Speaker 1 (00:14):
Welcome to Healley McGinn's.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
My name is Pastor Gail Krack, and I'm glad you've
chose to join me for this program. I prayed about
what I'm supposed to talk about this morning, and I
really feel the topic is Keys to Overcoming powerful emotions. Now,
you might say, what are the powerful emotions that you're
talking about? Emotions like hate, anger, fear, anxiety, depressed depression, lust,

(00:45):
suicidal thoughts, and a list could go on and on.
We know, normally speaking, that a hard time to deal
with emotions is late at night. Why because you're trying
to sleep, because everything's quiet. Then all the things that
you've been dealing with start flooding and coming right into

(01:06):
your mind and your heart that keep you awake at
night and make it.

Speaker 1 (01:09):
Very hard for you to sleep.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
So I want to talk about some keys that I
think will be helpful to overcoming powerful emotions. And one
of the things I'll tell you right away about this
is that it's a process. Philippians Chapter one, verse six
says he who has begun a good work in you

(01:31):
will bring it under completion to the day of Christ.
So you know that change and we know that transformation
is a process, and it takes time.

Speaker 1 (01:41):
Says in.

Speaker 2 (01:43):
Philippians four thirteen, I can do all things through Christ,
who strengthens me. So we know that it's a battle
to learn how to control emotions that seem to be
out of control. And why why is it so important
that we get these powerful emotions under control. Well, those

(02:05):
powerful emotions can cause eventually chemical reactions in your body
and changes. And if you don't deal with powerful emotions
effectively down the road, they can cause sickness and illnesses.
I like John twenty twenty two, who sends you I remitted?

(02:26):
Who sends you retained? The ire retained. I don't say
I remit you, I say I forgive you. But the
word remit in the original language means to take what
you're carrying on the inside and giving it away to God.
So it's giving it away and then if it tries
to come back, you give it back to God.

Speaker 1 (02:46):
You don't hang on to it.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
And powerful emotions will lead you to places you don't
want to go, you know. In Genesis four seven, God
tells Cain, if you do it right, will you not
be accepted. But if you do not do what is right,
sin is crouching at your door into desires to have you.

Speaker 1 (03:08):
You must rule over it.

Speaker 2 (03:09):
So we know that Cain was jealous of Abel because
God accepted able sacrifice in not Cain's. And Cain was
suffering from anger and hate, and because he didn't get
control of it, he actually went out and killed Abel.
So nothing is wrong with powerful motions, but it's what

(03:32):
we do with emotions that either make them.

Speaker 1 (03:35):
Right or wrong.

Speaker 2 (03:37):
I have twelve keys to overcoming powerful emotions. Number one,
we must focus on Jesus and give him our cares daily.
One Peter five seven through nine says, cast all your
care upon him, because he cares for you. For your adversary.

(03:58):
To the devil prowsund look like a roar and lyon
seeking someone whom he may devour, Resist him, stand firm
in the faith. And then, I know sometimes it's hard
to listen to a teaching when you have all these
emotions and feelings going on in your mind. So let's

(04:22):
take three minutes and let's listen to some music. I've
chose a piece by Steve Swanson for you to listen to.
And as you listen to the music, let all the cares,
all the worries, all the concerns that you have, give
them all to God.

Speaker 1 (04:39):
Okay, Steve Swanson, help you enjoy.

Speaker 3 (04:43):
This not sooner bad that no one can say this
unge and neighble you.

Speaker 2 (05:02):
Lord.

Speaker 4 (05:05):
I'm not too bad. There's nowhere to go.

Speaker 3 (05:13):
Now and no one can feel this hunger in need
of your Lord.

Speaker 4 (05:22):
I will run the side. I will be the say.
I will go into places declaring that you are the case.

Speaker 5 (05:39):
I will run the side.

Speaker 4 (05:43):
I will say your praise, I will worship it, places
your name of it to me for lace.

Speaker 5 (05:54):
I can say now, I can't say, baby, I'm a
super massive.

Speaker 2 (06:05):
With soup.

