Speaker 1 (00:02):
Eight twenty one thirteen ten WU I b A and
asked the experts presented by Kevin Ham and hams Arborcare.
Of course Kevin Ham. He is a master arborist with
hams Arborcare. The website Hamsarborcare dot com. That's h A M. M.
Sarborcare dot com. Also a Game of Trees dot com.
That's game off trees dot com. You can buy the biochart,

(00:24):
soap and so much more at gameoftrees dot com. Del
Phona overer for Hamsarborcare. Eight six six five nine six
five three nine six. That's eight sixty six five nine
six five three nine six. Kevin, welcome back, just in
time for snow. How is the How is the rest
of the trip?

Speaker 2 (00:42):
Yeah? It was. It was great. We got we got back.
It was uh. We had to rearrange the end of
our white. Resa's mother had some health issues right before
we left town and actually delayed our departure and then
we that turned out okay and and we got to leave,

(01:02):
but it kind of rearrange the trips. So we went
through Philly a day before you know, the big, big,
big game. And it looks like Philly is is pretty
happy right now.

Speaker 3 (01:16):
They are. They are.

Speaker 1 (01:17):
They were blessed by a visit as you passed through,
and it gave them all the luck that they need
to vent. You know, Kevin, as as I look the forecast,
we do have we do have snow coming through later today.
We've had we've had some colder days. The grounds getting
really really firm, and that allows you guys to do
at Ham's arborcare do some work with without damaging and

(01:43):
really helping protect sensitive areas on the ground, doesn't.

Speaker 2 (01:46):
It absolutely you know this. We are in a drought,
make no mistake, this is a drought. We need moisture
before spring. But it really has been a nice twinter
for work. It's the firm ground, no snow a few times.
I've climbed the snow on the trees a couple of

(02:08):
times this year, but it was short lived and it
looks like we're going to get a little bit this week,
so that'll be nice. But yes, we have firm ground
and good for removals and sensitive areas, ice for the
edge of the lake and stuff. If you've got pruning
or removals to do.

Speaker 1 (02:26):
How does that work with what you mentioned the edge
of the lake removals and working on the ice. I
know that you know open waters there there's rules for
you know how that all works. And I'm going to
guess even when it comes to tree trimming and other things,
there's special considerations for working on water.

Speaker 3 (02:45):
Yeah, in.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
Within thirty five feet of most shorelines, there would be
a DNR you know, ordinance that you need to permit,
and usually they make you planted one or two trees
somewhere else. But if you you know, of course, it
can be more expensive than that. If if you don't

(03:08):
get the permit, that is on the onus of the
homeowner there to uh to make sure. So check your
check your local areas and call the d and R.
Definitely along the Wisconsin River and and most lakes there
are issues with that. But with things next to the lake,

(03:30):
the ice is very handy. I drove a bobcat across
the lake a couple of weeks ago for sump grinding
on an island.

Speaker 1 (03:38):
Oh really, for example, what you're getting passed by a
bunch of you TVs come flying by and there, Yeah, there.

Speaker 2 (03:45):
Are five hundred vehicles on the lake. Yeah. I went
from apprehension to I'm probably gonna be.

Speaker 1 (03:51):
Yeah, Oh that is really cool to see.

Speaker 3 (03:54):
And it doesn't grant you.

Speaker 1 (03:56):
I know we've talked in the past, you've during summer
months with with trees and other things along the shore line.
I know you've had barges with with booms and other
equipment attached you can access in the summer months. But
what a great what a great opportunity during the winter
months to really get that get those jobs done, an
expedite that that work. And speaking of kind of unique opportunities,

(04:20):
the weather we've had, it's a good time if you've
got oaks to be thinking thinking about oaks, right or
am i am I off on that?

Speaker 2 (04:26):
Oh? Absolutely? Yeah. Oak pruning we without this snow, we've
been really we've got most of our oaks pruned. No,
because we're like, okay, let's get we had we had
some warmer weather with no snow and we jumped in
there and got the pruning done. Pruning is kind of
miserable on a you know, zero degree day. Yeah, you'd
rather have a nice heavy removal where everybody's moving. But

(04:50):
we've gotten a lot of our oak purning duns. We
have some space to to get some oak pruning in
before April first is usually the deadline in northern areas
where there's not ordinances you know, dictating the time. We
may you know, depending on how the weather goes. We
kind of watched the degree days and we can get

(05:12):
screwed up to April fifteenth in some areas. But yeah,
that time is approaching quickly.

