I am Rob the director of Operations at the Greater
South Florida Chamber of Commerce. This is one of our
weekly radio programs called the Best of South Florida. Business

with me Carl Smith. He and his family have a

number of dental practices here in South Florida, but one
of their specialties is working with seniors and working with
people who need severe dental surgeries. What I'd like to
do is get out of the Waycrol, give you an
opportunity to introduce yourself, and I want to talk a
little bit about the grand opening he just did at
the facility there on State Road seven, right off of

four forty one and Sunrise Boulevard. Beautiful facility, staated of
the art, and I know there's a number of things
that you do that other organizations don't. But what I'd
like for you to do is introduce yourself, talk a
little bit about the family background and where your practices
are located and the different services that you offer, and
any promotions that you're running.

Absolutely, thanks so much, Rob, appreciate you. My name is
Barrel Smith and I'm the VP of Marketing and Development
with Nick Stental and Nick Dental's a family owned practice.
We've been operating now for over forty five plus years.
It started off with my father as the original dentist
and maybe about ten years ago went into retirement and

at the same time, my brother had been going through
dental school, just my pol figuring out what he was
going to do with his patients that he had and
how he was going to continue his legacy. My brother
kind of took on that mantle, so doctor Edwin Smith
became the new name and face of the brand, and
together we're able to just partner up together to really
serve the community. Started off with one dental practice serving

about two thousand patients in the North Miami Beach area,
and since then we've actually grown from one location three
operatory rooms too, now having three office locations. Our second
office that we ended up opening ended up replacing the
original one. We ended up to like ten ouperatory rooms
still in North Miami Beach. But it give us the
capacity to serve at a higher level. And together my

brother and I within a three four year windows of time,
I've been able to serve eight thousand customers within the community.
Fast forward a few years now, Like I mentioned, you know,
we went from one major office in the North Miami
Beach area, so now we have two in Miami. We
have one that we just launched in Fort Lauderville. And
for us, it's all about our passion for really just

serving the community at the highest level. We know a
lot of people are dealing with pain, a lot of
people are dealing with discomfort, They're dissatisfied with the way
that their teeth feel, the way that their teeth look,
and more importantly, they're dealing with a lot of health
issues that are actually triggled, triggered because of poor oral
health and poor oral hygiene, you know. And by getting

the patient education out to the people that we work with,
we've been able to really just help them, you know,
get out of pain, you know, get a smile that
they can really get excited about, get greater health experience,
you know, experience greater health for themselves and really just
feel great and confident about the smile that they have. So,
you know, we're really excited about that. And you know,

You know, Carl, that's awesome. And I love the history
with the family. I think that's neat that it's going
from generation to generation. That's always a cool thing. But
one of the things that impressed me the most. And
obviously when you think of going to the dentists two
types of people like me. I have to have some
stuff done. I'm planning done through your facility here and
the near future. I'm the guy that has his fingers

clenched into the chair because I don't enjoy going to
the dentist. Although I must say that your brother's bedside
manner is extremely excellent and he did have a calming
of feeling about him that brought me to not be
as uptight. Because some people just get uptight when they
go to the dentist. I'm one of them. But long
story short, the fact that a lot of times you
have to go back and forth, you have to go

multiple times have certain things done. You have a unique
situation and not very many facilities offer that. But you
have state of the art equipment that's all brand new,
but you also have an in house dental lab which
can expedite the process for people. Correct.

Speaker 4 (04:58):
Yeah, that's actually correct. You're able to point that out.
So our facilities are actually equipped with the latest technology.
We have in house dental labs that allow us to
provide same day services, so things like dentures, crowns, bridges, endplants.
So when people come in and typically they would go
to a dental office any other dental office, they would see,

you know, I'm experiencing pain, and then the dentists would
have to see what's coming from and then they put
you on a treatment plan, and you know, and they'd
have to do some measurements and some molds and send
out the work to a lab and then have you
come back in three five days or a week. And
so you come back for a second appointment, and then
they come back and if your dentists don't fit perfectly

benef that they have to send it back out. Then
you'd have to come back to the office again, you know,
on another week, and so you're making two, three four
visits just to basically get one set of dentures right,
or implants or crowns or do your bridges. And so
with us, because we have our in house dental lab one,
it saves us a lot of time. You don't have
to come back for multiple visits if you you schedule

us on the right day, If we schedule you on
the right day, we can have you do everything the
same day. You walk in with pain, you walk out
with brand new dentures, brand new teeth.

And you're good to go.

And then the other thing is, you know, because we
have our in house labs, it actually makes things a
lot more cost effective for us right as a business
as a company, and our whole mission is to help
serve the community. So we take that savings and we
pass it right along to our customer. We're actually, you know,
the forty percent cheaper than the majority of our competitors
that are out there charging you know, much higher prices

for the same exact work, and we have the ability
to get it done at a much faster rate. So
we are excited about that. When we realize that patients
really had that bad experience, we knew that we had
to do something about it. And so, yeah, I'm.

