com or pick a phone, give a call. Eight sixty

sixty six five nine six five three nine six Kevin.
How was your New Year? My friend? Are you able

(00:50):
to hear Kevin? Oh? Yeah, I got press the Samian second.

Speaker 2 (00:54):
Can hear me?

Speaker 1 (00:56):
I sure can? How you doing?

Speaker 2 (00:57):
Okay? Yeah, I'm doing great. Great New Year's, great holiday,
had great time with our new grandchildren and we're off
to great. I love this. No snow.

Speaker 1 (01:09):
Yeah, yeah. We're just talking with Andrew and he I
think he concurred. And I've got a guess. I know
you guys have been busy. I've been following you of
course on Instagram and on your on your YouTube channel
as well. You've been keeping very busy and the snow
has really been helping things out. In one of the
videos you shared, I did not know this, but you
had you guys were working on a tree and there

(01:31):
was a family of raccoons that decided that that tree
was was a nice place to call home. Do you
encounter that often?

Speaker 2 (01:39):
It happens, you know, occasionally, and you know it can end,
it can end badly. Yeah, and we had a happy
ending in this case that that video kind of went
viral on Instagram and Facebook. It's over, you know, almost
two million. Wow, And uh not everybody was happy with

(02:00):
disturbing little critters in the winter time. But we you know,
we we got them out of there. They you know,
they have multiple places to go, and there was a
lot of habitat on this particular property. So I am
sure they are warm and snugly.

Speaker 1 (02:16):
Once again, yes, I guarantee they are as well. And
you certainly don't want them to just keep a dying
or dead tree there than the danger it could come.

Speaker 2 (02:25):
Yeah, right by the house. You know, it's like, you know,
some people just don't understand. You've got a hazardous tree
and they're going to fall out of that tree anyway, Yes,
are going to pray and they're taking a ride. But
they handled the fall pretty well there.

Speaker 1 (02:42):
And and for folks that don't know raccoons are as,
I think you pointed this out Kevin as well, they're
pretty crap. I mean they there there. There is no
shortage of raccoon habitat. They can live in both rural urban,
I don't matter where the area is. They know how
to make a home.

Speaker 2 (02:57):
Speak yeah, before nightfall.

Speaker 1 (02:58):
I'm sure they were well bedded down. And you, oh yeah.
We speaking of YouTube videos and Instagram videos. We talked
a couple of We've talked a few times about it,
but I remember a couple of years ago we had
discussed sometimes I know, you get called into court not
as a not as a defendant or a plane iff.
You you called into court though as an expert witness

(03:20):
of course, with your with your master arborist UH and
certification and of course your experience. You're brought in on
cases from time to time. And there was a case
not too long ago involving some some uh were the
Norway spruce trees that had been trimmed back and there
was a concern that the power company was that that

(03:42):
would have killed the trees or yeah, yeah, it.

Speaker 2 (03:46):
Was the county that was just doing you know, road clearance. Yes,
and there there was line clearance that had been done
on these trees and the lower brand you know, line
clearance usually won't touch the lower branches. Uh. And and
so there were large lower branches on these these Norway
spruce trees, which are typically they make some pretty big

(04:09):
lower branches, and they came out over the road. And
so the county was in the practice of of doing
road clearance, and so they just whacked off these fairly
substantial branches and and they're the homeowner, of course, was concerned.
They were all within the right of way, so technically,
you know, the county had had the right to do it,

(04:32):
but they were arguing that this was going to greatly
damage the tree. And what was interesting is some of
my compatriots were on the other side. So there was
another master arborists and then there was a PhD guy
that's well known in the area that that was you know,
helped write the certification tests. And so those were on

(04:53):
the other side, uh, stating various factors that we were legitimate,
but Norway's is are very resilient, and there were there
were directional wind uh things is that you could bring
into play. And so at any rate, I was on
the county side, and you're not really representing a side

(05:16):
like an attorney, and you bring you in and you
can only say what you believe.

Speaker 1 (05:22):
Is the truth.

Speaker 2 (05:24):
Sometimes it helps and sometimes it doesn't. And uh, you know,
I stated a what happened to be a contrarian opinion,
and it it favored the county and and and the
county on that little thing. So that particular resident probably

(05:45):
wasn't very happy to wait till you can bring that
they're ten years later and they're they're standing there just fine.
That Yeah, it was. It was a while ago, and
I was just randomly driving by and I got to
stop and do it video.

