(00:54):
my gym bag and you generally don't expect great, great
sense coming out of your gym bag, but because I
have biochar soap in there that I use in the morning,
it smelled absolutely fantastic. What a great product that's been.

Speaker 2 (01:09):
Yeah, awesome, Sean. Yeah, And we're ramping up to support
a voucher that is going to be sent out one
of the largest distributors in the tree care industry, and
they're going to put it in a month of their orders,
which should be upwards of fifteen thousand orders. That is

(01:31):
so people will be getting a little flyer for the
the biochar bodybar and shampooat exposure.

Speaker 1 (01:39):

check that out.

Speaker 2 (02:07):
You're gonna see soon Sean.

Speaker 1 (02:09):
Yeah, travel bar side, Oh really, Oh that'd be personal.

Speaker 2 (02:13):
One ounce bar so it's one fourth to size. Uh
but you know when you want to take it along
and you just need a little bit, yeah, a nice
travel size.

Speaker 1 (02:25):
Oh man, oh, that'll be that. It's going to be
exciting as well. And of course you in order now
online Game Offtrees dot com. That's Game of Trees dot
com of course, Kevin hammaster arborist with Hams Arborcare the
website for Hams Arborcare hams Arborcare dot com. That's h
A m ms Arborcare dot com. We started a little
bit of discussion last week about degree days and I'm

(02:45):
looking at the forecast, Kevin, and wow, things are things
are happening fast, aren't they?

Speaker 2 (02:51):
Yeah, you know, and and I just got uh, you know, uh,
somebody reached out to me on Instagram. Oh, I'm kind
of worried about continuing printing oaks. It was an arborate
and there's really no reason to worry. You just check
the thermal app was uw Wisconsin puts out. And so

(03:12):
if you were to to you know, google Oak Wilt
thermal model, this would come up from the University of
Wisconsin and you just type in your area, you know,
and it pulls you up on a Google map and
it tells you how many degree days you're you're sitting

(03:35):
at right at the moment yesterday in my area where
I was at forty seven and change and two thirty
one is the cutoff for low risk to medium risks.
And so we're, you know, still with the warm weather,
we're still a long way away from two thirty one. Now,

(04:00):
of course, you know with overnight temperatures staying higher, you
know that those hours can add up pretty quick. But uh,
we're still within the window of last minute oak crooning
or if you've got a tree to come down that's
next to oak trees, you know, now's the time to

(04:21):
do it.

Speaker 1 (04:22):
I I checked out that that calculator and I just
put my my address in there, clicked on the map
actually where I live, and it says the risk of
above ground transmission of oak wilt is low, which is
a good sign. But again, as you as we as
we talk about Kevin, is we are that that window
is is getting closed rapidly. So you definitely want to

(04:42):
get on uh the schedule for for that for if
you've got those oaks, what about other other little critters
and uh and uh if there's something about insects really
love the taste of trees. I don't understand it as
somebody who loves food. I've never never had the urge
to chew on a tree. But there's a lot a
little beetled critters out there that just love trees, aren't there.

Speaker 2 (05:05):
Yeah, the bronze verge four is something that we actively pursue.
That's the cousin of the emerald dash boar and the
two line schestnut, for they all kind of pick different trees,
and honestly, the the emerald ash boar will probably find
some other tree that it will you know, settle for

(05:27):
when the ash trees are in short supplies. So that'll
be interesting to see how that unfolds. For example, the
two line chestnut, for which was favored chestnut trees, which
virtually no longer exists except in small pockets, now favors
the the oak trees and and so it but it

(05:49):
doesn't affect the oak trees like it does a chestnut tree.
It h you know, stress trees or you know, trees
that are in decline. It will kind of move in
there and be a secondary host that might end up
killing the tree, but it wasn't the main pause. So
keeping your oak trees healthy, you know our biochar treatments

(06:12):
that we apply to trees, there's something that will help
invigorate your treaty and and maybe reduce the pleurosis potential
in white oak if you have yellow leaves on your
white oats. And so there's there's kind of non chemical
means of helping your trees to keep those beetles away.

(06:34):
So we will be applying some soil is injected insecticides
here towards the end of March early April for those
bores in specific like broads, verch boor and birches. You
want chestnut, boor and oak and Japanese beetles. It also
covers in birches.