Glad you brought that up.

Yeah, and I was really at ease because obviously, not
to be redundant, I'm just one of those people I
just don't enjoy going to the dentist. I can't explain it,
probably because I have some dental issues that I'm dealing with,
as I have had through a number of years. Throughout
my life, I've had to deal with things in that arena.
But usually I don't have a calming feeling when I

go in. But from top to bottom, from the minute
you walked in the door, to your reception staff, to
your dental hygienis, to the assistance to your brother, to
the other people, I met everybody and The thing about
the facility too, is talk about state of the art.
Everyone's brand new. You have machinery that I've never seen before.
It's amazing. It was really, really a cool experience. So

heard from, other people they say the, same thing and
that's not always the norm in the. Restaurant industry so

mistake or the biggest misconception that you see with business,

owners small medium and large when it comes. To marketing
where are they making the? Critical mistake can we end
on that?

Morning sure that is a, great question and it's one
of my. Favorite questions goes the first mistake and the
biggest mistake that businesses make the wait till sales have
stopped and panic is setting in, the organization and, they
go what can we do for? Marketing now so when
you're already behind the eight ball and you're losing business

to competitors or to, you know complacency in, the market
or your products and services just don't, fit anymore is
that these business owners don't work on marketing. Every day
they don't allocate resources to drive. The business sometimes you
get lucky and your location is right next to a

public's and people are walking by your window all day
long and coming into your shop and. Doing business but for,
service businesses professional service businesses that nobody walks by, your
office you really have to do aggressive marketing and you
have to do it that you can afford it and
you can handle the business unless you're, really lucky and

there's lots of lucky people, in business but there's a
lot of businesses that. Go out the numbers are astounding
if you ever look. At them so understand what the
plan is and have the metrics to gauge whether or
not you're getting enough customers, each week if sales are
growing in the, right percentage if you're getting enough sale
or enough ticket size. Per transaction are you getting enough

new customers versus? Old customers are you getting enough old
customers back into. Your business all of this is a
plan and metrics you can look at each month, and
say you know what we need to get more revenue
from our. Old customers what's the plan to reach out?
To them how do we. Entice them that's the things
that we can help you with as a digital marketing

industry for a number, of Years, And folks florida is prevalent. For,
timeshare obviously when you Think, of florida you think, of
sunshine you think of football this time, of, year. Vacations
alligators but what's the other thing you? Think? Of timesharre
and what's something no one should ever have? To do

PARTNER and i are, you know well, versed in, you
know the the operations of the of the, timeshare industry
and to be to, be honest we we really never
envisioned that we'd be on this side of, the fence,
you know helping people that have. Been misrepresented but when
we got out of that industry and we started kind
of realizing that there were some companies that were, popping up,

we thought, you, know hey who better, than, us uh,
you know to get in that and if we're going to,
do it, you know let's let's do. It right one
of the things that we did notice before we got
into this industry is that there were some people in
our space that were, you know maybe maybe just as
discredited as, you know the. Timeshare companies and so what
we wanted to do was make, sure that, you know

if we do get, into business that we do.

It right, that's awesome, you know and you do do,
it right you dot all the eyes across All the
teaser organization's extremely credible. And reputable rich for the listening audience,
out there there's a lot of people are not aware.
Of this can any timeshare owner exit their timeshare or
are there specific requirements or qualifications for a timeshare owner

to exit their. Timeshare contract elaborate on that.

For, us yeah that's a, great, Question rob so, you
know it's somewhat of a it's not a specific. Answer
necessarily and let me explain that we we turn down
more more folks than than we actually bring on. As,
clients now, our business as, you know, our company as,
you know is different from the standpoint that we focus

mostly on people that have been, almost exclusively we focus
on the folks that have been subjected to unethical or missitting.
Sales practices. You know so the reality is there are
some folks out there that we talk to that unfortunately
we can't help as much as we would. Like to,
you know if if, and again and YOU and i

have talked about, this before, you know at timeshare, contract
resolution we're NOT what i Would consider i'm sure haters
and by any stretch of, the imagination there are some
folks that are quite happy with. Their timeshare there are
some developers that do. It right what we focus on
are folks that have been subjected to misleading or unethical.
Sales practices as, an example if if you're folks that

have owned the timeshare for a number of years and
maybe now you're empty nesters and for, whatever reason the
timeshare doesn't fit. Your lifestyle, you know that's not necessarily the, developer's,
fault right so those folks might not have to go a.

Different.