Speaker 4 (06:07):
That's not things impossible?

Speaker 3 (06:12):
You are.

Speaker 5 (06:14):
You beginning? I'm a suasive ser massive, not things impossible.

Speaker 4 (06:29):
You out the gap and I'm not sort about.

Speaker 1 (06:44):
Wow.

Speaker 2 (06:44):
Wasn't that good? Now back to what we're talking about.
You know, music is powerful. It has a powerful way
of keeping us on track where we need to be.
And so casting your care on the Lord is not
a one time event, but it's a daily process. It's

(07:05):
something we have to do every day. Number two, take
every thought. Captive two Corinthians, Chapter ten, verses four and
five says the weapons we fight with are not the
weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine
power to the pulling down us strongholding fortresses. We pulled
down every high and lofty thing that sets itself up

(07:28):
against the knowledge of God. And we take every thought
and make it obedient to Christ. Now, I'm going to
tell you right now, that is one thing that is
very hard to do, is giving the Lord your thoughts
and then leaving your thoughts with the Lord and not
taking them back.

Speaker 1 (07:45):
It is a process.

Speaker 2 (07:47):
Number Three, what your mind focuses on is important. It
says in Philippians for eight we are to focus on
the things that are pure and of good report. And
so Philippians four eight. Number four have a plan.

Speaker 1 (08:07):
What do you mean.

Speaker 2 (08:10):
Usually when the powerful emotions hit us, it knocks us
off balanced. But we should have a plan. We should
have scripture ready that we're going to focus on when
we start dealing with powerful emotions. Scriptures like Psalm ninety one,
Psalm twenty seven, Psalm one, all of those are excellent

(08:31):
scriptures for you to focus on. Number five, take authority
over the enemy. Matthew eighteen eighteen through twenty says whatever
you bind on earth is bound in Heaven, and whatever
you loose on earth is loose in heaven, and so
powerful emotions are human, right, There are human emotions, but
when they get bad enough, I'm convinced that there are

(08:54):
demonic tormenting spirits that can be behind the powerful emotions.
Ask Jesus to bind those spirits and take them away
from you. But then you need to also at the
same time, change what you're thinking on so taking authority
over the enemy.

Speaker 1 (09:12):
And the other thing I would.

Speaker 2 (09:13):
Say right here is not listening to the enemy's lives,
which is a very easy thing to do when you're
going through a very hard time, all right, and especially
if you're dealing with tormenting thoughts.

Speaker 1 (09:27):
Number six, call a friend to pray with you.

Speaker 2 (09:31):
It's good if you don't isolate when you're having all
those emotions and feelings. The enemy will try to make
you feel ashamed that you're even dealing with them. The
enemy may say something like, well, if you are more
spiritually aware and awake, you wouldn't be going through such things.
Not true. It's always good to have a.

Speaker 1 (09:51):
Friend to pray with you and to pray for you.
Number seven. You might be needing counseling.

Speaker 2 (10:00):
You know, there's all kinds of counselors that you can find,
but look for a good Christian counselor someone that you
can talk to who can help you at your point
of need.

Speaker 1 (10:13):
All right. Number eight, sign up for.

Speaker 2 (10:16):
Your own personal healing ministry with Spiritual Care.

Speaker 1 (10:21):
The reason for it is this. The powerful emotions we
deal with on a day to.

Speaker 2 (10:26):
Day basis, they come from somewhere, and they usually come
from hurting events that we've had in the past that
we are not totally healed from yet that God wants
to heal you from. So sign up. Don't be afraid.
A lot of people get afraid and they don't sign up.
They don't want to sign up because they're afraid of

(10:47):
what somebody else is going to think.

Speaker 1 (10:49):
Sign up and.

Speaker 2 (10:50):
Go in for your own personal ministry. Number nine, never
give up. Keep fighting the good fight of faith.

Speaker 1 (10:59):
Did you know? Faith is a fight? The enemy will
do everything.