Speaker 1 (06:01):
When you mentioned, Kevin that that the homeowner wasn't particularly
happy at the time, And obviously now that the trees
are fine, that they probably probably not as not as
bitter about that about that understanding. But trees are and
this is something that that I think is important to
talk about. People take trees for good reason. They're they're
very connected and very important to them. And it's some

(06:24):
of that is I think sometimes folks need to understand
that is like, I know, we've talked about cases of
like trees growing over neighboring properties, and these things can
lead to pretty significant disputes, can't they.

Speaker 2 (06:36):
Yeah. In fact, our little angry neighbor saga is kind
of going viral. Yeah, and we've made a now YouTube
allows three minutes short, and so we were able to
kind of get the capture, capture the whole story of
that angry neighbor dispute in a three minute short and

(06:58):
and that's gotten you know, a quarter million views in
the last couple of days. So but it yeah, that
those and those disputes kind of resonate with people, yes,
you know. And and this this is the case where
where half the tree, it was a two stemmed you
know tree, and half of it got fractured in a

(07:21):
storm but didn't fall. Right, So if a storm makes
a tree fall, it becomes the owner of where it fell.
But if it becomes hazardous and doesn't fall and it
originates on another property, well now you got kind of
a catch twenty two. It's like whose responsibility is it?

(07:41):
And so it was a known hazard, and we took
away the hazard, and the person that owned the tree
was trying to say, well, you have to take away
my other tree or it's the hazard to me. And
I didn't believe it would be an immediate hazard. Yeah,
and so we we left it. And so then you've
got it's not an immediate hazard. But when will it

(08:03):
become a hazard? And would that be my responsibility because
I did the last work on the tree, or would
that be his responsibility? And so there's all these little arguments.
The comment section is wild on that, but.

Speaker 1 (08:19):
It's fun and if folks haven't had a chance to subscribe,
definitely check out Game of Trees the YouTube channel. A
lot of you mentioned you put up some great videos,
very interesting videos, a lot of great discussion goes on,
whether it's rehoming of raccoons or whether it's who's responsible
for what when it comes to trees. It's a fascinating

(08:40):
Facebook and YouTube channel. Check that out again. If you're
on a Facebook, subscribe to the channel. Also, of course,
you can learn more online. Hamsarborcare dot com. That's Hams
h a m ms arborcare dot com. Speaking of dot
COM's game off trees dot com portage and main outdoor
boilers available there, and Kevin you shared a video this
morning of it looks nice and toasty of a boiler

(09:04):
in action. Let's talk about these these portage and main boilers.

Speaker 2 (09:09):
Yeah, actually, uh we we did some uh uh video
in yesterday. I'll have some some footage coming up. But uh,
they're an excellent outdoor boiler made up in Canada. Uh
and I hear the trade is going to improve with Canada.
There a lot of drama going on there, but at

(09:32):
any rate, very very good outdoor boilers. And we just
thought being trigue guys, you know, we drop a lot
of wood for various people to have outdoor boilers. And
and this is an excellent uh furnace that that has
a great efficient burn for an outdoor boiler. But they're

(09:53):
also very forgiving. You don't have to fully dry your wood.
Oh with these outdoor boilers. You know there's some that
are more gasification units that you really have to be
particular about how dry you get your would These outdoor
boilers have force combustionnaire that comes in and you can
put you know, pretty unseasoned wood into these and still

(10:15):
get an effective burn and you can use fairly large pieces,
so that reduces the amount of work that you have
to do to feed these things. And so we were
at a house. He was heating a seven thousand foot
square foot house and he was feeding it once a day.

(10:37):
Pretty effective.

Speaker 1 (10:39):
People wonder, how do you afford a seven thousand square
foot home? Will you save money on eating?

Speaker 2 (10:44):
Yeah, I don't know. If the mask.

Speaker 1 (10:48):
We'll leave that up to the accountants. For now, we're
going with it. Well, it's so much great stuff going on,
it's a great time to get on the calendar, start
that conversation. If you're looking to plant to come springtime,
you're looking to have your tree inspected this time here.
If you're looking to keep warm, maybe you've got a
really nice, really nice chat or an area outdoors and

(11:10):
you're looking to heat it well well portage and main
outdoor boilers from gameoftrees dot com. Way to go there,
of course, the website for Hamsarborcare Hamsarburcare dot com. More importantly,
pick up phone game a call this morning eight six
six five nine six five three nine six. That's eight
six six five nine six five three nine six for
Hams Barborcare. Kevin It's always great chatting. Have a fantastic Dan.

(11:31):
We'll do it all again real soon.

Speaker 2 (11:33):
