well on Instagram without any further ado, We've got Kevin
Ham with us this morning. Kevin, how you doing this week?
Speaker 2 (01:18):
Doing great? Sean. I got a little bit of summer
heat going on.
Speaker 1 (01:22):
Yeah about time. Well, we'll definitely take these warmer days
and we're gonna talk about you know, you get that,
you get the heat, you get some unsettled air leads
to some storms and of course, you know, it's something
that we definitely want to want to be aware of.
But first, something we were talking about before we came
on the air this morning, Kevin, we have I don't
(01:43):
think we've touched on We've touched on some of the
bigger projects, but one of the areas, a couple of
areas I don't know that we've really dug into. And
some of the things that you guys do at Ham's
Arborcare are those bigger jobs, whether it's like a condo
or like like a complex or municipalities as well. Let's
talk a little bit about tree planting and tree planting
services for some of those some of those bigger, those
(02:05):
bigger jobs or those those bigger organizations.
Speaker 2 (02:10):
Yeah, well, you know, Sean. The Legacy Trees was conceived
by Ron Zilmer, who was the city forester for none
other than the city of Milwaukee, big city. And you know,
so he had seen firsthand the rins and repeat of
(02:31):
planting trees, pulling them out, early, planting again, and just
this thing that happened to municipalities and some of that
was due to the planting practices and nursery practices, and
so he got inspired to begin this new nursery concept
where the foundation of the tree, the root structure, is
(02:57):
set up for success. And you know, you picked the
name like legacy trees because that kind of pointing toward
that long term planting and we want, you know, to
be uh setting up trees for success well into the future.
And the legacy trees is the great option now, you know,
(03:18):
is it necessarily the cheapest tree you can find. No,
not necessarily. And some municipalities oftentimes they're scrapping too to
find the best price and and they find a way
to put them in. And we're offering a special pricing
for you know, ten trees or more for municipalities that
(03:39):
we can get that into a price point where you know,
if that tree is going to last long time and
they get us to kind of show up once a
year to make sure they're they're heading in the right direction.
Then perhaps that's a good value for that municipality or
or that property manager that that might manage a larger
home owners association. And and they've got space for a
(04:03):
number of trees to go in, So don't discount LEGACYE
trees because it's going it was conceived to solve the
municipal problem of planting and removal. Planting removal, planting removal.
Speaker 1 (04:19):
What I find fascinating too about that, Kevin is as
somebody who has listened in and sat in occasionally during
meetings of I know a lot of communities have like
tree boards and other other municipal organizations where they talk
about you know, projected plantings and areas where they want
to have trees planted. The other area that I often
hear in those in those meetings are failed plantings. People
(04:42):
upset about a tree that was put in that was
you know, it wasn't perfectly upright, it was partially leaning.
And then what's what's the problem gonna gonna lead to
is you know, you can try and pull it straight,
but really it's never going to be perfect. And then
you hear also stories of guys planted this tree two
years ago and it's just been a dead stick at
the end of my drip way. What a great solution
you talk about. You know, the most expensive thing you're
(05:06):
ever going to do is the thing you've got to
do two or three times. The most affordable thing is
is something that you're able to do once and and
really nurture it. And that's really the with legacy trees.
That's really what we're talking about, isn't it.
Speaker 2 (05:18):
Kevin. I might have to put that in an add.
Speaker 1 (05:24):
Good thing. We've got it on tape. You're yeah, good.
Speaker 2 (05:27):
Thing well said, very well.
Speaker 1 (05:31):
Said with that too, and Kevin is a is we
talk about plantings and and of course the legacy trees
and what you guys are doing at Ham's Arborcare. One
of the things that comes up this time of year
is and I know you know again going back to
you and I do talk quite a bit during the
weekend before the show. One of the things that came
up was we've had storms, but we haven't had like
(05:51):
that big widespread storm storm damage is not good. Obviously,
there are some situations where tree dams image is unavoidable.