Speaker 2 (11:03):
In his power to stop you from becoming all God
wants you to be. And powerful emotions are very hard
and difficult to handle, especially if you're having a very
bad day. So those emotions can lead you to drink,
can lead you to do drugs, can lead you to
do many other things. To try to get a break,

(11:26):
but don't do it. Call a friend, get someone to
pray for you, let them know what you're going through.
Number ten, find a good church or home group to attend.
I think it's so important that we find a good
church in a home group to attend, someplace where we
can go be ourselves, be around other believers, someplace where

(11:51):
we can receive prayer at our hour of need. And
I just want to say that going through powerful emotions
is normal. If are not abnormal, it's normal. We just
need to know how to deal with those emotions.

Speaker 1 (12:07):
Number eleven.

Speaker 2 (12:08):
Saturate your mind with good things like God's word, music,
good podcast messages, and this can go on and on.
Saturate in your mind with good things.

Speaker 1 (12:23):
Number twelve.

Speaker 2 (12:26):
Close down every negative open door that's causing the problems
that you're dealing.

Speaker 1 (12:32):
With right now.

Speaker 2 (12:33):
If you give the enemy an inch, he'll take a mile.
Close all open doors. And if you don't know what
your open doors are, just say Jesus, I pray that
you would reveal to me what my open doors are.
And then if you have an area that is causing

(12:53):
a lot of spiritual attack on your life, ask God
to forgive you, ask God to close the door and
ask God to give you the strength to overcome the
thing that you have been battling with, because the Bible
says the Ephesians, don't let the sun go down on
your wrath, don't give the devil a foothold, and so

(13:15):
open doors, getting rid of open doors. Once God reveals
the open door to you, ask God to forgive you,
close the door, ask him to seal the door with
your blood, and ask him to fill you with the
Holy Spirit and to forgive you and to set you free.
So I don't know where you're at out there this morning,

(13:37):
or what you're going through. I don't know where you're
at when you're listening to me. Maybe you're driving your car,
maybe you're walking alongside the road, maybe you're working out,
maybe you're in your house. I don't know where you are,
but I know God loves you. He wants to help you,
and he wants you to be victorious on a day
to day basis. And so whoever said that wucking with

(14:00):
Jesus would be easy? Whoever said that?

Speaker 1 (14:03):
You know?

Speaker 2 (14:03):
I work with pastor Christian in Costa Rica, and he
tells his guys coming out of the gangs that being
a Christian is not for cry babies. Why, they need
to know it's not always going to be easy. They
need to know it's gonna be a fight. They need
to know there are gonna be things that they need
to overcome. And so, having said that, realize that walking

(14:26):
with Jesus is gonna be a fight. Realize it's not
going to be easy. To close the door and keep
it shut. But realize this too. When you shut that door,
you're gonna have more peace. You're gonna have more peace,
You're gonna have more fulfillment in your life when you
shut those doors. And when you learn what to do
with a powerful emotion and how to handle it, man,

(14:49):
you're gonna do a lot better. So I always tell
people when I feel anxiety that it's my friend, and
people roll their eyes. Why is anxiety your f And Well,
it tells me when I'm operating in my own strength.
When I feel anxiety, I stop, I back up, I

(15:09):
ask God to forgive me for operating in my own strength,
and I ask God to show me the way ahead. So, actually,
powerful emotions can be like your check engine light on
your car.

Speaker 1 (15:22):
Have you ever had that?

Speaker 2 (15:23):
Running down the road and the check engine light comes
on and you say, well, I think I'm just gonna
ignore that. Then down the road you have a breakdown. Right,
So if your check engine light is on, take time
to stop, take time to figure out why, evaluate what
you're going through, and then go get the help you
need so you can overcome these powerful emotions. A lot

(15:47):
of crime, a lot of druggle, use, a lot of
things happen because of overwhelming powerful emotions.

Speaker 1 (15:55):
And it's really sad.

Speaker 2 (15:57):
When you hear of a young person that is dealt
with powerful emotions and they didn't think there was any hope,
so they ended their life. How sad is that God
doesn't want that. God doesn't want that to happen. And
I pray right now for you in the name of Jesus,
if you're listening to me and you've got these powerful

(16:17):
emotions going on, I pray that God would give you
the strength to bring those emotions under the control of
the Holy Spirit, to help you go ahead, to make
you successful.

