Speaker 1 (00:01):
And we welcome you back here to hot talk from
the five h six Pub downtown Grand Porks inside Hugo's
Pure Market. Time to change gears and head outdoors again
to the soccer pitch in North Dakota. Soccer over the
weekend went to Idaho, got a draw against the Mountain West,
well now the PAC twelve or whatever they are Boise
State to lead off the road trip and have drawn
(00:22):
the road you'll take it every time. And then they
went and won against Idaho State to close out the
road trip to set themselves up for their season ahead
here in some of league play. Henrik so and everybody
head coach of you indie women's soccer, and we are
excited to have him on the program. And you're back
in town. You didn't have any major road difficulties this
(00:44):
time back and feeling good that the team went out
and did a professional job, I would say on a
road trip to kind of queue you into the someth
league season.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
Yeah, No, it was a fantastic road trip. You know,
playing at Boise State with the altitude and know they're
actually the defending Mount West champ. So going out there
and playing the way we did, I thought we were
right there with him, and then the grit the team showed,
really really happy with the draw and then you know,
keep going to Idaho and getting a w in the
Pocatello against Idaho State. Fantastic. So that's that's a good
(01:17):
road trip for us. Really happy with it.
Speaker 1 (01:19):
You know, Grace Miller was named everybody, Hey, Grace Miller,
our goalkeeper was named seventh League Women's Soccer Defensive Peak
Performer of the Week Today. Makes your job a lot
easier when you got a goalkeeper like Grace Miller, doesn't it?
Speaker 2 (01:32):
Oh? For sure? For sure, Grace was outstanding this weekend.
Yeah we should. We could make a highlight tape about
what she did this weekend. No, she was literally standing
on her head and I mean that quite literally. So
really really happy with her. She deserves that, and you know,
without her, we we would not have gotten the results
we did. Like that's just a matter of factor. He's
so really happy for Grace. She's fantastic, really really happy
(01:52):
to have her here.
Speaker 1 (01:53):
And I think we've talked about this before, but because
you have a Grace Miller back there, everybody, you know,
you don't want them to over relax, but you want
them to just play true to themselves and within their unit,
and that allows a team to have some comfort that
you know you have somebody in frame that is just
so solid for you, and that that helps everybody out.
Speaker 2 (02:15):
Oh yeah, absolutely, you know, knowing that you got Grace
back there, and it gives gives everyone a sense of
comfort that we know, Okay, she will make the saves.
She's there for us, and then that's that's why she's there,
and she did an excellent job, and so it's it's
it's good to know that we have a player like that,
from that caliber, of that caliber, and that that definitely helps.
Speaker 1 (02:32):
You know, you bumped up your competition. You dropped a
tough one at Nickels when you're down in Louisiana. The
UC Santa Barbara game could have went in a couple
of different ways. They were a very high level team,
as was Iowa State. I bet you were kind of wondering,
as the staff, how your team would kind of respond
in this uptech up uptick of better teams, quality opponents,
(02:55):
And are you pleased with the way they kind of
responded coming out of that little stretch where things got
tougher and remain tough with this road trip.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
Yeah, absolutely, you know, losing a couple of games, that's
part of the process. Yeah, and they responded, well, you know,
we could have just let it go go south with everything,
but we didn't. We we fought back, and I think
that's that's the bottom line of everything this weekend. We
fought back, We clawed our way to two results, and
that's what matters. I'm really really proud of the reaction
and how we responded to a little bit of adversity.
(03:24):
So that was good to see for the team and
the program as a whole. So really really happy with that.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
I did see that Sarah mccranckin picked up a yellow
against the Old Bengals. Who's the most I guess susceptible
to picking up a yellow every now and then on
that current roster of.
Speaker 2 (03:41):
Yours, you know, I would say it's Amy Lefler, really
is she?
Speaker 1 (03:46):
You know, she plays like with her hair on fire,
which is and that being picking up a yellow is
not necessarily I'm not denigrating. I'm actually complimenting because you're
playing really hard.
Speaker 2 (03:57):
I mean, they're smart yellows. I don't know if you
saw the yellow Cora element picked up against boise. I
don't know if you catch the game. Yeah, So it
was like it was nil noil, right, and like three
minutes left on the clock. The keep her catch the
ball right, yeah, and they keep her has a long
punt and Cora goes in front of the keeper and
sticks out of foot so she can't play it. That's
a yellow car. But she stopped the counter attack, gave
(04:18):
us enough time to come back. That is a professional
yellow that's a that's smart, that's games.