Speaker 1 (05:18):
You had mentioned too, Kevin, about you know when, and
I just wanted to talk about specifically. But like with
certain tree removals of D and R and permitting, they'll they'll,
you know, along the shore lines, things will will require
maybe a planting of a new tree. In general, this
is a good time to be thinking about choosing and
selecting that right tree and planting. I know obviously it's

(05:41):
we're not going to be putting them in the ground
this week, but starting that conversation and working with you
guys at Ham's Harborcare, it's a really nice time to
be doing that, isn't it.

Speaker 3 (05:51):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (05:51):
We just had the Legacy Tree rep visit our property
and we talked through the nursery and talk through different
tree options for you know, the summer, and we'll be
taking a delivery you know, sometime in the spring here,
so you know, if you have a specific tree. You

(06:12):
know there's general ones that are popular, and we know
we kind of stock, but you know, now's the time
to get that idea on paper and you know we
can get that that specific tree in for you.

Speaker 3 (06:25):
And it's great day to give.

Speaker 1 (06:26):
Kevin and the teammate call at Hamsarborcare eight six six
five nine six five three nine six. That's eight six
six five nine six five three nine six. I do
want to ask you about about your boilers, and I
know you've got some You've got some really cool features
to talk about, but real quick along those planting lines
that you know, when we talk about legacy trees and
a lot of times we think about you know, people's

(06:47):
residential yards and and you know a tree or two
here or there. Do you guys do do you ever
get called in for like larger I think I know
the answers larger projects where you're maybe putting in like
thirty forty one hundred trees at a time. Do you guys,
are you guys get calls on that type of thing
as well?

Speaker 2 (07:02):
Kevin, We we have had you know, up to you know,
ten twelve, there are municipal jobs legacy trees themselves have
gotten some big municipal jobs all around the Midwest. A
lot of times on some of the big construction projects,
they lump it in with all the landscaping, and so

(07:25):
it's kind of tough to slide in there. And you know,
you've got the bidding wars that go on in a
lot of those situations. But you know, for our long
term product, you know, some of those situations should look
at separating the trees out and say hey, we want
the right trees, and you know, somebody else can plant perennials.

Speaker 1 (07:50):
Because you see developments too and you're like, why did
they That makes perfect sense. You go like, I think
a lot of folks that may have bought in a
newer home and maybe they have a tree, and they're like,
why did they put those?

Speaker 2 (08:01):
You know, fi yeah, maybe it's dying and maybe it
wasn't planted well, and you.

Speaker 3 (08:06):
Mabe, it's a lot of newer areas.

Speaker 2 (08:08):
We can we can come in and get a legacy
tree in there and get going. So if you have
those new development issues, yes, give.

Speaker 3 (08:15):
It as a call for sure, great day to do that.

Speaker 1 (08:17):
Eight sixty six five nine six five three nine six
that's eight six six five nine six five three nine six.
Let's talk about heat. Let's talk boilers. Kevin and I.
You guys have a really cool uh either with a
boiler command or what is explain how this uh this
ups the game when it comes to wood burning boilers.

Speaker 2 (08:35):
Yeah, I just drove back from UH Minnesota in the
wee hours last night with two boilers on the trailer,
and I went there to film this this guy who
invented something called the boiler commander, and it's a it's
an electronic device that goes on any boiler with a
combustion fan and it modulates the combustion fan off of

(09:00):
the temperature of the flu So in a nutshell, it
increases the efficiency of your burn and you burned less wood.
So one complaint people have outdoor boilers as they burn
so much wood. Well our portage, I mean boilers burn
a lot less wood by themselves, and we're going to
put one on ours that put a boiler commander on

(09:24):
it and it will burn even the least. So it's
just something that now every outdoor boiler owner is a
client of ours. Not to be shameless about any promotions
or anything, but yeah, this would enhance any boiler with
a combustion fan and so that's a big thing and

(09:47):
I'll be doing some videos on that.

Speaker 3 (09:49):
You'll definitely want to check out.

Speaker 1 (09:50):
Of course, Kevin and the team at hams Arborcare Game
of Trees on YouTube, also Instagram, you can find Kevin there,
great videos and of course as he shows you some
the cool products and other things they have at hams Arborcare.
Also it's really cool watching those job videos and not
only are very informative, he learns, you'll learn a lot,
but also very entertaining. Kevin and the team at hamsarm.

Speaker 2 (10:11):
We went over fifty thousand subs real.

Speaker 1 (10:14):
That's that's not surprising. I for anybody that's taken the
time to watch like this is good.

Speaker 2 (10:19):
Remember Sean, we started with you. We were going for fifty.
We were trying to get fifty.

Speaker 3 (10:25):
Remember that.

Speaker 2 (10:26):
Now it's fifty k.

Speaker 3 (10:27):