Speaker 1 (16:30):
Right.

Speaker 2 (16:31):
And so if you have suicidal thoughts, you may need
to check yourself into emergency room and ask someone to
help you. You're worth it, you're valuable, or you may
need to go for counseling. Maybe you had suicidal thoughts,
but you're not suicidal. You might need to go for counseling.
You might need to get healing ministry to figure out

(16:52):
where are these thoughts coming from. God wants you to
know He loves you, and God wants to help you.
Powerful emotions are a normal part of the everyday life
a believer, and you may not experiencing them all the time,
but usually emotions like that. Powerful emotions happen when things

(17:17):
happen to you that are out of your control and
set you in what I call a tailspin, and you
don't know what to do. So you want to make
sure that you take these emotions, you take these feelings
and bring them to the foot of the cross. Follow
the steps that I just gave you, follow the twelve keys,

(17:38):
get the help you need, and learn to bring all
your feelings and emotions under the lordship of Jesus Christ.
And so it's not weak to get a counselor that's
not a matter of weakness. It's not weak to seek
help or a healing ministry to help you conquer the

(17:59):
things that you've been dealing with. Sometimes we need another
person to come alongside us and help us when we're
dealing with these emotions. It is so important that you do.
And so I don't know what you're going through. Maybe
you're a young person, maybe you're an elderly person who's
listening to me out of your home, or maybe you're

(18:20):
just driving your car down the road and MY voice
is coming through your radio speaking to you in the
car right where you're at. God wants you to know
he sees your pain, he loves you. He died for
your pain. He died so that you could have eternal life,
so that you could have peace of mind. And so,
if you don't know Jesus, but you want to know him,

(18:41):
tonight say Jesus, I want to know you. Forgive me
of my sins. Come into my heart, be my savior
in the name of Jesus. Fill me with the Holy
Spirit and Jesus' name.

Speaker 1 (18:53):
Amen.

Speaker 2 (18:54):
Now I know that you may need counseling, you may
need to talk to someone. It's good to find a
good church. It's good to find a home group. It's
good to have a couple of really good friends in
your life that you meet with on a day to
day basis and pray with that's very good. So I
want to start to close out our time together with prayer.

(19:15):
Let us pray Heaven, the Father. I pray for all
those that are dealing with the difficult emotions. I pray
for those that feel like they can't take another step
in life. Lord, that you would help them take one
worse step. I pray that you would carry them in
the midst of their situation. I pray that you would
take them by the right hand, and I pray that

(19:37):
you would walk with them. Lord, be with each and
every person under the sound of my voice, that they
would know that you love them, that you care about them,
and that.

Speaker 1 (19:47):
They're not alone. Jesus, you said in your word that
you would never leave us nor forsake us. Oh, I
thank you for that.

Speaker 2 (19:56):
Lord said in your word that you are a friend
that sticks closer than a brother. So, Lord, when we're
going through things, help us to know that there is
victory that we can have. Help us to know that
there are other people that have gone through the same
emotions that they're dealing with, and they made it to So. Father,

(20:17):
in the name of Jesus, I bind the spirit of torment.
In the name of Jesus that people have been dealing with,
Lord Jesus, racing thoughts in the mind, not being able
to sleep at night, and not being able to slow
down the thought process going on in their mind in
the day to day basis. Lord, one of your names

(20:39):
in Isaiah ninety six is that you're the wonderful counselor
and you are the Prince of peace. Lord, where people
are at right now, I pray that you would invade
the place where they're at, and I pray that you
would make yourself known to them, and I pray they
would experience a peace that pass us all understanding, that

(21:03):
will hide their heart and mind in Christ. Lord, you're
amazing and you're awesome, and I thank you for everyone
under the sound of my voice right now, whether they're
listening to this on wood radio or listening to this
later as a podcast. Lord, let them know that you
love them and that you care about them. In the