Route now on, the contrary if you've been subjected to
unethical and misleading, sales practices that's a. Different story and
those are what we. Focus on and as YOU and
i have talked about in, the, past yeah it can
be a pretty short walk with a lot of, the
developers not all, the developers but there are some that
you know have, been misrepresented and those those are the

ones that, you know yes we you know there. Is hope,
you know if if somebody's elder or they've been subjected
to unethical or misleading, sales practice is they've been, you
know subjected to high pressure, misrepresented anyway those are the,
folks that yes we, can't help and yes there is
a light at the end of, the time these people can,

(32:11):
get out, you.

Speaker 2 (32:12):
Know rich based upon, your experience can you give us
a few examples of how timeshare developers have either misrepresented
your clients or what deceptive marketing tactics have they possibly
used in. Any way elaborate on, That.

Speaker 5 (32:25):
Please, yeah so, you know there's a number. Of them
i'm just going to focus on a few of the
main ones that. We get one of them that we
get a lot is is they presented it as a real.
Estate purchase they presented as, you know you're. Building equity if,
You Know las vegas is one of the most popular.
Timeshare destinations a lot of people fall victim to those

(32:46):
Timeshare Presentations, las vegas and what's commonly said in those
presentations is that you can own a piece of. The,
strip well the truth of the matter is is that
it's not a real. Estate purchase it's not, a mortgage and,
you know you don't. Have equity it's a right, to
use just like a, you know a membership to a
club would be like a, you know working out at,

(33:07):
you know, you know a gym or something. Like that
it's it's not a real. Estate purchase and so a
lot of these people they think that they, have equity
and obviously. They don't, you know you can't borrow, against
it you're not going to. Build equity they'll go in
as for, an upgrade and we call it ghost equity
because what will happen is that the people will go
into to a sales facility under the pretense of the so,

(33:32):
called update and it just turns out being. An upgrade
and what the salespeople will tell them is that you
can just take the equity that you've built up and
we'll just roll it over into into. An, upgrade well
there is there is. No equity THAT'S why i call it.
Ghost equity and so all they're all they're really doing
is just, you know just upgrading these people and taking
more of. Their money so that's a real. Common one

(33:55):
the other one that we hear a lot is and
of late we're hearing it more. THAN ever i think
it's because of the time. Of year but what happens
when these these timeshare owners are, you know in the
hot tub and they're, you know they're interacting with with
other guests at. The resort what they're finding is that
a lot of the people that they're, you know hanging

(34:15):
out with at the resort went through you know Booking
dot com or You, know expedia and they're paying one
hundred and eight nine dollars a night for a facility
that they're paying tens of thousands of dollars.

To, Access, absolutely mitch all the time tracks of companies,
out there and there's a ton. Of them for lack of,
better grammar what do you feel sets timeshare contract resolution
apart from all the.

Different, competitors, well unfortunately there are a lot of companies.
Out THERE what i want to Really, stress robin, is that,
you know first, and foremost we want to be a,
you know a. Consumer advocate we want to be somebody that,

we want to. Help everybody unfortunately. We can't if somebody
fits into our model and we feel like they've been
subjected to, miss missrepresentations we want to earn, their business
but we're not gonna, you know it's not. Gonna work
we're not gonna we're gonna get everybody's business that we.
Want to and so what we want to be first
and foremost and what separates us is that truly we

want to be. An advocate so in, other words, you
know if for whatever reason we can't earn, your business
we're here as. A resource and if you go on
our website and you'll see the testimonies uh, on there
you'll see the podcast and you'll see the different things
that we're doing just as an advocate first.

And foremost and so that does, separate us is that
a lot of the times are and, you're right there's
a lot of them. Out there and so you know
again that, sometimes unfortunately we come across people that not
only have they been misrepresented by a, timeshare developer but,
you know maybe they've been misrepresented by, you know an,
exit company and so that's a that's a, double sting

right like they've they've been, burned twice and so you
know that's really. Super unfortunate so, you know if we
get a, bad review and if you've gone ON our
bbb or you go on the website or you Go,
on google, you know if if forever reason and, it's
rare but if we ever get a, bad review it's
house on fire. Around here we just, you know you
can't be consumer consumer advocate and not have just, stellar reviews.

Stellar testimonials it just it doesn't, you know it's. NOT congruent,
i MEAN so i would say that that's what separates
us is that, we truly first and foremost are, you
know looking to help these people any way that. We
can it doesn't always mean that we're going to bring as.
A client there's a lot of, other reasons a lot
of other ways we can help these people that maybe
for whatever reason it didn't fit into, our model but

we're certainly going to be there for, you know helping
them through the, you know the the challenges that they're.

careful if we can't earn, your business just. Be cautious

okay we, get that we appreciate that that's actually a.

Reputable company, you know we deal with those. Those people we,
you know if you're going to go, that route then, you.
Know fantastic we're not going to bad mouth the, company
specifically but we do spend a lot of time just
trying to help people make the.
