everybody. They're all lying, and
they're doing a horrible job of coveringit all up and keeping their spin in
sync. Uh. If you wantto look for something to be number one,
(34:37):
well, top five, we'll callit in Houston. Houston recently noted
as one of the top five citiesin the country for major retailed theft rings
major retail theft rings. Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Oakland they counted
as one Houston, New York cansee. And what all five of those
(35:01):
cities have in common, They've gotDemocrat mayors and liberal judiciaries, which makes
it very easy if you get caught, to get bailed out, to get
somehow back in the mix and goright back to what you were doing,
because that's all you know. Sincelast week talked about retail theft by the
(35:22):
way, I've now witnessed my thirdexample of it, this time at the
grocery store. I frequent two peoplebasket full of snacks and chips and soft
drinks, none of it bagged,by the way, and they just pushed
that cart right out the door nearthe pharmacy, which that door is not
monitored by employees, not at all, unfortunately, And they just they knew
(35:46):
it and they walked right out.I said something to somebody in the store,
and I think they went back outand talked to the people because they
were still loading when I was relayingthe information. But mostly they didn't look
terribly alarmed or terribly interested in goingout there and confronting those people, which
(36:06):
is kind of spooky. All right, Well, no, wonder the country's
in a mess? Tgis or no? Absolutely no, no, absolutely,
God, that's the one I didn'twant to do. The question was asked,
should fireworks be legal everywhere? Fortyone percent said yes, thirty five
(36:28):
said no, twenty four not sure. It was men, by the way,
probably lots of whom are missing fingers, who were far more likely to
say yes than women. That makessense. How much time do I have?
You look like you were going tothrow ten out. Oh you have
minute, two minutes and forty seconds. I can breathe a little bit.
If you're wondering why this country isin such a mess. So far as
(36:52):
young people go, so far asthe politics they espouse, so far as
theirs for banging tambourines on behalf ofcauses they don't understand. Here's why.
Very recent study found that the numberone answer for gen zeers the number one
(37:14):
source of their news. What doyou think it was? Will? The
number one source of news among genZers TikTok. Yes, that's it,
TikTok, which is owned In caseyou've missed it recently, because there's a
lot of talk about it. Ithappens to be owned by a Chinese company,
(37:36):
and I'm sure they're taking marching ordersfrom the Chinese government. And these
young people are seeing by way ofTikTok just exactly what our enemies want them
to see. Not hard to connectthe dots, It's really not think a
traditional five day workweek is rough? Will? Is that too many days to
(37:59):
work? Yep? Don't move toGreece then, because you know what they've
done, six days gone to sixugha tgis thank god it's Saturday, right,
No, because tomorrow I get myone day off. It's kind of
like being me. I work sixdays a week. It's awful, but
I like what I do. That'sthe difference. I think something I titled
(38:22):
does this taste funny to you.Did you hear about that Delta flight on
the way to Amsterdam from Detroit?A whole bunch of people had been served
spoiled food, and dozens, itsays, got sick, only dozens,
(38:42):
and when they got sick. Imaginewhat it might have been like to be
on that airplane. How many bathroomsare we talking? Maybe, yeah,
I can sum it up. Notenough, Yeah, alright. Nineteen year
old one in Texas arrested after callingnine to one one and claiming her small
child was in a car that gotstolen. Only there was no kid.
(39:05):
She was just trying to get himto find her friend's stolen car faster.
I got a way tell them there'sa child in there. That's against the
law. In case anybody is thinking, that's a great idea. Oh,
I have so much more, somuch more. I'll get to it next
week. Thank you all for listening. I hope we're all safe next week. Audios