You get a you get a large you know, big
enough wind at tornado, gosh forbid straight lines, sometimes they
can they can do damage no matter what you can do. Uh,
you guys are there to clean that up. But there
are also some things you can do proactively to give
(06:13):
your give your trees and and give those those beautiful
trees the best the best fighting chance against damage or
or gosh forbid lost. There are things you guys can
do at Hams Arborcare to really give those trees their
their best chance for survival.
Speaker 2 (06:26):
Aren't there absolutely? You know, we just last week we
talked about a big burrow that had you know, the
split stem and and then a crack developed and that's
when they noticed it. But probably it was noticeable that
something should be done with that tree, that it was
kind of predisposed to some kind of failure. And and
(06:51):
so just getting you know, me in the yard. You know,
it's like your trees deserve a professional look. Yeah, and
you know, have you had a professional look at trees lately?
And maybe I'll see something possibly And I often ask
that question if I'm meeting with somebody and they brought
(07:12):
me there for something that they've seen, and you know,
I ask a question, you know, can can I point
out other things that I might see, you know, and
just as a service, might as well get a number
on it and see what's necessary. And because I'm going
to see things that your typical person may not.
Speaker 1 (07:30):
One of the things that I love is just I'll
be out and about and I'll see something and I'll
I'll send you a picture to say, Kevin, what's going
on here? Which is again, these are always very very
extreme things that I'm noticing, but those those smaller things
that you know, we talk about being a master arborist.
We talk about continuing education, We talk about the real
(07:51):
skills of what an arborist and what the folks at
Ham's Arborcare can do is really being able to help
you identify it. And if you haven't had your trees
and expected recently, you definitely want to start that today.
You got to just pick a phone, get on the schedule,
make an appointment eight six six five nine six five
three nine six. That's eight six six five nine six
(08:11):
five three nine six. You can learn more online at
Hamsarborcare dot com. That's h A m Msarborcare dot com.
Storry this week talking about legacy trees and some of
the applications for them. They are beautiful. They look great
in any yard. The other great thing is, Kevin, you
have got an opportunity for folks to win a legacy tree.
(08:31):
We'll talk a little bit about the details on that,
but that's coming up July twelfth at ten am at
the Edgewater Home and Garden right in Portage, and you're
actually going to be You're going to be there with
of course, with your with with information for folks. Let's
talk about about folks. The opportunity everyone that participates has
a chance to win.
Speaker 2 (08:50):
Is that?
Speaker 1 (08:51):
Is that? How I understand that?
Speaker 2 (08:53):
Yeah? You know, you just turn in your information and
and you'll be in a drawing for for that tree.
And I'm good to use that tree. It happens to
be one of our legacy trees that has some pruning
that could be done on it right now. They're fairly
aggressive growing trees, so we've got some good examples of
some reduction cuts to make and a lot of good
(09:14):
things to say about how to care for a young tree.
And then we've got a couple of trees right there
where we're going to be set up at the garden
center that have been planted for a while that could
use some correction pruning and we can demonstrate different things
that we can do for those trees to get them
on the right track and maybe maybe they got a
few things out of line that they can be brought
(09:36):
back into the line, not all at once, but a
little by little. And we're really focusing on that renewable
training pruning to get trees really off to a great start.
Speaker 1 (09:48):
And that's going to be a Saturday, July twelfth, ten
am at Edgewater Home and Garden for us to get
more details. If you're following Kevin and the team AM's
arbacare on social media again, that is at ten a
on the twelfth, do a lot of great information there,
a chance to learn from Kevin, also a chance to
win a fantastic tree. Again that is the tree Pruning Workshop. Yeah,
(10:09):
I've been to the website recently. Head on over their
Hamsarborcare dot com. Even better, today's day to make an
appointment and make that get on that schedule for hams Arborcare.
Have your trees checked if they haven't been. Also keep
that number handy. Of course, you never know when one
of those storms or other type of things are going
to roll in. Great day to have them come out.
Eight sixty six five nine six five three nine six.
That's eight six six, five nine six five three nine six, Kevin,
(10:31):
thank you so much for taking the time this morning.
You enjoyed this fantastic day.
Speaker 2 (10:35):