Speaker 1 (04:23):
And as a coaching staff, you're like, there's a player
that's in tuned what.
Speaker 2 (04:27):
The game soccer. I get you, and I was, you know,
I'll be smart, but I'm fine with that. That is
a professional situation and I'm happy to take that yellow
car because that's gamesmanship. That's part of the game.
Speaker 1 (04:37):
Do you see that, everyone, And whether it's a foul
in basketball or a foul in soccer, sometimes you take one.
It's the right thing to do, and it's the right
thing to do, and that's a professional type play. This
is a week here. Now you're back. You do not
play and start your some league season until next week
here at Bronson Field. So how do you handle this
(04:57):
with your team? What what has kind of been the
approach here for the leaders and the coaching staff of
how you want to go about in the build and
utilizing this week.
Speaker 2 (05:05):
So first of all, we need to recover. You know,
if you look at our away schedule, I don't know
how many miles we've got on on us so far,
but it's a lot. Yeah, it was tough, and so
getting a couple of days off, we'll work wonders, you know,
get a little reset, then refocus on what we need
to do once conference rolls around and then we're starting
you know, we're starting over again. So we're refocusing on
(05:27):
what we need to do in order to get results
against Denver and Omaha. But right now today today was off.
It's gonna be very light tomorrow, and then we start
building towards next week. Like we need fresh legs and
this week is perfect for that, you know. So I'm
very happy with how the schedule pan out, and we
got this off week. Yeah, it actually serves us really well.
Speaker 1 (05:44):
Next week it is Thursday against Denver at Bronzon Field
at three. Denver is a notorious strong team in the
Summit League. Omaha Sunday at one here at Bronson Field,
tell us about those two opponents kind of what you
know about them here a week out.
Speaker 2 (06:00):
Yeah, so Denver just beat Colorado State, who all ranked
twenty fifth in the nation, so they're they're very good.
You know, the RPI just got released. I think they
were in the top seventy, so speak speaks volume for
what they do out there. But you know, they got
to come to North Dakota, and you know, I want
to make sure that no one likes to come to
North Dakota. That's important. So we're gonna take care of
(06:21):
business and give him a run for the money. And
the beautiful thing about soccer is anything can happen. Anything
can happen. So I'm very positive about what we got
going and how we're gonna match it.
Speaker 1 (06:32):
Do you think our fans need to maybe bring a
European soccer approach and build a wall and start singing
and chanting throughout having drums.
Speaker 2 (06:42):
Wouldn't be opposed to it. You know, if that we
could make that happen, that would be great. I would
love that. Absolutely.
Speaker 1 (06:47):
We need to bring but we need to get some
soccer fans that are college and maybe get some songs
together and sing for our team and sing.
Speaker 2 (06:55):
I think you're a demand to come up with the song.
Speaker 1 (06:57):
Okay, all right, all right, maybe that's a task to
badly do that. I will come up with a couple
and see if I can get somebody to start chanting
and singing with me. But you know, here we are
something league campaign. You wanted to build this team, and
you know what with the weekend that we just had
and came off of for North to go to soccer
and what we saw, I think it's positioned well. But
(07:18):
we also want to get you that rest that you
are seeking as well. Coach Son, thanks for swinging by tonight,
great weekend and good luck next week.
Speaker 2 (07:25):
Thank you very much.
Speaker 1 (07:26):
All right, Henrick, soon everybody head coach you Indie women's soccer,
they get the open week, but now they're gearing up.
I should tell you that Nate Pierrel of U and
D men's golf, he finished fifth overall at the Creighton
Blue Jay Classic here for men's golf. So Nate Pierrel,
West Fargo native led you and D and men's golf,
(07:47):
So give it up to him. Sophie Cook of Holly, Minnesota,
a freshman at U and D, she led you Indian
women's golf out in Bozeman, Montana, over the last couple
of days. She finished twenty fifth as a freshman from Holly, Minnesota,
so give it up for her as well. It's homecoming week.
There's a lot going on. Make sure you take advantage
and get to what you can get to to celebrate
U and D here in Greater Grand Forks all week long,
(08:10):
and of course U and D football will have the
celebration basically commence at the Alis Center coming up against

all across the Fighting Hawks Radio Network with Jack Michaels,