Speaker 1 (06:56):
Those Japanese beetles have been We've got raspberry bushes that
my that my son tends to and the Japanese beetles
have it's it's they will they chew up those leaves
like and and obviously they leave the the It looks
very neat, but not very good for the not very
good for the trees. And they they're picky too about

(07:17):
not necessarily picky, but there are certain, uh, certain things
that they that they like more than others, aren't there.

Speaker 2 (07:24):
Yeah, there's only six hundred different plants that they will eat.
But they lindens and virgins, uh to a great degree.
And so you'll see the tops of linden trees getting
laced out. It's kind of interesting. They only they're picky
in that sense, they only eat the part of the
leaf in between the veins. They don't like the veins,

(07:51):
and so your leaf ends up looking all lacey. It's
uh yeah, kind of decorative, so to speak.

Speaker 1 (07:58):
And I'm guessing like when you have the grand kiddo over, Kevin,
kind of like the way they just peel the toppings
off the pizza and just kind of leave the crust, right, yeah,
kind of like that. Talking this morning with Kevin Ham
of hams Arborcare the website Hamsarborcare dot com. That's h
A M. M Sarborcare dot com. Tell pH number eight
sixty six five nine six five three nine six. That's

(08:19):
eight six six five nine six five three nine six.
While we are on the critter front, and of course
now is the time to be calling Kevin to make
sure that your trees stay happy, healthy and and keep
these pests away. The spongy moth, sponge moth. It is
a oh what a pest that is. And you know,

(08:40):
all the trees, not that I'm picking favorites here, but
you think of things like like oak trees we were
talking about earlier, beautiful birches, willows, they just oh, they
just love chewing on on those, causing problems, don't they.

Speaker 2 (08:54):
Yeah, merches willows oaks, they just love white oak even
more than red oak, and uh, if you've had them bad.
I think we're kind of coming over the hump of
the the psychicyclical life cycle. We should be getting a
decline in them, but you probably want to, you know,

(09:17):
get us out there and do some reduction sphrase to
really maximize this downturn in the population. So it'll be
interesting to see how how they they come out this
year with the We did have a good fungal kill
last year late in July or late early July late June,

(09:41):
where the rains that we got created a fungus that
interrupts their digestive system, So that those are the types
of natural things you want to occur to get this
crash and then hopefully for seven years they kind of
go away. But I think we're going to have a
at least one more year. And it varies from location

(10:03):
to location. So if you had a lot of maws
flying around last year after they had pukated, you'll want
to You've probably got a lot of egg masks and
so you'll want to do a reduction spray this year,
which the BTK sprays are the least impactful environmentally. We

(10:23):
can really target just the caterpillars.

Speaker 1 (10:27):
As we talk and you talk about some of the
different the different techniques and tools, one of the things
too is I know, Kevin is is this stuff is invaluable?
Is making sure that you're using the right tool for
the job. Sometimes people will try, you know, like oh,
I read online to do this or do that, and surprise, surprise,
didn't work because not only maybe you're applying the wrong product,

(10:49):
applying it improperly, not able to reach the areas that
need to be reached, all those different things. And that's
one of the great things about working with Kevin and
his team. Not only they have the knowledge and know how,
they've got the right tools, they've got the right applicators,
they've got everything for your trees. It's a great day
to give Kevin and the team at hams Arborcare call
eight six six five nine six five three nine six.

(11:10):
That's eight six six five nine six five three nine six.
If you've got those oaks, last minute on those you
really want to make sure you're getting Kevin to the
team out to take a look at him again. The
teph number eighty six six five nine six five three
nine six. Kevin, it's always great chatting with you. It's
a beautiful day ahead. I know you're probably excited to
get up in the trees or are you doing or
are you doing doing legwork?

Speaker 2 (11:30):
I am actually contract climbing. You all a Canadian friend
of mine, So Canadian Canada and the US are coming
Together's day in arbor culture.

Speaker 1 (11:42):
That's what we like to hear. Kevin, I have a
great day. It sounds like sounds like fun. Hopefully they'll
make you a big stack of flapjacks to start the
day off, and you guys will be ready to rocks.

Speaker 2 (11:53):
Yeah, awesome.

Speaker 1 (11:54):
